More Borderlands 2 DLC Character Classes To Be Added In The Near Future

Recently, the president of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford has confirmed that Borderlands 2 will indeed see more classes be added to it’s already versatile roster in the near future via DLC.

When asked on Twitter if Borderlands 2 would ever see any more character classes added in future DLC, Pitchfort responded, “yes – we’re working on it.”

This wonderful news stems from the recent success of Borderlands 2’s fifth playable class, the Mechromancer, which you can catch my review of right here. This confirmation also comes as a fulfillment of Pitchford’s earlier promise: If Gaige the Mechromancer performs and sells well with the Borderlands 2 community, Gearbox would love to add more character classes in the near future. Thankfully for everyone, she did.

Unfortunately for you vault hunters who have purchased the Borderlands 2 season pass, these character classes will not be included within, just like Gaige the Mechromancer. The season pass is set to only cover the campaign expansions, one of which we’ve already received – Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty. We’ve also recently discovered the next campaign expansion for Borderlands 2 will be called ‘Mr Torgue’s Campaign Of Carnage,’ which seems to center around the Torgue weapon manufacture that specializes in explosive weaponry.

With what seems to be an ever growing cast of character classes, what type of character class would you like to see be added to Borderlands 2? Use the comment section below to leave us your thoughts!

[Updated] Upcoming Battlefield 3 PC Game Client Update Will [Not] Allow Players To Disable Color Grading

Update

In a surprising turn of events regarding Battlefield 3 PC’s color grading controversy, it appears as though DICE may be sticking to their guns after all. In a follow-up post to the earlier statement below, this particular DICE employee clarified,

After discussing this further with my colleagues, we have decided to not implement this feature. This is the studio’s take on this matter, and I support this decision:

“As a studio, it is extremely important for us at DICE to have a unique identity in our games, not only from a gameplay perspective, but visually as well. While we appreciate that some players might want a slightly different look to the game, we are proud of the visual identity of Battlefield 3 and do not wish to change it.”

I apologize for getting anybody’s hopes up, and if you have any further questions on this subject, I will refer back to the above statement.

Keep in mind that this is perhaps why the initial statement was never officially announced by DICE.

Thanks, Samuel Thagesson.

Original Story

Could gamers currently enjoying Battlefield 3 on the PC finally be getting a chance to see the bright-side of life?

According to a recent post on the MordorHQ forums, DICE employee Mikael Kalms had this to say regarding the highly controversial topic of allowing gamers to tweak Battlefield 3’s color grading on the PC.

There will be a console command for disabling the color grading entirely in the game included with the next PC game client update.

We believe that turning it off gives no major competitive advantage/disadvantage. IRNV scope and a few others which turn the image into greyscale or greenscale don’t work properly without color grading and will look real ugly.

There will be no in-game UI for turning it on/off.

We are unlikely to handle support questions and bug reports regarding stuff that happens when color grading is disabled.

Though there has yet to be an official statement on the update, PC gamers have been requesting such a feature since Battlefield 3’s initial release. Some have even run into troubles with bans due to tampering with game files in an attempt to disable color grading. An earlier statement by DICE read:

To make sure that everyone on the Battlefield plays multiplayer on equal terms, we also want to make sure that the game files have not been compromised for any reason. For us, a changed game file indicates the user is trying to affect the game to get the upper hand in multiplayer, whether that’s by modifying the graphics or making the game otherwise behave in a manner that is not as designed. We will not differentiate between someone who has modified the game for reasons he thinks are benign and a player doing it to cause grief online.

Players tampering with the game files for any reason need to know that this is against DICE and EA policy and is grounds for banning. Everyone else just needs to know that we will always strive to create a fair online gaming environment.

However, it looks like things might change for the better with this upcoming PC game client update.

Let’s hear your hoorah’s for PC gaming in the comments below and hope to hear more details from DICE.

Thanks, Oldboy_GR, for the tip!

Chris Rorberts’ Star Citizen Kickstarter project has reached it’s goal of raising $500,000 in funds with still 25 days left to go!

Original Story

From the man who brought you classic space combat simulaors like Wing Commander, Strike Commander, Wing Commander: Privateer, Starlancer and Freelancer, Game Designer Chris Roberts unveils his latest multiplayer space epic powered by the CryEngine 3, Star Citizen.

“Star Citizen brings the visceral action of piloting interstellar craft through combat and exploration to a new generation of gamers at a level of fidelity never before seen,” as described on Roberts’ Kickstarter page.

A massive universe to explore

“At its core Star Citizen is a destination, not a one-off story. It’s a complete universe where any number of adventures can take place, allowing players to decide their own game experience. Pick up jobs as a smuggler, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, or enlist as a pilot, protecting the borders from outside threats. Chris Roberts has always wanted to create one cohesive universe that encompasses everything that made Wing Commander and Privateer / Freelancer special. A huge sandbox with a complex and deep lore allowing players to explore or play in whatever capacity they wish. That universe is Star Citizen.”

Judging by some of the footage, Star Citizen already looks well on its way to becoming a hotly anticipated reality. CODCasting – Activision Wants that YouTube/MLG Monay

There’s no doubt that CODcasting in Black Ops II is going to change the way people make Call of Duty videos on YouTube.  There’s also no doubt that CODcasting is Activision’s way of edging into the competitive gaming scene in a way they’ve never done before.  The question is, will CODcasting and it’s bundled ELITE/livestreaming services replace MLG for COD tournaments?

Part of what has made COD so popular is how entertaining it can be to watch.  As fun as Counter-Strike is to play, it’s boring to watch because of the lack of respawn and how camper-centric it can be (yes, people rush in CS, but it’s very hard to do well when moving in CS).  So why wouldn’t Activision want to cash in on the MLG/YouTube boom?  BO1 saw the first COD game to be integrated with YouTube and MW3 continued the trend.  BOII’s CODcasting is poised to replace the way people have been watching competitive COD. To me, it’s just a matter of time before we’re all watching ELITE competitions sponsored by Activision.  Considering how good an experience and presentation CODcasting is probably going to offer, I think people aren’t going to watch competitive COD any other way when it launches.

Part of what has held MLG back for COD is a lack of integration.  CODcasting has really opened the doors for a truly immersive and integrated spectating experience.  This year’s MLG circuit is going to be heavy on COD content and CODcasting is without a doubt going to make that content way more interesting.  But eventually, CODcasting will only be able to be broadcast via COD ELITE and MLG will probably get pushed out of the hustle.  What this means for us is that we’re probably going to have to pay for an ELITE Premium-type service (not all services included in BOII’s free ELITE service have been announced as of yet) to watch competitive COD gaming.  As much as I don’t like the way that sounds, I think it would actually make something like an ELITE Premium service worth the investment.

ELITE has lacked real exclusive content in my opinion and if I were more interested in MLG, chances are I’d be lining up to pay for ELITE Premium-type service, should it come to pass.  That said, it would really suck to see the MLG community pushed out of the COD scene.  A lot of great players and excellent YouTubers got their start with MLG and I worry that if Activision takes over the scene, the level of diversity we’ve gotten used to is going to thin out.

What are your thoughts?  Are you worried that MLG will struggle to compete with Activision?  Let us know in the comments.

Thank you for reading.

Favela Returns to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3, New MW3 24/7 Playlists Inbound

A recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 17 MB update on the PlayStation 3 has returned Favela to playlists.

A few weeks ago, you may remember rising complaints against the framing used on a particular portrait situated above a toilet in the bathroom of Favela. Claims against Infinity Ward were made accusing the positioning of this frame, displaying Arabic religious text, as offensive towards Muslims. You can read more about the controversy here.

Due to these reports, Favela was removed from Modern Warfare 2 playlists while Infinity Ward replaced the frame with what you see below:

So far, only the PS3 has received the update. Expect other platforms to receive it soon.

In other news, Infinity Ward asks for your vote for the next set of Modern Warfare 3 24/7 playlists. Check out their Facebook page here.

God of War: Ascension Beta This Winter For PS+, New Trailers and More

Santa Monica and Sony revealed today two brand new trailers for their upcoming, hack and slash epic, God of War: Ascension. Along side this, they have also detailed when players can expect the beta to drop and whats inside.

Zeus, the almighty God of Olympus will be the first of the four gods that players will be able to align with in the Beta. To get an early start, here’s the introduction video for the Zeus class.

[youtube id=”owyXzeUbpZo” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Since the multiplayer shown at E3 this past year, many new changes have been applied, and according to the PS blog, players can expect “all-new multiplayer action” that has yet to be shown off.

At the end of the trailer you’ll notice that it says the beta will be made available this Winter, “exclusively” to PS+ subscribers. There is one other way to get into the beta, which requires you to visit the official God of War Website. Titled, “The Rise of the Warrior,” this social experience will allow you to live the life of a warrior through a graphic novel. You’ll be given quests, which can help you earn 30-days of PS+ and a week early access to the Beta.

This isn’t the only reward detailed by the blog as from now until March 12 2013, players of this social game will be able to earn exclusive in-game items that include online weapons and armors.

Here’s another video to feast your eyes on as Santa Monica takes you behind the scene for their preparation of multiplayer.

[youtube id=”VsrZVrHNXMU” width=”600″ height=”350″]

If you can’t access the God of War web page, don’t fret as they are currently waiting for some DNS issues to be resolved.

What do you think about some of the new footage shown off? Will you be trying out the beta this Winter?

Borderlands 2 – Newly Discovered Viral Infection Deletes Save Files, Xbox Patch V1.0.2 Now Live

With the recent rise of modded characters and public modded saves in the world of Borderlands 2, it was only a matter of time before something dangerous would come of it. Unfortunately for all you vault hunters, that time is now.

As of recently, there has been numerous reports of a bug that’s capable of deleting your whole character. Yes, you read that right. Not only that, but it is able to reach all of your other character saves as well, thus rendering all of your time spent so far in the lovely world of Borderlands 2 meaningless.

This file corrupting infection known as ‘Graveyard.Sav‘ can only be spread by joining in a co-op game with a person who is currently playing with a modded character that has accidently turned on ‘Bad Ass Mode’ when modding their character. Thankfully, you can easily tell if a character has been modded if their current level is higher then the level cap of 50. This also applies to co-op games with a person who has recently been in a room with a modded character. In this way, they can unknowingly spread it to the rest of their co-op buddies who then themselves won’t know they’re infected until they witness the below symptoms.

You will know if you have been hit by this devastating bug when you are downed by any enemy, including bosses, and can’t respawn nor revive yourself when you hit ‘fight for your life’ mode. Doing so will cause you to either enter an unusual free camera roam while in ‘fight for your life’ mode or get booted from the game. You will then end up on the main menu as the bug overwrites your character save file with a file called ‘Graveyard.sav.

For now, it is advised that everyone just avoid the Co-Op portion of Borderlands 2 all together, including playing with your friends until Gearbox comes up with a fix for this issue, which they are aware of and are working on a fix at the moment. If you don’t already have one, it might be beneficial to purchase a flash drive to save all your Borderlands 2 character saves to in order to ensure you have a safe back-up if you are some how hit with this bug.

If you do happen to be infected by this bug, there is still some hope that you won’t lose your character entirely by following these simple steps:

  • Once you’ve been booted out to the main menu by this bug, hit ‘Continue.’
  • Load your game and then ‘save and quit.’

Note: Though the above is not a permanent fix, it doesn’t allow your file to be overwritten by the Graveyard.sav file. Also, this viral infection seems to predominantly happening on the PC and Xboc 360 platforms. So far, the PS3 has seen no reported cases of this virus spreading.

For more updates on this matter, make sure to check back with us often as we will keep you guys updated.

In other related Borderlands 2 news, Microsoft is finally finished with their certification process of Borderlands 2 patch V1.0.2 for the Xbox 360 and is now available for download the moment you boot up. You can read all of the patch notes here.

Have you been affected by this virus?

Battlefield 3: Aftermath Interview With DICE Producer Craig Mcleod

This late November and early December, military-shooter fans around the world will be treated to the latest digital expansion of the world of Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath will put you in the shoes of a soldier who must fight for survival in a war-torn, post-earthquake environment. Bloodied and bruised, you’ll have to make the most of what’s left in the wake of destruction by scavenging every corner of your surrounding area to find better gear, utilizing makeshift military vehicles damaged in the quake, and carefully traversing the warped and uneven environment. Judging by our earlier preview, Aftermath is set to provide fresh new experience on the Battlefield.

During EA’s Naughty or Nice event in New York City, I asked DICE producer Craig Mcleod about the inspiration behind Battlefield 3’s latest expansion.

MP1st: Aftermath takes place in a very specific setting – in the aftermath of an earthquake that has taken place in Tehran in the middle of a battle between American and Russian forces. How exactly will this setting that DICE has chosen for their latest DLC affect the gameplay?

Mcleod: So it affects [the gameplay] in a number of ways. First and foremost, it actually affects our characters, our vehicles and our weapons. A lot of the new stuff we’re bringing in is born out of this post-earthquake aftermath. So, what you’ll notice is that the characters are a bit more bloodied – they’re a bit more wounded. We’ve done a complete re-skin of this which is the first time we’ve ever done this for battlefield 3. On our vehicles – they’re all heavily modified. The reason for this is because they were caught in the earthquake as well. So, the military engineers have had to salvage what they can, build them back together, weld on some stuff, and also, in true Battlefield style, they’ve added some extra firepower at the same time. So the Phoenix and the Barsuk, which are the two new vehicles for each specific side, they both have have two gunner positions now. So, you have the heavy machine gun and the grenade launcher.

But, regarding the environments themselves, it’s very unique to start in such a war-torn environment theme. It really is a post-earthquake environment. There’s a lot of cracks in the roads, places for you to hide, it creates a lot of elevation [thanks to] toppled buildings, which isn’t always present in the older maps.

MP1st: DICE is introducing a brand new and very interesting weapon to the Battlefield – the Crossbow. Tell us more about it!

Mcleod: The Crossbow’s our new weapon and it’s unique in two very specific ways. The first one is it’s not acting as a primary weapon. It’s acting as a gadget. So, this means no matter what class you want to play as, or what your play style is, you can use the Crossbow. There’s two versions of it. One is a red-dot sight and the other one is an 8X rifle scope. So, if you like to get up close and personal, you can do that. If you want to keep your distance, you can do that too. The other great thing is it has such a variety of gameplay. This comes in the form of the four bolts that you can equip it with. So we have a standard bolt – it’s very much your bread and butter. It’s mid range, it’s mid-damage. You also have a scan-bolt which you can fire to a certain location and it acts as a proximity detector to show up enemies. You have a high-explosive bolt which is great for vehicles and you also have the balanced-bolt, which is good for those long range shots.

MP1st: Scavenger brings a new twist to Conquest Domination. Where did the inspiration for this new game mode come from?

Mcleod: So, Scavenger is born out of the post-earthquake theme. You’ve been trapped. You got caught in in this environment. You have to find whatever you can to survive. You’re almost left with nothing. So, as you start with Scavenger, you start with one pistol, one grenade and one specialization, so the class here doesn’t matter. And then, as you go along, you need to explore the map to its fullest to actually pick up or scavenge weapons. You’ll find that there’s three different levels of weapons. Your less effective SMG’s, which are a bit weaker, you’ll find in safer areas, maybe around the outside of the map or in enclosed areas. To get the real heavy weapons like the assault rifles and carbines, you need to go into the most dangerous areas. You’ll need to go around the flags or into open, level places and this really creates a risk-vs-reward gameplay.

MP1st: What type of assignments can players look forward in this DLC?

We do have 10 new assignments which are coming in. Five are specifically tied to the crossbow itself – to actually unlocking the crossbow for your use – and then four for the individual bolts. Some are tied to the vehicles as well.

MP1st: What was your goal with Aftermath? Did you purposely want to bring in elements from the single player campaign into the multiplayer?

Mcleod: So, we had two main trains of thought with this. The first one is to do with the actual size of the maps that you play on, the environment and the type of infantry-vs-vehicle gameplay. Close Quarters was very infantry-focused, Armored Kill was very vehicle-focused and we really wanted to mix it up. The other thing that we wanted to do is that we did want to tie it back to the single player campaign. We wanted our player who played the single player campaign – who got caught up in the emotion of the Tehran earthquake – to be able to really take that story further.

PlayStation 3 Battlefield 3 Premium members can look forward to Aftermath November 27th while Xbox 360 and PC Battlefield 3 Premium and non-Premium members can expect it shortly after in the month of December.

What do you think about the setting that Aftermath takes place in? Do you prefer this theme-based approach to Battlefield 3 DLC? Let’s hear your thoughts below!

Black Ops 2: The Ghost Perk Done Right

Before reading or watching, you may like to know the latest on the Black Ops 2 version of the Ghost Perk which you can learn all about right here.

[youtube id=”TciB8MoOieE” width=”600″ height=”350″]

There’s no debating that the Ghost perk in Black Ops 1 was a huge point of controversy for the title.  Some people argued that because of things like the Blackbird and how easy it was to do well in BO1, that Ghost wasn’t that big of a deal.  Other people argued that Ghost made the game play incredibly slow and enabled campers like no Call of Duty has ever enabled them before.

I felt that reality was somewhere in between the two.  The Blackbird made BO1 a fast-paced, gun-on-gun killfest, but until you called one in, every match was a drawn-out campfest.

The solution most people supplied for the imbalances presented by Ghost were typically either include Stopping Power in the same tier as Ghost or make it so Ghost users appeared every 3rd sweep of a UAV.

In my opinion, however, the upcoming Black Ops II has hit the stealth perk dead center.

No perk should reward a player 100% of the time, especially if that perk affects the enemy team.  BOII’s Ghost perk only protects players from enemy UAVs when the player is on the move, planting/defusing a bomb, or controlling scorestreaks.  To me, that is perfectly balanced.  Now Ghost only rewards players that stay on the move (which you can’t do 100% of the time) or play the objective.  Side note: Ghost working while standing on a Domination flag is pointless because if you’re close enough to capture a flag, 9 out of 10 times the enemy can see you, in addition to getting a warning that the flag is being captured.

Playing the objective in COD has always been risky behavior.  BOII’s Ghost is going to make it easier for players to minimize the risk that comes with playing the objective.  This, in combination with it not working when stationary and objective points being worth more than kills, is going to get players moving and playing the objective.  Of course there are always going to be campers, but at least now they won’t have the luxury of being invisible.

Why Stopping Power isn’t a balanced counter to Ghost

Stopping Power, like Ghost, rewarded players 100% of the time by making every bullet they fired a little more deadly.  Not running it put you at an immediate disadvantage to anyone that was.  That’s the baseline definition of imbalanced.   Stopping Power was just as imbalanced as Ghost.  Perks shouldn’t require other perks that act as counters to create balance.  All the perks should be balanced within themselves in addition to remaining balanced when combined with other perks.

What are your thoughts?  Are you worried that the seemingly endless possibilites of the Pick 10 Create-A-Class system are going to be too easily manipulated to combine perks in ways that will cause imbalances?  Do you think Treyarch is taking the balance of the perks in the right direction?  Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Thank you for reading.
