A Physical Release For Killer Instinct Is Possible, According To Microsoft Creative Director

Killer Instinct fans who prefer physical copies of their games over digital should be happy to know their wish may come true with Double Helix’s Xbox One-exclusive free-to-play fighter — eventually.

According to Microsoft’s creative director, Adam Isgreen, who revealed the news during a Play XBLA stream last Thursday, a physical version of Killer Instinct may come to fruition. However, a disc-based version of the game is a long way away, as Isgreen revealed that, at the earliest, fans won’t see it until season 2 of Killer Instinct is finished, meaning that it wouldn’t become a reality until sometime in 2015.

If a physical copy of the game does become available, participants of various Killer Instinct tournaments wouldn’t have to worry about Xbox One’s DRM notification randomly appearing and interrupting them during the middle of a match. This would no longer happen:

[youtube id=”ByIzDRdHxIw”]

Furthermore, fans of Killer Instinct can expect tweaks and balances to be made to the season 1 cast of characters before season 2 goes underway.

Double Helix has also revealed numerous upcoming changes to Killer Instinct which will start going live this month.

Battlefield 4 Maps In Real Life

Ever wonder how strictly Battlefield 4‘s multiplayer maps are based off of real world locations?

You’d be surprised with a few of these real life comparisons that we stumbled upon.

Major Kudos to Redditor SuperJoeBros who has compiled an entire Imgur album of real world images that correlate almost exactly with the majority of Battlefield 4’s multiplayer maps.

A few locations like Dawnbreaker, Flood Zone, Hainan Resort, and Operation Locker were missing, so we did a bit of Googling and found a few images that matched as best we could. It seems we’re a bit out of luck when it comes to maps like Flood Zone and Operation Locker, though we do know the the penitentiary featured in Operation Locker is located in the Kunlun Mountains.

Check out what we got below and, if you’re interested, you can check out an older but similar post for Battlefield 3’s multiplayer maps right here.

Strike Vector Launches January 28, New Screens and Beta Code Giveaway

Ragequit Corporation has announced Strike Vector‘s approach to its launch on Steam next week.

On January 28, the Quake/Unreal Tournament-inspired aerial PC shooter will close its doors on the currently ongoing beta, over 16,000 players strong, and will officially launch on the PC for $24.90.

Included in the price tag is “unlimited access to all the additional content” that the studio plans to regularly pump out during the game’s lifespan, including new maps, game modes, and ship parts, according to the press release.

Currently, the game sports four different game modes, eight gigantic industrial sci-fi battle arenas, and eight deadly weapons with additional content coming in the following weeks.

With a week left of beta testing, we’re giving away a few entrance codes courtesy of the team over at Ragequit Corporation. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and visit our Facebook page for details!

Microsoft Offers $10 Xbox Gift Card With Titanfall Pre-Orders

Today, Microsoft reveals a new Titanfall pre-order incentive through the Microsoft store.

Those who pre-order Titanfall for either the Xbox One or Xbox 360 will receive a digital Xbox Live Gift Card worth $10 USD once the game is available on March 11.

Unfortunately for PC players, the incentive appears exclusive to Xbox. However, pre-ordering the game from GameStop on any platform will net you an exclusive collectible poster, if that’s your jam.

Oddly, though you can pre-order the Xbox 360 version of the game, we’ve yet to learn exactly who the developers behind the project are, and we’ve yet to actually see it in action as of this writing.

Also, if you’ve been eyeing up Microsoft’s official Titanfall-themed Wireless Xbox One Controller, there’s still a chance to snag yourself one for free by visiting Major Nelson’s blog. There are currently two more days left open in his give-away contest, so be sure to act quick.

Titanfall recently received a technical test which gave a select few individuals a first taste of the upcoming sci-fi shooter. However, those itching for some hands-on time before release might get their chance as an open beta for the title is still a possibility, according to Respawn’s community manager.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Live Action Onslaught DLC Trailer – “CODNapped”

It’s time for The Replacers to step aside. Infinity Ward and Activision would like to introduce the “CODNappers”, your new saviors with one goal: to get you all the “Call of Duty time” you need.

Clearly inspired by the work of movie director Christopher Nolan, “CODNapped” is a live action Call of Duty: Ghosts trailer where “the CODnapper and his team of associates rescue unsuspecting fans from their ‘to do’ lists and everyday chores and deliver them to an oasis known as ONSLAUGHT, the first downloadable content pack available for Call of Duty: Ghosts.”

Check out the nearly 5-minute video in the featured section above.

Onslaught launches first on Xbox Live January 28, introducing four new multiplayer maps, Fog, Bay View, Containment, and Ignition, a re-imagining of Modern Warfare 2’s Scrapyard. Players will also get access to a brand new hybrid weapon platform that fills the role of both an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, as well as some brand new Extinction action with Episode 1: Nightfall.

If you missed it, you can catch the overview video with Infinity Ward developers right here, as well as some high-res screens of the new content.

Update

Kudos to MP1st reader “HenryDF” for this interesting find at the 4:06 mark. Some sort of Extinction tie-in?

Battlefield 4 Second Assault Allegedly Coming To Other Platforms ‘Late February’

Battlefield 4‘s Second Assault DLC may soon see the light of day on platforms other than the Xbox One.

According to a chat that Origin user “Dhruv” had with an EA Customer Experience representative, the multiplayer add-on that launched on Microsoft’s next-gen platform last October through a timed-exclusivity deal may arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC late February.

BedvT3wCYAA7SCh

As the representative noted, the DLC will launch first for Premium members, eventually making its way to non-subscribers two weeks later.

Second Assault brings back to life four fan-favorite Battlefield 3 maps; Operation Métro, Operation Firestorm, Caspian Border, and Gulf of Oman. Originally, news of the expansion’s eventual launch on other platforms was few and far between and was later presumably put on hold after DICE’s announcement to put off all future Battlefield 4 projects until the game’s core issues were addressed.

Still, we’ve no official word from either DICE or EA regarding Second Assault’s Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC launch, so this mention in an EA support chat is all we currently have to go by. We’ll be sure to update you should we hear from either party.

Super Street Fighter IV PC Mod Implements Upcoming ‘Ultra’ Changes

Though the next installment of Street Fighter IV might still be months away, it doesn’t mean you can’t put some time into in practicing for all of the upcoming changes in the Ultra edition due out this Summer.

Street Fighter IV PC modder “KingBlackToof” has put some serious time in creating this mod for Super Street Fighter IV and has managed to bring forth many of the character and gameplay mechanic changes that will be featured in Ultra Street Fighter IV, including the brand new red-focus feature and more.

It should be noted, however, that the PC mod is generally the same build on which the Capcom Cup tournament was played, which happens to be a few weeks old. There have been numerous balance tweaks made since then. This mod also does not include four of the five revealed characters (Elena, Hugo, Poison and Rolento) that are to be added in the Ultra edition.

KingBlackToof did up a demonstration video showing you how to install the mod, which you can view below:

[youtube id=”JMQ0KFsh3DI”]

Ultra Street Fighter IV is set to launch first as a DLC expansion for Super Street Fighter IV players for $14.99 USD in July with a physical disc version to be made available in August.

What changes are you looking forward to in Ultra Street Fighter IV?

Halo 4 Playlist Update Introduces Paintball, Energy Sword King of the Hill, Team DLC, and More

343 Industries are injecting a bit of fun into Halo 4 with a recent playlist update that introduces some exciting new game modes.

Plasma Pistol Paintball and some crazy variations on game modes like Capture the Flag and King of the Hill are all a part of this Monday’s playlist update.

On a more straight forward note, Team DLC introduces two weeks of team-based modes, including Slayer, King of the Hill, Extraction, SWAT, Snipers, Ricochet, Regicide, and Oddball variants on some of the game’s more popular DLC maps. Check out the full list below:

  • Skyline
  • Monolith
  • Landfall
  • Daybreak
  • Harvest
  • Vertigo
  • Pitfall

Team Doubles is also getting updated to reflect the community’s vote on a King of the Hill playlist on the following maps:

  • Haven
  • Abandon
  • Simplex
  • The Ark
  • Fallout
  • Pitfall
  • Skyline

Over on the Action Sack playlist is where you’ll find some of this week’s more lively updates, however.

Paintball is a Plasma-Pistol-One-Hit-Kill game mode played on a colorful speedball-inspired map created with the help of Forger “petetheduck”. Here, jump height is reduced and players only have one life per round.

Husky Raid condenses all the Capture-the-Flag action you could want into a single tight space. Teams spawn in with random weapons at their flag that is directly opposite to the enemy’s flag on a single platform. From there, it’s a 4 vs. 4 clash of head-on battles on a single lane in this tug-of-war-style game mode. With the help of “The Fated Fire”, 343 was able to bring this popular, albeit hectic, mode to Halo 4′ matchmaking.

Clang of the Hill, originally designed by “SNIPE 316”, equips players with only an Energy Sword and a Thruster Pack as two teams of 4 battle it out in this King-of-the-Hill game mode.

If you’re looking for a good time this week with some of your pals, now might be a good time to hop on Halo 4 and try out some of these wonky new modes. Which one will you be trying out first?

Killer Instinct – Online Lobbies Delayed, Ultra Edition Owners To Receive Spinal Early

Some good news surfaces for those who are holding off on purchasing any characters or editions of Double Helix’s fighting game, Killer Instinct.

During a Play XBLA stream this past Thursday, the studio said that they plan on increasing the frequency of switching up the free playable character from a monthly basis to a weekly basis for the free-to-play version of the title. Alongside switching the free playable character more often, they will also be releasing accessory packs each week.

However, as much as Killer Instinct fans have to look forward to this month. It looks like the long awaited addition of an online lobby will be seeing a slight delay. Originally, it was set to launch later this month. Now, according to Adam Isgreen, the creative director over at Microsoft, it will be featured alongside the March update that will include Arcade mode.

Despite this setback, Killer Instinct players are still on track to receive Spinal this month, the first of two DLC characters for Season 1 of Killer Instinct, with Fulgore being the second character to be released at a later date. Both DLC characters will come with 15 new achievements and will be available first for Ultra Edition owners, according to one of the game’s producers.

Speaking of Spinal, Double Helix has noted that those who face off against the skeletal fighter should be wary of their health bars as it’s implied that he’s able to leech of his opponents’ health. That would explain the mysterious green skull (pictured above) on top of him, as shown in the recent images that were released.

Furthermore, those who have access to the exclusive character Shadow Jago can look forward to the possibility of him having his own move set in the near future.

Which character would you like to see made available as the next free playable character?

Evolve Hunters – Meet the Medic Class

Meet Val of the Medic class, the latest Hunter to join Evolve’s cast of characters who’ll be taking on the mighty Goliath and other monsters like it.

Over the last week, we were introduced to Markov of the Assault class, Griffin of the Trapper class, and Hank of the Support class.

Today, GameInformer introduces one of the characters available to the Medic class, Val.

She’s a badass, Medgun-wielding Medic who can revive and heal fellow Hunters with ease in an effect similar to that of the Medic’s healing tool in Team Fortress 2, for reference.

Her capabilities go beyond simply healing, however. Val also carries an Anti-Material Rifle that can be used to highlight and expose enemy weak points. When other Hunters fire at limbs highlighted by Val’s rifle, they’ll score extra damage, which can be especially devastating when aiming at the head.

In addition, her Tranquillizer Rifle can slow enemies while highlighting their position, similar to the Trapper’s abilities.

Lastly, every Medic is equipped with a Healing Burst that will partially but instantaneously heal teammates within its effective radius.

Ultimately, Medic players will need to balance their tactics between keeping everyone’s health topped off and highlighting or slowing down Monsters.

Of all the classes revealed so far, which one holds your interest the most? Let us know in the comments!
