Rumor: Valve Developing Steam Console to Compete With PlayStation and Xbox

[summaraize]

Valve has previously confirmed that the Steam Deck 2 will only be released when it can achieve a generational leap in performance without compromising battery life.

However, it now appears Valve is aiming even higher by developing a console that could directly compete with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox. This new platform would be an even bigger move for the company, building on the success of the Steam Deck.

Valve Reportedly Developing a New Console

The rumor came from the well-known leaker eXtas1s, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that Valve has been working on a new console to compete directly with the Sony and Microsoft consoles currently available in the market. However, the leaker didn’t give more details about the project, only mentioning that the company is working closely with AMD to use their RDNA 4 technology.

At the moment, there are no official confirmations regarding the development of such a console. If these rumors turn out to be true, it will be interesting to see how this new system will work and how it will compete with the current PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and possibly even future consoles.

It’s also worth noting that Valve previously attempted to enter the console market with the Steam Machine in 2015. However, this idea did not achieve much success at the time. The concept behind the Steam Machines was to offer small PCs, either made by Valve or other manufacturers, running SteamOS (with the option to boot Windows). The goal was to combine the benefits of a PC with a simpler design and the ease of use of a regular console, but it didn’t turn out as the developers had hoped.

In other news, eXtas1s claims that several Xbox titles could make their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. The rumored games include Diablo 4, Fallout 4, Starfield, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and many more!

Helldivers 2’s Latest Update 1.002.101 Enables Emotes While Flying, Slots in Balance Changes and More

Arrowhead Game Studios has released the latest Helldivers 2 update, 1.002.101, on PS5 and PC. This update finally enables emoting while flying (or ragdolling), which should spice up those encounters.

There’s also a good chunk of balance changes slotted in as well, which affects spray weapons’ gas effect duration and more. There’s a lot to take in, so go read up on what’s new in the official Helldivers 2 patch notes for February 4, 2025.

Helldivers 2 Now Lets Players Emote While Flying or in Ragdolling via Patch 1.002.101

Helldivers 2 Update 1.001.203

Overview

  • Spray weapons gas effect duration
  • Emoting while flying or ragdolling
  • FRV camera and handling tweaks
  • AX/TX-13 “Guard Dog” Dog Breath rework
  • Balancing
  • Crash Fixes
  • Weapon Fixes
  • Stratagem Fixes

Balancing

changes

  • The duration of the gas status effect from spray weapons has been increased from 6 to 10 sec
  • Implemented a timer for the Illuminate dropship wreckages to despawn to prevent them from obstructing paths in the colonies

Helldiver

  • The Ministry of Humanity has added a clause to its Principles of Correct Posture for Safe Lifting, now allowing Helldivers to jog while carrying two-handed items such as barrels and SEAF Artillery Rounds

FRV

  • Helldivers have now also been authorized to deploy grenades and stratagems while leaning out from the FRV
  • Tuned FRV handling for a better driving experience when cornering

Sidearms

  • PLAS-15 Loyalist
    • Starting magazines increased from 2 to 3
    • Spare magazines increased from 4 to 5

Stratagem Support Weapons

  • TX-41 Sterilizer
    • Removed the crosshair drift recoil
    • Decreased the camera climb recoil
    • The duration of the gas status effect from spray weapons has been increased from 6 to 10 sec

Armor Passives

  • After hearing player feedback, we have decided not to fix a bug with the Siege Ready Armor Passive which gives more ammo to all magazine-based weapons, instead of just primary weapons as described. We will eventually update the Armory description to reflect this but for now we’re evaluating if it’s causing any other additional unforeseen bugs

Backpacks

  • AX/TX-13 “Guard Dog” Dog Breath
    • Has been reworked to increase its effectiveness and to ensure it remains distinct, focusing on its unique gas-based mechanics
    • It will now preserve ammo by only prioritizing enemies unaffected by the gas status effect. Once an enemy is affected by gas the drone will move on and target another unaffected enemy
  • The targeting logic has been reworked to prevent the drone from roaming too far. The origin of the targeting will be from the Helldivers position rather than the drone itself
  • The targeting range has been increased from 10 to 20m
  • The duration of the gas status effect from spray weapons has been increased from 6 to 10 sec

Stratagems

  • MD-6 Anti-Personnel Minefield
    • Cooldown decreased from 180 to 120 sec
    • Damage increased from 350 to 700
    • The deployment spread of mines has been increased by 20% to minimize the risk of chain explosions
  • MD-I4 Incendiary Mines
    • Cooldown decreased from 180 to 120 sec
    • Damage increased from 210 to 300
    • The deployment spread of mines has been increased by 20% to minimize the risk of chain explosions
    • MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines
      • Cooldown decreased from 180 to 120 sec
    • SH-20 Ballistic Shield Backpack
      • Now blocks melee attacks until it breaks from taking enough damage

Helldivers 2 Update 1.001.202

Fixes

Resolved Top Priority issues:

  • You can once again emote while falling or ragdolling! It should no longer reduce fall damage, but you’ll be able to freely express yourself as you fall to your imminent death or severe injuries – Nothing a stim can’t fix!
  • Fixed Illuminate spawner ship shields not taking impact grenade damage
  • Fixed an issue with collision gaps inside the Illuminate spawner ship, preventing grenades thrown in close proximity to the door from destroying the ships
  • Health packs now fully restore all of the Helldiver’s stims
  • High damage weapons will now detonate spawned Hellbombs on the map

Crash Fixes, Hangs and Soft-locks:

  • Fixed a crash that occurred when aborting missions with the Democracy Space Station effects active on them
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when hot-joining a mission on a planet with the Democracy Space Station present
  • Fixed a crash caused by quickly switching between different emotes before another client interacted with the emoting player
  • Reduced the chance for crashes caused by fires
  • Fixed a rare crash that occurred at the end of the drop-in sequence when hot-joining a game in session
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when the player returned to the ship while reloading their primary weapon
  • Fixed a soft-lock during drop-in when the host left or disconnected the session right after loadout
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when repeatedly changing armor pieces in the armory
  • Fixed a crash that occurred after finishing the tutorial and after naming your Destroyer
  • Fixed a crash that occurred during extraction
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when returning to the ship during heavy projectile fire
  • Fixed a crash for clients when the host was holding a carryable objective and quit the game
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when a player left the game when an encounter started
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when changing text language
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when reloading the SG-20 Halt

Social Issues & Matchmaking

  • Improved the matchmaking logic to better match players with players from nearby regions
  • You’ll now be more likely to get matched with the same difficulty lobbies as the one you have currently selected
  • Fixed an issue where the chat history was cleared when going to a mission and returning from it

Weapons and Stratagems

  • Opening and closing the text chat while in an emplacement now allows the player to remain in the emplacement instead of switching to their weapon
  • Fixed Arc weapons not reliably hitting the Impaler’s tentacles if aimed at the lower parts of the tentacle
  • The E/AT-12 Anti-Tank Emplacement now has the correct armor penetration tag in the ship menu
  • Stratagem turrets will no longer target Illuminate Tesla Towers
  • Fixed a visual bug where heat weapons would show numbers over the progress bar in the weapon wheel menu
  • Melee weapons should no longer send civilian cars and other objects in the world flying long distances
  • B-1 Supply Pack will now once again provide stims to other players. Remember Helldiver, sharing is caring!
  • Fixed a bug where players could get stuck in the E/AT-12 Anti-Tank Emplacement after depleting all of its ammunition

FRV

  • Following an investigation into the effects of severe survivorship bias during FRV Impact Testing, all FRVs have been reinforced. Minor parking mishaps will no longer result in catastrophic FRV explosions
  • General improvements to the FRV camera to make it look cooler and prevent it from getting stuck underground when driving downhill. Absolute cinema!
  • Reduced the chance FRVs get dropped on rooftops when being called in
  • The FRV movement key bindings should now accept non-QWERTY keyboard inputs
  • Fixed a bug where some enemies such as the Brood Commander was launched away further than intended when hit by the FRV

Helldiver

  • Fixed an issue where player ragdolling into the FRV would cause the vehicle to be yeeted into space
  • Fixed an issue preventing Helldivers from climbing and vaulting over civilian cars
  • Helldivers should no longer slide around on the ground after ragdolling from a blast (despite it being the year of the snake)
  • Fixed an issue where ragdolling into shallow water caused a stuck prone gliding animation
  • Fixed an issue where the Helldiver was not playing the sample pick up animations

Enemies

  • Fixed a small visual bug with the Stalker’s tongue (you don’t want to know what it took to fix it)
  • Fixed an issue where enemies wouldn’t react to missed shots from projectiles or melee attacks near them

Miscellaneous Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where clients would trigger the wrong audio when waiting for the host to join the loadout
  • Fixed an issue of Helldivers exiting the hellpod right after readying up and before transitioning to the loading screen
  • Fixed an issue of civilians being blocked from finding the shuttle door during Emergency Evacuation missions
  • Purple question marks should be encountered less frequently during Illuminate missions on Sandy and Arctic planets
  • Fixed the floating head syndrome affecting Helldivers donning the AC-2 Obedient armor while using certain helmets
  • Fixed a bug that was introduced in December where weapons with lower armor penetration than the target’s armor incorrectly dealt one (1) damage rather than zero (0), resulting in misleading visual feedback and negligible extra damage to enemies and Helldivers alike
  • Enemies will now start sinking into the ground when killed near terminals or the extraction point, preventing players from being physically blocked

That’s about it. Once the devs release another patch, expect it up here on MP1st.

Next Mass Effect Game Still in “Pre-Production” Despite Studio Shake Up, Confirms Project Director

[summaraize]

Following news that BioWare has been silently hit with layoffs due to Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s commercial underperformance, the studio confirmed they are all in the next Mass Effect game.

However, even with that statement, don’t expect to see anything from the game anytime soon, as the developers are still in pre-production of the next entry in the sci-fi RPG.

The Next Mass Effect Game Is Years Away From Release

In a blog post by the studio, they explained how many of the studio’s members have been assigned to other projects, given the Mass Effect game is early in development. The thing is, BioWare is getting asked what’s happening to the studio, given the layoff chatter, and Bloomberg even mentioned that there are now less than 100 people left in the studio.

Over on Twitter/X, Mike Gamble, the Project Director of the new Mass Effect game, said, “As the notes have said, we are still in pre-production.” This plainly states that actual development has not started yet, which means we’re far from even seeing a gameplay trailer for it, much less an actual release. I wouldn’t be surprised if this targets the PS6 and whatever console Microsoft calls the next Xbox.

With the game still in pre-production, it’s understandable BioWare will have other people reassigned, given they have nothing else to do. Of course, this wouldn’t be this big of an issue if Dragon Age: The Vielguard sold well, which publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed it hasn’t, missing its mark by 50%. Given this confirmation, expect to hear little about the new Mass Effect game or even what it’s called officially.

We’re calling it the “next Mass Effect game,” “the new Mass Effect game,” or even “Mass Effect 5” until EA officially gives it a title, which won’t be for a while. For reference, EA’s upcoming Battlefield game is assumed to be out this year, and we just got our first gameplay look at it today and EA still hasn’t revealed its title.

New Battlefield First Gameplay Look Surfaces as BF Labs Officially Announced – Video, Screenshots and More Unveiled

[summaraize]

While we already reported on how Battlefield Labs will be the new testing platform for EA’s upcoming Battlefield game, the official announcement brought in new info about that, and even our first look at gameplay of the new Battlefield game!

It’s just a few seconds long, but even so, it should be enough to whet the appetites of Battlefield veterans, given it confirms a modern military setting, vehicles, and destruction.

First Glimpse of Battlefield 2025 Surfaces With a New Teaser

While the majority of the video is DICE and EA talking about Battlefield Labs, there is a super-short snippet at the end where we see actual, pre-alpha gameplay. We even get to see the destruction elements, which seem up to par with Battlefield or even BF4.

We’ve made a .gif of the gameplay portion since it looks so glorious and needs to be rewatched repeatedly. Remember: this is pre-alpha gameplay, and as such, this is not representative of the final version of the game.

Alongside that, we’ve also hosted a number of screenshots from the short gameplay reveal, in which we see the particle effects, destruction mechanics, and more.

As for Battlefield Labs, the sign-ups are now live, though prepare for a queue since EA’s site seems to be overwhelmed by the number of people trying to get their names on the list.

In the press release sent by EA, it calls Battlefield Labs the “most ambitious community testing program in franchise history.”

The first phase of the test will go live “in the coming weeks,” though not exactly specified just when.

Vince Zampella, the boss of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, said, ” “I’ve been playing Battlefield long before I joined the team. This game has so much potential. To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that.”

Needless to say, we’re excited about this new Battlefield game and hope it returns the series to its former glory. We’ll be keeping an eye out for anything Battlefield, so make sure to stay locked in here on MP1st for the latest Battlefield news.

So far, DICE and the rest of EA’s first-party studios are on the right track with the in-development Battlefield game. Let’s hope this continues as we get to know more about it.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Review – Fortune Favors the Brave

[summaraize]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes everything fans loved about the first game and pushes it further, promising a more refined and immersive medieval experience. With tweaks to combat, story, and world-building, it’s clear the developers at Warhorse Studios listened to player feedback to craft what might be their greatest masterpiece yet. ‘

With expectations at an all-time high for the sequel, Warhorse Studios puts everything they have to deliver perhaps one of this year’s best games.

Besides the mentioning of the first game’s ending and how that ties into the sequel, this review is SPOILER-FREE

An Adventure Life Is a Life for Me

Our tale begins right where the original Kingdom Come Deliverance ended, with our protagonist, Henry of Skalitz, traveling and acting as a bodyguard to his newfound friend and heir to the town of Rattay, Sir Hans Capon. As we learned from both the ending of the original and the opening of the sequel, Sir Hans Capon has been tasked with delivering a letter to Lord Otto Von Bergow, a powerful and wealthy nobleman who presides over Trosky Castle.

But the letter that Hans, Henry, and a band of misfits accompanying them have been sent to deliver isn’t just some letter. No, it’s one right from a rebellious alliance that has sworn to take back Bohemia from the clutches of King Sigismund, a treacherous king who started an invasion of the country, which saw Henry’s hometown of Skalitz burned down, along with the brutal murders of all his love ones. The letter seeks to enlist Bergow’s aid to take back the country and rescue and restore power to the rightful king of Bohemia.

With this being an RPG set during medieval times, you can probably put the two together and assume things don’t go as smoothly as Hans and Henry had hoped. Saying things go bad would be an understatement, as it’s more of a catastrophic fuck up that leads the pair to have to fight for their survival.

That’s about as far as I’ll go with any story details, as I firmly believe it’s best to go in as blind as possible. But I will say that in my 50-hour-plus playthrough that was purely the story quest, I was left utterly floored by what Warhorse Studios has achieved in the sequel.

From a story perspective, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is far bigger, better, and bolder than the original in nearly every way.

It helps that the sequel has a much bigger budget to tap into, meaning it has more resources, such as better motion technology, scanning equipment, and all that fancy stuff, all of which Warhorse Studios puts to great use. The opening alone demonstrates how far the game has come in technology, as characters are better at portraying emotions and the likes than in the first game, thanks to its improved motion-capturing technology.

While I enjoyed the first game’s story, there’s no denying that it lacked depth regarding how characters showed emotions. Henry especially always looked like he never gave a fuck, as he looked at you through the screen with a cold thousand-yard stare. Sure, he’d crack a smile occasionally, but you could never honestly tell what was happening in his head as he sometimes came off completely emotionless. Most of us chalked it up to PTSD from having seen his parents killed in front of him. Either way, I found it rather distracting to the experience. There was some serious heavy lifting from the voice acting department when portraying emotions in the first game.

That’s not an issue here, as all the characters bolster a wide range of emotions with improved visuals and better motion capturing, each perfectly matched for whatever the scene calls for. Coming off a fresh run of the first game, it’s easy to see how far that can help push a game’s narrative. Plenty of times in the story, characters look at each other, conveying their words solely with their facial expression. It’s being able to tell a story without any actual words that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 manages to perfect, and as the old saying goes, a picture can be worth a thousand words. One of my favorite moments in the game is when the music plays dramatically, and you can see a thousand things racing through the character’s mind, all because of how expressive their face can become. You can tell when a character does or doesn’t like something you say a lot better, which is pretty crucial given how decision-driven the game is.

I have to hand it to the stellar cast and their performances here, too. Like in the first game, the English voice acting is excellent on most, if not all, of the main story characters. That’s not to say I didn’t notice some bad ones because there definitely are some, but the characters you’ll spend most of your time with all knock it out of the park in both their vocal and motion performances. They’ve really brought life to their characters, making each one of them feel believable. That’s not to say they weren’t in the first game, because they were. Still, Warhorse clearly realized how much improvement they could bring to their characters with better tools early on in the sequel’s development and capitalized on it when building their world of characters and the stories that revolve around them.

This is reflected in the game’s writing, which is superb if you’re a fan of classic medieval-setting books, movies, and shows with deep character development. Heck, I would even go as making a Game of Thrones comparison. While that show has dragons, White Walkers, and other mythical and magical entities that are always fun to see on the screen, the show has always been more of a grimdark fantasy rather than a high fantasy. It’s grounded in most aspects, and wow, some of the writing and character interactions we’ve seen played out on the show are right up there with the best (putting that final season aside). You get so absorbed in this made-up universe, which is precisely how I felt with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s story. From the very start, all the way to the end, I was fully invested, determined to see how every plotline unfolded in the main quest, and where the fate if our characters ended.

Now, because the series is based on real-life history, there are some things they can’t deviate from despite being able to tell some aspects of history a little differently. That means that while I loved the main story told here, some things can feel a little unresolved, with the pacing being off and some segments going longer than they should have. It’s more of a warning to those hoping we would see the story differently than how real history played out, though the game does have non-historic characters that, too, have unresolved lines that felt to pave the road for DLC or a possible sequel. Take that as you will. I prefer it when games tie up all loose ends, but even then, I’ll say the story of Kingdome Come Deliverance 2 doesn’t disappoint with its unwavering tale.

When you aren’t playing the main story, the world, Bohemia, offers what feels like an endless supply of side quests and activities. I’ll talk about the activities in the gameplay section, but Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has you covered with some of the best sidequests I’ve seen in an RPG for those who love doing side questing. Yes, I say this, knowing that games like The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, and many others exist, are amongst my favorites.

Usually, I dread playing yet another open-world title because, more often than not, the side content consists of cookie-cutter missions. Play a few, and you’ve likely seen all the game has to offer. It’s why I push so many open-world games out or invest so little time because I hate knowing that outside of the main story, there’s really nothing to do. Well, that’s not the case here, as Warhorse has loaded the world with sidequests that all feel unique with a standalone story. Mind you, some of them are really short, and not all of them are good, but more times than not, I was completely surprised by where the story of a side quest was going.

I remember one particular mission where I had to explore a network of underground tunnels because the locals reported something strange. What seemed like an innocent exploration quest soon turned into a horror experience. In another quest, I was tasked with helping with the opening of a new bathhouse in town. It ended up being a much longer quest than I anticipated, but it gave me a full-featured cutscene that had easily one of the most hilarious moments in the game. Oh, and for those 80s action movie lovers out there, there’s something really special waiting for you in one of the side quests that I’m sure will produce a million different online GIFs.

That’s not to say that the story doesn’t have humor or anything crazy in it. There’s plenty of clearly inspired Monty Python and the Holy Grail kind of humor sprinkled throughout it, but the side quests really let Warhorse get all kinds of creative, giving us some of the best laughs and some of the most serious and heartfelt moments in the game. The content is well worth playing through, and you could easily get sidetracked by it.

Random encounters are also back for the sequel, and in a much better way. Mind you, you’ll still come across your everyday beggar, trader, thief, crazed wolf, and other dangers. But now you’ll find some unique NPCs while traveling and using fast-travel. Some will offer world lore and want to camp out with you, while others even give you a quest to take. If you’re lucky (or maybe unfortunate?), you may even bump into a mysterious NPC who offers nothing but a short conversation that leaves a massive chill down your spine. If you’re a fan of how Red Dead Redemption 2 handled its random encounters, with you just exploring and running into things that had no quest markers or anything, you’re going to love the random encounters here.

I think my favorite part about Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is how it manages to surprise me by hiding things from the player. There are actually a lot of hidden stories in the game, things that don’t have a clear quest or objective point. Though the story has a set path to follow, there are entire parts in the campaign that you can miss out on if you don’t pay attention to the dialogue and hints offered and ignore the alternatives. I was surprised when I went to rescue a character who was being held captive. I saved them by sneaking up and stealth killing their captors. I ended up failing the mission a few minutes later for other reasons, which checkpointed me before the encounter, and it turned out the character I killed actually had a whole set of branching dialogue that I could interact with, which further revealed a side objective that led to easily one of the best story moments that I almost missed.

I had another instance where I was interacting with a character that seemed perfectly normal. With a little bit of investigation, I found out they weren’t who they were claiming to be, which surprisingly gave me even more new dialogue choices later in the game for another section. Again, there wasn’t a quest marker or an objective to tell me that the mechanics were just there to figure it out and play around with. The game is not a sandbox, but it has a bunch of mechanics that make certain aspects sandbox, and they’re done so brilliantly and in the most unexpected ways.

War Is a Nasty Business

When the first Kingdom Come Deliverance was released in 2018, there were many mixed opinions about it. The general consensus was more favorable than negative, but plenty of criticism still existed, mostly stemming from how buggy and unoptimized the experience was. Even today, after all the patches it’s received, it’s still fairly buggy.

Going into the sequel, I was very worried about how much more ambitious the team was aiming for this time and what that meant for polishing. But to my surprise, after over 100 hours of playtime, I can honestly say that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is not only a stunning game in terms of visuals but also, for the most part, a very polished and well-optimized experience.

Don’t get that mixed up with me saying there are no bugs. There are some that the studio told us would be fixed by launch. However, none of the bugs I encountered were detrimental to the experience.

The performance on various tested PC builds was impressive to see, though. I ran it through a 3060, 3080, 4070, and 4090 PC builds, with framerate aiming between 60 FPS and 120 FPS. Resolution scaled from 1080P to 4K, and though the higher setting did struggle a bit at 120 FPS plus, it was without any upscalers such as DLSS or FSR. That’s actually great news to hear because it means Warhorse took time to optimize the game rather than rely on an upscaler as a clutch.

Of course, everyone’s experience is going to be different than mine, but so far, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is looking to be an exceptional experience when it comes to performance, visuals, and level of polishing. Granted, you’ll still encounter some bugs, as is the nature of open-world games, but it’s far from being a mess.

Now, with that out of the way, let’s shift focus over to the other big criticism that many had about the game: the gameplay.

I’ll be pretty upfront about this. If you didn’t like the combat and other gameplay mechanics (lockpicking, pickpocketing, etc) of the first game, well, you probably won’t be too fond of it here. That’s not to say that Warhorse Studios didn’t see the complaints, as they’ve certainly improved many aspects of it, making it much more accessible than the first game. But those improvements feel more like a refinement that streamlines the experience better. Compared to the first game, the sequel is much easier to get into. Weapons, for example, have been revamped in many areas, the most notable being combos. Each weapon type now has an exclusive combo list. That means that how you use these weapons now has a better flow to them, as you aren’t awkwardly swinging one around because it shares a combo with another weapon type like in the first.

The directional input is still here, but there are four directions instead of five. It’s a small change, but just enough to make it more fluid. Dodging and parrying are also easier to do during combat. As I said, it’s more accessible to the point where fights feel more manageable than the first game.

You’ll still get your shit wrecked if you aren’t careful, but this time around, you’ll be forgiven for accidentally hitting the wrong direction. Don’t mistake accessibility for making it easier than the first, though, as combat can be challenging. Those wanting a challenge won’t have to worry, as the game proved to me many times throughout my playthrough that it can be pretty hard If you’re ill-equipped.

But this time around, you won’t have the jankyness of the first game to blame. Well, mostly, the physics-based combat can still be janky if you aren’t paying attention to how you’re swinging a weapon. But when it flows right, and you’re hitting those combos, blocking attacks, and pulling parry, that feeling is just perfection. It’s like being a little kid and playing with friends with make-believe swords and swinging them at each other. You felt like a badass knight, even though you can look back now and realize how dumb you look. At least in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, you not only have that same feeling, but now you can also look the part in the game.

Speaking of looking the part, the sequel introduces a significant quality-of-life improvement: the ability to store three outfits. This is massive, as it allows you to make builds for specific situations without unequipping and equipping new gear each time. Know you’re going into the big city and want to be able to barter with shopkeepers and want to look the part (for higher stats) to have a better chance? Well, you can make an outfit for that. What about a build that is purely used for sneaking around at night? You can do that, too, along with an armored set for whoever you go off to fight enemies. It’s such a simple addition that adds a ton to the experience.

Now, let’s move on to what I think everyone thought were the most tedious parts of the original: the “mini-games.” They’re all back, plus a new smithing one that lets you craft weapons, something oddly missing from the first game despite Henry being a Blacksmith.

I won’t lie, these still sort of suck, but I suppose they remain in the theme of the “sim-like” nature of the game.

The new smithing one is pretty straightforward, at least, and not too complicated or challenging to do. You can only craft weapons, so armors are still things you need to steal or buy. Smithing is probably the most relaxing of the mini-games, and it does add a level of immersion that fits nicely with everything else.

Pickpocketing and lockpicking are still as annoying as they were in the first game. Yes, you can level them up to make them super easy, like in the original, but it feels like such a chore to do when you’d be better off just knocking people out and robbing from them to skip the minigames. It’s what I ended up doing for the most part until I had my thievery level high enough, but I was hoping both of these mechanics would have been better improved. They did improve the controller support for these minigames, so they function better, but I can’t say I’m a big fan of doing any of these actions. There’s a reason why lockpicking mods are so popular for the first game, and that’ll probably still be the case here, along with pickpocketing, despite becoming easier as you level up.

There are other “mini-games” in the game, but overall, I found these to be the weakest part of the game. Thankfully, you can cruise through practically the entire story without ever really needing to use any of those mechanics outside of a few missions here and there. Most of it is optional, and yes, it will make the game easier to play if you actually master them, but you don’t have to. My lockpicking skill was basically the same level from the start up until the end of the game, and I had no troubles as there are so many other mechanics to substitute most things.

One such mechanic is knocking people out entirely and then robbing them. That lets you skip the pickpocketing minigame. Sometimes, you’ll get lucky and find a key to one of those high-level chests, bypassing the need to lockpick it. That does open you up to another system, which is the crime system.

Much like the first game, a wanted and reputation system folds under the crime system. It’s far more improved this time and easily one of the game’s biggest highlights. The more good you do, the more respected you are, while the more bad you do, the higher the consequences will be. All the NPCs in the game have the ability to improve your reputation, but they also can ruin it and report you for any serious crime.

If people catch you sneaking around, they’ll remember that and relay it around, and before you know it, you’ll become known as the town’s thief or the guy who likes to sneak around people’s homes at night and do weird stuff to them. If you refuse to bathe, people will call you out on your stench, making the rudest remarks. Your stench will even alert people you’re trying to sneak by. On the other hand, if you’re known for helping people and being a good samaritan, people will also notice that. Maybe you want to be known as a rich nobleman who goes on a spending spree every time you’re in town, or maybe you want to go around and save people from bandits and the like, becoming their knight in shining armor.

I started my game by trying to be a master thief, eventually succeeding. I’d go around town, robbing people without noticing and then selling their goods. Sometimes, I would even sell the goods back to them, hoping they wouldn’t notice (and they could) that it was their stolen item. I eventually decided to create a character who was simply a blacksmith, living up to Henry’s family reputation. I worked hours upon hours smithing new weapons, going into town, and selling them, which earned me a good amount of coins for some honest work.

Eventually, I decided I wanted to continue through the story, which meant I’d be going up against many enemies, so I decided to level up some of my swordsmanship skills, learning the art of swinging a blade and other weapons. Once I did that, I went out, found high-level armor that made me look like a badass knight, and ventured on with the campaign. I felt like I was the best swordsman in Bohemia with how decked out my character was, and it showed in combat as I swung my steel through the flesh of my enemies.

I love how much freedom Warhorse Studios gave us in this game to do as we please and play how we want to play. As I said, it’s not a true sandbox, but it’s pretty darn close regarding things you can do in the world and the gameplay around it. I can’t tell you how many times I got so lost, so absorbed in what I was doing, that when I stopped to check the time, hours upon hours had already passed. I would tell myself, alright, just a few more minutes, and I’m going to bed, only to see it was already 2:00 in the morning when it felt like midday moments ago.

Yeah, some stuff goes on longer than it should, but at the same time, that’s the charm the first game brought. It is a sim-like experience that puts us in the shoes of someone living during the medieval period, and Warhorse Studios captures that feeling perfectly, with an epic cinematic tale to go alongside it.

Jesus Christ, Be Praised!

There’s so much more I want to say about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but at the end of the day, you only need to know that it stands as one of the best RPGs to come out in recent years. As a follow-up to an already incredible game, Warhorse Studios’ commitment to crafting an unparalleled medieval RPG experience is a testament to their dedication and passion for authenticity.

From the detailed world-building to the immersive combat system, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 builds on the foundations of its predecessor, refining what was already impressive and introducing new elements that keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. The meticulous attention to historical accuracy creates a world that feels alive, where every choice you make has meaningful consequences.

Warhorse Studios has delivered a worthy sequel and set a new benchmark for what medieval RPGs can achieve. It’s clear that they’re not just creating a game—they’re crafting an experience that invites players to lose themselves in a rich, detailed world that never feels like anything less than a living, breathing testament to the past. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 kicks off the year as a top contender for Game of the Year, and regardless of its ultimate victory, its impact on the RPG genre will be felt for years to come.

Score: 9.5/10

Battlefield Labs Prematurely Announced, Will “Connect Select Number of Players Directly to Developers”

[summaraize]

Yesterday, publisher Electronic Arts promised that Battlefield fans would receive news about the new Battlefield game’s community testing program. While the official announcement hasn’t started yet, it seems that an old Battlefield game prematurely announced it.

Players who booted Battlefield 4, wll see a message for “Battlefield Labs” and a QR code.

Battlefield Labs Will Let Select Individuals Play the New Battlefield Early to Provide Feedback

EA says Battlefield Labs is a “new exclusive testing environment connecting a selected number of players directly with our developers.” For those curious, the QR code doesn’t work yet (shows a 404 page) at the time of this publication.

Players will be able to test and provide crucial feedback “in order to make the best Battlefield possible,” according to EA. The program’s launch will start with players in Europe and North America before looking to expand in the future.

Players can sign up, though there is no guarantee that you’ll get in (same as with any closed beta sign up).

Think of it as the studio’s take on a PTS (Private Test Server) that other online games, such as Fallout 76 and The Division 2, currently feature.

Battlefield veterans will remember the Battlefield CTE (Community Test Environment), which was first introduced in Battlefield: Hardline. While some games did use the CTE, it was mostly forgotten after Battlefield 1.

We expect more news about Battlefield Labs later once EA officially unveils it, so stay tuned here on MP1st.

[Thanks, heisenberg!]

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League New Update 1.024 Alongside Server Downtime This Feb. 3

[summaraize]

While Rocksteady Studios has already confirmed the end of content support for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with Episode 8, the studio has released a few patches to gamers, which we assume aim to fix various bugs.

Rocksteady has released yet another one today, which players should see as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League update version 1.024. This was released during server downtime today, so if you’re having issues connecting to the game’s servers this February 3, that’s the reason why.

Having said that, the game does feature an offline mode now which was released as part of the Season 4 patch.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gets Another Unannounced Update

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Loot

Like the last patch released last week, we expect Rocksteady to release the patch notes a little later in the day. The fixes included in that patch were:

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that prevented progress for some players on completing a Poison Ivy mission
  • [PC EGS] Fixed an issue that prevented some users on Epic Games Store from logging in when offline
  • Fixed an issue that prevented some players from unlocking the ‘Trial By Blood’ Achievement/Trophy  – SSKTJL-9690
  • Various fixes to the gear crafting & upgrading systems
  • Various online connection fixes

Chances are, today’s version 1.024 patch will provide a short list of fixes once again. Once Rocksteady releases the official notes later today, we’ll add it to the article, so sit tight!

While the game’s future as a live service is ending, Rocksteady, its developer, is soldiering on. The latest rumor in the rumor mill states that the development house is developing a new Batman game. Hopefully, the studio learned its lesson and sticks to what it’s good at now.

Former PlayStation CEO Says PS6 Won’t Be Completely Discless

[summaraize]

Former PlayStation CEO Shawn Layden recently discussed the possibility of the PS6 launching without a disc drive during an interview on the Kiwi Talkz podcast. According to Layden, this move would be difficult for Sony due to several market factors.

With the PS5 Pro launching as a digital-only console (with a separate disc drive available for purchase), the interviewer asked Shawn Layden whether Sony could do the same for the PS6. Layden answered by explaining that Sony would have a hard time making a fully digital console the only option.

Former PlayStation CEO Explains Why the PS6 Likely Won’t Drop Disc Support

ps6 disc

He compared PlayStation’s situation to Xbox, noting that Microsoft has been able to push digital consoles because its main markets—the USA, UK, and Australia—have more advanced internet infrastructures. However, PlayStation is dominant in 170 countries, each with different connectivity conditions, making it unlikely that Sony would eliminate physical game support with the PS6.

Layden highlighted that in certain regions, reliable internet connections may not be sufficient for an all-digital console. He also pointed out that athletes and military personnel, who often lack stable internet access, rely on physical game discs.

He explained that Sony would need to analyze how many players would be negatively impacted before making such a significant decision. Even though they might stop using discs in the future, PlayStation is available in so many countries that it would be hard for them to completely get rid of physical games, even for the next console.

In other news, Shawn Layden warns that rising AAA game costs, possibly reaching $400 million for PS5 titles, are unsustainable as the console audience stays the same. He suggests making games shorter (about 23 hours) to better fit how players engage.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC Update for Feb. 3 Brings Version 1.001 and Here’s What’s New

[summaraize]

Square Enix has released the first post-release patch for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC, which includes stability adjustments, improvements to Steam Deck functionality, and more.

Note that this patch is only available for PC. Players should see this Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC update for February 3, which brings the game to version 1.001.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s First PC Update Now Live

Per Square Enix, here’s what’s new in today’s patch:

  • Improved overall stability.
  • Fixed graphics preset defaulting to ‘Low’ on first Steam Deck launch. Saved settings now apply on restart.
  • Anti-Aliasing Method defaults to DLSS on supported PCs.
  • Updated DirectStorage DLL.

That’s about it for this patch. In other news about the game, go check out our super short guide on how to change the game’s resolution if you’re having issues doing that.

We also ran an article last year on the five things Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could have done better, which you’ll want to read.

If you’re still on the fence about the game, go read our review, which speaks quite highly of it. “The expanded story is riveting from start to finish, serving as essentially the Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy. Even the smallest of sidequest can add something to the lore of the world or the overall narrative that you wouldn’t expect as well, which makes you want to complete everything the game has to offer,” our reviewer notes.

F1 24 Update 1.17 Speeds Out to Export Multiplayer Session Results

[summaraize]

Codemasters has released a new update for F1 24 today that allows PC owners to export session results for some multiplayer modes. Several other graphical issues and UI improvements have also been made in update 1.17 (PS5/XSX version 1.017).

Read on to see more of the patch notes below.

[summaraize]

F1 24 Update 1.17 Includes New PC Features and More

v1.17 Patch Notes

Awarded Level 50 Podium Pass Customisation items to players for whom they were not previously unlocked correctly in Seasons 1, 2, & 3

In a handful of rare instances, players that reached Level 50 in the Podium Pass didn’t receive the correct rewards for Seasons 1, 2, and 3. For those affected, these items will be distributed via in-game mail starting February 4th following the online services update.

  • Added the ability to export session results for certain multiplayer modes (PC only)

This additional feature adds an Export Session Results option on the race results screen in Multiplayer Grand Prix and Leagues. When selected, this exports a .csv file into your F1 24 Folder in My Games. This file contains all the information from the Results screen along with all Incidents and Pit Stops which took place during the race for players and AI.

Additionally, a new option has been added to the Legal and Privacy menu in Settings in the Main Menu. Here you can turn “Show Name in Export Session Results” On or Off to decide whether to allow your Username to be seen by other players when they export session results.

  • Fixed an issue which was preventing the player’s number from appearing on the Hethel Classic Livery 2024 and Grove Classic Livery 2024.
  • Fixed an issue which was preventing sponsor decals from appearing on a driver’s suit after they’d been applied to their vehicle.
  • Fixed an issue where sponsors would not appear on the winner’s racesuit on the Multiplayer Race Results screen
  • Fixed an issue in the Graphics Setting Menu which could cause a crash for some users when rapidly changing TAA modes (PC only)
  • Fixed a rare crash for some VR users when using a Flashback or exiting Instant Replay mode (PC only)
  • Various UI improvements

When a new update is out, MP1st readers will be informed as soon as possible.

[summaraize]

DICE has released a surprise patch for Battlefield 2042 on all platforms that aims to bring some quality-of-life features. Tagged as version 8.4.1, console players will see this as Battlefield 2042 update 1.65 on last-gen (PS4, XB1) and download version 1.000.068 on current-gen (PS5, XSX), with the patch notes applying to all versions of the game.

Don’t expect any new content in this, though some much-appreciated items are slotted in.

Battlefield 2042 Gets a Surprise Quality-of-Life Patch This Feb. 3

Battlefield 2042 Update 1.49

Check out what’s new per DICE:

  • Fixed a few different situations where aiming down sights would not properly zoom in your view to the correct magnification. This could for example happen when you ADS quickly after a reload or while jumping between seats in vehicles.
  • Switching between the first and second stance of the driver seat with the IFV now has a brief cooldown time before the weapon is ready to fire.
  • Guided missiles on the IFVs will now interact with the flares like the rest of the missiles.
  • Improved Warhead ability now correctly applies the increased damage on the BMP.
  • Slight adjustment to the damage relation between the vehicle and other assets.
  • Reduced AP rounds damage relation vs medium armored vehicles.
  • Draugr now has hints for its free-look input.
  • SD. KFZ 251 vehicle now correctly tracks wheel damage when disabled.
  • Fixed an issue where under certain scenarios, the player could bypass the grapple hook cooldown.
  • Fixed an issue where The Swift Harvest Skin obscures the 1.25 Iron Sight of the Target 8T Sight on the DM7.
  • Fixed an issue where Paik’s “Gwisin” headgear flickers when used with “Quantum Shift” body.
  • The Scatter Grenade now tracks properly in the statistics tab.

Of course, the big news for Battlefield today is how EA will talk about the community testing plans for the new Battlefield game. Tune in later today at MP1st to know more about that.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Art Book Leaks on Hentai Forums a Month Before Game’s Release

[summaraize]

Nowadays, it’s common for an “Art of” book to be released alongside a major video game or soon after. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one such title that will receive one shortly after its launch next month. Strangely, the art book, “The Art of Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” has managed to make its way online in its entirety ahead of its release.

Now might be a good time to go dark if you plan to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows next month, as the latest leak is quite significant.

The Leak Comes From an NSFW Site, Though Not Entirely Out of the Norm

The full Art of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has made its way online. The source? A hentai website known as E-hentai. As bizarre and random as that may be, the website features dozens of official art books for video games, meaning the posting itself isn’t at all that strange.

Still, the art book isn’t set to release until March 31, ten days after the official release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It’s surprising to see it leak so early, and it’s perhaps the most significant leak for the game so far. The art book contains hundreds of concept and finalized art pieces, giving us a look at some of the locations we are expected to visit, along with yet-to-be-revealed characters and plot points in the story.

This ultimately means that spoilers are likely to surface if the book has any primary story references. Of course, we won’t share any of that here, but instead, offer a warning to those wanting to play the game completely blind. It might be a wise time to start muting words around the game or just avoiding the internet until its release. Unfortunately, that won’t be for another month, so that may be a little hard to do with how early this leak appeared.

That’s not to say that Assassin’s Creed fans aren’t used to leaks by now, as over the past years, many leaks have surfaced about the franchise, including one for a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. It just sucks that something like this happened so close and yet still away from its release. Again, this is more of a warning to those wanting to avoid any potential spoilers that may come out of it.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 20.
