College Football 25 Update 1.023 Released as Part of Server Downtime

EA Sports has rolled out College Football 25 update 1.023, and this should address gameplay issues that have been plaguing the game since the last patch was released a month ago.

Alongside the patch, the servers have also been taken down for  a few hours, so if you can’t login, it’s not an issue, as it should be back up once maintenance is finished. Downtime began at 6 am ET/3 am PT and should last for at least 3-4 hours if past maintenance sessions are anything to go by.

College Football 25 Gets New Update 1.023 on All Platforms

College Football 25 Update 1.017

EA has released the patch notes, and it’s a short one that focuses on a specific change:

  • Today’s update features a boost to option based offenses with tuning to the pitch mechanic. This means you will have more consistent success when running option pitch plays in #CFB25

Outside of that official changelog, Reddit user claims the following items have been added:

The community noted the following items have been adjusted/fixed:

Now able to scroll through recruits on your board using the right stick on the controller (via Working-Deer-5417)

Removed ability to edit fake teambuilder players in Dynasty. (via )

As expected, EA hasn’t released the patch notes just yet, which is par for the course for the developers. While we’re waiting on that, here are some of the known issues players are still dealing with:

  • Stock Pro Style playbook still doesn’t work
  • Custom Scheduling not working as intended

We’ll add more to it as we find other bugs that have yet to be resolved. Once the patch notes are out, we’ll update the article to reflect the changes made, so sit tight.

If you’re curious what we think of the game, check out our review when the game launched even without the countless updates applied yet.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth New Update 1.003 Out Now on PC

[summaraize]

Square Enix has released a minor patch for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC, which should show up as version 1.003 to players. This is aimed to fix technical issues, and even lower the disk size for Steam Deck players.

Don’t expect any new content from any updates released, as Square Enix will surely announce it if one is planned. And also, the developers are hard at work on Chapter 3 of the remake trilogy.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC Now Has a Smaller File Size for Steam Deck Gamers

Clocking in at 18Gb, players might see that it’s around 270GB, though it’s not really eating up your harddrive that much, but rather, its how Steam unpacks game updates. Rest assured, the file download is just 18GB in size (which is still a lot for something this minor).

Here’s what’s new per Square Enix:

  • Improved overall game stability, including several bug fixes.
  • Fixed an issue where the application sometimes crashes while playing the game on a PC using certain AMD Radeon™ products.
  • Reduced the package size when downloading on Steam Deck.

Yep, that’s about it for this update. We’re not expecting a lot of updates for the game outside of a few technical ones released from time to time.

Go read our review of the PC version where we state, “While there is not much reason to get the game on PC already if you already played through it fully on PlayStation 5, adding in the ability to play portably on the Steam Deck, as well as the fact that the the PC port is still every bit as impressive as the game was when it released prior and is finally available for those that were not able to play prior, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for PC is not one to overlook.”

  • Fixed an issue where swapping to your Specialization would immediately switch back to your Weapon
  • Fixed an issue where ADS would stop working

Throne and Liberty Update 31.101.664 Out for Wilds of Talandre Patch

[summaraize]

A big new patch called ‘Wilds of Talandre’ has been released for Throne and Liberty update 31.101.664. A new zone called Talandre is available for players to explore, and some new dungeons are included too. Loads of gameplay improvements have also been made.

Check out the official patch notes below.

Throne and Liberty Update 31.101.664 Adds ‘Wilds of Talandre’ Content

New Zone: Talandre

Located in the central region of Solisium, Talandre has long been an area inhospitable to human settlement due to its rugged terrain and unusually rampant demonic beasts.

The most elevated area became home to refugees fleeing the oppression of the Crimson Family, founding the village of Herba. Much of the nature remains untouched by human hands due to the harsh environment and deadly monsters.

Level Progression Updates

Discover the next chapter in the story of THRONE AND LIBERTY, level up your character to 55, increase your lifestyle content levels to 25, and more.

Along the way, you’ll encounter new, diverse events, unexplored field dungeons such as the Temple of Truth, and ferocious new field bosses. Following the launch of Talandre, frequent milestones will introduce new zone events, arch bosses, field dungeons, and other surprises.

Solo Dungeons

Want to make an even bigger impact in your next group or guild activity?

Triumph over new solo dungeons like the Hall of Illusion for an easier transition into more difficult content. You’ll also earn rewards for overcoming foes, obstacles, and unique mechanics. Kailos, the Master of the Hall of Illusion sought to make the halls not just a gallery of masterpieces, but a living, breathing world unto itself. Bearing witness to adventurers overcoming trials and growing from their journeys inside the paintings became his greatest joy and purpose.

Now you grasp one of Kailos’ invitations. The halls’ doors open before you, revealing an endless maze of corridors where countless paintings line the walls, each concealing worlds of infinite adventure within. What sagas will you inscribe amid these mystical halls?

3-Star Dungeons

For those that have mastered 2-Star Dungeons, we’re excited to see more experienced adventurers venture into our greatest challenge yet, 3-Star Dungeons.

3-Star Dungeons unlock when you hit level 55 and require a minimum combat power of 3500. Team up with your strongest allies to overcome the following 3-Star Dungeons. Here is a sample of the first few you’ll encounter:

  • Rancorwood

    • According to human legends, an ogre who had lost everything to humans established his own kingdom deep within the forest. Gifted with enhanced intelligence and physique by an elf from the past, he rallied his kin and declared war on humankind. As those who ventured into the woods perished, a raid group was assembled to slay King Khanzaizin, the ogre warlord, but they too were found as mangled corpses.

  • Hall of Tragedy

    • The Bercant Estate has a hidden secret space. This space was created by the architect who designed the mansion using magic, and later additions like a prison, indoor garden, and audience chamber were built there according to the needs of successive lords. Deep within the Halls of Tragedy, Grand Spineflower Commander Limuny Bercant and his mighty warriors became monstrosities due to the curse of Florification.

  • Chapel of Madness

    • Skultus, the Grand Elder of the Sylavean Order, secretly conducted a horrific demon summoning ritual disguised as a worship ceremony after hypnotizing his loyal followers. Skultus sacrificed them to summon the dreadful demon Grayeye, but unable to control its power, he ended up sealing it underground. Drawing strength from human fears, Grayeye is manipulating its underlings to continuously offer human sacrifices in order to break the seal.

Desirable drops, like powerful Tier 2 Gear Sets, Weapon Mastery Seals, Amitoi, Abyssal Contract Token Points, and crafting materials await. You’ll also receive rewards that can be used to craft items that drop Dimensional Soul Shards in each 3-Star Dungeon.

Weapon Mastery Revamp

Our weapon mastery revamp will introduce another layer of personalization as you progress your favorite weapons.

Select nodes, alter or empower skills through key nodes, and experiment with different weapons and builds to unlock special skills across your entire arsenal. Your current weapon mastery level will be converted into experience points in the new system. Leveling Up Weapon Mastery

  • Weapon mastery is now gained independent of which weapon you have equipped. Instead, you’ll have the option in the UI to select which weapon will receive the Weapon Mastery points. You can obtain mastery experience through Weapon Mastery Seals acquired from various content and invest that experience freely to level up weapons of your choice.

  • Weapon mastery can grow up to a maximum level of 200 per weapon.

Integrated Mastery Level

  • Your integrated mastery level is the sum of all your weapon mastery levels. Unlocking integrated mastery skill slots depends on your integrated level, allowing more skills to be activated. Based on your integrated mastery level, you can activate up to 4 integrated mastery skills. These skills apply regardless of your equipped weapon.

Nodes

  • There is a cost for initially unlocking each node. There are four types of nodes: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Heroic. Nodes can be leveled up to a maximum of 10.

  • All nodes can be activated by spending mastery points, Sollant, and varying types of Precious Ore. With the proper requirements, Uncommon Nodes can be activated and then upgraded into Rare Nodes, and finally Heroic Nodes.

  • You’ll need at least 1 Attack, Support, Defense, or Tactics effect and 80 mastery points to activate 1 Heroic node, or 120 points to activate 2 Heroic Nodes. A maximum of 2 Heroic Nodes can be used at once for more desirable passive benefits.

Achievement Effects

  • Achievement effects are activated in each Offensive, Support, Defensive, and Tactical area by spending at least 20 mastery points in that area’s grade. The area where you spent the most mastery points is prioritized for activation. For each weapon, up to 2 achievement effects per Common, Uncommon, and Rare grade can be activated, for a total of 6 achievement effects.

Changes to Weapon Mastery Related Items

  • Training Dew

    • The Training Dew item has been changed to “Weapon Mastery Seal”. It is used immediately upon acquisition and grants mastery experience to the weapon of your choice through the Weapon Mastery – Level Up UI. Existing Training Dew can still be consumed with the new system, but can no longer be acquired. You cannot acquire items exceeding the maximum mastery experience.

Nebula Island

Nebula Island, releasing after maintenance on March 13, is a new interserver activity accessible to level 55 players through the Secret Dungeons’ Lawless Wilds tab.

Players can spend up to 5 hours per week there, with additional time available through Nebula Charge Stones. The island consists of a central village and six distinct regions, including one peaceful zone and four war zones where PvP is always enabled.

Players can access various hunting grounds through portals in the central village and collect Lesser and Greater Nebula Stones to exchange for items. The island features hourly events and periodic field boss battles with limited participation capacity. A new exclusive accessory system called Artifacts has also been introduced specifically for Nebula Island content.

New Artifact System

Redefine your playstyle through unique skills with Artifact item sets.

Artifacts can be obtained from Nebula island and Abyss Dungeons in Talandre. The system consists of six parts: 4 Talistones, a Solarstone, and a Lunarstone, each with unique stats and effects. There are 14 different Artifact sets across three grades (2 Common, 4 Uncommon, and 8 Rare), with some stats being randomly determined upon acquisition.

Players can trigger set bonuses by equipping 2, 4, or 6 matching pieces from the same set. The Solarstone provides an Active Skill while the Lunarstone grants a Passive Skill when equipped.

New Lifestyle Content

Enjoy the cozier aspects of Talandre with 24 new fish, 4 new fishing rods, and a variety of new collectibles, plus 10 new cooking recipes and forage items.

Players will also have another reason to gather ingredients now that the 5 types of Elixir items (Excellent Attack/Defense Elixirs, Rare Attack/Defense/Purification Elixirs) can be cooked.

While you’re exploring the zone for collectibles like the Cornelian Cherry Tree, your favorite Amitoi can set forth on Talandre Expeditions. They might even bring back new rewards.

Tier 2 Weapons

Master powerful Tier 2 Weapons with unique effects to bolster your abilities in any combat scenario.

Players can expect new Tier 2 weapons and Armor to be available over time. The items will drop from the new field bosses, abyss dungeons, and co-op dungeons. Players can also craft certain gear with tokens received from various encounters

Mandragora: Whispers of Witch Tree Hands-On Preview – A Promising Tale

[summaraize]

Mandragora: Whispers of Witch Tree is an upcoming action-RPG that immerses players in a dark, enchanting world filled with mystical creatures and ancient magic. Combining exploration, combat, and a gripping narrative, the game promises an eerie and atmospheric experience as players face off against challenging monsters while uncovering the secrets behind a world in ruins.

Ahead of its April release, we got a chance to go hands-on with it to see just what this souls-like inspired experience has to offer, and while we only got a small sample, things are looking pretty promising.

A Beautiful 2.5D Souls-Like RPG

Mandragora: Whispers of Witch Tree is a uniquely artistic take on RPGs, presented through a 2.5D side-scrolling perspective. Developed by Primal Game Studio, an indie team based in Budapest, Hungary, this game takes place in Faelduum, a once beautiful world now on the brink of ruin. Devastation stems from corrupt leaders and an unknown force; only you, the player, can stop it from destroying everything. Players can explore various locales, including ruined castles, gloomy swamps, and fishing villages.

As an RPG, Mandragora offers extensive character customization. The team didn’t hold back, providing various options to tailor characters to individual tastes. In a preview build, I explored three out of six available classes: Vanguard, a physical fighter; Spellbinder, wielding chaotic magical energies; and Nightshade, an assassin type specializing in poison and daggers. Classes I didn’t try include Flameweaver, a master of fire; Wildwarden, connected to nature; and Vindicator, commanding celestial energy.

Six talent trees are available—one for each class—but Mandragora allows mixing and matching talents. With 96 passive skills and over 200 active skill upgrades, possibilities are vast. Gameplay remains fluid, with a quick guide at the beginning to ease players into mechanics. A nice feature is that mistakes like defeat aren’t harshly punished. While there isn’t a difficulty option, I feel none is needed after playing the preview build.

The narrative, crafted by Brian Mitsoda (known for his work on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines), features alternate endings defined by player choices throughout the journey. The game includes 10 main quests, 35 optional quests, and 15 bounty quests. Players take on the role of an Inquisitor, elite agents of the King-Priest, in a once-peaceful Crimson City. After an event goes awry during a spectacle, players face serious consequences and must reclaim their world, ridding it of rising darkness. Along the way, players battle enemies and assist allies.

Over 350 wearable items, consumables, and crafted ingredients are available, as well as 114 weapons and off-hand items. Weapon types include one-handed swords, two-handed greatswords, one-handed maces, two-handed hammers, dual-wield daggers, shields, and magical relics for spellcasting.

In the full game, players will face 15 boss fights, 19 mini-bosses, and 72 basic enemies. Combat resembles Soulslike games, with dodge rolling, parrying, and loot. A status effect system and death essence mechanic are also present. Exploration is vast, with 11 maps and 75 locations to discover. Plenty of loot awaits as players uncover secrets.

The official soundtrack, composed by Christos Antoniou and performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague, enhances the experience. Full voiceovers and text will be available in English, with text translations in Hungarian, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. English voiceovers feature 175 characters voiced by 21 professional actors, including Anthony Howell (Elden Ring), Laila Berzins (Hades), Tracy Wiles (Baldur’s Gate III), and Stewart Scudamore (Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown).

Mandragora: Whispers of Witch Tree offers a fluid RPG experience with just enough Soul-like challenges to keep things engaging without overwhelming players. Based o what we’ve played so far, this is one action-RPG that you might want to keep in your radar.

It arrives on April 17 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Black Panther and Captain America Game “Marvel 1943” Releasing This Year According to Voice Actor

[summaraize]

Announced 12 months ago, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a game featuring Black Panther and Captain America as the protagonists, might be available sooner than we think.

While there’s no actual gameplay footage of it yet, developer Skydance New Media’s project might be further along than we initially thought.

Marvel 1943 Takes Aim for Release in 2025

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

Talking to The Direct, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra voice actor Khary Payton, who plays Black Panther in the game, confirmed they are still working on the game, though he thinks it will be ready around Christmas.

“We’re still working. We’re planning on 2025… We’re thinking like a Christmas situation. But I’m so excited,” Payton said.

If true, then this is a logical release window for most AAA games, as this targets the holiday buying season. Of course, it will need to navigate around Grand Theft Auto 6, lest it gets swallowed up by Rockstar’s game that’s said to be targeting a Fall 2025 release.

There is a chance Payton might have gotten the release window wrong, and we’ve contacted Skydance to shed some light on the release window. We’ll update the article with the information if we get a response.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an upcoming action game by Skydance New Media and published by Plaion. The game’s story is inspired by the 2010 Marvel Comics Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers. It’s set in Occupied Paris during World War 2 and features Steve Rogers forming an alliance with Black Panther, as they prevent terrorist organization Hydra from seizing power.

The Last of Us 3 Might Not Happen; Naughty Dog Boss Says “This Could Be It”

[summaraize]

About a year ago, Naughty Dog seemingly confirmed The Last of Us Part 3 when boss Neil Druckmann said they already had a concept in mind.

If you’re looking forward to that, well, you’ll be waiting for quite some time, as it seems the third game in The Last of Us franchise might not happen at all.

Neil Druckmann Isn’t Sure The Last of Us Part 3 Will Happen

the last of us 2 bloodborne

Speaking to Variety, Neil Druckmann addressed The Last of Us 3 questions head-on, stating, “I was waiting for this question,” when asked about the third game. Druckmann added, “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

It might not confirm that it won’t happen, but it does paint a bleak future for the franchise. That said, Druckmann and Co. did finish the first somewhat in Part 2, so it does make sense for them to move on, I guess.

If the studio plans to make The Last of Us 3, don’t expect it anytime soon. Currently, the studio is working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which doesn’t have a release date yet. Chances are, it’ll be released in 2026 at the earliest. Given how long Naughty Dog takes to develop their games, the chances of The Last of Us Part 3 appearing on PS5 are also very slim. I’d peg it as a game for the PS6 if it ever gets released.

Would you want to see The Last of Us 3? Or should Naughty Dog leave the franchise as is since they wrapped up Part 2’s story somewhat?

For your next dose of the franchise, HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 premieres in April.

Battlefield Labs RSVP Emails Sent Out, First Playtest Starts This Week

[summaraize]

Last month, EA announced Battlefield Labs, a new testing program for selected players where they can offer direct feedback to the developers for the new and still-untitled Battlefield game.

If you signed up, just like a million other players did, you might to check your emails, as EA has sent out the RSVP emails for the first playtest set to go live this week!

Battlefield Labs Kicks Off But Don’t Expect Anything Official to Be Revealed

We were given a tip about the email pictured above, which mentions that the person selected must RSVP by 12 a.m. today, March 5. In addition, InsiderGaming reports that the first playtest will start on March 7 and will test “concepts and mechanics.”

As one might expect, streaming, recording and discussing the playtest publicly is not allowed, and the session, which is said to last two hours will be in a “closed test environment.” Having said that, given how these things work, don’t be surprised to see a thing or two leak.

If you weren’t chosen to participate in this playtest, don’t fret—there will be more planned and it will also include consoles confirmed. Aside from the playtest, EA has been silent on the new Battlefield game. There’s no official title for it yet, and while most are assuming it’ll be released later this year, EA has remained cagey about that, only confirming it will be released before April 2026. Chances are, EA is waiting to see whether Rockstar releases Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall 2025 as planned since no one wants to get in the way of that juggernaut and get obliterated.

What DICE has said about the new Battlefield game sounds promising, as one of the devs said they are “cherry-picking” the best parts of other Battlefield games to put in the new one.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Review – Withstanding the Test of Time

[summaraize]

The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster has finally arrived, reviving two of the most cherished RPGs from the 90s, offering enhanced graphics, refined gameplay, and an updated soundtrack. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or a first-time player, this remaster delivers an engaging journey through epic battles, rich storytelling, and memorable characters.

But does it do justice to the originals? Let’s take a closer look at our review.

Timeless Classics

There’s a reason why so many revere Suikoden I and II, as the cult classics have garnered a fanbase that has touted the series as perhaps the greatest RPGs to ever grace the gaming landscape. It’s debatable, of course, but as someone who played through the originals when they were released in the 90s, I can honestly say that these two gems are right up there with some of the best gaming offers. That was my general thought at least 30 years ago (god, I’m old), and though the series has unfortunately gone downhill, I still hold the originals in high regard. When Konami announced that they were remasting the first two games a few years ago, I was excited to see the franchise finally come back. Fast forward to the year of its 30th anniversary, and the remasters are finally here.

It’s been decades since I replayed the first two Suikoden games, and though I have fond memories of them, much of my recollection of them has already faded. It’s nice because there are a few games out there that I wish I could play again for the very first time, and with its updated visuals and enhancements, Konami has given me that wish. However, instead of your traditional HD collection, where performance and resolution are typically the only significant enhancements, Konami has taken things up several notches. What we have here feels more akin to a remake regarding the visuals, with some much-needed quality-of-life improvements while maintaining the same story, combat, and music that we all grew up loving.

I know the games are 30 years old, but I won’t spoil the story for either. The series was pretty popular back then, but nowadays, not so much that many people haven’t played them. So, seeing them in a much-needed re-release is a great deal, as it gives those who never played them an opportunity to play them, and for long-time fans, a new way to experience them with their updated visuals and enhancements.

What I will say about both of their stories is that they still very much hold up, even by today’s standards. The first Suikoden did age a bit worse than the sequel, but its tale, one of friendship, betrayal, and the consequences of war, is one you’ll want to experience yourself. If you haven’t played any of them but heard of the franchise, then you have probably heard more about the sequel, which dialed everything up to 11 from the original. While you don’t need to play Suikoden, I to understand Suikoden II, many other fans and I highly recommend doing so. Naturally, being a sequel, there are things in the story that will be referenced, along with a host of improvements made to several mechanics, such as the battle system and expanded rune system. But ultimately, the sequel is its own thing. Sure, It takes place in the same timeline and a few years after the first game, but the protagonist and most of the characters you meet are entirely new so that you could enjoy it as a standalone.

I’d still recommend going through the first game, though, as it provides a better understanding of the overarching story that continues while offering more character development on some of the returning faces you’ll see in the sequel. You’ll come to appreciate how they’ve grown since the last game a lot more, having seen them before, but again, it’s not required. Suikoden I and II can be enjoyed entirely on their own, almost like how the Final Fantasy series has handled it. However, Suikoden titles remain connected, unlike Final Fantasy, where every game is essentially an entirely different universe and not tied into one another. So again, you should definitely play through the first game despite what some have said and how much more highly praised its sequel is.

But I do get the “why” behind so many recommending II over I, as the game is far better in every way. It takes what made the first game so great and even greater, expanding on several gameplay mechanics like the one mentioned before. Its story, though, is what really puts it over for me, as while it starts a bit on the slow side, it ends up being one of the greatest tales in gaming. Even decades after its release, it still holds up, and I can’t help but find myself falling in love with all the characters again after all these years. The writing is superb, and the way it’s able to toy around with your emotions with all the twists and turns is something I never experienced in a game before its original 1999 release. Replaying this masterpiece in 2025 with updated visuals and such, the game still hits hard as hell when it comes to the emotional department, and again, the writing is so good, it’s hard to think something like this came out 26 years ago.

You could say the games were ahead of their time, which is even shown in its classic-turned-based combat that comes with a twist.

In retrospect, and seeing all the games that have come out today, Suikoden I&II, can somewhat be described as classic turn-based games. You get into fights and take turns between enemies and allies, all while strategically planning your next move. But what made these games stand out is the massive cast of characters that you could recruit to join your party. Typically, JRPGs tend to focus on 4-8 party members. Both Suikoden games have over 100 recruitable characters, with plenty joining you during the main quests and others optional to find. They aren’t just cookie-cutter recruitable either, as they all vary from one another and have different sets of skills and attacks. That makes for some interesting play setups you can play around with. There is tons of variety to play around with, and with the rune system, you can play around with different types of equipable magic, too.

However, in addition to the classic turn-based combat, both Suikoden games feature Duals and Army Battles. Duals are one-on-one fights and, in many ways, in a rather cinematic form, as characters exchange dialogue while the camera is spinning around. Fights are like rock, paper, scissors, where you must pick the right attack that hopefully counters whatever the enemy picks.

In both Suikodens, army battles are massive fights that see a battalion of soldiers from each side fighting each other. In Suikoden I, the combat was similar to how Duals work in that they function off a similar rock, paper, scissor form of combat, with three archetypes of soldiers you control. The sequel functions more off the turned-based combat, with a grid you can move around on, with combat being stat-based. It’s much deeper and involves more thinking than the first game.

What makes the combat so interesting is that there’s a real risk to be had with them. Typically, in other games, if characters die during combat, everything will be fine as long as you live, as they’ll still be alive after the battle. The story will go on as it’s intended to go on for those characters. This is not the case with Suikoden, as characters who fall in battle can be dead forever until you start a fresh save. It was a mind-boggling mechanic when it first came out in the ’90s, and even more mind-boggling when you realized it affected the story too, giving the game multiple endings. As I said, the games were ahead of their time, and seeing these mechanics once more again, with modernized visuals and a plethora of small quality-of-life (speed-up battle toggle is fantastic) improvements, you’d swear these were games that were crafted in today’s age.

Now, I do have some minor nitpicks. The first is that if you aren’t too big on the visual changes, there’s no way to play the game in its original format in this release. If you’re new to the franchise, this won’t be a problem, but old-timers like myself might want to be able to go back and play what we originally played. It depends on the person, of course. I welcome the new visuals, but even then, there were some parts where I felt I preferred the original look. The next thing, as far as I can tell, there are no filter options. I think what really would have benefitted this remaster is if there was a more pixelated filter to pick from. Sometimes, things look too clean. Again, it’s not an issue for people new to the series. Finally, I would have loved to see the speed-up toggle added to outside combat because even though I really love playing through the game, sometimes I wish I could speed past certain parts. The latter two can be addressed in a patch or, if you play on PC, likely through mods and cheats, but I do hope Konami adds some options for them in an upcoming patch.

“Enjoy the Moments You Have Together Because Nothing Lasts Forever.”

At the end of the day, the remasters are exactly what you’d hope for out of a graphical update that remains faithful to the original releases. They are the definitive way to play through them, especially if you’ve never played through them before.

Sure, I would have loved to see just a bit more in terms of enhancements and new features when it comes to some of the gameplay elements and options. Still, this is a splendid collection that retains everything I loved about the originals, though now with a shinier coat of paint that makes it feel fresh and exciting to revisit. I can’t think of a better way to reexperience these gems of a masterpiece, and though I don’t feel as fondly for the latter iterations, I do hope this remaster paves the way for more collections in the series.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros

  • On the visual side, this feels more like a remake than a traditional HD remaster. The visuals have been overhauled with new models, textures, and coloring, in addition to the HD upscaling and aspect ratio.
  • Incredible stories.
  • The music—the Reliving Suikoden II soundtrack—reminds me why I consider it one of the greatest OSTs in a JRPG.
  • It’s fun and has engaging combat that felt way ahead of its time.
  • Hundreds of recruitable party members.
  • Faithful, even to being able to import your Suikoden I into Suikoden II and naming your character the same for some bonuses.

Cons

  • There are no options to play the titles in their original non-HD version with this re-release.
  • No filter options or speed-ups outside of battles.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster will be released on March 6, 2025, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A review code was provided by the publisher for review purposes.  You can check our review of the game here.

Sony Releases New PS3 Update in 2025

[summaraize]

Nope, you’re not imagining things. Sony has actually released a new PlayStation 3 update today, March 5, 2025! Players will see this a PS3 update 4.92, and this is a small download that (understandably) doesn’t bring in any new features.

Clocking in at just 200MB, this patch brings what you’d expect from an unannounced title update for an old console.

PS3 Update 4.92 Released in 2025

PS3 Update 4.90

Sony’s announcement of the patch reads:

An update to the PS3™ system software was released on 03/05/25.

To download the update, you need a minimum of 200MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Always update your PS3 system to the latest version of the system software. By updating, you can enjoy additional features, improved usability, and enhanced security.

Please note, to play Blu-ray discs, your PS3 system needs a renewed Blu-ray player encryption key. Please update your PS3 system software to the latest version to renew the Blu-ray player encryption key.

Version 4.92

  • This system software update improves system performance.

Yep, that’s about it. Most of the time, updates like these are released to plug in any security loopholes that modders discover, and these are not disclosed to the public.

For context, the PS3 was released way back in 2006, which means this update has been pushed out for a system that’s almost 20 years old. I mean, this console can legally drink in most states and countries now (which is wild if you think about it).

As for the PS5, there’s a new beta program announced by Sony which even PC players can join in to test new features.
