Borderlands 2 Mechromancer Introduction And Possible Incoming Level Cap Raise

Update

According to a member of Gearbox’s Public Relations & Marketing team, there will not be a level cap increase in the upcoming campaign DLC. He writes on the official Gearbox forums, “No. Just using our tools to record footage and change our character on the fly.”

Thanks, IcyGuy.

Original Story

Hot off the press from the good folks over at Gearbox Software is Gaige the Mechromancer’s official introduction video to the Borderlands 2 series. This brand spanking new character is also introduced by none other then the most sophisticated fellow found on the dangerous planet of Pandora, Sir Hammerlock:

[youtube id=”Av_D14XEUqM” width=”600″ height=”350″]

This action packed trailer gives us a glimpse of what Gaige the Mechromancer and her robot buddy Death-Trap are capable of in action, as well goes into the details of some of her unique skill trees. To learn even more about her, make sure to check out my DLC review right here! Even though Gaige the Mechromancer has been out for nearly a week, this video does contain a new piece of information that Gearbox has been very quiet about.

It seems as though there might be a possible level cap raise along with the upcoming DLC for Borderlands 2 titled ‘Captain Scarlett and her pirate’s booty‘, the first of four campaign expansions. While watching Gaige’s introduction video and upon pausing it at the 0:31 mark, you will notice that Gaige has 52 unused skill points. However, the current max skill points you can have is currently 46 after reaching the level cap of 50 and going to the New-U station to re-spec your character. This may mean that Captain Scarlett’s DLC may be raising the level cap up to 56.

If this is true, what do you think about Gearbox raising the level cap so quickly? Leave your thoughts on the comment section below.

Interview – Danger Close Wraps-Up Medal of Honor: Warfighter Beta and Prepares for Deployment

With the Medal of Honor: Warfighter Xbox 360 beta all under wraps, Danger Close studios is now only a week and a few days away from sharing their Frostbite 2-powered sequel to 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot with the rest of the world.

So, exactly what kind of feedback was received from the beta, how will these changes make it into the final build and what’s the game plan over at Danger Close with that deadline approaching fast?

We sit down with EA Global Product Manager Kevin O’Leary who’s been working with the Danger Close team to answer all these questions and more.

MP1st: What has been the most interesting pieces of feedback so far, good or bad?

Kevin O’Leary: I haven’t dug into the hardcore details yet. We’ve been watching more-like fan sentiment – “I’m liking it. I’m not.” We do see a lot of people – and this has been even before the beta – people love the international aspect of it because, right now, we have it limited so you can basically only play one of each international guy… so people are – they’re talking about them. The nationalities are kind of representing the classes as well, which, in the full game, they’re all interchangable, right? You can have any class with any unit. But right now, they’re like, “oh the Canadian is super cool. I love his ability.” So they’re kind of equating that Canadians have super powers. And then they’re talking about the Germans, like, “of course a German guy would carry a big gun.” – funny things like that. But the point is that people like the international flare. It’s like FIFA, in many ways. It’s way more fun when you can play as your favorite team. That’s really what it kind of boils down to. Same for shooters, you know? We’re giving you a chance to – if you’re Swedish, you can play as a Swedish SOG. It’s a cool piece of feedback. People are liking the map and mode and as well.

MP1st: The overhauled ranking system seems to be a big hit with everyone. There’s a lot of stuff to unlock here. At what point will a player have unlocked 100% of the content?

O’Leary: So, level 72 is where you will have everything given to you, but that’s as far as content goes. Learning about Battlelog and using it and seeing the depth, if you are kind of a completionist, write-off the rest of your life. There is so much depth. We have things called ‘tours,’ which is kind of like, as you play as a class, you do tours of duty, if you will. We also have weapon skins. You get a weapon pin for your gun and then that’s for every weapon. I think there’s upwards of 40+ guns in the game. The depth is huge. You have the Fire Team elements, so playing as a fire team with your buddy, testing them all out, seeing what works well for you guys. There’s just so much to it.

MP1st: The ranking system was somewhat lacking in Medal of Honor: 2010. Was it a major focus for the multiplayer this time around?

O’Leary: Yeah, I think there was a lot we learned from 2010. The offering was decent, but it was not the best it could have been. So, a bunch of things. We went to Frostbite 2 and it’s on both single player and multiplayer. Uniting the game under one engine is definitely a good starting point. Also, going back to the drawing board on what we wanted out of it. You know, we doubled the classes, went for 36, we opened up an exponential number of weaponry, customization. The ‘my gun’ tool is really really fun. You can go in there and see your gun real-time, mix the pieces together, see what it looks like. You get the stat bars and all that stuff. It was really just like a reset. And then the international aspect was what we felt like kind of gave it the edge it needed to sort of break out. And the new modes are needed and they’re fun and we like them a lot.

Taking cover in Sarajevo Stadium

MP1st: At the moment, what are your top priorities when it comes to improvements and feedback gathered from the beta?

O’Leary: Like any good development team, they never want to ship the game cause there’s always more to work on. I think communication with the player’s is something we’re working on. Giving you better feedback from the game, like what’s happening on-screen. Support actions – did you get them? What to they do? Where’s your fire team buddy? Well he’s got the green glow. Great. That looks good. Things like that. Just making sure that its just really easy to get in, to play, to understand, to grasp the concept we have to offer you.

MP1st: How will these changes make it into the final product?

O’Leary: We’ll see what end ups getting in there at the final piece, but we don’t stop at day-one. We’ll definitely may do updates two weeks in or four weeks in or six weeks in or whatever it may be. We’ll make sure the updates that are needed or kind of demanded by players will make their way in.

MP1st: Regarding the Battlelog, which Danger Close has also adopted as an important part of the Medal of Honor: Warfighter experience, can gamers expect all the same features introduced by Battlefield 3, including things like stat-tracking, after-match reports and the ‘Matches’ feature?

O’Leary: You’ll be able to expect more actually. You’re going to get more out of it. Platoons are back and the clan structure so you can see, organize and customize your platoon. You can customize it more than before. We have a meta game in there as well. You’ll earn tokens to use in our meta game called Warfighter Nations. Then, when you redeem those tokens, there’s like a pride element to it, you can actually assign tokens to any of the 193 nations out there, but you also gain XP for redeeming those tokens. So, just extra rewards for playing outside of the game itself. But then I was mentioning things like weapon pins, tours – there’s a whole bunch of stuff that just really adds these extra layers to the Medal of Honor experience.

MP1st: You guys are approaching the deadline in only a weel and couple of days here. What is the overal feeling in the studio?

O’Leary: I think it’s ‘tired.’ We’re pushing to the end, and after that, it’s not like we’re done or all going on vacation. We have the Zero Dark Thirty map pack to work on which comes out in December. Those are really cool maps that are set in Pakistan. Making sure everything runs smooth through the launch. Everyone’s definitely excited that this offering is really strong and we think it’s a great improvement from 2010. We’re just excited to see what people think and see everyone playing on the 23rd.

Keep your sights on MP1st for all the latest on Medal of Honor: Warfighter, releasing this October 23rd on the Xbox, PS3 and PC. Remember, you can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook!

Your CoD Elite Questions Answered, Who Get’s Black Ops 2 DLC First? Elite on All Platforms? And More

Call of Duty Elite was just recently announced as a free service for Black Ops 2 while DLC will be sold separately within a Season Pass or individually.

But, who get’s this DLC first? Will the Season Pass be included in a Black Ops 2 special edition? Are Elite services available on all platforms? What’s the deal with clans? We answer these questions and more below.

According to the Call of Duty Elite FAQ, “fans who purchase the Season Pass will have access to each of the Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 DLC Map Packs on the same date as those who purchase the DLC Map Packs á la carte for their respective platform.” However, it also mentions that “Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 DLC Map Packs will come to the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system first, followed by additional platforms at a later date.”

So while the DLC schedule won’t be as complicated as last year’s Modern Warfare 3 season of content, Xbox 360 players can still look forward to their DLC first.

What about other platforms? “With details for the Wii U™ game system from Nintendo being newly announced, Activision is working with Nintendo on the possibility of releasing the Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 DLC Map Packs and the DLC Season Pass for this new gaming platform, and more details will be released at a later date,” reads the FAQ.

With regards to Modern Warfare 3, gamer should know that “Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 Premium membership content will not be a part of the free Call of Duty® Elite offering for Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2.” However, “existing Call of Duty® Elite login information will give you access to all the Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 elements in Call of Duty® Elite, as well as your existing career stats and data for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 and the original Call of Duty®: Black Ops. You will be able to access all your player and clan information using your existing login.”

For you clan members, “your current Call of Duty® Elite clan for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 3 will transfer over for Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2. However, your Call of Duty® Elite clan level for Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 will be reset, as it is separate from your Call of Duty® Elite clan level for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 3.”

One question on the minds of many gamers is if Activision or Treyarch will release a special collectors edition of Black Ops 2 that includes this Season Pass, on top of the previously announced collectors editions. According to the FAQ, “No, there will not be a Call of Duty® Elite Collector’s Edition of Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2.” Additionally, “Call of Duty® Elite will not be included in the [previously announced] Collector’s Edition of Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2. Call of Duty® Elite services for Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 are free, and Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 DLC Map Packs will be offered separately from Call of Duty® Elite.”

This brings us to our last question. Will Elite be available on platforms other than the Xbox 360 and PS3? “Call of Duty® Elite will be available at launch on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, on select handheld and tablet devices, and on the Web,” answers the FAQ. “We are currently evaluating options for Call of Duty® Elite to support the PC and Nintendo’s Wii U™ game system, however Call of Duty® Elite for Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 will not support these two platforms when the game launches on November 13th.”

Hopefully that clears up a few of your more important Call of Duty Elite questions.

In a follow up to yesterday’s first peak, Activision and Treyarch reveal all there is to know about Call of Duty Elite and this coming year of Black Ops 2 content.

“We’ve learned a lot in our first year of Call of Duty Elite, and we’re very proud that we over delivered on our commitment of playable content to our premium members,” said Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg.  “What we have realized is that several of the Call of Duty Elite services which are currently only available to our premium members for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 are things that would further unite, engage and delight our player community.  So we are going to make them free for Call of Duty: Black Ops II.”

Gamers will be able to expect the following from their free Call of Duty Elite service:

  • Player HQ — Track Call of Duty: Black Ops II performance with rich game statistics, including enhanced match information such as heat maps and recent match data; track challenges and extensively modify your classes like never before using Treyarch’s new Pick 10 Create-a-Class system.
  • Clan HQ — Join an existing clan or start your own, invite friends and then take part in Call of Duty: Black Ops II clan competitions with cool digital prizing.
  • Zombies Support — For the millions of Zombies fans out there, now you can track your Zombies personal statistics and compare it to other players’ around the world.
  • Call of Duty Elite TV — Launching with tablet support with Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the new Call of Duty Elite TV will deliver a renewed community focus featuring developer tips and strategy programming, custom class overviews and more.
  • Social Sharing and Notifications — With Call of Duty Elite‘s new notification system, you can stay updated with what is going on in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, as well as communicate directly with your clan.

So, what about the type of downloadable content we can expect for Black Ops 2 this year?

Hirshberg continued, “For Call of Duty: Black Ops II, DLC Map Packs will be a separate offering from Call of Duty Elite.  The Season Pass will be a great way to acquire all four Map Packs at a discount, but if our fans would rather take it one Map Pack at a time, then we’ll offer each pack a la carte for anyone who wants it.  What we aren’t doing is requiring a paid membership to access the great player services for Call of Duty: Black Ops II and we’re thrilled to offer all ofElite‘sCall of Duty: Black Ops II features to players for free.”

According to Treyarch, “Coming to the Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network first, the four Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC Map Packs will deliver a variety of new Multiplayer and Zombies playable content and are expected to be available in 2013.  The Season Pass will deliver all four Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC Map Packs at a discounted suggested retail price of 4000 Microsoft Points* ($49.99 on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360® (discount based on four DLC Map Packs at a suggested retail price of 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) each).

Additionally, “Season Pass pre-orders are now available at select retail outlets, including GameStop.”  Season Pass and DLC Map Packs may not be available on all gaming platforms.  Pricing and release dates may vary by platform.  All Call of Duty Elite features and availability are subject to change.  Further details regarding the 2013 calendar of Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC Map Packs will be made available at a later date.”

Halo 4’s Vortex Multiplayer Map Revealed

New map details have emerged from the recently released Halo 4 Multiplayer behind-the-scenes walkthrough.

Not only did some keen eyes over at Halo 4 Nation snag some screens of the entire map list that was in the video, but some nice images of the map Vortex as well. Supposedly, this is the Waterworks/Blood Gulch map hinted as by 343 Industries earlier, but we’ll know soon enough.

Check it out:

This is definitely a more vehicle friendly Halo than we’ve seen in the past, and personally, I like that a lot. What do you guys think so far? Ten new maps (Solace, Adrift, Haven, Exile, Complex, Longbow, Ragnarok, Meltdown, Abandon, and Vortex). Three Forge maps ( Ravine, Impact, and Erosion). And nine DLC maps that we know of so far. Add that to the Campaign, that’s slated to be at 10-12 hours, and weekly updates of Spartan Ops. Please tell me how this game could not screw up.

Thanks, Halo 4 Nation!

Sound off below and let us know what you think so far of the grand package that is Halo 4?

Call of Duty UK Website Reveals Black Ops 2 Season Pass

It seems that the official Call of Duty UK website has revealed the Black Ops 2 Season Pass.

According to the website, it doesn’t look like this season pass, detailed below, has anything to do with Activision’s Call of Duty: ELITE service.

What it does cover is the season of DLC that will be made available for Black Ops 2.

Here are the details:

CALL OF DUTY®: BLACK OPS 2 SEASON PASS

THE ULTIMATE WAY TO GET MORE OF CALL OF DUTY®: BLACK OPS 2.

4 EPIC DLC MAP PACKS – 1 GREAT PRICE AT $10 OFF*

Get 4 Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 downloadable content Map Packs, delivering a variety of new content, including Multiplayer and Zombies playable content.

  • Save $10, at discounted suggested retail price of £34.99*
  • Content expected to be available in 2013 – following the game’s launch on 11/13/12
  • Check for availability at your local Game Stop or Best Buy.

*Based on Season Pass suggested retail price of £34.99 and four DLC Map Packs at a suggested retail price of $14.99 each.

**Season Pass and DLC Map Packs may not be available on all platforms or in all territories.  Pricing and release dates may vary by platform. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 game required; sold separately

For those wondering, £34.99 translates to roughly $55.00 USD. The questions is, is this on top of a paid ELITE Premium service or not? Hopefully, we’ll find out in the coming days.

Oddly, the text on the website appears to be incomplete and hard to read due to the dark background.

Update

The homepage displays a heading reading “ELITE Free,” suggesting the ELITE service may be initially free, while users have the option to only pay for the season of DLC – similar to the ELITE vs ELITE Premium model that Modern Warfare 3 adopted. What is unclear is if the supposed “ELITE Free” will include similar features to the current ELITE Premium, but without the DLC.

What are your thoughts on this slightly different approach to Call of Duty DLC?

Borderlands 2 Gaige The Mechromancer DLC Review

After weeks of waiting for the newest character class to be added to Borderlands 2, Gaige the Mechromancer has finally landed a week earlier then we expected and is now playable in the vast world of Pandora. But what exactly is she about and how does she fair against her fellow vault hunters who’ve joined together to stop Handsome Jack from potentially destroying Pandora.

With an already wide variety of different play styles that Borderlands 2 vanilla characters offer, one would ask, what exactly does Gaige the Mechromancer have to offer to players who are further looking to expand their Borderlands 2 experience and what exactly does she bring to the table. For starters, Gaige the Mechromancer seems to easily fill in the void of what Mordercai and his pet Bloodwing brought from the very first Borderlands with the whole ‘sending-out-a-pet-to-to-aid-you-in-battle’ aspect. However, this time around, Gaige and her pet Death-Trap are simply more fulfilling and give you a much better sense of accomplishment. With each slain baddie, you feel much more ‘Bad-Ass’.

There are a lot of things you can do with your pet Death-Trap. For instance, if you go down the Little Big Trouble skill tree, it allows Death Trap to practically become an elemental tank for you which will wreck havoc on anything it comes across and melt any foe like a hot knife through butter, even during the True Vault Hunter Mode.

In addition to having a bad-ass bot as your disposal, Gaige herself seems to act like an older Tiny Tina which can be either good or bad, depending on what you thought about Tina. However, she more then makes up for it with some of her call-outs such as calling her co-op buddies “noobs” as she’s reviving them and yelling out the famous phrase from Unreal Tournament, “M-m-m-monster Kill.” She also has possibly the best customized heads at her disposal that range from making her looking like a zombie to a deranged bunny and a few characters from the Mass Effect series.

Gaige and one of her many obtainable heads

But that’s not all Gaige the Mechromancer is capable of. She’s perfect for fitting any type of play style and more thanks to her very unique and versatile skills that can be found through out each of her three skill trees. Speaking of her skill trees, let’s get a brief run-down of each below:

Best Friend Forever

This first skill tree for Gaige, which is primarily designed for first time or casual players of the Borderlands series, may seem to make the game easier for you and could be considered “easy mode” for a lot of people. But this skill tree contains a lot of hidden gems that even the most advanced players of Borderlands 2 would hesitate to pass up since they go great with skills from the other skill trees.

One of these hidden skill gems is definitely her Upshot Robot. This allows Death-Trap to stay out for a much longer period time, as long as you or Death-Trap are able to take a foe. Doing so will add another five seconds that Death-Trap is able to stay out and help you in the fray of battle and tank for you and your fellow vault hunters.

Another great skill is Gaige’s Close Enough skill, which when fully maxed out, allows any bullet you fired but missed your target to have a 50 percent chance to bounce back from any surface and into the nearest baddie. Even though this may seem like it’ll make the game a little bit too easy, Close Enough is plagued with a 50 percent bullet damage reduction for any bullet that misses it’s initial target and hits a different target. But, with a high Anarchy stack, it can offset the damage penalty of Close Enough and can allow for a very interesting combination that allows you to easily clear any room.

This brings us to the game changer of the Best Friend Forever skill tree, Sharing is caring. This skill allows you to give your buddy Death-Trap a copy of the current shield that you have equipped which can come up with very interesting results. For example, giving Death-Trap a copy of the ‘Impaler’ shield sends outs damaging spikes to any foe who’s shooting at you and Death-Trap, as well as  attacking you with any type of melee attack. This literally let’s you dish out more damage than you’re receiving.

Overall, if you’re planning on maximizing the true potential of the Mechromancer class, you may want to invest in a couple of skill points for this tree to ensure you will survive a little longer, as well to make each and every bullet fired count.

Little Big Trouble

The second skill tree for the Mechromancer offers a lot of elemental damage boosts, as well as adds a ton of different elemental abilities and attacks for you and Death-Trap that are capable of dealing massive damage to any baddie. Even though Gaige gets to inflict tons of electrical, fire and even slag damage with some of the skills found in this tree, she still would be missing the most important elemental in the game, corrosive. This you will need if you plan on beating the game with more ease since corrosive damage is almost necessary to deal with those pesky Hyperion robots.

With the many skills that are in the Little Big Trouble skill tree that boost your elemental attacks and give you the ability to up your damage per second, there are a few that shine above the rest, the first one being Shock Storm. This skill practically turns any baddie killed by a critical hit into a light show of electricity and is capable of harming any of their friends near by. Due to its area of damage that Shock Storm is able to cover, it goes great paired with the Electrical Burn skill which deals fire damage to any baddie that’s been hit with an electric weapon.

This brings us to probably Gaige’s best crowd control skill, One Two Boom. This makes your buddy Death-Trap charge up for a couple of seconds to then release a slow moving electrical orb at your enemy. When it gets shot at by either you or one of your co-op buddies, it releases a huge blast that’s capable of covering a very large area, dealing a massive amount of damage to everyone in it. Additionally, when your character is fully maxed out with this skill, it’s capable of hitting upwards to 390,000 points of damage which pretty much instantly kills any non-badass or boss even in the True Vault Hunter Mode.

Then there’s Make It Sparkle which causes Death-Trap to turn into any elemental you want by simply shooting him with that element type. Doing so makes Death-Trap’s melee attacks deal additional elemental damage and makes him immune to any damage he may receive from that element.

If you’re looking for a tree to boost your damage over time and your overall damage per second with tons of elemental attacks and abilities, then this skill tree is best suited for you since this has the second highest elemental damage output next to Maya. If you play it smart, you shouldn’t have to worry about any non-boss foe being too tough for you. You and your Death-Trap now have the answers to face anything that the game might throw at you.

Death-Trap subduing a Bullymong with ‘The Stare’ ability

Ordered Chaos

The third and final skill tree for Gaige, also possibly the most advanced one so far in the whole game, offers a lot of unique abilities that give her a ton of boosts that either trade power for accuracy or shields for health and that can be stacked however many times you please. It can literally be played anyway you want.

First up, and possibly the most important skill in this tree, is Anarchy. Using this skill allows Gaige to receive one stack of Anarchy which each one giving you a 1.75 percent damage boost for every stack you have which can be stacked up to 450 times with the Preshrunk Cyberpunk skill tree. Even though it may seem like a dream come true for people who love to deal massive amounts of damage, the loss of accuracy from the Anarchy stacks will greatly affect your character. After a while, you will have issues even hitting anything farther then 5 feet from you. However, there’s an easy work-around this. You can invest in the Close Enough skill from the Best Friend Forever skill tree or use any Law revolver. Also, if you’re having issues with hitting something at a further range, you can prematurely reload your gun to get rid of all of your Anarchy stack to get your accuracy back. If you wish to not completely lose all of them and want to build your Anarchy stacks back up, then Rational Anarchist will help you out with that. It can give you 25 stacks of Anarchy if you currently have none.

Up next is Blood Soaked Shields. Putting a point into this skill allows Gaige to recover 20% of her shield per kill, but at the lost of one percent of her health. It may seem like a huge trade off, but it isn’t too bad since you can add another point to her Discord skill which nets you health regeneration when you prematurely reload. It can offset any health loss you might experience with Blood Soaked Shields. This skill works very well when Gaige is equipped with the Bee shield which gives you a bonus of 50,000 damage per bullet as long your shields are full.

Then there’s With Claws which is Ordered Chaos’ game changer that allows Gaige to digistruct claws when she melees a foe. It also allows her more health regeneration, except this time, you gain the health equal to the damage you’ve dealt by using With Claws. This should ensure that you never have a need to step back and re-think your strategy and allows you be in the fray of battle for a lot longer.

Overall, Gaige offers multiple abilities and play-styles that can cater to any level of gaming from the casuals, all the way to the hardcore gamers and is probably the second most versatile character in the game if used right. One of the sweetest things about her skill tree, depending on which path you take, is that Death-Trap’s appearance changes, turning him into a more menacing pet. Looks range from additional armor pieces to adding multiple blades across his body that can easily strike fear to any baddie you may come across on the planet of Pandora.

Final Thoughts

If you’re on the fence about buying this newly released character, or even being bothered by the lengthy task of leveling up Gaige, she’s definitely worth it. She adds a breath of fresh of air to the already great cast of playable characters and adds her own spin to the whole pet class. If you’re one of the few players who tend to go on this lengthy adventure of stopping Handsome Jack alone, you will be pleased to know that Death-Trap makes everything easier for you due to him actively seeking and destroying baddies on his own. He also instantly draws aggro from everyone near him which he can easily brush off due to his huge HP. This allows you to selectively pick and choose which foe you wish to take out without any worries of being attacked.

But as great as she is, she does have some quirks to work out which are mostly due to the pretty annoying screaming that’s caused when you’re hit by an elemental attack. It can irritate you and can get pretty loud at times. There are also some issues of her Death-Trap having sound issues when one of the many creatures of Pandora die to his Robot Rampage ability. Sometimes, the sound doesn’t go away until he attacks another foe or when he dies/the time expires. In addition to all the sounds issue that can plague Gaige, if you’re playing Borderlands 2 on a console, having two or more Death-Traps on screen at one seem to make the game take a huge hit in frames per second which, in turn, lags everything in the game for you and everyone else. However, these are simply minor technical issues that could easily be patched in the future.

Overall, Gaige the Mechromancer gets a solid 4.5 out of 5 from me. If you have the cash or the time to spare for her, she’s definitely worth it.

Five Licensed Franchises That Need The Video Game Multiplayer Treatment

So I’ve just seen Dredd 3D. It was awesome. I’ve played Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and it was flipping sweet. What do these two things have in common, you might wonder? They’re both licensed franchises, and unfortunately one of them is not a video game…yet.

It’s come to my attention that there are several franchises out there in the blue yonder that have not gotten the proper video game treatment, and I do believe it’s time, now more than ever, that they get that treatment – either now at the end of this generation, or some time earlier when the new consoles hit. I’ve narrowed my list down to five, and these games I do believe, should they ever get the proper video game treatment, will work well with their own version of multiplayer.

G.I. JOE

Okay so the gaming community has figured out a way to make Transformers, Spiderman, and James Bond work. Why can we not get a G.I. Joe game to work? Think about it for a moment. Its crazy now that you think about it right? It’s not too hard. In fact, the franchise already has its template laid out for us. Just go by the Transformers template used recently. It’s third person and you can choose up to four character classes.

  • Your Commander: Duke, Cobra Commander. Abilities, are Rally (offensive, and defensive damage boost), and the ability to call in airstrikes.
  • Stealth/Sniper/Ninja (whatever you want to call it): Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cover Girl, Zartan. Abilities are Disguise/Blend In/Invisibility, and the ability to use special melee attacks.
  • Heavy class: Heavy Duty, Destro. Abilities are Ammo Drop and Damage Resilence.
  • Engineer: Tunnel Rat, Dr. Mindbender. Has the special ability to repair vehicles, and is the only class that can hack enemy electronics.

Or if thats just too much, take everything I just mentioned, at least the class part, and utilize the Star Wars: Battlefront style. After accumulating enough points, a player could play as a special leader character (Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes etc.). What do you know? This actually sounds like a good idea for a game. Hint, Hint!

INCEPTION

This one is fairly young on the list as, really, it seems like the hardest to do. While my hope for this game’s release is palpable (Chris Nolan did say he wanted a video game out of Inception after all), it probably won’t happen. But still, one can hope. Just imagine you as the player, and your team is supposed to be the “Projections”, protecting the Mark, while the other team composed of players from the real game world are supposed to well… do “Inception” on the mark. This is another one I can see as a third person shooter, with players bouncing around on walls and running up ceilings trying to kill each other. Heck, they even mentioned in the movie how they used the dream machine for soldiers in the Army so that they could learn to shoot, and kill each other. Well now, doesn’t that sound like a good game idea?

TRON

Okay this is just too easy. The multiplayer has a story, as players are captured and sent to the Games to take part in. Each game is different, like Light cycle racing and Disc Wars. Heck, I’m sure someone could even find a way to put guns in there to make it work. I see it as a very arena-style game, where after each game you win, you can use the points you accumulate to buy new armor and color variations. This could probably really work, but someone (Namely Disney) just needs to see that there is life in this franchise.

PREDATOR

This mode has been copied thousands of times. Its Predator! Why would you not copy it?! Halo – AvP (duh), and thousands of others have used the “your-being-hunted-by-someone-vastly-superior-to-you, stay-alive” mode. Halo’s is juggernaut, and sometimes Infection. Crysis 3 has it in it’s new Hunter mode. So, why not make a true blue Predator game, dealing with none other than the big guy himself. Think about Deathmatches: you and five other Predators square off for kills using plasma canons, wrist blades, and discs to eviscerate your foes. Getting trophies off of other players would be like Halo’s Assassinations that net you extra points.

A Hunter mode called “get to da choppa!” could have you playing as Dutch’s team from Predator. One player is picked to be the visceral invisible ugly mother ******, and must hunt down the elite team as they make their way to extraction. The last man standing gets a damage boost, and is covered in mud to become invisible to the Predator’s heat vision. The only way to win is make it to the extraction, or kill the thing. Post-game can have you upgrading your humans with better weapons, or Predators with better body armor and weapons with different camp colors and skins. There’s already been a halfway decent Predator game come out already. Now, let’s make a really good one.

JUDGE DREDD

The new movie is perfect. Why no one has thought to give this a perfect video game adaptation is beyond me – third person, GTA-style game, with GTA like multiplayer. How do you mess this up? You play as the iconic Dredd in a “Laaaawww and Order” mode in which you exact justice on street punks. A group of players play as a couple of low-life, hostage-taking thugs with rifles and shotguns whom are faster than the Judges, but also weaker. The Judges, on the other hand, have one gun, The Lawgiver, that can fire a multitude of different ammo types: incendiary, flare, semi-automatic, grenade, armor-piercing, stun, etc. Though the Judges are slower than the street thugs, they have access to their bike and drone support from judicial HQ.

Here’s the scenario, a group of players can have committed some crime in the block, the other team consisting of three Judges must stop the criminals and judge them. The only way to judge players is to incapacitate them. Depending on their crimes, is the punishment. Say, for instance, a thug kills a judge. That player gets marked with “Death” on his head and must be executed immediately. Thugs must either kill all three judges to win, or they must lose them to escape. I can see this as a persistent game world, as when, say, all three Judges are killed, they become a priority for another group of Judges. Those thugs get access to better weapons and armor as their infamy goes up. The Judges, on the other hand, become faster and get access to better support from command. If anyone is reading this, set it in the world in which the movie is, and make it ultra-violent. It could work. We just need…*ahem* justice for it.

So what do you think? Do you like my choices? Do you have any of your own franchises that need a multiplayer video game adaptation? Sound off in the comments below!

Don’t Miss The Zombie Bus Or This Brand New Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies Trailer

This brand new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies trailer shows how you can make the most of the materials you gather amidst all the zombie slaying on the massive, undead-infested world of Tranzit.

“Collect the right pieces as you make your way through TRANZIT and you might have a chance to put them to good use. Shotguns are classic, and rifles are powerful, but neither can compare with the cover offered by the ZOMBIE SHIELD!”

Metro: Last Lights Will Not Ship With Multiplayer, Could “Potentially” Return Afterwards

Early this year, it was confirmed by 4A Games (the developers behind Metro) that Last Lights would indeed feature some multiplayer components. Not much news about the multiplayer has since been revealed until today.

4A Games has officially come out with an update on the multiplayer stating that the game will not ship with it at all. Due to feedback from the E3 single player Demo, the team has decided to take the small group of MP developers and channel their resources towards the single player.

Your response to our E3 demo made it very clear that although there was a lot of interest and intrigue around Metro’s multiplayer, the single player campaign is what the fan base cares about the most. ,

The team said on their blog. So does this mean that the multiplayer idea is completely dead? Not at all, as when they were asked on the subject of MP DLC, they responded with.

Right now we’re 100% focused on the single player campaign and not thinking beyond that. We don’t like throwing away work though, it’s a project we could potentially return to after Metro: Last Light ships.

The removal of multiplayer will play no effect in the release date of Last Lights, which is slated to release early next year.

How do you guys feel about the removal of multiplayer despite not seeing it yet. Did they make the right decision in going forward with offering players a single player experience rather than multiplayer?

New Details on the Halo 4 Progression System, More ForgeWorld and ‘Complex’ Walkthrough

343 Industries gives Halo 4 fans an in-depth look into the new progression system of Halo 4’s multiplayer. We also get a look at some more editing options in the recently revealed Forge Mode, and take a look at yet another walkthrough of a new Halo 4 multiplayer map, Complex.

First, let’s take a peek at some more Forge World editing, courtesy of Gamespot.

[youtube id=”Kxe-OiyaIZw” width=”600″ height=”350″]

For those who like to know every nook and cranny of a competitive multiplayer map before your first real-life go, IGN has another map walkthrough, this time of Complex.

[youtube id=”5XSSrGfiqHo” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Now, onto some serious multiplayer details.

Halo 4 Progression System

Here are a few of the basic points of the Halo 4 progression system.

  • You can progress your multiplayer career across both Spartan Ops and War Games.
  • Unlock pace will be regular, but not so fast that it causes confusion.
  • Goal was to give progress more meaning by having impact the gameplay in Halo 4.
  • Can modify weapons and abilities.
  • You can build your character and experience the way you want with quick access to the things you want to use.
  • More difficult choices lie in Specializations, which come later.
  • Quitters do not get game completion XP
  • Below is a breakdown of the Halo 4 progression system.

The following in-depth look at the progressions system is as seen on The Halo Waypoint, written by 343 dev, “BS Angel.”

Spartan-IV Career

When you first enter Infinity Multiplayer, you automatically enlist into the SPARTAN-IV program and begin your Spartan career. This career spans all of your gameplay in War Games, Spartan Ops, Forge and Theater.

New SPARTAN-IV recruits are issued the following gear:

• Assault Rifle
• Magnum
• Frag Grenade
• Recruit Armor, Emblem, Visor and Stance

Stances are a new customization option that let you select a pose for your Spartan on your Player Card. This card is seen in every multiplayer lobby in the game and is how your Spartan is identified outside of gameplay.

You will have to rise up through the Spartan ranks to unlock more gear and make your way through the SPARTAN-IV program.

Spartan-IV Ranks

Spartans begin their career in the base SPARTAN-IV ranks. There are 50 ranks to work your way through, from SR-1 to SR-50, unlocking gameplay and visual customization items as you rank up.

To rank up, you need to earn XP. You earn XP by:

• Playing War Games (earn more for winning and high personal score)
• Playing Spartan Ops (earn more for higher difficulties)
• Completing each level of a Commendation
• Completing Challenges
• Using Forge

At each rank, you will earn one or more Spartan Points (SP). SP are used to purchase gameplay items for your personal loadouts. Once you purchase an item, it can be used in any of your loadouts.

The Spartan Point system is based around offering choice at each rank. The full suite of gameplay items is available for purchase by SR-26 but you won’t have enough SP to buy everything until SR-50. It’s up to you to decide the order in which you want to build up the arsenal for your Spartan-IV.

Loadouts

Each loadout contains a Primary Weapon, Secondary Weapon, Grenade, Armor Ability, Tactical Package and Support Upgrade. As you rank up, you will gain access to the Armor Ability slot (SR-3), the Tactical Package slot (SR-7), and the Support Upgrade slot (SR-12).

We have default loadouts in our War Games playlists to give you a preview of these items before you reach those ranks, and to offer an alternative to your own custom loadouts.

Over the course of the SPARTAN-IV ranks, you also unlock four extra loadouts (at SR-6, SR-14, SR-26 and SR-41) for a total of five loadouts. You can rename these loadouts, so pick names that match the role or gear for that particular loadout.

Visual Customization

All Spartan-IVs start out with the same Recruit look. As you rank up, this is reflected in the look of your Spartan, which is visible to other players in gameplay and every Multiplayer lobby.

Visual customization items such as Armor, Armor Skins, Weapon Skins, Visors, Emblems and Stances are unlocked through several means:

• Earning a specific SR rank
• Earning a specific rank in a Specialization
• Mastering a Commendation
• Completing a Waypoint goal

When you meet the prerequisite, you will gain access to the items automatically; you do not need to spend Spartan Points.

Specializations

Once you hit SR-50, you have the option to enlist in a new Specialization. You can choose which of the available Specializations to enlist in.

Specializations are composed of ten levels each. As you rank up in Specializations, you will unlock new armor sets, emblems, visor colors, armor and weapon skins and armor mods – which provide even more options to customize your Spartan-IV to fit your preferred role on the battlefield.

Once you commit to a Specialization, you have to complete it before switching to a new one. It will take roughly as long to complete a Specialization as it does to go from SR-40 to SR-50.

All players have access to two Specializations at launch:

• Wetwork: WK-1 to WK-10
• Operator: OP-1 to OP-10

The rest, which are listed below, will gradually be made available in the months following launch. We will be keeping a close watch on player participation post-launch and will roll out the additional six Specializations when the player base reaches certain milestones. Purchasers of the Limited Edition and pre-orders in certain territories have launch day access to the remaining six Specializations – although you still need to complete the initial 50 Ranks before you can enlist in one.

• Engineer: EN-1 to EN-10
• Tracker: TK-1 to TK-10
• Rogue: RG-1 to RG-10
• Stalker: SK-1 to SK-10
• Pathfinder: PT-1 to PT-10
• Pioneer: PR-1 to PR-10

Other players will be able to see your overall progress through the Specializations by your SR rank. This keeps going up by one each time you earn a Specialization rank, all the way up to SR-130. There might be a reward or two waiting for those who hit SR-130!

Commendations

Halo 4 features over 120 commendations covering a wide variety of activities (per weapon, per enemy type and per game type, for example). There are commendations based around earning specific medals, and we also have aggregators that require you to master multiple commendations to complete them. Commendations also have a variable number of levels.

Certain Commendations can award visual customization items when you master them. To master a Commendation, you need to have earned its highest level.

We see the Commendation system as the long-term progression with the most exclusive items. Most players will still be mastering Commendations well after completing the Specializations.

Challenges

Like Commendations, Challenges have been expanded in Halo 4. We not only have daily content, but also a weekly and monthly cadence as well, giving players ample time to complete different challenges with varying levels of difficulty.

Challenges are divided into four categories:

  • Campaign
    • 2 Weekly Challenges
  • War Games
    • 2 Daily Challenges
    • 2 Weekly Challenges
    • 1 Monthly Challenge
  • Spartan Ops
    • 6 Challenges
  • Waypoint
    • Exclusive daily challenges for War Games

343 has been giving us a healthy dose of multiplayer info this week. Sound off below! What’s your excitement level for Halo 4?

Multiplayer Games You Might Have Missed – Week 6: Resident Evil 6

Of all the games being released this time of year, it gets really hard to find games that standout from the crowd.  While most people probably aren’t big Resident Evil fans, I am.  I haven’t played much of the previous games in the series, but RE6 is an excellent game.  Is it scary?  No, not really, nor is it trying to be.  Is it fun?  Yes, very fun.

Few shooters these days focus on an intimate experience and most that do fail.  RE6 is one of those rare games that playing with less than 4 people feels like the only way to play it.  Just imagine BO Zombies with only 2 people, sounds boring to me.  But RE6 handles the experience with ease and class.  It’s you and your friend fighting off hordes of (idiotic but hard-to-put-down) enemies and challenging bosses.  It’s an old school game that knows what its audience is looking for and delivers exactly that.

Should you buy this game?  If you’re looking for a casual shooter (or hardcore if you up the difficulty to professional) then you’re getting a lot of bang for the buck.  In fact, because it only supports 2 players, RE6 lends itself very well to not having an entire friends list trying to play it with you.  Getting 3 storylines with unique characters to play as is worth every penny to me.  RE6 offers a lot of content and it’s good content.  The graphics are visually interesting, colorful, and well done.  Shooting is easy without being mindless.  The camera system and character movement feels clunky, but it never stopped me from running up to a downed enemy and stomping their head in.  And overall, the diversity in settings, enemies, weapons, and story kept me interested in RE6 without feeling like too much to take in.

Bottom line, RE6 is a fun casual shooter that offers a lot of content and a great 2 player experience with a lot of diversity.  The fact that it isn’t more popular with the online community is kind of unfortunate considering how good a game it is.  And if you don’t want to pay for it without getting some hands-on time, check out the demo on both the PSN and XBL.

Below is a video by WingsOfRedemption that I think highlights what makes the intimate gameplay of RE6 so fun.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Beta Receives A Server Update

Thanks to Community Manager Seeson Mahathavorn, we got the first information regarding a server update pushed to the Medal of Honor beta.

While the beta for the most part is holding it’s own and is not plagued by any ground-breaking bugs or glitches, there are a few issues that Danger Close decided to tweak for players enjoying the beta. Below is a full list of changes you can expect the next time you hop in and play.

  • Fallback Spawn – We’ve received a ton of feedback on our spawn mechanic! It was clear that the initial system occasionally placed players too close to harm’s way. This new update changes where you spawn in vs. the proximity of enemy players when using fallback spawn. We are also investigating Fireteam spawns for the final game.
  • Weapon Tuning – We’ve listened to your feedback regarding weapons and have tweaked them accordingly.
  • Player Dropout – We’ve addressed some issues regarding player connectivity and should have a more stable connection to game servers.

Seeson went on to clarify “There were numerous reports about “invisible weapons” and “invisible characters” showing up. The team has verified that this is a beta-specific unlocks issue and has confirmed that this is not an issue in the final version of the game.”

Don’t forget that you have until Monday, October 15th to enjoy the beta before it ends. Medal of Honor: Warfighter is scheduled to hit store shelves for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 23rd.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Create-a-Class in Single Player, Theater Mode in Zombies and 3D Returns

Treyarch lays out some of the fancy new features making their way to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 this November.

Speaking with GTTV, members of Treyarch reveal that there is more to Black Ops 2 than meet’s the eye. On top of the totally revamped multiplayer, which you can read all about right here, both the single player campaign and Zombies mode will be seeing some brand new additions that are sure to raise the level in which Treyarch is taking Call of Duty this year.

It looks like Black Ops 2’s multiplayer experience simply cannot be contained in one mode alone. For a first in the series, a feature introduced in the multiplayer will make an appearance in the single player campaign. During a demonstration of the new Monsoon level (in which a brand new camoflauge that makes its wearer invisible was shown off), it was revealed that “the little brother of Create-a-Class,” as game design director David Vonderhaar puts it, will be at the finger tips of players as they play through the campaign. This will allow players to alter their loadout before heading into a single player mission, just as you tweak your set-up before jumping into a multiplayer match. Studio head Mark Lamia also mentions that particular challenges in each single player level will require certain weapons to complete. In turn, completing these challenges will unlock additional weapons and attachments for you to use throughout the rest of the campaign.

But it doesn’t stop there. Black Ops 2’s multiplayer even manages to sneak its way into the highly popular Zombies mode. Black Ops 2 Zombies will now include the ability to record gameplay via the Theater mode, a first for the zombie-survival mini-game. Being built on the multiplayer engine, this allowed Treyarch to utilize similar features like the Theater mode in Zombies, providing fans with the ability to capture those intense zombie slaying moments.

Also demonstrated to GTTV was the multiplayer map Hijacked, which you can catch a glimpse of below:

[youtube id=”s5FGwLGBIDs” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Additionally, it was revealed that Black Ops 2 will ship with over 12 multiplayer maps at launch.

Returning to Black Ops 2, once again, is the ability to play in 3D. Players will also be able to utilize the technology to play co-op but without the limited view of the split-screen.

What do you think of these amazing features being added to both the single player campaign and Zombies mode? Surely we can expect some killer Zombie clips from the community when Black Ops 2 hits shelves this November 13th. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
