H-Hour: World’s Elite – SOF is ‘Ready To Deliver a Finished Product’

SOF Studios is all set for full-on development of H-Hour: World’s Elite, a tactical third-person shooter in the vein of classic SOCOM games. The question is, what publisher will end up backing them?

Yesterday, the studio launched both a brand new gameplay trailer along with their Greenlight campaign in an effort to get voters to approve the shooter’s distribution on Steam. According to the studio during a recent live stream, the gameplay video served as a “proof of concept” for H-Hour, which they hope will publishers will take note of.

Despite a low budget, the team stated that they are fully prepared to “deliver a finished product to folks” in the coming year. They’ve spoken to some companies about picking up their game, but no final decision has been made, or at least announced yet. But judging from comments made in yesterday’s live stream, it seems that many of those who are already testing the game are enjoying it.

For those who missed the Stream or are wondering why it ended so early, there were some interferences which prompted it to end early. The stream has since been postponed for another day, with the President of SOF apologizing to everyone.

Microsoft Outlines Xbox One’s Reputation System

With the Xbox One’s new Reputation System, Microsoft aims to “match you with other gamers you’ll enjoy, and create the best gaming community online”.

Those were the words of Xbox Live program manager Micheal Dunn who detailed the console’s new reputation algorithms in a recent news update. He says that, with the Xbox One, Microsoft “redesigned the Xbox Live community-powered reputation system from Xbox 360 to help better inform players about their behavior in the community.”

“The algorithm looks to identify players that are repeatedly disruptive across the community on Xbox Live,” he continued. “The vast majority of players do not regularly receive feedback from other players and, thus, will stay at the “Good Player” reputation level.”

Here’s a breakdown of the different levels of Reputation:

  • “Good Players” – The majority of gamers will fall into this level. As we’ve said before, we have plans to introduce rewards for good behavior and look forward to sharing more in the future!
  • Warnings for “Needs Work” – Beginning this month, some players will start receiving reputation warnings as their reputations drop due to feedback from the community. The purpose of these communications is to remind players about their effect on the community and encourage them to have more positive interactions. These warnings are based on community feedback collected since Xbox One launched.
  • Penalties for “Avoid Me” – If players do not heed warnings and continue to have a negative impact on other players and the Xbox Live community, they will begin to experience penalties. For example, people with an “Avoid Me” rating will have reduced matchmaking pairings and may be unable to use certain privileges such as Twitch broadcasting.

Dunn says that the algorithm was designed to avoid penalizing players for bad reports over a few weeks of play. It also takes into consideration that some reports are false and are only issued by players through spite or for the sake of griefing. So, by the sounds of it, you won’t have to worry if you don’t cause any trouble.

In addition to the system Dunn detailed above, recent reports have indicated that Microsoft is also looking into ways to reward players for good behavior, rather than simply punishing users for bad behavior. According to Microsoft partner and development lead Frank Savage, these features will be implemented in an upcoming Xbox One system update.

What do you think of the Xbox One’s reputation system? Is it effective?

Titanfall Anticheat Now Being Enforced, Respawn Dishes Out the Details

Respawn Entertainment is now beginning to enforce anticheat measures on the PC version of Titanfall.

According to a recent news posting on the official website, the studio has been using FairFight to detect cheaters on PC and began enforcing those bans last Friday, March 21.

You can read up on the full FAQ below for specific details, but the gist of it is that cheaters will now be forced to play with other cheaters if Respawn feels a user has broken Titanfall’s code of conduct, similar to the system Rockstar adopted in Grand Theft Auto Online.

“We will be continuing to tweak the algorithm over time to catch more cheaters,” Respawn says.

FAQ

How do I know if I’m banned?

Here’s what you’d see at the Private Lobby screen:

mp_lobby0000

If you don’t see that, then you aren’t banned.

So what happens if I get banned?

Great news: you get to keep playing Titanfall! Less-great news: you only get to play with other cheaters. You can play with other banned players in something that will resemble the Wimbledon of aimbot contests. Hopefully the aimbot cheat you paid for really is the best, or these all-cheater matches could be frustrating for you. Good luck.

If I’m banned, what happens if I make a party with my non-cheater friends?

When anyone in your party is banned, then everyone in your party will be treated as banned for that play session. If you are a non-cheater and you invite a cheater friend into a party, you will be stuck playing against cheaters. If you stop inviting your cheater friend, you will once again get to play with the non-cheater population. You do not get permanently tainted just by playing with a cheater – you are only banned for cheating if you are actually cheating.

The lesson here, kids, is don’t cheat!

PvZ: Garden Warfare Xbox 360 Patch Arrives Soon, Gnome Bomb Tweaks In Next Update

Those enjoying Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare on the Xbox 360 won’t have to wait much longer for the recent issues caused by the Garden Variety add-on to be fixed.

The long awaited Xbox 360 patch for Garden Warfare has finally been approved and is set to deploy tomorrow, according to creative director, Justin Wiebe. That means those getting bored with just playing the same map repeatedly in Gardens and Graveyards can now look forward to Driftwood Shores and Main Street being added to the rotation.

Additionally, PopCap HD will also be looking into tweaking the payout for the Gnome Bomb mode in a upcoming update, as the Garden Warfare community feels that its payout is far lower than it should be.

Unfortunately, no time frame was given as to when Garden Warfare’s next update will arrive, but we do know it will improve balance in Gardens and Graveyards for the Plants.

Update

Weibe has updated followers on Twitter, saying that recent issues with the latest patch are causing a delay. “I’ve been informed that MS is planning to redeploy the patch to download,” he said. “Will let you know as soon as it’s posted.”

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike Delayed on Xbox One, In Addition to PC, ETA “Early April”

In an update to yesterday’s announcement of Naval Strike’s delay on the PC, Battlefield 4 developer DICE is now hoping to get both the PC and Xbox One versions out by early April.

According to the new statement, the studio has also decided to push back Naval Strike’s launch on the Xbox One in order to “address issues in the animation system that hinder players from engaging targets in set circumstances using popular weapon configurations.”

Check out the full update below:

“UPDATE: We wanted to provide more detail about the delay of Battlefield 4 Naval Strike. We have delayed the PC version of Naval Strike because we are concerned that the combination of the pack and planned PC updates would increase performance issues on mid-range to high-end PCs. We are working hard to resolve that issue now. Additionally, we have decided to delay the Xbox One version of Naval Strike because we want to address issues in the animation system that hinder players from engaging targets in set circumstances using popular weapon configurations.

We know that many Battlefield 4 Premium owners wanted to play Naval Strike today. However, we didn’t want to release the new content until we believed it was quality content.

We are trying to resolve these problems as quickly as possible and hope to release the update in early April for Xbox One and PC. We also want to remind Xbox One and PC owners of Battlefield 4 Premium that they will have two weeks early access for Naval Strike once it’s released. Thanks for your continued patience and passion for our games.”

Signs of trouble first appeared this morning when the Xbox One’s Battlefield 4 game update was delayed. As it stands, Battlefield 4’s ocean combat-themed Naval Strike DLC is now only available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 for Battlefield 4 Premium members.

By the looks of the last paragraph, it also appears that the non-Premium launch of Naval Strike may be pushed back in order to allow Xbox One and PC Premium members two weeks of exclusive access to the DLC.

We’ll make sure to keep you updated, so stay tuned to MP1st.

Xbox Live Interruptions Affecting Titanfall, Forza 5 Servers [Updated]

Xbox Live services are currently “limited” on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, causing issues for those trying to connect to Titanfall and Forza 5 servers.

According to Xbox Live’s status page, affected services include:

  • Accessing all game features
  • Accessing or retrieving data stored using cloud storage
  • Capturing game videos
  • Joining other Xbox Live members in online games
  • Posting game performance or viewing the performance of other Xbox Live members
  • Purchasing content bundles

The Xbox support wrote this update with regards to the outage:

“Are you finding it difficult to connect to Titanfall or Forza 5 on Xbox One? Have you been unable to purchase in-game content bundles for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Fable Trilogy, Twisted Pixel and Halo 4 on Xbox 360? We are aware of the issues and we have our team pushing to get them fixed as quickly as possible. Thanks for staying patient while we work. We’ll have another update in half an hour.”

Our hunch is that the interruption may also be responsible for the delay of the Xbox One’s latest Battlefield 4 update which is, in turn, delaying the launch of Naval Strike on that platform, though it may be a separate issue all together.

It appears that all DICE has had to say on the issue so far is that “Updates are currently rolling out in preparation for Naval Strike.”

Stay tuned for updates.

Update 1

Titanfall developer Respawn has noted that “PC users should able to connect now. Still waiting on an update for XboxOne users.”

Update 2

According to another update, “XboxOne players should be able to connect as well. Thank you for your patience!”

Titanfall Will Get Double XP Weekends, New Game Modes Will Be “Free to All”

You might already be able to earn double XP in Titanfall through the use of Burn Cards, but that doesn’t mean Respawn’s shooter won’t get its fair share of double XP weekend events.

On Twitter, studio head Vince Zampella confirmed that events rewarding players with double XP are incoming.

Earlier, we learned that brand new game modes will also be coming to Titanfall in the future. Zampella confirmed today that they will not be a part of paid DLC and will be “free to all”.

As a bit of a side note, Zampella also made it clear that the team will be tweaking the in-game “Gooser” challenge that requires players to kill 50 Pilots in the air after ejecting from their Titan.

Update

Respawn has noted in a blog update that the “Gooser” challenge is being reduced from 50 to 5.

“We went a bit too far with this challenge, especially considering the unique conditions that have to be met in order to have the opportunity to get a kill on an ejecting Pilot,” the team wrote.

“We are aware that some players have already completed the challenge or earned more than the new requirement. We plan to internally note those players so we can recognize their accomplishments in a future game update,” the studio continued.

“The change to the ‘Gooser’ challenge will go into effect in the near future as part of an upcoming patch, so you still have some time to complete the challenge as it currently stands.”

Lastly, Zampella was unable to give an ETA on the launch of private matches, but he reassured followers that they are “coming soon”.

Still looking for an Xbox One and/or Titanfall? The Xbox One Titanfall bundle is now $450 on Amazon and the Microsoft Store.

New Battlefield 4 Console Updates Roll Out, More “Netcode” Fixes and Balance Tweaks

Along with today’s launch of Battlefield 4 Naval Strike for Premium subscribers, developer DICE is rolling out a significant new game update for the console versions of the game.

The PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 are all receiving the update today, with the exception of the Xbox One patch that DICE has stated is being rescheduled with no ETA as of yet. DICE writes on the Battlelog:

“We have rescheduled the Xbox One March 25 game update, and will get back to you as soon as we can with more information on when you can expect it to be available for download.”

PC users are in a similar situation. Late last night, or early this morning, we learned that the PC launch of Naval Strike is being delayed due to recently discovered issues, as well as a bug relating to Commander Tablet. Still no ETA there either. DICE says, “Quality is our number one priority and we will not release Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC until we feel it meets the highest quality level possible”.

Battlefield 4’s social stat-tracking service, the Battlelog, also got a few updates earlier today alongside the DLC launch. You can read the full change log right here.

As for the console updates, they once again aim to improve stability and “netcode” while fixing issues like the killcam that “broke” during the last patch. It also includes a number of balance tweaks for weapons, gadgets, grenades, and vehicles. You get catch all the details below, which are consistent across all four platforms.

BF4 March 25 Xbox One / Xbox 360 / PS4 / PS3 Patch Notes

General Fixes

  • General stability improvements
  • Fix for a crash that could occur when players were customizing vehicles.
  • Fix for an issue in the Rush game mode where end-of-round screen would always indicate that there were 60 minutes left of the game.
  • Fix for an issue where the splash damage for IFV shells, Helicopter rockets, and Mortar rounds was unable to destroy deployed equipment.
  • Fix for an issue that could cause the quad bike to explode when it hit indestructible objects.
  • Fix for an issue that would cause sniper rifles to display too much bloom when aiming in snowy conditions, especially the outside areas of Operation Locker.
  • Fix for an issue where the ECM would sometimes fail to jam incoming missiles.
  • Shortened the take-off distances for jets to match the length of the runways in Second Assault maps.
  • Fix for going above ceiling exploits in Operation Metro.
  • Fix for a new MAV riding exploit.
  • Fix for kill camera jittering/strobing sometimes if colliding with other world objects or terrain.
  • Fix for soldiers getting catapulted when walking on steep surfaces

“Netcode”

  • Fix for an issue where the kill camera would display the incorrect killer.
  • Fix for an issue where the kill card won’t show up when playing on servers which have the kill camera turned off.
  • Fixed an issue where other soldiers would appear to fire in the wrong direction when turning quickly.
  • Fix for weapons firing twice, or not at all in some instances.
  • Fix for an issue where explosions didn’t do any damage to infantry and vehicles that were outside of the combat area.
  • Fix for an issue where late-joining players wouldn’t correctly experience Levolution events on Paracel Storm and Flood Zone.
  • Fix for an issue that could cause packet loss.

Progressions

  • Added Gold Battlepacks as rewards for Class Service Stars, allowing players that have reached the max Rank to continue earning new Battlepacks.

Weapons / Gadget Tweaks

  • Increased the damage of the normal buckshot against targets with Body Armor.
  • Reduced the vertical recoil of the M4 and M16A4 to give these burst fire weapons a tighter burst accuracy in their mid- to long range role.
  • Reduced the side-to-side and first shot recoil of the G36C. This weapon now has the lowest side-to-side recoil of the carbines, giving it a clear controllable low rate of fire role, especially when compared to the AK5C, Type-95B-1 and the AKU-12.
  • Tweaked the detonation time of the 40mm LVG so it bounces less before going off. The maximum damage has however been reduced to 80 like the RGO.
  • Reduced the number of how many 40mm HE and LVG rounds players can carry, from 4 to 3.
  • Increased the time it takes to get new 40mm round from ammo boxes. The time is longer for HE and LVG grenades and shorter for utility grenades like SMK and FLASH.

Grenade Tweaks

  • Increased the time it takes to get new RGO IMPACT, V40 MINI, M84 FLASHBANG and M18 SMOKE grenades from ammo boxes. Since the player now carries more of these grenades, the resupply delay needed to be longer to prevent grenade spamming.

Vehicle Tweaks

  • Significantly improved the suppression from mounted vehicle weapons, including miniguns, HMGs, LMGs, and all shells types for all armored vehicles.

Aircraft Tweaks

  • Further reduced the repair rate for the Scout Helicopters and the Transport Helicopters.
  • Significantly increased the damage of Transport Helicopter miniguns.
  • Changed the flight ceilings on Gulf of Oman, Caspian Border and Operation Firestorm to better match the height of the structures in those levels.
  • Adjusted the damage of the 25mm and 30mm cannons for both Stealth Jets and Mobile AA to be equal in Damage Per Second to the 20mm default weapons. These weapons were clearly poorer choices in all circumstances, and their different rates of fire are intended to be the player’s choice factor for these weapon systems.

AC-130 Gunship Tweaks

  • Increased the splash damage and the range at which the JDAM bombs can achieve max splash damage. The JDAM’s power was not properly balanced with its difficulty to use. The JDAM remains a primarily anti-vehicle weapon, though this change will increase the effectiveness against all targets.
  • Increased the accuracy and direct hit damage of the AC130 40mm cannons. 40mm cannons can now be used to fire pinpoint shots in 2-3 round bursts, enabling them to provide accurate fire on infantry and vehicle targets. Their velocity has also been marginally increased to aid their accuracy.
  • Increased the splash damage and range of the AC130 25mm cannons. These cannons now do approximately 50% more damage, in a slightly increased area of impact. The increased damage as well as increased suppression effects will allow the 25mm cannon to fill its role as an area of effect weapon against infantry.

Keep your sights on MP1st for updates on the PC and Xbox One patches.

Star Wars: Battlefront – EA Hopes To Emulate Success of Batman Arkham Games

With Star Wars: Battlefront, a highly anticipated Star Wars-themed shooter in development at the same studio responsible for the Battlefield franchise, DICE hope to recapture what makes Lucasfilms’ epic space saga so iconic.

In that sense, DICE and EA aim to reproduce the same success Warner Bros. has enjoyed with its Batman Arkham games.

“What Warner Bros. did with Batman was take the core roots of that IP and manifest that inside the walls of Gotham City and delivered an interactive experience that had real ties to what you would see in the films and what you had read in the comics, while having its own life because it could provide such deep and more immersive storylines,” Electronic Arts CEO Wilson recently told Fortune. “When we look at the Star Wars properties that’s how we’re looking at it.”

Battlefield 4 developers DICE signed on to EA’s 10-year contract with Disney, along with Visceral and BioWare, to “develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines”. In his interview, Wilson reiterated that EA is not interested in replicating any of the Star Wars stories told in the films, but is instead focused on creating new content.

Star Wars: Battlefront is expected some time in Summer 2015.

Are you a fan of the Batman Arkham games? Did they reproduce the Batman universe in a satisfactory manner?

Thanks, GameSpot.

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike DLC Delayed on PC, No ETA [Updated]

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike won’t be coming to PC tomorrow.

On the Battlelog, developer DICE announced that the studio has decided to delay the launch of Battlefield 4’s ocean combat-themed Naval Strike multiplayer expansion on the PC after discovering an issue. They also intend to hold off on release until work on a “larger update” is complete.

Here’s the note in their own words:

“However, we are delaying the launch of Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC. We’ve detected an issue and it needs to be solved. Quality is our number one priority and we will not release Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC until we feel it meets the highest quality level possible. We are also working on a larger update to release alongside Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC that will address the issue of Tablet Commander not working correctly. Once we have a confirmed date for PC, we’ll be sure to update those players on our official channels. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing everyone on the Battlefield.”

It appears that the expansion’s launch on consoles is going according to schedule, so Premium members on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3 will be able to get their hands on the new content in only a matter of hours.

Our hunch is that the delay might be attributed to the recently discovered security exploit that was directly linked to Battlefield 4’s Commander Mode causing servers to crash.

We’ll be sure to forward any updates from the studio, so keep your sights on MP1st.

Update

In an update to DICE’s previous statement, the studio now tells us that PC and Xbox One users can expect Naval Strike to launch in “early April”.

Rumor – Battlefield 4 Rent-a-Server Coming to Consoles April 1 [Updated]

According to recent reports, Battlefield 4 developer DICE will be offering console owners the opportunity to rent private servers come April 1.

This image captured by Reddit user 90ONE displays three different server rental options; 7 days for £8.99, 30 days for £28.99, and 90 days £63.99, all available April 1, 2014.

The last we heard, an EA representative mentioned that server rentals would be available for console owners soon. DICE has yet to announce an official launch date, however.

An April fools prank? Probably. But not a particularly funny one, if that. Stay tuned for updates.

Update

After some additional digging, we found a similar image that appeared on Twitter earlier this month. Though it looks similar, it displays a November 22, 2013 date, instead of April 1, 2014. Others claim to have seen the image even earlier, suggesting that it is, indeed, fake.
