Deathloop Update 1.405 Shoots Out This January 17

Arkane Studios has fired out Deathloop update 1.405, and this is another unannounced patch for the game. Given we’re not expecting any new content drops for the game, don’t expect anything outside of minor fixes. Check out what’s new in the Deathloop January 17 patch notes.

Deathloop Update 1.405 Patch Notes | Deathloop January 17 Patch Notes:

So far, Arkane has not acknowledged today’s update just yet, though we’re hoping that changes within the day.

Same as always, if you spot any gameplay-related changes, leave a comment below to let us know. If the community spots anything, or if we find anything worthwhile from the patch, we’ll update the article accordingly.

Rumbleverse Update 1.09 Brings New Mid-Season Changs This January 17

Iron Galaxy has deployed Rumbleverse update 1.09 on all platforms, and this is for the mid-season patch. This brings gameplay-related changes and more. Check out the complete Rumbleverse January 17 patch notes below.

Rumbleverse Update 1.09 Patch Notes | Rumbleverse January 17 Patch Notes:

With this update we’ve added new content including special moves, weapons, the Locked Crate, and more. We’ve also made additional balance changes and fixed a bunch of bugs. Check out all the details below:

New Stuff

NEW Special Moves

  • Added Roar Family of Special Moves
    • Comes in CommonRare, and Epic varieties
    • Yell really loud to buff your teammates and buff yourself.
    • If enemies are in the way, they’ll be pushed back.
    • Become a support character! Break up crowds! Yell! Truly inspirational stuff here.
  • Added after 2.3: Power Mist
    • This is the Epic variety of the Mist Family.
    • This is a Power Move that stuns for a combo.

NEW Weapons

  • Added Broom family of weapons
    • Comes in CommonRare, and Epic varieties
    • Every young Rumbler dreams of doing rad martial arts moves with a huge push-broom instead of sweeping the garage. Now you can too!
    • It hits many times and pairs well with Sadistic Perk.
    • Hold Vicious to sweep up the competition! It works as a Ground Attack too!
    • The Vicious attack does not break this weapon.

NEW Feature

  • Added Locked Crate
    • These are very heavy and hard to move.
    • You can only open it if you have an undamaged Keybat.
    • The Keybat’s magic might help you find a Locked Crate!
    • Inside you’ll find two of the following:
      • Gold Sauce Chicken
        • Heals for 500hp per use, for 4 uses.
      • Gold Stamina Drink
        • Gives you 180 seconds of Energized.
      • Gold Sprinkles Cookie
        • Fully refills your Superstar Meter.

NEW Perks

  • Rude – (Added after 2.3) Emote near an enemy to gain a damage boost.
  • Guts – When you are low on Health, you’ll deal additional damage.

Misc Improvements

  • You can now see your stats after a Restricted match.

Balance Changes

  • The Wall Splat unification changes in 2.0 have made it much easier to understand the combo limits presented in the game. However, we feel that this change has made long combos much too common and easy to extend.  As a result, the following changes have been made.
    • Lowered Wall Splat limit to 2 (was 3). Now, a 2nd wall splat will end any combo.
    • Changed damage scaling multiplier after a wall splat to .9 (was .75) so that your follow-up will be more rewarding.
    • Removed combo limit from Punchline Family, as it was only added to avoid a 3rd Wall Splat with it, which is no longer possible.
  • The Sumoslap Family has received some nerfs to lower its overall utility, but some buffs in the face of these nerfs to ensure it still has a valuable place in the game.
    • Air Sumoslap will now use the Ground Bailouts instead of the Air Bailouts when attempting to Bailout from the air.
    • The landing recovery time of the Air Sumoslap now allows a Bailout, even on miss, following the usual Bailout rules.
    • Sumoslap can no longer cause a wall splat and will instead knock the victim down in front of you.
    • Damage from the final hit of Sumoslap has increased to 80/80/100 (was 40/40/60).
  • We lowered Spinkick Stamina Damage on Hit to 18 (was 30). With the ability to use this to start or extend a combo, it resulted in Stamina Breaks that came too often and too easily.
  • While we like the Dive Family’s ability to Ground Attack, which can turn a knockdown into a bigger damage opportunity, we have observed that there are too many common situations after high damage Vicious Attacks that allow a guaranteed Dive follow-up without needing to Bailout. This has led to lower Stamina use than expected for long combo loops. To combat this, the following changes have been made.
    • Adjusted the recovery time for the attacker and victim after Crusher Family, Izunadrop Family, Chokeslam Family, and Tackle Family, to remove the possibility of a guaranteed Dive Family or Elbow follow-up without using a Bailout.
    • Dive Family changed combo scaling value from .75 to .6.  The rewards for these combos were still a bit too high, which could make the Dive Family hard to pass up in most builds.
  • Football and Potted Plants now do Stamina damage on hit and block. It was weird that they didn’t.
  • Added Combo Limit to Low Blow. This is to avoid a team mode infinite combo.
  • Added a Combo Limit to Liberate to prevent an item stealing infinite.
  • We modified the controls for Getup Actions so that pressing Dash will no longer trigger a Dodge, and we ensured that you can still dodge with the dodge input where expected by adding an input slop window no matter which trigger you hit first.
  • Fixed an issue where Woo perk would allow you to cancel Charged Chop directly into special moves. We also found an issue where it would allow the Woo version of Charged Chop into a jump, but we liked this functionality, so we’ve extended it to the normal version of Charged Chop.
  • The Starfish weapons had a variety of issues we wanted to address, so the following changes have been made.
    • Starfish damage changed from 100/100/100 to 80/100/100.
    • Fixed an issue where Tier 2 was using Tier 1’s hitdata.
    • Fixed an issue where the Tier 3 Vicious Attack could poison teammates.
    • Fixed an issue where Starfish would do double damage consistently if the Vicious Attack hit on the way down.
  • Changed Air Dodge Cancel costs for the Rocket family, Dive family, and Edge Family.
    • Rocket gets a Bailout on Hit even if it misses for the reduced cost Air Dodge cancel.
    • Air versions of Dive gets normal Air Bailout rules and costs immediately after it can hit, but a little bit after that it gains the ability to use Bailout on Hit at the reduced cost anytime while falling.
    • Edge Family was using the Bailout on Miss cost, and that has been corrected.
  • The team wanted to make the Rocket Family more appealing, so we made the following changes:
    • Made the Rocket Family send you even higher into the air than before.
    • Changed the knockback on Rocket family to launch enemies into the air for a followup attack. This works great with Vicious Attacks that deal lots of extra damage from high elevations.
    • Rocket Family now lets you un-pocket a weapon sooner after it is done launching you, to give players more flexibility in what kinds of actions they want to perform after using it.
  • Weapon Block VFX has changed to indicate that it is an improved version of Blocking. While Blocking with a weapon, you will not take Stamina Damage from incoming attacks, and you will not be Stamina Broken.
  • The Construction Barrel and Oil Drum item cards previous stated ‘Vicious Stuns’, which is not true. Also, these did unusually high Stamina Damage only when thrown.  To make this more deliberate, we removed the ‘Vicious Stuns’ text and replaced it with the ‘High Stamina Damage’ text, and made the following changes:
    • Stamina Damage on Smash (2nd hit of basic combo) increased to 60 on hit (was 8), and 30 on block (was 5).
    • Stamina Damage on Vicious Bash increased to 30 (was 20)
  • We made some adjustments to how retargeting during a chain combo series works, so that you can still turn to target another nearby player if you aim in that direction, but you will not lose your current target if no new target is available. This should prevent you from accidentally losing your target in nearly all cases.
  • The team has found that after Meditative’s nerfs, players are getting very little value out of it. We tried doubling the healing speed of Meditative to see if that would help in our internal playtests and found a sharp rise in the desirability of the perk. Let us know how this feels and we will continue to monitor the state of this perk and make additional changes if needed.
  • The team has made a few major changes to the way the final ring works to improve the pacing of the endgame. We can tune a few of these parameters via Hotfix, so let us know after a few weeks of play how things are feeling and we may be able to make some improvements.
    • Superstar Meter gain from taking damage will decrease the longer the match goes on, eventually reaching zero. You will still be able to gain meter normally from attacking, emoting, or other means.  This should drastically reduce the number of occurrences of a high health player getting wailed on and constantly being able to use Comeback.
    • The final ring will now always be shrinking, even if people are fighting, but at a very slow rate. If players do not hit each other for 7 seconds, the shrink rate will accelerate the same way it did before.
    • The smallest possible size for a final ring is now 1200 units (was 500 units).
    • After reaching its smallest possible size, the final ring will now move in a straight line in a random direction at a steady pace until it either a winner is crowned, or everyone gets pushed into the ocean.  Good luck.

Bug Fixes

Gameplay

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the AOE impacts from Elbow Drops and other falling attacks to deal damage even when Blocked.
  • Added a possible fix for the Popcorn Party’s healing buff getting stuck on a player forever. Let us know if you are still seeing this.
  • Improved an issue that could cause items to slide down slopes on the server, but not on the client, leading to players being unable to pick them up for a time.  You may still see this but should see it less.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the invulnerability to end prematurely when getting up from a Ground Attack Elbow Drop or similar attack, which could leave you vulnerable but unable to Block or Dodge. This prevents an inescapable looping reset combo.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Unblockable VFX to play on the Air Vicious Crate Attack, which is a projectile and is not, in fact, Unblockable.
  • Fixed an issue causing Ballistic, Rekt ShotCosmo Shot, and Windfist to only be capable of using the Bailout on Miss, even on hit.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Bombastic from using a Bailout up until the final frame of the move. All other Bailout-eligible moves could already do this.
  • Improved an issue that could cause Tackle family to look like it teleported when using it while you are about to land. We have additional fixes for this issue coming in a future update, but you should see it vastly less now.
  • Fixed an issue causing Weapon Vicious Attacks to be blockable if only the AOE portion hits. This affected most weapons in the game, including Keybat, Bats, Golf Clubs, Barrels, Chairs, Lawn Chairs, Residential Mailboxes, Street Signs, Trash Cans, and Chancalas.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the Air Vicious Golf Club attack from hitting opponents in most situations, leading instead to a fall damage splat for the user.
  • Fixed an issue preventing you from super cancelling a missed Rush family.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause your Camera to attach to another player briefly when getting interrupted out of a Swing family attack.
  • Fixed an issue that caused multiple magazine opening sounds to play when opening a magazine
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to progress challenges on the Barge
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to gain perk meter when attacking a teammate using Vicious Attack with a Poison Starfish
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Keybat from not breaking when blocked mid-air when using Vicious Attack
  • Fixed Rush family of moves not damaging Common and Epic buckets
  • Fixed Popcorn Party VFX not appearing all the time

Technical

  • Fixed multiple crashes across all platforms
  • Fixed an issue that caused a network failure when interacting with various objects

Leagues and Fan Mail

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to either not receive Fan Mail or receive duplicate rewards in Fan Mail
  • Fixed an issue that caused users to not receive all Title Card rewards
  • Fixed various Fan Mail text issues

Matchmaking

  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from matchmaking into Playground mode with a party of four

Shop

  • Fixed an issue that rarely prevented players from unable to purchase when they had enough Brawlla Bills

UI

  • Fixed a player’s name overlapping tutorial monitors on Playground mode causing the prompt to disappear
  • Fixed various localization issues
  • Fixed the Quit button not functioning during the “Connecting” screen

Environment

  • Fixed various collision and climbing issues across Grapital City and Low Key Key
  • Fixed various missing ledge up volumes across Grapital City and Low Key Key

New Metal Gear Rising Announcement Teased by Raiden Voice Actor Ahead of 10th Anniversary

The story of everyone’s favorite nihilist cyborg may not yet be over. Quinton Flynn, the voice of Metal Gear’s Raiden, has teased new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance announcements in the coming weeks, ahead of the game’s 10th anniversary.

With PlatinumGames in charge of development, the Raiden-led Metal Gear spinoff was released in February 2013. The game takes place after Metal Gear Solid 4 and follows Raiden in his struggle to protect America against bloodthirsty PMCs led by the anarchist Senator Armstrong. The game departs from the main series’ stealth-focused gameplay and instead relies on augmented hack-and-slash combat, with Raiden’s inner turmoil against his “Jack the Ripper” persona becoming an important plot device.

Despite positive reception from fans and critics and the developers’ desire to continue the spinoff story, no sequel ever materialized owing to series creator Hideo Kojima’s troubled departure from Konami. That may now be changing, as Raiden’s voice actor Quinton Flynn has teased new Metal Gear Rising announcements ahead of the game’s 10th anniversary:

Take note that this may be in connection with the recent rumors of a Metal Gear Solid remake announcement, or may be hinting at an alternate direction for the continuation of the Metal Gear Rising spinoff. In any case, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the Metal Gear IP still has a future, with or without Kojima.

Thanks, Okami!

Report: Hogwarts Legacy Art Book Leaked with Image of Map; Game Will Take 70 Hours to Complete 100%

A Hogwarts Legacy art book leak has surfaced online, with images showing various pages from the unreleased book. We’ve also gotten quite a bit of information on the game, including how long it’ll take to complete the game with and without trying to complete 100% of it.

The art book leak was posted online via Twitter by user @ManwithSecrets_ in an image thread. You can also check out the images in the gallery below.

https://imgur.com/a/WnFUkr6

Art books are fairly common among large video game releases. For example, the upcoming Diablo 4 ARPG includes an art book in its Collector’s Box. According to the official Hogwarts Legacy website, however, an art book is not part of Hogwarts Legacy’s Collector’s Edition. Instead, it will be released separately as “The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy: Exploring the Unwritten Wizarding World,” which you can pick up on February 10, the same day as the game’s release.

A couple of highlights from the art book include an apparent image of the game’s map as well as a screenshot of the game’s menu. As art books can contain anything from concept art to screenshots, it’s unclear whether these images were from an early iteration of the game or from the game’s actual release version.

Alongside the leak, we also got a bunch of new information from the same leaker. Here’s a summary of the information as posted via Reddit:

  • Different houses will have different progressions on individual main quests, but eventually wrap up into the same result. Students from a certain house will therefore visit Azkaban briefly.

  • The Avada Kedavra curse can only be learn from a side mission, after completing the main storyline at a vert late stage.

  • Game Duration? 35 hrs.

  • 70 hrs with side quest and 100% of the game.

Map of that one place I forget the name of

  • There are nearly 100 Merlin’s puzzles in the game. The puzzles are solved in a variety of ways, covering almost all the magic that the player has learned

  • Looking back at the first game preview in September 2020, 90% of the stuff in it has been cut or redone. Behind the scenes secret story

  • The game folder was created in 2017. Initially it was intended to include Quidditch and support all 4 Quidditch positions. Then it was abandoned after a year. Proper trade-offs are still necessary.

  • The large map was cut by nearly a quarter, the map blocks of the Highlands and Swamp areas are still available again, but are no longer playable areas. The game sales should be made into DLC if it is good.

  • There are nearly 100 Merlin puzzles in the game. The puzzles are solved in a variety of ways and cover almost all of the magic the player has learned.

  • Principal Black doesn’t really have much of a role, but he has a fan-pleasing part in the main storyline.

  • There are a lot of side missions in the game, including three side missions through the main line. There is no fourth one. Ravenclaw got thrown aside.

  • PS platform exclusive mission is really quite interesting, if you have the conditions it is recommended to get the PS5 version. The PS platform exclusive for a year is also served.

  • Avada Kedavra Spell can only be learned from a side mission after completing the main storyline at a very late stage.

  • Players can fly near/over Hogwarts Castle, but cannot ride a broomstick or mount into Hogsmeade.

  • Players can even catch the Phoenix inside the game. Phlegm

  • The side quests in the game are rich, or the gameplay tutorial is functional, or it has independent dungeon exploration and boss battles. It is recommended to complete as many side quests as possible before advancing the main story

Hogwarts Legacy is set to release on February 10 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It’ll come out a little later on April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One consoles, with a final version for the Nintendo Switch on July 25.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Update 1.34 Out This January 17

Developer Fatshark has released Warhammer: Vermintide 2 update 1.34 today for all platforms. Check out the Warhammer: Vermintide 2 January 17 patch notes.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Update 1.34 Patch Notes | Warhammer: Vermintide 2 January 17 Patch Notes:

Fatshark has not posted any official patch notes just yet, although there are many known issues that have been listed recently. You can see the full list of current known issues posted down below.

General

  • Cosmetics are randomly disappearing, and subsequently re-appearing for some players. Please rest assured your cosmetics have not been deleted. The underlying issue will be addressed in our next patch
  • The ‘Amulet of Ashur’ is not always unlocking after meeting the required criteria (completion of Dark Omens + 1st Ranked Weave)
  • Daily Reward is sometimes not claimable, with continuous loading. We’ve identified this happens when the calendar changes from Day 8 back to Day 1. We believe that only the Day 1 reward should be affected. Please skip Day 1 (wait 24 hours) for now whilst we iron this out.
  • The Helmgart Heraldry hero skins included in the Collector’s Edition are sometimes not being granted correctly. If you have purchased the Collector’s Edition and are missing these cosmetics please submit a support ticket to us so we can help

PC

  • Some players have noticed an increase in connectivity-related errors. We’re exploring whether this could be related to a recent Steam client update
  • Poor performance. Players are seeing improvements after disabling the Steam Overlay and/or disabling mods

We will try and update this post as soon as we can when the official patch notes are released. Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is out now for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

King of Fighters Update 1.62 Out for Gameplay Refinements This January 17

SNK has released King of Fighters 15 update 1.62 (PS5 version 1.006.002) today for all platforms. This new update comes with gameplay refinements and other changes. Here are the KOF15 January 17 patch notes below.

King of Fighters 15 Update 1.62 Patch Notes | King of Fighters 15 Update 1.006.002 Patch Notes | KOF15 January 17 Patch Notes:

Here is a small announcement for today’s update. You can view the full patch notes via the gallery and PDF links below.

Patch Ver.1.62 Refinement Intentions

Overall, we have made gameplay adjustments by increasing the performance of less frequently used characters, slightly reducing the performance of more powerful characters and moves, and also making changes to some systems to make KOF XV slightly easier to play. In addition, the performance of some characters have been refined by increasing their combo scaling values because their Blow Back attacks had a higher return on hit than other techniques and its frequency of use was skewed.

KOF 15 Next Update 1.62 Patch Notes:

The full PDF containing all patch notes and character refinements can be found here. That’s it for the patch notes. King of Fighters 15 is out now for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Report: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Menu Image Leaks, Confirms Battle Pass & Store

Announced two years ago, Rocksteady’s long-gestating project is currently planned to be released this 2023. While we haven’t gotten new info about it in quite some time, it seems the first leak from the game has come to light, as an image of what seems to be the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League menu screen has surfaced online.

Posted over on 4chan, the image shows Captain Boomerang alongside Harley Quinn, King Shark and Deadshot. There’s a chapter select option, a “Message of the Day” notification and a bunch of other tabs. Interestingly enough, one tab has “Battle Pass” named for it.

https://imgur.com/a/8MPxcRy

Obviously, we can’t verify if this is the real deal or not. While the game won’t feature competitive multiplayer, it will feature four-player co-op, though it does make the inclusion of a Battle Pass seem like an odd choice if you look at it from that perspective.

Another thing worth noting is what appears to be the confirmation of an in-game store. Given how most games these days have one (though usually for multiplayer games), it’s not really surprising. Chances are, we’ll see character skins and other cosmetics for sale.

Treat this one with a grain of salt for now, folks! Once we hear more details about it, we’ll let our readers know.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to be released this May 26, and will feature the late (and great) Kevin Conroy as Batman for the last time.

The Last of Us HBO Series Episode One Review – Same Great Story, but Different

Thirty or so minutes into the debut episode of The Last of Us, we’re presented an almost interstitial short film of sorts that uses visual storytelling to establish the world we will be spending time in, uses an efficient visual cue to set up a device that will be used again in the closing moments of the episode and puts a grim button on it. All in about five minutes or less. This is the world of The Last of Us.

By this point everyone who loves video games at least knows of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. A critical and commercial success, the game’s story is a premiere example of how good story telling in video games can be. Naughty Dog’s style of cinematic storytelling plays almost like a long movie or a season of television. So why adapt it into a prestige television show for HBOMax? The first episode makes a pretty good case for why and how it could really work; by being the same great story fans of the game know, but also different enough that fans of the game won’t be able to receipt the story beat by beat. And if this first episode is any indication, it’s going to be a great way to experience the journey all over again.

Episode one begins with a prologue of sorts, back in 1968, on a talk show, two scientists talk about pandemics and the like and one guest, played by John Hannah talks about how a fungal virus would be game over for the human race should it mutate enough to survive human hosts. It’s a great way to lay the groundwork and say to newcomers “These aren’t zombies.” At least not in the traditional sense. For all intents and purposes, yes, The Last of Us is another zombie show.

The story then jumps to 2003 and covers much of the first hour or so of the 2013 (and 2014 and 2022) game. We’re introduced to Joel, his daughter Sarah, his brother Tommy before the cordyceps viral outbreak and pandemic decimates the world. We get to know Sarah much more than we did in the game and it’s for the bittersweet better. She’s a good kid, friendly neighbor, caring daughter. When the ultimate tragedy strikes it hits like a ton of bricks and I felt more sorrow watching the show whereas the game was more of a gut punch. And either way, it sets the tone for the show and sets Joel on his arc, forever changed by it.

Director Craig Mazin restages the chaos of the first day of the outbreak in ways that are both strikingly similar to the source material but different enough to be surprising. The show’s massive budget lends itself well to show a ton of bedlam and destruction in those moments. I will say though, in a video game it’s fun to control Joel during these moments, but watching it, as a fan of zombie cinema, I’ve seen it before. Most notably (and to me, better) in Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake. We’ve also seen it in World War Z, Train to Busan, etc. As such the familiarity with the trope does take some of the tension out of it.

What is new, however, is the show’s spin on the infected and how they spread the virus with tendrils that come out of the infected’s mouth when they bite a victim. No longer is it the tried and true saliva mixing with blood that does the victim in. It’s a neat spin but not sure it’s one that’s wholly needed unless the show is going to explore it much to justify the change. If I’m willing to accept fungus zombies, I can accept that the spores don’t survive in open air.

After the opening tragedy, like the game, the story jumps ahead 20 years and we meet up again with Joel in the Boston Quarantine zone where he’s doing his best to survive doing manual labor like burning dead infected bodies as well as smuggling contraband into and out of the quarantine zone. A crime, as we seen, is punishable by death. From this point on the episode pretty much follows the story of the game with a few added wrinkles like meeting Ellie before she meets Joel and seeing what happened between Joel’s lady friend, Tess, and Robert that leads Tess and Joel to hunt down Robert, which, of course, leads them to Marlene and her hiring Joel and Tess to smuggle Ellie cross-country.

More than anything, the biggest hurdle any adaptation of The Last of Us has to overcome is the casting. It’s pitch-perfect in the game with Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson as Joel and Ellie, respectively and they are massive shoes to fill. Thankfully Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are up to the task. They don’t replace Troy and Ashley, but rather supplement them. They are Joel and Ellie, they just look different. Which is to be expected. They play the roles perfectly while not imitating what came before.

Beyond that the sense of place looks like it was shot on location in the game. This is the world of The Last of Us.

As stated, an adaptation of such a great cinematic game is no easy undertaking. You have to strike a balance of being faithful enough for fans of the source material while also keeping it fresh for a story we’ve known for a decade. On top of that, Mazin and Druckmann have to make a show that will appeal to as many people who aren’t familiar with the game as possible. I’m pleased to say they have struck that balance perfectly and I can’t wait to see all of the neat ways they continue to do so throughout the remaining eight episodes.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • The cast is excellent, especially Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie
  • Remains faithful to the opening of the game while fleshing it out more for maximum effect
  • It looks expensive in the best way possible to recreate the world of the game

Cons:

  • Watching the opening chaos doesn’t have the same impact as playing it due to similar movies and shows that came before
  • Not sold on the spores being replaced by tendrils

European Commission to Send Antitrust Warning Against Microsoft-Activision Acquisition

The European Commission (EC) is allegedly preparing an antitrust warning against Microsoft‘s Activision acquisition deal. The warning, said to be made via a statement of objections, will lay out the organization’s concerns regarding the deal.

According to a recent report from Reuters, claims of the EC making said statement comes from people “familiar with the deal.” When asked to comment on the report, the organization refused to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, here’s what Microsoft had to say: “We’re continuing to work with the European Commission to address any marketplace concerns. Our goal is to bring more games to more people, and this deal will further that goal.”

The reported antitrust warning wouldn’t be the first we’ve heard of concerns surrounding the deal outside the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Nvidia and Google have also voiced their own issues on the matter, as acquiring Activision would further bolster Microsoft’s mobile gaming and subscription-based gaming services.

Despite Microsoft claiming that the company would try to offer remedies to the EC and the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), said organizations would apparently not be open to them until the statement has been sent.
