Studio Wildcard Releases Another Ark Survival Ascended Update for Aberration Fixes

Following the big Aberration content patch for Ark Survival Ascended, Studio Wildcard has released yet another patch for the game again! In case you’ve forgotten, there was a patch released less than 16 hours ago for the PS5 that helped resolved crashing issues that made multiplayer unplayable.

This time around, another patch is released which shows up as Ark Survival Ascended update 1.052.008 on PS5, and version 52.9 on PC. It includes a host of gameplay-related adjustments, it seems and not just to help with performance.

Here’s what’s new per Studio Wildcard (via the official Ark Discord channel):

v52.9 – Minor version for Steam Clients – 06/09/2024 (Also on PS5, Xbox Series):

  • Rebaked the grass on Aberration
  • Fixed some cases where shadow flickering could occur
  • Fixed some client crashes
  • Fixed some animation bugs with Cosmo
  • Fixed some shuttering with the new Engineer outfit
  • Fixed some holes, volumes, and general visual level related bugs
  • Fixed some animation bugs with the Tesla Coils
  • Fixed some lumen issues with the Waterfall
  • Fixed some VFX issues with the Googun

Chances are, given the scope of the Aberration title update, this is not the only patch we’ll get to fix issues connected with the patch. Having said that, it won’t always be a client-side patch, as Studio Wildcard does sometimes roll out server-side fixes as well.

If we get wind of any major changes released yet again, we’ll be sure to post it up here on MP1st.

Like a Dragon Devs Say They Will Stick to “Middle-Aged Guy” Stories Despite Expanding Audience

The Like a Dragon series is enjoying growing success, with its audience expanding to include more younger and female players. Despite this broader appeal, the developers have stated that the series will continue to focus on stories of “middle-aged guys doing middle-aged guy things.”

In an interview with Automaton, Ryosuke Horii, the series director, highlighted that one of the core elements of the game is its focus on relatable experiences for middle-aged men. He said:

In Yakuza: Like a Dragon, everything starts with three unemployed middle-aged guys being like “Let’s go to Hello Work.” They have a different air about them than a group of young heroes would, complaining about back pain and the like. But this “humanity” you feel from their age is what gives the game originality.

Furthermore, Hirotaka Chiba, the lead planner, reinforced this idea, pointing out that even the small, everyday conversations in the game reflect this approach. He said:

For example, there’s a conversation where Adachi is conflicted about whether he should drink beer or not because he’s worried about his uric acid level. We’re making the hearty talks of middle-aged dudes our identity, rather than youthfulness.

Despite the growing number of younger and female fans, the development team has no intention of changing its formula. Horii expressed his gratitude for the expanding fan base, saying:

We have had a large increase in new fans, including women, which we’re truly happy and grateful for. However, we don’t plan to do anything like deliberately changing conversation topics in order to cater to new fans. That would make us unable to keep talking about things like uric acid levels… (laughs)

Considering all this, it seems the developers of Like a Dragon have no intention of shifting away from the theme of “middle-aged guys doing middle-aged guy things,” as they believe this is the core identity of the series.

The Latest Diablo 4 Update for Sept. 6 Fixes Issues With Wings on All Platforms

Blizzard has released another update for Diablo 4 this September 6, and this is the second patch for the game rolled out this week. While the first patch released on Tuesday tweaked Infernal Hordes and other bugs, the latest Diablo 4 update (version 1.58 on last-gen, and version 1.056 on current-gen) fixes specific issues related to a few items.

What’s new in today’s Diablo 4 patch? According to Blizzard here’s what got changed:

  • Fixed an issue where the Wings of the Damned and Wings of the Faith items showed a mismatched outline when the Additional Player Highlight setting was enabled.
  • Various stability and performance improvements.

That’s about it. Of course, given the last significant patch we just got, this is understandable, and we are awaiting the big 2.0 title update that essentially re-invents Diablo 4 from top to bottom.

We’re keeping an eye out on any stealth changes made and if we spot any, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Asidfe from the big 2.0 patch, the Vessel of Hatred DLC is set to be released this October, which will bring in a new Spiritborn class.

Stay tuned for more Diablo coverage here on MP1st.

Concord Gets Last Update as Servers Go Offline This Sept. 6; Firewalk Issues Last Statement

Freegunners everywhere, the time you’ve been dreading for is here! Firewalk Studios has released the last update for Concord (version 1.003.008), and this brings the game’s servers offline, as per the announcement earlier this week.

While this marks the end of the game’s servers, based o Sony’s wording, this might not be the last time we see Concord in action. Per Sony’s press release about it, they want to “explore options, including those that will better reach our players” which sounds like the game might be going free-to-play.

For those that did buy it, the game can be refunded:

Steam Store – Steam Store will refund players who bought the game over the coming days. Steam will send confirmation of the refund once it has been processed.

Epic Games Store – Epic Games Store will refund players who bought the game over the coming days and will contact each customer directly to confirm that the refund has been processed.

Other retailer refunds – For customers who have purchased a physical copy at a retailer location outside of PlayStation directly, please refer to the refund process of the retailer you purchased it from to obtain your refund.

If you bought it off of the PlayStation Network Store, you will be issued a refund via your original payment method.

Over on the game’s Discord channel, Firewalk Studios issued one last statement about the game:

Concord servers are officially closed.

On behalf of everyone at Firewalk, thank you for all of your support. We are deeply thankful for those of you who spent your time with us, made memories, and learned what it means to be a Freegunner.

This Discord server will continue to remain open as a way for you all to connect. You may see some construction around here as we make some edits to channels and categories to help better streamline the conversation. We appreciate you spending time with us in this server! 🫶

Thank you for joining us on the journey.

With deep gratitude and love,

As one last hurrah before the game’s servers went offline, Concord players jumped into the game to try and get the trophies associated with the game, though it meant that players jumped off the game’s levels and committed suicide. You can read more about that here.

Will Concord fly back again? We can’t say for sure, but let’s hope if it does come back, we have a more appealing character design, better framework on what its identity is.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards and Map This Week September 6

Destiny‘s Trials of Osiris weekly PvP mode has returned this Friday with a new map and rewards. If you’re wondering about the current rotation, we’ve got you covered: MP1st’s new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week September 6, 2024 post lists down all that information in full below.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week September 6 2024:

Trials of Osiris Map:

Distant Shore

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: The Prophet (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Persistence Reaching seven wins rewards the weekly Adept weapon. When you are not in a full fireteam, losses following a win remove the win from the card. Reaching seven wins without losing a match grants access to the Lighthouse. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. Forgives a second loss if you have not yet been flawless this week. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Wealth Increased reputation from match wins on a ticket. 2500 Glimmer
Passage of Confidence Grants bonus rewards from Flawless Chest. 5000 Glimmer

WEAPON SWAP SPEEDS

We’ve seen the feedback about weapon swap speeds, and we agree. We’ll be reducing weapon drop times across the board for an overall increase to swap speeds. Players looking for an even quicker swap speed can try out the Fast Hands Strategist Perk in Week 2 of the Beta.

  • Assault Rifle, SMG, Shotgun, LMG, Marksman Rifle, Pistol, and Launcher drop times reduced by 50ms
  • Sniper drop times reduced by 100ms

  • Move Speed increased from 4.47m/s -> 4.52m/s
  • ADS Move Speed decreased from 3.94m/s -> 3.81m/s

  • Tactical Sprint Speed increased from 8.41m/s -> 8.66m/s
  • Move Speed increased from 4.47m/s -> 4.62

Weapon Adjustments

SMG Adjustments

Jackal PDW

  • Decreased Maximum Damage from 29 -> 26
    • Decreased Maximum Damage range from 15.24m -> 14.61m
  • Decreased Near-Medium Damage from 23 -> 22
    • Decreased Near-Medium Damage range from 22.86m -> 17.78m
  • Decreased Medium Damage from 22 -> 18
    • Decreased Medium Damage range from 29.21m -> 26.04m
  • Decreased Minimum Damage from 19 -> 15
  • Small increase to view kick strength and view kick deviation.
  • CHF Barrel
    • Headshot multiplier improved from 1.2 -> 1.4

The Jackal PDW ‘s intended strength is best in class handling and decent mobility, balanced by a slower rate of fire compared to many of the other automatic weapons in the game. It was overperforming at medium ranges, so we’ve increased the damage falloff and pulled the ranges closer along with a slight increase to recoil. Maximum damage and CHF Barrel headshot multiplier have been adjusted to maintain the same hit to kill numbers while using the attachment.

C9

  • Increased medium damage range from 25.4m -> 27.31m

We feel that the C9 is in a good spot as a well-rounded Submachine Gun with a solid rate of fire. It has higher horizontal recoil compared to other Submachine Guns, so we’ve given a boost to its medium damage falloff range.

Marksman Rifles Adjustments

SWAT 5.56

  • Disabled burst fire queuing, which was queuing an additional burst if the fire input was activated at any time during the previous burst or the burst cooldown.

This is a minor change to improve control with the Swat 5.56 (and any future burst weapons).

ATTACHMENTS

  • The Rapid Fire attachment now correctly displays its recoil penalty con. The attachment description has also been updated to indicate the tradeoff.

MAPS

General

  • Adjusted general spawn logic to enable additional valid spawns under certain scenarios.
  • Adjusted spawn logic across several maps with the goal of reducing a high frequency of spawn flipping.

Spawns Changes in Weekend 2:

For Weekend 2 of our Open Beta, we’ve adjusted general spawn logic and have targeted multiple maps with additional tuning changes with the goal of improving predictability and time to engagement. We know we have some work to do and will continue to process our data, evaluate your feedback, and play the game with you all to draw our own conclusions on how to continue making positive progress.

SCORESTREAKS

  • RC-XD
    • Improved handling and general usability.
  • Watchdog Helo
    • Increased base health.
  • Hellstorm
    • Increased Cluster Bomb damage radius.

EQUIPMENT

  • Lethal Equipment
    • Thermo Grenade
      •     Reduced explosive ignition delay.

MOVEMENT

  • Slight increase to the time to enter prone or supine during a slide.
  • Slight increase to all mantle speeds.
  • Slight decrease to time before movement is allowed after landing from a Dive to Prone.
  • Slight increase to Dive to Prone landing friction.

PROGRESSION

  • Weapon XP
    • Increased awarded Weapon XP, which will decrease the amount of time needed to gain Weapon Levels. The Weapon XP speeds observed in Weekend 1 were slower than expected.
  • Daily Challenges
    • Fixed an issue that was causing the Daily Challenge countdown timer to display the incorrect reset time.
    • The “Get 50 Eliminations with the Recon Perk Specialty equipped” Daily Challenge will now track progress correctly.
  • General
    • Beta Rewards earned in a match will now appear in the After-Action Report.

  • Resolved an issue where some sounds were not playing during Best Play.
  • Reenabled a previously disabled audio occlusion system on PlayStation 5.

  • Addressed various localization issues.

SETTINGS

  • Users should no longer encounter issues when switching their ADS Transition Timing to ‘Instant’, when using keyboard and mouse.

GENERAL

  • Reduced the amount of camera motion in the Dynamic Deathcam.

STABILITY

  • Improved stability in Skyline.
  • Improved stability in Training Course.
  • Improved general server-side stability.

DICE will release a new update for Battlefield 2042 this September 10, and this adds the UH-60 chopper as a new vault drop alongside other changes. While this is called patch 8.1.0 by DICE, last-gen console owners will see this Battlefield 2042 update version 1.59, with current-gen owners (PS5, Xbox Series) getting the 1.000.062 client download.

According to DICE, as part of the transition of the vehicle from Battlefield Portal to Battlefield 2042, players can expect a new Repair System and Cyberwarfare Protection System, alongside improvements to its camera and flying characteristics.

BF2042 gamers can play between September 10 – 24 on two new game modes “Breakthrough UH-60,” and “Control Unlocked.” Players can earn ribbons to permanently unlock the vehicle. During the allocated timeframe, Breakthrough in UH-60 Chaos and Control Unlocked will also result in all specialists, weapons, gadgets and vehicles will also be available for use, and players will earn ribbons twice as fast as you play the two limited-time modes during this timeframe.

Battlefield 2042 Update 8.1.0 Patch Notes:

General Changes

  • Improved the Conquest stat tab to show the correct amount of defensive kills.
  • Fixed the mastery level that’s displayed on highlighted weaponry not correctly updating within the classes screen whilst deployed.
  • Time spent on Objective added to the Scoreboard in the Strike Team mode.
  • Fixed an issue where ribbons were not displayed correctly on the Shutdown game mode at the end of the round.
  • Tentative fix for an issue in Strike Team where equipment dropped in-world during a round wasn’t correctly removed in the next.
  • Fixed an issue where AI soldiers would sometimes stop moving when the AI max health was lowered through Battlefield Portal.
  • Fixed an issue where AI soldiers would take cover waiting for their health to regenerate even when health regeneration was disabled, causing them to wait there indefinitely. You know, sometimes AI doesn’t have intelligence.
  • Fixed an issue where the player option to “Always Use Traversal Sprint” would override gamemodes that have disabled the feature.

Vehicles

  • Vehicle seats without weapons will no longer display an ammo count UI indicator.
  • Active Protection System now available for the EBAA Wildcat

Dev Comment: A few updates ago we removed the ability of Irish’s APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel to intercept anti-vehicle weapons to stop exploitative behaviors that it allowed between the gadget and vehicles, with that change now live we are giving the EBAA Wildcat its own Active Protection System to allow for dynamic engagements between this vehicle and aircrafts.

MV-38 Condor

  • Reduced the transition of flight to vertical and vice versa for the MV-38 Condor.
  • The MV-38 Condor and Mi-240 Super Hind will no longer be available in Breakthrough, replaced with the UH-60.

UH-60

As part of the transition to All-Out Warfare as a Vault Drop, the UH-60 has also received a few changes below;

  • Fixed an issue with the UH-60 where systemic damage was not being applied properly to each part.
  • Fixed an issue with the UH-60 where certain EMP effects were active even if the vehicle was not under EMP situations.
  • The UH-60 is now available on all Conquest maps.
  • The UH-60 will now have two new utilities available within the Battlefield 2042 variant with the Repair System and Cyberwarfare Protection System. These utilities will not be available within the Battlefield Portal variant of the UH-60.
  • Proximity Scan range increased to 40m for the UH-60.
  • Fixed an issue with the UH-60 not showing tooltips when in first-person view.

Don’t forget, there is no new seasonal content for Battlefield 2042, as Season 7 was the last one. That said, DICE is continuing support for it with new events, items and more, which we presume will continue until we know about the next Battlefield game in development.

Black Myth Wukong Development Budget Was $70M, Planned to Be a Series Based on Chinese Mythology

Game Science’s breakout hit Black Myth Wukong oozes AAA quality, and it seems the game’s budget reflected that as well. Hero Games, the biggest external sharholder in the studio, divulged that the development cost for crafting the action game was a whopping $70 million (USD) across six years, which is an unheard of for a Chinese-developed game.

This was confirmed by Hero Games boss Daniel Wu in a recent interview with Bloomberg. Back in 2017, Wu paid 60 million yuan ($8.5 million) for Hero Games’ 20% stake in Game Science. Initially, that seemed like a bad deal given Game Science’s unsuccessful string of games (mostly for mobile). All those are in the rearview mirror now, as Wu also revealed that Black Myth Wukong has already sold 18 million copies in just its first two weeks availability — a number very, very impressive even if you compare it alongside behemoths such as Elden Ring, or even Call of Duty.

What’s next for Wukong?  While Game Science plans for it to be a “series based on Chinese mythology,” the next part of it will be DLC, though outside of that, there’s no info about it revealed just yet.

For those keeping tabs on Black Myth Wukong before it was released,  developer GameScience already mentioned that there is a chance that DLC might b in the cards for the game, and it seems the studio is following up with that after the game’s tremendous success. Given how deep the game is, I have a hunch that people who have it aren’t really fussed about pumping more cash into the game for additional content.

The latest rumor circulating around is that there are two DLCs/expansions planned for Black Myth Wukong, with a full-blown sequel lined up as well.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 – How to Beat Lictor

In Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, the Lictor is one of the first major bosses you’ll encounter. This powerful Tyranid stalks you from the shadows before launching surprise attacks. Its speed and ability to become nearly invisible make it a tough enemy to track during combat. These creatures are silent assassins of the Hive Mind, sent to hunt down and eliminate key targets like you, and they can be tricky to deal with. However, once you understand its patterns, defeating this enemy becomes easy. Here’s how to beat the Lictor boss in Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2.

How to Beat the Lictor in Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2

how to beat lictor in space marine 2

The Lictor thrives on surprise attacks, utilizing its ability to become nearly invisible. This trait makes it difficult to track, and its speed allows it to vanish and reappear within moments. Don’t be fooled—just because the Lictor disappears doesn’t mean it’s out of reach. Keep your sights trained and keep firing when possible.

Throughout the battle, the Lictor will shift between quick melee attacks and disappearing acts. Focus on dodging instead of blocking, especially when the Lictor charges at you with its red attack. If it pins you down, you’ll have to break free quickly to avoid a devastating blow.

Your best chances to damage the Lictor are after you successfully dodge or parry its strikes. After dodging, you may see a red crosshair appear on the Lictor’s head—this signals your chance to land a powerful attack. Take this opportunity whenever it appears.

If the Lictor disappears for too long, look up into the trees—he might be setting up an aerial ambush. Be ready to roll or dodge at the last moment since these attacks can’t be blocked.

Additionally, keep an eye on the surroundings for medkits and grenades. Medical supplies will restore your health, while Krak grenades deal heavy damage to the Lictor. Use Frag grenades to deal with any smaller enemies that appear to complicate the fight.

This fight requires patience. Take your time and wait for the right moments to attack. Rushing in will leave you vulnerable to the Lictor’s devastating blows. Stay mobile, dodge frequently, and chip away at its health with ranged attacks whenever you can. Make use of executions on Tyranid enemies to restore your shield or save your special attack for the Lictor

And there you have it—our complete guide to defeating Lictor in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. If you want to find the best class for your playstyle, check out our guide on Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Classes and see which one fits you best!

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Classes Guide: Which Class Is Best for You

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is out now in early access, and as always, it’s best to be well-prepared for the battles ahead. If you’re ready to jump into the action, this guide will help you pick the class that best matches your playstyle. Whether you play solo, team up with up to two friends in Operations mode, or compete against others in the 6v6 PvP mode, Eternal War, it’s essential to understand each class’s strengths.

All Classes in Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2:

When you’re playing Space Marine 2, you’ll need to choose which Space Marine class you want to play. Therefore, it’s essential to understand what each class offers and which one best suits your needs. You have six different Space Marine classes to choose from, each designed to provide a unique playstyle and strategy. These classes are:

  1. Tactical
  2. Assault
  3. Vanguard
  4. Bulwark
  5. Sniper
  6. Heavy

Each class has unique skills and weapons, allowing players to adapt to different roles on the battlefield, whether in single-player, co-op, or competitive PvP. Below, we detail the main characteristics of each class:

Tactical Class

The Tactical Class is the most versatile and balanced of all the classes. It is specifically designed for players who want to adapt to any situation on the battlefield.

Its unique ability, Auspex Scan, allows the player to detect nearby enemies and increase the damage dealt by both the player and their team. Additionally, the Tactical Class offers a wide range of weapons, including the Auto Bolt Rifle, Bolt Pistol, and Chainsword, allowing players to adjust their loadout based on the situation.

This class is ideal for those who prefer a balanced approach between offense and support.

Assault Class

The Assault Class is known for its high mobility and ability to execute rapid, devastating attacks. Equipped with a Jump Pack, Assault Marines can leap great distances and strike hard from the air, making them masters of hit-and-run tactics.

Moreover, this class specializes in melee combat and uses powerful weapons like the Chainsword and Thunder Hammer, ideal for dealing massive area-of-effect damage.

If you enjoy being in the thick of the action and constantly moving around the battlefield, the Assault Class is perfect for you.

Vanguard Class

The Vanguard Class is perfect for players who prefer an aggressive, up-close approach to combat. It excels when you are surrounded by large groups of enemies and need to carve a path for your teammates.

Its unique ability, the Grapnel Launcher, allows players to quickly close the gap to enemies or reposition themselves on the battlefield. Additionally, this class is effective with close-range weapons, such as the Instigator Bolt Carbine and Combat Knife, enabling rapid and precise enemy takedowns.

The Vanguard is ideal for those who enjoy a fast-paced, high-mobility playstyle, combining offense and quick movement to dominate the battlefield.

Bulwark Class

The Bulwark Class is known for its strong defensive abilities. Equipped with a storm shield, this class can block attacks and protect its teammates.

Its special ability, Chapter Banner, creates a barrier that restores the shields of nearby allies, making it a crucial support class in intense battles. Although the Bulwark class relies on secondary and melee weapons, such as the Power Sword and Plasma Pistol, it excels at holding the line and maintaining a strong defensive position.

The Bulwark is perfect for those who enjoy playing a supportive role.

Sniper Class

The Sniper Class specializes in long-range combat and stealth, making it ideal for covering your teammates from afar and taking out high-value targets.

Its unique ability, Camo Cloak, allows the player to temporarily become invisible, making it easier to reposition and execute surprise attacks. Equipped with weapons such as the Bolt Sniper Rifle and Las Fusil, the Sniper Class excels at eliminating key targets from a distance.

This class is ideal for players who excel at using range and stealth to control the battlefield.

Heavy Class

heavy class space marine 2

The Heavy Class is perfect for those who want a continuous fire support role, providing heavy firepower and suppressing enemies. Furthermore, you can shoot anything that moves without stopping, offering vital cover and support for your teammates.

With the Iron Halo ability, the Heavy can deploy a protective barrier that blocks incoming ranged attacks, shielding both themselves and their allies. Equipped with powerful weapons such as the Heavy Bolter, Heavy Plasma Incinerator, and Multi-Melta, this class excels at controlling large groups of enemies and providing cover from a distance.

So if you prefer a defensive role that combines heavy firepower with strong protection, the Heavy Class is perfect for you.

And there you have it—our complete guide to all the classes in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Space Marine 2 Matchmaking, Co-op, Operations, and Connection Issues Surface

Although Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 isn’t officially out until next week, early access began today for eager fans who want to get a headstart on slaying some Xenos. While many have been able to enjoy the campaign playing alone, one of the big draws of the game was being able to play with friends through the entire campaign, as well as other activities. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like everyone is experiencing a smooth release, as reports of connection, co-op, operations, and matchmaking issues have begun to surface in Space Marine 2.

Space Marine 2 Matchmaking, Co-op, Operations, and Connection Issues for September 5, 2024

If you’re one of the many who are suffering from issues in Space Marine 2, whether matchmaking, connecting to the servers, trying out co-op, or even crashing, you aren’t alone.

In fact, Focus Entertianment has even acknlowdge these issues, confirming they’re working on fixes and aims to include them in the first patch. Here’s a list of things they confirmed they’re looking into, with potential fixes to even try.

Space Marine 2 MOST COMMON ISSUES

Game Crash

Potential workaround:

  • Please deactivate overlay software (like Riva Tuner, Nvidia overlay, Afterbuner,…)

Game Crash on first cinematic
Potential workaround:

  • Please update Windows 10 – version must be above 1507
  • Verify that the game is launching on correct GPU
  • Update your GPU driver

Your controller doesn’t work with the game
Potential workaround:

  • Deactivate Steam Input to avoid the conflict with Controllers
  • Right click on game > Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Input
  • Steam doesn’t always support wireless controllers. Plug it with USB and then deactivate Steam Input to avoid the conflict with controllers.

Infinite Loading/crash when launching Operations
Potentially caused by network issues or you getting kicked by different squads.

Potential workaround:

  • Restart the game

Connectivity issues on PS5

Many players seem to have connectivity issues on PS5 especially, being unable to join other players.

There is no ETA on when we can expect these fixes to arrive, though we assume it’ll be soon, considering many paid for early access. That probably wouldn’t be a good thing to have occurring once the full release arrives next week. So expect a patch soon, hopefully during this weekend.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Review – A Keen Eye For Details

The Ace Attorney series has been in its remaster phase over the last five or so years, bringing all of the previously handheld games to most modern consoles and PC. This has been a great chance for players to catch up on the series that missed out on the earlier DS and 3DS days, while also giving us some games that Western audiences never had a chance to play in the past. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles collection finally localized two previously Japanese-exclusive entries in the series, leaving only such exclusive left at that point. While fans await a new entry in the series for the first time in a long time, Capcom has delivered what should be the last remaster collection for the series at this point, unless we get the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton crossover, with Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, including yet another game never localized outside of Japan.

Objection!

Phoenix Wright is the titular protagonist of the majority of the Ace Attorney mainline entries, except for when Apollo Justice stepped in for him. He has always served the role as defense attorney, which pitted him against rival prosecutor Miles Edgeworth in his first entry. Edgeworth made quite the impression and ended up serving as more of a friendly rival in future entries before getting his own series of games in 2009 and 2011. The first of these games, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, released for the Nintendo DS in Japan in 2009 and was subsequently localized in 2010. However, it’s sequel, Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit, was not so lucky and has been an exclusive to Japan until now.

As the original two games in this collection were on the Nintendo DS, the visuals obviously needed to be upgraded for this new collection. Just like we have seen in the other Ace Attorney collections, the visuals are very crisp and clean. The animated images of characters are very lively and add a lot of comedy and levity to the game at times. This art style carried over very well from the DS version, as it was pretty standard animation and obviously got a bit of a facelift along the way for this collection.

The biggest change though is with the new HD visuals for the character models when in the investigation segments or just showing the character models in general outside of the animated images. The DS pixel art sprites look very dated by now when upscaled to a much larger screen, which is why the game revamped these character models from the original sprites. However, those that have a love for the classic style can swap back to these from the main menu. You cannot do this mid-game, but as long as you save and return to the main menu, you can swap to the classic style sprites and reload your save and it will utilize them instead. I always love when games include features like this, but honestly I found myself using the HD visuals the majority of my playthrough.

Similarly, the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection also made some changes with the music selection in the game. From the pause menu at any time, you can swap between the default Arranged soundtrack or the Original soundtrack. Just as it sounds, the Original option includes the soundtrack just as it was on the two DS releases. The Arranged option on the other hand mixes up some of the tracks with some new orchestral arrangements that were created more recently and woven into the game’s score seamlessly.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth was Edgeworth’s first solo outing and actually did quite a good job at making it feel different enough from the other entries in the series up to that point, while also still having many familiar elements. As a prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth steps out of the courtroom and as the title indicates, investigates each crime. Finding evidence is always a part of the Ace Attorney series, but here it is even more vital. The basic gameplay structure across each of the episodes in both games is that you take on a new case, while still having an overarching story, where you must find evidence and interrogate suspects or witnesses out in the field for information. Gone is the courtroom and now you take the investigations on the road to wherever the case takes you.

Each episode is split into sections, some of which are dialogue only where you get to make dialogue options and even interrogate people’s rebuttal statements, alibi statements, and more. As always, the key is to find contradictions in their statements by pressing for more information and then presenting evidence that contradicts said statement. The various evidence can be found in a few different ways as well. One way it’s given to you is just as part of the introduction of the case or occasionally at other points, but the other two methods are much more important.

The first way is through the true investigation sections where you get to move Edgeworth around in the crime scene area provided and click on interactive objects or people. Sometimes these interactive spots provide you with nothing, sometimes they give you evidence, while other times they open up further and let you investigate more. When the latter happens, you can often find other interesting things to interact with, including dead bodies and other evidence that is left behind. I really did enjoy playing through these investigation sections, though I do wish there was a little more to find sometimes.

Then comes the new way to get evidence, through logic. By bringing up your Logic menu, you will have certain pieces of information that you’ve collected in your investigation that don’t quite help on their own. This is where you must select two of these puzzle pieces and connect them together to unlock additional evidence. The puzzle piece aesthetic is simply superficial, as there is no way to tell if evidence is connected until you try it. There are some of these are that are very obvious, while some require some thinking to see why they would be connected. You have to be careful though, as connecting the wrong pieces will hurt your Truth Gauge, just like with any other incorrect deductions in the game.

Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit maintains the same gameplay system as the first game, while also adding in a new mechanic known as Mind Chess, where Edgeworth tries to catch the opponent in checkmate during an interrogation. This varies from the usual cross-examination style system pulled from other games, as here the goal is to take out the person you are interrogating’s chess pieces. This is done by either going on the offensive with certain dialogue choices or choosing to bide your time when they opposition is on the offensive, often letting them play right into your hands. By getting clues through these discussions, you can knock out their chess pieces and eventually reach checkmate against them. I did quite enjoy this addition in the sequel, though like a lot of the rest of the game, it’s definitely a lot of trial and error at times.

Compared to many of the other Ace Attorney games, this collection was my first time playing not only the previously un-localized sequel, but also the first game. As my first playthrough of both, I greatly enjoyed the story of both entries. While it wasn’t on the level of The Great Ace Attorney series narratively, which I still think may have the best story in the franchise, I really had a good time with both games in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth takes place between the third and fourth games in the Ace Attorney series, bringing in familiar characters such as Detective Gumshoe. The game starts with Miles Edgeworth returning back to his office from a work trip to find a dead body in his office while also being threatened by an armed gunman in the darkness that quickly makes their escape. This quickly thrusts Edgeworth into investigating this case. Like most games, the cases themselves are typically self-contained with an overarching story that manages to connect them and that is no different here. The main story in the first game is quite entertaining, as Edgeworth ends up going after a mysterious smuggling ring and also introduces a thief character that plays majorly in the second game named Kay Faraday.

The second game picks up only a week or so after the first game and  returns Miles Edgeworth and both Dick Gumshoe and Kay Faraday in major roles in a story that starts with an attempted assassination of Zheng Fa’s president. Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit features not only dangerous cases and enemies for Edgeworth to go against in his investigations, but also has an antagonist rival in Judge Verity Gavelle. Gavelle is going after prosecutors that are corrupt and Edgeworth ends up getting right in her crosshairs regardless of his allegiance to the law. I thought the story in the first game was quite good, but the narrative of the sequel really elevated things and is now one of my very favorites in the series.

There are some people that would love to just experience the story of the Ace Attorney series but without the rigmarole of having to present evidence and really play the game itself. For this reason, Capcom included in past collections an option for what is known as simply Story Mode and it is back once again. This can be selected from the options menu and basically puts the game on auto-pilot for those that would prefer to play that way. I’m of the mindset that I want to play the full experience for the game, but it’s still a great addition to make the series more accessible to others since the stories are always very enjoyable.

One aspect of the collection that I am not a fan of is that the two games feature a shared save state system. This means you could accidentally overwrite your save from Ace Attorney Investigations while trying to save your game in Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Considering there is no crossover between the two games, there is zero reason the save system should have been shared between the two to allow for this to potentially happen.

Besides the two games in the collection, the only other feature is the Gallery. The Accolades section serves as an internal achievement system that correlates with the actual achievement/trophy systems on platforms that support them. As you play through both games, you will unlock in-game illustrations that are viewable via the Photo Album and character bios that are viewable within the Character Compendium. The Documentation section is quite neat, as it includes in-progress character art designs and some special artwork as well. Lastly, the Gallery has a Music Collection section as always for you to listen to all of the tracks across both games, including the aforementioned orchestral arrangements.

Verdict

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection may only have two entries in it compared to three in most of the other collections, but the two games included are well worth it by themselves. Not only do the two Investigations games have compelling stories and cases within it, but they also have arguably the best gameplay in the entire series. While the courtroom structure of the mainline games is also great, both Ace Attorney Investigations 1 and 2 were so refreshing for their mix of in-the-field investigations and interrogations with people. The only downside is that it can start to feel a bit like trial and error with presenting evidence, but that is something you come to expect with the Ace Attorney series. Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is a must play for fans of the series, especially with the second game never being localized before, but it also is a great starting point for people who have never played an Ace Attorney game due to the standalone nature of the two included entries.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • Compelling stories in both games
  • Option for modern visuals or pixel art
  • Investigations are refreshing change for the series
  • Brings a previously non-localized game to the US

Cons:

  • Sometimes feels like too much trial and error
  • Shared save system could cause problems
