Black Ops 3 Rumors Suggest Cybernetic Implants, Enhanced Player Movement, But No Vertical Boost Jump

New Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 rumors surface that dive further into the game’s suggested exploration of themes like cybernetic implants and robotics.

Call of Duty YouTuber TheLongSensation posted a fairly convincing video earlier today covering some of his own research into what he believes is leaked information on the setting of Black Ops 3.

We normally wouldn’t highlight such a speculative video, but the details line up with almost all of the rumors we’ve heard from various sources thus far. He also went out of his way to prove the legitimacy of his source, even though he/she remains unnamed.

As the game’s official description that leaked yesterday suggests, Black Ops 3 will take place in “a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldiers emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare.”

TheLongSensation’s information describes a handful elite soldiers in Black Ops 3’s setting that are part of the EVO (Evolved Variable Operator) program, which essentially enhances, or perhaps even replaces, a combatant’s limbs or entire body with cybernetics. *Insert RoboCop comparisons here.* It sounds pretty insane, but if you take a look at a brightened up version of yesterday’s leaked image, the tech does appear to go deeper than just the exterior of his arms, and, if we may, he does look awfully similar to your friendly neighbourhood RoboCop.

Screen Shot 2015-04-10 at 3.25.05 PM

TheLongSensation’s source goes on to say that the cybernetics will allow soldiers to dash and slide while in combat, but they’ll be unable to vertical boost-jump the way soldiers do in Sledgehammer Games’ Advanced Warfare. This is allegedly in order to preserve Call of Duty’s run-and-gun gameplay. He adds that the cybernetics will also allow soldiers to withstand harsher environments, take more damage, and increase their strength, though it’s not clear if this is specific to single player or multiplayer gameplay.

In the campaign, he suggests that questioning of how far humanity is willing to go with this new technology will act as the central theme of the story. After all, the phrase “How far are we willing to go” was also thrown around by developer Treyarch during Black Ops 3’s official reveal.

Additionally, on April 3, the studio posted this article on their Facebook page discussing retinal implants that act as an internal compass for the wearer. Prior to this, other articles were shared ranging in subject matter from night-vision injections to microchip implants, clearly indicating that Black Ops 3 may explore the science of human implants and other bodily enhancements.

Lastly, it might be worth noting that Treyarch Design Director David Vonderhaar favorited a tweet suggesting that traditional exo-skeleton suits as we know them will not play a role in the game.

We’ll find out soon, hopefully, as Black Ops 3 is due for an official global reveal later this month on Sunday, April 26. For now, you can check out TheLongSensation’s video below.

Speculation – Is Xbox Hyping Up a Gears of War Announcement?

Is Microsoft ‘gearing’ up for a Gears of War-related announcement? The launch of an oddly-timed Gears of War 3 midnight launch video appears to suggest so.

The company published the footage (above) earlier today, celebrating the midnight launch of Epic’s Gears of War 3 in New York, Mexico City, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea in 2011. Having released in September, it’s not like the Xbox team is celebrating any sort of anniversary for the series, so it leads us to wonder if the studio is merely trying to build up excitement for Black Tusk Studio’s unannounced Gears of War Xbox One project. Honestly, it’s about time we heard something anyways.

Black Tusk, for those who might not remember, is a newly formed Microsoft studio based out of Vancouver, Canada that is leading development on the newest chapter of the long-running Xbox-exclusive third-person shooter series. We learned of its new status back in January of 2014 and have heard little since, other than a few job postings and the studio’s excitement for toying with “awesome” and “innovative” concepts for the title.

As we approach E3 2015 only a few months away, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Microsoft were to announce an E3 announcement some time soon, so keep your eyes and ears open. This video could very well be the start of the company’s new Gears of War marketing campaign.

Gears of War: Judgment was also recently made available as a free download for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360.

Are we looking for clues that aren’t there, or do you think some sort of Gears of War announcement is impending?

Report – Advanced Warfare’s Atlas Gorge Bonus Map Appears Free To Download On Xbox

Reports are coming in that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s Atlas Gorge bonus multiplayer map is now free to download for non-Season Pass holders on Xbox.

The map, based on the classic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare map Pipeline, was originally included as a bonus for owners of Advanced Warfare’s Collector’s Editions or Season Pass. With the release of the recently-announced Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Gold Edition, it appears Activision and Sledgehammer Games are now making the map a free download to all.

It doesn’t look like anything official has popped up as of yet in terms of announcements, but the reports coming in thus far have all been from Xbox One users (1) (2) (3).

If it is indeed the case, it’s likely the map will enter the map rotation in public matchmaking as well. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything from Activision or Sledgehammer.

Destiny Update 1.1.2 Brings New Changes To PvP Ammo Pickups And Gear Management

As the launch of Destiny Update 1.1.2 approaches, scheduled to hit all platforms before the end of this month, developer Bungie is detailing a few more of the upgrades the patch will introduce to their shared-world shooter in due time.

Two elements that were touched on in the studio’s latest Weekly Update were ammo drops in player vs. player gameplay and improvements to the way you manage your Guardian’s arsenal.

“A common thread has been the uptime, effectiveness, and usage of Special and Heavy weapons,” said Crucible Designer Kevin Yanes. “At the highest level, we had a few goals in mind [with update 1.1.2].”

  • Make Special ammo a more precious resource in Crucible
  • Further solidify Heavy ammo’s role in the Crucible
  • Further improve the balance of encounters by limiting high-damage weapons

He added that the designers believe that “making ammo more scarce and important will provide players with more choices and more memorable encounters in Crucible.”

“Special Ammo will spawn less frequently, it will take longer to pick up, there will be less crates located on the map, and the bricks you find will provide you with less ammo.”

With the new change, opening a crate without waiting for teammates will deny them of that special ammo. Yanes explained that, to prevent this, Bungie “raised the drop radius for teammates by a considerable amount.”

“Raising the drop radius helped players understand the importance of pulling a crate as soon as they could, while ensuring that nearby teammates would still benefit from the drop. We’ve already seen some great plays come from last second pulls to deny enemies and supply allies.”

Changes are also being made to the way Heavy Ammo spawns — and now despawns — during a match.

“The main thing we wanted to prevent in terms of Heavy Ammo was players trying to buffer their supply by sitting within range of a brick without picking it up,” Yanes said. “This hurts your ability to anticipate when heavy ammo would be in play during a match. By introducing despawn conditions, we’re ensuring that players will have to acquire ammo when it becomes available, or risk losing it all together.

“We think the transition back to regular gameplay is super important because it gives the team on the losing end of Heavy Ammo distribution a chance to rally back.

“Extending the inbound timer by five seconds allowed more players to get to the ammo. We’re also adding some new visual prompts, like timers and pre-spawn effects, to forecast the arrival of all ammo crates. More advance notice reduces how often players open the crate without their teammates having a chance to get to it.”

special_ammo

If you happen to be a Destiny player with children or pets that like to crawl over things, including controllers, you’ll appreciate the new Item Lock feature that Bungie is implementing with Update 1.1.2. The new tweak will allow Guardians to lock any pieces of gear in order to prevent them from being accidentally dismantled. You’ll now see a little lock or unlock symbol next to your items, as seen below:

suros_lock

“We all agreed that it’s important to give players every opportunity to show off the cool gear they’ve earned,” said UI Engineer Daniel Hanson. So, in Update 1.1.2, Guardians will now have the option to wear their helmet while running tasks, visiting vendors, or socializing in the Tower.

“It turned out to be a fairly quick UI task to turn helmets on in the Tower,” Hanson added. “Our engineers banged out the code for it in short order. All we had to do was figure out where to put the menu option. A number of locations in the UI were discussed. Character screen? Details screen? We decided that the Settings menu was the most obvious and easiest place to control this new feature.”

helmets_onAs Bungie Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague put it, “There’s nothing left to say about the next Destiny update, aside from the fact that you’ll download it soon.”

Detailed patch notes will be available shortly, so keep your eyes locked on MP1st for updates!

Black Ops 3 Setting Leaked, Definitely From The Future, Exo Suits Return

Additional marketing material for Treyarch’s just-announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has leaked, revealing the full look of the mysterious soldier silhouette that was teased in the announcement trailer earlier today.

His gear and outfit are quite clearly from a time beyond ours; you can even make out a more sleek-looking exo-skeleton –though perhaps more robotic in nature — that surrounds the outer layer of his arms and likely his back and legs as well. The giveaway is the outer plating attached to the rotary motor devices at his elbows.

CCLHACfWIAA1irR

If anything, the material suggests that the game will primarily take place in the future and will feature advanced soldier movement and strength similar to what Sledgehammer Games introduced in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

A game description discovered by Twitter user @ThaTiemsz on the official Call of Duty website also confirms that Black Ops 3 will once again be made up of three primary game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. It also explains that the setting will take place in a “twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldiers emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare.”

“Call of Duty®: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most played games in Call of Duty® history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldiers emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies, it providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops’ setting spanned the Vietnam War with a flashback or two set in the World War 2 era. Meanwhile, Black Ops 2’s campaign primarily took place in the year 2025 with flashbacks to the original Black Ops’ timeline. This year, it appears that Treyarch is pushing the boundaries even further with a setting that takes place during the peak of our technological evolution.

How do you feel about the newly surfaced details? Tell us in the comments and keep your sights on MP1st for more Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 updates.

Black Ops 3 Teaser Trailer References Zombies, Coordinates, & Other Clues

As you probably know by now, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is coming, as revealed by Activision’s surprise announcement earlier today.

The 1-minute teaser trailer sure didn’t tell us a whole lot, other than the title and the official reveal date of April 26. But if you look closer, amidst the flurry of streaming numbers, letters, and symbols that the camera pans through throughout the entire video, there are certainly a few clues we can use to start building a proper picture.

We’ll take you through a few of the things we spotted but also want to hear from you in the comments if you found anything we missed. We’ll continue adding whatever we might find. So, let’s get started.

First, here’s a recap are the quotes that were read during the trailer. All but one are from previous Black Ops titles. The final one is presumed to be read by an unknown character in Black Ops 3.

“This should help you remember everything.” – Unknown, Black Ops

“The numbers, Mason. What do they mean?” – Jason Hudson, Black Ops

“Everything you know is wrong.” – Unknown, Black Ops

“Your life will be consumed by absolute loss.” – Raul Menendez, Black Ops 2

“He doesn’t need his own weapons. He’s got ours.” – Adm. Tommy Briggs, Black Ops 2

“They’ll always need men like us.” – Sgt. Frank Woods, Black Ops 2

“Our greatest barrier is our own fear. Our own doubts. The only thing holding us back is how far we are willing to go.” – Unknown, Black Ops 3

This set of coordinates below points to the 6 October Bridge in Cairo, Egypt. Also note the number “115” in multiple locations, clearly referencing Treyarch’s Zombies game mode, which will very likely make a return in Black Ops 3. Perhaps an outbreak begins in Egypt? Zombie Mummies. You heard it here first, people.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.29.47 AM

There’s also a strange symbol hidden in the top right corner of the screen that looks almost like a bear claw or an eye. It could very well end up being the insignia for a playable faction in Black Ops 3.

The set of coordinates tucked away on the right side of this screen below point to a prison in Zurich, Switzerland called Gefängnis Zürich.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.35.04 AM

UPDATE: @Drift0r pointed out a third set of coordinates that point to a public school in Singapore.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 3.21.36 PM

UPDATE: Drift0r also pointed out this constellation, which was discovered to be the Corvus constellation. Corvus roughly translates to “Raven,” which could have some significance in relation to the ravens that were shown in the game’s Snapchat teasers earlier.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 3.33.21 PM

Here’s that Trident emblem again, possibly another faction insignia.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.16.08 AM

Some very strange symbols were spotted in the top half of this screen. They could be alien or ancient in nature. After all, we know Call of Duty has been ever-so-gently dipping its toes into the world of science-fiction and fantasy with its most recent titles. Another thought: could they be Prestige symbols?

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.34.10 AM

There’s some oriental writing, we presume, on the far left of this screen. UPDATE: Nemesis_96 points out in the comments below that the writing is in Chinese and says 5, 10, 4, or 5, 14.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.38.00 AM

A barcode? It might be a little too blurry to even scan properly, but it’s worth a try if one has the proper equipment.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.39.26 AM

This last image clearly references the original Black Ops box art. As the narrator in the teaser trailer suggests, its highly likely that Black Ops 3’s story will tie in with the rest of the series. We’ll probably end up learning a thing or two about the events from the first tow games from a different perspective.

Screen Shot 2015-04-09 at 10.40.31 AM

Call_of_Duty_Black_Ops-2

Lastly, and this one might be a bit of a stretch, you’ll notice that the “III” in the new Black Ops 3 logo stems from the “I” and then the “II”. Was this Activision and Treyarch’s sneaky way of telling us that their next project could, in fact, be a next-gen Black Ops collection that includes all three titles? By highlighting quotes and logos from the previous games, it seems to suggest so, but that is purely wild speculation.

As we mentioned above, drop your findings in the comments below and let’s see what we can come up with.

Here’s the teaser trailer one more time.

Treyarch Is #BackInBlack With Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Full Reveal On April 26

Publisher Activision has confirmed ‘Black Ops 3’ as the official title of the upcoming Call of Duty 2015 game currently in development at Treyarch.

Story, setting, and multiplayer details are still being kept under wraps, but the new teaser trailer, which you can watch above, suggests that fans will learn much more on April 26 when a proper reveal will take place.

The title announcement, which arrived a tad earlier than usual this year, was preceded by a viral marketing campaign that began with a recent Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 update earlier this week. A second update, along with the release of the game’s first marketing materials, led to even more clues.

Back when it was announced that Treyarch would be leading development on this year’s Call of Duty, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg noted that the shooter will be “loaded with innovation” and that it will be the first release for the studio on the franchise’s new three-year development cycle.

Now that the curtain has lifted, are you surprised? How do you think Treyarch might shake things up with Black Ops 3 this year?

Rainbow Six Siege Closed Alpha – Video Review

There’s a lot to be impressed by in the Rainbow Six Siege Closed Alpha. While it is very much an early Alpha not really fit for public release, it’s still good enough to prove that Siege isn’t just another run of the mill shooter.

[youtube id=”Yajpnd2YhNs”]

Everything about Siege’s gameplay is obviously well-intended with good talent and direction behind it. There are a number of areas that Ubisoft Montreal desperately needs to improve upon and reconsider, but if they do, Siege will be the shooter you and your friends all throw away days of your life on.

Admittedly, it’s not a casual shooting gallery, at least it’s not intended to be. The Closed Alpha isn’t particularly well-balanced when it comes to play styles. It seems like running and gunning can be very effective. Thankfully, tactical gameplay is more effective. That said, both are currently viable play styles, each with their own merits, drawbacks, and balance issues. Despite its balances issues, I’m still having a wonderful time playing Siege, especially when my teammates are cooperative.

It’s worth mentioning that I didn’t just use my Closed Alpha access to review Siege. I am genuinely continuing to play it and will be putting at least few hours a day into it until it ends on the 13th. Siege fills a gap in the multiplayer FPS world for me that has been empty since Black Ops 1. While I think Survarium is great and am eager to get my hands on The Division, Siege gets my blood flowing in the same way that competitive matchmaking in CS:GO does, without the frustrations that come with the Counter-Strike experience.

As for Closed Alpha issues, it’s pretty grim. Being locked out of the graphical options, option changes not saving between launches, no option to actually quit the game, open mic being the only VOIP option, and various texture and animation issues all demonstrate that Ubisoft Montreal has been focused on the mechanics of Siege and haven’t done much in the way of optimization or polishing. It’s playable and plays pretty well for an early Alpha, but its configuration option should have been more polished prior to release. The game itself runs at a stable 60-80 FPS on my i7 3770k, GTX 970 system, which is promising but is clearly going to change as development continues.

My verdict for the current offering of Rainbow Six Siege is that, despite the Closed Alpha’s issues, the core gameplay is fantastic, regardless of its balance and overall design issues. If Ubisoft Montreal pays close attention and executes well on improvements to Siege, it’s going to be one of the best games of 2015 and possibly one of the best multiplayer FPS games in recent years.

More Call of Duty 2015 Marketing Appears, New Black Ops 2 Update Leaves Additional Clues

Strange things are happening as excitement builds for Activision and Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game.

Following a series of Snapchat teases that began after a discovery YouTuber Drift0r made while revisiting Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the game has been updated once again to display the following in-game message:

CCFlR6mWYAEWlS4

“And so it begins…” with the same tree and blue tint found in previous Snapchat clues.

As our friend PrestigeIsKey and his followers discovered upon further inspection, players will also notice that, after the update, the “B” is now missing from Ballista, the “4” is missing from AN-94, and the “1” is missing from the +100 score you earn for getting kills.

If you were to gather up the missing numbers and letters, it would spell “B41”. As you probably already know, the B41 is a 25 megaton thermonuclear weapon that was deployed by the United States Strategic Air Command in the early 1960’s and, now, it might have some sort of connection to Call of Duty 2015.

UPDATE 1: Call of Duty YouTube Commentator TmarTn pointed out in his latest video that the “7” from MP7 and one of the “L”s from the Double Kill medal are also missing, so we might have to dig a little deeper than the connection to the B41 bomb. As of this writing, the missing numbers and letters are B, L, 1, 4, and 7.

There’s also this hidden emblem in the picture above that PrestigeIsKey also tweeted out:

CCFreSRUoAEbwrQ-1

Oddly, @blackfire561 may have linked it to this real life company, Watermans Applied Science, who sport the same trident logo.

Lastly, Activision has released additional official marketing material in the form of social media headers and profile pictures. Here’s what the Twitter header looks like:

COD_TWITTER_COVERPHOTO

It’s hard to make out, but it looks like it could either a pool of blood or floating burning embers. We’ll have to wait to find out.

UPDATE 2: It’s kind of a long shot, but the marketing image above does resemble elements from Call of Duty: World at War’s key art, specifically, the burning embers. That could merely be a coincidence, however.

4448564_640px

Yesterday, we rounded up a few extra clues that lead us to believe the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division will play a role in Call of Duty 2015.

What do you make of all the hints and teases left out so far?

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Call of Duty 2015 news.

Battlefield Hardline General Manager Steve Papoutsis Departs EA

Visceral Games General Manager Steve Papoutsis has departed the studio and EA nearly one month following the launch of their latest project, Battlefield Hardline.

According to reports by Kotaku, Papoutsis is being replaced by Scott Probst, who is son of former EA Executive Larry Probst. An EA rep issued a small statement, saying, “We are thankful for Steve’s many contributions to EA and wish him the best.”

Previously, Papoutsis was involved in the development of Dead Space (2008), Dead Space 2 (2011), and Dead Space: Aftermath (2011) before switching gears to work on a cops and criminals spin-off of the long-running Battlefield franchise, typically developed at EA studio DICE. You may remember him as a speaker at various Battlefield Hardline presentations, including Visceral’s E3 conference last year.

EA tells GameInformer that the change in leadership isn’t related to Battlefield Hardline and that Visceral Games will continue to support the title without interruption. Currently, the studio is also working on a new Star Wars project with Creative Director Amy Hennig.

Call of Duty 2015 Teasers Tied To 101st Airborne Division, Sgt. Frank Woods Voice Actor Returns?

As fans dig deeper into the ongoing Call of Duty 2015 viral videos teased by Activision, new discoveries are beginning to at least narrow down the possibilities with regards to the game’s setting or story.

Having a looking at some of the clues offered thus far in Activision’s Snapchat teasers, a rough pattern can be noticed, one that links to the United States Army’s 101st Airborne Division, aka the “Screaming Eagles”, which originally began operations in 1942.

As fans have already determined, the helicopter briefly shown in Activision’s second teaser is quite clearly the Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk, which was first piloted by members of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade in 1979. Another reddit user pointed out that the snow-covered hill, also in Activision’s second teaser, looks awfully similar to the Ardennes Forest, a region that spans parts of France and Germany, but mostly Luxembourg and Belgium. The Ardennes region became home to the Battle of the Bulge that began in December, 1944, a battle the 101st Airborne Division was involved in around the city of Bastogne.

UPDATE 1: Activision’s latest Snapchat teaser, as of this Tuesday evening on April 7, makes mention of a “frozen forest,” likely referencing the Ardennes Forest and the Battle of the Bulge once again.

The 101st Airborne Division is mostly noted for its involvement in World War 2 — the D-Day landings and airborne jumps, Operation Market Garden, the liberation of the Netherlands, Battle of the Bulge — as well as the fight for Hamburger Hill during the Vietnam War. It wasn’t until after 1974 when it became an air assault division that the 101st would begin piloting helicopters. Most recently, the 101st served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But enough of the Wikipedia-inspired history lesson. How does the 101st potentially tie in to Call of Duty 2015, or what many are anticipating to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 3?

Here’s the kicker. As YouTuber TheGameWarrior pointed out, voice actor James C. Burns, who voices Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 protagonist Sgt. Frank Woods, can be seen wearing the the 101st Airborne Division logo on his cap in two of his most recent videos. Clearly, between these teasers and Burns’ videos, at least some measure of emphasis is being placed on the 101st. We’re just not exactly sure where Activision is trying to lead us on this one.

Activity picked up on Burns’ YouTube channel just over one week ago with this video:

[youtube id=”YrZAuA4TdVI”]

In another video, Burns mentions that he “will be talking about the next Call of Duty game in whatever limited fashion [he] can” in his upcoming videos, which appears to confirm his involvement in the upcoming game being developed by Treyarch. We reached out to Activision for comment and will update you with what we might find out.

Expect more details as we inch closer to Call of Duty 2015’s official reveal, likely to take place early May.

New Advanced Warfare Personalization Items Arrive, PlayStation 4 Gets Advanced Supply Drops

New gear is coming to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Advanced Supply Drops, including the Surfer, Lagoon, Tiki, and Kraken Exo Suits (pictured below).

There’s also this new “Hammer” gear if you feel like representing the makers of the game.

These are in addition to the Cowboy and Psychadelic Exo Suits that were introduced earlier on as a way to spice up Advanced Warfare’s customization options.

Sledgehammer Games Studio Head Michael Condrey dropped the hint earlier today and players have already begun discovering the new loot:

As promised, PlayStation 4 users are also getting access to Advanced Supply Drops today, originally exclusive to Xbox users.

Advanced Supply Drops can be purchased in packages of 1, 3, 5, and 10 for $1.99, $5.99, $9.99, and $19.99, respectively. Advanced Supply Drops are also awarded for hitting ranks 20, 30, 40, and for reaching a new Prestige level. Each drop supplies the player with three items, at least one of which is a weapon variant and one that is of Professional quality or better.

Advanced Supply Drops are still en route to PlayStation 3 and PC, so stay tuned for updates.

Rainbow Six Siege Closed Alpha Arrives On PC Today

The Rainbow Six Siege Closed Alpha, announced last month, has officially kicked off as of 7AM PST today, ending at the same time next week on Monday, April 13.

Users who were granted access can now launch the Closed Alpha from their Uplay client and will be allowed stream and capture gameplay freely, without restrictions, says Ubisoft.

Here are some basic instructions on how to get set up:

  1. Download Uplay PC installer here: https://uplay.ubi.com/#!/en-US/
  2. Install Uplay PC and log into your account
  3. Click on the cog icon in the upper-right corner to display the menu and then click ‘activate product’
  4. Enter your Alpha key in the input field and press OK
  5. The final confirmation will be displayed, showing the content you are about to activate
  6. Press OK and it’s done!

Available in the Closed Alpha is Rainbow Six Siege’s defining 5 vs. 5, no-respawn game mode called Hostage Rescue. It will be playable on two maps, House and Presidential Plane. Users will also get access to the 10 distinct Operator classes that were outlined earlier this week in greater detail.

“This is a chance for the dev team to really put Rainbow Six Siege through its paces,” writes Ubisoft Communications Specialist Anne Lewis, “but because it’s in alpha you may notice some things in the environment seem unfinished. That’s because the team at Ubisoft Montreal is working hard to put the siege gameplay and innovative destruction technology first for players to get a good sense of how the game will feel and play.”

Though final specs for the game aren’t quite nailed down just yet, Ubisoft Montreal promises a 60 FPS frame rate for both the Alpha and the final release. “With the game being all about indoor close quarter combat, we are making sure that 60 FPS and low latency are mandatory so that player’s input is fast and responsive,” says Gameplay Designer Andrew Witts.

If you missed out on the Closed Alpha, there’s still a chance to register for the Rainbow Six Siege Closed Beta on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, arriving later this year.

You can also follow us on our official Twitch channel and keep an eye on our Twitter to find out when we’ll be live streaming gameplay. Our first broadcast is planned for tonight at 6PM PST.

Stay tuned for more gameplay videos, as well as our first impressions in the coming days.

Call of Duty 2015 Viral Marketing Campaign Begins With Black Ops 2

Update 4

Here’s the fifth Call of Duty Snapchat update, this time a flurry of images, some of which appear to be a scan of someone’s brain.

Update 3

Two additional teasers have popped up, the first video is relatively short, depicting a blue-tinted sunset or sunrise. Applying a filter over it reveals the name, “Dr. Salim,” which also happens to be the name Call of Duty’s official Snapchat has changed its username to.

The latest teaser features the same narrator as in previous teasers, this time saying, “Imagine somewhere calm. Imagine somewhere safe. Imagine yourself in a frozen forest.” You can watch the video here.

Thanks, CharlieIntel, for the images.

Update 2

A second Call of Duty Snapchat update went live, flashing images of what appears to be scenes from the Vietnam War. There’s also this continuation of the mysterious dialogue: “Let your thoughts drift. Let the bad memories fade. Let peace be upon you.” Here’s a link to the video.

Update 1

Call of Duty’s Snapchat has updated their page with a new teaser video. The mysterious voice says, “Listen only to the sound of my voice.” You can watch it here.

As some users have been pointing out, the light shining through the trees creates three distinct white lines, perhaps suggesting “Black Ops III” is what’s being teased here.

Original Story

A potential viral marketing campaign for Treyarch’s upcoming Call of Duty 2015 title has allegedly been discovered inside a recently updated build of the studio’s previous title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Call of Duty YouTube personality Drift0r spotted the possible hint in a video he recorded earlier today. On a select number of in-game billboards installed on various multiplayer maps, users will find a Snapchat code that leads to the message, “callofduty is already your friend!” Have a look in the featured video above and the image below, again, courtesy of Drift0r.

Here’s our own confirmation that the QR code actually exists on the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Test Screen Shot 2015-04-06, 4.08 PM

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Treyarch would lead production on Call of Duty 2015, marking the first time the studio has been allotted three years of development time. Historically, it’s expected that an official tease or reveal will take place in early May, which is what this alleged marketing campaign could possibly be leading us towards.

Either way, it’s certainly a clever move to get fans hyped for this year’s Call of Duty, presumed by many to be a continuation of Treyarch’s Black Ops series, while tempting eager clue finders to revisit the studio’s previous title. As always, stay tuned for updates.

Xbox One April Update Now Live, Minus Dedicated Chat Servers

Xbox One’s April Update is now available to the public to download for free.

While it packs in new improvements to Party Chat, Game Hubs, Achievements, and What’s On, both the previously promised Dedicated Chat Server upgrade and Voice Message feature had to be cut from this update in order to provide the Xbox team with additional testing time.

You can check out the video above for a brief overview or keep reading to check out a few more detailed notes, courtesy of Xbox Wire, below.

Xbox One April Update

Party chat improvements

“Over the past few months, we’ve added additional icons and notifications within the party chat experience to help you understand your connection and microphone status. This month, party chat is being improved with troubleshooting guidance for Xbox One owners. The party app will help you get your microphone enabled and show you when privacy settings or networking issues are blocking communication with particular party members.”

Game hub links

“In February, we introduced game hubs where you can be the first to get news on upcoming updates, featured game clips, behind the scenes content and more. With this update, you can more easily discover game hub content from activity feed items. You’ll see activity feed items when any of your friends follow a game, and you’ll also be able to get back to a game’s hub from activity feed posts related to the game – including feed items about the game’s achievements, game clips and screenshots. Finally, we’ve added a link to game hubs from the game’s page in the achievements app.”

Achievement notifications

“Achievement notifications today display the achievement name and the gamerscore you just earned. With tonight’s update, you’ll also see the achievement’s description in the notification so you know what you did to earn this achievement without having to open the achievements app. Based on feedback from preview program members, we increased the time that an achievement notification is displayed and we also made some performance improvements to make loading the achievements app from a notification faster.”

What’s On

“The What’s On area is now available for Xbox One users in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. In it, you’ll find links to popular videos, games, movies, TV shows, game broadcasts and clips, along with Trending TV shows if you have configured OneGuide for your Xbox One console.”

Survarium PvP Beta – Video Review

Developed by former members of the STALKER series development team, Survarium is the kind of game that aims to please. It’s fun, it’s rewarding, and best of all, it’s free.

Normally, I don’t pay much mind to F2P games as their core features are typically either hidden behind a paywall, cheap feeling, or both. Survarium joins the ranks of other F2P games like Path of Exile and DOTA2 as games that aren’t hindered by being free.

[youtube id=”YPj_dSf1PD4″]

Survarium is still in beta, so there are features missing and some polishing to be done, but overall I feel confident recommending Survarium to anyone looking for a tactical twitch shooter in the vein of Insurgency and Call of Duty.

You can download the beta from the game’s official website or on Steam.
