SOE Confirms EverQuest Next For PlayStation 4, PlanetSide 2’s Release Window Narrowed

President of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley, has announced EverQuest Next‘s launch on the PlayStation 4.

In a recent Reddit “Ask Me Almost Anything” Q&A today, he confirmed rumors of the next iteration of the popular PC MMORPG being in development for the PlayStation 4.

“Yes,” he said. “We will absolutely be bringing EQN to the PlayStation 4!”

Smedley previously hinted that EverQuest Next on the PS4 would be a possibility, though nothing was set in stone until today.

[youtube id=”Dh_0neHhR0k”]

Additionally, for those who have been patiently awaiting PlanetSide 2‘s for the PS4, you’ll be happy to know that the team has narrowed the game’s launch window to release within the first half of this year.

“First half of this year is what we’re shooting for,” Smedly confirmed. “It’s taking time to do this right but coming along great.”

Rumor – Titanfall Beta Incoming, According to Origin

A Titanfall beta might be in the works, according to a recent notification on EA’s gaming client, Origin.

Earlier today, upon visiting the official Titanfall page on Origin, a small notification in the top left corner could be spotted, reading, “The beta is coming. Prepare for battle.”

Screen Shot 2014-01-24 at 10.50.32 AM

The notification has since been removed, indicating that someone may have jumped the gun on the announcement.

Originally, Respawn Entertainment community manager Abbie Heppe mentioned the possibility of a beta, but wasn’t able to make a confirmation at the time. This came shortly after the game’s Xbox One-exclusive limited technical test earlier last week.

As of this writing, we’ve yet to hear an official announcement on the matter, but we’ll be sure to let you know if one is made.

Thanks, Doug, for the tip!

Update

User Mdowz who had a conversation with an EA support representative learned that the alleged beta’s release date “is not yet fixed but it will be launching very soon”.

Titanfall Story Will Have an Ending, ‘You’ll Need to Play It From Both Sides’

Respawn Enertainment’s upcoming sci-fi shooter Titanfall may be a multiplayer-only title, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have some sort of story attached to all the action.

“Titanfall will most definitely have an ending. It’s not a story if it doesn’t have an ending, but there are multiple sides to that story,” said senior map designer Mohammad Alavi in an interview with XB1. “It’s told from both the Militia and IMC perspectives, and to fully grasp Titanfall’s campaign, you’ll need to play it from both sides. And as with any good story, we’ve hopefully peppered it with enough detail and nuance that you’ll notice something new every time you replay it.”

In Titanfall, the story will play out through the multiplayer campaign, as there is no traditional single-player experience as you’d find with most modern day shooters. Alavi talked about why the studio went this route and excluded Titanfall’s single player.

“Most consumers play the single-player campaign of any shooter only once, and then go on to play multiplayer for months or years,” he said. “Single player campaigns take hundreds of thousands of hours to develop, and with a team as small as ours we couldn’t afford to sink that kind of development time into a four to eight hour journey people will only play once. What we’re hoping to achieve is to take an exciting cinematic experience and weave it into multiplayer gameplay so compelling, that players will continue to be engrossed in the universe of Titanfall for months and years after its release.”

Alavi then went into more details, explaining exactly how the experience will play out when you boot up Titanfall for the first time.

“So we’ve only really spoken about one way to play Titanfall. That’s Campaign Multiplayer. You can join a lobby by yourself or with a party, but here’s where it gets different. You and your party or enlisted into a faction, either IMC or Militia. You’ll play the campaign and progress through the narrative hitting the missions in order until you’ve beaten the game on that faction. You’ll then have the option to play through again from the beginning on the other faction. Once you’ve beaten the game from both sides, you’ll be able to play any mission on either faction you like. There are traditional modes as well that you’d expect from a multiplayer FPS game and you can start playing those from the first time you run the game. No matter what you play, you earn XP and progress.”

Titanfall launches on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on March 11. A multiplayer beta before hand is still a possibility, but isn’t confirmed.

New Titanfall Promotion Spotted, Can You Solve The Puzzle?

A new Titanfall promo discovered in the UK offers up some pretty sweet Titanfall-related prizes

Over in the United Kingdom, clever Reddit users have spotted a new “glitch” in a popular Xbox One ad, which shows a bit of binary code and leads to mysterious site.

Once there, anyone who is willing to take up the challenge must agree to the terms and conditions before moving forward. Doing so will grant you access to the second part of the contest, where you’ll have to figure out more binary code.

Winners of the contest will receive lots of goodies, as the rules state a total of 182 participants will be chosen, and may win the following:

  • Xbox console bundle. There are two prizes in this pool.
  • 1 x Xbox console bundle, 14 x Xbox items.
  • Digitally signed artworks (unlimited), 100 x signed comics, 16 x Xbox items
  • 48 x game artworks, 10,000 codes for in game extras.

Unfortunately, the contest is only open for UK residents, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from figuring out a good puzzle.

Amazing Fan-Made Battlefield 4 Trailer – Better Than The Real Thing?

It looks like DICE’s video production team might have a potential recruit on their hands.

YouTuber TheFloppyRagdoll has clearly got some talent when it comes to video editing and simply making an amazing, cinema-quality trailer for a game he loves to play – Battlefield 4, in this case.

“This took A LOT of work because I wanted to make it look as professional as possible,” he writes in the video’s description. “I was not paid to make this, I just simply love the ‘Battlefield’ series and I love to make trailers.
All camera shots from in game footage were recorded from my perspective and the ‘China Rising’ end screen was all animated by me.”

He has a few others to thank for their contributions as well, so be sure to check out the video’s description where you can also learn a little more about how it was put together.

So, if you haven’t yet, hit play on that sucker in the featured section above and give it a good viewing. It’s well worth your time.

Even DICE senior video editor “killat0n” commented on the video’s Reddit post, saying, “this is some seriously great work. Well edited with good flow. Also shot very well. This guy gets it.”

Titanfall Rep Confirms No Micro-Transactions, No News On a Season Pass

In an age where micro-transactions and downloadable content are commonplace after the launch of most of today’s triple-A games, fans are asking, will this be the case for EA and Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming sci-fi shooter Titanfall?

According to Respawn’s official Twitter account, Titanfall will not include micro-transactions, though the studio has not entirely rule out the possibility of a season pass.

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 1.40.21 PM Today, most season passes offer a full season of downloadable content at a reduced price, a few examples being Call of Duty: Ghosts’ season pass and Battlefield 4’s Premium subscription. They’re a great way to shave a few dollars off of extra content you know you’ll be purchasing anyways, though it does lock you in without much chance of pulling out, should you grow tired of the game or become unsatisfied with its quality.

Currently, no DLC plans have been outlined for Titanfall.

In news related to the rumored Titanfall beta that may or may not be happening, the studio has yet to confirm the likelihood of another public test, but a recent Twitter response suggests they are still thinking about it.

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 1.41.33 PM

A limited technical test, or “alpha test”, took place last weekend for invitees to participate in and provide feedback via a closed forum.

Battlefield 4 Balance Tweaks Incoming – DICE Wants Your Feedback

Battlefield 4 developers DICE are looking for your feedback on some important balancing tweaks the studio plans on pushing out to the game in the near future.

The majority of tweaks in question are related to vehicle balance, including attack boats, anti-air, jets, and tanks.

“We have a wide range of tweaks planned to further balance the core gameplay of Battlefield 4 in upcoming patches,” writes DICE in a recent blog post. “But we need your help in identifying next steps.”

“We have a lot of balancing items in the pipeline for our upcoming Battlefield 4 patches, and we will be able to share them and the rationale behind them soon. In the meantime, we would love to hear your opinions on some of the additional balancing ideas that we could add to the mix.”

The topics include:

  • ATTACK BOATS AIR DEFENSE
  • FGM-148 DAMAGE INCREASE AGAINST TANKS
  • STEALTH JET CANNON TWEAKS
  • FAST ATTACK CRAFT CANNON TWEAKS
  • MBT AND IFV CANISTER SHELL BUFF

You can visit the official blog post and vote for yourself right here.

Over on Twitter, Battlefield 4 game designer Alan Kertz has been rather busy suggesting fixes and looking for feedback. Here are a few of the things he had to say:

– “338-Recon, bolt action timer 1.4->1.25 to make it more appealing vs the M98B. Thoughts?”

In a follow up to this question, Kertz also clarified that the effects of the straight pull attachment that many carry concerns over are “as designed, but likely to be changed.” With regards to bolt-action rifles, Kertz is also “considering adjusting the bullet trail to make it easier to see the drop and travel distance.”

On to some more questions and suggestions:

– “Canister Shells on MBT and IFV. How would you buff them?”

– “Which main gun do you use on your Fast Attack Craft: 25mm? 30mm? Burst?”

– “Would you buff or nerf any of the cannons on the FAC?”

– “Was thinking: Higher Speed on the Burst cannon projectiles, smaller blast area on the 25mm projectiles. No change 30mm.”

Of course, the number of items the studio is looking into are not limited to Kertz’s Twitter list nor the items features in the official blog post. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for news of upcoming fixes in the coming days/weeks!

Overkill Software has shed some details on PayDay 2’s incoming Infamy update, which reveals that those who have maxed out their character can opt to reset their progress in a prestige-esque manner. Doing so will reset all of your characters skills, levels, and cash on hand. Thankfully, you do get to keep your weapons, but aren’t able to use them until you’re the appropriate level again.

Those who do won’t come out empty handed, as you’ll be able to earn some sweet gear that you can view below:

Those who will want to become infamous will have to have at least 200 million cash on their character in order to do so. Currently, there’s no set release date for this update and no word yet on whether or not the consoles will get this update as well.

Elder Scrolls Online Developer Gameplay Video, Gets Rated M by ESRB

Zenimax Online Studios released a gameplay video earlier today showcasing the developers of The Elder Scrolls Online working group content.

Developers featured in the video are  Creative Director Paul SaAge, Lead Gameplay Designer Nick Konkle, and Dungeon Lead Dan Crenshaw.

Also, the game has officially been rated by the ESRB as M for Mature, as noted by the official Bethesda Facebook page:

“The ESRB advised us that it has given The Elder Scrolls Online a Mature rating. While we may disagree with the ESRB’s determination, we do not plan to challenge the rating, and we are unwilling to change the game’s content to achieve a different rating. The game we have created is the one we want our fans to be able to play.

As a result of the ESRB rating, we are in the process of promptly updating everything with the required rating and age gates, including game trailers, web sites, and ads. Thanks for your understanding. We can’t wait to welcome players into The Elder Scrolls Online soon.”

What are your thoughts on the rating? Does it make ESO more appealing to you, or might it hurt sales?

ESO launches for Mac and PC users April 4, later in June for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

DayZ Gets a Major Update, Vehicle Implementation In Progress

DayZ creator Dean “Rocket” Hall outlines what’s in store in the near future for the early access version of the popular zombie-survival game.

Hall spoke in a recent Reddit AMA where he talked about the implementation of vehicles and bases.

“Vehicles will be done based on the architecture we are doing for items/weapons now (i.e. attachments). So it’s in progress really,” Hall wrote. “We are replacing the physics system for items (throwing, etc…) and this new middleware will be used for vehicles also.”

Bases will take a little while longer to implement, but players can expect to have access to barricades first. He also mentioned that though small aircraft such as planes and helicopters would be complex to maintain, he feels they are important regardless.

For the moment, DayZ survivors can look forward to a major update that recently hit.

“This build is has very big back-end changes, which means that it may take some time for game servers to come up,” wrote Hall in the update’s official patch notes.

“Please keep an eye on the DayZ twitter for updates. Many of the changes not listed here are significant database cluster changes associated with our datacenter, and involve configuration changes to DayZ servers themselves. We have tried to minimize potential problems, but delays and outages are possible now more than ever. We will be working as fast as we can to get everything back online.”
