Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Final Hands-On

Yakuza Kiwami 3, the remake of Yakuza 3, and Yakuza Dark Ties, a new included side story revolving around Yakuza 3’s protagonist, Yoshitaka Mine, are set to launch in a couple of weeks. Although we recently went hands-on with it a few weeks ago, we can confirm that we’ve been playing through the review build of the game.

We’ll have our full review ready for embargo day, but for now, here’s a taste of what you can expect out of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties.

This final preview is spoiler-free

Yakuza 3 Remake Brings Out a New Side of Kiryu and Mine

There’s much to look forward to with Yakuza Kiwami 3, the remake of Yakuza 3, with modernized visuals running on the Dragon Engine, improved combat, and a bounty of new content. Though many would arguably call it the black sheep of the franchise, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG) sets its sights on changing that with this new reimaging of the 2009 classic, by offering some pretty big new additions that weren’t in the original, while also delivering a brand-new experience to help fill in the narrative gaps surrounding Yoshitaka Mine’s tragic story.

So what are these new experiences? Well, for Yakuza Kiwami 3, there are two new major additions: Life at Morning Glory and Bad Boy Dragon. These aren’t just some new form of mini-games, as both activities have a story for you to play through. For Bad Boy Dragon, you enlist as a leader of a local biker gang called the Haisai Girls gang, who have a mission to protect the residents of Okinawa from rival biker gangs. Scattered around Okinawa are potential members that you can enlist, all of whom have had unfortunate encounters with hostile gangs.

Once you’ve gotten enough members for your gang, you can participate in massive rumbles where you quite literally ride a motorcycle and storm a rival gang’s base with other members of your gang. It’s pretty cool to watch unfold, and even more fun to experience these large brawls. There’s a progression system, upgrades, and other unique features to the mode, and as I mentioned, even a story.

Then there’s Life at Morning Glory. Life at Morning Glory focuses entirely on the orphanage that we see throughout the Yakuza franchise. For me, this is probably the best new addition, not just to Yakuza 3 but to the franchise as a whole. Sure, it’s a collection of mini-games that can eventually get repetitive, but this new activity offers a real look at what we, as players, have been protecting throughout the franchise.

Aced my math test

Like Bad Boy Dragon, there’s a whole story you can progress through, with the focus all being about Kiryu’s relationship with the kids. As you spend more time with them, progressing and completing objectives and mini-games, Kiryu’s Daddy Rank increases, as well as his bond with each child. Eventually, you’ll unlock short cutscenes with each kid that further expand on the game’s lore, and of course, Kiryu’s relation with them.

This activity steps back from the action and lets you really enjoy a slice of life that Kiryu has come to cherish. For me, it’s always been one of the franchise’s most important aspects, but it never really gets explored. Given how central the orphanage is to the story of Kiwami 3, I’m glad to see RGG expand it and offer perhaps one of the most meaningful experiences in the game. It’s definitely something I don’t recommend skipping out, especially for those who played Infinite Wealth and wanted more heart-tugging moments. In retrospect, it makes that side of Infinite Wealth even more impactful as you grow your bond with each kid in Kiwami 3.

There are quite a few good laughs to be had here, too.

You can’t be a Yakuza without breaking a few eggs

Elsewhere, you have your usual sub-stories populated around the world, along with some new mini-games and retro-video games to play when you want to take a break from beating up thugs on the street.

Dark Ties, the new spin-off game (included with Kiwami 3), also features two exclusive activities: “Hell’s Arena” and “Kanda Damage Control.”

In Hell’s Arena, you fight your way through a dungeon-like maze, beating up fierce opponents. It’s essentially a survival mode, and your goal is to make it through the maze, reach the end, and take down the big boss of the arena.

Then there’s Kanda Damage Control. Here you go around the city, helping people with whatever tasks they have (known as Good Deeds and Helping the Little People) in order to improve Kanda’s public reputation. Of course, Kanda won’t actually be doing any of the good deeds himself, as he’s too busy hitting up all the soaplands with his newfound wealth of money and respect (all of which, thanks to Mine).

Good Deeds are comparable to sub-stories from the main game, each with its own little story to tell. Helping the Little People are short tasks, usually involving you delivering a requested item, beating up some people, or hitting a specific milestone in a mini-game, like darts, and getting three bullseyes in a single game.

He’s gonna slap me later for this

In a lot of ways, Kanda Damage Control is to Mine what Life at Morning Glory is to Kiryu. It’s an experience (well, it’s a lot of the progression for Dark Ties) that’s meant to bring out a side of the character we’ve yet to see. Of course, Dark Ties’ story in general was designed for that very reason, but Kanda Damage Control really leans into one aspect of the plot of the game that helps build it up even more. It’s funny because Mine, as a character, wasn’t really in Yakuza 3 much, which remains the case in Kiwami 3. But his brief moments were all that were needed for him to become a fan favorite; it’s just that many wished he had more character development.

Dark Ties addresses that, and I think a lot of fans are going to be happy with how his story and the relationship he forms in this new adventure. It’s a side of Mine we all wished we got to see, and RGG delivers it in their usual high-stakes drama, filled with laughs and emotional moments that hit surprisingly hard.

Heart of a Dragon

For those who played through the demo, I wanted to point out that the actual game isn’t as easy as it is in the demo. I think the demo gave us too much of a mid-point in terms of stats, even though it isn’t very far into the game. Kiryu, in my opinion, is severely overpowered, and the demo doesn’t do the game justice by showing how challenging it can be.

Granted, I’m not some S-tier player who’s juggling their enemies around like they’re nothing, but the base game did feel a lot more challenging than the demo did, to the point that I found myself struggling even with some of the grunt enemies at times. I want to say they made the demo journalist-level easy, given how leveled-up Kiryu was.

There’s more of a challenge in the actual game, with enemies blocking more frequently than in the demo. No, Blockuza 3 is not back, unless you really want it to be by ignoring all the mechanics to combat it. Enemies block a lot, but it’s so easy to counter them with Kiryu’s revamped Dragon of Dojima fighting style, and the new one, Ryukyu style, that it’s a non-issue.

The combat is a massive improvement over Yakuza 3’s, as it’s faster, more fluid, and has greater impact with each strike.

Now, will it revolutionize the franchise by setting a new status quo for its brawling action? No, but I’m a simple man. You give me a Yakuza game, and some people to beat up, and I’m a happy man. Could it be better? Definitely, but in the end, it’s still a fun way to experience Yakuza 3.

For Dark Ties, we get to play as Mine, who has his own fighting style. In many ways, it reminds me of a mix of Kiryu’s and Majima’s fighting styles from Yakuza 0, as he’s both hard-hitting and moves quickly. He’s even capable of jumping off enemies to fly through the air and strike another. Upgrading his abilities does improve his moveset, though I do wish we could get more varied combos, and that he could pick up objects off the ground to use as weapons. That latter to me is such an odd omission.

He also has a devil trigger called Dark Awakening, which puts him into a state where his damage is upped, and he can unleash even more attacks.

Overall, Mine plays very well, though I do wish he had more depth to his combat.

We’re in This Together, Aniki

As I continue to make progress through the main game and Dark Ties, I feel pretty good about the remake so far. Don’t get me wrong, there are some issues, such as the visual lighting in some places, new character models/casting, and some of the English dubbing (and not to mention delisting the original Yakuza 3), which we’ll touch on more in our review before release.

But overall, I do like what RGG Studios has built here with both Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, and I think fans are going to be pleasently surprised by the new content. Let’s just hope the rest of the game holds up, but so far, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties are looking like some must-play Yakuza experiences for both new players and old-time fans.

ARC Raiders Follow-up Update 1.000.020 Resolves Headwinds Issues

Following yesterday’s release of the Headwinds content drop for ARC Raiders, Embark saw a slew of unintended issues across all platforms that needed to be addressed ASAP.

With that in mind, the dev has now rolled out ARC Raiders update 1.000.020, and this is a follow-up patch that addresses some gameplay and tech-related issues.

Read on for the official patch notes straight from Embark.

ARC Raiders Headwinds Hotfix Released on January 28

arc raiders update 1.000.017

Note that the Xbox patch has been delayed, and during this time, Xbox players will not be able to crossplay against PC and PS5 players.

  • Fixed an issue that caused unintended fire rate changes to several weapons.

Dev Note: Following yesterday’s update, some weapons were affected by a bug that reduced their rate of fire. This was not an intentional change. We always aim to include all changes in our patch notes, and we appreciate you flagging this quickly.

  • Fixed an issue where some cosmetics available through Raider Tokens were missing from the customization menu if they hadn’t been purchased yet.
  • Fixed an issue where parts of the Ukrainian localization unintentionally appeared in the game.

Dev Note: We’re actively working on a full Ukrainian translation among other languages for ARC Raiders and will release once they are ready.

  • We have heard you wondering about the loot appearing too slowly. We have rebalanced the speed at which the first item appears when looting. The looting speed before 1.13.0 was unintended. Players with the Looter’s Instincts unlocked will still see loot faster than those without.

Don’t be surprised if we see another patch drop next week to address more issues. Speaking of which, the game’s servers have been acting up since yesterday, and we’re hoping it gets resolved soon.

PS4 Update 13.04 Released on January 28

While the PS4 might be in its teens already, Sony isn’t done supporting the console just yet, as PS4 update 13.04 is available for download today, January 28.

Given the console’s lifecycle, don’t expect anything major from it, as this is another security patch.

PS4 Receives First System Update of 2026 as Version 13.04

Sony mentions the following as what got changed for the PS4 with today’s update:

Version: 13.04

  • We’ve made some security fixes to the system software.

That’s about it. While it doesn’t go into specifics, these security patches are usually aimed at homebrew and piracy countermeasures. More often than not, these are released to plug a hole that allowed a program to run unlicensed software or counterfeit games.

Aside from the PS4, the PS5 also received a system update today, and this one actually adds new features.

Don’t expect another PS4 update anytime soon unless it’s for another security patch. Once there is one pushed out, we’ll have it up on the site.

PS5 First System Update for 2026 Adds New Features via Version 26.01-12.60.00.06

Sony has released the first system update for the PS5 in 2026, and this isn’t your usual stability update, as this actually adds new features to the console. Console owners will see the download appear as PS5 update 26.01-12.60.00.06, and this further enhances the quality-of-life experience to the Welcome Hub and more.

Clocking in at just 1.3 GB, the file download is available now worldwide, and we have the complete patch notes available below.

PS5 Update 26.01-12.60.00.06 Available for Download on January 28

PS5 japan

Here’s everything new according to Sony:

  • You can now jump directly from the Friends Activity widget in your Welcome Hub to the games your friends are playing.
  • You can now turn on read receipts to show other players when you’ve read their messages.
    • To turn on your read receipts, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customize Your Privacy Settings. Under Communication and multiplayer, set Show read receipts to other players on PS5 and PlayStation App to Allow.
    • This feature will be rolled out gradually, and some users will be able to use it when the system software update is released.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.

This is surprising to see, as I assumed the first console patch would be one solely for stability. Chances are, Sony will be talking about upcoming new features headed to the PS5 soon, and once we know more, we’ll let our readers know.

In other PlayStation news, the first PSN Store sale of the year is still live, and we have the important discounts in it curated in a handy list.

ARC Raiders Down on January 27, as Servers Experiencing Issues (Update)

Before the night is done, it seems raiders are having issues connecting or finding matches in ARC Raiders. The hit extraction game is down for players on all platforms, and this affects not only matchmaking but also logging in to the game’s world too.

Read on for more info on what’s happening to the ARC Raiders servers below.

ARC Raiders Servers Experiencing Issues on January 27 (Jan. 28 for Outside the US)

Update (January 28 at 2 am ET): While the servers issues were sorted out initially, it seems things are acting up again based on the community reaction.

Embark has acknowledged that the servers are once again instability issues, and are looking into it now. We’ll update the article with more info once we know more.

Reports have surfaced on Downdetector as well as the game’s community that ARC Raiders servers are having issues. From our understanding, this is affecting all platforms and is a worldwide issue.

Embark has acknowledged the outage and posted the following message, “Hi Raiders! As of January 28, 2026 10:20 AM we’ve received reports of server instability and lags. The team is currently looking into them so we recommend not logging in until further notice to avoid losing your items or progressions.”

This is very bad timing, given that the game’s latest major update, Headwinds, was just released earlier today. Check out the info breakdown and patch notes to see what got added.

Once we know more about the server situation, we’ll update the article. In the meantime, go check out the game’s Q1 roadmap to see what’s in store for raiders up to April.

ARC Raiders Version 1.13.0 Release on January 27 for Headwinds via Patch 1.000.019

As expected, Embark Studios has released ARC Raiders‘ Headwinds, which is the game’s first major update of the year. While the developers call this patch version 1.13.0, console gamers will see this as ARC Raiders update 1.000.019.

The major additions include a new matchmaking option, new map condition and more.

For the complete details, read on for the patch notes.

ARC Raiders Headwinds Update Patch Notes Detail What’s New in Version 1.000.019

What’s New?

  • Solo vs Squads
    • Solo vs Squads is a new matchmaking option for our experienced and highly skilled players who enjoy the PvP aspect of the game. Solo Raiders level 40 and above will get the “Solo vs Squad” toggle above matchmaking to join the Squads queue and tackle squads of Raiders head-on. When opting in, players will receive +20% bonus XP at the end of the round on both successful extract, and defeat.
  • Trophy Display
    • A new long-term project which requires players to hunt increasingly dangerous groups of ARC to submit their parts for rewards. Raiders will be able to build a new Display Case over 5 different steps (same as for the Candleberry Project) and each level will add a new item to the Display Case.
    • The rewards for completing each step include blueprints as well as Raider Tokens, and full completion also brings additional rewards including a Howl emote, a guitar and 300,000 Coins. There is currently no fixed end date and it will not be impacted by Expedition resets.
  • Bird City
    • Flocks of birds have moved into Buried City, building nests in the empty chimneys. We got some reports of them storing shiny trinkets inside so make sure to inspect them. This new permanent map condition will be applied to the Buried City map only which will cycle in and out of rotation weekly. There will be more bird traps and ziplines present on the map. Raiders can expect more combat in, on, or around the rooftops, including more flying ARC, and more players in proximity.
  • New Items
    • 2 new types of Epic Augments
  • 7 New Quests

Patch Highlights

  • Open Parties
    • The option to set your party to open so your Embark and platform friends can join you seamlessly (even when you’re in round to wait in the lobby to join your next match).
  • Squad Invites
    • Added the option for squadmates to invite others to the party as well as the party leader.
  • Achievement fixes.
  • Stella Montis Seed Vault extract fix.
  • Mouse smoothing option added.
  • Gamepad rebinding.

  • Fixed issue causing progress towards Enemy of my Enemy achievement to not get tracked.
  • Fixed issue causing Hook, Line, and Sinker achievement to not track correctly.

ARC

  • ARC traversing obstacles has been improved.
  • Leaper
    • Leaper is now better at walking when it loses its legs.
  • Shredder
    • Dead Shredders are now properly labelled as scavengeable when pinged.
  • Snitch
    • Fixed an issue where Snitches would abort calling down ARC if players threw a Lure Grenade during the call.
    • Snitches will no longer make noise after they are destroyed.
  • Spotter
    • Fixed an issue where Spotters would follow players into buildings and get stuck.
  • Tick
    • When grabbed by the Tick, players will now have a brief window of time where they can dodge-roll to remove the Tick.

  • Fixed an issue where emotes were missing voice lines in the store and customization preview.
  • Fixed voice chat cutting in some cases.

Maps

  • General
    • The types of containers that can spawn condition specific blueprints have been lowered during Electromagnetic Storm, Hidden Bunker, and Locked Gate.
    • Raised the chances of finding higher tier weapons in weapon cases.

Highguard’s First Update Released a Day After Release as Patch 1.002

Wildlight Entertainment has pushed out te first client-side update for free-to-play shooter, Highguard, and given it was released a day after launch, don’t expect it to include any balance changes.

Console gamers will see the download as Highguard update 1.002 (complete version 1.002.000), and this is a small download that focuses on technical issues more than anything else.

Highguard Receives First Client Update on January 27

Highguard download

According to Wildlight Entertainment, they have pushed out “a client update for all platforms to address various stability issues.” While not a major update, this is still something the game needs, as console and PC players have reported a ton of crashing issues and the game has issues running.

Those on PC, unfortunately, this patch is a big one, as players are saying that it’s 18 GB, which is insane for a stability update.

The developers added that they are investigating issues and expect to roll out more patches throughout the week.

If you’re still on the fence whether to try it, it’s free-to-play! Here’s a brief rundown of the game’s features to know what you’re getting into:

  • Teams of three select a unique base and fortify their defenses, then ride out across vast, uncharted lands to loot, harvest resources, and upgrade their gear while clashing with a rival Warden crew.
  • As magical storms roll in, teams battle over the Shieldbreaker, a powerful sword required to breach enemy defenses. Carrying the Shieldbreaker to the opposing base triggers a full raid—forcing teams to attack, defend, adapt, and escalate in power as the match continues.
  • Most of the time, victory doesn’t come with a single raid. When that happens, the enemy base shields repair, the siege tower dissipates, and the fight escalates as loot, gear, and weapons all upgrade in the field, and a new Shieldbreaker forms in a different location in the world. From there, the fight for control continues—until only one base is left standing.

Once the next update is released, we’ll let our readers know.

Dispatch New Update 1.000.010 Released as January 2026 Patch

AdHoc Studios has released the first patch for Dispatch for 2026, and this is a bigger-than-expected download — at least on consoles. Don’t expect any new content from this, as this is purely for bug fixes.

For console gamers, you’ll see the download appear as Dispatch update 1.000.010, and this clocks in at around 3.2 GB.

Read on for the known issues and info regarding the update.

Dispatch January 2026 Update Released as Version 1.000.010

  • Fix for “Air Team Rescue” scenario in the second shift of Episode 5 to no longer prevent the flight enabled heroes from being dispatchable. Also fixed issue where this scenario would not appear

So far, AdHoc has not said anything about the patch. However, there are a few known issues affecting the PC and console versions, which we’re hoping the patch sorts out.

  • Episode 8 second dispatch [hase, travelling icons sometimes get bugged
  • H4ck3d by R0b3rt mission trophy bugged
  • Screen artifacts visual glitch
  • Progression blockers in Episode 1 that were claimed to be fixed “where players were not receiving calls after the initial introduction by Phenomaman and players were not able to continue after resolving the tutorial boxes quickly,” is not working for everyone
  • Green and yellow color issue
  • Episode 5 generator hacking mini game glitch when it comes to the last step that prevents progress
  • Audio is always a few frames late. Tried pausing and rebooting but it doesn’t catch up. I played some videos of Dispatch from Youtube and they’re in perfect sync so I know its not just my computer or how the scene was intended
  • On ep3 I ran out of time to spend points before the shift ended – now every time I earn points it says I have spare points to on the sidebar, but when I open it up I only get to spend the points for the points earned the mission. I’m up to ep5 now and it still knows I have points in limbo but you can’t claim them
  • Had an issue in ep5 with the helicopter/plane crash. It wouldn’t let me send anyone on my flying team (eg. Coupe) and when I went to the “catch on the ground option” it would only let me send Punch Up despite having several other people available. (Punch Up did not single-handedly catch a chopper)
  • Audio and sound glitching out
  • Episode 8 mission not completing properly
  • Unable to unpause the game on PC, and even hiting Esc or Resume doesn’t work
  • Chapter 5 “Performance Review” page had no “Enter” option, so it was frozen.
  • Cutscenes stuttering

As for the fixes implemented, the latest patch notes released was in December, which housed the following fixes:

  • Fixed softlock when pausing during the completion of a hacking level
  • Fixes for incorrect hero power behaviors includingWaterboy “Eager Sponge” auto assign, Punch Up “Squeeze In”, Invisigal’s “Ear on the Ground”, and Prism’s “Doppelganger Illusion”
  • Fixes for softlock behaviors in episode 8 gameplay shifts including heroes in perpetual waiting status and inability to interact with the convoy
  • Fix for hero injury and hero down behavior in episode 8 gameplay shifts
  • Fix for UI in hacking levels in episode 8 gameplay shifts
  • Fix issue to heroes being assignable in waiting mode
  • Improvements to analytics performance
  • Minor audio, visual, subtitle and localization fixes across the season

If AdHoc releases a proper changelog, expect the article to be updated.
