Battlefield 4’s Community Map Project Needs Your Help To Choose A Jungle Layout

Battlefield 4‘s Community Map Project, announced back in February as a free multiplayer add-on whose development would be guided by the game’s fans, is nearly on its way to production, but still needs your help.

Developer DICE LA is now asking fans to help finalize a solid concept for the map. Previously, a jungle atmosphere was selected as its setting and points of interest were also narrowed down to features like waterfalls, jungle clearings, and temple ruins. Now comes the final, and perhaps most important aspect of the concept phase: the map’s layout. In DICE LA’s newest poll, there are three to choose from.

“The idea with having three concept options is to incorporate the previous poll results and ideas, while still maintaining three distinctly different map layouts and settings,” the studio writes. “We chose to focus each of the concepts around one of the top 5 Points of Interests, and of course they all include a waterfall – after all, this was the top rated Point of Interest!”

DICE LA stresses that the concept won’t be final, but will act as a guide for the development team and help select resources and other assets. “It does not mean we can’t change things if we realize something doesn’t work out or just plays badly when testing it in the production phase,” they say.

You can vote for yourself right here, but read on for a glimpse at the three suggested layouts. Tell us which one you’re most interested in in the comments below!

Bungie Cracks Down On Destiny’s Chronic Idlers, Raid & Strike Updates Incoming

Chronic idlers beware. Bungie is cracking down on the small handful of individuals who make it a point to burden others with an inactive fire team members during Destiny‘s PvP matches and PvE missions. We’ve all met one or two in our adventures, though hopefully no more.

“In Destiny’s community, the efforts of a dedicated player can have a huge impact on the experience of hundreds or thousands of other players. Most of the time, this is awesome,” Bungie User Research Lead John Hopson said in the studio’s latest Weekly Update.

“Unfortunately, there are a few individuals who have put in that same level of monomaniacal effort into being jerks. Sitting idle in Strikes and PvP has been on our radar for a while now, but it’s become clear that a small number of the worst idlers are responsible for damaging the experiences of thousands of other players.”

According to Hopson, the studio has “restricted a small number of the most toxic players from matchmaking” this week, placing those individuals under a temporary ban that only applies to the activities they’ve committed the greatest number of offenses in. “If the affected players keep up this behavior after the restrictions lapse, we will apply stronger and (eventually) permanent restrictions on their accounts,” he added.

Hopson stresses, however, that this new policy will only apply to Destiny’s most severe idlers, meaning stepping out for a moment to take a bathroom break won’t earn you a ban. “There is no way you will accidentally be flagged under this policy unless you are a truly dedicated idler, someone who has really gone out their way to repeatedly cheat their teammates,” he explained.

Lastly, he reminds players to use Destiny’s report feature. “We will never act on player reports alone, but we use those reports to find areas and individuals where our automated detection systems aren’t working correctly. They are an invaluable part of how we tune the live experience of our game.”

While the Weekly Update didn’t quite get into any specific details, the rest of the page spoke of a few upcoming “targeted fixes” for Destiny’s PvE Raids and Strikes that will be introduced in Update 1.1.2. later this month. Here are the notes that were included:

  • “Raid Fixes – There are times when Atheon and Crota can be uncooperative, so we’re tackling their worst bugs.”
  • “Strikes – The numbers tell us that there are some missions that are successfully completed far less often than others, inspiring us to look at why people quit.”

Keep an eye out for patch notes later this month.

‘Call of Duty: The Modern Warfare Collection’ Scrapped Following Unresolved Legal Dispute

The highly anticipated ‘Call of Duty: The Modern Warfare Collection’ that was teased during the final hours of this past weekend’s Call of Duty Championship in Los Angeles, CA has allegedly been scrapped after a legal dispute between ex-Infinity Ward Executive Producer Marc Roobin and current studio head, Davie Stole.

Following Roobin’s recent departure from the studio, a legal investigation was issued looking into the disappearance of a USB drive from Infinity Ward’s head office in Woodland Hills, CA containing the original Modern Warfare font used for previous titles in the series. According to reports, the Topanga branch of the LAPD traced it to Roobin’s home mere hours after the case was opened.

When confronted, Roobin told authorities that the drive had somehow been unknowingly stowed away with his belongings that he collected from his former office the day after his resignation. He added that it was his intention to return the property as quickly as possible after learning of the strange incident, but that he was unable to do so after discovering that his wife’s cat, Price, had allegedly eaten the drive after their 3-year old son, Soap, placed it in the cat’s food bowl.

Unwilling to take the necessary steps to properly recover the drive, Roobin was arrested for theft and is now being investigated based on accusations of sabotage of Activision’s most successful IP.

“Until we can recover the drive containing the original Modern Warfare font, production on Call of Duty: The Modern Warfare Collection cannot continue,” an Activision spokesperson told us after we reached out for comment. “Appropriate actions are currently being taken against Roobin, as well as the additional Infinity Ward employees who failed to back up the font on the studio’s central database.”

Additional police reports suggest the studio’s janitor, Joseph Makarov, may have been involved in the incident, but was released from questioning due to a lack of supporting evidence and his inability to speak proper English.

According to Stole, the project ultimately must be scrapped as it is unlikely the dispute will be settled in time to complete development and prepare the collection for its originally planned Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC release date of April 1, 2016.

Stay tuned for updates.

Upcoming Battlefield 4 DLC Weapons Identified, Spring Update Due Before End Of May

The five DLC weapons that were promised to appear in an upcoming Battlefield 4 “Weapon Crate” have been identified thanks to a post by Reddit user “Mainfold”.

All five were discovered in the latest Community Test Environment update, which Mainfold kindly screen captured and posted in an Imgur album. The five new weapons are mostly bullpup designs, some of which you might recognize from previous Battlefield games. They are:

GROZA-1 Carbine

flXyMI9

AN-94 Assault Rifle

sdHkox1

GROZA-4 Personal Defense Weapon

9G4Ww3HL86A2 Light Machine Gun

6MQcDBL

Mare’s Leg Sidearm

G7YIIQP

According to DICE Weapon Animator who goes by the name “AnimationMerc” on Reddit, Battlefield 4 “shipped without many bullpup weapons so [the studio added] more to even the playing field and add variety in gameplay and weapon characteristics.”

“Otherwise we’d just have a bunch of M4 variant, 30+1 5.56 NATO rifles and that’d get boring after a while,” he added.

DICE LA is currently working on Battlefield 4’s Spring Update due for launch before the end of May which will include the new Weapon Crate, the return of the Gun Master game mode, and more updates to Battlefield 4’s weapons.

Both the new weapons and game mode are now available to test in the CTE.

UPDATE: YouTuber DANNYonPC sent us a gameplay clip he recorded of all five weapons in action. As you can see, a lot of them are still missing textures, but are at least fully-functioning in the CTE.

Mortal Kombat X – First Look At Goro This Saturday, GameStop Reveals Possible DLC Character Release Dates

The wait for Mortal Kombat X is almost over as the highly anticipated fighter from NetherRealm Studios is now officially 14 days from release, as of this writing.

However, even as we approach release, there are a few pieces of vital information that are still a mystery, such as when and where we can expect to see the first footage of Prince Goro who was revealed to be playable via pre-ordering all the way back in September.

Thanks to Amazon and Twitch, we will get to see the long awaited first in-game footage of Goro this Saturday during a special 5-hour long Twitch stream, according to GoroLives, that’s set to kick off at 4 PM EST.

Additionally, it appears that Gamestop Australia may have revealed the release dates for the Kombat Pack characters via a new ad that you can check below, thanks to TestYourMight:

YZoWFwZ

That said, the ad is highly questionable as the release dates stated for the DLC characters happen to fall on a Sunday and the images shown seem to be taken from a quick Google image search, so take the dates with a few teaspoons of salt.

In addition, it’s also been revealed during the latest rounds of media coverage for MKX that NetherRealm Studios will allow people to test DLC characters at no extra charge.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release on April 14 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.

Halo Championship Series Season 2 Details Announced – Everything You Need To Know

Halo developer 343 Industries has announced detailed plans for the anticipated second season of the Halo Championship Series following the conclusion of the first season last month at PAX East.

Season 2 of Halo’s ongoing Championship Series will be bigger and better than ever, says the studio, thanks to a handful of updates and improvements, including a prize pool increase to $250,000 for all online cups, all LAN events, and the Season 2 Finals. New Forge maps are also being added to the map pool while competitors can also look forward to updates to the roster rules, a simplified point structure, and the new Legendary Bracket. Here’s everything you need to know about HCS Season 2

Teaming up with ESL, 343 Industries has increased the prize pool of weekly Online Cups from $1,000 to $3,000, updating the prize breakdown to the following each week:

  • 1st Place – $1,500
  • 2nd Place – $1,000
  • 3rd Place – $500

Registrants will continue to compete in a single elimination, best-of-3 format while a new Open Bracket will be hosted on Saturdays. The top 8 teams of each Open Bracket will join the top 8 teams from the weekly HCS standings in the new Legendary Bracket in a single elimination, best-of-5 format. Here’s a more digestible visualization of the new set up:

hcs-s2-online-bracket-78cd1da69c414b138158de26200331dd

“With this format, amateur teams will have more opportunities to compete as they won’t be facing the best of the best teams in the early rounds,” says 343. “It is our hope that this opportunity will provide teams with more tournament experience each week.”

As previously announced, the first HCS tournament of Season 2 will take place at Iron Games HCS in Atlanta, Georgia. To seed the event, 343 will award “Preseason points” to HCS Preseason Cups 1 and 2 on April 5 and April 12. All teams competing in Iron Games HCS Atlanta on April 17-19 will be seeded in the following way:

  • HCS Preseason points
  • Iron Games HCS Atlanta online FFA
  • Teams that didn’t compete in either of the above will receive random seeds

hcs-s2-preseason-points-940b54cb19e34f498413ecc645d8942d

In addition, 343 is also working with Iron Games to introduce a second Season 2 opener, a $50,000 LAN tournament at Pop Con 2015 in the Indianapolis Convention Center, hosted by PGL, on June 26-28. Team passes are available now on PGL’s official website.

pgl-blog-banner-b6164b64810f49dea96ae0f5dff5baa2

Here’s the complete schedule for HCS Season 2, including the $150,000 ESL Season 2 Finals in Burbank, California on July 24-26 where the season’s top 8 teams will be invited to compete.

3-27-hcs-s2-roadmap-edit_v2-c90a4a01903a4a498a272db7e236df60

In order to simplify HCS Season 1’s point structure, HCS Point tiers will be replaced by a set number of points for online and LAN tournaments. Here’s the new point breakdown:

hcs-point-breakdown_s2-2c771c3529d14a588be80661825a4939

Updated roster rules will also force roster consistency, but will still allow teams to make changes during set transfer periods. Some of the new changes to the terms include:

  • Any team with a roster of 4 or 5 that loses a player or drops a player will not lose their points.
  • A player can only be added to a roster during a transfer period.
  • The amount of transfer periods has been increased from two to three.

New Forge maps are also being considered for Season 2 which will be finalized and implemented in Preseason Cup 2 on April 12. Current candidates include:

A weekend of upsets and unexpected match-ups left day three of the Call of Duty Championship 2015, Call of Duty’s biggest tournament of the year, without the line-up star teams we’re used to seeing later in the final matches.

IMG_1995Sledgehammer Games studio head Michael Condrey presents 2015 Call of Duty World Champion Denial eSports with their first place, $400,000 cheque. More pictures on our Facebook page.

In conclusion, the Call of Duty Championship 2015 was easily the most exciting championship to-date thanks to the blazing fast, Exo-powered gameplay of Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. It allowed for some never-before seen strategies, as well as a display of an even higher level of skill in gun-on-gun combat. Uplink stole the show as the game mode that got the biggest reaction from fans at the tournament and was home to some of the closest matches in the championship.

Whatever Treyarch’s got planned for their upcoming Call of Duty title, we can’t wait to see how the Call of Duty Championship will play out next year. Be sure to follow MP1st for more Call of Duty news, announcements, and coverage.

Ubisoft Shows Off The World’s Best Special Forces In Rainbow Six Siege, Collector’s Edition Announced

The last time we saw a Rainbow Six installment was in 2008, when Ubisoft launched the sequel to the critically acclaimed Rainbow Six: Vegas. With almost a decade of time to take the franchise in a new and invigorating direction, it looks that developer Ubisoft Montreal is bringing back the fan-favorite tactical shooter with some extra punch in its newest trailer, which you can view above.

With 20 Operators from 5 different Counter-Terrorist-Units from all over the world that you can choose from, Rainbow Six Siege is giving players more freedom to play how they want to, as each Operator has a “unique ability, which expands the potential for teamplay,” Says Creative Director Xavior Marquies in the behind the scenes video below. He goes on to say that once players choose an Operator, that operator is no longer available, “fostering communication” between teammates.

[youtube id=”ACpj8yDxaAg”]

The studio detailed 10 of the most recently revealed Operators, 5 Attackers and 5 Defenders, in their latest blog, including a more versatile Recruit class that lacks any special abilities, but whose loadout can be better tweaked to tackle more specific situations.

Here’s the list Ubisoft provided so far:

Attackers

Sledge – British SAS

“Sledge is the perfect Operator for the player who just wants to take care of business and doesn’t care if he or she makes some noise while doing it. Armed with a heavy-duty breaching hammer, Sledge is capable of destroying surfaces like walls, floors and barricades with speed and no small amount of force.”

Thermite – American FBI SWAT

“Like Sledge, Thermite doesn’t mind bringing the ruckus when it comes to getting a job done. His powerful thermite breach charges are capable of eating through the ultra-strong reinforced walls like they’re made of cotton candy.”

Ash – American FBI SWAT

“Ash is perfect for players who favor distance over up-close-and-personal combat. She can fire a long-distance breach charge, making her a handy Operator to have if you are down to only a couple of teammates.”

Thatcher – British SAS

“Armed with special EMP grenades, Thatcher can knock out all electronics in range for a short period of time. Use Thatcher to help your team get the upper hand against Defenders like Pulse, whose heartbeat monitor lets him track people through walls.”

Twitch – French GIGN

“Surveillance is key Rainbow Six Siege, and with Twitch, your surveillance can do some damage. Twitch has a handy little drone that can deliver electric shocks, dealing minor damage and disabling traps. She’s the perfect Operator for people who like to look before they leap.”

Defenders

Castle – American FBI SWAT

“Once everyone has spent their wall reinforcements, they will look to Castle and his durable Kevlar barricades. These can be placed in windows and doorways and take about 12 melee hits to bring down (as opposed to the average barricade’s 3 hits). Sledge can knock it down in 2 hits with his hammer, but the noise he makes will be more than enough warning for the Defenders behind Castle’s walls.”

Smoke – British SAS

“Smoke is the silent killer. He can deploy and remotely detonate a chemical gas charge that deals damage to everyone in range of the smoke. Dropping a charge near a potential breach point ensures you’ve got an extra line of defense should Attackers make it through. Hit them with the gas and let the bullets fly.”

Pulse – American FBI SWAT

“We’ve all wondered what it would be like to be able to see through walls. With Pulse’s heartbeat monitor you can do just that. Track your opponents’ heartbeats and determine their locations to help your team prep for attack. As this is still the Alpha build, the dev team admits this device is currently a bit too strong and they are working on ways to adjust it. ‘We already know Pulse’s heartbeat monitor is a little over-powered, so that’s something we’re aware of and will be fixing,’ says Witts. ‘This is the time for us to look at it and ask, How is it over-powered? Is it because you’re allowed to use it for too long? Is it because of the range? What can we do to perfect it?'”

Rook – French GIGN

“Nobody wants to go into battle naked (or no one sane does, anyway). Rook ensures his teammates go into the fight with some extra armor that might mean the difference between living to finish the round and going out in the first 30 seconds. If you choose to play as Rook, I recommend dropping his box of armor in a central area during the prep phase so your team can start out the round with some extra protective covering.”

Mute – British SAS

“Like Thatcher, Mute can knock out all electronics, but unlike Thatcher’s grenades, Mute operates a special jamming device that remains active until it’s destroyed. ‘Mute’s class is kind of a protector,’ says Witts. ‘He places his jammer in a certain spot and can protect that specific area from breach charges or drones. So if you go to breach a wall and try to remotely detonate your breach charge, his jammer might prevent you from doing that. You’ll either have to eliminate the jammer in that area or you can place a new breach charge somewhere else.'”

Lastly, Ubisoft also announced a Rainbow Six Siege collector’s edition called the Art of Siege Edition, which includes the game, a collector’s box, gold weapon skins for all guns in the game, and an exclusive 120-page Tactical Guide. It can be pre-ordered now on the Uplay Shop.

Rainbowsixsiegeartofsiegeedition

Anyone who pre-orders the game will gain access to Rainbow Six Siege’s Closed Beta, which will kick off later this year. Pre-ordering the game from the Uplay Shop will also score buyers an exclusive numbered steel book.

Be sure to catch Ubisoft’s official Rainbow Six Siege live stream, now live.

Halo Online Gameplay Leaks, New Video Reveals Maps And Weapons

Earlier this week, we learned that Russia is getting its own PC-exclusive, free-to-play Halo game developed by Saber Interactive. And while the studio currently has no plans to bring it to Western audiences, that hasn’t stopped North American gamers from showing a high level of interest regardless.

With the help of video game modders Gamecheat13 and Lord Zedd, Halo YouTuber Noble was not only able to get a hold of the Halo Online game files, but also load the files on his computer, allowing him to actually boot up and play the game.

He posted a 17-minute video showing off some of the maps and weapons, revealing a Halo shooter heavily based on Halo 3 with weapon and armor skins akin to Halo 4. Check it out.

[youtube id=”fy1jbrrMfZc”]

If you like what you saw, while it might be a long shot, hopefully 343 Industries announces solid plans for Halo on PC at E3 2015. We can only hope.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Halo updates.
