New Battlefield Labs Leak Features Tank Gameplay, Gives Early Look at Menus, Squad Screen, UI

[summaraize]

While we just got a short look at leaked gameplay of the new Battlefield game via the first playtest session of Battlefield Labs, more gameplay has surfaced. This one includes our first look at tank gameplay, which might put a smile on Battlefield veterans’ faces.

In addition to that, we also have footage of the game’s in-development menus, user interface, squad screen and more. Again, the footage below is from pre-alpha gameplay, and as such, is not representative of the final product you’ll see at launch. There are placeholder assets, animations aren’t fully formed and more. If you notice bugs, graphical glitches, this is the exact reason why publisher Electronic Arts doesn’t want the gaming populace seeing it right away.

Tank Gameplay in Battlefield Labs Looks Similar to BF3/BF4

As you can see, the tank can sit five players simultaneously. There are also vehicle perks/modifications such as smoke grenades that I’m assuming you’ll be able to unlock by earning proficiency with the vehicle.

The good news is that the tank’s combat behavior and controls all look similar to Battlefield 3 or BF4. If so, I doubt anyone will complain about that, given that the two games’ vehicular combat was one of the best in the franchise.

The next clip shows infantry gameplay as one squad attacks the opposing side and even encounters a tank! We then get to how the gunplay is shaping up, which DICE emphasizes along with the movement philosophy.

Lastly, we have footage of the game’s menus, user interface and even the squad screen! Given the state they’re in the leaked footage, these are obviously a work in progress, and as such, shouldn’t be judged right away.

So far, EA hasn’t acknowledged the leaks, though it is getting a warm reception on social media, so EA at least has that to boost its confidence that it is on the right path. The publisher is aware that there is trepidation among the Battlefield player base, given that the past Battlefield games we’ve gotten didn’t really live up to expectations.

Expect more news about the new Battlefield game here on MP1st. Stay tuned for our article where we talk about the playtest leaks and what it confirms we’ll see in the in-development Battlefield game.

Sony Appoints Former PlayStation Exec Lin Tao as First Woman CFO Role at Company

[summaraize]

As you may know, Hiroki Totoki, the current President of Sony, will take over as the CEO in April. However, this is not the most surprising news for the members of Sony’s executive team.

The more interesting development is that Lin Tao has become the new CFO (Chief Financial Officer) of Sony, a position that many expected would go to Naoya Horii, who was considered a favorite of Totoki. Tao’s appointment makes her the first woman to hold the CFO position at Sony.

If you think this is a minor change, you are mistaken. In general, becoming the CFO is the first step toward becoming the company’s president and CEO.

Who is Lin Tao?

lin tao sony cfo

Lin Tao joined Sony in 2000, where she worked in the gaming division responsible for PlayStation and in the mobile phone sector. In 2016, she moved to the CEO’s office, working closely with former president Kazuo Hirai and his successor, Kenichiro Yoshida.

In 2021, Tao started her current role as Vice President overseeing finance, business development, and strategy for Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). Tao played a key role in several major acquisitions, including the $3.7 billion purchase of Bungie.

When Totoki took charge of SIE as president in 2023 and then as interim CEO the following year, Tao became his right-hand in restructuring the company.

Tao has received praise for her business acumen, with some saying she is not afraid to voice opinions that go against top management. She is seen as a global talent with a deep understanding of the business world. People who know her describe her as logical, reflective, and good at putting people at ease. She has an ability to connect with people from different backgrounds. “A female CFO would have an impact in terms of diversity,” said a Sony Group executive.

Her promotion is significant because “they probably wouldn’t make her CFO unless they had the intention of making her the next president,” said a former executive. However, there are other potential candidates for the position, such as Chief Digital Officer Tsuyoshi Kodera and Hideaki Nishino, the incoming president and CEO of SIE.

“The appointment of the next president is still a long way off, and we don’t know if Tao will be the president,” said a current Sony Group executive. However, the fact that there is a possibility now is new for the company.

In other news, in January 2025, the company made a big shift in its leadership structure. Former Guerrilla Games head, Herman Hulst, was initially appointed co-CEO alongside Hideaki Nishino. However, after challenges faced by live-service games, Sony likely decided to make Nishino the sole CEO.

New Battlefield 2025 Gameplay From Playtest Leaks, First Look at Infantry Combat, UI and More

[summaraize]

I can’t say I’m surprised, but gameplay from the first playtest of Battlefield Labs, which kicked off today, has already leaked online! This gives us our first look at the new Battlefield in action!

Before diving in and dissecting the footage, remember: this is pre-alpha gameplay. DICE has mentioned that some of the assets are placeholders, and this is not representative of the final product players will see when the game launches.

In the Battlefield 2025 leaked gameplay, we see infantry combat, a look at the UI and even a small peek at the destruction mechanics that seem to be on the same level of Battlefield 3.

Some more

Destruction

If you want a better look at the UI currently available (which reminded me of Battlefield 3’s UI), check out the images:

View post on imgur.com

It’s best to watch it now before EA sics their hound dogs and has them pulled. That said, more footage of it is surfacing, so more information about it should be available. What we’ve seen so far is substantial, as we’ve seen combat, a brief look at one of the maps, and more.

In terms of official info, DICE has talked about the gunplay and movement philosophy they’re applying to the new Battlefield, where the studio confirmed that combat dives, landing rolls and more will be part of the movement.

[summaraize]

A new Monster Hunter Wilds update is set to come out next week (March 10), with Capcom releasing details for what hunters can expect in the patch. Capcom calls it Monster Hunter Wilds next update 1.000.50.00, and it brings a good list of gameplay-related fixes.

Good news, for those having crashing issues, this update may finally address those and then some.

Monster Hunter Wilds Next Update 1.000.50.00 Patch Preview

Here are the issues set to be tackled by the next patch for Monster Hunter Wilds set to go live on March 10 (Monday). It’s not confirmed by Capcom whether this is the complete patch notes, or if more will be added.:

  • The Meal Invitation event at Azuz and Sild does not occur on some occasions.
  • An issue occurring when using Equipment Loadout, causing decorations to be removed from equipment, Bowgun Customization being reverted back to default, and Kinsects reverting to the initial rarity.
  • When cutting off monster parts, the parts change into a monster part from a different monster.
  • Gravios does not gain resistance to flinches after breaking its parts.
  • An issue which may cause crashes or some monsters to act strangely under certain situations.
  • Some skills are unintentionally activated under certain conditions.
  • Some items/rewards can be obtained repeatedly under certain conditions.
  • When trying to catch a fish with a capture net, the fishes nearby do not swim away from the fishing spot.
  • Some environmental features such as floating rubbles can be activated multiple times.
  • An issue wherein Main Mission: Chapter 5-1 “Omens” cannot be progressed.
  • Palico’s support move “Attract Vigorwasps” may cause the hunter to become unresponsive to some controls.
  • When scrolling through the quest list, only the first 20 quests are shown correctly.
  • An issue which may cause the game to forcefully shut down when starting a game with saved data that encountered a force quit.

Some of the issues that won’t be fixed with this update (since patches are submitted beforehand for certification, etc).

Some currently known issues as of March 7, 2025:

  • A network error occurs when firing an SOS flare right after a quest begins.
  • Link Members are not prioritized over other players and may not appear in some places including Base Camps.
  • Palico’s attacks with blunt weapons do not inflict stun and exhaust damages.
  • Hunter Profile cannot be edited properly in some occasions.

For the latest round of fixes released this week, head on over here.

Battlefield Labs Gunplay & Movement Philosophy: Optimizing for 60hz Tick Rate, Crouch Sprint, Combat Dive and Landing Roll Confirmed

[summaraize]

In case you didn’t know, Battlefield Labs’ first playtest is kicking off today. While not everyone can join in on the fun, DICE has relayed some of the items they’re currently looking for feedback on from players, including gunplay and movement.

DICE has shared the philosophy they’re going for in the new Battlefield game, and this time, the studio seems to be a lot more transparent compared to past franchise entries.

Battlefield Labs Gunplay and Movement Philosophy

new battlefield gameplay breakdown

We’ve condensed what was revealed by DICE in an easy-to-read format below.

General Philosophy on Gunplay and Movement

  • Finding right balance between intuitive control and dynamic combat
  • Designing combat experience to ensure players of all skill levels can enjoy gunplay and movement systems
  • Gunplay design is centered on helping players learn and develop skills and muscle memory through action, as weapons naturally signal their recoil direction.
  • The feedback loop allows players to understand and adjust aim, making it easier to handle different weapons.\

Gunplay

  • DICE mention how they will initially test select “important areas that create the foundation required to create a fun and rewarding Battlefield combat experience.”
  • Developing focused efforts to create consistent and optimized “millisecond-to-millisecond soldier combat.”
  • Reduced the time it takes for bullets to appear on player’s screen from when players press fire. This should decrease input delay, make shooting feel more responsive, and helps players better track and hit moving targets.
  • Optimizing for 60hz tick rate, ensuring the game’s server more frequently updates the positions and actions for all players. Players should notice more precise shooting and movement, enhanced damage feedback and more accurate representation of other players’ position and combat outcomes.
  • Recoil system has been adjusted to make the different weapon types feel unique when firing them.
  • Enhancements to gunplay recoil, camera shakes, firing settles should make each shot’s recoil direction now match its gameplay angle.

Movement

  • Revamped animations
  • Reintroduced combat features such as crouch sprint, combat dive and landing roll
  • Added visual indicators to make it easier to understand when movements such as vaulting or leaning are possible

Those in the playtest, remember: Battlefield Labs is in pre-alpha stage, and focuses on testing small chunks of a larger array of features. Some gameplay features are placeholders and work-in-progress, so expect bugs and performance to not be as polished as it should be compared to the final version of the experience.

The first play session, DICE will be testing the server performance, while participants will be able to familiarize themselves with what’s next for the Battlefield franchise  through the gunplay and movement experience that focuses on:

  • Feel of the different weapon archetypes
  • Improvements to aim and control
  • Weapon balance and fun factor
  • Look and feel of movement
  • Moving and interacting within the map
  • Combat pacing

Expect more breakdowns like this to be revealed in the coming weeks to talk about the team’s learnings from the first play session. This is a good first step by DICE to let players know that they are serious in community feedback, and righting the wrongs from past Battlefield games.

Hopefully we’ll be able to see official gameplay soon.

Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Now Comes in Gorgeous Purple; Stealth 500 Gets Artic Camo

[summaraize]

One of the best gaming headsets available, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600, has a brand-new colorway! That’s not all either, as its other sibling, the Turtle Beach Stealth 500, is now available in Artic Camo.

Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Purple Colorway to Go Alongside Your Minnesota Vikings Shrine

All right, so Turtle Beach and the Minnesota Vikings have no connection to each other whatsoever. But being from the cold land of 10,000 lakes, I couldn’t help but include the Vikings, as they do have something in common: they share the color purple. As they do with the late Prince, who’s from Minnesota and obviously loved the color purple. Yes, I know I’m off track, but the new color option spoke to me more than it should have, and it’s a pretty good-looking and sounding headset overall.

The Stealth 600 will be available exclusively at Target in the U.S. and participating retailers globally for a $99.99 MSRP.

The Turtle Beach Stealth 500 has also received a new color variant: Artic Camo. The PlayStation version will be exclusive to Walmart in the U.S. and at participating retailers globally, while the Xbox version of the Artic Camo will be available at select retailers globally.

What’s next from Turtle Beach? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see as the audio manufacturer continues to celebrate one of its best-selling headsets with these new colorways.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Graphical Modes Detailed for PS5 and PS5 Pro

[summaraize]

We are just two weeks away from the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and to help build hype, Ubisoft has released a brand-new 20-minute gameplay video showcasing both of the game’s protagonists.

But what may be more exciting for console players is that we finally know the graphical options for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as modes have been detailed for the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro models.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Graphical ModesFeatures Ray Tracing on All PS5 Models, With PS5 Pro Getting Extended Features

I have to say, the game is looking better and better with every gameplay video released. Luckily, we don’t have long to wait as the release is just in a few short weeks.

Elsewhere, over on the PlayStation Blog, Ubisoft has also detailed the graphical modes for Assassin’s Creed Shadows for both PS5 and PS5 Pro. They are as follows:

Ray Tracing Models

  • Selective Ray Tracing: Uses compute global illumination for diffuse lighting in the Hideout portion of the game
  • Standard Ray Tracing: Uses compute global illumination for diffuse lighting throughout the game world
  • Extended Ray Tracing: Full support of ray tracing to compute global illumination for diffuse lighting and reflective surfaces throughout the entire game world

PS5 (Standard) Modes

  • PS5 – Performance Mode
    • 2160p upscaled, 60 FPS, Selective* Ray Tracing
  • PS5 – Fidelity Mode
    • 2160p upscaled, 30 FPS, Standard** Ray Tracing
  • PS5 – Balanced Mode (requires 120/240hz display and HDMI 2.1)
    • 2160p upscaled, 40 FPS, Standard Ray Tracing

PS5 Pro Modes

  • PS5 Pro – Performance Mode
    • 2160p upscaled, 60 FPS, Standard Ray Tracing
  • PS5 Pro – Fidelity Mode
    • 2160p upscaled, 30 FPS, Extended*** Ray Tracing
  • PS5 Pro – Balanced Mode (requires 120/240hz display and HDMI 2.1)
    • 2160p upscaled, 40 FPS, Extended Ray Tracing

Pretty surprising to see ray tracing available on not only both console models but also throughout every available mode. Hopefully it doesn’t have a big impact on the game’s performance, as ray tracing can be pretty demanding, even if its not the full version of it in the other modes.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows arrives March 20 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

  • [Ballistic] Sling weapon loses status when EVO levels up during Ult

If we get a proper changelog from the studio, we’ll be sure to update the article with the info.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford Defends Borderlands 4, Says If You Want the Best Borderlands “Cheer and Root for Us”

[summaraize]

As Borderlands 4 prepares for its release in September, Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, has made a public request to video game fans. On social media, Pitchford specifically asked for more positive, encouraging messages to show appreciation for developers.

“Do you want the best Borderlands? Root for us and cheer us on,” he wrote on X, calling out those who keep sending negative messages, arguing, and insulting the developers.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford Defends Borderlands 4 Against Fan Criticism

Pitchford’s call came after some trouble in the past few days. Just a few months ago, Pitchford decided to block a long-time Borderlands fan on social media after the fan criticized Borderlands 4 for being too much like the third game. The CEO was attacked on X and Reddit, and even a director from Midwest Games joined in, saying he did not agree with how developers were not respecting the opinions of Borderlands fans. Pitchford responded strongly, telling the community not to take the “developers passion for granted.”

“I didn’t see any critique,” said the CEO. “I just saw shitty negativity that was demotivating. Want the best Borderlands? Root for us and cheer us on. If you take developer’s passion for granted, we’ll all pay the price. I love criticism and, thankfully, I have never been in short supply. Don’t gaslight me on his post. It wasn’t criticism. It was pessimism. It’s toxic for people killing themselves for your entertainment, so fuck that noise.”

Indeed, in recent years, the gaming community has become much more critical of developers and game studios. Many studios have been constantly dealing with negativity. For example, Ubisoft has faced ongoing criticism over the past couple of years, with some fans even hoping for the company’s failure. Fans should support and encourage developers, rather than focusing on the negative, to help create better games.

The latest info about the game mentions:

  • Crash into Kairos as one of four new Vault Hunters seeking wealth and glory. Wield powerful Action Skills, customize your build with deep skill trees, and dominate enemies with dynamic movement abilities.
  • Break free from the oppressive Timekeeper, a ruthless dictator who dominates the masses from on high. Now a world-altering catastrophe threatens his perfect Order, unleashing mayhem across the planet.
  • Ignite a resistance and blast your way through mechanical monstrosities, bloodthirsty bandits, and vicious beasts. Amass an arsenal of death-dealing firepower to wreak havoc as you tear your way across Kairos.
  • Fight solo or in co-op with up to three other players in this immense sci-fi adventure, packed with free-form combat and exploration, pulse-pounding boss fights, infinitely varied loot drops, and an eclectic cast of unforgettable characters new and old.

Borderlands 4 is set to be released on September 23, 2025 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Report: Discord in Early Talks to Go Public

[summaraize]

A new report from the Financial Times (paywalled) suggests that Discord may want to go public, with plans to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in the near future. This has already caused some concern among gamers, who are ready to protest the decision.

At the moment, nothing is official, but according to the report, Discord’s administrators have started consulting with banks to potentially carry out the IPO in the United States in the coming months, with plans to become a publicly traded company after that.

Plans for Discord to Go Public in 2021 Delayed by Political and Market Uncertainty

discord to go public

The report also mentions that Discord had planned to go public back in 2021, but these plans were later postponed due to “political and market uncertainty” at the time. This situation could still be a concern for the current period.

In 2021, Discord also had a partnership with Sony, where the Japanese company made a significant investment in Discord, becoming a minority shareholder and integrating some chat system features into PS5. However, this did not lead to any major changes for Sony’s console services, and the integration process has been rather slow.

Additionally, in the same year, Discord rejected a $12 billion acquisition offer from Microsoft, which could have further impacted its future direction. The possibility of Discord becoming a publicly traded company seems to be the next step for the platform, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

The rumors of a potential IPO are likely to stir things up among gamers, who will probably express their displeasure with the idea. A major concern will be that Discord has always prioritized service quality over maximizing profits. However, once listed on the stock exchange, the company might shift its focus to profits at any cost. This could lead to cost-cutting measures or the introduction of ads and other similar solutions.

Astro Bot Update 1.015 Released for Hard to Bear Level and New Bot

[summaraize]

As expected, Team Asobi has released Astro Bot update 1.015 today, and this is to bring the Hard to Bear level into the game as well as a new bot (which might come as a surprise to some people who it is).

The file download for this clocks in at 390MB and is once again free to all game owners. Read on for a look at the new bot and details about the update.

Astro Bot Download Verison 1.015 Delivers Hard to Bear and a Nod to a Forgotten PlayStation Game

Completing today’s newly-added level will snag you the “Bearly Rescued” trophy. So who’s the new bot to be resued this week? It’s none other than Sir Galahad from the game The Order: 1886!

If you’re not familiar with Sir Galahad, he is the protagonist of The Order: 1886, a story-focused action game developed by Ready at Dawn. It was released in 2015 for the PS4, and while it was a visual spectacle, it garnered mixed reviews due to overabundance of QTE’s (QuickTime events) and linear combat. Personally, I loved the game and was hoping for a sequel to flesh out the excellent story and cliffhanger ending.

We’re in the home stretch and about to get the last free content update that was previously announced. Expect the Armored Hardcore level to be available next week on March 13:

  • Mar 6: Hard to Bear
  • Mar 13: Armored Hardcore

The patch download are all scheduled to be released every Thursday at 6 am PT/9 am ET/10 pm HKT/10 pm JST. For today, it’s been pushed out earlier for some unknown reason.

Will we see the character leaked in last year’s poster make an appearance? Or will it be a bot connected to one of FromSoftware’s franchises? We’ll know for sure come next week.
