New Narrative Director for Battlefield Planning to Fix BF2042; Says Willingness There, But Not Easy

Are you disappointed with Battlefield 2042? If you think the latest Battlefield game has some issue that need to be ironed out, you’re not alone, and even the higher ups at EA think the same way as well. In case you didn’t know, before 2021 was over, EA shocked gamers by announcing that not only was Vince Zampella (Respawn Entertainment boss) the newly appointed head of the Battlefield franchise, but that Halo franchise co-creator Marcus Lehto was on-board the franchise as well, as the head of the franchise’s narrative.

Over on Twitter, Lehto is quite vocal in answering fan concerns about Battlefield 2042, and the franchise’s future as a whole.  When asked by a gamer why EA is transforming the Battlefield franchise into something it’s not, Lehto admitted that he’s figuring that out himself, and he’s then planning to “fix things.”

One of the biggest complains about Battlefield 2042 is how Specialists have taken over the traditional class-based system. When a fan tags both Zampella and Lehto into the conversation about it, Lehto confirmed that he is listening and wants to keep the feedback coming.

When another fan chimes in that he doesn’t think EA has the willingess to make BF2042 better nor if DICE has the ability do make the game better, Lehto jumps in and states that they are willing, and they have the talent, but admits that these things take time and is not an easy task.

Given how DICE has fumbled on Battlefield 2042, this is quite comforting to hear from someone high up the food chain. That said, let’s hope these words are backed by action, as the Battlefield franchise has taken its fair share of beatings the past few years — and with good reason. In case you haven’t bought the game yet or not familiar with BF2042’s issues, our review can be read here, and we admit there’s a lot of work needed to make it reach its potential.

Will Lehto and Zampella be able to turn things around for Battlefield 2042 or even the entire franchise? We here at MP1st sure hope so given the community has been quite vocal in what they want, and we still haven’t gotten it even after years of waiting.

Nvidia Announces GeForce RTX 3050, Omniverse, & More in CES Keynote

CES is once again upon PC gamers across the world, and Nvidia has blasted off with their announcements for a brand-new GeForce RTX 3050, 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti laptops, new RTX-powered laptops, Omniverse for creators, and so much more! Check out a rundown of everything announced in the Nvidia CES keynote as well as the video of the keynote itself.

The 48-minute keynote revealed the following:

GeForce RTX Powering 160+ New Laptops

The world’s top manufacturers are bringing to market more than 160 gaming and Studio laptops based on the revolutionary NVIDIA Ampere architecture, with second-generation RT Cores for ray tracing and third-generation Tensor Cores for DLSS and AI, creating the thinnest, lightest and most powerful laptops ever.

RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti Deliver New Levels of Performance

NVIDIA’s launch of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU brings the flagship 80 Ti class of GPUs to laptops for the first time. Featuring 16GB of the fastest GDDR6 memory ever shipped in a laptop, the RTX 3080 Ti delivers higher performance than the desktop NVIDIA TITAN RTX™. RTX 3080 Ti laptops start at $2,499.

The new GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is up to 70 percent faster than RTX 2070 SUPER laptops and can deliver 100 frames per second at 1440p resolution. RTX 3070 Ti laptops start at $1,499.

New NVIDIA Studio Laptops and Apps

NVIDIA is further expanding its Studio platform of hardware, software and exclusive applications that helps creators get from concept to completion faster.

This includes a major update to NVIDIA Canvas, a painting application that uses AI to generate landscape images from simple brush strokes. Built from NVIDIA’s GauGAN2® research, the app produces images that are 4x higher resolution than in the past, with five additional elements like flowers and bushes. The new Canvas app is free to download.

NVIDIA Omniverse Launches For Creators

Further enriching the NVIDIA Studio ecosystem, NVIDIA Omniverse is now available at no cost to millions of individual creators with GeForce RTX and NVIDIA RTX GPUs. NVIDIA’s real-time 3D design collaboration and virtual world simulation platform empowers artists, designers and creators to connect and collaborate in leading design applications from their RTX-powered laptop or workstation.

Introducing the New GeForce RTX 3050

NVIDIA further expanded its family of NVIDIA Ampere architecture-based GPUs with the GeForce RTX 3050.

Bringing the performance and efficiency of the architecture to more gamers than ever, the RTX 3050 is the first 50-class desktop GPU to power the latest ray-traced games at over 60 frames per second. RTX 3050 makes ray tracing, which is the new standard in gaming, more accessible than ever before.

With 75 percent of gamers still playing on GTX GPUs, the 3050, which also includes second-generation RT cores as well as third generation Tensor cores for DLSS and AI, represents a compelling upgrade opportunity to step up to RTX.

The RTX 3050, which comes with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, starts at just $249 and will be available on Jan. 27 from NVIDIA’s worldwide partners.

New NVIDIA RTX Titles, Including New Ray Tracing, DLSS and Reflex Integrations

NVIDIA announced 10 new RTX games, which use GPU-accelerated ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex gaming technologies to provide new levels of realism. The new titles include The Day Before, Escape from Tarkov and the highly anticipated Ubisoft title Rainbow Six Extraction.

NVIDIA also announced seven new integrations of NVIDIA Reflex, its low-latency gaming platform, which better connects the player to the game.

The new Reflex games include iRacing, the world’s premier online racing simulator, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Extraction, and Sony’s award-winning, fighting-based action-adventure game God of War.

A New Monitor Category – 1440p Esports

With the global growth in esports, the demand for esports displays has been doubling each year. 1080p displays have ruled esports for over a decade — as the lower resolution has enabled higher frame rates and faster refresh rates. With today’s top GeForce RTX GPUs rendering esports games well above 360 fps at 1440p, the industry is primed for a change.

NVIDIA Reflex Ecosystem Expands

Over 20 million GeForce gamers compete with Reflex each month. As the popularity of the Reflex platform grows, so does the Reflex hardware ecosystem. NVIDIA announced six new Reflex monitors and six new Reflex mice.

GeForce NOW: The Ultimate Cloud Gaming Platform for PC Gamers

More games, more devices and improved networks are being delivered to the GeForce NOW ecosystem. Today NVIDIA announced the extension of its partnership with Electronic Arts, bringing Battlefield 4 and Battlefield V to GeForce NOW, streaming today.

What do you think of these new graphics options from Nvidia, especially that cheap RTX 3050? Let us know in the comments below!

The fan remake also now has its trailer, which you can check out below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AGIFybRNKI

As you can gather from the trailer, the game uses assets from Resident Evil 2 Remake, with the Claire Redfield model lifted from the game into Code Veronica. There appears to also have been some extensive work done into making the environments, especially considering that there are only three people involved with the development.

Here are some more details on the game, as per its official page:

  • It is a remake made by a group of fans. It will be released in 3 chapters
  • The game will be totally FREE.
  • Each chapter will have an approximate duration of 4 hours.
  • Capcom has all the rights ,if they decided to cancel it, the project would be dead.
  • The game will be released in multiple languages from the day of release, among them, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and many more!
  • The language can be changed from within the game itself, no need to download other versions
  • Revisit Rockfort Island, with our new gameplay system, we have renewed the entire system that we had in the Demo to achieve more stability and get a more Resident Evil experience.
  • *New animations, so that the movements feel more natural.
  • *New Zombies system, now they will be able to bite you and will be more similar to Capcom zombies, if you have a defense knife, you will be able to get rid of them!
  • *Now you can dodge, similar to what we saw in Resident Evil 3 Remake.

In addition to these, the developers are also planning to release a Lite version to allow PC players with lower-specced systems to enjoy the game as well. You can follow the game’s development via its official Twitter page, and let us know what you think in the comments down below!

Report: Death Stranding Director’s Cut to Release on PC; Will Utilize Intel’s Upscaling Tech

While not yet officially confirmed, it appears that Death Stranding Director’s Cut is also making its way to PC sometime in the near future, as per reports from a leaked press release from Intel. The report is tied to Intel’s supposed announcement of their brand-new Arc GPUs, as the CPU giant is set to enter the race alongside Nvidia and AMD, with Death Stranding Director’s Cut on PC to utilize their newest upscaling tech called XeSS.

As first reported by VideoCardz, Intel will be announcing their Arc GPUs, and that shipment has already begun to some OEM manufacturers. In addition to this, the press release also name-dropped Death Stranding Director’s Cut, which basically confirms the release on the platform. Check out a snippet of the press release below:

“We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Intel for the Death Stranding Director’s Cut edition on PC. Death Stranding has been a hugely popular game with PC players and we’re excited to see how Intel’s new XeSS technology will enchance player experiences for the Director’s Cut,” said Neil Rally, president of 505 Games.

The press release also mentioned other publishers and developers that will soon utilize Intel’s XeSS technology on PC, namely: 505 Games, Codemasters, EXOR Studios, Fishlabs, Hashbane, IOI, Illfonic, Kojima Productions, Massive Work Studio, PUBG Studios,  Techland, Ubisoft, and Wonder People.

While known leaker Okami has corroborated the report over on Twitter, it’s still important to take this one with a grain of salt until officially confirmed, as with everything unconfirmed.

In the meantime, check out our Death Stranding archives for more information, and let us know what you think in the comments down below!

Check them all out below and see if they were a surprise, expected, or something else; either way, these are the picks from the largest PC gaming community.

The Steam Awards 2021 Winners:

Game of the Year – Resident Evil Village

Maybe it was its immersive gameplay, or its gripping story… its well-crafted characters, immaculate design, or addictive multiplayer. Whatever the reason, the winner of this year’s Game of the Year Award is an instant classic.

VR Game of the Year – Cooking Simulator VR

The VR Game of the Year isn’t merely masquerading as regular reality. This game improves on reality, taking advantage of the medium of VR and pushing the boundaries of the virtual realm.

Labor of Love – Terraria

This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the debut of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.

Better With Friends – It Takes Two

There are some games out there that just aren’t the same when you play by yourself. Maybe you need to have a friend to watch your back. Maybe you need to have a friend that you can stab in their back. Either way, fun is awaiting those who gather friends together play this game.

Outstanding Visual Style – Forza Horizon 5

Visual style doesn’t aspire to real-world graphical fidelity (though a noble goal in itself)… it describes a distinctive look and feel that suffuses an entire game.

Most Innovative Gameplay – Deathloop

The designers of this game are at the front lines of creative experimentation, bringing a fresh perspective and brain-breaking surprises. This game delighted, inspired and entertained with newness never played before.

Best Game You Suck At – Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition

This is the game that rewards persistence, and is not for the faint of heart. It’s the toughest game we’ve ever loved.

Best Soundtrack – Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

This unsung hero deserves to be recognized for its outstanding musical score. It’s the OST with the MOST!

Outstanding Story-Rich Game – Cyberpunk 2077

Some days, only a narrative-heavy game will hit the spot, and this one packs a wallop. It’s as gripping as any soap opera, and as well-tuned as a prestige-TV screenplay. Bravissimo — for making us feel things!

Sit Back and Relax – Farming Simulator 22

This game is the antidote to a busy day. It’s smooth, it’s relaxing, it lets your worries melt away. This game is your moment of zen.

Congratulations to all the winners of The Steam Awards 2021! Do you agree with this list? Let us know in the comments below, and check out the ongoing Steam Winter Sale for the best deals on the platform!

NHL 22 Team of the Year Players Unveiled by EA

To celebrate the best players of the previous calendar year, EA Sports has revealed the NHL 22 Team of the Year list! This list includes the six standouts in the rink, all the best on ice in what they do. Check out the full list below to see if your favorite players made the cut.

Here are the NHL 22 Team of the Year players for 2021:

  • Andrei Vasilevski – As the backstopper for the back to back champion Tampa Bay Lightning, Vasilevskiy won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the 2021 Playoffs. This year the goalie is still amongst the top of the league for wins and save percentage.
  • Victor Hedman – The Swedish alternate captain for the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning, Hedman is widely considered to be one of the best players in his position in the NHL, while also scoring the most goals in the 2020-2021 Playoffs for a defenceman.
  • Adam Fox – Fox of the New York Rangers won the 2020-2021 Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenceman joining Bobby Orr as the only two players in NHL history to win the award before their third NHL season.
  • Mikko Rantanen – Finnish forward and alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche, Rantanen continues his young NHL career at a stellar pace. His campaign this year showed his trustworthy efficiency averaging more than a point per game (6th overall in 2020-2021), currently leading the skilled Avalanche team as their top goal scorer so far this season.
  • Connor McDavid – Canadian center and captain of the Edmonton Oilers, McDavid is regarded as the best player in the NHL by fans and his peers, and is one of only two unanimous Hart Trophy (MVP) winners in league history joining Wayne Gretsky. McDavid also led the league in points last season winning the Art Ross Trophy as well as the Ted Lindsay Award given to the league’s most outstanding player judged by members of the NHL Players’ Association.
  • Brad Marchand – Canadian left winger and alternate captain for the Boston Bruins, Marchand was named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team for the 2021 season, marking the second time Marchand’s been selected as the league’s top left wing. Marchand led the Bruins in goals, assists and points in his 2021 season, and his 69 points trailed only Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for the most in the NHL

To celebrate making one of the most prestigious lists in the sport, every member of the Team of the Year will receive a special dynamic HUT item that matches their highest rating all year that will only be available in HUT packs or by completing sets before January 7. Each player on the list also received a trophy showcasing the accolade.

Square Enix President Shares NFT, Metaverse, & Blockchain Plans in New Year Message

With 2021 behind us, the game industry is looking to the future in 2022, even at the cost of discontent to a huge chunk of the playerbase. Nowhere is this more true than with the New Year message from the Square Enix president, which shares the publisher’s plans and hopes for NFTs, the metaverse, and blockchain technology in general. It should come as no surprise that this was somewhat negatively received by gamers on Reddit, Twitter, and more.

Here are some of the more eye-catching quotes in the message, all pertaining to NFTs and the metaverse:

The metaverse was a hot topic in 2021, inspiring a lively global conversation first about what the metaverse is and then about what sort of business opportunities it presents. Against this backdrop, Facebook changed its name in October to Meta, serving as evidence that the concept is not a mere buzzword but here to stay. The metaverse garnered so much attention that 2021 was dubbed the “Metaverse Year”

Another term that gained quick currency in 2021 was “NFT” or “non-fungible token.” The advent of NFTs using blockchain technology significantly increased the liquidity of digital goods, enabling the trading of a variety of such goods at high prices and sparking conversations the world over. I see 2021 not only as “Metaverse: Year One,” but also as “NFTs: Year One” given that it was a year in which NFTs were met with a great deal of enthusiasm by a rapidly expanding user base. However, we do observe examples here and there of overheated trading in NFT-based digital goods with somewhat speculative overtones, regardless of the observed value of the content provided. This, obviously, is not an ideal situation, but I expect to see an eventual right-sizing in digital goods deals as they become more commonplace among the general public, with the value of each available content corrected to their true estimated worth, and I look for them to become as familiar as dealings in physical goods.

What caught the public attention more than anything, though, is this paragraph:

I realize that some people who “play to have fun” and who currently form the majority of players have voiced their reservations toward these new trends, and understandably so. However, I believe that there will be a certain number of people whose motivation is to “play to contribute,” by which I mean to help make the game more exciting. Traditional gaming has offered no explicit incentive to this latter group of people, who were motivated strictly by such inconsistent personal feelings as goodwill and volunteer spirit. This fact is not unrelated to the limitations of existing UGC (user-generated content). UGC has been brought into being solely because of individuals’ desire for self-expression and not because any explicit incentive existed to reward them for their creative efforts. I see this as one reason that there haven’t been as many major game-changing content that were user generated as one would expect.

Some gamers took to Reddit to criticize this paragraph in particular, with the claim being that the Square Enix president is shaming the playerbase that, quote, “plays to have fun.”

Regarding the NFT Letter. I Encourage Everyone to Actually Read the Letter. It’s Insane
by inSquareEnix

All said and done, it is fairly obvious that Facebook’s (now called Meta) push for the metaverse is not going away anytime soon, in addition to the rise of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the blockchain technology in general. However, it would seem that there are many gamers that are still skeptical of its practical uses in the industry. Just a few weeks ago, Ubisoft was ridiculed for their own NFT implementation in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, but not enough for the publisher to pull out of the project despite the overwhelmingly negative reception.

In any case, there are some game companies who have not expressed interest in dipping their toes in the NFT and blockchain craze; Valve, in one of their latest updates to Steam, has blocked games with direct connections to cryptocurrency and NFTs, a stark contrast to Square Enix which seems to see the massive potential in all this new tech.

What are your opinions on NFTs in Square Enix games in the future? Are they overall a good evolution for gaming, or nothing more than a cashgrab for companies? Let us know in the comments down below!

Rumor: Call of Duty 2022 Modern Warfare 2 ‘Attackers vs. Defenders’ Mode Detailed

It has not been three months since the latest Call of Duty installment, Vanguard, was released, but that has not stopped leaks of information with regards to Call of Duty 2022, which is rumored ot be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and is once again being developed by Infinity Ward. While unconfirmed, this does sound like a very plausible entry, as Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2019 game did gangbusters in sales, and re-inventing Modern Warfare 2 seems like the next logical step.

As detailed in a Twitter thread, it appears that a mode called ‘Attackers vs. Defenders’ for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 have been leaked online, with many players already knowing the main inspiration for this new mode. Check out the details below via leaker RalphsValve.

The thread was created by RalphsValve, and it revealed the basic rundown of how Attackers vs. Defenders will work in Modern Warfare 2.

  • Modern Warfare II’s Multiplayer ‘Attackers v. Defenders’ Mode
  • Map – Similar in fashion to Call of Duty 4’s CQB Test. Though, much larger in scale
  • Attackers; ⁃ Each player is assigned a role per a general vote, with one nominated Team Leader. Between each passing round, all teams will be given a Debrief period – allowing for roster reform.
  • – Condition System: Minor, Critically Injured, Mortally Wounded; Attackers are privileged with ‘Tourniquets’ to aide fallen teammates – though, dependant on their condition, it’ll take time reviving them; slowing and endangering your Squad. ⁃ Time Limit to complete objective
  • Defenders; ⁃ To methodise a plan to slow down, or entirely halt the Attackers; utilising hidden locations, boobytraps and cameras ⁃ Destruction plays a major role – you’ll be able to fortify, and defend the positioned objective.
  • Objective – Reach or Defend Objectives designated area
  • Postscript: Information corroborated here is liable for future change

There you have it. If all of these sound familiar to you, then you’re not alone; many Twitter users in the thread have called the mode out for its blatant similarities Rainbow Six Siege, the popular tactical multiplayer shooter from Ubisoft. However, as is with everything unconfirmed, take this with a grain of salt until officially confirmed (both this mode, and Modern Warfare 2 being this year’s Call of Duty game).

Update: A well-known leaker by the name of TheMW2Ghost has shared his thoughts on the supposed rumor, saying:

I’ve asked a handful of sources re the “rainbow six siege”/ attack defend mode that has been reported as coming to MW II, and it has been said that it was a scrapped mode from MW19 and they haven’t heard or seen anything regarding it coming to MW II

Are you interested in seeing this mode in the next Call of Duty title? Let us know in the comments below!

According to the achievements database, these achievements are for the Xbox One version of the game, which means it is confirmed for both last and new-gen versions of Microsoft’s console. At the time of writing, there’s no concrete proof that we will see GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo Switch as well; for the younglings out there, the original GoldenEye 007 was released by Rare on the Nintendo 64 console, and it will be a shame if this game does not get ported to the current-gen console of its original platform.
