ALL PLATFORMS

GENERAL UPDATES

  • Replays
    • Replays are now available for Custom Swiftplay and Standard matches. Party leaders can opt in to a Custom game being recorded in the Custom lobby settings.

COMPETITIVE UPDATES

  • Hidden MMR Update
    • We’ve made changes to our hidden MMR calculation that should improve match quality and help bring more consistent experiences match-to-match.
  • MFA for EU
    • Starting in 12.01, accounts detected for sharing in EU and all Ascendant+ players must enable Riot Mobile multi-factor authentication (MFA) to access Competitive queue. Other modes will remain unaffected.
      • You can check out this article for more information on why we’re making this change, or get yourself set up with MFA now using this how-to guide.

AGENTS UPDATES

  • Breach
    • Breach has been underperforming in high level play so we are adding power back that we’re hoping will better reward precision and coordination.
    • Flashpoint
      • Projectile speed increased 20% from 2000 >>> 2400
    • Fault Line
      • Width increased from 7.5m >>> 8m
  • Brimstone
    • Tactical map on the on Sky Smoke and Orbital Strike have been updated for better readability

  • Harbor
    • Harbor’s new abilities haven’t made the splash we had hoped for, so we’re increasing the windows of advantage when enemies are hit by his new aggressive abilities.
    • Storm Surge
      • Explosion no longer requires line of sight to nearsight and slow players
      • Explosion windup decreased from 0.8s >>> 0.6s
      • Slow duration increased from 0.6s >>> 2s
    • Reckoning
      • Slow duration increased from 0.6s >>> 2s
  • Sage
    • We have updated Sage targeting to make it more accurate to Agent models. Players can now heal targeted allies if the mid and lower sections of their models are blocked by geometry.
    • Healing Orb
      • Updated targeting
  • Tejo
    • We’ve been confident in Tejo’s unique slot in the roster as our primary flushing Initiator, but wanted to add a bit of power to the abilities that are supporting Guided Salvos, round over round. Adding damage to Special Delivery should help provide an additional way to disrupt defensive utility in ways players are already able to do with Guided Salvos, while changes to Stealth Drone are aimed at helping with making the call to actions clearer for knowing where to place Guided Salvos or when playing alongside a Tejo.
    • Special Delivery
      • Concuss duration decreased from 4 seconds >>> 2.5 seconds
      • Added damage on the explosion
        • Maximum damage of 35 at center, with minimum damage of 20
    • Stealth Drone
      • Reveal type has been changed from Snapshot reveal to being fully Revealed
      • Pulse radius decreased from 30m >>> 16m
  • Vyse
    • Vyse has been slightly underperforming after recent changes, so we’re giving back some area to Steel Garden to compensate. This should make site takes and defensive holds more reliable.
    • Steel Garden
      • Radius increased from 26m >>> 28m
      • Width increased from 7.5m >>> 8m

MAP UPDATES

  • Breeze Rework
    • Breeze is back-and has received our biggest map rework yet! We’ve made significant changes across the entire map to reduce angle complexity, tighten open spaces, and improve rotation times for defenders. The sun’s still shining, but a lot of your old setups probably won’t work. Check out this video to take a look at the changes.
    • Breeze Rework Event: For the first 2 weeks of Competitive, Breeze RR losses are reduced by 50%, wins are still 100% (to also help you learn the map!)
  • Haven and Corrode
    • Haven and Corrode are receiving targeted wall penetration updates. We’re addressing specific positions where teams could meaningfully influence rounds through firing at walls with high penetration weapons without much exposure.
      • Haven
        • Mid Window
          • Added a breakable element to prevent early round start kills through wall penetration
  • Corrode
    • Some of Corrode’s wall materials have made certain positions too effective at denying space through penetration alone. We’re adjusting the wall materials in key areas so that holding these spots requires more commitment.
      • A Site
        • Adjusted wall material on a key surface
  • B Site
    • Adjusted wall material on a key surface
  • Map Pool Updates
    • BREEZE is IN the COMPETITIVE and DEATHMATCH queues.
    • SUNSET is OUT of the COMPETITIVE and DEATHMATCH queues.

MODES UPDATES

          • You’re assigned a new random Agent every round-no duplicates per team
          • All Agents are available regardless of ownership
      • Single Site
        • Each round activates one bomb site with barriers blocking unused areas of the map
        • The active site randomizes each round
        • Active site is revealed during the buy phase
      • Available Maps
        • Abyss, Ascent, Breeze, Corrode, Pearl, Icebox, Sunset, Split
      • Abilities

        • Kills grant 50% ultimate charge
        • Killed players drop Ground Orbs containing their accumulated charge
      • Loadouts
        • No economy-select your loadout each round
        • Weapon offerings escalate through stages as the match progresses

      • Snowball Fight is heading out. Thanks for playing!

PLAYER BEHAVIOR UPDATES

  • Behavior Standing is Live!
    • You’ll see an indicator on the Social Panel if you have an active penalty or are at immediate risk of a future penalty. After expanding the indicator, you’ll see additional information related to your active and at-risk penalties.
  • Riot Games Community Pact
    • Play to Win. Play Fair. Play with Respect. Or play something else.
    • When you log in for the first time after this patch you’ll see the Community Pact. The Community Pact is an evolution of the Community Code and covers our expectations for player behavior. However, unlike the Community Code, you should expect to see and recommit to it every year.
    • To better reflect these expectations in-game, we’ve updated the categories and descriptions on Report Player screens to align with these core principles.
  • We’ve adjusted our systems for Chat and Inappropriate Name penalties.
    • Our systems will more reliably issue firmer penalties sooner for frequent or severe Voice and Text Chat offenses.
    • If you receive an Account Ban for having an Inappropriate Riot ID, you’ll be unable to change your Riot ID until the ban is over.

WEAPONS UPDATES

  • Introducing the Bandit, a precision sidearm with 1-tap headshot power for those that want to steal some rounds on a budget. The Bandit lands right between the Ghost and Sheriff, offering more diversity in light rounds whether choosing to focus on Agent abilities or focus on gunplay.
    • Weapon Class: Sidearm
    • Price: 600 credits
    • Attachments: None
    • Bullets per Magazine: 8
    • Ammo Reserve: 24
    • Reload Timing: 1.5s

007 First Light PC Specs and DLSS 4 Support Revealed

It seems progress on 007 First Light has been going smoothly since its delay, as IO Interactive has just released the minimum and recommended PC specs months ahead of its release.

That’s not all; it’ll support DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation at release.

007 First Light PC Specs

As revealed by IO Interactive (via press release), here are the minimum and recommended PC specs for 007 First Light.

Official PC Hardware Specifications:

Minimum:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 9500K / AMD Ryzen 5 3500
  • Graphic Card: NVIDIA GTX 1660 / AMD RX 5700 / Intel discrete GPU equivalent
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Video RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB minimum
  • OS: Windows 10/11, 64-bit
  • Resolution: 1080p
  • 30 FPS

Recommended:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 13500 / AMD Ryzen 5 7600
  • Graphic Card: NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti / AMD RX 6700 XT / Intel discrete GPU equivalent
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Video RAM: 12 GB
  • Storage: 80 GB minimum
  • OS: Windows 10/11, 64-bit
  • Resolution: 1080p
  • 60 FPS

The minimum specs look pretty generous, though, in all fairness, that’s aiming for 1080p @ 30 FPS. It seems that if you want to run the game at 60 FPS, you’ll need a card with a bit more VRAM (12 GB). Oddly, the studio lists the RTX 3060 Ti as part of the recommended hardware, even though it doesn’t have a 12 GB VRAM variant. A mistake? Possibly, though, seeing that the game is still four months away, IO Interactive is still working on polishing and optimization.

Meaning, despite having these specs now, they could very well change closer to release.

We also don’t have any details on the specs required to run the game at 4K, nor do we know what graphical settings (low, mediu, high, or ultra) these specs target.

In related 007 First Light news, the studio also confirmed that DLSS 4 support will be available at launch. Here’s a look at that in motion.

007 First Light is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox ROG Ally X, Xbox ROG Ally, Nintendo Switch 2*, and PC on May 27, 2026.

Apex Legends Winter Wipeout Update Released via Patch 1.000.114/3.00

The first patch of the year for Apex Legends is now live this January 6, and this is for the Winter Wipeout Event! Console gamers will see the download appear as Apex Legends update 1.000.114/3.00, and this introduces hoverboards, new Wild Cards, and a huge balance patch affecting the legends.

Alongside that, there are also other new additions such as new event items, new in-store items for sale and more.

Read on for the major changes added today, as well as the legend changes made.

Apex Legends New Update on January 6 Introduces Winter Wipeout

WILDCARD: HOVERBOARDS & MORE

Drop into Wildcard and shred Olympus with new Hoverboards! Carve across cover, wall-ride out of danger, and throw down tricks mid-air for sweet, sweet EVO rewards.

Start the match with a Hoverboard in your Survival Item slot, and keep it through every respawn, adding mobility to every fight. The hoverboard includes a bunch of abilities, including aerial tricks for EVO rewards, wall riding, and a ramming attack!

Here’s everything your shiny new Hoverboard can do:

  • Double Jump – Tap jump while midair to jump again!
  • Wall Ride – Ride on any vertical surface as long as you maintain a high enough speed. Jump off the wall to perform a Wall Ride trick.
  • High Fall – Hit the ground from a massive drop and gain even more speed.
  • Zipline Jump – Mount a zipline while on the hoverboard to move even quicker. Jump off of any zipline and get a boost of speed in any direction.
  • EVO Combos – The more tricks you perform in quick succession, the higher your evo reward is. We are definitely judging your style.
  • Ramming Speed – If you are going fast enough, you can ram enemy opponents to damage them. More speed means more damage and knockback.
  • Slides – Slide to preserve more momentum and take sharper turns. Even more effective when going down slopes.
  • Dealing heavy damage to enemies riding a hoverboard will kick them off of it.

NEW WILD CARDS

Bury the competition with new Wild Cards:

  • Brain Freeze – Headshots do additional damage and greatly slow opponents.
  • Love Potion – When using a consumable, nearby teammates receive the same health.
  • Protective Launch – When taking any jump pad, players gain a small shield regen.

And some existing Wild Cards are staying in rotation:

  • Go-Go Ammo
  • Fast Draw
  • Burning Rubber
  • Speedy Charge
  • Stowed Reload
  • Extra Zippy
  • The Quick and the Dead
  • Get Up and Go
  • Drone Support
  • Smoke Out

BALANCE UPDATES

Active Gold Weapon Rotation

We cycle our gold weapons between releases to keep the loot pool feeling fresh and to showcase weapon changes. This season the rotation includes the R-301 and Rampage to highlight their balance updates and the Triple Take to celebrate its return to floor loot at the start of the season.

  • R-99 SMG, R-301 Carbine, Mastiff Shotgun, Triple Take, and Rampage LMG

GAME UPDATES

Respawn Beacons

Dev Note: Over the years we have worked towards making respawning more accessible in the BR. We feel like this change will address a major pain point that has been felt in the respawning loop, “Why is the closest respawn beacon on the other side of the map?” Mobile Respawn Beacons remain unchanged (single use).

  • Map placed Respawn Beacons can now be used once per team (previously once per game).
Extended Supply Bins & Weapon Supply Bins

Dev Note: We previously increased the spawn rate of extended & weapon supply bins when we removed the icons from the map so that they still felt consistent. Now that the icons have returned, we are seeing a few too many, so we are bringing that number back down.

  • Reduced the spawn rate of extended and weapon supply bins.

LEGENDS

OCTANE

We did not forget! Since his release, movement in Apex Legends has become more dynamic with dashes, jumps, glides and jets. Octane needed something special to be the “run and gun” icon that he is meant to be. As Octane is a risk taking adrenaline chaser, we did not want to just throw away his health cost either. Instead we wanted to add a payoff by enabling his abilities to be stronger the less health he has. Octane is all about going fast and living dangerously – so go get ’em Octane mains!

Passive

  • Swift Mend now heals more the less HP you have.
    • Swift Mend base healing increased from 1.5 HPS to 3.0 HPS
    • Swift Mend max healing heals for 9 HPS

TACTICAL – STIM SURGE

  • Added a new ability for Octane Stim Surge: If Octane uses his tactical again, while stim is already active, he uses a new mixture which grants him Fortified, triggers Swift Mend, and allows Swift Mend to continue healing through damage.

• Stim Surge lasts 6s

• Costs 0 HP to use

• Reapplies Stim effect for entire duration

• Has a 20s cooldown but does not put Stim on cooldown

• Fortified reduces damage by 15% and grants immunity to bullet slow

• Players can hold tac button to automatically buffer Stim Surge

Dev Note: It’s very easy for Octane to run into danger faster than he should. Stim Surge gives Octane more agency to survive in those situations so he can hold W confidently.

TACTICAL – STIM

  • While stimmed, Octane can sprint and use consumables.
  • Reduce the time before Octane can reuse his Stim from 1.8s to 0.7s
  • Stim speed increased by 5%

Dev Note: Going slow is for everyone else, not Octane. Healing while sprinting lets Octane maintain his tempo at the cost of consumables and gives him elusiveness in close quarter fights.

ULTIMATE

  • Incorporated Mad Hops and Aerial Agility into the base kit.
    • JumpPad now has two charges
    • JumpPad has improved handling when double jumping
  • JumpPads are useable immediately after hitting the ground

UPGRADES

Four new upgrades to replace all the base upgrades

  • Thick Skin: Stim costs 10 less health to use
  • Squad Rush: Everyone who uses your JumpPad gains Stim on land
  • Daredevil: Gain fast reload on shield cracks and increase Stim Surge duration the less HP you have
  • Triple Jump: Gain a third jump from JumpPads

Dev Notes: Octane was previously a fairly selfish pick. With the Ultimate changes, Squad Rush and Triple Jump, Octane can flex into strong team-wide mobility for coordinated teams comps.

NEWCASTLE

Newcastle is in an interesting spot right now. He’s chosen rarely in matchmaking but in ALGS, he is a top tier Legend. We wanted to make him more enticing without making him over powered in coordinated play. By incorporating all his speed upgrades into his base kit, it opened up space to create new upgrades that give him stronger rez plays. It felt right that in a season where the OG pub stomper Octane is coming back that a “pub savior” be around to protect the team.

PASSIVE

  • Incorporate Heroes Hustle into base kit
    • Movement speed penalty reduced from 25% to 75%

TACTICAL

  • Incorporate Swift Shield into base kit
    • Movement speed increased from 160 to 250

UPGRADES

Two new upgrades to replace Swift Shield and Heroes Hustle

  • Stronghold moves down to replace Heroes Hustle
  • Ready To Rumble: Reviving a player auto loads Newcastle’s weapons and triggers full regen. (Replaces Swift Shield)
  • Defensive Line: Tactical and Revive Shield knocks back enemies once (Replaces Stronghold)

CRYPTO

Crypto’s pick rate tells us he’s in a spot where he needs our attention. There were many quality of life buffs we found to make him feel better, help him catch up to his squad, and give him more play potential.

PASSIVE

  • Crypto gains long range Threat Vision while piloting his drone
  • Satellite Imagery incorporated into base kit
    • Increase duration of scan by 1.5s
    • Receive a short scan on EMP

Dev Note: We wanted to emphasize Crypto’s recon class while actively piloting his drone. Information is very valuable so with more scans and callouts, we are hoping your team will appreciate you being in the drone more.

TACTICAL

  • Reduced time to launch drone from 1.3 to 0.7s
  • Reduced time to renter drone from 0.4 to 0.2s
  • Reduced animation frame that Crypto renters drone from 7 to 2
  • Drone can collect EVO Harvesters
  • Crypto can now enter and exit drone while using Ziplines
  • Off the Grid Incorporated into base kit
    • Crypto cloaks while piloting his drone

Dev Note: With these changes Crypto should have less “dead time” where he is either locked out of his drone or stuck in it. It should feel more seamless to enter and exit your drone making it less cumbersome overall. Lastly, giving Crypto more freedom to enter the drone, and incorporating Off the Grid into the base kit, unlocks some pretty sneaky tech for him!

UPGRADES

Two new upgrades to replace Off the Grid and Satellite Imagery.

  • Ally.MoveTo(): Crypto can Trailblaze to all allies. (Replaces Off the Grid)
  • Power Coupling: Crypto gains Ultimate charge from using scan beacons and scanning enemies with his drone (Replaces Satellite Imagery)

REVENANT

Small adjustment to Revenant so that victims have a little more time to react to being cracked before an ulted up Rev lands them.

TACTICAL

  • Increased max charge duration from 1.3 to 1.7s

ULTIMATE

  • Increased Ult time 2.0 to 2.2s (10% slower to deploy)

LOOT & ATTACHMENTS

AMPS

Infinite Ammo

Dev Note: Infinite Ammo was underused compared to its counterparts, so we are giving it some love to bring it into the conversation.

  • Infinite Ammo Amp now applies to Care Package weapons

WEAPONS

AR

The R-301 and the Flatline are the bread and butter of Apex weaponry. And for a long time, that was all anyone ordered. After a while, though, we all want some spice. So while R-301 and Flatine have remained classics, other weapons have become more powerful and eclipsed them. These changes to the R-301 and Flatine, while small, should get them back on the menu.

VK-47 Flatline

  • Damage increased to 20 (was 19)

R-301 Carbine

  • Damage increased to 15 (was 14)

LMG

Rampage

The Rampage Revved state drained a tad fast when not firing. This change should allow you to hold that charge a little longer while you get to the fight.

  • Increased energize duration to 120 seconds (was 90 seconds)
  • Total number of shots while Revved slightly increased

LSTAR

  • Increased initial projectile size
  • Increased projectile size over distance

PISTOL

RE-45 Burst

  • Improved recoil
  • Increased projectile size at close range

SHOTGUN

Mozambique

  • Increased projectile size at close range

SMG

The adjustment to the burst delay last season hit the Prowler a little harder than intended, so we are rolling that back. Additionally, we feel the reward for unlocking the Selectfire Receiver just doesn’t hit quite hard enough, so we are boosting the weapon’s power while using Selectfire.

Prowler PDW

  • Decreased burst delay
  • Damage increased to 17 while using Selectfire (was 16)

MAPS

Olympus

We’ve been monitoring your feedback on Olympus, and have found several opportunities for targeted QOL improvements. Players experiencing FPS drops on Olympus should see improvements in this update. CD Projekt Says Extending Jackie’s Story in Cyberpunk 2077 Wouldn’t Have Made Sense

Although it took a few years for Cyberpunk 2077 to redeem itself after its rocky launch, the game has finally become the hit everyone hoped for, and a major success for CD Projekt. While fans now await the sequel, which is still years away, many continue to enjoy the original, even if they still have a few small complaints.

One common suggestion among fans is to give Jackie Welles, one of the game’s most beloved characters, more screen time. But according to Cyberpunk 2 developer Igor Sarzynski, that idea doesn’t really make sense.

Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Says Extending Act 1 Would Be Like More Farmer Luke in Star Wars

Cyberpunk 2077 jackie

Sarzynski explained on BlueSky that, while Jackie is a favorite among fans and an excellent companion, his time in the story was intentionally limited and carefully designed.

“So would extending Act 1 (before the heist) in CP77 make the game better? No it wouldn’t,” he said. “It’s like saying we should spend more time on Tatooine with farmer Luke before he got involved with all this Jedi stuff.”

The developer described Act 1, which ends with the heist to steal Arasaka Corporation’s experimental tech, as a tightly structured section. “The motivation / goal in this section of the game is pretty vague – ‘get to the top’ – which, prolonged and without stakes or pressure would result in meandering, unfocused experience,” he added.

Sarzynski acknowledged that some players might find their time with Jackie too short, but he believes it’s “well balanced.” He also clarified that the six-month montage shown after the prologue was always meant to be a single cinematic sequence, not cut content from the game. Still, many players manage to spend over 20 hours exploring the Watson district with Jackie before moving on.

In other news, Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion, aims to feature the most realistic and reactive crowd system ever seen in a video game.

PNY CS3250 2 TB SSD Review – One to Rule Them All

NVMe Gen5 SSDs with E28 controllers have finally hit the market, with PNY being amongst the first to offer them with the PNY CS3250. With bold claims that it can achieve 14,900 MB/s seq. read and 14,000 MB/s seq. write speeds, while keeping better temps and better power efficiency than their last-gen counterparts, there’s much to be excited about this new generation of SSDs.

After spending weeks of putting the CS3250 through some testing, it’s safe to say that the future of NVMe SSDs is looking rather exciting, with potentially a new crowned king.

Perfect Option for the PS5, Even If PlayStation Consoles Can’t Take Full Advantage of the Speeds…Yet

So for our first “benchmark” test, we decided to put the PNY CS3250 inside a PlayStation 5 Pro to see what kind of read/write speeds it would deliver. Do mind, the PS5 and PS5 Pro are equipped with PCIe 4.0, meaning they won’t be able to take full advantage of the full PCIe 5.0 offered by the PNY CS3250.

Off the bat, the console reported 6590 MB/s. Because this is our first review of an M.2 NVMe SSD, we don’t have any charts to reference, but for the sake of comparison, we looked at the M.2 expansion benchmarks on PS5 from Tom’s Hardware and Tweaktown, both of which list the Micron 4600 2TB as their top drive, reading at 6,565 and 6,566 MB/s, respectively. Tweaktown also lists the PNY CS3250 at 6,411 MB/s, though we’re unsure whether this is based on the base PS5 model or the PS5 Pro. Regardless, our PS5 Pro’s bench of the PNY CS3250 shows read speeds of 6590 MB/s, making it one of the fastest third-party NVMe drives you can get for the PS5.

In terms of write speeds on the PS5, these are generally hard to figure out, though moving a game from the internal M.2 to the PNY CS3250 did yield blazing fast speeds that were up to par with PCIr 4 speeds, so massive files taking up anywhere between 50-100 GB only took a matter of minutes, and in some cases, seconds.

For example, 138 GB for Call of Duty took only 59 seconds to move from the PS5’s storage to the PNY CS3250 in our first test, which equates to around 2.35 GB/s write speed running in a PCIe 4 slot.

Now, for the reverse, transferring from the PNY CS3250 NVMe to the PS5’s internal NVMe, the bottleneck is the PS5 itself. While the internal NVMe slot in the PS5 offers blazing-fast read speeds, as demonstrated by many of its games (Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei are perfect examples), its write speeds aren’t anywhere near as impressive. So transferring a game from the PNY CS3250 to the PS5’s M.2 slot will be significantly slower due to the PS5’s M.2 write speeds. The same example above (138 GB) took us 6 minutes and 45 seconds to move back to the console, averaging around 345 MB/s on the PS5’s internal drive. That’ll be the same result with any other NVMe brand when transferring data to the PS5, as the bottleneck is once again the PS5’s NVMe.

But there is one other benefit (minor one at that) to having a drive with a faster write speed on the PS5: downloads. No, the PNY CS3250 won’t magically increase your internet speeds, but it will let your console keep up with faster speeds. Mind you, the number isn’t a significant difference; in our tests, downloading a game on both the internal NVMe and the PNY CS3250 using a 1 GB connection (ethernet) from the PS5, it only amounted to saving roughly 1-2 minutes using the PNY CS3250. As I said, it’s not a big difference, but it’s still an improvement over the internal drive.

Some examples:

Divinity Original Sin 2 – Download Size 18.55 GB (For Start to Play)

  • PS5 Pro’s NVMe – 4 Minutes 17 Seconds
  • PNY CS3250 2 TB NVMe – 3 Minutes and 22 Seconds

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – Download Size 48.21 GB (For Start to Play)

  • PS5 Pro’s NVMe – 9 Minutes 46 Seconds
  • PNY CS3250 2 TB NVMe – 9 Minutes and 2 Seconds

In terms of load times, the differences are even more minimal, given how optimized the system is for reading data. Take Death Stranding 2: it takes about 1 second to load your game file from the internal NVMe, and the same goes for the PNY CS3250. I did test a few other games that had much longer loading screens, like Battlefield 6’s campaign, and a few others, but the differences varied. Sometimes the internal NMVe was faster, other times the PNY CS3250, but the difference was always within 1 second, so not much to really tell here.

What this does tell me is that, with NVMe drives now seeing their read/write speeds doubled (and more, as newer PCIe generations are developed), the future of PlayStation consoles will likely see much more benefit from them than they do now. That is, of course, assuming PlayStation consoles continue to support third-party drives, though it does beg the question of just how far they’ll push drive speeds by the time it comes out.

As of the publication of this review, PCIe 5.0 is 6.5 years old since its base specs were finalized, though we’re looking at about 3 years more years before it becomes more widely adopted in AMD and Intel boards. The PS5 was released in 2020, a year after the Gen 5 lane specs were finalized, and used PCIe Gen 4.0, which is why the PNY CS3250 runs at roughly half the actual speeds on the platform. The slowest component dictates it, and in this case, it is the PS5 Gen slots.

By the time the PS6 comes out, PCIe 6 will likely be where PCIe 5 is now, with consumers really starting to get their hands on PCIe 5 NVMe SSDs in the masses, with PCIe 7 likely around the corner (specs were only finalized this year). But we’re talking anywhere between 2027 and 2030. Technology is moving fast, but the rate of adaptation isn’t quite there.

This is pure speculation, of course, but I do believe that the PS6 and any other next-gen console that releases in the next few years will use PCIe 5 (instead of newer generations) controllers, mainly to help keep costs down. But considering what the console has done with only half the speeds of the newer generation, I think we’re in for quite a shock at just how much faster it’ll be on the next console, especially given how much more unification goes into a closed platform compared to a PC.

But for the time being, the PNY CS3250 SSD is easily one of the top-tier NVMe SSD options for the PS5, capable of delivering uncompromised performance on the platform, even if it isn’t fully utilized due to the PS5’s older gen lanes. But considering the price-to-performance you’re getting on a potentially next-gen drive that will serve you even more in the future, it’s almost unbeatable.

Which brings us to the next part of the review: how does the PNY CS3250 SSD perform when used by PCIe 5-supported hardware?

First Consumer NVMe With E28 Controller Boasts Impressive Real-World Results

Despite how fast technology has been evolving in the field of computers, at the consumer level, we’ve entered this generation of chipsets with PCIe 5 support without really being able to take full advantage of it. To put things into perspective, the first motherboards to support PCIe 5 came out around the end of 2021/start of 2022, when the new generation of PCIe-5-supported CPUs launched from both Intel and AMD. It’d be about another year (or two) before we see a consumer-grade PCIe-5-supported NVMe drive (using E26 controllers), but even then, we were talking about what seemed like a pretty niche and expensive product. Heck, it was only this year that we finally got GPUs that supported PCIe-5, namely NVIDIA’s RTX 5000 series and AMD’s RX 9000 series.

As I mentioned before, the tech exists; it’s just been a really slow adoption rate. Not out of the norm by any means; it’s been the same for previous generations, and it’ll be the same for the next generation and the generation after. But the good news here is that for those who have been waiting to move on to newer platforms, or waiting for PCIe 5 actually to take off, chances are, within the next year, we’re going to start seeing more real-world differences, given we can build PCs with “full” support of it now.

To kick off this next-generation renaissance, PNY’s newest Gen-5 NVMe drives are being powered by the Phison E28 controller. They’re among the first to hit the consumer market with this controller type, and ultimately, what you need to know is that they’re insanely fast and consistent while being highly power-efficient. They use a 6nm node versus its predecessor, the E26, which used 12nm nodes, allowing power drawn to be drastically reduced. So drastic that you technically don’t need to use a bulky fan-cooled heatsink like some NVMe have been pushing to help keep temps down while at peak performance. Not an issue with these E28 controllers, as they’re suited for even small devices like laptops and use less battery power while delivering peak performance.

But talk is, well, talk, and with PNY claiming that their PNY CS3250 can hit read and write speeds of 14,900 MB/s and 14,000 MB/s, respectively, putting it up there with the WD Black SN8100 NVMe (which is considered one of the best Gen 5 drives), I just had to see for myself to believe it. While it might still be a bit too early to say for sure, I think we might have just found a new king for NVME when it comes to overall value and performance.

The Build:

Production PC

  • Motherboard: ASRock X870E Nova
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950x
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 5080
  • RAM: 2×32 GB (64 GB total) DDR5

Because this PC was built for production, such as 4K recording at high bit rates and rendering videos that are tens of hours long, I opted for large block sizes, since it’s pretty normal for me to move files well over 100 GB. I’m seeing longer wait times in the type of work I do, so I was interested in how the PNY CS3250 performed there.

Given that everyone’s PC is set up differently, there’s some margin for error in these tests, though the first run is looking pretty positive, with read and write speeds almost where PNY advertises. Note that the disc name changed because it was moved and formatted for our PS5 testing.

It’s important to understand that these benchmarks don’t reflect real-world performance, but rather the peaks under max load. We’re stress-testing the drive as much as we can to see what speeds it can achieve.

Under a full stress test, the PNY CS3250 reached a peak of 45°C. For comparison, my build also has two Gen4 Samsung SSD 980 PRO SSD: one for Windows and the other for storage. Their idle temps after a cold boot were typically 40-46°C, with the PNY CS3250 at around 39°C. Running my non-Windows Gen4 Samsung SSD 980 PRO under a full stress test saw the temps reach roughly 58°C.

The benefits of the Phison E28 controller really show here, as the PNY CS3250 ran at near-max speeds while keeping its temps below the idle temps of a Gen4 NVMe drive. That’s insane, and we can safely assume its power consumption is much lower as well. You technically don’t need a heatsink, but considering most Motherboards have them built in, I would still recommend using one, cause why not?

In terms of real-world performance, as in what you’ll likely see in your everyday tasks, installing games, moving files between folders, ect, speeds are going to be closer to the 3.5-5 GB/s mark, which is about doubled the speed of real-world performance you’ll see from a PCIe Gen 4 drive. Just because it can reach higher speeds doesn’t mean it will deliver them consistently. The keyword is “up to,” and you wouldn’t want your drive always to be running at peak performance, as that’s a sure way to shorten its lifespan.

As for the 3DMARK score, we pulled in 4024. For reference, the average is 2280 for overall tests (as in everyone) on 3DMARK is 2280.

Overall, good loads and asset streaming.

A New SSD King?

PNY’s CS3250 impresses across the board, and although Phison E28 controllers are still in their infancy as consumer products, they do set a pretty high bar for others to follow. We can only imagine that things will get better from here on out as more and more brands begin adapting the new controllers. Still, so far, PNY is leading the charge with a drive that balances raw power with surprising efficiency and a low price point.

A perfect pairing for those jumping onto AMD’s and Intel’s newest platforms and wanting to see a generational difference in performance.

Pros

  • Manages to hit groundbreaking consumer read and write speeds for a Gen5 SSD.
  • Runs cool, to the point that a bulky heatsink isn't needed.
  • Delivers exceptionally fast loading in-game.
  • Fair pricing, though that's unfortunately being determined by ongoing market issues as of 2026.
  • Sets an exciting bar for the future of E28 controllers.

EA Sports FC 26 Update on January 6 Brings Patch 1.14

The first update for EA Sports FC 26 for the year is now available on all platforms, which console gamers will see as update version 1.14.

This brings gameplay changes to how AI defend, Ultimate Team fixes and a lot more, which are all detailed in full via the patch notes.

EA Sports FC 26 Update 1.14 Brings Gameplay Changes on January 6, 2026

AI Defending

We are making a change that will reduce the reaction times of AI defenders when marking the ball carrier, increasing the chance of them leaving more open space while transitioning between actions. This change can help your attacks feel more free-flowing. We will continue to monitor your feedback on AI Defending and look to make more adjustments if needed.

Gameplay

We are making changes to improve responsiveness and address frustration across several areas of play.

  • CPU AI behavior in Squad Battles has been adjusted. We heard your feedback that the recent tuning made the sequences feel overly passive  and there were long periods of low-pressure possession from the CPU AI. The CPU will now take a more proactive and attacking approach to create a smoother Squad Battles experience. The CPU AI will not focus on maintaining possession as much as before.
  • Updated Acceleration Types height values. This change refines the minimum and maximum height thresholds used to determine run types for players. You can expect more players to have the Lengthy run type with this change. As part of this, the minimum Lengthy height requirement for men’s players will be 185 cm, and 165 for women’s players. Other Lengthy requirements will not be changing and will remain at:
    • Strength minimum 65
    • (Strength – Agility) >= 4
    • Acceleration minimum 40
  • Defenders positioned on the goal line can now make automatic clearances in appropriate situations to improve defensive reliability. This is only for last-ditch situations where a defender is already in position to block a certain goal, at a speed that the user might not be able to react to.
  • Shoulder challenges between players with a large Strength Attribute difference will more often result in the player with the lower Strength Attribute stumbling. Also, players with higher Strength and Aggression Attributes can generally be better at shielding the ball.
  • We have further reduced the accuracy of Acrobatic shots, such as bicycle kicks, taken right after a flick.

You can also check out additional gameplay updates in the full Patch Notes.

Football Ultimate Team

We’ve addressed several issues as well as made improvements to the navigation within Ultimate Team.

  • We are adding a New Release hub, a new destination in Ultimate Team which will act as your go-to place to learn about the latest campaigns. You can access this via a new menu tab or through the News tile to see highlighted content and navigate to the latest SBCs, Objectives and more. This menu tab is intended to go live in a server release a few weeks after Title Update 1.4.0.

  • Addressed the following issues:
    • Sometimes a trophy would be displayed in the corner of a pitch.
    • Sometimes after previewing an Evolution consumable item in an Item Pick and returning to the selection screen, the highlighted item would default to the last item previously selected.
    • Addressed cases of a specific UI flow that resulted in the radial menu appearing unintentionally.

Career Mode

We’ve made changes to Career Mode including the following:

  • Expanded Player Status Information by providing separate Contract and General fields, containing info on a player’s willingness to negotiate and their potential.
  • Certain Archetype options are now ineligible based on the selected Origin Story in Player Career.
  • Replaced Starting Skill Level with Starting AP in Player Career, displaying the amount of AP the player is eligible for based on their chosen Origin Story.
  • Adjusted Manager Career Job Security logic for situations when managers reach an Insecure job security status.
  • Contract durations have been extended up to 3 years for ICONs and Heroes.

You can check out the full Career Mode changes and all the issues addressed in the full Patch Notes.

Clubs

We’ve addressed the following issues in Clubs:

  • Addressed cases where incorrect Acceleration Types could have been set by the user.
  • In some cases, the Team Management screen did not display correct Acceleration Types, this was a visual issue only.

PC

We’ve addressed the following issues on the PC version of FC 26:

  • Refresh rate could’ve unintentionally changed to 60Hz at times.
  • Addressed some specific cases of framerate issues occurring in the second half of matches.

Once another patch is out, expect it here on MP1st.

Battlefield 6 Is Bleeding Players, Can DICE Get It Back on Track?

While Battlefield 6 has established itself as quite possibly the most successful game in the franchise in terms of money earned, the sentiment around the shooter has been anything but rosy these days.

After a successful launch, the game has seen its player base spiral downward on PC, at least on Steam. It’s now averaging 100,000+ daily, which is a massive disparity from its initial launch number, where it managed to achieve over 600K players on Steam alone. While there’s no way to know the console player numbers, it’s not unlikely that they also saw a massive decline since the game’s launch.

What’s the cause of this decline? Is it a lackluster content drop for Season 1? The release of Black Ops 7? Players migrating to the next big thing? Or is it simply DICE dropping the ball when it comes to post-release support? It’s hard to pinpoint just one thing, but what I do know is that DICE’s stubbornness and resistance to changes the community wants ain’t exactly helping.

“]

Battlefield 6 Player Count Drops Drastically, and DICE Should Consider Shaking Things Up

While we don’t have one magical panacea that will suddenly have everyone who likes online shooters suddenly jump into the Battlefield 6 pool, we do have a few good ideas on how DICE can possibly turn things around.

Mind, these issues are items that have been raised by the community (and us!) countless times before, and it’s baffling at this point to see the developers continue to ignore the player base.

Just what issues are we talking about? Read on, soldier, and see if you agree with our talking points.

Playing Against Bots Isn’t Ideal

battlefield 6 next update

Aside from XP farming, who wants to play against bots in a full-priced multiplayer game? I know, I’m not the only one who automatically backs out of a lobby the moment they see bots on the scoreboard. This is something we mentioned before, and is also something DICE has acknowledged is an issue.

Will we see this get fixed? Let’s hope so. For those in the US, you might not even experience this issue, but for those in the Middle East, Asia, and other countries? Yeah, it’s a real problem, and one that will deter people from logging in.

It also gives a worrying signal to players. I mean, when you login and see bots on the scoreboard, some people might see it as the game not having enough players online to fill a match, and no one wants to play a dead (or dying) game.

Lack of Class Identity

download Battlefield REDSEC

Open or Closed weapon playlists aren’t even a thing anymore, and we understand that player freedom is something DICE is pushing hard for. However, outside of a few key gadgets, there is a lack of class identity in the game.

In past Battlefield games, the Assault class had the Medic bag, and was essentially the frontline healer. This meant the Support class was the one in charge of delivering ammo and suprressing fire, while the Engineer was tasked to take out vehicles.

This meant the Recon acted as not only as a sniper but as the “spy,” with the class’ motion sensor, spawn beacon and whatnot.

In Battlefield 6, DICE melded the classes into one another. Sure, some might like it, but it also meant some classes are essentially useless in some game modes. In BF6, the Medic/Support and Engineer classes are the ones you really need, since every class can use any weapon. The Support class can heal and give ammo simultaneously while using a submachine gun or any gun they choose, making them indispensable.

Not only that but with the introduction of skins and the like, it also meant eyeing classes are harder than it needs to be. In previous Battlefield games, you can easily tell what class a character is (be it a teammate or an enemy) just by a quick glance. In BF6? Good luck doing that with the different color and clothing combinations. By the time you know what class they are, you’re already dead.

Weapon XP Earn Rate Is Still Crap

Possibly one of the most annoying things in Battlefield 6 is how dreadful earning XP is for gun attachments. Sure, DICE sped up the first 15 or so unlocks, but the actual important stuff? Yeah, they’re usually tucked away among the last things you can unlock in a weapon.

If you want to unlock, let’s say, the SCW-10 submachine gun’s 20-round or 25-round magazine, good luck! As it’s tucked away near the tail end of the gun’s progression, which means you’ll be forced to struggle for hours even before unlocking the gun’s full potential and whether you want to use it or jump to another weapon.

Oh, you want to use another gun? Yeah, you’ll have to grind it too, which means you’ll spend dozens of hours literally on ONE weapon to unlock its full potential.

Unlocking and earning attachments for weapons is an age-old trope for multiplayer shooters, but DICE took the grinding up a notch, and made it so excruciatingly annoying that I wouldn’t be surprised if most players just chose one gun and stuck with it. It’s a shame, too, since the variety of weapons is one of the best we’ve seen in a military first-person shooter.

Server Browser, Server Browser, Server Browser…

Battlefield 6 Winter Offensive Update Highlights

A lot of people in the community have been clamoring for a server browser before the game even launched, and while the game does feature one thanks to Battlefield Portal, it’s not good enough.

Having a working server browser that housed official experiences would help players avoid bots, jump into matches that aren’t ending, and just essentially give them freedom on the maps and modes they want to play.

But nope, DICE is sticking to its guns. It doesn’t seem like we are getting a server browser at all (I’d love to be proven wrong on this), and even with the community’s bitching, it’s not enough for the devs to sway their thoughts on the matter.

I can’t guarantee that featuring a server will bring players back, but at the very least, it couldn’t hurt, right? With the game’s best days already behind it, DICE should do everything it can to incentivize the remaining players to keep playing, and maybe even entice new players to try the game. At the very least, DICE and EA can take comfort that Season 2 should revitalize the game somewhat, and as someone who still plays the game regularly, I sure hope that happens.

Do you agree with our ideas for revitalizing the game or is it a lost cause now given more new games are on the way? Sound off and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Ark Survival Ascended Update 1.077.063 Applies Temporary Fix for an Exploit

Studio Wildcard has released the first patch for Ark Survival Ascended for 2026, and it’s a minor update targeting a an exploit with the wheel, but it’s one the community will appreciate nonetheless.

Console gamers will see this patch appear as Ark Survival Ascended update 1.077.063, with PC gamers able to install this as version 77.62.

For the complete details on today’s update, read on for the official word from the developers.

Ark Survival Ascended’s New Update on January 5, Applies Exploit Fix

Ark Survival Ascended New Update 1.076.001

Here’s what the devs had to say regarding today’s patch:

  • Applied a temporary mitigation for an exploit.
    • This disables emotes/exit on the multi-use wheel while in Feline Form. In the meantime, please use the Feline Form skill to exit. We appreciate your patience while we work on a permanent fix.

(hi guys, sorry for the inconvenience with the wheel but the exploit was pretty nasty and we needed a quick fix asap. Also, belated Happy New Year! )

For reference, there was also a patch released on the last day of 2025, which was for version 77.61.

v77.61 – Minor version for Servers – 12/31/2025

  • Thralls can no longer gain levels while possessed. This prevents a stat allocation issue that caused significant scaling, resulting in thralls becoming far stronger than intended.
    • New and old thralls that did not have any possession-based levels up are unchanged.
    • Thralls that had previous level ups applied via possession, will have their levels reset (needing to be reapplied) and stats re-distributed to eliminate the exploit.
      • Note: There is a known issue where these previously-bugged thralls will continually have their levels reset, needing to be reapplied on Cryopod deployment or server restart. Also, after the first restart the health stat will not be accurate on these thralls (lower than intended), but will be resolved in future restarts. We recommend not using a Thrall that previously had levels applied via possession.
  • Unofficials should run their servers with -FixThrallStats to have the level reset and stat redistribution take place on the thralls that have incorrect scaling.

If Studio Wildcard releases another patch, which we’re expecting to within the next week or so, you’ll see it on here on MP1st.

Report: NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Will Bring a 6x Performance Boost to RTX 50-Series GPUs

One of NVIDIA’s biggest announcements for CES 2026 is set to be revealed tomorrow, but an early leak has seemingly confirmed the launch of its new upscaling technology, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5.

This update is not just a small improvement; it’s a major step forward designed to make full path tracing gaming in 4K resolution possible at high refresh rates.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50 GPUs Promise Up to 6x More Power With AI

DLSS 4.5

The leak, originally revealed by Videocardz, shows that DLSS 4.5 introduces big changes to both the Super Resolution and Frame Generation systems.

To achieve this, Super Resolution now uses a second-generation Transformer model trained on a much larger dataset. It’s been designed to handle more complex scenes with improved contextual understanding, smarter pixel sampling, and more accurate image reconstruction.

In practice, this results in better temporal stability, less ghosting, and cleaner anti-aliasing. Simply put, DLSS 4.5 tackles many of the visual problems seen in previous versions.

The most exciting feature is the new Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, which can now generate up to six AI frames for every single frame produced by the GPU. This adaptive system can dynamically adjust the number of AI-generated frames to match the monitor’s refresh rate. According to NVIDIA, this could make it possible for a GPU to run a fully path-traced game in 4K at a stable 240Hz.

DLSS 4.5 focuses on delivering extreme graphical settings without sacrificing either performance or visual quality. Internal demos reportedly show fully path-traced games reaching 240 frames per second in 4K, something that was previously unthinkable without lowering quality. Whether it truly delivers on that promise will be clear once official demos are released.

It’s also worth noting that Dynamic Multi Frame Generation will be exclusive to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. Meanwhile, the improved Super Resolution Transformer will be available for all RTX cards. The new feature is expected to launch in spring 2026.

NVIDIA will be hosting its CES panel tomorrow, where all of this is expected to be revealed, with a demonstration.

Bloober Team Registers Trademark for ‘Onyx: The Dark Grip’

A new game from Bloober Team might be on the way, possibly titled Onyx: The Dark Grip. The name recently appeared in a trademark filing by the Polish studio, best known for creating horror games such as Silent Hill 2 Remake and The Medium.

The title was found in documents from the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Although the registration was made a few months ago, it only became widely noticed recently. The timing of this discovery is interesting, as the team is currently managing several different projects at the same time.

Bloober Team Hints at a New Game Called ‘Onyx: The Dark Grip’

Onyx: The Dark Grip trademark

Recently, Bloober Team launched a teaser website for an unknown game that features a countdown timer ending around February 15. This suggests that an announcement could arrive in mid-February.

It’s possible that the two clues — the trademark and the countdown — are connected. If so, the mysterious project to be revealed might indeed be Onyx: The Dark Grip. For now, all we can do is wait and see what the studio reveals next.

In addition to the Silent Hill projects, Bloober Team is also developing several other games under code names such as Project C, Project G, and Project H. Two more titles, Project M and Project F, are being created in collaboration with external partners.

In related news, Bloober Team recently stated that fans won’t have to wait long between major game releases, hinting at a faster schedule after Cronos: The New Dawn and Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Battlefield 6 Under Fire for Copying Call of Duty’s Ghosts Logo

While there are certain similarities when it comes to soldier uniforms and whatnot for most military shooter games, the latest mask for Battlefield 6 bears a resemblance a tad too much from its main rival, Call of Duty.

The new Battlefield 6 skin introduced in the first-person shooter’s in-game store bears a striking resemblance to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ logo, and after seeing the evidence, it’s hard to refute that whomever designed this (it might be AI, we can’t say for sure, of course), probably was influenced by Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Don’t believe us? Take a look for yourself and you be the judge.

Battlefield 6 Skin Copies Call of Duty: Ghosts

While the image above (via ) might seem like it’s your standard face mask with white paint on it, a deeper look into it will show the similarities. As X (formerly Twitter) user DETONATED has pointed out, Battlefield 6’s mask has the same small details like the crack on the upper left side, the crack across the right side, and the pointy, thinning white part on the lower right side.

We’ve included the image in the before-and-after slider below, which will let you compare the two images yourself.

I have to admit, DICE’s design on their Battlefield 6 mask clearly seems to have been influenced by Call of Duty’s, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s because of AI (Artificial Intelligence). As more and more game developers rely on AI to design stuff, expect more instances like this to happen.

Will Activision do something about this? We can’t say for sure, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they did, though given it is the holidays, that might have to wait until we’re in 2026.

If Activision does something about this or if EA recalls the mask, we’ll let our readers know. For now, we’re waiting on more details for Battlefield 6’s Season 2, which should happen sometime in early January.

In other news related to both Battlefield and Call of Duty, Vince Zampella, the legendary game developer who co-created the Call of Duty franchise and was tasked as the head of EA”s Battlefield brand, has passed away recently due to a car accident.

Report: PlayStation Removes Mention of Convallaria Off Their Lineup of China Hero Projects in Production; Devs Accuse Execs of Mismanagement

Convallaria, a title published under PlayStation’s China Hero Project program, has mysteriously vanished over the past few years, with fans wondering whether it was cancelled. With a new development update surfacing today, the title is indeed not dead; it seems PlayStation is no longer listing the game as part of its program, according to a recent update on its China Hero Project website.

Not only that, but the game’s developers have reached out to MP1st regarding the game’s troubled development and accusations of mismanagement, and other shenanigans.

Could there be some truth to those allegations, or is this a mere coincidence?

Big Trouble in PlayStation’s China Hero Project

This past weekend, we received documents containing complaint letters sent to SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment), outlining the ongoing progress of Loongforce’s upcoming title, Convallaria, and why it has yet to receive a release date. Details on said documents were recently published by Noisy Pixel, which, based on their information, were the same documents given to us.

To sum up everything, and why we have yet to see any substantial update on the game, be that a release date, a new trailer, or any marketing for the past few years, it’s allegedly due to the management in charge of the China Hero Project, who have apparently been stalling funding being threatened with more delays of payments, ignoring lines of communication, and making outlandish demands that included asking for tasks that had already been completed, attempting to bring an IT firm that the managment has personal aquintance with and making the studio pay for it, and even going as far as trying to hijack the project and take over completely.

Included in the documentation provided to us are email exchanges between Loongforce and Bo Bao, Director of China Game Production at Sony Interactive Entertainment. These discussions, which we translated below for clarity, appear to corroborate Loongforce’s accusations regarding delayed payments and explicit threats to have the support studio Virtuos take over the project’s development completely.

We reached out to a few sources during the course of our investigation, with one of them noting that it’s pretty “normal” to see another studio come and take over, but only for a specific part of the development, and not the entire thing, which was inferred as being out of the norm.

But the one odd piece of “evidence” (if we can call it that) that we found outside of the sent documents during our investigation is that PlayStation recently rolled out a webpage update on their China Hero Project pages, affecting web pages found in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Countries in Asia and Oceania have not yet been affected by this webpage update. When you look at it, you’ll notice that projects that were previously under production and released have been removed, while those still in production or recently announced have been added to the pages. Convallaria, however, has been removed entirely from the updated regional pages.

Before anyone brings up the possibility of this being some technical issue, where the page can’t display more than eight tiles (which would be ridiculous), we did check out the latest archived page for https://www.playstation.com/en-us/china-hero-project/, which a snapshot was taken back in October 16, 2025 (a little over two months ago) and not only does it show that the webpage can support up to 13 game listed, but also shows that the page itself was updated within the last two months.

Is this a coincidence? Possibly, but the update comes at a suspicious time, when the studio has apparently been left in the dark by SIE. Could this be a mistake on their end, thinking all the phase 2 games were already out? Or perhaps it hints at them quietly dropping the project, which may explain the lack of any movement internally the last few months.

Whether the game turns out to be a major commercial success or a complete dud, it is disheartening to see a small studio like Loongforce treated so dismissively. If there is any truth to what they claim, it doesn’t make a great impression on the China Hero Project, especially for indie studios looking to be a part of it in the future.

We reached out to Sony for a statement and will update the article if we hear anything back.

Report: BioShock 4 Brief Glimpse Into the Characters and Setting

BioShock 4 has become one of those games that feels like it might never see the light of day, only to suddenly show a faint pulse just when we’ve stopped looking. The project has been in development at studio Cloud Chamber since 2018, yet after all this time, we have scarce details and not a single frame of official footage.

A report from Bloomberg paints a picture of development hell, revealing narrative rewrites that may have delayed the launch well past 2027. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, however, remains publicly confident about the publisher’s upcoming lineup, stating that the game “is going to come out” eventually.

On a brighter note, we haven’t been left entirely in the dark, as we’ve received a few crumbs in the form of leaks over the years. One of these was the reveal of a setting placed in a 1960s Antarctic city called Borealis, while others have offered a raw glimpse into production, such as the early development image we revealed in our report from last year.

Now, for the part you are likely most interested in: we have recently obtained a collection of previously unreleased details about the game. These details include planned locations, a look at assets that may reveal the main villain and protagonist, a brief insight into development, and more.

First Look at the Setting and Environment Details

It wouldn’t be a BioShock game without a society on the brink of collapse. Among the things we’ve learned from this game, there are a few locations we’re bound to see, like the inclusion of a prominent casino. This inclusion makes perfect sense, as we have repeatedly seen gambling throughout the series, most notably via slot machines. This time, however, it seems to be on a grander scale, potentially serving as the stage for a major set-piece battle.

Additionally, separate intel points to a specific district or location named “Solaria” (or “Solaris”). While not depicted in the visual assets we’ve obtained, we have heard multiple mentions of this place, along with a specific class of individuals known as “Solarians”. Whether these are the elites controlling the city, a faction of enemies, or simply everyday citizens remains to be seen.

On the environmental side, we know that snow will play a role in the game’s atmosphere. This might come as a no-brainer to those following the reports of an Antarctic setting, but the confirmation of these weather effects suggests that it could be central to the experience.

However, beyond the frozen exterior, we also have assets that appear to be early technical tests, confirming the inclusion of massive, canyon-style landscapes. Considering the snow, it will be interesting to see how this is implemented. We can also see assets for cables and machinery that, even though they are nothing mind-blowing, certainly help us confirm that the artist’s aim is to retain the stylized look seen in BioShock Infinite.

A Brief Glimpse at the Characters

Perhaps most exciting for long-time fans is the possible return of an ecosystem similar to the original games. While we haven’t seen the word “Splicer” explicitly, we have found references to a specific individual or entity labeled as a “Male Flusher”. While their role is unconfirmed, we speculate that these “Flushers” could function as this city’s equivalent to the Splicers of Rapture.

Furthermore, we have heard about the possible return of the ADAM substance in some capacity. This substance from the first two games is known for granting superhuman abilities to its users and for causing addiction with its overuse, which fuels the hypothesis of crazed citizens roaming the city again.

As for who could be pulling the strings from behind the curtain, we have obtained images of a striking golden statue depicting a stern male figure. He is shown with arms raised high in an Atlas-like pose, a stance that clicks into place when viewing the third picture, which displays three of these identical figures hoisting three world-like spheres to support a massive central globe structure overhead.

Considering the detail put into elements of the statue, like the facial features and the hairstyle, we theorize that it’s supposed to represent the game’s central antagonist. This follows the series’ long-standing tradition of villains who are venerated by their own cities, much like Andrew Ryan in BioShock or Zachary Comstock in Infinite.

Now that we have seen the villain, you might want to meet the hero. Well, if you have been paying attention to the pics featuring assets, you might notice that alongside the rocks, there’s a small character placed there as a scale reference, which could be the first look at our main protagonist. The figure appears to be a man clad in a sharp, grey suit and tie, fitting perfectly with the mid-century aesthetic the series is known for.

Of course, we cannot rule out the possibility that this is merely a placeholder for a standard NPC rather than the main hero. However, his sharp attire bears a striking resemblance to the Booker DeWitt archetype, and the fact that this specific model was chosen to demonstrate the environment’s scale certainly raises our eyebrows.

Unfortunately, it’s known that getting to this point hasn’t been easy. Our sources corroborate reports of a turbulent development cycle, specifically citing a difficult period in (or prior to) 2022. Now that we know the project is undergoing narrative changes, it is hard to predict how much might change from the iterations of the game seen here. Hopefully, despite the rewrites, the interesting details we’ve glimpsed here, and the core DNA of the series, will make the final cut.

Ironically, the game that currently looks closer to release is Judas, the new project from BioShock creator Ken Levine. Though this title also endured development hell, we recently received a fresh look at the game, confirming that the project is alive and well. If you are yearning for a spiritual successor that is basically a new BioShock in everything but name, this is certainly one to look out for.

Elden Ring and Multiplayer Spin-off Nightreign Down on December 24

While Christmas is a day of celebration, happiness and some much-needed time off for a lot of people, gamers might not be getting the type of relaxation they’re looking for, as multiple games are knocked out, largely in part to Epic Games.

It’s not just US-made games that are affected, as Elden Ring (2022) and the newly released multiplayer-focused spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, have their servers down on December 24 — at least on PC.

Elden Ring and Nightreign Down and Offline on December 24

Multiple gamers have reported on the game’s outage, which seems to affect PC gamers given the issues with Epic Games. We can confirm with our own testing that Elden Ring (the first one) and Nightreign are both having issues connecting.

Aside from Elden Ring, multiple games are also down, and these include: ARC Raiders, Fortnite, Ready or Not, and more.

In related Elden Ring news, Nightreign recently got a server-side hotfix via veresion 1.03.1, which included the following changes:

  • Added the enhanced version of Balancers, Salvation’s Standard-Bearers, as potential targets in the Deep of Night mode if you own The Forsaken Hollows DLC.
    • This boss can only appear if matched with players that also own the DLC.

Ready Or Not Servers Down on December 24 as Issues With Epic Games Persist

For those trying to squad up for a round of Ready Or Not, you may have noticed that the servers are down. For those wondering, it’s because the game uses Epic Games services, which are currently experiencing a major outage across multiple games.

Ready Or Not Servers’ Status for December 24 and December 25

Those seeing the “Unable to Authenticate” error, followed by the message stating you need to check if you are logged into your platform (such as the PlayStation Network), know that this isn’t because of the PlayStation Network, or Xbox, or even Steam, but rather due to the worldwide outage that Epic Games is currently experiencing.

It’s not just them, either, as many titles that use Amazon Web Services (in addition to Epic Games) are also down, such as Among UsARC RaidersRocket LeagueARK Survival Ascended, and so many others.

At the moment, we’ll all have to wait until the issues are resolved, which have been going on for a few hours now. Void Interactive hasn’t issued any statement yet, though, considering it is Christmas, they could be off celebrating it.

Not that it really matters, because again, the issue is all on Epic Games’ side, and until they fix it, there’s not much Void Interactive can do.

As with any outage, we’ll continue to monitor the situation, and should any improvements arise, we’ll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, go celebrate Christmas, or if you haven’t already, go play Ready Or Not single-player mode, as that is still accessible.
