COD: Ghosts Onslaught DLC Video Pits Michael Myers Against Maniac Juggernaut

Who would win in a fight? Michael Myers, or Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ Maniac Juggernaut killstreak?

A recent “in-depth” video from Call of Duty YouTube personality Drift0r pits the two together, measuring their health, running speed, and killing efficiency.

Michael Myers is a brand new Field Order reward introduced in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ first multiplayer DLC, Onslaught. Completing a Field Order on the horror movie-inspired map Fog will earn you the chance to turn into the iconic villain, granting you extra health and movement speed as you relentlessly axe your opponents down with swift melee attacks.

Given his superhuman abilities, we couldn’t help but wonder how he would fare against Ghosts’ Maniac Juggernaut killstreak who happens to have similar characteristics. Check out the video above to find out who wins!

To learn more about Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Onslaught DLC, be sure to catch our video preview with gameplay from all four new maps, including new Extinction content. You can also check out more Michael Myers action below from some known Call of Duty commentators who were also at Infinity Ward’s preview event.

Latest Killer Instinct Patch Reportedly Causing Issues, New Classic Skins For Glacius and Sabrewulf Available

Killer Instinct’s 1.3 GB patch is reportedly causing headaches for a number of players.

As reported on Double Helix’s forums, a handful of Killer Instinct players are being mistakenly sent to ‘jail’, a punishment originally meant for “rage quitters”, due to their opponent disconnecting from a match.

For those who are unfamiliar with the  recent jail feature, it punishes player who quit out of a match early by making them play against other quitters for the next 24 hours. Those players’ Gamertags are then highlighted with jail bars, indicating their status.

Furthermore, it’s also being reported that with the launch of the recent update, players are experiencing de-syncs and console freezes during ranked matches. Unfortunately, experiencing either of those issues will send you to jail, according to reports.

At the moment, Double Helix is currently looking into the issue, says Killer Instinct producer, Michael Willette.

All issues aside, Killer Instinct players can now also look forward to using the classic alternate costumes and accessories for both Glacius and Sabrewulf. Check out the new items below:

[youtube id=”N6mogQGKpMI”]

[youtube id=”uZDXS48-GHU”]

Lastly, Killer Instinct players should know that the free-to-play character has been switched to Orchid until this Saturday. So if you’ve yet to fork out any cash for the game but want to try out a new character, be sure to hop on before then.

Have you been affected by this unfortunate bug since the latest patch?

Report – Laid Off EA Contractors Out Unannounced Police-Themed Battlefield Game

According to reports, recently laid off contractors stationed at EA’s Ghost Games studio were offered positions at Visceral Games to aid with production on a new police-themed Battlefield game, code-named Havana.

Ghost Games, formerly known as EA Gothenburg, were responsible for last year’s Need for Speed: Rivals and are said to be working on another Need for Speed game as they now lead the franchise.

“Ghost is now leading Need for Speed and there will certainly be some announcements about how that will evolve and work in the near future,” Marcus Nilsson, executive producer on the game, told Polygon. “Criterion is doing something else, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help us on this.”

Last we heard of Criterion Games, the studio was rumored to be working on a brand new Battlefield spin off to release during EA’s 2015 financial year, which would likely translate to a release this Fall.

“We spoke with management on Thursday afternoon, and although they have not yet announced a version of Battlefield for FY15, they confirmed that our understanding is spot on and that if a version of Battlefield were to be released in FY15, it would be developed by a studio other than DICE,” Wedbush Morgan analyst Pachter said.

According to Polygon’s sources, that spin off could be a police-themed Battlefield game in development at Visceral Games, due out this year.

Are Open-World Survival Games the Next Big Thing?

There’s a storm of new games coming to market this year promising to recreate life in a massive multiplayer online fantasy world.

With such high ambition, gamers around are craving and anticipating a new generation of games to play and Open World Survival MMOs look to be those games. But how confident can we be that they’ll offer gamers the experiences they’re really looking for and not just empty promises?

If the recent outcry over Titanfall only supporting 12 players per match is proof of anything, it’s that gamers are expecting more for their money than ever before.  For most gamers, “next-gen” also seems to imply more things to do with limitless gameplay experiences.  When you see things like Minecraft’s continued success or DayZ selling a million copies of it’s Alpha release in a month, it’s clear that what’s considered popular in games is shifting away from the arena/arcade shooter to open world games, survival or otherwise.

[youtube id=”CdWwhWxfmvE”]

The Division is a great example of old and new ideas of popular game design coming together to form something new.  Yes, Defiance was an MMO with guns too, but it was also just another MMO with poor support and lots of bugs that were never fixed.  The Division aims to blend aspects of teamwork that are possible in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield with the openness and scale of the MMO genre.  Hopefully it’ll be as good as it promises to be because it’s essentially creating a whole new genre of multiplayer games.  Where games like Nether and DayZ suffer from players ignoring the survival aspect of the game’s design and acting out their own murder fantasies, The Division is making it clear that it intends to keep players working together to confront other players and handle objectives, not running around treating the game like a murder simulator.

Destiny might not be a survival game in any sense, but again, openness and scale are the name of the game when it comes to Bungie’s upcoming shared-world shooter.  With mesh-based networking technologies that have been in the works at the studio for years, Bungie aims to keep millions of players moving through the world with seamless loading transitions, something that hasn’t been done in a console shooter to this day.

At the end of the day it’s clear that gamers are demanding bigger and better experiences from developers and that open world games, especially open world survival games, are the most talked about titles so far this year.  It makes perfect sense that they might one day soon be taking the top spots in sales, but it also makes perfect sense that their openness is going to leave players bored and uninterested because they don’t have anything to “do” in the way of missions or competitive matches, save for Destiny’s case.

Hopefully game creators like Dean Hall and Ubisoft can find ways to get players working together instead of hunting each other down for no reason other than there’s nothing better to do. If done right, and if games like DayZ, The Division and Destiny prove their worth, open-world games might have a very bright future in store.

PvZ: Garden Warfare’s Split-Screen Mode Runs At 30 FPS, Certain Unlockables Tied To Gameplay

In a recent interview, senior franchise marketing manager for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Gary Clay revealed some interesting bits of information regarding the upcoming third-person Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC shooter.

Clay revealed that despite running at 60 frames per second on the Xbox One, those who plan on playing Garden Warfare’s platform-exclusive split-screen co-op mode will see a drop in frames to 30.

Clay added that the 40-person development team may implement a split-screen co-op mode for the Xbox 360 platform as well, saying, “nothing is impossible. It would take our engineers a significant amount of time to make it work, but we’re always listening to the community.”

Furthermore, Clay went on to say to mention that PopCap has equipped Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare with a extensive customization options and a deep upgrade system which are all showcased in this new video below:

[youtube id=”NFku-BpTnb0″]

Earning these sweet cosmetic accessories, weapon upgrades, and character models like the future-themed Cactus is as simple as opening a sticker pack in the game store which is earned by accumulating coins. Also, everything you do in Garden Warfare nets you coins, from healing your team mates to killing zombies.

Sticker packs range from 1,500 coins, which will usually contain reinforcements, to the more costly packs that can cost upward of 50,000 coins, containing nothing but character parts, five of which are needed to unlock a new character variant.

Those who don’t have the time to grind out for coins to unlock stuff in Garden Warfare can opt out and purchase coins via micro-transactions, but it should be noted that players can earn on average about 15,000 – 18,000 coins per hour. This number does not reflect the coins earned by jackpots or other bonuses, noted Clay.

He also made it clear that buying coin packs with real money would not turn the game into a “pay-to-win” title. Everything is unlockable through strictly gameplay. In fact, some items can only be unlocked by playing the game.

Lastly, similar to Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer DLC, all future DLC for Garden Warfare will be available for free.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will launch on February 25 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms, with the PC platform receiving the title at a later date.

Thanks, Polygon.

Report – New Cheaper Xbox One Model To Come In 2014

It looks like there may be more weight to the rumors of a new and cheaper Xbox One model releasing before 2015.

According to VG247, Microsoft has told trusted publishing partners that before the end of the year, they will release a new and cheaper model of the Xbox One which currently holds a price tag of $499.99 USD.

Upon releasing this new and cheaper model of the Xbox One, Microsoft is more than likely to drop the price of the current Xbox One to compete with the Playstation 4’s $399.99 USD price tag, the source claims.

Unfortunately, the source wasn’t able to confirm whether or not the new model would be the rumored disc-less Xbox One model that’s been said to be in the works over at Microsoft.

For those who haven’t purchased a Xbox One yet, would you be willing to wait a few months longer to purchase a cheaper model?

Battlefield 4 – These Popular Balancing Requests Are Being “Monitered”, But Not Changed

Battlefield 4 developers want you to know that they are listening when it comes to your feedback.

But while you may have your ideas about what weapons should be “nerfed” or what vehicles should be “buffed”, the studio wants you to consider that some things are the way they are for a reason.

In a recent Battlefield Blog update, DICE compiled a list of balancing items that are frequently questioned by the community when it comes to their effectiveness, but may not be seeing a change any time soon. Though the team is open to tweaking these popular items, it might be worth reading up on some of the reasonings behind why DICE believes they are working as designed.

“Right now, we are currently thinking of the items below as working as designed, but we are open to suggestions and comments,” the studio writes.

Check out the full list below:

BALANCING ITEMS DICE IS MONITORING

1) Players have suggested that the TV missiles be allowed to 1 hit kill enemy aircraft. While we initially considered increasing their damage to 90% from 80%, we decided against this change. The TV missile is not intended to be an anti-aircraft weapon system, and while skilled players may currently be able to use it that way, we do not find its current damage level to be imbalanced.

2) Players have also suggested that Sniper Rifle and 12G SLUG rounds be allowed to penetrate body armor at close range. The purpose of body armor is to specifically counter these kinds of threats, and players with these weapons have received significant buffs to accuracy to allow them to achieve close range headshots with higher frequency. Finally, the goal of 12G SLUGS is a long range alternative for shotguns, players wishing to defeat body armor at close range with shotguns should utilize the 12G FLECHETTE rounds instead.

3) As a capable all around weapon, players have suggested the GALIL ACE 23 is over powered. Players of specific types, especially competitive players, will gravitate towards a weapon that can work in any situation. The ACE 23 is out performed at close range, long range, and has competitors at medium range. We see no need for a change at this time.

4) Below Radar has been a hot topic, asking why it was “removed” from BF4. Below Radar was never a part of the original design for BF4’s locking mechanics, and while we have discussed allowing a low altitude state to cause lock on to take longer, the added frustration of being unable to lock on to targets does not offset the added danger to helicopters at low altitude. Furthermore, having a low altitude state only affect PASSIVE or ACTIVE radar missiles would add additional confusion, as it did in BF3 when stingers still worked on Below Radar vehicles.

5) Long Range scopes for DMRs were tested extensively internally before release. We specifically removed these scopes from those weapons as we found any class being able to effectively snipe was detrimental to the overall pace and gameplay of BF4. We have no intentions of adding those scopes to DMRs for BF4.

6) As a guaranteed get out of jail free card, aircraft counter measures are only designed to allow a vehicle to escape distant danger, not to enable the aircraft to be immune to lock on weaponry. While this is a tricky balance, we’re currently happy with the reload times and amounts of counter measures carried by aircraft.

7) MAA is too powerful against the AC130 and other ground vehicles. The reduction to the range of the MAA cannons should address the issue of the AC130, and at this time we feel that the balance between MAA and other ground vehicles is appropriate.

8) Ground destruction makes vehicle driving difficult after significant combat. We’re happy that the dynamic aspect of BF4 has a direct impact on the gameplay, and at the moment do not think this is in need of any tweaks.

9) Some players have been disappointed in the rate of fire of the G36C carbine, citing it being different from BF3. We understand the feelings of fans when their favorite gun doesn’t work in the same way it was before, however BF4 is its own game, with its own balance, and all weapons received various changes and balance factors. We do not intend to change the rate of fire of the G36C.

10) Attack helicopter maneuverability is also a hot topic. We’re open to the idea that the Attack Helicopters could benefit from an increase in speed and maneuverability. At the moment, we’ve made tweaks to the primary threats for Attack Helicopters, and we want to see how that change affects the battlefield before we make additional changes blindly.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree, or do believe some of these items still require tweaks?

Thanks, Katana67!

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost Releases For The PS3 And It’ll Probably Never Be Localized

A game that many of you probably don’t even know about, and that’s due to the fact that it’s a Japan exclusive, released today on the PlayStation 3.

It’s such a shame that the title will never be localized, so why in the world am I even covering it? Well honest truth, I’m importing it over as it’ll be the first import review we have on our site. I own the previous installment, Extreme Vs. and I have to say it’s easily one of the best fighters out there.  This also goes without saying that it has some of the most easiest controls out there and the menu’s themselves are practically in English or take little to no effort to figure them out. Oh, and I’m also a huge Gundam fan 😛

Here’s some gameplay of Extreme Vs. that I recorded a bit ago to get an idea of how crazy the gameplay can be (well it’s actually even better with the improvements added)

[youtube id=”unmIQIEJMr0″]

Trailer for Full Boost.

[youtube id=”yn4iGqDLsUo”]

This is probably the only fighter title out there that features OVER 90 playable characters.

Be on the look out for my review sometime in February.

It should be noted that these changes are not final, as Capcom is open to tweak the characters as many times as they can based from the feedback they receive from location tests, in order to provide a fully balanced game once it releases this summer.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available first as an expansion DLC for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition owners for $14.99 USD on June. Those who’d rather get their hands on a physical copy of the game will have to wait until August.
