Gamer Strategically Stacks Turkish PlayStation Plus Subscriptions up to 2050 to Circumvent Price Hike

Sony sneakily announced an increase in the price of yearly ‘PlayStation Plus’ subscription along with the PS Plus titles for the month of September, 2023. The new price was set to go live on September 6, 2023, but one of the gamers decided to that they are not going to pay at the increased rates and took matters into their own hands. They subscribed to the Turkish PlayStation Plus subscription for 27 years up until 2050.

Note that the Turkish PSN Store offers significantly lower prices compared to other regions. In many places where people are unable to afford their native version, they opt for the Turkish one, and this applies to both games and it seems, PlayStation Plus subscriptions too.

If you compare it with the US, the price difference was quite substantial. You had to pay $60 for the most basic version called PS Essential, $100 for PS Extra, and $120 for PS Premium. On a Turkish account, you only needed to pay 240TL for PS Essential, which rounds up to about $9, PS Extra for 400TL ($15) and PS Premium or Deluxe for 460TL ($17). So, it was indeed smart of this individual to choose the most affordable option available and take advantage. Now, they won’t have to worry about paying for online multiplayer, cloud storage or monthly free games.

Turkish PlayStation Plus

While 27 years is a considerable stretch and carries its fair share of uncertainties, it remains unclear whether PS Plus will persist in its current form or even exist at all in the distant future.

However, the gamer in question is not worried about the unknown; they simply want to ensure that everything is set and ready to go for the next few generations of PlayStation.

Do you think subscribing to Turkish PlayStation Plus up to 2050 was the right decision? Share your opinions in the comments below!

EA UFC 5 Releases Oct. 27; Trailer, Game Features and Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed

EA has announced the UFC 5 release date and it’s set for October 27, 2023 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S! Those who avail of the Digital Deluxe Edition will be able to play three days early on October 24. In addition to that, EA has also revealed the UFC 5 pre-order bonuses too.

While there’s really no reason to pre-order a game given stock isn’t really going to run out, EA makes a compelling case for it with UFC 5 given the pre-order bonuses attached to buying it early. With the EA UFC 5 pre-order bonuses, the publisher is making dream fights happen — at least on the virtual ring.

EA UFC 5 Game Features:

  • Cinematic K.O. Replay: Cinematic K.O. replays showcase fight-ending finishes with intensified visuals and enhanced excitement. Presented in super slow motion with cinematic angles and lighting, the impact of fight-ending shots represents highlight reel moments recapturing the drama of a UFC fight.
  • Doctor’s Checks and Stoppages: Suffering a notable injury prompts the referee to pause the fight for a ringside doctor’s inspection. Failure to adapt and protect the injury from further damage can lead to a doctor’s stoppage, which introduces true-to-sport strategic variables for players to navigate under heightened pressure.
  • New Strikes and Hit Reactions: New Strike animations emulate heavy hitters, professional kickboxers and more – coupled with new motion variations for ground and pound elbows, spinning attacks, body punches and calf kicks. Plus, the Hit Reaction animations and physics during a frenetic fight can initiate clean connection impacts – moments players can feel with next-level immersion during gameplay.
  • Seamless Submissions: Revamped Seamless Submissions extend the existing grappling system with faster animation transitions and the removal of mini games. Grapple Assist aids beginners, while veterans can explore deeper layers. Seamless submissions provide a smoother, authentic ground game for grappling enthusiasts.
  • Fight Week and Alter Egos: UFC 5’s launch includes a revamped live service with features like Fight Week and Fight Picks tied to real-world UFC events. Alter Egos are all new versions of top fighters which capture authentic career-defining moments and provide alternative looks and associated abilities.

EA UFC 5 Pre-Order Bonuses:

Pre-ordering will net players three legendary fighters join the UFC roster to deliver the ultimate dream match. Pre-ordering the game will let players fight as:

  • Boxing legend Mike Tyson (last seen in UFC 2)
  • Boxing legend Muhammad Ali (UFC game debut)
  • MMA legend Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko

You read that right! For MMA fans, you will now be able to fight as Fedor in the UFC! While The Last Emperor never fought in the Octagon, this is your chance to have one of the best fighters of all-time compete against the UFC’s finest.

Joining Fedor is another legend in Muhammad Ali, which is also the iconic boxer’s UFC game debut. Rounding it up is the return of boxing legend Mike Tyson who was last seen in the franchise back in UFC 2, which was released in 2016. Talk about a worthwhile pre-order bonus! You’ll be able to set up quite the dream matches with these fighters, and all beautifully realized in the Frostbite Engine, which is the first time the UFC series will be on.

Outside of pre-ordering EA has not mentioned whether players can buy the fighters piecemeal. While that is certainly a plausible alternative, it’s not guaranteed.

UFC 5 officially launches on October 27 for the PS5 and Xbox Series. The Digital Deluxe version will launch on October 24, giving players three full days of early access.

Final Fantasy 14 Free-to-Play Version Ruled Out for Now

Are you holding out on buying Final Fantasy 14 in the hope that it’ll be free one day? Well, consider that dream squashed for now, as a Final Fantasy 14 free-to-play version is not going to happen at the moment, says game director Naoki Yoshida.

Speaking with Eurogamer, he made it abundantly clear that they are committed to the subscription model, but they will still keep the free trial to encourage more people to try out the MMO.

I believe the free trial will continue to be expanded, but we have no plans of making the client itself free at the moment. Since a huge amount of time and money has been invested in the expansion packages, the revenue from sales of the expansion package itself is still very important in order to continue to make expansions on this scale. We would like to constantly aim for the best on the business side as well to continue making a lot of content to be enjoyed.

Final Fantasy 14 is regarded as one of the best MMOs to date, so it comes as no surprise that some people would want the game to become free-to-play. However, as Mr. Yoshida explained, huge amount of cost is invested to make the game as good as it is.

The commitment to subscription model ensures steady revenue stream for Square Enix, and also allows them to maintain high standards that players have come to expect from the franchise.

As long as the game continues to evolve with new expansions and adventures that mirror the quality of the previous expansions, the fans will not have a problem paying for the monthly subscription.

Final Fantasy 14 free-to-play is a fever dream for now, but you never know, it may become a reality someday.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PS4, PS5, and PC. An Xbox Series X|S version of the title is in development and will launch sometime in spring 2024.

Stray Animated Movie Announced

The acclaimed cat adventure, Stray, initially debuted on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC back in July 2022, before extending its reach to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in August, 2023. Now, Annapurna has revealed its plans to bring a Stray animated movie.

This ambitious project will be led by Annapurna Animation, the studio’s specialized animated film division, with the aim of translating the game’s engaging buddy comedy narrative to the world of animation.

Co-head of Animation Robert Baird and Andrew Millstein recognize the challenge that lies ahead. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, they said:

People engage in the game for a variety of reasons, and I think for us at Annapurna, working with different creative people, it’s a puzzle. What is it about this game that is so popular? Then the question is, how do you adapt a game into longform storytelling that is incredibly respectful to the game itself and the audiences, but then also is film worthy? The process of that is always part of the challenge.

The creators exude confidence in their ability to deliver another remarkable experience for the fans, and we cannot wait to see it first-hand.

We currently do not have a release timeline for the Stray animated movie, but to make the wait a bit easier, you can just hop into Stray the game.

Stay tuned to MP1st for further updates on this upcoming project.

Phil Spencer: Starfield is Xbox’s “Most Played Next-Gen Exclusive;” Also Xbox and Bethesda’s Most Wishlisted Steam Game Ever

Bethesda’s new space epic Starfield launched in early access less than a week ago, and according to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, Starfield is already the most played next-gen exclusive that Xbox has ever released. In an interview published this morning by CNBC, the Head of Xbox was asked if he believed that Starfield would be the type of game to push more console sales and Game Pass subscriptions. He stated the following in response:

Well, we’re definitely seeing huge demand for the game. Y’know, the game has just been in preview; we’ve had more players for any next-gen exclusive than we’ve had this generation all-up…. It’s the most wishlisted game we’ve ever had between Bethesda and Xbox on Steam. Just a lot of momentum, and big game releases are a lot of fun. It’s great to be part of it.

This is a pretty staggering metric for Xbox, especially considering that they released a mainline game in the Halo series just a couple years ago. It remains to be seen how intensely Starfield boosts console sales for the company. At time of writing, the game currently sits at a peak of 263,236 active players on Steam according to SteamDB. For comparison, Halo Infinite’s all-time peak player count sits at 272,586. It might only be a matter of time before Bethesda’s latest RPG powerhouse surpasses Halo’s stats.

To see the entire Phil Spencer Starfield interview, watch the video below:

We’ve been covering all sorts of Starfield news here at MP1st. To see how companion affinity makes a pretty big difference in one of Starfield’s main missions, click here.

Starfield is out now for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.

If you’re on the fence about the game, head on over here for our review where we state, “It has everything you’d want from a Bethesda game: a deep and prosperous universe filled with endless possibilities and limitless potential. Be who you want to be, go where you want to go; your freedom is in your hands, and what you do with it is entirely up to you in Starfield.”

Respawn Next Games are “Very Exciting,” Says EA CEO Andrew Wilson

Respawn Entertainment has been on a roll lately. Apex Legends is still going strong with its latest season, Resurrection, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor released this past spring to highly favorable review scores (read our review here). According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, they might not be stopping anytime soon. Wilson spoke at a Goldman Sach’s Communacopia & Technology Conference earlier this afternoon and stated that Respawn’s next games are “very exciting.”

This came in the midst of the CEO speaking on how fortunate EA has been to have acquired Respawn as a studio:

They’re an incredible team and they’ve created incredible value for us, for our shareholders, and certainly for these global communities of players across Apex and the Jedi series.

And you should imagine that there’s some other things going on at Respawn that we’re very excited about, that we’re not going to talk about but that we’re very excited about just given the quality of that group.

Respawn has certainly garnered a lot of respect in the gaming community, especially for their efforts on the Titanfall franchise. It’s hard to imagine that whatever they make next will flop, but it’s never out of the question. What we do know is that Titanfall director Steve Fukuda is hard at work with his team making something new. Whether it contains Respawn’s signature speedy movement and traversal mechanics remains to be seen.

To see what Respawn has said about making Titanfall 3, click here. To keep up with all the latest news on Respawn’s next games, stay tuned in to us here at MP1st.

Lords of the Fallen Developers Feels Soulslike Genre Is Saturated

The launch and popularity of Demon’s Souls and then Dark Souls pioneered a new RPG genre, resulting in the emergence of several Soulslike games worldwide. The developers of Lords of the Fallen are worried that their game might get overshadowed by the overabundance of Soulslike titles.

Speaking with PCGamesN, Creative Director Cezar Virtuso and Art Director, Alexandre Chaudret expressed concerns about the genre’s saturation. However, they seemed confident in the fact that when executed properly, any game can stand out.

Yes, we are worried. But at the same time if we’re true to ourselves and dig deep into our well, no one is going to reach the depths that we have reached.

It’s worrying in the sense that we want to succeed from a business standpoint, but I think players are not at all against just having more good games. If we do a good game, people will be super happy. It’s our job to make it as good as possible and then it will stand out because they will just like what they are playing.

The developers added that these games are highly dependent on their level design and combat, and that is where they have put in the most work. They have created two completely intertwined worlds which are accessible to players at all times, and are easily traversable by using a special lantern.

The added twist to the level design will encourage players to revisit the worlds, as they are sure to miss certain aspects during their initial exploration. The combat has also been greatly improved as more weight has been added to it. The developers want players to feel like they are in this dark, hopeless, lived-in world, trying to survive.

The Soulslike genre is indeed saturated but as the developers themselves mentioned, if the game is good, people will give it a chance. Here’s hoping that Lords of the Fallen lives up to its promise when it arrives on October 13, 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC.

Lies of P Weapon Showcase Gameplay Slices Out; Details Listed

Itching for some more Souls-like action? Lies of P’s release is imminent, and the developers have given us a tasty new sneak peek into the game’s combat following the reveal of the game’s trophy list. A new Lies of P Weapon Showcase Gameplay video dropped this afternoon demonstrating the game’s “Weapon Assemble” system. Essentially, this system allows players to combine different weapon heads and handles to create unique combinations suited for all sorts of different combat styles. You can check out the gameplay video below:

Here are some of the weapons that were shown off in the video:

  • Dancer’s Curved Sword Blade + Booster Glaive Handle – This weapon combines a curved blade and a long pole handle so the player can execute all sorts of quick spinning and slashing attacks.
  • Salamander Dagger Blade + Master Chef’s Knife Handle – Combining a short dagger and a small chef’s handle allows the player to perform speedy stabbing attacks with a fiery flair.
  • Wintry Rapier’s Blade + Blind Man’s Double-Sided Spear Handle – This defensive combo has a built-in shield at the handle to give the player a protective edge while giving them a long piercing range with a rapier blade to keep enemies at bay.
  • Bone-Cutting Sawblade + Carcass Crystal Axe Handle – By throwing a sawblade on a hefty axe handle, this weapon grants players the ability to take heavy sweeping strikes and chops at the enemy.
  • Live Puppet Axe’s Blade + Acidic Great Curved Sword Handle – A giant axe-like weapon, this combo is useful for big chopping attacks that dismember the enemy in just a few blows.
  • Circular Electric Chainsaw Blade + Exploding Pickaxe Handle – Perhaps the coolest assembly in the showcase, this long-reaching slicer has a spinning blade at the end of a lengthy handle that electrifies enemies as it buzzes through them.
  • Coil Mjolnir Head + Big Pipe Wrench Handle – This weapon is effectively an oversized meat tenderizer attached to a wrench, but it allows for a heavy swing that can completely pulverize opponents.

Additionally, the gameplay video shows off a few unique weapons:

  • Proof of Humanity – What’s better than one sword? One sword that can turn into two swords as part of a flurry of attacks.
  • Holy Sword of the Ark – This is a behemoth of a greatsword that can transform to have a longer handle for quicker attacks and slightly more range.
  • Uroboros’s Eye – Last but not least, we have a large circular sawblade that spins up in order to rip through enemies at a speedy pace.

The Lies of P team also released another video in their “Hidden Journal of Krat” series today. If you’re interested in catching up on some more of the game’s cryptic lore, you can check that out below:

Lies of P releases on September 19, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To learn about the game’s pre-order bonuses and watch the trailer from last month’s Gamescom, click here.
