Assassin’s Creed Mirage Microtransaction Pack Leaked and Some Players Aren’t Happy About It

There was little doubt that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage would feature in-game purchases, much like the previous games in the series. A first Assassin’s Creed Mirage microtransaction leak just popped up, giving players an idea about the kind of packs that they can acquire to complement their adventures in Baghdad. Unsurprisingly or not, some players aren’t very happy about it.

The example unearthed shows a designated Fire Demon Pack, which you can see below. Apparently, it includes fire-themed armor for your character and a special mount, along with a weapon skin. This is surely one offer among several, but it gives us an idea on the kind of Assassin’s Creed Mirage microtransactions that are planned for release.

Naturally, discussions on the value of Assassin’s Creed Mirage microtransactions have started, with some players vocally against it, especially since it’s a full-priced game – although it’s not a first for the series – and others just claiming that these optional purchases can be safely ignored. How much they break immersion is another argument used to contest it, but is this something really valid for a single-player game? Again, it’s a matter of personal opinions.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches on October 12, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, and Ubisoft says that a full run will take players between 20 and 30 hours on average.

King of Fighters 15 Next DLC Fighters Revealed, Find Out Who’s Returning

With the release of the next King of Fighters 15 DLC fast approaching, SNK has revealed who is coming down the line. With a new trailer confirming the King of Fighters 15 next DLC fighters, the developer gave us a small taste on Najd, the one that players were already aware of, and who was introduced in the previous iteration of the franchise. Najd will be available starting August 8, 2023, but who is the next one? A completely new challenger or a familiar face?

As it turns out, it’s the latter – Duo Lon is making a much anticipated return to the series, after his first appearance 20 years ago, in The King of Fighters 2003. He was featured in a few more games, but skipped the previous chapter, returning with a bang as a King of Fighters 15 DLC fighter in Autumn 2023.

Duo Lon, also known as “The Silent Assassin,” is coming with “specific character refinements” but that’s as far as SNK goes in terms of details. Players have a few months ahead before this fighter launches, so we should learn everything about him in leading up to release. Watch his introduction – or should we say return – in the trailer below.

The King of Fighters 15 released in early 2022 to some acclaim and currently offers over 50 fighters, a few of them accessible via DLC character pack purchases. It is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

NBA 2K23 Update 1.016 Released This August 7

NBA 2K23 update 1.016 has been released on all platforms this August 7, and given the Season 8 patch was just released last month, don’t expect anything major from this title update. Read on for what’s new in the NBA 2K23 update patch notes.

NBA 2K23 Update 1.016 Patch Notes | NBA 2K23 Patch Notes for August 7:

As expected, Visual Concepts has not released any changelog for the game just yet, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t hear anything about it, as the studio has a habit of releasing patches with no official changelogs shared. We will reach out to Visual Concepts, and we hear anything back, we’ll let our readers know.

Given we’re about two months out from NBA 2K24’s release, don’t expect anything major from the game’s patches.

Embracer Group Closes Campfire Cabal Studio, More to Come After Failing to Complete $2 Billion Deal

Embracer Group’s closing of Campfire Cabal, a studio owned by THQ Nordic, was just confirmed. This may be the first of various closures as the group finds itself in a complicated position, after years of acquiring properties, developers, and publishers. These included Coffee Stain Studios, Saber Interactive, and most notably, Crystal Dynamics, Gearbox Interactive, and Deep Silver. Embracer’s restructuring process was announced in June and includes the closure of studios and termination of projects, some of them yet unannounced or with low projected returns.

The closure of Campfire Cabal was discovered when Executive Producer Bruno-Christian Belibou shared the news on LinkedIn. The decision was revealed by Embracer in June, the same time when the restructuring process was announced. According to Belibou, attempts were made to “find a new home for this team, [but] time was our biggest enemy to do so.”

Campfire Cabal was officially founded in September 2022 and included veterans having worked on Expeditions: Rome, the Hitman series, and Hunt: Showdown. The focus of the studio was on high-quality narrative-driven RPGs and the team was working on an as of yet unannounced game. Unfortunately, it will never come to fruition, at least under the company where it originated from.

Even with so many strong IPs under its wing, including Tomb Raider, Embracer Group is still likely to shut down more studios until the end of March 2024. This was in large  part due to the collapse of a “transformative” deal worth $2 billion with another industry player, who remains mysterious up to this day.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Reaches #1 Spot for Best Selling Pre-orders on PSN Following PC Launch

If you somehow missed it, Baldur’s Gate 3 is now officially available on PC! And while it’s become quite the seller, topping Steam and GOG charts, it seems that all the hype and word of mouth on how good the game is doing may be affecting sales on consoles, as the title has become the #1 best-selling pre-order on the PlayStation Network.

As spotted by Gaming Industry Analyst, Benji-Sales, Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken over as the #1 best-selling pre-order on the PlayStation Network since its launch on PC last week.

While the title may not sell as well as the PC version on consoles, it is still impressive to see what may be a sign of great success on the platform when it releases next month.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is officially available on PC, with the PS5 version dropping on September 6. The Xbox Series version, on the other hand, currently has no release date, though it is expected to launch in early 2024. Larian Studio said they’d hope to have an update on its release date before the end of this year. The reasons for the delay were previously explained as the team needs more time to work around the Xbox Series S as they could not launch on the platform without split screen due to parity clauses.

Tekken 8 Raven and All-New Fighter “Azucena” Gameplay Trailers Kick Out

As part of this weekend’s Evo 2023 event, Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed two new Tekken 8 trailers, and this not only confirms that Raven is back, but we also got to see a brand-new face entering the franchise in MMA fighter “Azucena.”

Check out the Tekken 8 Raven and Azucena gameplay trailers below.

An MMA fighter who dodges attacks with a special stance

Azucena fights with sly and unconventional movements that are based on MMA techniques. Her signature move is the Libertador, a pose that provokes the opponent. She shifts into a stance where she can no longer block but instead instinctively detects and dodges her opponent’s high and low attacks. This special stance and her movements allow her to keep opponents from gaining momentum. The Libertador pose becomes even more powerful in Heat state, where Azucena automatically launches a counterattack after dodging an attack, putting more pressure on her opponent.

Azucena’s primary aim to advertise her family’s coffee and represent the Ortiz Farm as their only daughter is highlighted by her actions throughout her fights. For example, when she K.O.’s her opponent with her Rage Art, a special cinematic scene is shown that looks like a TV commercial advertising her coffee.

A much-anticipated return to the series, where his evolved ‘ninjutsu’ establishes his enigmatic fighting style

Following his time in Tekken 6, Raven underwent intense training to achieve an even greater physique, allowing him to utilize a more advanced form of shadow cloning. By using his special stance, Soul Field, he can use a range of versatile attacks, such as mid-range surprise tactics or attacks leveraging his ability to clone and teleport. His clone attacks are enhanced when in Heat state, and Raven can launch seamless wave attacks. He is recommended for players who enjoy tricky move sets that toy with their opponents or those who enjoy controlling the pace of the battle.

Interestingly enough, the two new characters revealed today just confirmed that the roster leak that seeped out a few days ago is indeed legit!

There’s still no release date for Tekken 8, but once we know more, we’ll let our readers know.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Request Mid-Game Appearance Change, Larian Working on UI Issues

Larian Studios is off to a great start with the official launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 in August 3, 2023. After a couple of years in Early Access and very good impressions and feedback from the community, the highly anticipated RPG is already one of the most played games on Steam, breaching the top 10 of peak players with a thunderous 714,707 to settle on the second position, only beaten by the eternal Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. However, no game is perfect, as we can see from Baldur’s Gate 3 fans requesting the option for a mid-game appearance change, and also complaining about some UI issues.

Baldur’s Gate 3 UI Fix is Coming

Starting with the UI, Baldur’s Gate 3 players aren’t extremely happy about the presence of the game’s version info at the top right corner of the screen. The only way to remove the version info is by pressing F10, something that will hide the entire user interface, surely not an optimal solution. Since this is an extremely beautiful game and taking some screenshots has become a regular practice for many adventurers, having those numbers prominently displayed didn’t go down well with the community.

Thankfully, the developers are going to address the Baldur’s Gate 3 version info issue with an upcoming fix. That much was confirmed by Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios on Twitter, with a succinct but unmistakable “this is coming” as a reply to a fan request: “Please get rid of the version info [on the] top right corner.”

Baldur's Gate 3 Fans Request Mid-Game Appearance Change, Larian Working on UI Issues

Baldur’s Gate 3 Mid-Game Character Appearance Changes Requested

The other major issue arising from the community is that Baldur’s Gate 3 players can’t customize their character looks after the starting choices. Reddit is one of the usual outlets for players to reach out to developers and this is what happened with user TabiniT. Among a lot of praise for the game, they asked Larian to seriously consider the option to edit traits such as hairs, skin, face, colors, and makeup, while not touching upon race and gender as to avoid some issues with the story. They even suggest something similar to Larian’s previous game Divinity: Original Sin 2, with the Vanity Mirror, or the Barber found in Baldur’s Gate.

Naturally, many players agree with this suggestion, and even state that there is a way to respec your character by paying 100 gold to a skeleton NPC named Withers. However, this is only valid for class and ability scores, but not for appearance, so the limitation stands. Larian is certainly attentive to these claims and hopefully we’ll have some update soon.

With Baldur’s Gate 3 reaping up player numbers and awards on PC, now all that is left is for Larian to finish and launch the PS5 version, which is slated for September 6, along with the Mac release. Completionists have 200 hours of playtime in Baldur’s Gate 3, so there’s surely a lot to enjoy in the coming months.

Payday 3 Hands-On Preview – New York, City of Blinding Heists

The most unhinged crew of thugs is back in action in Payday 3, everyone’s favorite crime caper, if there’s even any actual competition worth naming. After the colossal success of the previous games, the most feared and fearless heist professionals are back for another round of chaos and crime after a short retirement. With a change of location from Washington DC to New York comes another set of challenges for Hoxton, Wolf, Chains, and Dallas, but this limited beta was limited to one heist, the aptly named “No Rest for the Wicked.” We are inclined to agree.

Four Criminals Walk into a Bank…

Judging by the action and thrills from the sole heist available in this technical beta, Payday 3 is going to be more of the same old greatness that captivated millions of players. Heists can be thrilling experiences where your team of four criminals starts with all the best intentions in the world; a quick in and out rush job without a single fly harmed. Slowly but surely, you use your best stealth skills to avoid cameras and guards, disabling the security system, and making a triumphant and discreet entrance into the vault. As they usually say, money in the bank… except this time it’s the opposite.

That’s the theory; in practice, for good and for worse, 95% of the time heists will devolve into chaotic shootouts and botched escapes, an impractical warzone where civilians shouldn’t be harmed, but a human shield is an option that sometimes you can’t refuse. Vaulting and clambering make navigation an even more intuitive affair, you feel like an actual robber with the athleticism that such a task requires.

Payday 3 Hands-On Preview

That doesn’t mean that stealth isn’t viable, as the mechanics feel cleaner and more logical than they previously did. This is the approach to be taken by players with nerves of steel, carefully checking their surroundings for something or someone that could trigger an alert, setting up distractions, and not being afraid of backtracking to a safer area to resume the mission when the dust has settled.

Shooting also has a very consistent feel to it. From the pistol to the assault rifle, the sensations hit the sweet spot, the weight for each weapon seeming just right, even if you must learn to deal with that bit of recoil before becoming an expert in accuracy. And this time, your arsenal’s proficiency level increases the more you use them, so it’s a matter of purchasing the favorite weapons for your loadout and becoming adept at using them. Weapons are locked behind your progress level, meaning that Payday 3 remains mostly faithful to previous games and other co-op shooters of the same ilk – repeat missions, earn experience and cash, and unlock the better things, including masks. It’s a grind, but one that comes with an exciting and fairly original setup.

After finding your way into the vault through the upper floor by using thermite to breach it, it’s time to deactivate the dye packs in a rush and grab the money. Since you can only carry one bag at a time, throwing them outside and making a few quick runs is the best tactic to escape with a large amount of cash. However, with snipers and all sorts of heavy hitters coming your way, decisions must be made before hopping into the van and riding into the sunset.

It’s still early days to understand how a simple mission changes in so many ways, but there’s always this level of uncertainty to each approach. The locations from which the guards appear, the way some optional objectives trigger, and so on.

How to Make Friends and Rob People

Payday 3 Hands On Preview

Graphically, Payday 3 doesn’t represent a massive leap in quality from the previous chapter, which launched a decade ago, as you surely recall. The Unreal Engine 4 still delivers and works great for what is intended, but don’t expect something mind-blowing. What you can expect is blowing stuff to smithereens, with a sizeable amount of chaos and shattered glass, enough to please the senses and get the adrenaline going, more so with the help of the hard-rocking soundtrack.

Considering the lineage of the franchise and the excitement surrounding this anticipated game, the player base is likely going to be huge, and the inclusion of cross-progression and cross-platform play is the icing on the money cake. Players will be able to matchmake across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, making sure that there’s no shortage of heist partners.

It’s too early to say that Payday 3 is going to hit the jackpot, but this small taste left us confident about its potential. The progression system is classic and bulletproof, and the mix of stealth and guns blazing gameplay hasn’t lost any of its charm, despite the heightened challenges and potentially some frustration tied to the former. Since Payday 3 will launch with eight heists, the lingering question here is how diverse and engaging they are going to be, but it’s great to have our boys out of early retirement and back to what they do best – don their masks and wreak havoc.

MP1st was given access to a preview build of Payday 3 for our hands-on session. Payday 3 launches on September 21, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

BattleBit Remastered Update 2.0.0 for Aug. 6:

  • XP Score Event added: Destroying enemy c4/mine/claymore will give a hitmarker and additional XP

Naraka: Bladepoint and NieR Crossover Brings Outfits, Check the Rest Out Here

Square Enix and NetEase have unveiled the upcoming Naraka: Bladepoint and NieR crossover, combining the popular martial arts battle royale game with the acclaimed action RPG series. The collaboration focuses on two games of the NieR series, namely NieR: Automata (2017) and NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 (2021), overlooking the original game that started it all, and the mobile exclusive NieR: Re[in]carnation. The crossover is slated to launch on August 9, 2023 and below you can find details on everything that it brings.

Update: The title update is live and here are the complete patch notes.

The Naraka: Bladepoint and NieR collaboration was introduced via the terrific and lengthy cinematic which you can watch below. There’s also a pretty in-depth look into some of the content coming with the crossover, from the gorgeous outfits to weapon skins.

The highlight for Naraka: Bladepoint players who may happen to be NieR fans as well is the introduction of outfits from the latter. These hero outfits are coming to the store, check them out here: 2B for Viper Ning, 9S for Wuchen, A2 for Justina Gu, Kainé for Tessa, and Nier for Yueshan (this one from the Spectral Silk Store). 2B and 9S are coming on August 9, while the others will release at a later date. There’s a mention to a surprise bonus outfit, but the conditions to claim remain a secret as well. NieR-themed weapon skins are also coming to the store.

Playing the new in-game event starting on August 9 may earn you the following rewards: a Replicant-Moonrise longsword legendary skin, headwear, a background, and more. Check what else is coming in the image below.

Naraka Bladepoint and NieR Crossover Details

Naraka: Bladepoint turned free-to-play in July 13, 2023, and the already healthy player base pretty much doubled from one day to the other. This collaboration is surely going to make even more players interested in giving the popular battle royale game a go – with no entry barrier and nearly 100,000 players daily, it sounds like a very interesting prospect.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Official Announcement Trailer Breaks Out of Evo 2023

Announced 12 months ago, SNK has finally revealed the new Fatal Fury game’s new title, and it’s “Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.” In addition to the title, we also get the official announcement trailer as well.

Sadly, there’s no gameplay in it, but we do see what seems to be in-game graphics.

We see Rock Howard (Geese’s son) face of against Terry Bogard, though that’s about it. Hopefully, more details about the fighting game, as well as gameplay will be revealed soon.

For those not familiar with the Fatal Fury franchise, it debuted in arcades and on the Neo Geo console back in 1994 during the fighting game boom. While it had multiple successful sequels, the last major entry was released back in 1999 with Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Once we know more about Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, we’ll be sure to let our readers know

Battlefield 2042 Season 6 Will Have “Interesting Moments” Players Won’t Expect, Says DICE

While DICE has already confirmed that we’ll be getting Season 6 of Battlefield 2042, not much is know about it other than we’ll be getting a new map. Well, if BF2042 Senior Producer Ryan McArthur’s hints about it are anything to go by, it might not be what players are expecting.

In an interview. McArthur states that BF2042 Season 6 will offer “interesting moments” that players didn’t expect, but will still feel like Battlefield.

I think Season 6 is going to be one of those really interesting moments where people are going to go, ‘well, I didn’t expect that, but that’s really Battlefield.’ And I think that’s the kind of thing we want to go after right now. How do we move forward and give our players more, but still Battlefield.”

Does this mean we’ll get more than one new map, a few new Vault Weapons and a mid-season event? Maybe, maybe not, but I gather, players wouldn’t say no to something new.

What are you hoping to see in the game’s upcoming season? Do you think DICE can offer something different from what we’ve seen in the game’s past few seasons?

Halo Infinite August Update Preview – New Map, Forge Changes, & More

343 Industries and Xbox Game Studios have released the latest Halo Infinite August update preview, detailing to some extent the new features and improvements coming to the sci-fi multiplayer shooter. With the ongoing Season 4: Infection that is said to have been greatly received, the developers are now focusing on this month’s update and hoping to please the player base with plenty of additions and especially community requests.

The highlight is the introduction of a new map, called Dredge, with inspiration from Halo: Reach’s acclaimed map Countdown. But you can also expect a lot of small upgrades including death cam improvements, and quality-of-life changes coming to Forge, the Halo Infinite’s content creation tool.

The Halo Infinite August patch is coming next week, and here is what you can expect to see when it lands.

Halo Infinite August Update Preview:

Dredge

Our newest map, Dredge, is entering Halo Infinite’s lineup next week! With inspiration directly from Halo: Reach’s popular map Countdown, this forged homage is sure to make a lasting impression. When diving into the map for the first time, players can expect a new take on the scenery and refreshed gameplay flow.

Starting next Wednesday, August 9, you’ll be able to play Dredge all day long in the Dredge 24/7 playlist!

Halo Infinite August Update

Community Requests

You asked. We answered.

In addition to a new multiplayer map, the Halo Infinite team has really been focusing their efforts on top community requests. Let’s take a look at the feedback topics they went after!

Improved Pelican Vehicle Drops

After cracking open the code for Pelican vehicle deliveries in Big Team Battle (BTB), we found a few different systems that used specific markers that worked together to deliver vehicles. While predictable, the outcome was not quite the same as the consistent, symmetrical vehicle drops that Halo
fans typically prefer.

To bring the Pelican deliveries closer in line with those expectations, we’ve improved the system to deliver the same vehicles on both sides of the map in the same wave.

Please note: due to different Pelican flight paths, there may be a difference in the exact timings of delivery.

BTB Fireteam Improvements

In another effort to improve the BTB experience, the team also tackled a common piece of community feedback around intro cameras. Now, Big Team Battle matches will prioritize placing the members of your Fireteam in your in-game squad of four players. That means during the intro camera sequences at the start of each game, the line up shot with four Spartans will also prioritize showing members of your Fireteam.

Extermination

There are not many feelings that can match the rewarding sensation of taking down an entire enemy team and hearing Jeff Steitzer say, “Extermination.”

With the introduction of the Elimination and Attrition game modes in Halo Infinite, there was a desire to help make that medal moment even more special by attributing it to Overkills that helped end a round. However, many of you expressed that this made it feel too tucked away and asked for it to return to all game modes – and that request was heard loud and clear.

We’re happy to say that with the launch of the August Update, the Extermination medal will be available in all multiplayer modes. We look forward to you all sharing clips of your favorite clean sweeps online!

Death Cam Improvements

While this topic was a bit more niche, we saw the posts and comments asking for improvements in this area and the team was happy to jump on it.

Our reasoning for going with static death cams was to help ensure a fair environment in which a team only gathered information that was earned. However, we heard the feedback around the static death cams and we went after it for this update.

Starting next week, after you’ve fallen in combat, you’ll be able to rotate your death cam to look around while spectating teammates – much like in previous titles. We expect this extra bit of freedom will encourage even better teamwork and improve communication while players wait to respawn.

Additionally, to help make sure you can spectate your teammate’s even faster, we’ve increased the speed at which you can cycle through players on your death cam. Now, with this additional layer of player agency, you should always be able to help a teammate in need.

Halo Infinite August Update Death Cam

Reactive Water Plane

Season 4 brought the first appearance of a placeable and scalable water object in Forge – the static water plane. Being a static object, it didn’t react to gameplay interactions such as footsteps, bullets, or explosions and was more applicable for map aesthetics. It was a big step forward for Forge, but we knew that having a reactive water plane would be the next big leap.

Next week, you’ll be able to take that leap with the addition of a scalable water plane in Forge. This new water object will react to players, vehicles, and projectiles just like it would on any of our dev maps!

Forge QoL Updates & Bug Fixes

In addition to the introduction of the reactive water plane, Forge will also get some extra love and polish in this update. A quality-of-life (QoL) update for our Forge menu folders means that creators will be able to expand and collapse all the folders in that section with a single action. Beyond that, the team went after numerous community-reported issues for the August Update.
