SOE Live – PlanetSide 2 Gets A Launch Date, New SOE Announcements

SOE Live was held yesterday, where President of SOE John Smeadley shared several major announcements including the long awaited release date for PlanetSide 2.

The first announcement is that PlanetSide 2 will be launching officially on November 20th. The free-to-play first person shooter has been under Beta testing for quiet some time now and with just about a month away, fans have reached out to Smeadley saying it’s too soon and needs more polishing. Rest assured, on his Twitter feed, he confirmed that the team knows exactly what needs to be done in preparation before launch and that they have enough time to get enough fan feedback into the final release build.

Where Are the WWII Shooters?

The reason modern and future shooters are selling so well right now is because most of the people that buy FPS games these days are roughly 20, or so it appears.  A generation of gamers have come of age since Call of Duty 1 and because of that, gamers these days have a hard time relating to the past.  Today’s culture is all about what’s new, what’s coming.  The history channel rarely runs history content.  Most of what’s floating around the internet is future-shooter hype.  And overall, everyone seems to have forgotten the foundation for modern gaming.

That’s not entirely bad, but I do miss capping Nazis in the dome in World at War, a lot.

Recently, DICE started their celebration of the Battlefield franchise’s 10th birthday.  A lot of what they talked about and considered was a potential return to the WWII era, and I’m all for it.

As much as I love Gunships and Predator Missles, I miss mowing down enemies with the Browning .30 Cal LMG and sniping with a bolt action, iron-sights-only, rifle.  Believe me, there’s nothing like being in an Attack Helicopter and pounding tanks into bits of digital dust, but that’s every FPS game these days.

Part of what made the COD4/WaW period of COD’s history so interesting was the diversity we had access to.  Yes, Black Ops 1 was set in the Vietnam War era, but it was still trying to be modern.

My feeling is that FPS gaming is starting to get a little bland.  Not bad or entirely boring, just that it lacks diversity and has me less engaged and interested than I used to be.

What are your thoughts?  Do you miss the nostalgia of bayoneting people with the M1 Garand?  Do you think a lack of setting diversity is hurting the FPS gaming scene?  Let us know in the comments.

Thank you for reading.

Guild Wars 2 Devs Looking Into WvW Issues, Botting and Much More, According to Recent Reddit AMA

ArenaNet discusses discusses Guild Wars 2 technical issues on Reddit.

In arecent AMA (Ask Me Anything), 24 AreneNet employees acknowledged many of the technical limitations Guild Wars 2 currently faces. While not officially announcing anything officially, at least we know that he programmers are aware of this issues and are looking into ways to solve them.

One of these technical issues is the overly aggressive culling that goes on in big World vs World battles. It basically means that there are too many players in the same area and the game client can’t keep up with the numbers. This can make some players not appear at all. The hard part is fixing this without making players on slower connections to laggy, or grinding computers with limited processing power to a halt. Other problems they’re looking to solve are the occasional missing Skill Point Challenges and the absence of a Field of View slider.

Another cause for concern is botting. Bots ruin immersion and can completely destroy the in-game economy. Bots are currently getting banned in waves, so if you don’t see an immediate effect after reporting them, that’s normal. With “great progress in detection and prevention in the pipeline,” there should be a noticeable decrease in botting over the next few weeks, according to an employee.

Additionally, they’re not just working on fixing bugs, but also on adding new features. Multiple trait sets and viewing online character info (like World of Warcraft’s Armory) are on the “cool to do” list. There is also some bad news: Currently, there are no plans for a native Linux client, even though the existence of a Mac Client would make it considerably easier to do. Luckily it should run reasonably well on Wine, according to one of the employees.

What do you think about the current state of the game and the focus of the developers? Are there other things you’d like to see fixed or added to the game?

This AMA was mainly focused on the technical side of things. For a recent overview of the current state and future of PvP and eSports in Guild Wars 2, click here. Interested in this game, but not really sure if it’s worth picking up? Check out our in-depth review!

[Updated] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Will Have Weapon Prestiges

Treyarch senior game design director David Vonderhaar reveals a couple multiplayer tidbits in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Tweeting at our friend, PrestigeIsKey, Vonderhaar asked, “Did you know that you can Prestige any gun two times?”

He was later asked, “if weapon XP converts to next prestige, will you have to prestige your weapon or will it go back down to 0 or stay at max?” Vonderhaar answered, “Stays where we it was. Weapon level and weapon prestige level totally independent of your level. Not reset by level prestige.”

As you know, weapon levelling was introduced by last year’s Modern Warfare 3. Treyarch seems to be taking things one step forward this year by introducing weapon Prestiges in Black Ops 2.

On Twitter, Vonderhaar was also asked, “Can you guys please turn off the ghost ‘movement’ perk on S&D to help the ninja defuse community?” to which he simply replied, “Yes.” Of course, this is most likely only possible in private matches.

Black Ops 2’s Ghost perk and its description

Once again, it looks as though Treyarch is doing everything in their power to give as many options to the players as possible, opening up Black Ops 2’s gameplay to a wide audience and allowing them to play it the way they want to.

Clarification

When answering the questioner, Vonderhaar most likely meant that the Ghost perk does make you invisible when planting, not that there is an option to turn it on or off.

Let us know below, are you excited for weapon Prestiges?

If you missed it, be sure to check out the official Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 launch trailer!

Thanks, Neee MO.

Halo 4 – Haven Walkthrough, Metldown and Mantis Breakdown and Campaign Skulls Revealed

More Halo 4 multiplayer map walkthroughs are inbound. Plus, 343 Industries give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the vehicle-friendly Meltdown map, and the sinister new Mantis vehicle. Lastly, we got a bag of skulls. Halo 4 campaign skulls, that is!

Haven

Enjoy yet another Halo 4 multiplayer map walkthrough. Haven was one of the earlier maps revealed by 343 Industries, of which you may have already seen some footage. This time, however, you can get the inside perspective of lead multiplayer level desinger on Halo 4, Kynan Pearson.

[youtube id=”Y_bEU4–dSM” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Thanks, IGN.

Meltdown

The official Halo Bulletin delves deeper in to the recently revealed Meltdown multiplayer map.

The icy caves of Meltdown

“While most Forerunner technology appears to support safe usage over immense passages of time, the failure of specific systems can cause a cascading effect which dramatically impacts a site’s foundational composition. This frigid moon’s icy conditions once served to control a Forerunner reactor’s intense heat, but those days are now long gone,” reads 343’s description.

343 mentions that they eventually landed on a figure eight-style layout which should hopefully cater to both infantry and light vehicle combat. While the open, figure eight-shaped road lends to vehicle combat, infantry will find plenty of room to maneuver in the various caves and pathways.

Meltdown with its figure eight design

Being a large, vehicle-heavy map, expect games to start off with a bang as both teams spawn near both the Railgun and an Incineration Cannon. No Banshee spawns in this particular map by default, so players can expect a heavy focus on ground-vehicle combat. Infinity will keep infantry well-equipped with ordinance like the Scattershot, Sniper Rifle, SAW, Rocket Launcher, and Fuel Rod Cannon. You can also look forward to playing around with the Mantis on this particular map.

With bases built into the outer walls, Meltdown will play really well in the Dominion game mode. Teams will spawn in either the Alpha or Charlie bases before proceeding to battle it out for the central base. This is in contrast to Longbow, which has both teams attacking all three bases at the start of a match.

Mantis

Speaking of the Mantis, systems designer Ali Zandi shares some of the development process behind its inception.

Inspiration for the Mantis vehicle

The above image was one of the few sketches that served as the Mantis’ inspiration for the development team, according to Zandi.

Inspired by Halo Legends, the Mantis started out as an armored exoskeleton that Spartans would equip, augmenting their abilities. It had numerous weapons, roles, mechanics and shapes, and featured a dedicated shield. It also had the ability to jetpack, use thrusters, and fire a Railgun. We even had an early prototype that consisted of the Chief riding in a giant scaled-up Chief. The idea then evolved into an actual mechanized vehicle, which was more epic in scale and fit the UNSC better.

In-game, the Mantis will serve as the more agile version of the Scorpion tank, sacrificing firepower for maneuverability. Like the Scorpion, it can be boarded by enemies (especially vulnerable immediately after its stomp attack) or EMPed with a Plasma Pistol charge. Recalling the first trailer that introduced this bad boy, you may have felt concerned due to its immense fire power. On top of some of the weaknesses described above, Zandi explains how its effectiveness has been properly balanced:

The chain gun is effective up close, but has significant projectile spread and heat when laying on the trigger for long periods of time (once the chain gun overheats, it goes into a cool down sequence for a few seconds, disallowing the weapon to fire during that period). The rocket pod delivers massive direct impact damage, as well as moderate amounts of splash damage to infantry and armor. It has two firing modes, one being semi-automatic, and the second being a full volley of however many rockets are loaded in the pod. A total number of five rockets can be queued up by holding the weapon’s trigger down, or fired individually by latching the trigger. Once all five rockets are depleted, the Mantis initiates a reload sequence, replenishing the rockets after a few seconds.

Are you excited to try out Halo’s newest addition to the already wide assortment of vehicles?

The Mantis in-game

Skulls

Though this is more of a campaign item, what would a Halo game be without its Skulls?

Halo 4 Skulls

Check out the list of skulls available in the Halo 4 campaign right from the get-go. For those treasure hunters out there, 343 writes, “if you’re the type that leaves no stone unturned in your quest for hidden secrets, fret not, because the Domain Terminals will scratch that itch… and more.”

Famine – Weapons drop much less ammo.
Tilt – Enemy resistances and weaknesses are increased.
Mythic – Enemies have increased health.
Catch – Enemies are grenade happy!
Black Eye – Shields don’t recharge unless you melee enemies.
Tough Luck – Enemies always go berserk, always dive out of the way, and never flee.
Iron – Co-op: Back to previous checkpoint on death. Solo: Restart mission on death.
Thunderstorm – Major upgrade to the capabilities of enemies.
Cloud – Motion sensor is disabled.
Cowbell – Acceleration from explosions is increased.
IWHBYD – Rare combat dialogue becomes more common.
Grunt Birthday Party – Headshot a Grunt, HAPPY BOOM TIME!
Blind – The HUD and the first person arms and weapon are hidden.

That wraps up this Halo 4 round-up. Any particular multiplayer maps that have caught your eye so far? Let us know in the comments below!

Additionally, upon updating Borderlands 2 to the most recent patch update, something very interesting seems to pop up that certainly hints at a incoming second DLC for Borderlands 2.

DICE Shakes Up Battlefield 3 Multiplayer With Aftermath – BF3: Aftermath DLC Preview

Set in the shattered districts, streets and villages of a post-earthquake Iran, Battlefield 3 Aftermath depicts a continuing struggle for supremacy and survival amongst the devastation. With operational capacity severely compromised, players will fight through the dust and rubble in a vertical and horizontal urban combat setting.

This December, Battlefield 3 fans will be treated to something a little different. Aftermath, the fourth multiplayer expansion to hit DICE’s star military-shooter, will expand upon the world of Battlefield with new locales, new vehicles, a new game mode and a intriguing new weapon. More importantly, expect a some thematic elements in your multiplayer as events in the single player will directly affect your gameplay experience.

[youtube id=”PcO5ajxGenc” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Those who thoroughly enjoyed the unique flavor that the Vietnam expansion brought to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 might get a good kick out of Aftermath. Unlike previous Battlefield 3 expansions, Aftermath is the first to really utilize the setting in which it takes place. Sure, it’s set in the aftermath of a post-earthquake-struck Iran, something we’ve already seen in the single player campaign and some multiplayer levels, but the flavor and story runs consistently throughout every aspect of this particular expansion.

Character skins have been altered to convey the hardships these soldiers have had to endure during the earthquake, the same earthquake that nearly killed Sgt. Blackburn in the single player campaign. Both the American and Russian soldiers now look bloodied and bruised, as if they’ve just survived some rough tumbles and falling debris. Though the earthquake has passed, tremors rumble throughout the course of a match which can have devastating effects if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. Civilian and transport vehicles have been retrofitted with military equipment as soldiers make the most with what they’re left with. Lastly, the new game mode, Scavenger, directly ties in to the story being told here in Aftermath, but more on that later.

American soldiers bloodied and bruised after having survived the earthquake.

Aftermath, like previous expansions, will introduce four brand new maps to the mix, two of which have been revealed thus far; Epicenter and Markaz Monolith. Speaking to DICE Producer Craig Mcleod, I was informed that fans can expect similar map sizes to the ones included in the Back to Karkand expansion with a good mix of vehicle and infantry combat. Unlike Close Quarters or Armored Kill, you won’t find any extremes here, and as mentioned above, these four maps will be heavily shaped by the destruction that took place only moments before. That means you can expect both natural and unnatural cover thanks to the uneven and jagged terrain, as well as a lot of vertical gameplay and a number of hidden pathways that can be used to flank the enemy. Both military and civilian transport vehicles will play a large role, though they have been modified and tweaked by surviving soldiers to suit the more urban environments. Three new vehicles, in particular, are being introduced with Aftermath; the Phoenix, Barsuk and Rhino.

The particular map I had the fortunate chance to enjoy, Epicenter, reminded me of a ravaged and war-torn mix of Strike at Karkand and Grand Bazaar. Fallen debris provided all sorts of different routes, man-made or not, to the objective, but still provided plenty of room to grab a modified Vodnik with multiple gunner positions to patrol the streets in. What was particularly interesting to me was that hidden passage ways could be discovered by blowing up certain barriers with either explosives or conveniently placed gas canisters. These could then be used to flank the enemy or as a quick escape, should you find yourself cornered. As mentioned earlier, tremors literally shake the battlefield at random moments throughout a match. These tremors cause falling debris in certain areas, so if you’re not situated correctly, your looking a major headache, literally. All Aftermath maps will support vanilla Battlefield 3 game modes like Conquest and Rush – even the popular Gun Master mode from Close Quarters – as well as the newly introduced Scavenger mode.

An aerial view of Epicenter, one of the four new maps included in Aftermath.

Scavenger is a heavily-themed new game mode that revolves around the story that Aftermath tells. As a soldier that has just survived a devastating earthquake in the middle of a heated battle, you’re left with nothing but your pistol and a limited amount ammo. However, just because an earthquake may have knocked you and a number of other soldiers off their feet, it doesn’t mean all those weapons have disappeared. They simply need to be found again.

Scavenger has players searching for their weapons.

Upon starting up a match, you’ll only have your choice of class (which, in this case, only dictates your skin or look) and your choice of sidearm and specialization along with one grenade. On top of your assigned task of capturing three objective points (exactly similar to Conquest Domination introduced in Close Quarters), you’ll need to search every corner of the area to find yourself some better gear. Scattered among the battlefield are three different tiers of randomized weapons. Tier one includes your basic SMG’s or PDW’s while tier two sports your more powerful shotguns and sniper rifles. Lastly, the third tier grants you your more effective LMG’s and assault rifles. However, don’t get too comfortable with your M16A3, should you find one. Chances are, you may blow through one or two mags before you’ll need to find some more firepower. This provides an interesting, non-class-based twist on your action-packed Conquest Domination (similar map sizes can be expected) and adds a whole new layer of gameplay.

However, a new setting, new maps, new vehicles and new character skins are not all Aftermath has to offer. Get a load of the brand new Crossbow!

The brand new Crossbow equipped with a red-dot sight.

This unique, makeshift crossbow (a heavily-modified assault rifle, in actuality) takes up a spot in your equipment slot and doesn’t replace your primary or secondary weapon slots. While it is just one weapon, it includes two variations and sports four different ways to kill. Yes, you’ll have four different bolt-types to choose from when wielding this bad boy, as well as two different sights: the red-dot or 8X rifle scope. Your bolts include the standard tip (mid-range, mid-damage ), the scan bolt tip (proximity detector), the high-explosive bolt tip (great for vehicles) and the balanced bolt tip (long-range). The best part about this particular weapon is that you’ll be able to bring it back into regular or other expansion playlists and maps, as with previous DLC weapons.

Like previous expansions, brand new assignments and achievements will be up for grabs when Aftermath drops. These range from assignments dealing with some of the new vehicles, to those specifically aimed at accomplishing feats with the new Crossbow weapon.

In all, Aftermath is sure to shake up the Battlefield multiplayer experience this December with some new and exciting gameplay mechanics on top of all the goodies we’ve come to expect from our lovingly crafted and content-rich Battlefield 3 expansions. Look forward to more on Aftermath, including an interview with DICE producer Craig Mcloed, as we approach the coming months right here on MP1st!

Update

DICE has listed Battlefield 3: Aftermath for a November 27 release for PlayStation Premium members, most likely meaning a December 4 release for Xbox 360 and PC Premium members, a December 11 release for non-Premium PS3 users and a December 18 for non-Premium Xbox 360 and PC users. Aftermath is included in all Premium memberships but can be purchased individually for $14.99 USD or 1200 MS points.

You can keep track of the latest on Battlefield 3 by following us on Twitter or ‘liking’ us on Facebook.

What about Battlefield 3: Aftermath are you looking forward to the most; new maps, new vehicles, new character skins, the new game mode Scavenger, or the new Crossbow weapon? Let us know in the comments below!

Borderlands 2 – Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty DLC Review

Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty is the first DLC that expands on the already vast and long campaign of Borderlands 2. It brings with it its fair share of fresh air into the game as well as adds various new items and currency to an already very in-depth system, despite a few shortcomings with regards to its quests.

Upon starting up this newly released DLC, you are greeted as soon as you make your way into the town of Oasis via fast traveling by yet another fairy tail from our favorite Pandorian arms dealer, Marcus. He tells us about a marvelous buried treasure that was left behind by a fearsome pirate of the name Captain Blade.

This expansion to the Borderlands 2 experience is everything you expect it to be. It adds even more quirky and memorable characters to the mix that are sure to make you laugh during your interactions with them. However, none of them shine more brightly than Captain Scarlett, a pirate who’s seen numerous battles in her time and has the scars to prove it. She also has a knack of betraying her fellow pirates once she’s done with them and has taken what ever she needs from them. She also tends to come up with random, awkward ECHO conversations with you regarding what she wants to do or how she’s trying her best to express her hand gestures to you without getting frustrated.

In addition to Captain Scarlett, her good ol’ pirate ‘admirer’ Herbert is a disturbing yet hilarious character as he’s constantly recording everything Captain Scarlett does via his ECHO device. His weirdness continues thanks to a shack of his devoted entirely to Captain Scarlett, acting as a shrine to his obsession with her.

Although this new DLC is mainly set on in vast desert area, the devs over at Gearbox Software did an amazing job in regards to detail. Taking the new Skidriff vehicle for a spin, you’ll see that every inch provides a breathtaking view. The new Skidriff, by the way, is a simple hover-boat vehicle that’s capable of only carrying two players at once and features a machine gun, explosive harpoon, saw blades and rockets. Luckily, it can even be used in the areas of the original Borderlands 2 game.

By far, the most visually outstanding area that this DLC contains is the underground area of Hayters Falley, an underground oasis booming with vibrant colors and water – something very rare in the world of Pandora. It can easily be considered the most beautiful area in the whole game. You can tell the artists spent a lot of time carefully planning this area – time that’s definitely paid off.

Oasis – The first town you set foot on in this DLC.

Sadly, even with all the amazing new characters and locales, the quests featured in Captain Scarlett And Her Pirate’s booty feel very bland, aside from the ones that are given out by Censor Bot. He is a NPC who’s sole mission is to censor everything that’s wrong in Pandora by silencing the problem for good, like putting a P3rv-3 bot out of commission for gathering nude magazines and spreading them around Pandora. This can make up for some of the more boring side-quests, which tend to be a just “go-to-this-area-and-pick-up-these-parts,” or “go-to-that-area-and -slay-a-certain-someone” type of quest.

Even more so, the main story quests of Captain Scarlett’s And Her Pirate’s Booty seem to be plagued by very bland and boring sequences. Again, they seem to be made up of the same stuff from the side-quests over and over again which is a big issue seeing how the main story quest can easily just take you up to three or four hours to complete.

Speaking of side quests, the new raid bosses (Hyperious the Invincible and Master Gee the Invincible) that are featured in this DLC which can only be fought by completing the main story quest more then make up for the lack of fun side-quests. These new bosses require a lot more wit then brawn, seeing how you must actually come up with a strategy with your fellow co-op members to beat them and require constant communication in-order to triumph over these end-game bosses. They will literally leave you broken and pulling your hair as you try to grasp perfect combat strategy. They easily make the original raid bosses look like child’s play. Thankfully, they provide what the original end game bosses were missing since they were easily beatable if you had the right gear equipped, even a solo situation or in True Vault Hunter Mode.

Though these bosses require some real teamwork to be defeated, they seem to offer little to no valuable loot which can make them seem un-worthy of the headaches and moaning they will surely cause when it’s all said and done. That’s unfortunate because this game heavily revolves around getting the best loot from the biggest and baddest bosses on Pandora. It can make anyone feel like they haven’t really accomplished anything when the only thing they see of value are the new Seraph crystals which give you the ability to buy Seraph rarity equipment from the black market located in the town of Oasis.

Even then, purchasing these weapons doesn’t seem worth it, as they’re not a whole lot better then the orange rarity loot found in the original Borderlands 2. What’s more frustrating is that it takes up to 120 Seraph crystals to purchase these weapons while these raid bosses only drop anywhere from seven to ten crystals at a time. This can be extremely time-consuming considering these new raid bosses can only be defeated once per day. It can make for a very long and boring grind.

Overall, Captain Scarlett And Her Pirate’s Booty gets a solid 4 out of 5 stars from me but is only a must if you crave that extra content. Though there’s more good than bad here, this DLC doesn’t really add any must-have gear for your character. If you’re looking for a challenge in the gameplay, however, this expansion does a great job at testing your wits and skills throughout the whole way. It can turn out to be fun and challenging adventure with but a hint frustration if you aren’t patient enough to re-think your strategy in some parts and soak in what Gearbox has created with this DLC.

Black Ops 2, Do We Know Too Much?

There’s a certain air of mystery that descends on the gaming community this time of year.  Everyone has their fingers crossed that the new edition of their favorite game will live up to their expectations and a flood of rumors and speculations generally hits us like a sack of bricks in the face.  But this year, something feels off.

Thinking back to when Modern Warfare 3 was about to be released, the only footage I remember seeing of it came from Call of Duty XP.  This year, everyone’s uploading Black Ops II gameplay (including us), and it’s only October. On top of that, we were even treated to a launch trailer one whole month early.

COD is most fun when you get it for the first time and sit down to play and starting figuring out what perks or weapons suit you, what killstreaks work the best, what maps are the most fun, etc.  But BOII’s air of mystery seems to be more of a fog of information.

What worries me is that when I get BOII 11/13, I’m going to know what my loadouts should be to suit my playstyle, I’ll have a pretty good idea of where to be for easy kills on whatever maps they show pre-launch, and I’ll know which killstreaks are going to get me the most kills.  In other words, the fun of learning won’t be as fun or last as long as it has in the past.

This is the kind of logic that I use when it comes to open betas.  Yeah, it’s nice to know what I’m going to get when I buy the full game, but if we all know the full game is going to be good and can be tweaked if its not, what’s the point of a beta?

That said, I played the hell out of the BF3 beta and still enjoyed ranking up and trying new guns out, but that’s mainly because DICE actually put new guns in the game as DLC.

Don’t get me wrong, I think betas really help developers get the feedback they need to make the best games possible, but if they’re going to release it a month away from the full game’s release, do they really have time to change things around enough?

What are your thoughts?  Do you think getting just a taste of upcoming games makes playing them more fun?  Does not knowing what exactly you’re paying for dissuade you from buying new games at launch?  Let us know in the comments!

Thank you for reading.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Likely to be GameStop’s “Biggest Game Launch of All Time”

The Call of Duty franchise is well on its way to breaking records yet again this fall.

According to GameStop president Tony Bartel, “consumer anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops II is tremendous. We are seeing the highest pre-orders in history. With its current pace, this Call of Duty is on track to break records and is likely to be our biggest game launch of all time.”

We asked the question, ‘could Black Ops II be the best Call of Duty yet?’ earlier in our hands-on multiplayer preview. Unsurprisingly, day-one pre-orders for Black Ops II were three times higher than that of the original, according to Amazon, while hype rose up to 400% after Black Ops II’s initial reveal.

Only a few days ago, Activision and Treyarch announced a Call of Duty: Black Ops II Season Pass, along with Elite becoming a free service. Those who pre-order the game will receive the free, re-imagined classic multiplayer map, Nuketown 2025.

Is there no end in sight for Call of Duties record breaking numbers? Do you have your pre-order secure? Are you pre-purchasing the Black Ops II Season Pass or waiting it out? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Swedish SOG Available to All Battlefield 3 Players Day One

Battlefield 3 vets can look forward to some extra gear and and unlocks when they boot up Medal of Honor: Warfighter this October 23rd.

The Swedish SOG with a customized MP7

Creative Director Christopher “Hoffe” Bergqvist writes on the Battlelog,

After making the decision to make Medal of Honor Warfighter about international warfighters, it didn’t take long before we started talking about introducing the Swedish SOG, or rather SSG and SIG as they were known back then.

There were many reasons for this. The SOG are true Tier 1 and up there with the best in terms of both training and equipment. We also traditionally have a lot of Medal of Honor players in Sweden, and we do feel a strong connection with close to a dozen Swedes on the team (myself included) and a huge Battlefield and DICE fan base within the studio.

Releasing the SOG Spec Op soldier early to Battlefield players is our way of giving some love to the faithful shooter fans who are about to experience a new title on the Frostbite 2 engine.

If you’ve played the recent,Medal of Honor: Warfighter Beta on the Xbox 360, you may remember the Spec Ops class as the Canadian JTF-2 Operator with his fast movement and special “Spec Ops Vision.”

The Swedish SOG takes point in this CQB situation

Battlefield 3 vets can also look forward to unlocking the Mk18 carbine from Daniel Defense along with the Swedish SOG Spec Ops class. Bergqvist writes that “It also includes a whole bunch of unique Mk18 SOG parts for you to explore in the weapon customization system, as well as a night version of the iconic M90 splinter camouflage. This camo is not exclusive to the Mk18, and can be used on all weapons in Warfighter!”

How many of you Battlefield 3 vets will be giving Medal of Honor: Warfighter a shot this October 23rd?

DayZ Standalone – First In-Game Screens

Check out the very first in-game screens of the standalone version of this hit Arma 2 zombie mod, DayZ.

Creator Dean Hall writes on the DayZ Dev Blog, “Please note these are work-in-progress shots, with only basic texture work and initial lighting passes. I picked a random town in the game and took screenshots of a few of the houses. The screenshots are taken on “Normal” graphic settings (medium texture resolution) and are unaltered and uncropped.”

He also mentions that the team has spent some time making sure that both the exterior and interior of each bulding “both look correct and work properly.”

“The village I used to take the screenshot in now has all its buildings enterable, including the sheds,” he continues. “Most focus has so far been on the buildings that are situated outside of the center, but focus now is turning to doing interiors for the city buildings. This is complicated by our desire to dramatically increase performance, and given the scene complexity inside cities we need to balance this with the desire to increase building scavenging opportunities inside the cities.”

Check out the screens below and look forward to more in the coming weeks! Don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments.
