EA CEO Acknowledges Player “Trepidation” Over New Battlefield Game Since BF2024 and BFV Didn’t “Restonate” Strongly With Community

[summaraize]

With the reveal of Battlefield Labs, publisher Electronic Arts also snuck in a few seconds of gameplay of the new Battlefield game. While it is a trailer and all that, what was revealed looked impressive to get fans a tad excited that we’re back to seeing the franchise return to form.

However, most Battlefield veterans are now cautious of the new game, with most reminding players not to get swept up in the hype and not to pre-order it.

EA’s CEO Knows Players Are Skeptical of the New Battlefield Game

Most social media platforms these days are keen to remind Battlefield fans not to pre-order the game because, based on the past few BF games, EA has not delivered.

One Battlefield fan page even has multiple people reminding not to pre-order even if the trailer looked good.

This thought hasn’t been lost on EA CEO Andrew Wilson. During the publisher’s latest quarterly earnings report, Wilson was asked about the community reception to the Battlefield Labs announcement and how it was relative to the publisher’s expectations.

Wilson answers the question, ” I would say the response to the play test and the Battlefield Labs initiative has been overwhelmingly positive and well beyond our expectations, which is great. It’s demonstrative of just the fan love out there for this storage franchise. There’s really two big reasons why our team is taking this approach. The first is, as I think you talk about, there is some trepidation amongst the core community as to what this Battlefield will be. Battlefield is this incredible franchise at unbelievable scale with destruction and vehicles and all kinds of things as much loved in the community.”

Wilson continues, admitting how the last two entries in the franchise — Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield V — didn’t exactly resonate well with the community. “The last two iterations of Battlefield have not resonated as strongly and have been found wanting by meaningful parts of the community globally. And so we do appreciate and understand that there is some trepidation there. And this development team the biggest development team we’ve ever had is committed to working very closely with our players to ensure that they understand what we’re doing, they feed into the tuning and balancing at scale of this game,” Wilson notes.

The EA boss ends his statement by reiterating how this is the biggest Battlefield the publisher has built to date. “The second reason is it is the biggest Battlefield we will ever build or at least we have ever built to date. It exists on an incredible scale, both in terms of breadth and depth of gameplay in terms of access points, in terms of way that you can play this game. And a big part of the modern development process that the team is taking is to test and tune everything to ensure that even as we launch something of this scale, it launches both stable and secure. And I think the combination of those two things is driving this initiative, which is Battlefield Labs, and the way the community has responded been very positive to date.”

It’s an understatement to say the two Battlefield games didn’t resonate “strongly.” While Battlefield V might seem like a good Battlefield game right now, it wasn’t the case at launch. DICE introduced unnecessary “innovations” such as Attririon, which the studio was eventually forced to pedal back on. After numerous title updates, DICE eventually brought the game to a good enough state, but by that time, the player base was already moving on to the next shooter.

Battlefield 2042 seemed to fare worse. The game deviated from the core Battlefield formula by integrating specialists instead of classes, which the community wasn’t on board with. Our review of it at launch reflected that, as we mention, “The best we can hope for right now is to wait for Season 1, or the succeeding seasons to see if DICE has fixed enough issues, added in enough standard quality of life improvements, and of course, content, to warrant a purchase or to give the game enough game time. Until then, this is one war you might want to think twice before signing up for.”

After countless updates that saw the transition of specialists to more traditional classes, BF2042 was in a better state. However, as with BFV, most of the player base has moved on, given the time it took DICE to patch the game to a good enough state. So many changes were made that we felt we needed to re-review the game in 2023.

DICE can redeem itself once more with the still-untitled new Battlefield game. While no release date for it has been set, EA has mentioned that it will be released before April 2026.

Over 1 Million Copies Sold in the First Day for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 1 Million Copies

This rapid success is even more impressive when compared to the first game, which took nearly two weeks to reach the same sales figure. The sequel’s strong launch highlights how well Warhorse’s unique RPG style has been received, benefiting from the popularity of the original game. Unlike its predecessor, which faced technical issues at launch, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has had a much smoother release, further contributing to its positive reception.

Beyond sales, the game has also seen outstanding engagement. On Steam, more than 160,000 people played at the same time, which is much higher than the first game’s peak of 96,000. Twitch viewership also exceeded 467,000, showing massive interest from the gaming community. It also became the best-selling game on Steam worldwide, proving to be one of the biggest RPG releases of the year.

In the meantime, read our review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, where we gave it a score of 9.5 out of 10, stating, “Warhorse Studios has delivered a worthy sequel and set a new benchmark for what medieval RPGs can achieve.”

Rainbow Six Siege Update 2.93 Hammers Out Y9S4.3; Anti-Cheat and Player Protection Plans Outlined

[summaraize]

Ubisoft has released Rainbow Six Siege update 2.93, which will show up as download version 1.000.098 on PS5/Xbx Series X|S. The devs tag this minor update as patch Y9S4.3 (Year 9, Season 4.3).

This title update improves PC boot time, and bug fixes are included as well.

Rainbow Six Siege’s Latest Patch Improves Boot Times

Rainbow Six Siege Update 2.62

Improved boot time by reducing unnecessary reboots (PC Only)

  • Removed unnecessary reboots of RainbowSix.exe due to BattlEye relaunches
  • This streamlines the boot flow for users and reduces the time to get into the game by roughly 50%

BUG FIXES

USER EXPERIENCE

  • FIXED – Squad Menu matchmaking settings are not saved after rebooting the game.

In addition to today’s patch, Ubisoft has also shared many details about the developers’ plans for player protection and anti-cheat.

Rainbow Six Siege Player Protection and Anti-Cheat Update Plans Revealed

CHEATER REPORTS DECREASING

PC CHEATER REPORTS
Cheater reports have been decreasing, and we’ve got all-new data to share on this. In the graph above, we can see that cheater reports have been consistently trending downward since the beginning of October, revealing that players are noticing the change in cheater presence. Cheater reports have now decreased by over 40% when compared to our highs of summer 2024, and year on year we’ve seen a drop upwards of 30%.

CONSOLE CHEATER REPORTS
Console cheater reports have remained largely stable throughout the year. Reports did see an increase at the start of December, though we believe the majority of these are due to the crossplay default setting bug that players had experienced at the launch of Y9S4. We remain focused on our console Anti-Cheat efforts, with more details on MouseTrap below.

MOUSETRAP – MOUSE & KEYBOARD DETECTION ON CONSOLE

NEW PENALTY LIVE

Looking at the season launch we know that console players may not have felt the full impact of MouseTrap (as shown in the graph above with a rise in cheater reports at the start of December), with a bug enabling Console to PC crossplay by default, resulting in controller players being unknowingly matched with PC players who were legitimately using keyboard and mouse.

Overall, our data shows that the system is working as expected, detecting and applying penalties to spoofing device users, forcing them into the PC pool. We are confident in our detection, though we know that some players have been able to bypass detection this season. This bypass method is currently being investigated, and we’ll be enabling a fix for this soon.

We are closely monitoring MouseTrap and will continue to do so as we ramp up its AI capabilities. Our team is looking into improvements and new ways to utilize AI, which will help us to bolster our detection of cheating on console.

There’s a lot more to take in, which you can read about in detail here.

Stay tuned for more R6 Siege coverage from MP1st.

Steam Now Warns About Early Access Games That Haven’t Been Updated in Months

[summaraize]

Valve has made some changes to Steam to better help and protect players. In addition to previous updates, where Steam updated store policies to require season passes to specify content and release dates, along with offering refunds for canceled DLC, they are now focusing on Early Access games, making it easier for users to identify those that haven’t received updates for a while.

This update, which was spotted by SteamDB on X (formerly Twitter), introduces a warning that will appear when a game in Early Access hasn’t been updated in 12 months or more. The warning will clearly state how long it’s been since the last update, whether it’s been weeks or months.

Steam Adds Warning for Early Access Games That Haven’t Been Updated

steam early access games

For example, a game called Lethal Beach has not had any updates since January 2024. The message for these games tells players that the information and timeline from the developers may no longer be accurate, making the Steam store more transparent about the status of Early Access games.

This update is meant to stop players from buying games that have been forgotten or left unfinished by their developers. While players can still ask for refunds, It seems that Valve wants to cut down on refund requests and the hassle of contacting support if a game has been abandoned without notice.

This update is part of other changes Valve is making. Due to a new law in California, Valve now has to tell players that when they buy a game on Steam, they are actually buying a license key, not the game itself. This aims to address concerns about digitally purchased games being shut down and the uncertainty of whether buyers will be able to access the game in the future.

In other news, Valve is rumored to be developing a new console to compete directly with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox, partnering with AMD to use their RDNA4 technology.

Balance Changes

Gadgets

Breach Charge

  • Decreased the delay between throwing multiple Breach Charges from 0.9s to 0.6s

Lockbolt Launcher

  • Increased activation grace period from 0.8s to 1s, making it slightly easier to lock on to targets
  • Decreased the minimum pull distance from 8m to 6m, giving locked players slightly less room to maneuver
  • Decreased the maximum pull distance from 10m to 6m, giving locked players less room to maneuver
  • Increased the pull force of the Lockbolt by 50%, making it slightly harder for players to move beyond the radius of the lock’s chains
  • Increased the damage the Lockbolt applies to targets from 0 to 5
  • Added functionality that will disable the Lockbolt’s tethers if the Lockbolt is carried through a Gateway that is outside the maximum pull distance (6m)

Game Modes

Dev Note: Since our changes to deposit values in Cashout in Season 3, we’ve noticed an increasing number of teams adopting the ‘plug meta,’ where teams primarily focus on depositing Cash Boxes in World Tour and Ranked Tournaments to increase their chances of winning. While we wanted to encourage teams to focus on depositing and protecting cashouts, rather than third-partying already active cashouts, the ‘plug meta’ has become a little too common and leads to a bad teamplay experience. The changes to team wipes and deposit values, listed below, aim to nudge teams away from focusing entirely on plugging, while still reducing the incentives for third-partying.

Cashout

  • Decreased the percentage of cash in a Cashbox that is awarded for depositing it at the Cashout Station from ~30% to ~20%
  • Increased the percentage of cash in a Cashbox that is awarded for completing a cashout from ~70% to ~80% of the Cashbox’s value

Ranked Tournament (Cashout)

  • Increased the amount of cash lost from a team’s total for a team wipe from 10% to 15%

Specializations

Charge N’ Slam

  • Decreased the damage done by the initial impact on enemies from 130 to 100
  • Decreased the damage done by subsequent hits on enemies from 50 to 40
  • Decreased the minimum damage of the ground slam, based on fall height from 80 to 50

Dev Note: The damage applied by Charge N’ Slam has been quite high for some time and is especially punishing for Light players, especially when repeatedly hit by the charge. We feel these new values offer a fairer experience

Dematerializer

  • Decreased the duration of dematerialized objects from 30s to 15s, causing objects to rematerialize sooner
  • Added the ability for the Dematerializer to remove props attached to wall segments

Dev Note: This change should mean that the Dematerializer now makes clearer holes in the environment that are easier to move through

Guardian Turret

  • Decreased the cooldown from 8s to 3s when manually picking up the Guardian Turret

Winch Claw

  • Decreased the range of the Winch Claw from 12m to 10m

Weapons

Cerberus

  • Increased damage from 9 to 10 per pellet
  • Slightly decreased the size of the pellet distribution, making the weapon more accurate
  • Decreased the reload time for reloading one cartridge from 2.2s to 2.1s
  • Decreased the reload time for reloading two cartridges from 2.4s to 2.25s
  • Decreased the reload time for reloading three cartridges from 2.6s to 2.45s

CL-40

  • Decreased the radius of the weapon’s projectile from 10cm to 5cm, making it easier to avoid accidentally hitting nearby surfaces
  • Decreased self-damage multiplier from 1.6 to 1.25, meaning it will now do less damage to the player using it should they accidentally hit themselves

Dev Note: While the CL-40 has been in a much better place recently than in the past, we feel these small ‘quality of life’ changes will improve the experience of using it

Dagger

  • Added a slight adjustment to FoV when charging up for a secondary attack, to make it clearer when the attack is at maximum charge

FAMAS

  • Decreased the fire rate from 230 RPM to 220 RPM
  • Decreased damage per bullet from 24 to 23

LH1

  • Decreased damage from 48 to 46
  • Decreased rate of fire from 280 RPM to 270 RPM

Model 1887

  • Decreased damage from 13 to 11 per pellet
  • Increased min damage falloff multiplier from 0.6 to 0.7, meaning the Model 1887 retains the same damage at max range as in update 5.7

Pike-556

  • Increased damage from 47 to 50

SR-84

  • Decreased the bolt action animation duration from 1.25s to 1.05s, slightly increasing the SR-84’s rate of fire
  • Increased damage from 115 to 118

Sword

  • Increased the length of the Sword’s secondary attack hit sweep by 55cm

Dev Note: This change reverts the change made in 4.6 and should mean the primary and secondary attacks of the Sword now have a more consistent length

Animation

  • Fixed a bug where player animations would stutter in the intro and celebration sequences
  • Fixed clipping issues on ShAK-50 inspects
  • Fixed an issue where the character’s hands looked broken after throwing the Gravity Vortex
  • Fixed an issue where the red dot sight for the Horizon Hammer R .357 skin wasn’t aligned properly when aiming down sights

  • Fixed visual fidelity of the Final Toss cosmetics

Contracts

  • Fixed “Blind 2 opponents with a Flashbang” so it would not count for teammates

  • Fixed issue making it so that any secondary melee ability would retrigger when held
  • Fixed the Sword lunge not charging after a vault when holding the button down
  • Fixed an issue where Cashout Stations could launch way beyond their intended range when interacting with Jump Pads

Game Modes

General

  • Fixed a rare issue that could lead to locked black screen when reconnecting to a tournament match that just finished
  • Fixed an issue that prevented equipment or customization changes from appearing in-game unless the user navigated away from the screen before the match started
  • Fixing bug where squad respawns would ignore enemy proximity when there are no active objectives on the map

Street Fighter 6 Update 1.18 Out For Battle Changes and Mai Shiranui DLC

[summaraize]

Street Fighter 6 update 1.18 (PS4/XB1), and version 1.018 on PS5/XSX have begun rolling out, and it’s a pretty big update. This update not only adds a new DLC fighter (Mai Shiranui ) but also brings many battle changes, including plenty of fixes.

Here’s a breakdown of everything included in today’s Street Fighter 6 update.

Mai Shiranui  is Now Available in Street Fighter 6 With Update 1.18

  • Bug Fix – Some character guides and tutorials had replays that didn’t play properly, or text that was inaccurate due to changes made during previous battle adjustment updates. These have now been fixed.

  • Bug Fix – Fixed an issue that caused the input buffer time to be shorter than normal in cases where the attack did not hit the opponent after absorbing a blow with super armor.

Drive Reversal (From Block/Recovery)

  • Bug Fix – The backward movement parameters of the first frame have been removed to align with how this technique performs for other characters.
  • Impacted Characters: Kimberly, Blanka

Perfect Parry

  • Adjustment – If a multi-hit attack is Perfect Parried, it is no longer possible to cancel from the 2nd attack and on.
  • This fix was implemented during the 12.02.2024 update, but was rolled back due to a known issue. That issue has now been resolved, so this is being re-implemented with this update.

Marisa

Overdrive Dimachaerus (↓↙← + Two Punches)

  • Adjustment – The Super Art cancel input buffer window timing has been changed to start from frame 10 instead of frame 2.
  • Note: This change has been made to cut down on cases where inputting → + Punch after performing an Overdrive Dimachaerus with ↓↙←↓↙← + Two Punches would result in Marisa’s SA2 activating by mistake.

Dee Jay

Threebeat Combo (Light Punch > Medium Kick > Medium Kick)

Cammy

SA2 Killer Bee Spin/Aerial Killer Bee Spin (↓↙←↓↙← + Punch)

Chun-Li

Crouching Light Kick

  • Bug Fix – Fixed an issue where the jump cancel input buffer window after a hit when using Modern Controls differed from the window timing for Classic Controls.

Zangief

Backward Walk (During Burnout)

  • Bug Fix – Fixed an issue where the first frame of a backwards walk during Burnout behaved the same as walking forward.

Rashid

SA1 Super Rashid Kick (↓↘→↓↘→ + Kick)

  • Bug Fix  – Fixed an issue where this move would not KO the opponent when trading hits.
  • Fixed an issue where the knockback time was considerably short when trading hits.

Ed

Level 1 Psycho Knuckle (Hold Heavy Punch)

  • Bug Fix – Fixed an issue that caused opponents to not be able to move backwards after being hit with this move during the late active frames (beyond frame 10).

Akuma

Forward Ashura Senku (→ + Three Kicks)

  • Adjustment – Expanded the throw hurtbox backwards when moving with this technique to make it more difficult to avoid an opponent’s throw attempts at the moment of passing through them.

M Bison

Drive Impact

Adjustment

  • The timing for the character’s central axis starting to move forward has been changed from frame 13 to frame 2, increasing the amount of forward movement until the end of the active frames.
    • Note: The appearance of the movement until the end of the active frames has not been changed.
  • The attack hitbox and pushbox have been adjusted for change 1, so that the reach and situation on hit are not drastically different from before.
  • The hurtbox and armor hurtbox have been adjusted for change 1.

Terry

Forward Walk

Adjustment

  • The walk animation has been updated to pull the central axis of the character further back so that their appearance on screen better represents their actual position.
    • Note: This is purely a visual adjustment and no changes have been made to the walk’s properties.

Besides the changes above, the latest DLC fighter, Mai Shiranui has also been added to the roster.

Otherwise, that’s all the patch notes that Capcom has provided.

Path of Exile 2 Update 1.014 Unleashed for Patch 0.1.1c; Brings Massive List of Improvements

[summaraize]

The folks at Grinding Gear Games has released a new patch for Path of Exile 2 that houses a good list of improvements and bug fixes. Titled patch 0.1.1c by GGG, console gamers will see this as Path of Exile 2 update 1.014.

Alongside the bug fixes, there are added features as well for respawns in various areas and boss fights in the endgame. The complete patch notes are available below straight from the developers.

Path of Exile 2’s Patch 0.1.1c Addes More Respawns for Endgame Encounters

Improvements and Changes

  • Added up to five respawn attempts for the Twisted Domain area, based on the area difficulty. If the Breach Domain is completed but you die during the Xesht, We Who Are One boss fight, you will revive at the entrance to the boss arena. If you die before completing the Breach Domain, you will revive at the start of the domain. Repeated attempts of the domain will result in no experience from monsters.
  • Added up to five respawn attempts for the Olroth, Origin of the Fall boss fight, based on the fight difficulty.
  • Added up to five respawn attempts for the Crux of Nothingness area, based on the area difficulty. If you die before killing The King of the Mists, reviving will place you inside the boss arena and begin the fight again.
  • Respawns can only be triggered by the person who put in the Expedition Logbook, Breachstone or An Audience with the King, and everyone in your party will be respawned at the same time.
  • Added more checkpoints to several Map areas and improved the placement of some checkpoints.
  • Added the “/ResetAtlas” chat command which can only be used to reset your Atlas when it’s in a bricked state (no available maps).
  • Added Minimap Icons for Strongboxes.
  • Minimap Icons for League mechanics now remain visible regardless of how far away you travel from them, making it easier to return to them later.
  • Hitting inanimate objects, such as Ice Crystals, Tempest Bell or Vine Arrow plants, can no longer cause your trigger skills to generate energy.
  • Vine Arrow plants no longer take damage from hits, and therefore no longer cause your on-hit effects and similar stats to take effect.
  • Minions can now briefly squeeze through smaller gaps if they’ve failed to move for a short period.
  • Channelled skills which scale their costs with attack/cast speed modifiers now explicitly describe this.
  • Unused stats in the skill and character menu interfaces are no longer displayed.
  • The Stun Threshold tooltip now provides more information on stun mechanics.
  • Added customisable targeting behaviour settings when using a controller. These can be viewed and selected in the bind skills menu.
  • Added Charms to the controller HUD.
  • Added a setting to display advanced item information when inspecting items while using a controller.
  • Added dedicated keybinds for confirming choices in various interfaces when using a controller, such as opening a Map in the Map Device, or starting a Trial at the Relic Altar.
  • Increased font size of text in various locations when using a controller.
  • Improved item navigation when using a controller.
  • Improved targeting behaviour for ranged attacks when using a controller.
  • Improved targeting behaviour for Offering skills when using a controller.
  • Made further changes to reduce the aggressive targeting of Tempest Bell when using a controller.
  • Reverted the change from the 0.1.1 patch that allowed you to pick up items and interact with some objects while performing other actions due to issues it introduced.
  • You can now change the name of your Path of Exile 2 characters, or swap the names of two of your characters. You can access this through the My Account page on the website after the patch is deployed.
  • Enabled the following existing cosmetic microtransactions for use in Path of Exile 2: Exile’s Pilfering Ring, Exile’s Pedometer Ring, Evertree Map Devices, Timekeeper’s Map Devices, Peddler’s Rain Hideout Decorations, Octoparasite Pets.
  • Continued to incrementally improve the sound, art, effects and environments.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where you could lose access to the Map Device when migrating out of a Solo Self-found League.
  • Fixed a bug where Zarokh, the Temporal could continue using his spinning lightning skill after death or while heavily stunned.
  • Fixed a bug where Zarokh, the Temporal’s spinning lightning beam skill was not able to hit victims hiding in the corners of the arena.
  • Fixed a bug where players could remain immune to damage after the expiry of a stolen Proximal Tangibility monster modifier.
  • Fixed a bug where on-death elemental explosions from Rare Monster minions would fail to render their telegraph if the corpse was destroyed on hit, such as by shattering the monster.
  • Fixed a bug where the Twin Threats Atlas Passive Skill could sometimes duplicate monsters incorrectly, resulting in monsters that could not be damaged.
  • Fixed a bug that would prevent kills with Damage over Time being assigned correctly to players, most notably any death to poison or bleeding while the monster still had Energy Shield at the time of death.
  • Fixed a bug where it was possible to snapshot increases to the level of Elemental Skills using the Collapsing Horizon Unique Quaterstaff.
  • Fixed a bug where parts of the Atlas could fail to render if they were far away from your most recent map.
  • Fixed a bug where attempting to equip a weapon with a full inventory when using a controller could lose the previously equipped weapon.
  • Fixed some wonky checkpoints in the Steaming Springs and Blooming Fields Map areas.
  • Fixed a bug where The Trialmaster could use his time stop skill and vanish during his fight.
  • Fixed a rare bug where certain quest items were not dropping for some players correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the Chimeral Inscribed Ultimatum quest item dropped by Xyclucian, the Chimera could disappear if you tried to pick it up while your inventory was full.
  • Fixed a bug where Persistent Buffs would be removed upon reaching the maximum overflowed Life with the Couture of Crimson Unique Body Armour equipped.
  • Fixed a bug which caused Direct Minions to cause summoned Ancestral Totems to stop using their skills until resummoned.
  • Fixed a bug where Black Strider’s web mortar impacts could not be blocked or avoided by dodge roll.
  • Fixed a bug where Withering Presence’s frequency and duration values would display as double their actual values in the skill information panel while the skill was active.
  • Fixed a bug where the Crystalline Potential Gemling Legionnaire Ascendancy Passive Skill would cause un-equipped ammo to be set to 0 upon entering a new area.
  • Fixed an issue in couch co-op where one player was able to interact with the Map Device but not open a Map due to them not being the party leader. In couch co-op, Map owners are now made to be the party leader.
  • Fixed various couch co-op bugs where player 2 would open user interface elements of player 1, such as the Endgame Map.
  • Fixed a bug in couch co-op where player 2 was not able to perform fast-travelling between checkpoints.
  • Fixed an issue where you could not view the benefits from Quality on Gems when using a controller.
  • Fixed a bug where the “you have died” screen could persist after being revived in the Arbiter of Ash Boss fight when using a controller.
  • Fixed a bug where charges were not orbiting the Planetary Orb Character Effect microtransactions correctly.
  • Fixed several client and instance crashes. This includes a potential fix for the crash affecting players on Windows 24H2.

Given Grinding Gear Games‘ support, expect more patches to be released soon.

Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Pro Support Detailed; Day One Patch Includes Graphical Modes

[summaraize]

Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Pro support has finally been detailed. The mid-gen refresh console will support better frame rate, higher resolution, and ray tracing.

Graphical modes will be included in the game’s day-one update.

Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Pro Support Includes PSSR, Ray Tracing, and Performance Prioritization

Ray Tracing Off Ray Tracing On

As detailed during today’s Capcom Spotlights, Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Pro support will include PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which will enhance the resolution via upscaling. Though Capcom hasn’t detailed whether the game will run at 120 FPS on the PS5 Pro, they confirmed that players can prioritize either performance or ray tracing in modes that will be part of the day one update.

Ray trace mode will include ray trace reflections, which you can compare in the side-by-side image above. This mode will be restricted to 4K (rending resolution 3072 x 1728) at 30 FPS, while the performance mode will allow the game to be played at 4K (rendering resolution 1920 x 1080) at 60 FPS. Video demonstrations of each mode are available below.

A third mode called “Balanced mode” will also be available for PS5 Pro players. This mode balances the two modes, allowing the game to run in 4K (rendering resolution 1920 x 1404) at 40 FPS.

It’s not a bad list of enhancements, and we’re glad that Capcom is offering an in-between mode that blends performance and resolution. Couple that with VRR, and balance mode might be the go-to mode.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on February 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. An open beta test is scheduled for February 6 – 9 and February 13 – 16, 2025.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered Announced for 2025

[summaraize]

Revealed during today’s Capcom Spotlight stream, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is getting a remastered release later this year! The original was released in 2002 on the PS2, and 23 years later, we’re finally getting a remaster.

It will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will be able to play the remaster via backwards compatibility

Onimusha 2 Is Getting a Remaster Ahead of Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s 2026 Release

There’s not much to go on in terms of expected enhancements, though, given Capcom’s past remasters and collections (such as Megaman and Ace Attorney), we’ll likely see improvements to resolution and performance and some new quality-of-life features. The original Onimusha, Onimusha Warlord, previously got a remaster with the following improvements and features included (via Steam):

“Capcom’s riveting samurai adventure returns! This version includes the original game’s intense swordplay and dramatic revenge story, plus a host of enhancements. Improved controls allow players to move and fight with analog-stick precision. The crisp, high-definition visuals support 16:9 widescreen as well as the original 4:3 resolution display. A new soundtrack brings the feudal Japan setting to life with an air of authenticity and intrigue. Experience this enhanced version of the best-selling action-adventure classic!”

We can probably expect similar enhancements for the sequel remaster.

Now, the bigger question is, can we expect a remaster for Onimusha 3? One can hope, especially since there’s plenty of time before Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets released.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered will launch sometime this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

New Battlefield Game Release Date Targeted Before April 2026

[summaraize]

While EA and DICE will extensively test the new Battlefield game with the community this year with the recently announced Battlefield Labs, there is no guarantee the game will be released this year,

EA themselves revealed this in their latest earning call where the publisher gave a window on when players can expect the latest Battlefield game to hit store shelves.

New Battlefield Games Target Release Date Window Is Between April 2025 and March 31, 2026

Battlefield fans hoping that the new Battlefield game has a chance of releasing this year; well, there’s good news with a side of potentially bad news.

The good news? It might just come out this year, but the bad news is that it also might be released in early 2026. EA confirmed this during their latest quarterly call, where they said the next Battlefield game has a target window of Fiscal Year 2026.

For those who don’t know business talk, EA’s fiscal year doesn’t follow our traditional yearly calendar of January to December. For EA, their Fiscal Year runs from April of the current year to March 31 of the next. This means the next Battlefield game can be released anytime between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

Given that the title is likely in the very early stages of development, with the Battlefield Teams hosting testing via Battlefield Labs with the public, if we were to guess, at the earliest, we would be seeing the new Battlefield game released this fall. Otherwise, there’s a high chance that DICE is going to take their time with this release, given the reception of Battlefield 2042, they probably want to make sure they get it right this time.

As much as I would love to play the new one, I’ll say DICE should take all the time they need. There’s no reason to rush into this, and the community closed tests are a good start to making sure this Battlefield is the best it can be.

Are you hoping the new Battlefield game is released this year, or would you prefer it release in early 2026 to avoid any big competition?

Introducing DirectX 12

We are excited to announce that Overwatch 2 now supports DirectX 12. For the first time, Overwatch 2 will support multiple graphics APIs. This update is part of our ongoing commitment to deliver technology and improvements for our players.

  1. Launch Overwatch 2 and navigate to Options from the main menu.
  2. Under Video, locate the option to select your Graphics API.
  3. Choose DirectX 12 from the dropdown menu.
  4. Restart the game to apply the changes.
  5. Note PCs that cannot support DirectX 12 will not be able to see the option to turn it on in your game.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with the DLSS settings which was causing various rendering issues.
  • Fixed an issue where players may not be able to access HDR calibration.
  • Fixed an issue where the game may ask you to restart to apply changes when no changes have been made.

    • Get in there, Guardians.

Crucible

Trials of Osiris

  • Rewards
    • Added new rewards, including an armor set, Ghost Shell, ship, Sparrow, and emblem.
    • No longer requires Flawless to earn most rewards.
      • Moved Trials away from a Flawless-based system to a “get seven wins on a card” system that rewards win streaks, with multiple tiers and exclusive aesthetic rewards for higher win streaks.
    • Improved the base reward structure of Trials.
      • Pinnacle Challenges now award Trials armor in addition to the Pinnacle gear.
      • Increased the amount of reputation gained on losses by 10x and added a new bonus that is earned by playing in a fireteam with clanmates.
      • Added a new set of base rewards for wins and losses that will be added to the existing Trios completion rewards, but for players in any fireteam configuration.
  • Passages – To help simplify the process, we have reduced the number of passages available to players from Saint-14 to two, one for each initial experience.
    • Lighthouse Passage
      • All you need to do is win seven games on a Lighthouse Passage and you will earn entrance to the Lighthouse, regardless of how many losses are on the card.
      • The Lighthouse Chest rewards are now broken up into two types:
        • Repeatable rewards that you can earn every time you complete a Lighthouse Passage and open the chest.
        • Weekly win streak rewards (from one to seven wins in a row), which can be earned once per week and must be true win streaks; there are no mercies here.
    • Trials Passage
      • We want to provide a separate place in Trials that is more like Iron Banner in terms of rewards and matchmaking to get additional players into the ecosystem.
        • Utilizes Weekly Performance-Based Matchmaking if everyone in your fireteam is on a Completed Lighthouse, Flawless, or Trials Passage.
        • Trials of Osiris Passage provides a healthy reputation bonus of 75 – 150 per win, depending on your current rank with Saint-14.

Skill

  • Changed how skill is tracked and updated for all modes.
    • Objectives are now on par with base kills for points.
    • Additional points are granted for kills that are in service to the objective.
    • Removed multiple “farmable” points like damage dealt, revives, and longest kill streak.

Player Score Stat and Post Game Scoreboards

  • A new stat called Player Score is displayed on our post-game scoreboards, which is a direct reflection of how many points you earned towards updating your skill rating in a game.
  • The post-game scoreboards of all modes now show Opponents Defeated and Combat Efficiency.
  • Added additional stats to the scoreboards of more modes, including Longest Chain (highest multi-kill medal) and Longest Streak.

    • Crucible Labs – Various modes, Open Skill, replaces either Quickplay, Small Team Quickplay, or Modified Quickplay depending on what mode is being tested.

Crucible Specific Ability Tuning

  • Baseline Crucible ability cooldown penalty increased from 15% to 20%.
    • Supers go from 20% to 25%.
  • Prismatic Only
    • Unpowered Knockout melees will no longer spawn Diamond Lances on kills against players.
    • Active energy refund on Prismatic decreased by 20% in Crucible.
      • This affects energy refunds from things like Gambler’s Dodge, Shiver Strike, and armor mods, but generally excludes Exotic effects.
    • Added a 10% cooldown penalty to Supers so that there is more of a tradeoff to picking these subclasses in modes where Super timing can be vitally important, like Trials or Competitive.

Lobby Balance

  • We have made some changes to the Paired Player lobby balancer so that it will fall back to the Average Lobby Rank balancer less often when dealing with fireteams.

Map Weighting

  • 6v6 Game Modes:
    • Reduced Vostok and Multiplex from average weight to below average weight.
    • Increased Burnout from average weight to above average weight.

    • Increased weight of Burnout Clash and Dead Cliffs Clash from above average to high weight to compensate.

Game Mode Rules

  • Dominion
    • Zone now spawns after 40s, instead of 30s.
    • Zone takes 20s to capture, up from 15s.
    • Neutral Special ammo crate spawns at 30s, instead of 20s.
  • Showdown
    • Revives no longer subtract a point from the opposing team.
  • Competitive Collision
    • New logic will prevent the next zone from spawning too near to the active zone.
    • Contesting a zone will now flip it to neutral so neither team gains points, as opposed to the current behavior where the team that owns the zone continues to accrue points while it is in the contested state.
    • The new zone will now show up 20 seconds before it opens, instead of 15 seconds, to give teams more time to move to the new area and contest the capture.
  • Zone Control
    • Decrease the frequency of Heavy ammo spawning to align it to regular Crucible modes like control at two minutes per spawn (120 seconds) from previously 60-second intervals.
    • Remove Heavy ammo locations to non-neutral areas such as zones A and C locations to make acquiring Heavy ammo more fair.
  • Iron Banner Tribute
    • Kills now contribute points.
    • The second hunt now appears dynamically based on the score achieved during the first hunt.
    • Dunking crests now grants Super energy.

Competitive

  • The quit protection timer has been increased to 90 seconds, to make sure that if a player is AFK at the beginning of the match and gets kicked, their teammates will still benefit from the loss forgiveness.
  • Competitive Point System Rework
    • Removed the expected rank system entirely and streamlined the point gains and losses.
      • Wins and losses – Add or remove a base value of 100 points.
      • Performance bonus – Linked to Player Score and Efficiency, rewards between -10 and +10 points.
      • Contribution scalar – This system can grant a bonus of up to +50 to either reduce the points lost on defeat or grant additional points for a win, and will be utilized in two circumstances:
        • First, to help offset occurrences where some players contributed significantly more to the outcome of the game than others.
        • Second, it can also be applied as quitter compensation when a player has left earlier in the match, but the remaining players continue to finish it out.
      • Skill Modifier – Based on the opposing team’s average skill compared to your team’s average skill. Capped at -20 to +20.

Raids and Dungeons

Salvation’s Edge

  • Changed the memento acquisition criteria for Salvation’s Edge and Garden of Salvation Raids.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented combatants from withdrawing when the Witness is defeated.
  • Adjusted the Witness limb shaders to improve legibility when colorblind modes are enabled.

Vesper’s Host

Titan

  • Citan’s Ramparts
    • Removed several downsides applied by Assault Barricade to bring it in line with base Towering Barricade behavior. Cumulatively, these changes result in a Towering barricade you can shoot through with no other downsides while Citan’s is equipped (in PVE – see below).
      • Increased barricade health from 400 to 500.
      • No longer increases barricade cooldown.

  • Eternal Warrior
    • Final blows with Fists of Havoc now grant extended Super duration.
  • An Insurmountable Skullfort
    • Now grants energy to Arc melee abilities when hitting targets with melee attacks. Amount granted varies based on the melee used.

      • Tracking on the waves has been enhanced.

Battlefield Labs Confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series and Not Just PC, PC Requirements Revealed

[summaraize]

With yesterday’s announcement of Battlefield Labs, some might have assumed that it’ll be just for PC, similar to past Battlefield games’ CTE (Community Test Environment). Thankfully, we can confirm that won’t be the case, as both PS5 and Xbx Series X|S owners can take part in the testing phase too (assuming you get picked).

Publisher Electronic Arts confirmed this, as well as that console players who wish to participate will need an active PlayStation Plus subscription and/or Xbox Game Pass Core (formerly Xbox Live Gold).

Battlefield Labs Is the First Testing Platform of Battlefield Available on Consoles

On the official Battlefield Labs portion of EA’s site, an FAQ was made available where it confirms the platforms.

“Battlefield Labs will be available on PC via the EA App, PlayStation 5 (PlayStation Plus subscription required) and Xbox Series X|S (Xbox Game Pass Core (formerly known as Xbox Live Gold) required),” it notes.

Other topics covered by EA concerning BF Labs confirm that a “few thousand players” will be able to participate, comprised of Battlefield veterans and new players alike.

Per EA, ” The invite for the first tests will be for a few thousand players – both veteran Battlefield players and those that have not played before – located in Europe and North America.

We do have plans to expand server locations, alongside invite numbers growing to tens of thousands, in the future.”

EA also plans on publishing recaps and updates on learnings, alongside what actions they are taking. This means that even if you’re not actively testing out the new Battlefield game, you’ll still be able to take note of the direction the studio is heading.

Battlefield Labs PC Requirements Revealed

Here are the Battlefield Labs PC requirements (note that this is not the requirements for Battlefield 2025, but just for BF Labs).

Here’s a table based on the information you provided:

Specification PC Minimum Specs PC Recommended Specs
CPU Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Intel Core i7-10700 / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU Nvidia RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT 6GB Nvidia RTX 3060Ti / AMD Radeon RX 6700-XT
Memory 16GB 16GB
Storage Minimum 30GB Minimum 30GB

Again, I want to stress that these are the requirements for Battlefield Labs only, not the final game.

In previous Battlefield testing programs, it was only made available on PC, which was understandable given the closed nature of consoles. This is very good news that DICE and EA have decided to include consoles, and a sign that the developers are keeping up with the times.

We’ll have more news regarding Battlefield Labs and the new Battlefield, which is assumed to be released later this year, so make sure to bookmark MP1st.

Battlefield 2025 is in development by DICE, Criterion, Motive and Ripple Effect for release on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
