The Simpsons: Hit & Run Devs Don’t Understand Why the Game Never Got a Sequel

The Simpsons: Hit & Run is one of the most simply entertaining games on the sixth generation of consoles. In fact, it’s so well-loved that one fan even remade the entire game in Unreal Engine. If the fact that The Simpsons: Hit & Run sequel never came to fruition is confusing to you, that’s reasonable: the devs don’t get it either.

In an interview with MinnMax yesterday, several members of the development team for The Simpsons: Hit & Run got together to talk about the game’s development. The entire interview is an hour long, but MinnMax cut out a three-minute clip where the devs discuss why the game didn’t get a follow-up.

In the interview, Executive Producer John Melchior explains exactly how the sequel became dead in the water:

Melchior: The biggest crime was that [Vivendi Games] did not obtain The Simpsons license when they had an offer in. So, The Simpsons came back with an offer for five games for X amount of dollars. It was a really good deal, and Vivendi said no. AFTER the success of Hit & Run.

Ben Hanson (MinnMax): And what was the logic there?

Melchior: I don’t know. They did Cold Winter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer…. And to everybody’s credit here, the sequel was like, we had airships, we had trains, we had lots to go on The Simpsons. This was going to be a franchise, no doubt in anybody’s mind…. But yeah, it was sad because we had a ton of momentum. There was no momentum loss between the shipping of this game and the work being done on the sequel.

Melchior also discussed how the production team felt about the decision:

It was a five-game deal for less than I think Vivendi paid for the first game. Like, really cheap because they were really happy. I remember getting that all like, ‘Yeah, we decided to pass.’ I’m like, ‘Pass on what game?’ They’re like ‘The Simpsons license.’ I remember Steve Bersch… he was our boss at Fox… he was like, ‘I don’t understand. I gave it to you on a silver platter. Why aren’t you just saying yes and doing these games?’ It was a really bizarre decision. I’ll never understand it. Most people on the production level never understood it.

Perhaps if there’s enough fans pushing for it, we might get a sequel someday. For now, however, it looks like The Simpsons: Hit & Run sequel is lost to time.

If you’d like to watch the clip yourself, you can do so below:

Former Halo 2 Lead Designer Weighs in on Call of Duty SBMM

Here’s something you might not have known, and that is Halo 2 and 3 both featured SBMM (skilled-based matchmaking) though implementation wasn’t quite as obvious as it has been recently in other franchises. This was revealed by the former lead designer of both games, chiming into the whole SBMM debate that has surfaced yet again with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and even going so far as saying the system discriminates by opposing restrictions on high-skilled players.

In a lengthy X thread, Former Halo 2 and 3 Lead Designer and current Founder and CEO of Certain Affinity, Max Hoberman, opened up about SBMM in the Halo games, explaining how he tried to balance it out to promote fun, and ensured certain systems weren’t in place for unranked modes.

What I implemented cleanly divided the space into Ranked and Unranked matchmaking playlists. Ranked filtered opponents based on level. This was for when you wanted a competitive match – but even then, I intentionally allowed variability in the range of levels we matched you with.

This variability was a topic of hot debate internally, during development, 20 years ago. Obviously no one wants to get stomped continuously. On the flip side, it gets dull (for most people) continuously stomping others. However, it IS fun having the upper hand some of the time.

By intentionally allowing a range of skills to match together, we provided 3 experiences in ranked matchmaking: an easier one where you can kick butt, a harder one where you’re likely outmatched, and an evenly matched one. My theory was that a good mix of these three was ideal.

He goes on to explain why they didn’t just always evenly match player skills, citing that these would always produce the most stressful of matches.

The failure of modern skill-based matchmaking, imho, is that it’s designed to maximize these perfect match scenarios and minimize the others. When it’s working, a majority of games become super tight, super stressful. That’s not fun for most players. Where’s the variability?

The system that I designed for Ranked playlists ensured a healthy mix. Sure, it sucks watching your favorite team get their butt kicked. But it comes full circle when they’re the ones kicking butt. Throw in tight, evenly matched games every so often, and that’s a ton of fun.

I haven’t even gotten to Unranked playlists yet. I designed these to NOT factor in skill/level in the search for opponents. Yes, our engineers utilized the same codebase and kept skill/level as a search criteria, but we substantially de-prioritized it in matchmaking.

We also didn’t track skill/level globally, only per-playlist. The net result was that Unranked matchmaking allowed a very wide range of skill levels to match together for what everyone agreed was casual, inconsequential fun. Again, that’s the way it should be, in my opinion.

Hoberman closes off by touching upon forced long wait times for high skilled players, calling it a form of discrimination and that devs shouldn’t take the easy way out.

Segregating high skill players from the population at large, forcing long wait times on them, is a form of discrimination. Designers should strive to find a way that players of all skill levels can have fun together. Casual, inconsequential Unranked matchmaking is one way.

I dabbled with handicap settings and asymmetric game mode design as others. Game devs shouldn’t take the easy way out and default to segregation though, there’s far more that can be done. Derogatory views like this, among game devs, is a cop out – and a disservice to players.
It’s not often a dev will divulge the specifics of their matchmaking system when it comes to SBMM, but this has certainly provided a wonderful insight to many in the gaming community. We may still not understand exactly how the SBMM (or whatever system it uses) works in Call of Duty, as the developers have continued to ignore any acknowledgment of it, but we do know that it very much does exist.

How Sledgehammer plans to address it if at all, will remain to be seen, though with more and more pressure mounting, we’re hoping some form of acknowledgment is made sometime soon. For now, you’ll just have to keep dealing with the inconsistent system, fighting it out with sweats every so match.

Lords of the Fallen Update 1.019 for Version 1.1.348 Adds The Way of the Bucket Content and More

Lords of the Fallen update 1.019 on all platforms this November 21, and this is for patch version 1.1.348. Players will get a new questline event in “The Way of the Bucket,” Umbrial ending fix and loads more! Read on for the official LOTF update 1.1.348 patch notes and new content below.

Lords of the Fallen Update 1.019 Patch Notes | LOTF Update 1.1.348 Patch Notes | LOTF Way of the Bucket Content:

Size: 853MB (PS5)

The Way of the Bucket: An ancient martial art? An extraordinary, time-honoured ritual? Or just one man’s unprecedented commitment to the humble receptacle?

Today’s update, released ahead of our usual cadence, answers this question and more, with headline features including:

  • New Questline Event: The Way of the Bucket
  • New Spells Pack #1
  • Fall prevention when attacking
  • Improved matchmaking
  • Umbral ending fix
The Way of the Bucket

Similar to our Hallowen Event – ‘Season of the Bleak’ – today’s update brings with it ‘The Way of the Bucket’, a new and mysterious questline which upon completion, grants a reward of truly indeterminate value.

Seek guidance in the words below…

When time came to do or die, they emerged from their throes,
With meagre improvisations, spreading such desperate blows.
Should you as well seek meaning in these humble souls’ disguise,
Don makeshift twin attire and find the one that lies.
Salute, attest and once more show honour to their semblance,
And you’ll amass the sincere gifts of one held in remembrance.
Yet hoard not without measure, show mutual regard,
For greed amongst the downtrodden is seen as truly marred.
New Spells

Embrace the array of new spells now accessible across the three magical schools. You have the opportunity to acquire them by defeating their wielders.

Vortex of Torment

Summon a Radiant cyclone which inflicts physical damage and bleed buildup.

The Tolling

Unleash a wave of Radiant magic which inflicts holy damage and is capable of knocking down enemies.

Blistering Salvo

Unleash a volley of infernal darts which inflict physical damage and burn buildup.

Rising Fire

Summon several orbs of fire which explode following a short delay, inflicting fire damage and ignite buildup.

Pallid Bile

Unleash a torrent of Umbral magic, inflicting wither damage and poison buildup.

Septic Heave

Hurl several putrid orbs which inflict physical damage and poison buildup.

Please note that these spells will not count towards the Radiant, Inferno, or Umbral Adept Achievements.
Core Gameplay Improvement

With this patch if you begin an attack animation away from a ledge, you will no longer fall off if the attack animation draws you to the edge of said platform. However, if you start the attack animation when already standing at the edge, you will fall.

Improved Matchmaking

We’ve updated the matchmaking selection process, giving priority to ping while also performing additional checks on the connection at both ends. This may slightly increase matchmaking time, but it ensures a higher quality connection.

Umbral Ending

For players who previously encountered an issue with the Umbral ending, preventing them from completing the game, we have more positive news this week. We’ve implemented an additional check to address another edge case, allowing you to proceed after being blocked. So now, when you load the game, you should be able to directly access the ending.

We appreciate Fionn for sharing his save, to help identify and resolve this matter.. While we believe all outstanding issues have now been addressed, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team at support@cigames.com with your save information if you encounter any further problems.

Performance
  • Added additional precalculated PSOs to further reduce micro-stuttering throughout the game world.

  • Second pass to reduce the number of actors casting shadows (small objects and minor details) in the Tower of Penance. No loss in quality.
AI

  • Linked the Ruiner to a leashing volume to prevent him from leaving the intended encounter area in Lower Calrath.
  • Added additional collisions for enemies spawning on the floor of Skyrest Bridge.
  • Filled a missing navmesh hole in one spot of Pilgrim’s Perch to improve AI navigation.
  • Fixed an AI that was not following its patrol in the Manse of the Hallowed Brothers.

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition Announced; Launches December 5 With Phantom Liberty Included

CD Projekt Red isn’t entirely done with Cyberpunk 2077 yet, as the studio has announced it will get an all-new edition ahead of Christmas. Dubbed Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, this new game version will be released digitally and physically and have all pieces of content, including Phantom Liberty, wrapped in a single package.

As announced on X, the new Ultimate Edition will include every major update, including Phantom Liberty and its 2.0 update. There’s no news on pricing, though based on the PlayStation store bundling of the base game and expansion, it’ll likely cost the full $70. This version of the game will be available in digital and physical formats for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Since the expansion was never released on last-gen, this game version is current-gen only.

There’s no word on whether it will feature its own achievement list, much like The Witcher 3 Complete Edition does separately from the original release. Additionally, while all versions are getting a physical version, only the Xbox version will have everything on the disc, whilst PS5 and PC will come with a downloading code for Phantom Liberty as clarified by CD Projekt Red’s Global Community Director, Marcin Momot.

This is a surprise, as Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update launched just a few months ago. A physical re-release with everything included wasn’t on the radar of most, and certainly not this soon. Given that Christmas is next month, we aren’t surprised that the studio is pushing for more sales, though from launch week numbers, Phantom Liberty was already proving to be a big success

If you haven’t jumped into Cyberpunk 2077, the Ultimate Edition may be the perfect way of doing so, especially seeing that update 2.0 has overhauled even the base experience. So much so that I considered it, and Phantom Liberty is one of the best gaming experiences this year in our Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty review. Just something to ponder about if you’re on the fence still.

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition launches December 5 for PC, PS5, and XBox Series X|S.

Those are the major features included in today’s update, with Paradox also giving an update on when to expect the rest of Expansion Six DLC.

First Contact Story Pack (Late-2024): You are not alone! The galaxy is vast and full of wonders, but it’s also full of alien empires you’re going to encounter, whether you’re ready or not.

Features:

  • New Origins
    • Broken Shackles: You didn’t take to the stars; you were taken to the stars as an alien captive! Now, you and your fellow prisoners have overtaken the ship and found yourselves banding together to survive and thrive as a diverse new community. Can you rise to greatness from this humble origin… and will your former captors take notice?
    • Payback: No one would have believed your world was being watched keenly by intelligences greater than your own — until they invaded. But you did not go quietly into the night! Your civilization has repelled a would-be conqueror from space, and with sudden access to their advanced technology, you’re about to discover just what else is out there beyond the stars!
    • Fear of the Dark: As you’ve explored your home system, you’ve always suspected you weren’t alone in the galaxy… especially when one of your planets suddenly suffered an “incident” a while back. A very large faction of your own people have long advocated against tempting fate out in the dark abyss of the unknown. What path will you choose as you find yourself needing room to grow?
  • New Pre-FTL Interaction Options: What will your role be when the next member of the galactic community tells their origin story?
    • New mechanics allow for a broader range of interactions with pre-FTL civilizations, depending on their level of technology and their awareness of your presence. Will your arrival be celebrated, or met with violent panic?
  • Cloaking Technology: Nobody saw this feature coming!
    • Equip your ships with cloaking devices to survey in secret or catch a foe unaware.
    • Keep subtle tabs on your pre-FTL neighbors with cloaked observation posts.
    • Just be sure your own scanners and intel are strong… you never know which of your neighbors might be lurking in the shadows!

Galactic Paragons First Contact Story Pack (Late-2024): Add Galactic Paragons to your empires and experience a new level of character and story as great leaders rise to positions of power and follow your lead to the stars. With exclusive additions to the all-new Council mechanic, leaders who you can shape to amplify the vision for your empire, new civics, and much more, Galactic Paragons will shape the future in ways the galaxy has never seen before.

Features:

  • New Council Mechanics: Assign leaders to vital positions and set agendas to steer your empire as you see fit. In Galactic Paragons, find dozens of unique council roles based on your civics and government types, and unlock additional positions as your empire evolves!
  • New Dynamic Leaders: Recruit, improve, and follow the leaders of your empire through the ages! You may shape them by picking their traits, selecting their veteran class, and guide them towards their destiny, up until they retire – or perish!
  • Meet Galactic Heroes: Attract paragons of renown to your council: unique leaders with their own art, events, and stories may join your empire and bring their own benefits to your government. Or, discover four Legendary Paragons with intricate event chains and unique mechanics!
  • New Traditions, Civics, and more: A new “Under One Rule” Origin that tells the tale of the leader who founded your empire. Eight new Civics focused on leadership, from immortalizing the personalities of leaders past in digital archives to heavily optimized council selection via corporate charter. 12 new Veteran Classes. Hundreds of new Leader Traits. Two new Tradition Trees, giving players new edicts and improved leaders. New ships, art, and story content

But wait, there’s more! Purchasers of Expansion Pass Six will gain access to use the C6 Portrait, the galaxy’s greatest space egg (and definitely not a fanatic purifier) to use in their games!

At the conclusion of this Expansion Pass, Stellaris: Console Edition will be updated to the equivalent of 3.9 “Caelum” on PC. Here are some of the major features you can expect during the two free updates that will happen during Expansion Pass Six:

Small dense planets will sustain more damage than large sparsely populated worlds

  • Void Dwellers can now be taken by Hiveminds
  • Hiring Leaders from Enclaves now always gives a leader, and those leaders are more powerful than before. Attacking an Enclave while you have a leader hired from that Enclave will cause that leader to leave your empire.

EA Sports PGA Tour Update 1.000.016 Swings Out for Patch 9.0

EA has released EA Sports PGA Tour update 1.000.016 today and this brings in Season 8 content to the game. This is tagged as patch 9.0 and lots of new things are coming. Read on for what’s new in the EA Sports PGA Tour November 21 patch notes.

EA Sports PGA Tour Update 1.000.016 Patch Notes |EA Sports PGA Tour Update 9.0 Patch Notes | EA Sports PGA Tour Update November 21 Patch Notes:

On November 21st, EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ will receive an update that includes a new season, a number of gameplay improvements, and game-wide bug fixes. Read on to learn about what’s coming next.

Welcome to Season 8!

The “Short” aiming arc setting has been replaced with two new options: “Long” and “Tour”. “Long” functions the same as “Short”, but shows a slightly longer ball flight than “Short”. “Tour” only shows the ball flight to the apex and it does not include the effects of wind, slope, or lie penalty. “Long” is now the default setting for Arcade and Pro gameplay styles and “Tour” is now the default setting for Tour gameplay style. Apart from checking your gameplay settings, you can tell which aiming arc you’re using by its length or by noticing that “Long” sways in the wind while “Tour” does not. Here’s an example of what the new “Tour” arc looks like in gameplay.

The capabilities of the Putting skill have expanded so that it now affects the scale of the Putting Grid. Golfers with a lower Putting skill will see a Putting Grid with larger grid squares, while golfers with a higher Putting skill will see a Putting Grid with smaller grid squares. This is intended to simulate a golfer’s ability to read greens.

Shot dispersions for these shot types have been updated:

  • Pick: Increased shot dispersion length and slightly decreased shot dispersion width for lower skilled golfers.`
  • Blast: Decreased overall shot dispersion.
  • Finesse: Increased overall shot dispersion.
  • Knock Down: Decreased shot dispersion length.
  • Stinger: Decreased shot dispersion width.

Due to the volume of gameplay changes that have been made this season, the cost of retraining skills has been reduced from 200 to 50 Reward Points per Skill Point.

Gameplay visuals have also seen a couple of noteworthy improvements. The rotation of the ball model has been updated to be more realistic and no longer appears to sometimes spin as the ball stops rolling. Note that this change has no effect on ball physics, it only affects the visuals of the ball. Also, the putt meter is now brighter so that it has improved visibility on courses with lightly colored greens such as The Country Club.

Pro Pass has been paused for this season, but will be returning in Season 9 with new content.

Online and Tournaments modes have been updated to allow any number of random holes to be selected for a round. Going forward, this will be used in 4, 6, and 9 hole Daily Tournaments so that holes are randomly selected for each Tournament instead of using the same sequence of holes. In Online formats, 9 holes will now be randomly selected instead of only playing the front or back nine.

Lastly, we’re expanding Online formats on PC only to allow players to use 3-Click Swing Mechanic when playing with Pro gameplay style.

  • New specs for Season 8:
    • Superior Brute Series: These Specs significantly improve both Power and Recovery attributes.
    • Superior Precision Series: These Specs significantly improve both Accuracy and Control attributes.
  • Gameplay:
    • Fix for the shot shaping preference bonus being incorrectly applied for swing paths outside of the mishit window. Now when you are hitting shots with your golfer’s preferred shot shape, swings outside of the mishit window will be much more forgiving, as originally intended.
    • Fixed an issue with the pre-shot camera where it would stay pointed towards the golfer instead of reorienting to the target if you were aimed in the opposite direction of the target before pressing “Reset Shot”.
    • Fixed an exploit where some players on PC were still able to use keyboard input to control the Analog Swing Mechanic.
    • Fix for the orange circle effect shown for obstructed shots remaining visible for an additional second when the shot is no longer blocked after changing club or shot type.
  • Online:
    • Fixed matchmaking join timer not being properly synced. This was causing some players who joined late into a lobby being left behind and returned to the main menu instead of transitioning into gameplay. This issue was most noticeable in Online Stroke Play, but also affected Online Foursomes.
    • Fix for seeing a ball floating in midair while remote golfers are dropping their ball after hitting into a hazard in Online Stroke Play matches.
    • Fix for some players not being shown the full screen leaderboard that is shown during the round completion cutscene in online stroke play matches.
    • Fix for needing to accept an invite twice in order to be transitioned to a private match if a player accepts an invite during gameplay.
  • Career:
    • Fixed the hole number not being displayed on the leaderboard shown between holes.
    • Fixed the Longest Putt stat, so that it updates correctly after each tournament concludes.
    • Updated the Augusta National Women’s Amateur trophy sequence to include characters wearing green jackets.
    • Fix for some of the club heads being invisible during the Masters Honorary Starters cut scenes when playing in Performance Mode.
  • Tournaments:
    • Fixed an exploit where players were able to enter a different tournament than selected by pressing up or down immediately after entering a new tournament.
  • Challenges:
    • Fixed a rare softlock that could occur when loading into gameplay in challenges with AI golfers.
    • Players were not able to complete challenge objectives on November 8th from approximately 9:00pm – 11:00pm UTC due to a server issue.
  • Quests:
    • Players were not able to complete quest objectives on November 8th from approximately 9:00pm – 11:00pm UTC due to a server issue.
  • Pro Pass:
    • Fixed an issue that allowed players to claim duplicate Season 7 Pro Pass rewards. The issue occurred on October 24th and the fix was applied to servers shortly after.
    • Additional improvements to ensure that the game functions normally when no Pro Pass is active.
  • Courses:
    • [Bay Hill] Reprimanded and corrected camera operators in the towers on hole hole 9 who were not filming their green.
    • [St Andrews] Updated physics to increase resistance of rough and heavy rough and also increase the lie penalty of heavy rough.
    • [The Country Club] Fixed crowd sometimes obstructing the low camera view on the hole 14 tee box.
    • [The Country Club] Fixed a missing hit box on the large rock on the right side of hole 10.
  • Gear:
    • Fixed color being too dark on a number of Nike polos.
    • Fixed clipping around the armpits on the male Nike Dri-FIT Polos.
    • Fixed clipping around the neck and wrists on the female long-sleeve Nike Dri-FIT Polos.
    • Fixed caddie bib being black instead of the correct color for the event.
    • Fixed clipping in a number of pants visible when previewing in the outfits screen.
    • Fixed clipping in shoulder and waistband when wearing Skeleton Quarter Zip.
    • Reduced size of the “P” on Puma Snapback Cap.
    • Fixed Scottie Scheffler’s belt so that the end is now tucked into the last belt loop.
    • Fix for briefly seeing a pink hat on Ian Poulter if he was quickly scrolled to in the golfer select screen.
  • UI:
    • [Challenges] Updated the camera angle that is used when previewing Challenge rewards.
    • [Equipment] Fix for club heads slowly transitioning from low to high resolution models when scrolling through the equipment screen.
    • [Gameplay] Fixed “Reading Putt…” indicator not being displayed for secondary players in local multiplayer.
    • [Gameplay] Fixed the shot result widget overlapping with the bottom third scorecard, which was most noticeable if a player reached the stroke limit while putting.
    • [Main Menu] Sound effect no longer plays if the player presses the Y/Triangle button in the main menu while a booster banner is displayed, since the action is non-functional.
    • [Main Menu] Updated text on the booster banner title from “…left” to “…Remaining”.
    • [Main Menu] Fix for seeing the wrong trophy icon when reconnecting to servers after disconnecting in gameplay.
    • [Online] Fixed Online Foursomes lobby incorrectly indicating that matchmaking stopped for all players after one player left the lobby during matchmaking.
    • [Private Match] Fixed Private Match background not updating if a player accepts an invite while in Career mode.
    • [Quests] Fixed “Item collected” ribbon not being displayed for the first item when previewing rewards that have already been earned.
    • [Settings] Removed the “Low” option from the “Crowd Quality” pc-specific visual setting since it was non-functional.
    • [Store] Fix for putter grips incorrectly showing  a description that indicates that it can’t be equipped when attempting to equip grip to a putter after purchasing.
    • [Store] Fix for the “Insufficient Funds” pop-up no longer being displayed after it is dismissed once.
    • [Tooltips] Fixed positioning of the wind and elevation tooltips in gameplay.
    • [Tooltips] Fixed positioning of tooltips in Tournaments mode.
    • [Tooltips] Fixed tooltips for Quick Play and Private Match which were being shown on the course select screen instead of the mode select screen.
  • Branding:
    • Update PGA of America logo to latest version.
  • Stability:
    • Update equipment and outfits screens to better support large inventories.
    • Fix for a softlock that could occur if a player accepts an invite when the game is closed and there is a new dynamic message displayed that they haven’t previously seen.
    • Fix for a softlock that could occur if a player accepts an invite while in Quick Play and then backs out of the lobby to the main menu.
    • Additional crash and stability-related fixes.

Fortnite update 4.07 is now available for download, and this ushers in patch 27.11! Check out what’s new in the patch notes and the datamined content from reliable leakers below.

Fortnite Update 4.07 Patch Notes | Fortnite Update v27.11 Patch Notes:

Update: The only patch notes Epic has released is tied to cosmetic gating and The Big Bang event starting on December 2. There is also the Chapter 1, Season 9 event dropping this November 23.

Jump into The Big Bang — Fortnite’s next live event — on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2 PM ET! This event marks a new beginning for Fortnite.

HOW TO JOIN THE EVENT

  • The Big Bang is a Fortnite event starting Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2 PM ET. The experience will be available in the Battle Royale tile in Discover 30 minutes prior, so you can jump in before the event starts to gear up with any of your cosmetics.
  • Invite your friends: the event supports parties of up to four players!
  • Won’t be near a dedicated gaming device during the event? The Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna services let you play Fortnite via cloud streaming on your computer or mobile device!

FORTNITE EXPERIENCES: AVAILABILITY AND DOWNTIME

To prepare for The Big Bang, Fortnite experiences made by Epic will be disabled starting 12 PM ET on December 2. Creator-made experiences will remain enabled until downtime for Fortnite v28.00 starts at 11:30 PM ET.

PHOTOSENSITIVITY/SEIZURES WARNING

This event has flashing lights. If you have a history of photosensitivity, seizure, loss of awareness, or other conditions linked to an epileptic condition, consult a doctor before entering.

AN UPDATE ON COSMETIC GATING

Cosmetic gating will be disabled for the majority of Fortnite cosmetics until we have a long-term solution in place. This change will start rolling out with the v28.00 update on December 3, 2023.

We were conservative in how we reviewed cosmetics and their potential impact on an island’s rating. We are evaluating all cosmetics again now.

A small number of existing cosmetics and less than ten Outfits will remain playable only in T-rated (or regionally equivalent rated) islands because of their obvious fear or violence elements.

We’ve been deep in the comments over the past few days and we’ll keep working on getting this right.

No patch notes have been released yet, but some info has been revealed via datamined content.

Fortnite Update v27.11 Datamined Content:

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.41 Skids Out During Downtime for Payout Exploit (Update)

Polyphony Digital has released Gran Turismo 7 update 1.41 (PS5 version 1.410) and this is an unannounced patch that doesn’t bring in any new content. The title update was rolled out during the server downtime, and you can read about what’s new in the patch notes below.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.41 Patch Notes | Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.410 Patch Notes:

Update: Here are the official patch notes.

Improvements and Adjustments

1. World Circuits
 - We repaired an issue in which Performance Points (PP) that determine selected rival cars and bonus rewards did not reflect car characteristics after tuning in Quick Races and Custom Races.

2. GT Auto
 - We fixed an issue where on certain cars with a custom wing fitted, the end plates of the wing may not have been colored correctly when painting the whole car in the Livery Editor.

3. Sport
 - The issue in which the value of the Driver Rating (DR) could be seen going down in certain instances even if this was not the case has been addressed.

4. Controller
 - We fixed an issue in which vibrations were not output correctly when the value of the “Vibration Strength” under the Options menu was set to 130 or higher with the following controllers:

– DualSense™ Wireless Controller (PS5® version only.)
– Thrustmaster® T-GT / T-GT II
– Logitech® G G923
– Logitech® G PRO Racing Wheel

Polyphony Digital hasn’t released the official patch notes just yet, though the community presumes this is to plug an exploit regarding payouts.

Here’s a speculative comment on how it might be changed post-patch:

Speculation of post-patch payout
byu/SgtFatCat ingranturismo

Since the quick race pp glitch likely going to patched, I tried to figure out how much payout will we get after update

500~599pp: ~310600 400~499pp: ~413200 300~399pp: ~588700 200~299pp: ~830800 100~199pp: ~1031700

Gotta find another fast vehicle to detuned around 300~399pp for manual grinding, afk seems impossible after the patch

For me… Time to going back le mans 30min/spa 1 hour lol

Other than that, we also have the schedule for the GT7 downtime below as well.

Gran Turismo 7 Down Schedule for November 21:

Day & Time]

Start: 11/21/2023 01:00 EST / 06:00 UTC / 15:00 JST / 17:00 AEDT

End: 11/21/2023 03:00 EST / 08:00 UTC / 17:00 JST / 19:00 AEDT

(Please note the above times are subject to change.)

During this period only “Arcade Race” within “World Circuits” will be available to play, but various online features including “Sport” mode will not be accessible.

Also, game progress cannot be saved while the servers are offline. To save the current status of the game, the console must be reconnected online after the end of the server maintenance.

The known issues that the dev team are working on is available below as well.

Gran Turismo 7 Known Issues (as of Nov. 21):

Application Error / Progression Blocker
– In certain Race Events, the application crashes on the Rewards and Rating screen, preventing any further progression.

Multiplayer
– In the Lobby, there have been cases where “Preparing” is displayed on screen but the Host cannot start the race. Having all room members leave and re-enter the room will allow the race to be started.
– In the Lobby, there have been cases where players in the same room do not appear on the member list or during the race. In this case, an application error will occur when the host starts the race.
– In the Lobby, there have been cases wherein completing a race would not let users progress further.

Once the official GT7 patch notes are out, we’ll update the article.

Update: Official patch notes have been added and we’ve updated the known issues too.

Modern Warfare 3 Gaia Skin Nerf Incoming, Looping Streaks Planned in Experimental and More Info Revealed in AMA

If you’ve played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and have a question for the devs regarding multiplayer, you’re in for quite a read, as the devs went to Reddit to host an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session. Now before anyone asks, nope, SBMM (skill-based matchmaking) wasn’t discussed, but the devs confirm a nerf for the troublesome Gaia operator skin and more

Read on for the things discussed, which touches on gun balancing, looping streaks (incoming in the Experimental Playlist) and loads more.

Modern Warfare 3 AMA Info (Nov. 20):

  • Adjustments to the Gaia and Gaia Blackcell Operator Skins are in the pipeline. In a future game update, Sledgehammer will disable the item until said changes is released
  • Fixes for both Final Killcams and HUD are in progress. In a future game update, we’ll have balance adjustments to the Scatter Mine and RGL-80 that are specific to Hardcore playlists. These items are currently overperforming due to the decreased health.
  • SGH goal is to have a “meta shift” from season to season to keep things fresh and interesting, though they are aiming for as many weapons as possible to be viable to suit the different playstyles in the community. Expect Season 1 to have a higher-level tweaks with S1.5 to have some deeper changes.
  • Frag Grenades maximum damage is being reduced. These changes will decrease the damage taken by players both at the center and outer edges of the explosion.
  • In a future game update, SGH will test non-disbanding lobbies with a “cohort of players” to determine the performance of such a change. If these tests go well, the devs will explore a rollout to all players.
  • No current plans for a 1v1 mode, but if there is enough interest, they might look into it.
  • Streak looping is something the dev team definitely wants to try out. Expect to see this in a future Experimental Playlist.
  • Multiple classic weapons from the Modern Warfare series is planned to be added in future seasonal updates, and these include shotguns and sniper rifles.
  • No plans for custom reticles at this time.
  • On packet burst issue – SGH states, “We’re always pursuing improvement and optimization for an issue like packet burst. It can manifest itself differently depending on the map or mode you are playing. For example, vehicles on Groundwar/Invasion maps require a different level of optimization than 6v6. We will continue to prioritize improvements in this area and are proud of the work we have done to launch with remarkably low crash rates.”
  • SGH teasing that maybe they can fit even more than 20 players in a 6v6 map (in response to someone asking if Blitz mode can be added in).
  • Mouse input issues is being looked into by SGH.
  • No plans to add a third-person playlist.
  • Cyberattack not currently in the seasonal plans, but if there is strong interest, the devs are willing to explore fan-fave modes.
  • On desync and hit registration – Our team, in collaboration with Demonware, is always working to improve server and game performance. We got a lot of good reports and data during the Beta and Launch window. Many improvements have already been made, and further are underway.
  • Ghost camo – SGH looking into reports that detection from moving to standing still is too aggressive.
  • No planned changes to Covert Sneakers. States that players aren’t “totally silent” with this perk equipped, as there are other sounds that will give them away.
  • Gun Game coming back “very soon.”
  • No ping limit filter planned.
  • Sledgehammer Games’ data shows the first SMG a player unlocks is underperforming. Wants to make sure SMGs are dominant in areas: close-range, TTK, ADS speed, Sprint to Fire and general mobility. Their data shows most used SMGs are underperforming and “isn’t great,” though they are happy with the Rival9 in the meta, and other SMGs are the ones the dev team is looking into.
  • Shotgun management is being looked into. SGH admits the TTK in MW3 makes balancing shotguns “extra challenging,” though they mention how it is important for the devs to carve out a space for the weapons.
  • No plans to bring Headquarters back.
  • No plans to bring back Combat Pacing from COD: Vanguard, but SGH is planning to experiment with intensity.
  • No plans to bring back Theater Mode due to the significant time and resources it needs.
  • SGH looking into possibility of a finisher/execution move preview.
  • Expect more events in the game.
  • No MW2 2009 DLC maps are planned to be added.
  • Demolition is planned for a later season.
  • No plans for a “MW2 remade” map filter as this could fragment the player base.
  • There will be six 2v2 maps in rotation in Season 1, including four carry-forward maps from MW2, and a brand-new map called Training facility, which will be available in Season 1.
  • Shipment confirmed to be returning.
  • More War maps are planned as part of the seasonal updates.

That’s about it. Sadly, nothing about SBMM was discussed nor has any questions for it answered, which didn’t go well with the community.

Once we know more about some of the planned changes, we’ll let our readers know. We’re still expecting a patch to be released soon to address some of the game’s lingering issues before Season 1 kicks off.

Playstation Japan Teases a Potential Music Collaboration With King Gnu

PlayStation Japan might be setting up for another musical advertising collaboration in the near future. Posting on their official Twitter/X account today, the company shared a teaser featuring the classic PlayStation symbols and a crown that might hint at a connection to Japanese band King Gnu.

The tweet can be seen here:

Following the classic “PlayStation” voice and the four symbols, a sketchy crown and a date appear within the teaser: 11.23, or November 23. The crown is actually iconography associated with Japanese band King Gru. It can be seen on their official YouTube channel‘s banner and profile picture as well as across much of their other internet presence. Additionally, the band posted the same teaser shown above on their own Twitter/X account earlier today.

PlayStation Japan has done collaborations with musicians before for their advertising campaigns. Last year, they did a campaign with musician Kenshi Yonezu, tagged with their “Play Has No Limits” slogan. This is likely to be a similar thing, though it’s always possible it could be something more.

In other PlayStation news, the free November games for PlayStation Plus members are available now, and you can check them out here.

Modern Warfare 3 SBMM Questions Ignored by Sledgehammer in Q&A

In a new AMA (Ask Me Anything) posted on the (semi-official) Modern Warfare III subreddit today, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 dev Sledgehammer Games revealed plans for several upcoming changes to the game. Despite all of the promised fixes, however, the team repeatedly ignored one of the most common questions: whether or not the team would change, fix, or remove, Modern Warfare 3 SBMM, otherwise known as Skill-Based Matchmaking.

The AMA thread, which Sledgehammer was live in this afternoon, is filled to the brim with questions on all sorts of topics, but most prominently, about the game’s current SBMM system and whether the team plans to change it. In fact, if you sort the thread by top comments, the most upvoted comment addresses SBMM before anything else:

Comment
byu/SledgehammerGames from discussion
inModernWarfareIII

This comment has nearly 1,200 upvotes, and yet Sledgehammer didn’t have anything to say in response. In fact, the top five comments all address this issue, and Sledgehammer’s radio silent on all of them. Fans are not happy about this, and they’ve taken to Twitter/X to voice their concerns:

https://twitter.com/r3al1tyuk_/status/1726696961208951242

This is disappointing to see, and we hope that Sledgehammer acknowledges the issue soon. Or if they can’t say anything about it, perhaps Activision can offer an official statement? In the meantime, you can see what they HAVE said about changes coming to Season 1.
