Battlefield 2042 Weekly Reset Challenge #5 (Jan 6 – Jan 13) Reward: Hostile Takeover Weapon Skin

It’s Thursday and you know what that means? Another new weekly reward to be earned in Battlefield 2042! Here’s all the requirements to unlock the Battlefield 2042 Weekly Reset Challenge #5 (Jan 6 – Jan 13) reward.

Battlefield 2042 Weekly Reset Challenge #5 (Jan 6 – Jan 13) (Preseason)

How to Unlock the Battlefield 2042 Weekly Reset Challenge #5 (Jan 6 – Jan 13) (Preseason) Reward: Hostile Takeover Skin

  • Kill 30 enemies while on foot – Reward 5000 XP
  • Kill 1 enemy with a takedown – Reward 5000 XP
  • Kill 5 enemies with a headshot – Reward 5000 XP

The weekly challenges this week is all about performing kill actions, and judging from the requirements above it shouldn’t take too long to unlock the Hostile Takeover Skin, which can be equipped to every weapon (as far as we can tell). You should be able to complete these challenges naturally (as with five headshots) with the 30 kills being the only real time consuming one.  As for the one takedown just be on the look out for enemies that are alone and can be easy to sneak up on. Any game mode should be fine as well as using any class/specialist type. Not as challenging or tedious as last week’s weekly, which required 30 revives.

Once you’ve finished all the weeklies and gotten the 15,000 XP bonus you will unlock the Hostile Takeover Skin! Not bad.

Every week on Thursday at 4:00am PT/6:00am CT/7:00am ET the Battlefield 2042 weekly challenges refresh, revealing a new weekly reward. If you are interested in staying up-to-date on when these rewards and weekly challenges drop, be sure to follow MP1st on Twitter, or keep a watchful eye on our guide page for Battlefield 2042.

Days Gone Sold 8 Million Copies in 1.5 Years; Studio Felt It Was a “Big Disappointment” From Local Management

With news breaking earlier today of Ghost of Tsushima hitting a massive eight million copies sold, Days Gone Game Director Jeff Ross took to Twitter to comment on the matter, confirming that Sony Bend had hit this milestone within two years with Days Gone, though local studio management viewed it as a disappointment.

Check out Ross’ candid statement on Twitter:

At the time I left Sony, Days Gone had been out for a year and a half (and a month), and sold over 8 million copies. It’s since gone on to sell more, and then a million+ on Steam. Local studio management always made us feel like it was a big disappointment. – Jeff Ross, Days Gone Director

A pretty large contrast between both Sucker Punch and Sony Bend, as both titles were able to hit the eight million mark within almost the same timeframe. However, it is important to note that there are a number of unknown factors to account for when determining if something is successful or not.

While Days Gone has had a recent resurgence in popularity, at the time of launch, the title had mixed critical reaction. Still, despite the critics, the Days Gone did have a more favorable reaction from the larger audience of players who played it shortly after launch. Definitely enough to have hit the eight million copies sold mark in the 1.5 year window. Other factors, however include overall budget, though that is hard to determine for Days Gone since the budget was never officially disclosed. A work history profile for a senior financial analyst at Sucker Punch lists Ghost of Tsushima’s budget at roughly $60 million.

But the biggest factor when it comes to a title’s sale is the selling price itself. While both titles launched at $60, the time it took them to have a price reduction was considerably longer. Days Gone, according to PSPrices, had dropped to $40 within the first six months via promotional sales, with it dropping to $20 almost a year (11 months) with the game constantly being on sale from its permanent $40 price point.

Ghost of Tsushima, on the other hand, took far longer to hit $40, with an even lower price for brand-new hitting a low of $30 recently (via VG247) before the drop of the Director’s Cut. In comparison between the two titles, Ghost of Tsushima was selling at a higher price for a longer period of time.

So while both titles sold eight million copies within the same timeframe, that number does not equate to the same revenue earned. This is something to keep in mind when comparing the two and determining if they had hit the same height of success.

Far Cry 6 Pagan: Control DLC Release Date Set for January 11

The newest DLC for Far Cry 6, Pagan: Control, finally has a release date, and Ubisoft has set it to launch across platforms on January 11. It will be available on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Stadia, as well as Windows PC through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store. Players can also subscribe to Ubisoft+, the publisher’s subscription service, on PC, Stadia and Amazon Luna.

In Pagan: Control, Far Cry 6’s latest DLC, players will embody Pagan Min, the iconic villain from Far Cry 4, in a brand-new experience inspired by the roguelite genre taking place in the depths of the villain’s troubled psyche. Blending intense action and storytelling, Pagan: Control will provide a unique opportunity for players to explore Pagan’s mind, learn more about his past, and face off against familiar faces as he struggles to break free from his cycle of guilt and regrets.

Last year, the game’s first DLC, Vaas: Insanity, was released. A major theme of the Season Pass DLCs is letting the player take control of the series’ major villains, with the season culminating in Joseph: Collapse, starring the titular antagonist of Far Cry 5. Joseph: Collapse is releasing sometime later this year.

Check out our review of Far Cry 6 here, where our own AJ wrote, “While Far Cry 6 is not the huge revamp many have been asking for, it is a great time nonetheless. The extensive weapon customization, and new additions like the Supremo weapons and Amigos add even more flexibility to the tried and true formula. The story starts off excellent, and remains solid throughout, although it does start to overstay its welcome towards the latter half of the game. There’s a huge cast of characters, highlighted by yet another iconic Far Cry villain in Anton Castillo.  It’s not going to win over any Far Cry naysayers, but fans of the series should thoroughly enjoy what Ubisoft have done here. It is, in my opinion, the best Far Cry title since 2012’s Far Cry 3.

Once the title update for the DLC is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. If Ubisoft follows the usual trend for patches, expect the title update to drop on January 10.

Ubisoft+ Is Headed to Xbox; Rainbow Six Extraction Will Be Part of Xbox Game Pass

Ubisoft has confirmed that its upcoming title, Rainbow Six Extraction, is headed to Xbox Game Pass, and that its Ubisoft+ service is also making its way to the Xbox platform! This is big and exciting news to players who are subscribed to one of the biggest gaming platforms on consoles and PC, with Ubisoft+ offering tons of games for players to enjoy.

As part of the announcement, Ubisoft+ brings players more than 100 Ubisoft games — including the latest releases, DLC and classic games — and rewards which include customization items, boosters and other in-game perks. Ubisoft+ is currently available on PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna, and soon will be available on Xbox. Rainbow Six Extraction will also be releasing as a Day One title for Xbox Game Pass on both Xbox consoles and PC.

Chris Early, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development at Ubisoft, had this to say:

Rainbow Six Extraction 4K DLSS Trailer Revealed for CES 2022

Ubisoft is coming out with another entry in the Rainbow Six series later this month, and for CES 2022 the publisher has teamed up with Nvidia to showcase the Rainbow Six Extraction 4K DLSS trailer, showcasing a comparison of the game with Nvidia upscaling technology implemented. Check out the trailer below to see just how different the game is in 4K DLSS.

As noted in the Rainbow Six Extraction 4K DLSS trailer, the point of DLSS is to upscale lower resolutions in order to gain massive increase in frames, without the toll that comes with native 4K. Overall, it would appear that using 4K DLSS in Rainbow Six Extraction results in nearly 100 percent more frames thanks to Nvidia’s upscaling technology.

In case you missed it, Nvidia also ran a 4K RTX gameplay trailer for The Day Before, showing off the game’s impressive visuals alongside the reveal of its minimum and recommended specs on PC. If you’re looking forward to the open-world MMO zombie shooter, check it out.

Rainbow Six Extraction is releasing on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One consoles, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia in January 20, 2022.

Warzone Cheats Provider EngineOwning Sued by Activision

In a bid to curb the increasing tides of cheating in their popular battle royale title, Activision has sued the Call of Duty Warzone cheats provider EngineOwning, which is one of the largest cheat providers for the game. The lawsuit is just another step taken by the publisher in order to combat cheating in the game; a few weeks ago, Activision rolled out the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat program for the game, which promises to be their best yet.

The lawsuit was spotted via court documents filed in the state of California by Activision lawyers. The preliminary statement reads:

By this lawsuit, Activision seeks to put a stop to unlawful conduct by an organization that is distributing and selling for profit numerouse malicious software products designed to enable members of the public to gain unfair advantages (i.e., to cheat) in the COD games. These ongoing activities damage Activision’s games, its overall business, and the experience of the COD player community.

EO (Engine Owning) is engaged in the development, sale, distribution, marketing, and exploitation of a portfolio of malicious cheats and hacks for popular online multiplayer games, most prominently the COD games.

EngineOwning and its proprietors have yet to respond to the lawsuit put forward by Activision.

As a reminder, we at MP1st do not condone cheating of any sorts in any online multiplayer games. We have named the Warzone cheat provider here in the context of the lawsuit, but we will not provide links to their site.

Are you still encountering cheaters in Warzone? Let us know in the comments down below!

PlayStation Discord Integration Spotted on Backend

It seems that the formerly announced PlayStation Discord integration is coming very soon, as proof of it has been spotted on the actual Discord backend itself. In addition to this, a Discord user has spotted the icon itself now in the integration options, which points to its release in the near future.

As first reported by a user on Reddit, a Discord icon now appears in the integration bar alongside others like Battle.net, Facebook, Reddit, Spotify, Steam, Twitch, Twitter, Xbox, and YouTube. Check out the thread and the screenshot below.

You will soon be able to connect your Playstation Network account to your Discord profile!
byu/jankesjt indiscordapp

playstation discord

Additional evidence of this comes from a comment in another thread, as the user states:

Discord being an Electron/web app also makes it trivially easy to datamine, and someone has a GitHub repo setup to track changes made to the JavaScript files in the client. https://github.com/Discord-Datamining/Discord-Datamining

Here’s the specific commit in the repo that includes the PlayStation account link feature: https://github.com/Discord-Datamining/Discord-Datamining/commit/a73a76ede1c6d19c82fdf4caf78aa0dd8bfa10ac

There you have it. It appears that PlayStation players will soon be able to utilize Discord directly for communicating with their group or party members thanks to this direct integration. While we know this integeration is incoming, Sony has not disclosed any time frame for this, but given this backend change, we’re hoping an announcement is incoming soon.

Update: Our contributor AJ (Twitter link) has also added the following findings:

Sony has been quiet ever since announcing their partnership with Discord in May of 2020, when they shared plans to “bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together” starting in early 2022. With the New Year behind us, it looks like they’ve made some progress on this front.

A now locked Reddit thread posted on December 16th, 2021 shares a screenshot of the “Connections” section of the Discord app, now with a a Playstation Network icon available. Discord has various other apps it can connect to, such as Steam and Spotify, in order to do things like share activity on your Discord profile, or invite friends to games directly through the app.

Unfortunately, the Playstation icon doesn’t appear to be in the final Discord client yet. Later on, the user shares that this screenshot came as a result of unused files found in the beta version of Discord. Regardless, this shows that the option to link your Discord and Playstation accounts could be on the way sooner than we think.

Speaking to someone with knowledge of the subject, it appears that the Playstation Network is indeed mentioned in the beta Discord client, right alongside Twitch and Steam.

Further digging confirms that you’ll be able to display PlayStation games you’re playing on your Discord status.

This ability to display play activity on your Discord profile was an expected one, however. Xbox has had a similar option since 2018. What Playstation players really seem to want to know is, will they be able to communicate with their PC and mobile friends directly through their console?

We’ll have to wait for official news from Sony on that front. It appears the ability to connect via the internet is blocked to the public right now, so there’s no way to tell if this feature is coming. We were unable to find any mentions of it in code.

That certainly doesn’t mean it’s not coming. From the sounds of it, Sony plans to make this a robust feature, and specifically mention the ability to “communicate more easily while playing games together.” It looks like that option could be on the way soon.

Ghost of Tsushima Hits More Than 8 Million Sales Worldwide

The critically acclaimed action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima has hit more than 8 million sales worldwide, as reported by developer Sucker Punch Productions. The game was first released back in July 17, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, with a Director’s Cut now available for the former and the PlayStation 5 as of August 20, 2021. Check out the announcement for the sales milestone hit by Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch below.

As per the official Sucker Punch Twitter account:

We’re thrilled and amazed that #GhostOfTsushima has officially sold more than 8 million copies!

Thank you so much to everyone who has played since launch! We are so incredibly appreciative and grateful for the support!

The tweet was also accompanied by a quite goofy gif of Jin celebrating the sales.

Check out our review of Ghost of Tsushima here, where our editor Alex wrote, “If Ghost of Tsushima is the swan song game for the PS4, then it ends with a whirlwind of slashes, and it gives Sucker Punch the franchise it’s aiming for that stands toe to toe with the likes of God of War, Uncharted, and the rest of Sony’s impressive first-party studio games lineup. Rejoice, samurai warriors! Ghost of Tsushima lives up to the hype and even surpasses it. This is one Ghost you’ll want to see more of soon.”

PlayStation VR2 Launch Targeted for End of 2022; Mix of AAA & Social Games Planned

With yesterday’s surprise showing of the next-generation PlayStation VR headset dubbed the PlayStation VR2, Sony featured the tech specs of the device, as well as some of the key features players should expect from it once it’s available. However, two of the most important things that weren’t discussed, are its price point, and when people can actually buy it.

Over on Twitter, video game industry analyst Daniel Ahmad has shared more details from CES 2022. For one thing, Sony is targeting PlayStation VR2 to be released sometime near the “end of 2022,” provided supply chain issues do not arise and push it to 2023.

Ahmad also shared that Sony is aiming for a mix of AAA games + social gaming experiences as the key for the PSVR2’s success.

Regarding the first PSVR, it has sold through over six million units with an attach rate of of 5%, which is not bad at all.

If the PlayStation VR2 is indeed set for release later this year, that means we should get a price confirmation before it. Hopefully, that means before E3 or around it. Of course, given how hard it is to snag a PS5 still, I wouldn’t be surprised if the PSVR2 launch is once again done in waves and in a per-region basis.

Do you believe we’ll see the PSVR2 launch later this year? Or will it be for select territories only?

Neil Druckmann Confirms Naughty Dog Is Working on “Multiple Game Projects”

While Naughty Dog hasn’t announced any new game in development, the studio’s games are still in the spotlight, as we’re getting not only an Uncharted movie, but The Last of Us is getting the TV series treatment as well. For those looking forward to actual games from the studio, it seems we’ll soon be getting a lot of news on that front as well.

During the CES 2022 presentation, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann confirmed that the studio is working on “multiple game projects.” While talking about the Uncharted movie, and HBO’s The Last of Us show, Druckmann adds at the end, “And we’re dying to share with you the multiple game projects we have in the works at Naughty Dog.”

Update: You can watch Druckmann’s bit in the CES 2022 show at around the 16:00 mark in this video (Video replaced with official one, as Sony copyright claimed the previous YouTube video).

We’re assuming one of the games Druckmann is talking about is The Last of Us 2 multiplayer component that the studio has talked about a bit back in September 2021. As for the other one, it’s anyone’s guess. Is it a new entry in the Uncharted franchise? Perhaps The Last of Us 3? Maybe a new IP entirely? Whatever it is, given the studio’s history of releasing amazing games, you can color us excited.

What are you hoping to see from Naughty Dog in terms of new game projects? Sound off and let us know down in the comments below.

Thanks, Okami Games!

Sony Announces PlayStation VR2 as Official Name of Next-Gen VR, Horizon VR Announced

Taking to the stage during CES 2022, Sony has officially announced the next-generation of PlayStation VR will be called “PlayStation VR2,” as well as its controller dubbed PlayStation VR Sense. In addition to that, a new game in the Horizon franchise has been announced as well just for VR called “Horizon Call of the Mountain.”

While no release date or price point was given to the hardware, Sony’s own Jim Ryan confirmed that the next generation of PSVR would be simply called “PlayStation VR2” with the controllers being called “PlayStation VR Sense.” As the name suggests, the controllers will have a number of feedback features as seen in the DualSense controller. The headset itself is getting a beefy update as well, as it will fully support 4K resolution with HDR.

Here’s the highlights of the new set:

  • New sensory feature
  • Enhanced control tracking
  • Upgraded visual fidelity
  • 4K HDR
  • Foveated rendering
  • Expanded field of view
  • Responsive feedback
  • Eyetracking

Updated: New details from the PlayStation Blog

  • Visual Fidelity: For a high-fidelity visual experience, PS VR2 offers 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, and foveated rendering. With an OLED display, players can expect a display resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and smooth frame rates of 90/120Hz.
  • Headset-based Controller Tracking: With inside-out tracking, PS VR2 tracks you and your controller through integrated cameras embedded in the VR headset. Your movements and the direction you look at are reflected in-game without the need for an external camera.
  • New Sensory Features: PS VR2 Sense Technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, 3D Audio, and the innovative PS VR2 Sense controller to create an incredibly deep feeling of immersion. Headset feedback is a new sensory feature that amplifies the sensations of in-game actions from the player. It’s created by a single built-in motor with vibrations that add an intelligent tactile element, bringing players closer to the gameplay experience. For example, gamers can feel a character’s elevated pulse during tense moments, the rush of objects passing close to the character’s head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character speeds forward. Additionally, PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech makes sounds in the player’s surroundings come alive, adding to this new level of immersion.
  • Eye Tracking: With eye tracking, PS VR2 detects the motion of your eyes, so a simple look in a specific direction can create an additional input for the game character. This allows players to interact more intuitively in new and lifelike ways, allowing for a heightened emotional response and enhanced expression that provide a new level of realism in gaming.

However, the biggest surprise is that Guerilla Games is in collaboration with Firesprite studio to bring a whole new experience in the Horizon franchise as the series is taking a jump to VR with it’s newly announced entry Horizon Call of the Mountain. A short teaser trailer was shown off during the CES conference, though no release date was provided. Screenshots can be found below (courtesy of Wario64,) with a trailer too.

Horizon Call of the Mountain Teaser Trailer

Hopefully, we’ll get a release date and price point announcement soon, since it’s rumored that the headset will be released sometime this year.

Capcom Announces Content Creator Program Called ‘Capcom Creators’

In a bid to leverage their IPs across the massively popular content creation scene, Capcom has announced a dedicated content creator program called ‘Capcom Creators,’ with the program spanning videos, livestreams, fan art, cosplay, and more. Capcom Creators will be free to utilize the publisher’s biggest IPs, including Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter in their content of choice, with the company releasing details for those interested.

In a press release sent out, Capcom gives a rundown on the Capcom Creators program for those interested in signing up:

Capcom Creators members will be equipped with resources to help make content for Capcom’s deep library of award-winning and best-selling titles. Creators will have access to tools such as regular newsletters highlighting the latest games and opportunities, as well as a dedicated private Discord server to connect with program managers and fellow creators. To help expand their online followings, members may have the benefit of seeing their work recognized and amplified on Capcom’s social and video channels.

In addition to this, the publisher also stated that there will be several incentives for content creators including release codes for the latest Capcom titles. The most notable one, at least in the near future, is Monster Hunter Rise, which is releasing on PC this January 12.

For those looking to apply for the program, you can sign up here for more details. Let us know what you think in the comments down below, and don’t forget to check out our complete Capcom archives for more!

Blade-Flourish Moon
When the active character’s Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attacks hit opponents multiple times within 2s, that character’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG is increased by 5% for 8s. Max 15 stacks. This effect can be triggered once every 0.1s and will be cleared if the character goes down or leaves the field.
Phase II:
Blooming Moon
When the active character hits opponents with attacks that are considered Normal Attack DMG, there is a 50% chance of unleashing a shockwave at the hit opponent’s position, dealing AoE True DMG. One shockwave can be released in this way every 0.3s.
Phase III:
Awakening Moon
When the active character’s Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attacks hit opponents multiple times within 2s, the character gains a stack of Emergence for 8s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.1s. Emergence will be cleared when the character goes down or leaves the field. When the character gains 15 Emergence stacks, the stacks will be cleared and a shockwave will be unleashed that deals True DMG to nearby opponents.
