Rogue Company Update 2.20 Out This March 21 (Update)

First Watch Games has released Rogue Company update 2.20 (PS5 version 1.000.054) today for all platforms. Check out the Rogue Company March 21 patch notes below.

Rogue Company Update 2.20 Patch Notes | Rogue Company 1.000.054 Patch Notes | Rogue Company March 21 Patch Notes:

Update: Here are the official patch notes for the title update:

ROGUES

  • Health Regeneration
    A combination of Bounceback being adjusted and the speed of the game being impacted by the initial change, we are opting to revert the regen delay back to 5s.

    • Health Regeneration Delay Reverted Back to 5s

  • Cannon
    Our team has worked to define our four roles, their rules and intended playstyles recently(there will be more info on this soon) and we felt that, at his core, Cannon is honestly a Breacher. This is defined by the tools at his disposal and the kind of playstyle it rewards. He is a forward moving juggernaut that is meant to force engagements with multiple enemies and pressure defensible points. Therefore, he is formally defined as a Breacher going forward. Additionally we are changing how his Gatling Gun functions so that it’s primary function is to move forward and annihilate the enemy(within balanced reasons of course).

    • Role Changed From Defender to Breacher
    • Gatling Gun Ability
      • Headshot Damage Reduced from 18 -> 16
      • Bodyshot Damage Reduced from 15 -> 14
      • No longer able to go prone or mount while using the Gatling Gun
      • Movement speed while using Gatling Gun has been reduced by 15%

  • Vy
    Vy is a wonderful defender who is meant to control spaces with her zoning tools. However, her ability is a bit too oppressive and easily used offensively which can make enemies feel overwhelmed and literally drowning in AoEs! We are making some adjustments to her ability and also changing a few items in her loadout to reward a more defensive and controlling playstyle.

    • Katana Replaced with Combat Knife
    • Vile Poison Ability
      • Cooldown Increased from 30s to 40s
      • Poison Duration Reduced from 12s -> 10s
      • Throw Distance Reduced
    • Rare Tenacity Replaced with Rare Helping Hands
    • Epic Replenish Replaced with Epic Tenacity

  • Dahlia
    Dahlia is meant to be our in-the-fight combat support specialist that can fight and help her team. As such we are giving her fast tools that allow her to lead her team to victory.

    • APS replaced with Pop Smoke
    • Rare Blaster Replaced With Rare Evade
    • Epic Replenish Replaced with Epic Quick Hands

  • Kestrel
    Kestrel is our seasoned and well-priced veteran of the field, a duelist of great skill that is rewarded greatly for taking risks. We are changing a couple of perks to help facilitate that gameplay.

    • Updated Perk Loadout
      • Rare Evade
      • Rare Life Drain
      • Rare Blaster
      • Epic Energized
      • NEW Epic Quick Hands Replaced With Epic Padded Steps
      • Epic Stalker
      • Legendary Shredder Rounds
      • NEW Legendary Gadgeteer Replaced With Legendary Restock

PERKS

  • Bounce Back
    A minor price bump to a potent perk for now.

    • Legendary Bounce Back Cost Increased from $13,000 -> $14,000

  • Lifeline
    Lifeline was a marginally more expensive perk that was also substantially better than helping hands since it has a dual function. We are tuning down the revive speed to validate Helping Hands a bit more. Additionally we discovered some issues with Epic and Legendary Lifeline that we’ve addressed. We may visit Helping Hands later to give it a buff later.

    • Rare Lifeline Revive Speed Reduction has been Reduced from 20% → 15%
    • Epic Lifeline Revive Speed Reduction has been Reduced from 40% → 30%
      • NOTE – “But the description already said 30%!” Actually it was being reduced BY 40%, we fixed it to work as intended.
    • Legendary Lifeline Revive Speed Reduced from 60% → 50%
      •  NOTE – “But the description said 40%!”  So, we discovered this perk was ACTUALLY reducing the revive time TO 40% instead of BY 40%. Flubbing of the math that has been cleaned up.

WEAPONS

PISTOLS

  • Executioner
    Returning some of the accuracy to the heavy pistol so that players can land more shots at range.

    • Base Accuracy Increased
  • Spitfire
    While still popular in both use rate and win rate, the Spitfire is getting some improvements to its range and damage fall offs, getting a third threshold to have a better gradient on the ranges.

    • Damage Falloff Thresholds Increased from 7/14m -> 9/17/20m
    • Damage Falloff Adjusted to 80%/55%/30%

SMGS

While they have dropped a bit in use rate and their win rates still above 50%, the SMGs are getting a global bump and some targeted adjustments to put them in our intended placements for them. This will involve increasing the overall accuracy, improving bloom and pushing out falloff thresholds to be more reasonable. We will continue to watch player sentiment and the data.

  • D40C
    • Base Accuracy Increased
    • Accuracy Loss Per Shot Decreased
    • Max Accuracy Loss Decreased
    • Damage Falloff Thresholds Increased from 8/17/21.5m -> 10/19/25m
  • SL-C
    • Base Accuracy Increased
    • ADS Accuracy Increased
    • Damage Falloff Thresholds Increased from 7.5/16/20.5 -> 9/18/23m
  • HRM24s
    • Base Accuracy Increased
    • Accuracy Loss Per Shot Decreased
    • Max Accuracy Loss Decreased
    • Damage Falloff Thresholds Increased from 8.5/16/19.75m -> 10.5/18.5/24m
  • LMPX
    • Base Accuracy Increased
    • Accuracy Loss Per Shot Decreased
    • Accuracy Return Delay Decreased(This is a buff)
    • Damage Falloff Thresholds Increased from 9/19/24m -> 12/22/28
  • Objection
    • Body Damage Reduced from 13 -> 12
    • Base Accuracy Increased
    • Fixed ADS Accuracy issue where it appeared as if the weapon accuracy worsened while in ADS
    • Accuracy Loss Per Shot Decreased
    • Damage Falloff Thresholds Increased from 10/15/17.5m -> 10/17/21.5m
  • Knight
    • Base Accuracy Increased
    • Accuracy Loss Per Shot Decreased
    • Max Accuracy Loss Decreased
    • Accuracy Return Delay Decreased
  • Ibex
    • ADS Accuracy Increased

ASSAULT RIFLES

Assault Rifles globally are going to have their accuracy tuned to favor ADS more than hipfire. This is to fit more to their identity of being larger weapons and to give a better space for SMGs to have their strengths in close quarters engagements. Keep in mind the net accuracy (Base+ADS) is the same, hipfiring was nerfed but ADS was buffed.

  • HRM30k
    We are pulling back on some of the adjustments to the HRM30k from the prior update.

    • Movement Accuracy Penalty Reduced from 0.02 → 0.005
    • Mag Upgrade Amount Increased from 25 → 30
  • Hydra
    The Hydra is running very strong the ecosystem, coupled with an overly-generous mag size, high damage and a moderate fire rate, it’s currently over-represented and its win rate is trending beyond acceptable thresholds. Therefore, in addition to the identity adjustments, we are bringing down the fire rate and upgraded mag size.

    • Hipfire Accuracy Reduced
    • ADS Accuracy Increased
    • Movement Accuracy Penalty Added: 0.01
    • Accuracy Loss Per Shot Decreased
    • Max Accuracy Loss Increased
    • Accuracy Return Rate Decreased
    • Fire Rate Reduced from 5.50 →  5.00
    • Upgraded Mag Size Reduced from 40 →  30
  • KA30
    • Hipfire Accuracy Reduced
    • ADS Accuracy Increased
  • MLX M4
    • Hipfire Accuracy Reduced
    • ADS Accuracy Increased
  • Nightshade
    As our hybrid between an AR and SMG, similar to how the LMPX is more AR-like, the Nightshade is gaining some of the traits of SMGs(increased mobility, better closer range damage, a third falloff threshold).

    • ADS Accuracy Decreased
    • Jump Accuracy Penalty Reduced from -0.09 -> -0.07
    • First Damage Falloff Buffed from 75% -> 85%
    • Damage Falloff Ranges Adjusted from  13/26m -> 13/23/31m
  • Riptide
    • Hipfire Accuracy Reduced
    • ADS Accuracy Increased
  • Sahara
    • Hipfire Accuracy Slightly Buffed
    • ADS Accuracy Slightly Reduced

SHOTGUNS

These two shotguns should round us out on the initial core pass. These are more focused on balancing around the removal of Toughness as they had initially received damage buffs when that system existed. We’ll continue to watch shotguns in general as they have a really low use-rate but a moderate win rate.

  • SKL6
    • Headshot Damage Reduced from 110 -> 100
    • Bodyshot Damage Reduced from 75 -> 70
    • Fire Rate Reduced from 2 -> 1.82
  • Striker 8×10
    • Bodyshot Damage Reduced from 52 -> 48
    • Third Falloff Range Reduced from 25m -> 20m

First Watch Games has not posted the full and official patch notes yet, but there has been maintenance for the game today. That being said, maintenance is finished so you can now log in to the servers and continue playing Rogue Company.

The last update came out a few weeks ago and this was a hotfix for the big Eternal Conflict patch. We will update this post as soon as we can if First Watch Games decides to reveal any patch notes today.

In the meantime, you can visit the game’s official website or the Trello Board for all of the latest updates on patches and fixes.

Rust Meetup Canceled by Facepunch Studios Over Death Threats

Rust developer Facepunch Studios announced that they would be canceling a community meetup event that was originally planned to take place on March 21 during Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2023.

The announcement was made following death threats that the studio received, and in order to prioritize the safety of the game’s developers, the event was canceled.

The event was meant to be a gathering of individuals from the game industry, giving developers and professionals a chance at meeting with Facepunch. The studio even encouraged attendees to bring their portfolios to said meetup. While it may no longer be possible for any hopeful individuals to get in touch with Facepunch in-person, the developers did leave behind an email address for anyone interested in contacting them.

According to Rust producer Alistair McFarlane, threats such as the ones messaged at the devs in this incident are “commonplace.” Staff members have to deal with the threats on a daily basis, with some even having to “change personal details” due to doxxing. McFarlane cites the “cheat community” as one of the biggest offenders, with both cheat makers and users going to “great efforts” in order to harass staff members.

Despite the cancelation of the meetup, Facepunch is still set to attend GDC itself, and there’s always the dedicated email address for those who originally planned on attending the IRL event.

Report: Steam “Game Notes” System in the Works Alongside Client Notifications Page

Video game platform Steam is reportedly getting a new feature that will allow players to take “game notes.” The Steam game notes feature would be available both on the Steam Library as well as via a web browser.

The upcoming feature was revealed by Paval Djundik, creator of the popular Steam database website SteamDB and known dataminer of the platform.

While Djundik didn’t mention anything other than it being a “game notes” system, it’s likely a feature that will let players write down information regarding the games they play. This could be useful for games that require to-do lists (such as automation or survival games) or if you want to write down plot points in more story-driven games.

The game notes system wasn’t the only feature that Djundik found, however. The dataminer also revealed that a notifications page for Steam is in the works. This page would function similarly to the notifications page on the Steam mobile app and will be part of the regular PC client once Valve replaces older VGUI parts, such as its server browser and settings.

While Steam has been the go-to game platform for many years, it hasn’t aged perfectly, with outdated designs and cluttered UI making it difficult for newcomers to navigate through their library or the store. These changes are hopefully a sign of Valve’s effort to make a more modern game client.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Was an Experiment on an Episodic Format for the Series, Says Kojima

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the stealth action game that was set years before the events of MGSV: The Phantom Pain, turned nine years old a few days ago, and creator Hideo Kojima revealed some interesting information about the title.

In a recent tweet by the game’s creator, Kojima stated that Ground Zeroes was originally set to be a prologue to MGSV.

A follow-up tweet by Kojima also revealed that Ground Zeroes was an “experiment” of sorts. As game development took years for a single title, Kojima played around with the idea of a more episodic format for MGSV, something similar to a “streamed drama.”

This likely explains why Ground Zeroes, despite its generally well-received gameplay and story, is much shorter than an average video game title. Players only needed a few hours to beat the story in its entirety, and due to Ground Zeroes being priced more similarly to larger and lengthier games, not everybody felt like they got their money’s worth.

Even years after the release of Ground Zeroes, Hideo Kojima continues to make a name for himself in the video game industry thanks to his unique design approach. Death Stranding 2, the upcoming sequel to Kojima’s first game under Kojima Productions, was announced last year during The Game Awards, and while we haven’t heard much from him since then, we do know that he has “surprises” planned for 2023.

Afterimage Hands-On Preview – Drawn to Life

It’s common knowledge that beauty is only skin deep, and that saying perfectly applies to video games as well. But when you can get some jaw-dropping art to go with superb platforming action, what’s there to complain? Modus Games’ Afterimage is the attention grabber here, an eye-wateringly gorgeous game that does the Metroidvania moniker complete justice, instead of effortlessly trying to ride the popularity wave. Fans of Hollow Knight and the Ori series may come for the art but will stay for the polished and challenging gameplay, the 30 nail-bitingly difficult bosses, and an adventure that is promised to last for 40 exciting hours, and unlike the main character, you won’t forget about it so soon.

Beautiful Sights and Boss Fights

Renee is the star of Afterimage, a girl that conveniently has no recollection of her past and leaves her destroyed village behind to explore some mysterious attacks. This tried-and-tested plot mechanism allows us to discover the storyline alongside Renee, who is striving to help the remaining settlements of mankind to survive. She is not alone, however; little floating spirit Ifree follows her around and occasionally provides some interesting remarks about lore and puzzle progression.

Afterimage’s mesmerizing graphics are the undeniable first highlight; a work of beauty, with Renee’s long, flowing hair moving in perfect synchrony with her swaying outfit. As smooth as any almost perfect hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation can be, this relatively small character is a joy both to behold and to maneuver through a variety of remarkable environments. Despite only witnessing a handful of different locations but with the promise of plenty more to look forward to, the eyes cannot avoid but staring at every detail, such is the noticeable love that pervades this world – from ravaged forests where even a burning fire in the distance is a sight to behold, to the endless flower fields that could be inspired by the most whimsical animated movies, there are so many layers to imbue depth in what is at its core a flat side-scrolling game, that you can’t help but gaze as far as your sight can stretch. At times, it feels as a cartoon come to life, and the superb and soothing orchestral melodies accompanying you are the perfect travel companions. Obviously, these give way to more anarchic tunes when a boss encounter is taking place.

Afterimage Preview

As it happens with every Metroidvania in existence, Renee starts with barely any capabilities apart from anything a regular human can normally do. As you progress and unlock new parts of the map, Renee levels up and regularly earns talent points to trade for buffs in a fairly confined skill tree. It’s no Path of Exile for sure, but such comparison isn’t suitable here anyway, and Afterimage still has plenty to explore. The non-linear world will encourage you to backtrack whenever possible and to use the freshly acquired powers, or Afterimages, to reach new areas that were previously inaccessible. Dash is one of the first you will attain, proving useful both for reaching platforms afar, but also to swiftly dodge enemy attacks.

In terms of bang for your buck, it’s hard to feel cheated, even when you’re trying over and over – on that matter, die and if you make it back to your last expiration point, you can recover your experience. It’s a lot of fun to use the weapon combos, experiment with different builds, and punch the air in joy when you finally overcome a boss that has been responsible for some serious gamepad flinging.

With 30 bosses patiently waiting for your arrival, you should expect no more than a clash of titans each time… maybe except for the first handful of them, who are more interested in setting the adventure lore in motion than giving you a hard time. Nonetheless, these are remarkable moments to test your skills but also to delight you once again with some amazing artwork and mise-en-scene. Expertly conceived and animated, along with a truly outstanding use of color gradients, they’re guaranteed to distract you during your first attempt as you both learn their intricate patterns and appreciate every flow, every utterly unnecessary detail that just makes them even more fascinating to watch.

Striving for perfection is great, but there’s no such thing, not even in gaming. Afterimage does have a few oblivious enemies that are unable to move beyond their default platforms, unless they get a little push from Renee. It’s very mechanical at times, but this could be something that will appeal to speedrunners.

Success is Survival

Afterimage Preview

My hands-on time with Afterimage left me with no doubts – this is going to be a fan-favorite, a game that looks as great as it plays. It’s a massive beast primed for discovery and a time-stealer of the finest kind, an action adventure where an initially daunting enemy will be nothing but cannon fodder after a few hours of experimenting with stats, discovering new weapons and equipment, and coming to terms with attack patterns.

You may be lost, you may be frustrated, but Afterimage deserves your perseverance because it has so much to offer, and such high-quality sights to behold that it’s utterly obvious this is a labor of love. Every Metroidvania fan must look forward to this one, as everything points to a successful entry in the genre, one that unlike poor amnesiac Renee’s past, won’t soon be forgotten.

MP1st was given access to a preview build of Afterimage for our hands-on session. Afterimage is set to release on April 25, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch.

Valve Files 2 Trademarks for “CS2,” Fueling Counter-Strike 2 Rumors

After fans spotted a “Counter-Strike 2” Game Profile entry in an Nvidia driver update, Valve has filed two new trademarks for “CS2” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The discovery of the USPTO entries adds further fuel to the rumors of Counter-Strike 2 being in development, but Valve has provided no official confirmation of its existence as of yet.

Earlier in March, data miners found a new Game Profile entry for “Counter-Strike 2” inside the then-latest Nvidia driver update, pointing to the executable files “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe.” A report then claimed that a Counter-Strike 2 project was indeed under development as an improved version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. “CS2” or “CS:GO 2” runs on Valve’s Source 2 engine according to the report with 128-tick servers, and will enter beta in late March.

Two new USPTO trademark listings for “CS2” by Valve have now surfaced, lending further credence to the report. Both listings were filed on March 14 and list the same attorney of record, but have different trademark classes and descriptions. The first CS2 listing covers “computer game software, electronic game software, video game software, computer game programs downloadable via the internet,” while the second covers “entertainment services, namely, providing online video games; provision of on-line entertainment, namely, on-line computer games; providing on-line computer games and on-line video games; electronic games services provided by means of the Internet; providing information in the fields of computer games and entertainment via the Internet; organization of competitions relating to video games, video game education, and video game entertainment; providing information in the field of on-line computer games and on-line video games and computer games.”

While Valve has not confirmed the existence of a Counter-Strike 2, the new trademark listings combined with the previous report point strongly towards that conclusion. Keep in mind that the company is not averse to practical jokes, and the first of April is nigh. Stay tuned here at MP1st for all upcoming CS2 news and announcements.

LEGO 2K Driving Game Announced, Trailer Coming March 23

Following the report from yesterday revealing that 2K Games has secured the right to develop and publish LEGO sports games, The Lego Group has officially announced a LEGO driving game developed by 2K, with the trailer for the game to be released on March 23. This additionally confirms the report that revealed the development of a “LEGO 2K Drive” title.

Check out the official announcement below:

While 2K and Sumo Digital both refused to comment on the VGC report from yesterday, The LEGO Group has chosen to officially announce the existence of the LEGO 2K driving game today with a fictional LEGO-universe newscast that acknowledges the report. Though the Sumo-helmed soccer game was not mentioned, Visual Concepts’ racing game has been officially confirmed and will be formally announced with the release of a trailer on March 23.

The “LEGO 2K Drive” images that surfaced along with Insider Gaming’s report have since been taken down, but those who have seen them can rest assured that the driving game is in fact in development. The confirmation lends credibility to the reports’ other leaks as well, which include the aforementioned soccer game and a third game that involves a major sport franchise.

For now, stay tuned here at MP1st for all upcoming details and announcements about the LEGO/2K partnership, and our coverage of the LEGO 2K Drive trailer on Thursday.
