Where Winds Meet PS5 Version Confirmed, Gameplay Trailer Features Magic, Bosses

Open world action-adventure RPG Where Winds Meet is headed to PS5! Previously confirmed for PC, the title, just got its first-ever PS5 gameplay trailer.

Where Winds Meet is inspired by Wuxia — a genre of fiction and cinema featuring martial artists from ancient China often show superhuman feats (think: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). The trailer shown features combat, and even bosses.

Game Synopsis:

As a wandering swordsman or swordswoman, journeying in ancient China during a period of turmoil, players will discover an unprecedented, colorful open world to explore as they embark on an epic adventure across a vast landscape, where breath-taking vistas unfold before their eyes. They will have the opportunity to master stunning Eastern fighting techniques to improve their combat prowess or, more unusually, use these techniques to solve puzzles and quests across the world’s villages, cities and countryside.

The background of the story is set in China in the tenth century, during the turbulent era of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Players will play the role of a young swordsman or swordswoman and embark on a journey to uncover the mystery of their identity.

The trailer also confirms that players will be able to choose whether they want a male or female protagonist, and we even got to see bosses such as the Rongyuan (a strict female officer and excellent craftsman), and the River God.

In terms of combat, Where Winds Meet offers close-range fighting using the Spear, Sword, Twin Blades, and Glaive, and there’s a bow for ranged attacks. Another weapon featured in the trailer was the umbrella that can be used defensively and offensively as shown in the video.

Where Winds Meet is being developed by Everstone Studio and is being published by NetEase Games. No release date is set just yet, but once we know more, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

ASTRO BOT Launches for PS5 on Sept. 6: Gameplay Details Revealed

If you enjoyed Astro’s Playroom and have been wishing that Team Asobi would expand the concept into a full game, today is the day your dreams come true. Announced in today’s State of Play, ASTRO BOT will launch on PS5 on September 6!

You can watch the full announce trailer here:

We’ve also got some exciting details regarding the game’s length and content straight from the PlayStation Blog:

In this brand-new game, you will explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!

To get help on his mission, Astro can use over 15 new abilities offering unique play styles. As you would expect from an Astro game, these take full advantage of the DualSense controller, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers so you can feel every little step along the journey. Among the many new powers, you will find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass, the Twin-Frog Gloves that offer long-range punching and the ability to swing and the Giant Sponge that lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive (and slightly moist) destruction. Combined with improved Astro controls, these new powers take the Astro platforming experience to new heights, while remaining accessible for all. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on these and let us know how they feel.

We also cranked up the number of baddies too with over 70 new types, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Special mention to the deadly cobra queen Lady Venomara who appears in the trailer, waiting for you in her golden lair. Defeating each boss will uncover a wonderful secret but we don’t want to spoil that, so our lips are sealed. And for the brave ones of you craving even more challenge, the game comes packed with die-and-retry levels to test your reflexes.

The trailer showed Astro Bot interacting with all sorts of iconic characters from PlayStation’s history. This game seems like it’ll truly be a love letter to everything that Sony has built in the last 25 years, and pairing that with Team Asobi’s fantastic platforming level design should make for a truly special experience.

ASTRO BOT launches on September 6 exclusively for PS5.

Monster Hunter Wilds Gameplay Trailer Slashes Out, New Details Revealed

In today’s State of Play, we got our first look at a chunky new Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay trailer! It was full of intense, monster-slaying action, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the game when it launches in 2025.

You can view the trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds here:

The trailer, which opened with some exploration across a desert landscape, quickly devolved into chaotic action as the player fought numerous creatures with a slew of different weapons. We also got some great details from a press release shortly after the event aired:

For the first time ever, your protagonist will be fully-voiced! Follow them as they venture into the unknown with their Guild-appointed handler Alma, their Palico, and a mysterious child. You’ll venture across several different, transforming biomes, including the game’s first area: the Windward Plains.

Story will now flow seamlessly into gameplay for the first time in the series’ history, and players will have access to a new mount known as Seikrets. These mounts allow on-the-go sharpening, gathering, and slinger usage. Players can also store a secondary weapon type on their mount and switch back and forth during a hunt.

All fourteen weapon types will make a return. There’s also a new Focus Mode which helps players target weak points and assists with aiming and guarding. There’s also a new Hook Slinger that’s been expanded to feature more versatile actions such as collecting items from a distance!

We haven’t really seen much from Monster Hunter since its crossover with Exoprimal earlier this year, so it’s exciting to get some new content. Overall, the game looks really good. We look forward to getting a chance to play it. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

As part of today’s State of Play, Konami has revealed the Silent Hill 2 remake release date, and it’s October 8, 2024! Alongside that, we also got a new trailer featuring the game’s protagonists, and combat.

Having received a letter from his deceased wife,
James heads to where they shared so many memories,
in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill.
There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…

“My name… is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.

As a horror fan that played the original way back, I’m definitely excited to see how Bloober has modernized this latest entry for the Silent Hill franchise.

Silent Hill 2 is a PS5 exclusive, though we’re expecting it to appear on PC later down the road (after 12 months).

Destiny 2 The Final Shape DLC Leaks, Bungie Warns Against Spoilers

Earlier today, Sony and Bungie bungled Destiny 2’s next premium expansion, The Final Shape, by having it playable. Well, naturally, Destiny 2 players jumped at the chance, and while Sony killed the servers temporarily, damage has been done.

What Happened With the Destiny 2 The Final Shape Leak?

Based on what the community has said, it seems this is entirely Sony’s fault and the company’s game streaming service. Through the service, players can access pre-loaded content that has not been released. It looks like The Final Shape was pre-loaded on Sony’s servers for streaming purposes, but it lacked the necessary protections and safeguards to stop users from being able to access the DLC early.

Once users managed to log in to the service, they were given a fresh rank 1 Guardian account. Players had to go through the tutorial first in order to gain access to the Tower. Players were not able to gain access to The Final Shape campaign or destination immediately, as that required a rank 2 Guardian before being able to access the campaign. However, players still had access to the director map and inventory pages.

The majority of the leak focused on:

  • “Echoes” Season Pass and Rewards
  • All items within the “Collections” Page, including weapons, armor, gear, cosmetics, mods, and exotics
  • Eververse Store Front, including exotic ornaments and other cosmetics

Sadly, this leak also outed the raid loot, which is almost always one of the major things players look out for. This included the raid armor mods as well.

Once players were able to access the Tower and reach rank 2, they were able to start The Final Shape campaign. At the time this happened, Bungie was made aware of the blunder, and pulled the servers offline. It seems that the entire DLC’s story has not been leaked so far, as people didn’t have time to play through the DLC’s story given they had to go through the tutorial first and whatnot.

What Got Leaked?

  • Weapons (Destination, Raid, Seasonal)
  • Armor (Destination, Raid, Seasonal)
  • Exotics (Destination, Seasonal)
  • Cosmetics (Destination, Raid, Seasonal, Eververse)
  • Raid Loot/Raid Mods (at best, the “name” of mechanics)
  • Season Pass (Echoes)
  • Portions of the first campaign mission
  • In addition to flavor texts and perk descriptions, some of which spoil the seasonal vendor and other minor focuses (such as the Echoes store-front synopsis and planetary location).

What Did Bungie Say About The Final Shape Leak?

Over on Twitter/X, the developers shared a message warning people of spoilers. We’ve compiled the tweets into a more reader-friendly version below.

Earlier today, a portion of Destiny 2: The Final Shape was accidentally pushed live on PS5’s streaming service. There are currently spoilers being shared online. A small group of players were able to play some of the campaign, access Collections, and other reward info coming in The Final Shape, and Echoes.

We recommend being very careful on social media over the next few days to avoid spoilers. Remember to exercise caution and be critical of potential misinformation. lease be considerate of others and report leaks so players can experience the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga themselves.

Thanks to all our community members who have already helped us by reporting leaks and those actively working to prevent more of the experience from being shared before its intended date.

It’s always extremely difficult when our team’s hard work is leaked early, but we are still excited for everyone to experience the full release on June 4 together.

We’re obviously not going to be posting story spoilers and whatnot, and we encourage other people not to do so as well.

Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion launches on June 4 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Turtle Beach Atlas Air Review – Plush, Premium Sound

Turtle Beach has released a slate of headphones, just in time for summer to get going in the Northern Hemisphere. While their Stealth lineup saw an expansion into the lower-budget space with the 500, and the 600 now has a third-generation entry, they also introduced a brand-new design, the Atlas Air. These open-back headphones put audio quality front and center, with the company claiming that these have a first-ever floating headcup design which allows audio to be presented in a more lifelike manner than on traditional headphones. Is this all hype, or has Turtle Beach delivered in the ever-competitive gaming headphone space, where differentiation can make or break a product? Our Turtle Beach Atlas Air review will let you know.

Ready to Travel

Your first question is most likely, what’s in the box? As this is a more premium headset in Turtle Beach’s extensive lineup, it does include quite a lot. The headphones arrive in a nicely-padded box, sitting within their included carrying pouch. A USB-A transmitter gets you connected to PCs, the Switch, and other devices, a removable microphone and windscreen help to ensure you can be heard on those devices, while a USB-A to USB-C charging cord and separate audio cable that sports an inline volume wheel are also thrown into the mix. They are both around 1.8m / 5.9 ft in length, and of a higher build quality with a braided sheath that simply feels premium. Finally, a quick start guide gives you a brief rundown of how to get started, including a bright yellow sticker directing you to update the firmware at your earliest convenience.

Weighing in at 301g / 0.66 lbs, the Atlas Airs are, well, light as air. The whole frame is plastic, however it’s whisper-quiet; I’ve yet to have heard a single creak or croak out of them. A floating inner headband is encased in a mesh wire, which helps to differentiate these headphones from all the other black designs out there. The left cup has all the headphone’s controls, including the always nice whole-cup wheel mechanism to control volume. The floating earcups also lend a signature look that helps to instantly distinguish the Atlas Airs in a sea of samey looks, with almost bungee cord-like straps holding the earcups in place. The earcups are wrapped in a mesh, athletic material which is highly breathable, allowing the memory foam within (which also has glasses-friendly ProSpecs tech for those that need more comfort with frames on) to dissipate heat more effectively. A snug fit is all but assured for most head sizes, and once you’ve been wearing them for a while, it’ll be easy to not feel them, even after longer gaming sessions.

New App to Control It All

The newly-released Swarm II app has been launched alongside Turtle Beach’s latest and greatest headphones and other hardware, and serves as a center point from where you can manage your connected Turtle Beach hardware, including customization and firmware updates. For the Atlas Air, you can modify EQ presets, and at least on Windows you can even set completely custom, 10-band levels for both playback and input. Unfortunately, the application is not available on Mac, but it is available on both iOS and Android, so if you have a smartphone it’s likely you can at least update these without issue. Here’s hoping Turtle Beach updates the mobile app to include the same EQ options as can be found on the desktop app soon.

Connectivity options are varied and numerous with the Atlas Air. The included proprietary USB transmitter can be plugged into most devices which sport that port, without much hassle. Range is incredible, as I was able to listen to my audio using this wireless mode at any spot in our two-story house which was built in the ’60s (so, thicker materials), without dropping so much as a single audio packet. In fact, for the highest-quality audio, this transmitter is required, as that is the only configuration in which these headphones will play the higher-fidelity 24-bit, 96 kHz bitstream. In an odd but perhaps economical exclusion, the Atlas Airs do not offer support for ANY high-resolution audio codecs over Bluetooth. No LDAC, aptX/HD, or anything like that. In a headset that purports to put audio quality first, this omission is a little perplexing, and slightly disappointing. But if you only plan on using these with the included transmitter, then this is really a non-issue.

A Unique Audio Experience

Open back headphones are a peculiar type of headphones. Traditional headphones are closed-back, and offer some natural muffling of the outside world, while many headsets offer noise cancelation in an attempt to put you in a virtual sound box where you mostly just hear whatever it is you’re listening to, while the noises of the outside world fade into near nothingness. Open back headphones offer a different listening experience: they allow outside sound (and its corresponding air molecules) to enter your ears, which means you’ll continue to hear your surroundings alongside whatever you’re listening too. In exchange, however, the sound stage of your audio is widened, and recordings sound more “alive” as the sounds these headphones produce envelope your ears as if the actual instruments were in the same room as you.

If it sounds too good to be true, well, there are naturally a few caveats. Not only can you hear your surroundings more easily, but people around you will also easily hear whatever these headphones are playing because they do not seal in much of the sound going in either direction. Using these on public transportation would probably be quite far from an ideal experience. But if you’re at home, in a relatively quiet room, or maybe in bed, the audio really does come alive.

Great Frequency Response, Long Battery Life

The earcups themselves help to achieve this liveliness. For starters, they have an expanded frequency response range of 20 Hz – 40 kHz, which is quite impressive considering they are smaller 40mm dynamic types. What this means in practical terms is that the Atlas Air headphones will not struggle with basically any audio you toss at them. Only sub-bass performance is a touch weak, but this isn’t something you’ll notice unless you’re listening critically. In day-to-day usage, these are phenomenal specifications.

Speaking of day-to-day, you can expect multiple days of battery life out of the Atlas Airs. Quoted at 50 hours, the 800 mAh battery seems to be just big enough to get you through a work week between charges, while not being so large that the headset starts to get a bit too heavy. Charging is done via any USB-C cable you’ve got lying around, and only takes a couple of hours to recharge.

Hear Your Surroundings

The Atlas Air headphones are a great fit for VR. Their natural openness helps to really sell the immersion of whatever game world you find yourself in, while the ability to more clearly hear your real-world surroundings can help to ensure you can hear if you are needed elsewhere. Their wireless compatibility also means you can play with one less cord dangling behind you, which can matter in VR. For regular gaming, those same connectivity options mean you can stay connected to your phone while you game, and the 3.5mm opens things up to the Xbox, older consoles, and other analog audio devices such as amps. The Atlas Air headphones are versatile, and beg to be experimented with.

Indeed, I’ve played around with these on a vacuum tube-enhanced amplifier, and enjoyed the extra oomph provided by the boosted signal. While the resistance rating of the Atlas Air is unknown as of this writing, they are easy to drive with anything you can connect them to. Your favorite album will open up to you if played on these headphones, as the wider, detailed sound stage allows instruments to position themselves precisely where the audio engineer placed them – as an example, Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories sounded rich and, much like I experienced with the higher-priced Audeze Maxwell, certain details within some of those tracks revealed themselves more distinctly than I remember from earlier listens with other traditional headphones. In other words, the Atlas Airs sound fantastic.

The included, detachable, unidirectional microphone is also great. It offers the satisfying flip-to-mute functionality that Turtle Beach and a few other brands are well known for, so it’s always physically obvious if you’re muted or not. 16-bit, 32kHz recording means your voice will be easily picked up in most environments, and when talking on the phone while testing these I never had any audio issues, and those on the other end of the line could hear me very clearly. There is no built-in mic, though, so if you take the boom mic off, you’re left with pure headphones without any sort of audio input capabilities.

Verdict

The Turtle Beach Atlas Air headphones have a lot of good things going for them. An expanded frequency response range means you’ll hear your in-game enemies before you see ‘em. Their open-back nature means you’ll have a better shot at hearing your real-life enemies before you see ‘em, as well (oh, and friends & family, too, then, I suppose). While the benefits to floating earcups is difficult to discern as there isn’t anything else quite like that out in the market, this is a unique driver type which provides for an audio experience you can’t currently find anywhere else. For some, that alone will be worth the reasonable asking price of $179.99 USD, and overall, we recommend the Turtle Beach Atlas Air headphones to anyone who cares about their gaming and personal audio quality.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • Wonderful audio with a wide sound stage.
  • Fantastic frequency response.
  • Great battery life.
  • Tons of connectivity options.

Cons:

  • No lossless audio codec support over Bluetooth.
  • Swarm II mobile app lacking EQ features seen on desktop app.

Persona 3 Reload Update 1.05 Released This May 30

Persona 3 Reload just got a new patch on all platforms, and just in time before May ends. The Persona 3 Reload update 1.05 (PS5 version 1.005) download is now available, and based on Atlus’ roadmap of the game, this should bring in new content in the form of new BGE set and a new costume.

Persona 3 Reload Update 1.05 Patch Notes for May 30:

Here’s what’s new for this patch per Atlus:

  • Velvet Costume & BGM Set added for Expansion Pass owners
  • Minor bug fixes

While Atlus hasn’t released the patch notes just yet, the roadmap for the game has been revealed previously, and confirms a content drop is incoming for May 2024.

Velvet Costume & BGM Set – May 2024

Unlock Velvet Room themed costumes and BGM to further customize your dungeon experience in Persona 3 Reload and Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis -The Answer-. Velvet BGM Set includes Electronica In Velvet Room (“P4D” ver.), Battle Hymn of the Soul (t.komine REMIX “AT 1st” P3D-EDIT ver.), Battle Hymn of the Soul (Daisuke Asakura Remix), Battle Hymn of the Soul -USH ver.-, and Dance Hymn of the Soul (Disco In Velvet Room) (appears on battle results screen).

No word yet on whether gameplay fixes or whatnot are included, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they were. Hopefully, it won’t take Atlus over a day to release the patch notes which is what happened with the version 1.04 title update released at the start of this month.

If Atlus releases the official changelog, we’ll update the article with the info.

Report: Resident Evil 9 Revenant Shadows, Code Veronica, RE Zero, RE5 for PS5 Pops Up on Retailer Site

While there’s no doubt that Resident Evil 9 is being developed at Capcom, rumors about have circulated recently alongside other Resident Evil remakes. Well, if this retailer listing is the real deal, then RE9’s subtitle and product description just surfaced ahead of any official announcement.

Online retailer Play-Asia has a page up for Resident Evil 9: Revenant Shadows, alongside pages for the rumored Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes. The preliminiary cover art shows what appears two characters (with the character up front looking a lot like Leon Kennedy) alongside the Resident Evil IX title.

The product description for the still-unannounced game is available on the page as well where it says, “Resident Evil 9: Revenant Shadows is the latest installment in the iconic survival horror series by Capcom. This game continues the chilling legacy with a fresh story, new characters, and the return of familiar faces. Set in an expansive, terrifying world filled with new threats and mysteries, Revenant Shadows blends intense action, intricate puzzles, and the atmospheric dread that fans have come to love.”

In addition to that, listings for Resident Evil 5 for the PS5 is available on Play-Asia as well. Check out the box art and description for it below.

The product description reads, “The biohazard threat has not ended: Just when it seemed that the menace of Resident Evil had been destroyed, along comes a new terror to send shivers down player’s spines. Chris Redfield, returning Resident Evil hero, has followed the path of evil literally around the globe. After joining a new organization, Chris heads to Africa where the latest bioterrorism threat is literally transforming the people and animals of the city into mindless, maddened creatures. Chris must take on the challenge of discovering the truth behind this evil plot. In Resident Evil 5, Capcom will teach players to fear the daylight as much as they have feared shadow in previous games. Co-producer and series veterans Jun Takeuchi (Lost Planet) and Masachicka Kawata (Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles) unleashes an unprecedented level of fear for the next generation in Resident Evil 5, the sequel to one of the highest-rated videogames in history, according to Metacritic.com and Gamerankings.com. Promising to revolutionize the series by delivering an unbelievable level of detail, realism, and control, Resident Evil 5 is certain to bring new fans to the series. New technology developed specifically for the game, as well as incredible changes to both the gameplay and world of Resident Evil, will make this a must-have game for gamers across the globe.”

The listing for Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake has a placeholder box art, and the item description is for the original Code Veronica game. Resident Evil Zero has is titled “HD Remaster” on the box, and its item description is also for the original RE: Zero.

Now before anyone takes the info above as real, do note that Capcom has not announced anyting, and based from what we know, Play-Asia has been known to put up pre-order pages for games the retailer thinks will be available.

The fact that there is an item description and subtitle for Resident Evil 9 is what makes us think that there is a chance this could be legit. The latest from credible leaker DuskGolem mentions that Code Veronica and RE: Zero remakes are being developed, with Resident Evil 9 set for release in 2025/2026.

Could Resident Evil 9 be one of the surprise announcements at Sony’s State of Play later? As a Resident Evil fan, I am hoping it is, though I’m doubtful.

We’ve reached out to Capcom to ask for clarification on this and will update the article if we hear anything back.
