New Star Wars Battlefront Gameplay Details – 60 FPS on PS4, ADS In 1st-Person Mode, No 3D-Spotting, UI Info, & More

New Star Wars Battlefront gameplay details have surfaced following today’s big trailer reveal and initial information blowout.

According to gameplay impressions from Battlefield YouTuber JackFrags who had a chance to see Star Wars Battlefront running on a PlayStation 4, players in first-person mode will be able to aim down the sights of their weapons. Weapon selection includes blasters, hand guns, and sniper rifles, as well as pick-up items like rocket launchers. It appears as though weapons had a “cooldown” effect instead of a traditional ammunition count. Gadgets were made up of missile launchers, jet packs, grenades, sniper blasters, and bubble shields.

According to BattlefrontUpdates, who also got to play the game early, the tree-top Ewok villages on Endor’s moon were traversable and could be used as sniper nests. Y-Wing bombers were called in by activating a certain objective which then flew over the map, destroying the enemy AT-AT.

The game’s user interface is simple with a circular mini-map in the bottom left-hand corner that highlights incoming fire in the same style as Destiny or Halo. It also appears to give away your position when firing or sprinting. Four weapon and pick-up slots also appeared in the UI, three for primary weapons and one for pick-ups. No 3D-spotting similar to Battlefield is present.

On PlayStation 4, the game ran at 60 frames per second. Battlefield YouTuber LevelCapGaming praised the visuals, mentioning that DICE has clearly outdone the quality of Battlefield 4, even with regards to audio design.

Darth Vader appeared at the end of the gameplay demo as an enemy to the Rebel Alliance with powers like Force Choke and the ability to deflect blaster fire with his lightsaber. He, and other iconic characters like him, will be playable in the game via map ability unlocks. (Thanks, Victor!)

Star Wars Battlefront Gameplay Details And Images Emerge, Battle Of Jakku DLC Announced

The first official gameplay details and screens of DICE and EA’s Star Wars-themed shooter have emerged.

According to previewers, Star Wars Battlefront will be a first-person and third-person shooter — players can switch between the two points of view freely — with a focus on online multiplayer in up to 40-player battles. No traditional single player campaign will be present, but offline missions inspired my moments in the films can be tackled solo or cooperatively, either online or split-screen. They’ll offer high replay value with various difficulty levels.

Gameplay consists of many familiar elements from the movies, including vehicles like AT-STs, AT-ATs, Tie Fighters, Snow Speeders, X-Wings, Y-wings, and the Millenium Falcon; maps like the forest moon of Endor, Hoth, and Tatooine; and weapons like blasters and thermal detonators. Power-ups like shields and explosives will add an extra layer of gameplay. In a demo at the Star Wars Celebration, Rebels were able to use a bubble shield to protect themselves from blaster fire, for example.

In-game models are nearly perfect replicas of real life props thanks to a technique called photogrammetry, which turns photographs of objects into 3D models inside the Frostbite 3 engine which will power Battlefront.

Battles will consists of ground-based and vehicle-based combat that include dogfighting, but no dedicated space combat. The game will feature a “Partner” system that buddies up two players, forming a tag-team that plays together, spawns on each other, and can always see each other. These teams will share unlocks like weapon skills. Players will be able to customize characters with gear, weapons, and abilities.

DICE General Manager Patrick Bach says Star Wars Battlefront was designed much differently than previous Battlefield titles in their portfolio. Instead, the studio hoped to recapture the core of what makes Battlefront Battlefront. “The goal has never been to replicate or mimic another shooter,” he told Polygon.

Though the game is primarily centered around the original Star Wars trilogy, it will get a movie tie-in to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, releasing a few weeks after Battlefront’s November 17 launch, with the Battle of Jakku DLC – Jakku being the planet that has been featured in both The Force Awakens teasers released thus far. The expansion is free, will include two maps based on locations on the planet, and will be available on December 1 for those who have pre-ordered Star Wars Battlefront and December 8 for those who have not.

…the Battle of Jakku [is] the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet on the Outer Rim. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Battlefront

A DICE producer who goes by the name TheBikingViking on Reddit has confirmed that the game won’t support Battlelog and won’t launch from a browser on PC. “Going forward, the intention is definitely that Battlelog is a Battlefield franchise service,” he said.

Star Wars Battlefront launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 17. The shooter’s official gameplay reveal will debut on Star Wars’ official channels at 10:30AM PST today.

Here are six brand new gameplay screenshots that were unveiled earlier today:

Next Halo: MCC Title Update Launches Next Week, Halo: Spartan Strike Now Out On Steam, Windows, and iOS

As 343 Industries’ latest Windows and iOS game, Halo: Spartan Strike, launches, new details emerge on Halo: The Master Chief Collection‘s next title update, due some time next week.

“Over the past few weeks, the team has been cranking away on the upcoming April update, which has now entered the certification process and is on track for release next week,” wrote Halo Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynksy in a recent blog update.

We learned a little bit about it last month, but here are a few of the key highlights the upcoming patch will focus on, according to Dudynsky.

  • New penalties and monitoring for quitting and betrayals
  • A variety of ranking system improvements and fixes
  • Updated Halo 3 Forge to include editing for all game types

Game-specific improvements for each title are also inbound, including upgrades to parties, stability, and more. Playlist and Ranking updates are planned to go live shortly after the patch launches.

“Shortly after the content update drops (we’re aiming for the next day or so), we’ll be resetting ranks for the Halo 2: Anniversary playlist, and also adding ranking to Team Slayer and the Halo Championship Series playlists,” Dudynsky explains. “Over the following days, we’ll be monitoring results to ensure that everything is working properly before adding ranks to additional playlists.”

“With this same update, we’ll be bringing SWAT back as the featured playlist, this time with Halo 3 game types included, as the April CU will also bring with it some additional fixes to allow for Halo 3 map / game type integration into new and existing playlists. This also means that over the next few updates, you can expect more non-default Halo 3 maps and game types to make their way into matchmaking.”

Full patch notes will be available when the update goes live.

Meanwhile, Halo fans on Steam, Windows devices, and iOS devices can now download and play the follow up to 2014’s Halo: Spartan Assault, a top-down shooter based on adventures that run parallel to titles in the main series. Halo: Spartan Strike is available now for $5.99 USD and takes place during the events of Halo 2 on New Mombasa in 2552.

Battlefield Hardline’s First Title Update Will Bring Private Servers To Consoles

Battlefield Hardline is getting the attention it deserves nearly one month after launch.

Visceral Games Lead Multiplayer Designer on the project, Thad Sasser, has provided fans with more details on the game’s first title update, coming soon, in the form of a ‘Top 5 Community Most Wanted List’. The following items are what will be addressed in the upcoming patch:

  1. Punkbuster fixes – We’re addressing some of the heavy CPU usage seen by players
  2. Nvidia DirectX driver fixes – We’re working with our partners at Nvidia to create new drivers to prevent the most common crash issues
  3. Extended Conquest time – We’ve extended the length of Conquest matches by increasing the number of tickets on both Large and Small
  4. Fixed TDM spawns – We’ve adjusted spawn points and the spawn system for better TDM spawning
  5. Multiple weapon balance tweaks – We’ve addressed some common complaints with the weapon balance, there will be more coming soon

While these are the priorities that are at the top of Visceral and the community’s list, remember that Sasser also provided a much more detailed compilation of fixes and tweaks late last month that will also be making it into the game’s first update.

In today’s news post, he adds that, first and foremost, Visceral is still focused on ensuring stability. “Our view on the importance of this hasn’t changed,” he said. “While the launch has proven stable, we can always get better and you’ll see some miscellaneous fixes for the most frequent crashes in this patch.

Furthermore, Sasser revealed that EA’s Rent-A-Server program will also make a return, giving console owners the opportunity to rent private, customizable servers in Battlefield Hardline, as was the case with Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 before it.

“If your favorite fix isn’t listed here, don’t despair,” Sasser explained in closing. “Just remember that fixes will always run behind community sentiment; we’re still working hard every day to improve the gameplay experience to make Battlefield Hardline even more fun.”

Latest Destiny Data-Mine Reveals Possible House Of Wolves Content

Digging deep into the game files of Bungie’s shared-world shooter following its most recent update, which launched earlier today, Reddit user “ShdwFlm” appears to have discovered nearly all of the upcoming content being added in Destiny’s upcoming House of Wolves DLC.

Spoiler alert, for those sensitive to it.

Officially, we know Expansion II will expand the game with “a wealth of weapons, armor, and gear to earn in new story missions, three new competitive multiplayer maps, and a new cooperative Strike,” according to the add-on’s official description. It will also introduce a new competitive elimination mode to the Crucible, including the 3v3 Trials of Osiris, as well as an all-new arena activity called The Prison of Elders.

Below are the notes ShdwFlm highlighted in his post which get a little more specific with the type of new content Guardians will have to look forward to on May 19:

  • “Two Social Spaces. The one in the Reef is now called Queen’s Bay where you “collect Reef bounties, forge new allegiances and test themselves in the Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris”. There’s also Halls of Amentet, a totally-new social space which seems to require experience in Trials of Osiris.”
  • “1 Strike. The new Nightfall / Heroic is The Shadow Thief which takes place on the Moon. You need to board the Ketch of notorious mercenary Taniks-Syn, and eliminiate him & his strike force.”
  • “3 Story Missions. Start searching on Earth, then travel to Venus.”
  • “3 Quests. These are usually what we get from a Vendor.”
  • “1 ‘Raid’, The Prison of Elders. Pits you against ‘the solar system’s deadliest enemies,’ meaning there could be a lot of enemy variation – presumably not just Fallen!”
  • “3 PVP Maps, but 5 mentioned. It’s doubtful that we’ll get to see Black Shield, but worth knowing we may visit one of Mars’ moons at some point. ‘MM TEST FACTORY’ sounds amusing!”
  • “(Not sure if the PVP Mode information is anything new or worthwhile; likely not.)”
  • “About 46 Ship Schematics were added, incl. an Exotic one Manus Celer Dei and 5 Red & Black ones.”
  • “Bungie keeps poking around the data for Treasure Maps, but all the data’s still broken”
  • “There’s some broken data about destination_faction_rasputin0 and “destination_crypto”

You can also read up on all of the activity descriptions by reading the full thread on Reddit.

It’s likely the data is fairly accurate, as it was just recently added to the game. But as with most leaked information, it’s still subject to change, so don’t take these findings and a promise from Bungie.

Look forward to more official details to be released throughout the coming weeks, including a look at how weapons and gear will be upgraded, a sneak peek at The Trials of Osiris, and a first look at The Prison of Elders.

Mortal Kombat X Micro-Transactions Let You Buy Easy Fatalities And Unlock The Full Krypt

Finally, the four year-long wait for the Mortal Kombat X title is over as the next installment in the long-running franchise is set to release in just a few more minutes.

As you engage in Mortal Kombat against numerous opponents from the different realms for the first time, it might surprise you to learn that the game will indeed include micro-transactions, a hot button topic in the gaming industry.

Though, before you pass judgement on NetherRealm’s decision involve real life money, it ultimately appears that all the micro-transactions within the game will have no direct affect on balance and will not turn MKX into pay-to-win sitation. As it turns out, the only items offered for real money are easy Fatality tokens which you can purchase in either $0.99 USD or $4.99 USD packs, giving you 5 and 30 easy fatality tokens, respectively. MKX also features the ability to unlock the whole Krypt for $19.99 USD.

Additionally, the Blue Steel skin for Sub-Zero is now available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace for $1.99 USD. For those who do purchase this skin, it should be noted that the proceeds will be going towards a good cause as it’ll be used to help fund Mortal Kombat X tournaments.

Mortal Kombat X will be released shortly for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Destiny’s House of Wolves DLC Will Not Have A New Raid, Says Bungie

You’re not alone if you found it odd that Destiny developer Bungie left out any mention of a new 6-player Raid activity in their Expansion II: House of Wolves DLC release date announcement earlier today.

According to Bungie’s Eric “Urk” Osborne, the lack of any news was intentional, as House of Wolves will, in fact, not introduce a new Raid to Destiny’s online world. Instead, players will be challenged by a new “three-player cooperative multiplayer arena” activity the studio is calling “The Prison of Elders”.

“House of Wolves will not have a Raid activity,” he explained in news update. “We didn’t make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year. House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill – a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders.”

The ‘Vault of Glass’ Raid that launched with Destiny and the ‘Crota’s End’ Raid that arrived with Expansion I: The Dark Below were both a big hit with fans looking for a challenging end-game adventure that rewarded its victors handsomely. The lack of a new Raid in House of Wolves will certainly leave a large hole to fill. It’s not yet clear what exactly The Prison of Elders will have to offer in terms of activities and loot, but all will be revealed in due time, says Osborne.

He went on to outline a handful of upcoming events in the following weeks that Guardians eager for more information will definitely want to take note of.

Wednesday, April 22nd – Walking tour of the The Reef, with a live discussion about the upgrade paths for your gear.

Wednesday, April 29th – Reveal and live gameplay of Trials of Osiris and its collection of end game gear.

Wednesday, May 6th – Reveal and live gameplay of Prison of Elders, a brand new three-player cooperative multiplayer arena.

You’ve seen the thousands of trailer analysis videos that popped up shortly after the official unveiling of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 earlier this week, but Sgt. Frank Woods voice actor James C. Burns has his own commentary to add as he shines some light on a few of things you may have missed the first time around.

He points out a couple of clues we skipped over in our own trailer analysis, including a particular sound played during the reveal of the roman numerals at the end of the teaser. We’re not quite sure what he’s hinting at just yet, but it might lead us to something.

New CTE Tweaks To Battlefield 4’s Weapons & Suppression System Get Demystified

If you’ve been following the latest happenings inside Battlefield 4‘s Community Test Environment, you’ll know that developer DICE LA has recently introduced some major tweaks to weapon balance and the way suppression works while in combat.

In order to accentuate the different roles certain weapon types play in the Battlefield 4 sandbox, DICE LA has made a few broad strokes to each weapon class, meaning the assault rifle you thought sucked a few months back might feel like a whole different beast following the new Spring Update.

The range at which you engage in combat has also been more clearly defined and is now a greater determining factor in the severity of weapon suppression. Refer to the graphic below:

To help demystify some of the new upgrades, we recommend checking out the latest video from Battlefield YouTuber XfactorGaming:

[youtube id=”wygECMl3t6E”]

As Xfactor explains, these changes aren’t quite ready for the retail version of the game, as DICE LA is still in need of feedback, which you can provide right here. If you’re a member of the CTE, you can have a look at the latest patch notes right here.

As soon as we catch word of a more specific Spring Update release date for all platforms, we’ll be sure to let you know.

What’s your take one the new tweaks explained thus far? Excited for Battlefield 4’s next big update?
