Kojima’s OD Trailer Has Letters Hidden Inside Actors’ Mouths

During The Game Awards, Hideo Kojima debuted his new upcoming game, “OD” There wasn’t much to go based on the trailer to know exactly what kind of game it was, outside of being a horror experience. Something that has been very common with games by Kojima production is that the director seemingly loves to dish out weird hints, and that’s exactly what he’s done with OD, as fans have noticed a set of letters hidden away in the mouths of the actors through the trailer.

OD Trailer – Hideo Kojima

At first glance, this appears to be a trailer featuring talking and screaming floating heads. That’s because it is, and it left many in the gaming community mostly confused. And though this provides no details as to what kind of game we can expect from OD, fans have examined the trailer frame by frame, and to their shocking revelation, have discovered that letters have been secretly placed inside the mouths of the actors.

ATAMI
byu/Turik2507 inOD_Kojima

A total of five letters have been found, which end up spelling “ATAMI.” For those unaware, Atami is a real-world city, located in Shizuoka. This is important because it has been long speculated that Atami is the location where the Silent Hill franchise is based, with further evidence being that Shizuoka when written in Japan, translates to “Silent Hill.”

If you think that’s a reach, then you should also take into account that Kojima and Jordan Peele appeared out of a door that was obviously a clear reference to P.T., Kojima’s canceled Silent Hill project, dubbed Silent Hills.

Mind you, Kojima loves playing mind games on his fanbase, as previously seen with Death Stranding and the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

My take? I don’t think it’s a Silent Hill game at all. While Kojima could have simply omitted it so as to not spoil the surprise, none of Konami’s logos or trademarks are featured anywhere in the trailer or on the official OD website. There hasn’t even been a single mention from Konami themselves on it, but again that could be to hide the surprise. Though I do feel they’ve been pretty forward about their projects as of late.

I think the reason why we are seeing so many references to P.T. and Silent Hill is simply because Kojima wants to make the game he’s always wanted to do. What we are seeing are old ideas repurposed for OD. So while it may point to Silent Hill, I think this will be more of a spiritual successor of sorts to it.

But that’s speculation. I do think we should keep them in check however, as you may end up being disappointed when it turns out not being a new Silent Hill game from the studio. Either way, I expect the next year to be a crazy one, as more and more new things get uncovered leading to OD’s release, whenever that might be.

        • Fixed an issue where, when transforming with a super transphere at the same level as an equipped Whis transphere, under certain conditions, such as performing a close-range attack at the same time as the Raider, the player could not perform any further actions until either hit by a close-range attack by the Raider or the Limit Gauge reached 0 and the transformation ended.
        • Fixed an issue where some avatar clothing items intended to be worn simultaneously could not be equipped together

Miscellaneous

      • Fixed an issue where when downed by an attack immediately after executing the action for a super transphere, the transformation animation would not be correctly displayed and after it completed the player would be downed.
      • Fixed an issue where, if a survivor was underwater when a separate area was destroyed and then certain animations such as transformations via super transphere were performed, water effects would not be applied correctly.
      • Fixed an issue affecting the Raiders Majin Buu and the Ginyu Force where, if they were attacked at a certain timing while evolving from evolution level 2 to evolution level 3, their HP would be reduced to zero.
      • Fixed an issue affecting the Raider Broly where after using certain area-destroying moves or Super Attacks, the barrier generated by the active skill Omega Blaster or the Super Attack Blaster Meteor could not be reduced even when hit by certain Super Attacks of Survivors.

F1 23 Update 1.18 Hits the Course This December 11 (Update)

Codemasters has released F1 23 update 1.18 (PS5 update version 1.018), and this is another patch that brings in improvements and fixes to the Formula One racing sim. Read on for what’s new down in the patch notes.

F1 23 Update 1.18 Patch Notes | F1 23 Update 1.018 Patch Notes:

Update: Official patch notes have been added.

  • Addition of content for use in F1 World Events

So far, Codemasters has not released any official patch notes or acknowledgement of the title update just yet.

There is a recent driver ratings update for the end of the season, which we’ve included below.

  • Max Verstappen – 96 RTG
  • Sergio Perez – 87 RTG
  • Lewis Hamilton – 92 RTG
  • George Russell – 87 RTG

You can check out the driver ratings hub for a more detailed look at each stat and comparison.

For the last time in 2023, here’s how the scores for the drivers have been created:
  • Racecraft (RAC): Racecraft describes a driver’s ability to work their way through the pack to finish the race higher up than where they started.
  • Experience (EXP): This stat has been amended this year to determine how much value each race result contributes to the driver’s experience in the earlier and mid stages of their career. Fernando Alonso’s record of race starts is used as the max points for the experience rating, sitting at 99 points.
  • Pace (PAC): Pace rewards the drivers who get closest to the fastest Race and Qualifying lap times as well as the difference to their teammates.
  • Awareness (AWA): Awareness rewards drivers who avoid the stewards’ room. And for the ones that don’t, the severity of errors now counts more towards their Awareness rating.
  • Overall Rating (RTG): A combination of all driver stats that lays out each driver’s ability within F1® 23, with a higher weighting for Pace.

So, who were the big movers who shook the final Ratings? Let’s take a look:

Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri’s maiden season in F1® was nothing short of remarkable. With only 5 points going into the British Grand Prix, he made up for lost time with a series of incredible performances, which saw him take two podiums on his way to 97 points and 9th in the overall standings.

As a Rookie, Piastri’s stats started at a moderate 76, but some blistering performances, including back-to-back podiums in Japan and Qatar, saw his ratings soar to finish on 85.

Despite a couple of less-than-stellar results to finish the season, Piastri closed with his Pace up two, Racecraft up two, and Experience up one, making him one of the biggest movers of the 2023 season.

Oscar Piastri – 83 RTG

Charles Leclerc

Some epic moments from Charles and much frustration will have him counting down the days to the start of the 2024 season. With a little more luck, this season could have been so different for Ferrari’s leading points scorer.

Despite a DNF in Brazil, Charles bounced back to show his true mettle to take back-to-back second-place finishes to close out the season on 206 points and fifth place overall.

He rounded off the season with his Pace up one, which helped take his Overall rating to 90, becoming one of only five drivers to hit this milestone.

Charles Leclerc – 89 RTG

Carlos Sainz

A very consistent season for Carlos but, similar to his teammate, one that will leave him knowing there were more points left on the track.

Three podiums including a win in Singapore will give Carlos confidence, and he’ll want to achieve more next season, both in terms of points (200) and final standing of seventh.

Despite seeing both his Experience and Racecraft increasing by one, and Pace up two, a DNF in Abu Dhabi sees his Overall rating drop one to 90, the same as his Ferrari teammate.

Carlos Sainz Jr. – 91 RTG

In addition to the driver changes info, you can check out the list of confirmed items the dev team is investigating (it’s mentioned that the next expected patch is in January 2024, which means these issues might not have been fixed with today’s update).🚧 INVESTIGATING 🚧

  • F1® lap times showing on F2™ Leaderboards in Time Trial
  • Tyre wear at 100% on race start after an F2™ Sprint race

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know and update the article.

Check Out the GTA 6 Trailer Recreated in Grand Theft Auto 5

To say that Grand Theft Auto fans are excited about GTA 6 would be an understatement, as since the reveal, fans have been running rampant with speculations, breakdowns, and theories about the series’ next iteration. One fan, though, has taken it upon themselves to return to Grand Theft Auto 5 to recreate the GTA 6 trailer from within the game! Check it out, it’s pretty damn good!

GTA 6 Trailer Recreated in GTA 5

Many things are spot on, and if you need a refresher for comparison, here’s the GTA 6 trailer.

What I think is even more evident in this trailer is how much easier it is now to compare the two titles. GTA 5 is a fantastic-looking game, but GTA 6 seems to be taking things a notch up regarding visuals and density. Of course, it’s still a long way out, so much of the visuals we see in the trailer could change. However, given Rockstar’s history of revealing trailers and how the final product looks, I expect the visuals to look even better when the game is released.

GTA 6 will arrive 2025 on the PlayStation and Xbox Series X|S. There has been no mention of a GTA 6 PC release, though we speculate it’ll arrive a year or more later after the console release.

Don’t Expect a Final Fantasy 16 Sequel, Development Team Has Disbanded

In general, Final Fantasy games are typically one-offs, with a few here and there getting follow-ups directly after their releases. The most recent examples are Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, each a trilogy, even if the latter has yet to release them all. But outside of that, sequels to Final Fantasy games aren’t all that common, even if one eventually comes in a more minor form factor decades later. This is unfortunate, as I’m sure plenty would love to see follow-ups for some of their characters in the franchise. Sadly, one of those releases that won’t get to see is a Final Fantasy 16 sequel, as the producer doesn’t expect one to happen.

For those wanting more Final Fantasy 16 in the form of a sequel, you’ll be disappointed to know that the development team has mostly been disbanded, outside of those staying to make the recently announced DLC. This was confirmed to Famitsu in a recent interview with producer Naoki Yoshida (aka Yoshi-P)

“The development team for FF16 has been disbanded, except for the main DLC team, but at least we don’t imagine that we’ll create a sequel or spin-off to FF16. This time, I have accumulated a lot of knowledge from FF16. Rather than continuing with one title forever, I would like to use that knowledge to consider new challenges, such as the next title. However, if you ask me if there will be anything related to FF16 in the future, I don’t know. I don’t know what will happen, so I won’t say anything explicitly “

I suppose the old saying is, never say never, and while there are no immediate plans to revisit Final Fantasy 16 with a direct sequel, it could still be expanded with other formats. DLC is one of those examples in which the game just got its first one. While Echoes of the Fallen is a short one, a beefier expansion is planned for release in 2024.

Still, I’m sure many would love to see a direct sequel to Final Fantasy 16, myself included, as I loved Final Fantasy 16 in my review stating, “Those looking for the series’ return to glory, rejoice! Final Fantasy XVI is that game, and this is one fantasy you’ll want to make sure you’re a part of.”

Marvel’s Blade Does Not Have Any Mention of Xbox in Trailers, Microsoft Won’t Say If Exclusive or Not

One of the biggest surprises at The Game Awards this year was the announcement of Marvel’s Blade, a project being developed by Arkane Lyon. Despite being an Xbox-owned studio (under Bethesda), one rather odd thing was that the game featured mention of Xbox itself. This has led many online to speculate that Marvel’s Blade isn’t an Xbox exclusive and will be coming to other platforms, such as PlayStation.

It seems that Xbox doesn’t even know either, or at least is making the gaming community believe that, as they’ve declined even to clarify the confusion.

If you’ve watched the trailer again, you’ll see no mentions of any platforms despite Arkane being an Xbox-owned studio. It’s rather odd, with many speculating the reasoning being that it’s either not an exclusive or because it wasn’t an Xbox-specific event; they chose not to have any Xbox wrappers. However, that hasn’t stopped PlayStation from using its logo in both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Wolverine games, so I don’t think that’s the reason behind the lack of Xbox logos.

VG247 recently contacted Xbox via email to get some answers but was met with a “decline to comment” reply.

Our thoughts? We think Marvel’s Blade will be an exclusive on Xbox for consoles, with a planned PC release following past Xbox releases. The lack of platforms could be due to negotiations and such still going on behind closed doors. It’s still odd, but we’ll likely have a more concrete answer at the next major Xbox showcase. We’d be surprised if the game ends up being multiplatform, though Bethesda did say their game releases would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Could this be a scenario where Bethesda’s deal with Marvel happened before the company got acquired by Microsoft, and part of it was releasing the game on multiple platforms? We can’t say for sure, but who knows at this point, right?

Whether Blade is an Xbox exclusive or not, I’m just hoping the studio can pull it off and do the character justice.

Marvel’s Blade is currently targeting a 2025 release, and once we know more about the game, we’ll let our readers know.

GTA 6: Florida Joker Demands $2 Million From Rockstar for “Taking” His Life; Gets Roasted By Red Dead’s Arthur Morgan Instead

Florida Joker is demanding talks with Rockstar Games over using his likeness for Loenida Joker in the Grand Theft Autp 6 announcement trailer, but instead, is met with a dose of logic and some roasting from Roger Clark, the voice of Arthur Morgan from the Red Dead Redemption 2.

Florida Joker is back in the news yet again, and we aren’t speaking (at least entirely) about the parody version we saw in Rockstar’s GTA 6 trailer. Lawrence Sullivan, a Florida Man who went viral in 2017 for his mugshots that the internet quickly dubbed as “Florida Joker” due to his pale face and tattoo-covered face, is in the news again after watching the GTA 6 trailer himself. Rather than understanding that the character Rockstar has is simply a parody, or as some lawyers have chimed in, “another man,” Sullivan instead sets out demands for Rockstar Games to speak to him or give him one or two million dollars, as they’ve taken his life.

While Rockstar Games has yet to chime in, at least publicly, the voice actor behind Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan, Roger Clark, took it upon himself to address Lawrence, citing that Rockstar has had people try (and fail) to sue them for decades for the very reason.

“No, you don’t. You don’t need to talk to them. They’re not going to talk to you. They’ve had people like you trying to sue them for decades. They are lawyered up man, they know exactly what they can and can’t get away with. If I were you, I would use the notoriety they just threw your way to my advantage. Capitalize on it somehow. You aren’t getting a job at Home Depot with that face.”

As Clark mentions, this wouldn’t be the first time Rockstar has been threatened over the use of likenesses, as back in 2014, actor Lindsey Lohan sued the studio and publisher over GTA 5. Its main cover character featured a female character who Lindsey claimed was based on her. The case was thrown out, with her eventually requesting an appeal, which was denied

Other examples of characters based on real-life people can be seen throughout the South Park series, which has parodied countless celebrities. The show creators have been threatened and sued, yet are usually protected due to their parodies fitting fair use laws.

Rockstar Games know what they can do and likely expected this situation to arise. I won’t pretend to know the law inside and out, but I can say that Mr. Lawrence will be in a long battle if he decides to take legal action against the studio. I don’t see this going down the way he expects since there have already been past cases that have failed for the very reason against Rockstar and other companies.

What do you think, though? Does Florida Joker have something here, or should he take Roger Clark’s advice and look for another way to profit from it?

The Finals Private Matches Is Something Embark Wants to Do, Crossovers Not Ruled Out

Just this Friday, Embark Studios launched free-to-play shooter, The Finals. While the game features a lot of the features you’d expect from a modern shooter, one thing it doesn’t have is private lobbies or private matches. Fortunately, the studio does want to implement a The Finals private matches features, but can’t tell when players will exactly get it.

This was mentioned by the studio in chatting with MP1st for the game. Speaking to us, Creative Director Gustav Tilleby mentioned that private matches for The Finals is something they want to do in the future.

MP1ST: Private lobbies, is that going to be happening?

Gustav Tilleby: Not for launch, but, it’s definitely something that we want to do in the future. When exactly it will come I can’t really answer right now.

In the same interview, we asked the devs whether there are plans to do crossovers for the game, as this is something we’re seeing more and more of in multiplayer games. Embark Senior Environment Artist Sven Grundberg states they are not ruling it out, but they need to be careful in doing those kinds of things.

MP1ST: Crossovers. GAAS games love doing them, and The Finals seem to be the perfect game to have them. Anything on that front? Hints? Discussion? What are the team’s thoughts on them in general?

Sven Grundberg: Our focus first, and foremost is to launch a really good game, right? We’re not ruling them out, but we don’t have any such plans to announce at the moment. I think we’re going to be very careful in terms of who we partner up with. I think the most important thing for us as we do any potential tie ins would be to, that it fits the game. I think being super careful about it and that it’s fitting our game.

That is the most important thing for us. Then, if we manage to make that happen, then why not? But we have nothing to announce about that at the moment. For launch, there are no tie-ins.

Well, there you have it. Hopefully, private matches will be part of a future title update. If you’re wondering why there’s no roadmap released for The Finals, head on over here for Embark’s explanation.

Den of Wolves Preview – Back on the Heist

On a random Monday in November, GTFO developer 10 Chambers invited MP1st to a private preview event at Unity’s office in San Francisco. Not only would they let us experience the upcoming, and final, GTFO Rundown (GTFO’s name for new content drops), but they also had something brand-new to share. Den of Wolves was that something, as the developer proudly declared that they were “back on that heist shit.”

With the reveal of Den of Wolves. We spent a few minutes discussing the upcoming co-op shooter, and have all the details the press release didn’t cover below.

Semi-Futuristic Heisting

The (perhaps unofficial) slogan “back on that heist shit” is an obvious nod to the developer’s history, as Creative Director and CEO of 10 Chambers Ulf Andersson was the game designer for Payday and Payday 2. Den of Wolves is a slightly futuristic, techno-thriller cooperative heist game. Set towards the end of the 21st century, the global economy collapsed due to nefarious use of ever more sophisticated AI. Powerful corporations lobbied to develop a new form of communication, because simply getting online could wipe you out. The cost for this development, though, was a private location known as Midway City, essentially a sovereign metropolis where no one was bound by those pesky things known as laws and ethics. Unshackled by traditional rules, development quickly flourished and produced a new way to store and retrieve data, using human brains (the details are not really expounded upon here). While this does stabilize the global economy as capitalism can stay alive so long as business can be securely transacted, a consequence of having a city with no laws means competition is cutthroat, because anything goes.

Thus, you play as a professional criminal who lives in this world, where you’ll be tasked with committing corporate espionage, sabotage, assassinations, and probably more. Much like GTFO before it (and quite unlike the Payday games before that), missions will often include stealth sections, followed by intense action, and then things can quiet down as you collect loot, patch yourself or your teammates, and prepare for the next area. Though, of course, this pacing is dictated by the players’ actions.

Co-Op? Of Course!

It wouldn’t be a 10 Chambers game without a heavy emphasis on teamwork, and Den of Wolves promises to deliver that in spades. It’ll allow for four-player co-op, though as things are extremely early in terms of development, not even something as simple as player roles or equipment was explained. The Unity Engine is going to be utilized once again, which is not so surprising when you remember that GTFO was also developed using that engine. They are going to target current-generation consoles alongside PCs, so don’t expect any keyboard-heavy commands such as terminals that you need to type in manually.

GTFO is well-known for being a hardcore shooter. Enemies can kill you quickly, friendly fire is ALWAYS on, resources are limited. In summation, it’s a tough game that pulls no punches, and mercilessly punishes mistakes. Den of Wolves is aiming to be a more accessible game. While probably still not much easier, an emphasis was made during the presentation that more people should be able to complete the missions in the game. The location of Midway City allows 10 Chambers to have brighter and more varied environments, even taking the action outside while being several stories in the sky. By no means a cheery game, Den of Wolves is a drastic tone shift from GTFO.

Grab a Friend or Three

To give a more visual idea of what the game is going for vibe-wise, 10 Chambers showed us a not-for-broadcast concept video, which featured a professional voiceover played over footage of clips from heist-related, political, military contractor, and corporate movies and television shows. So, picture assassins taking their shot, people being taken away in a van, hacking, and a generally dark future where you have to constantly look over your shoulder as you chase the almighty dollar. There was even a second or so of what appeared to be early gameplay footage, though of course as it’s so early in development things are likely to change between now and whenever the game does finally release.

If you felt that GTFO was fun but perhaps a bit too unforgiving, it does seem like 10 Chambers is intent on giving you something that can allow for less of a steep learning curve. It’ll be best played with three friends, frenemies, or other acquaintances, but the increased accessibility might make games with random people online approachable. It’s still far too early in development to talk about release dates, but 10 Chambers is clearly excited to be “back on that heist shit,” and it shows.

As of now, Den of Wolves has no release date or window, and is slated for PC. Stay tuned for more coverage here on MP1st, as we have an interview with 10 Chambers going up soon.

Sega Announces Five New Games: Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, and More Being Revived

Sega announced a whopping five games at once at The Game Awards this year, all of which are new entries in classic franchises like Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and more. The games were all revealed in a brief trailer that showed gameplay snippets of each one confirming that the franchises are all getting revivals.

You can view the reveal trailer here:

In the trailer, we can see gameplay for a new Jet Set Radio, a new Streets of Rage, a Shinobi, a Golden Axe, and of course, a Crazy Taxi. Each of these games looks to have a new, modern spin on them, getting new up-to-date graphics. We haven’t seen entries in most of these franchises in years.

We had heard rumors of a Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi reboot being worked on at Sega as early as last year. We even saw some brief gameplay of the Jet Set Radio reboot earlier this year. While that announcement is no surprise, the rest seemingly came out of nowhere.

Hopefully, these new entries do these classic franchises justice. We’re sure long-time Sega fans are looking forward to their release.

Dave the Diver Dredge DLC Drops on December 15

A new Dave the Diver Dredge DLC has just been announced at The Game Awards. This DLC brings all sorts of crossover content from Dredge over to Dave the Diver later this month.

Here’s the DLC trailer:

From the trailer, we can see all sorts of horrific creatures and the iconic Dredge ship from the titular game surround Dave as he continues to, well, dive. It looks much darker and more sinister than Dave the Diver typically is, and we can’t wait.

The Dave the Diver Dredge DLC will launch on December 15, which is just around the corner. Fans won’t have to wait too long to hop into it. We also hope that this marks a potential future of other great crossover DLCs for Dave the Diver. I suppose we’ll see what the future holds.

If you’re interested in other games by Dave the Diver’s developer, you can check out their latest announcement here.

Apex Legends Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Crossover Begins January 9

Apex Legends is getting a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover starting on January 9. A trailer for the crossover was unveiled during last night’s Game Awards ceremony, and it looks as though several FF7-themed items will be slashing onto the scene.

You can view the teaser below:

While we don’t currently have many details on the crossover, we can see from the video that Cloud’s signature Buster Blade will make an appearance. Additionally, from the thumbnail art it appears as though we’ll get some unique FF7 costumes for certain characters.

We’ve yet to see just how deep this crossover goes, but we’re excited to see it happen. There’s no such thing as too much Final Fantasy 7 content, no matter what you want to say about Advent Children. Hopefully this does the series justice.

In terms of Apex Legends’ own story, the last part of Kill Code recently released, and you can check that out here.
