Destiny – Legendary Holiday Gifts Lie In Wait At The Postmaster

Legendary gifts lie in wait for Guardians who’ve played Destiny on or before the Holidays.

Upon visiting the Postmaster in The Tower, you’ll find Special Delivery waiting for you. The package contains a randomized Legendary Vendor Weapon with a potential attack rating of 331. At least, that seems to be the case thus far for most Guardians.

Screen Shot 2015-01-07 at 9.47.01 AM

According to developer Bungie, “Packages are being deployed by the millions throughout the day.” Players should “Check [their] emails and the Postmaster for confirmation.”

Don’t be too disappointed if it’s a either a weapon you currently already own or if it’s is not of use to you. I opened my package only to find a duplicate LDR 5001 Sniper Rifle that I immediately dismantled into extra Ascendant Energy, so I won’t complain! Also, it looks like Bungie is only handing out one gift per account, not per Guardian. So even if you have three characters in business, you’ll only receive one package.

Either way, the gesture is much appreciated. Thanks, Bungie!

What did you get from the Postmaster? Tell us in the comments!

Razer Cortex Joins Steam And Nvidia In The Race To Be Your Game Streaming Software Of Choice

Valve’s Steam platform is undoubtedly the biggest PC Gaming marketplace, but it’s becoming more than just a place to to dump all of your money over holiday sales and send your wallet to therapy because it feels empty. It’s also adding features like music and, as of last year, In-Home Streaming.

Also having joined Steam in offering streaming services for PC is Nvidia, using its GPUs past the GTX 660 to give gamers on the go a reason to invest in a Shield, a device specifically built to let you play your PC games remotely. But now, it seems that a new contender is in for the streaming glory: Razer Cortex.

Launching in beta later this, Razer Cortex is a new streaming software that costs $40, which can stream your favorite PC games to your Android microconsole so you don’t have to move your PC next to your TV in the living room. However, if you don’t happen to own an Android microconsole and are still wanting to dive into the age of game streaming, Razer has you covered with its own microconsole titled Forge TV, which boasts some nice specs:

  • Snapdragon 805 Chipset
  • 2.5 GHz Krait 450 CPU
  • Adreno 420 GPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB Storage
  • HDMI 1.4 Output
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • AC Wireless
  • Gigabit Ethernet

While the two aren’t bundled yet (it would be heavily appreciated), we expect a one to be offered when both Cortex and Forge TV launch later during the first quarter of this year.

Report – Microsoft Unlocks More Xbox One CPU Power For Developer Use In Latest Upgrade

According to reports coming from leaked documents outlining the Xbox One’s latest upgrades and newest development tools, Microsoft has allegedly opened up a seventh CPU core to developers, offering game makers a boost in processing power.

The news follows the trend Microsoft set in motion earlier last year when the company began freeing up resources normally reserved for background tasks, like Kinect camera functions, to instead serve the console’s performance in displaying better game visuals.

Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry reports that, since October, Microsoft has given developers access to 50% to 80% of a seventh processing core. Previously, both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 reserved two of eight processing cores strictly for multi-tasking, background tasks, and each console’s operating system.

However, providing game makers on Xbox One with six and a half or more cores of CPU power doesn’t come without its own headaches. While games might certainly benefit from the added performance, as titles like Assassin’s Creed Unity and Grand Theft Auto 5 are believed to already have done so, the possibility of game-specific and console-related voice commands eating up 50% or more of that seventh core’s usage still a reality.

Essentially, developers can’t access its full potential if space is still needed to perform voice-activated tasks at a moments notice. That said, reports indicate that Microsoft is on course to address the issue in a future SDK update.

Digital Foundry offers their findings in greater detail, which can be read here.

Two New Halo 5: Guardians Forge Maps Go To The Polls For Final Week of Beta

Tomorrow, Halo fans will get the chance to vote between two new Forge-created maps for inclusion in the currently ongoing Halo 5: Guardians Arena Multiplayer Beta.

“Pegasus” and “Orion” were both created using a suite of tools available in Halo 5’s Forge mode, which we’ve yet to see in action as of yet. By heading over to the Halo Channel on Xbox One or your Windows 8.1 device during tomorrow’s episode of the Halo Bulletin, you’ll be able to drop a vote on one of the two maps. The winner will be playable in the beta during its last week of being online, ending on January 18.

IGN has gameplay videos of both maps, so you can see both in action before making your choice tomorrow. Check ’em out below:

Pegasus

Orion

According to Halo 5 studio head Josh Holmes’ talk with IGN, 343 Industries “will likely create and release a handful of [Forge] maps [for Halo 5]” on release. But they’re “most excited to see what the community is able to create when they get their hands on Forge,” he added.

In Halo 5’s new-and-improved Forge mode, Holmes said the studio has “made number of improvements to usability as well as providing multiple palettes, terrain sheets, and lighting set-ups for Forgers to build with.”

As for for the full game’s roster of multiplayer maps, Holmes explained that players shouldn’t expect any more map remakes like Halo 5’s “Regret”, a reimagining of the Halo 2 map, “Midship”. “We have no plans to remake any other classic Halo maps at this time,” he said.

Lastly, Holmes added that the studio has no plans for a second multiplayer beta, but fans can expect more news on “the remainder of [their] multiplayer suite next year including larger, more vehicle-focused experiences.”

Mortal Kombat X – First Online Details Revealed, Kung Lao Returns As A Playable Character

NetherRealm Studios, the development team behind the Mortal Kombat franchise, has been relatively quiet ever since the reveal of Quan-Chi a few months back. Thankfully, they’ve finally decided to break their silence in the latest issue of Finnish gaming magazine, Pelaaja, revealing yet another cast member joining Mortal Kombat X’s roster along with more details on the game.

Despite the issue not being available yet to the public, a member of the Test Your Might forum, AeroGrunt, managed to snag a copy early and translate its contents. It contains tons of new information about Mortal Kombat X, such as the first details of its online multiplayer and, of course, a new character reveal.

The new character in question is none other than a now aged Kung Lao. This addition is a rather surprising and shocking, considering of the events that unfolded during the franchise’s reboot in Mortal Kombat 9. You can see the first image of one of Kung Lao’s here:

3IeWmar

Taking a page from Kano and making use of the game’s 25-years-in-the-future time line, Kung Lao is sporting a completely new look. Much like the rest of the revealed cast, Kung Lao has three very distinct fighting styles that you can check out below:

  • Buzzsaw: Allows Kung Lao to control his hat throw and the brim of his hat is razor blade sharp.
  • Hat Trick: Can call back your hat after throwing it anytime making it possible to extend your combos.
  • Tempest: Uses more spinning attacks and allows his hat to orbit around him.

Elsewhere in the latest issues of Pelaaja, Ed Boon spilled the beans regarding what NetherRealm Studios has in stored for the online portion of Mortal Kombat. He said:

“Online features are much more complex this time around. For example when you start the game you get to choose your own alliance from five different options: Lin Kuei, White Lotus, Brotherhood of Shadows, Special Force and Black Dragon. Basically each team gathers so called “battle points” for their team, which decides how the game’s menus look both in single and multiplayer. This way each player contributes to the entirety whether or not you prefer the social aspects or playing by yourself.”

That’s not all, as Mortal Kombat X will also feature the ability to have any issues, such as bugs or character balancing, addressed via hot fixes, much like Injustice: Gods Among Us. Those who loved the Challenge Tower from Mortal Kombat 9 will be also happy to know that it will return in Mortal Kombat X, with some challenges constantly changing, even changing up to every hour.

Mortal Kombat X will be available on April 14, for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.

Rumor – Major Destiny Expansion Planned For September, Includes 3 New Subclasses, 2 New Weapons, 1 New Location, and More

When Destiny launched last September, it was criticized for its lack of content in the story department and for only featuring a limited amount of fresh tasks to complete with your Fire Team. But now, it seems that after 3 months on the market, developer Bungie is on track to produce much more expansion content than we originally thought as 2015 progresses, if recent rumors are to be believed.

According to reports, an insider at Bungie allegedly took a quick screen grab while in a production meeting, detailing the road ahead for newly planned downloadable content.

bungie-rumor

It’s a bit fuzzy, but you can make out that Destiny’s expansion content goes beyond the two previously announced packs, Expansion I: The Dark Below and Expansion II: House of Wolves. We’ve compiled a list of content planned beyond Expansion I: The Dark Below shown in the picture for easy pickings.

  • EP2: House of Wolves
    • 3 Story Missions
    • 1 Strike
    • 1 Raid
    • 4 PvP Maps
  • Comet: Plague of Darkness
    • 12 Story Missions
    • 4 Strikes
    • 1 Raid
    • 6 PvP Maps
    • 3 New Subclasess
    • 2 New Weapon Types
    • New Base Level
    • New Location
  • EP3: Vex ???
    • 3 Story Missions
    • 2 Strikes
    • 1 Raid
    • Unknown amount of PvP Maps
  • EP4: Forge of Gods
    • TBA

The source claims that Comet: Plague of Darkness will be a major expansion for Destiny and will even be sold on disc to players who don’t wish to purchase it digitally. The Vex and Forge of Gods packs are most likely smaller expansions similar to The Dark Below and House of Wolves, featuring a pinch of new content for players to dive into.

However, what the source doesn’t mention is whether or not the Destiny Season Pass covers the rumored expansions, or if players will have to invest another $35 into Destiny to play all of its future content.

As you might imagine, this is still a rumor. It also just so happens that, after skimming over the large Reddit post about the topic, that the source image is claimed to have come from an Italian Destiny Community and has been around since October. So, it may very well be the case that things have changed since then; Content could have been cut or added, or the expansions scrapped all together.

Take this with a grain of salt, and for more Destiny news, keep your sights on MP1st.

New COD: Advanced Warfare Havoc Map Pack Details Emerge, Map Names and Release Date Revealed

New details on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s first map pack due out this January have emerged with the appearance of a new promotional poster that popped up earlier today.

According to the poster, seen below, Advanced Warfare’s Havoc map pack will launch on Xbox Live first this January 27.

As promised earlier, the biggest highlight of the downloadable content is the introduction of the new Exo Zombies mode, a four-player co-op survival mode similar to the one Treyarch made famous in their World at War and Black Ops games. This, we already knew, including the offering of a new DLC weapon, the AE4 Directed Energy Assault Rifle.

Today, the poster reveals the names of all four new competitive multiplayer maps as well — Sideshow, Core, Drift, and Urban. It’s tough to make out, but according to Sledgehammer Games studio head Michael Condrey, players should find something noteworthy in the background of the artwork for the map Drift.

Check out the full poster below and keep your sights on MP1st for more updates on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s first map pack!

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare “Blackscoping” Technique Yields Perfectly Accurate Sniper Shots

“Quickscoping”, as it’s called, remains arguably one of the most controversial topics in the history of online multiplayer first-person shooters like Call of Duty when it comes to weapon and gameplay balance. But in just a few days time, “quickscoping is so 2014” is likely what you’ll hear gamers argue if a recent discovery in Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare catches wind.

What is “blackscoping”? Call of Duty YouTube commentators “Daniel Kross” and “Drift0r” explain it in their latest videos:

[youtube id=”KWvr_07a-dU”]

[youtube id=”NLC8qsQ8oyY”]

You’ll see that firing a sniper rifle round within the three or so frames highlighted in the videos above will land a perfectly accurate shot at any distance in a speedy fashion, even quicker than what most would call “quickscoping” in some of the more recent Call of Duty titles and on par with how “quickscoping” worked in older Call of Duty titles like Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2.

Taking into account Sledgehammer’s efforts to render “quickscoping” ineffective in their latest shooter, it’s likely that the above discovery is a bug, rather than a feature, and may or may not be patched in any upcoming game updates. Seeing that it completely ignores the heavy scope sway that was implemented since day one, it’s doubtful that “blackscoping” was intended to be a legitimate tactic.

So, while you might have to deal with hyper-accurate sniper rifle users over the next while, at least you’ll know how it works and won’t be so mystified by that dude that landed that impossible shot.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare updates!
