New Mortal Kombat X Trailer Reveals Kung Lao And Kitana, Voice Casting Hints at More Returning Characters

Ever since Kung Lao’s surprising reveal earlier this month, Mortal Kombat fans have been asking the same question: “When will we get our first glimpse of Kung Lao in-game?”

That question is now answered in the recently released trailer for Mortal Kombat X. Check out the bone breaking trailer above.

Much like the surprising reveal of Kung Lao, Kitana, another character thought to be dead due to the events of Mortal Kombat 9, is very much alive. This reveal is pretty interesting, to say the least, as Kitana’s inclusion also brings up a rather interesting point.

An old tease by Ed Boon is slowly, but surely being answered:

As of today, two more clues of that original puzzle are now solved, which coincidentally happened to be the two boots who had a caricature of the actor Jack Nicholson in a previous tease.

Now, if these hints are anything to go by, those boots actually belong to returning characters who were, at some point during Mortal Kombat X’s, story under the control of Quan Chi. This makes it very plausible that we can also expect at least another three characters thought to be dead returning for Mortal Kombat X.

In addition, it appears that Mortal Kombat X’s page on IMDB has some rather interesting information regarding the upcoming fighters, as it lists voice actors who lent their voices for Baraka, Ermac and Mileena. Take it with a grain of salt, but would you like to see these characters return?

For more information on Mortal Kombat X, keep your eyes on MP1st.

Battlefield Hardline Beta Contents Revealed, Open To All Platforms

Battlefield Hardline‘s second multiplayer beta is coming to all platforms — PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 — developer Visceral Games confirmed today.

In a second entry to the studio’s new “This Season On Hardline” blog series, Visceral dove in to some brand new details about the upcoming beta, letting fans know what to expect and what they’ll be getting their hands on.

During the beta, players will have access to two game modes, Hotwire and 64-player Conquest. Conquest, we all know and love. Hotwire shifts the focus on vehicular warfare with moving objectives and high speed chases, which was showcased earlier last month in these community gameplay videos.

According to Visceral, player progression won’t be capped out at any level, meaning you can grind to as high of a rank as you would like. A gallery of new images were also found in the studio’s latest blog entry, presumably of the two maps that will be available in the beta, Dust Bowl and Downtown:

Sadly, an exact date for the launch of the beta is still unknown, so those anxious to find out will have to hang tight until the studio is ready to reveal it. As lead multiplayer designer Thadeus Sasser mentioned on Twitter, Visceral won’t make the announcement until the beta has passed certification and everything is in place. Keep your sights on MP1st in the meantime!

UPDATE: Reaching out to Sasser about the beta’s selection of weapons and gadgets, he mentioned that “progression is unlimited, but no word on weapons / gadgets.”

During the beta, players will be able to submit their feedback to the official forums on the Battlelog.

The update delivers on a number of promises, including the addition of Game Hubs, transparent tiles to better show off custom backgrounds, and new TV updates. Details were posted in the latest entry on Xbox Wire, which you can read below, including a new demonstrative video that you can catch above.

Have a look and let us know in the comments what Xbox One updates you’re still waiting on!

Game hubs

New in preview this month, game hubs are the go-to centers for all sorts of interesting content around your favorite games. Every Xbox One game will have a game hub where you can see which of your friends are playing the game, compete with your friends in game leaderboards, dive into the coolest game clips and game broadcasts, and follow the game’s VIPs and top players.

To get to the game hub for your favorite game, find a game in your pins, recently played list, or My games and apps, then press the Menu button and select View game hub. You can also search for any game in the Xbox Store and click on the game hub tile from the game’s store page.

Custom backgrounds and tile transparency

We listened to your feedback and added additional tile transparency to the Home tiles to make your background images more visible. As a reminder, to set a custom background, go to Settings > My Xbox > My background. Note: some items can’t be made transparent due to usage rights/restrictions for certain images.

TV updates

We’re releasing a lot of updates to the live TV experience and features are being released to additional countries in preview this month:

    • OneGuide for the Netherlands – Support for OneGuide will continue in preview for the Netherlands and the missing channels for the Netherlands OneGuide listings will become available over the next few weeks.
    • TV trending in OneGuide – As you scan the detailed OneGuide TV listings, you can see which shows are trending by a “Trending on Xbox” note and associated icon. Xbox – live TV trending is based on the number of Xbox One owners currently watching that show in each country, pulled from anonymous data collected at a national level. Currently, Xbox TV trending is available to all members in the U.S., UK and Canada.
    • Live TV trending (new countries) – France, Germany, Brazil and Mexico will begin seeing live TV trending data in Xbox OneGuide.

Halo 5: Guardians Beta Welcomes Second Forge Map To The Slayer Mix

343 Industries is welcoming a new map to the Slayer game mode rotation in the Halo 5: Guardians Arena Multiplayer Beta on Xbox One.

In a small update to the beta, the studio is making the second Forge map, Orion, that originally lost to Pegasus in last week’s vote available to play for all. It will join both Pegasus and Truth in the Slayer playlist.

According to multiplayer designer Quinn DelHoyo, Orion is an “asymmetrical with three different power weapons,” including the Hydra, Energy Sword, and Sniper Rifle.

This marks the last week of the beta, ending on January 18, so if you’ve got an Xbox One and own Halo: The Master Chief Collection, get in there and join the rumble with other Spartans.

Grand Theft Auto 5 PC Launch Moves To March, System Specs Revealed

Rockstar Games is taking a few extra weeks to polish and shine Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC, the studio announced today, moving the game’s launch date back a little further from its original January 27 release to March 24.

“Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be,” Rockstar said in a letter to fans. “Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March.”

Luckily, it doesn’t sound like GTA Online’s Online Heists mode, which was fully revealed only last month, is being delayed any further. As Rockstar clarified, “Online Heists for consoles will be launching in the coming weeks ahead of the PC launch.” So, no worries there.

On the bright side, the delay ought to give PC gamers a bit of extra time to make sure their rig is up to snuff in order to actually run the game come launch. Along with the new release date, Rockstar also outed the game’s official system requirements, which you can enjoy reading below:

Minimum specifications:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
  • DVD Drive

Recommended specifications:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Havoc Map Pack – First Look

Activision and Sledgehammer Games are offering a first gameplay look at the previously announced Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare map pack, Havoc.

Havoc is due out this January 27, first on Xbox Live, for $15. Of course, owners of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Season Pass will get it at no extra charge. The package introduces four new competitive multiplayer maps, Core, Urban, Sideshow, and Drift, and debuts a brand new four-player cooperative mode dedicated to Exo Zombie survival. Lastly, the AE4 directed-energy assault rifle and its variant, the AE4 Widowmaker, will also be added to your arsenal.

Check out the details below, along with the first gameplay trailer above.

Core

“Deploy to the Gobi desert where the ravaged ruins of a nuclear fusion plant set the stage for a high-octane warzone. Take down enemies through the wreckage in long-range combat or get up-close and personal in the tunnels surrounding the central turbine. Activate decontamination drones using the map-based scorestreak to help clean out the competition.”

Urban

“Prepare yourself for brutal, high-speed combat in Dallas Ward 3, a future mega structure, funneling players into a close-quarters free-for-all. This modular compound’s verticality unleashes the exoskeleton’s capabilities. Stay focused during the timed event as blast doors alter the map’s flow and sightlines.”

Sideshow

“In the shadow of Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, this abandoned inn’s open layout amplifies its creep factor. Blast your way through the clown inn with close-quarters battles or use long-range site-lines from the mining facilities and natural terrain. Use the map-based scorestreak to activate the lights, music, and magic of the clown marquee and rain down a barrage of rainbow smoke-trailed cannonballs.”

Drift

“An idyllic ski resort high in the Rocky Mountains is transformed into a festive high-altitude playground, perfect for an all-out firefight. Make your way to the highly contested over watch in the glass observation deck or take a ride on the carousel to deliver 360 degrees of carnage. Players can use the map-altering timed event to their advantage as an avalanche of snow and debris disorients players, intensifying the battle.”

Exo Zombies

“…features a story told through the eyes of four employees of the Atlas corporation, played by a celebrity cast consisting ofJohn Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, RED, Burn After Reading), Bill Paxton (Aliens, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow), Rose McGowan(Planet Terror, Scream), and Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Walking Dead). The actors provide their voice over and likeness in a dark and cinematic experience new to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.”

“Players enter a world where a DNA bioweapon unexpectedly spawns a bloodthirsty, ravenous mutant horde infecting an entire secret Atlas research facility and sending personnel running for their lives. Following a failed evacuation, four survivors, un-trained and underprepared, must face the most vicious mutations ever unleashed. The Exo Zombies co-op mode ushers in a new breed of Zombies and a truly unique experience, coming first to the Havoc DLC Pack.”

Call of Duty Online Public Beta Opens In China

Call of Duty Online, a free-to-play version of the most popular shooter series of all time, has landed in China as the game’s beta opens to the public.

Lead by developers at Raven Software and published by Activision and Tencent, Call of Duty Online mixes elements from both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops universes in Hero Ops single-player campaign missions, Survival Mode cooperative experiences and, of course, Call of Duty online multiplayer. In addition, exclusive to the Chinese market is a PvE mode where players face off against hordes of Cyborg enemies, similar to Treyarch’s Zombies mode. The title is free-to-play, but players are able to rent or buy in-game items to customize their loadout.

“Millions of gamers in the West have come to appreciate that white-knuckled, epic thrill-ride that only Call of Duty delivers. And now an entire new audience of gamers will experience this for the first time. We believe Call of Duty Online is going to be a game-changer for Chinese gamers,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “We’ve worked closely with our partner at Tencent, and we’ve challenged one of our most trusted and talented development teams of Raven Software to create a true Call of Duty experience tailored for the Chinese market. Throughout testing, the community feedback has been tremendous. We couldn’t be more excited and we look forward to winning the hearts and minds of a new community in China.”

While we haven’t seen it on official channels yet, a trailer for Call of Duty Online featuring Chris Evans, better known as Captain America, was spotted about one week ago. Check it out!

Latest Hi-Res Mortal Kombat Image Shows Off Kung Lao And New Stage, Comic Book Tie-in Hints At Possible New Character

The start of this year for Mortal Kombat fans has certainly been a big one, as the new year brought with it a very interesting character reveal, Kung Lao, and the first details of Mortal Kombat X’s online portion.

However, it appears that the folks over at NetherRealm Studios aren’t exactly done touting the recently revealed kombatant, as Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, has been teasing fans to be on the look out for a new hi-resolution image of the fighter.

You can check it out now, showcasing Kung Lao taking on Scorpion in a new stage:

MKX

That’s not all. Fans can also expect a video to be released very soon that will do more than just reveal the first in-game footage of Kung Lao, according to Boon, but may have a lot to do with “hell”, a word Boon has been dropping often in his recent tweets.

Furthermore, it appears that the recently released first issue of the comic book tie-in for Mortal Kombat X may have revealed a new character to the franchise, Takeda, the son of the blind swordsman, Kenshi. Apparently, Hanzo Hasashi, or better known to MK fans as Scorpion, has taken Takeda under his wing for training in the comics who seems to play a big role in the comic storyline in general so far.

Additionally, for those interested in Mortal Kombat’s lore, or just simply want to know what happens between Mortal Kombat 9 and Mortal Kombat X, I highly suggest you pick up the recently released Mortal Kombat X comics which will serve as a tie-in for the game and also tease what appears to be a major plot line to the game itself, the ‘Nether Realm Wars.’

If you do happen to pick up a copy, it should be noted that characters old and new alike featured in it won’t exactly mean that they will appear in the actual game, according to the comic’s lead writer, Shawn Kittelsen speaking to The Kombat Tether.

Mortal Kombat X is set for a April 14 release date on the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The Battlefield 4 Easter Egg Hunt Continues, Is The Paracel Storm Monster Real?

The seemingly never ending hunt for undiscovered and ever elusive easter eggs in Battlefield 4 marches on as new breakthroughs are made within the unyielding Battlefield community. In other words, we’re still looking for a giant Kraken on Paracel Storm.

New sound files discovered deep within the game’s code suggest, as have other recently discovered clues in Battlefield 4 later expansions, that “the monster is real”. We followed DICE’s previous clues and found the Megalodon, after all. Why would the “Paracel Storm Monster” be any less real?

Battlefield YouTube personality JackFrags once again provides the most recently discovered evidence in his latest video:

Entering the final week of the Halo 5: Guardians Arena Multiplayer Beta, developer 343 Industries has put in place new settings for Halo fans to test out.

Having tallied up the votes from last week’s poll, Pegasus is the new Forge-created map that will enter the Slayer playlist along with the return of Truth from the first week of the Beta.

Joining last week’s new mode, Breakout, is a new game type called Strongholds. In it, Spartans must capture and hold the majority of capture points to win. One point is earned per second for each base captured more than the enemy team. Breakout will be playable on Regret and Empire.

Remember to provide feedback on Halo 5: Guardian’s official forums to let developers know what you think about Halo’s new direction. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below as well.

Bungie Reveals Destiny’s Most Popular PvE and PvP Weapons

Compiling data over the last 14 days, developer Bungie has revealed the most popular list of primary, special, and heavy weapons put to use by players level 20 or higher.

According to Bungie’s chief resident researcher, Dr. Bunson Honeydew, in the studio’s latest weekly update, “Weapon use in Destiny is pretty diverse and follows a very fat ‘long tail’ distribution.”

“The guns on these lists are indeed awesome but a lot of players are finding that other, more obscure weapons better fit their tactical needs or their personal play styles,” he added. “Besides, punching all of the aliens in the face is obviously the correct way to play Destiny anyway.”

Here are the top 10 weapons used by Guardians level 20 and up across all activities in Destiny over the past 14 days:

Destiny’s Iron Banner Makes Its Return Mid-January, Crucible Improvements Inbound

Just as new updates are in store for Destiny’s PvE Raid experiences over the next week, Bungie is also hard at work making improvements to the game’s PvP experience with new updates coming to the Crucible in the near future.

More specifics are to come, said the studio in a recent post, but among the improvements are a few changes to the Crucible’s playlists. The maps Asylum, Anomaly, and The Burning Shrine, originally reserved for small-team modes, will be joining the rotation of maps in Clash and Control playlists.

In addition, those looking for the most competitive of experience can once again anticipate the return of the Iron Banner on January 19, including “updated rewards”.

We look forward to hearing about any addition Crucible improvements Bungie might have in store and will be sure to share them as soon as we know.

What sort of updates do you think are needed in order to improve Destiny’s PvP experience?

Incoming Destiny Update Removes Crota’s End Raid Exploits, Improves Vault of Glass Loot Drops

Developer Bungie is preparing to deploy a new update for Destiny following the holiday break that will address bugs, including exploits, in the recently released Crota’s End six-player Raid.

If you’ve yet to complete the new Hive-themed Raid legitimately, without the use of exploits, you may want to take the next week to learn how to do just that. Otherwise, those stuck in the ways of lantern-jumping across the pit, using clever ways to build the bridge, and “cheesing” Crota with disconnects are going to have a bad time. The update, landing next Tuesday on January 13, will address all known exploits that allowed Guardians to complete the raid with ease or even as a solo adventurer.

The silver lining? The patch will also make improvements to the Vault of Glass’ loot drop table, giving Guardians more incentive to revisit the deadly trials of the time-travelling Vex once again.

Here are the details:

Crota’s End – Updates
  • The existing Pit treasure chest reward moved to killing Ir Yut, the Deathsinger. She has a chance to drop Exotic weapons and armor, class pieces, and Radiant materials.
  • The Pit treasure chest will now contain Radiant Materials.

Pit Encounter

  • Removed the physics impulse caused by exploding lanterns.

Bridge Encounter

  • Players will now be required to cross the bridge in order to complete the bridge encounter.
  • Players will now be required to wait for the bridge to be completed prior to crossing with the sword.

Deathsinger Encounter

  • Fixed a rare case where the Shriekers would not spawn, preventing players from reaching the Deathsinger.

Crota Encounter

  • Two Swordbearers will no longer spawn at the same time at the outset of the encounter.
  • Crota will now recover from his kneeling state after a player quits.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to remove the “Presence of Crota” using a Radiance Warlock’s Fireborn ability.
  • Fixed a bug that made the Oversoul appear destroyed to some players in a Fireteam when it was actually still active.

Vault of Glass – Updates

  • Exotic weapon drops in the Vault of Glass are now Level 32.

No details on the launch date of the Hard Mode version of the Crota’s End Raid, though Bungie says in its latest update that “It’s almost ready.” According to the studio, players will “need to learn a new trick or two” in order to best the tougher challenge.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more word on Destiny’s latest updates.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Updates Continue In The Coming Weeks

Getting right back to work in the new year, Halo: The Master Chief Collection developer 343 Industries has announced two updates for the game that are expected to drop in the near future, one as soon as tomorrow.

The first one, arriving this Thursday, will introduce a few new Achievements for Halo 4’s Spartan Ops mode, which was added late last month, as well as for The Master Chief Collection’s multiplayer.

The studio’s next content update, scheduled for some time next week, will “address UI and a variety of other areas.” More details to come closer to release, says 343.

Still in the works are a number of additional content updates designed to compensate players affected by The Master Chief Collection’s troubled launch, including a remake of the Halo 3: ODST single-player campaign and a new Halo 2 Anniversary map, “Relic”.

A duo of new images showing off two new multiplayer maps in Visceral Games’ cops vs. criminals shooter, Battlefield Hardline, surfaced earlier today.

“Bloodout” captures a recognizable area in LA, scattered with cop cars and buildings painted with graffiti. Meanwhile, “Hollywood Hills” depicts a hill-side mansion threatened by a raging fire in the background. The map itself appears to be small-to-medium in size with plenty of opportunity for close-quarter combat scenarios.

Battlefield Hardline launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on March 17.
