Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan Wars Starts Today, Rank Up Through Divisions, Earn XP and Rewards

After this last weekend’s ‘placement’ war, Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan Wars are officially underway.

If you participated in the lead up, you and your Clan will have been placed in either the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Division. Of course, the only way to rank up to those higher divisions will be to play throughout this week. To learn more about Clan Wars, be sure to visit our previous post right here and keep tabs on your official Call of Duty App.

As a reminder, there are a number of emblems, weapon camos, reticles, and patches that you and your clan can earn through various accomplishments in Clan Wars as well, on top of the XP you earn for controlling nodes:

Emblem – Gold Chain

Capture 3 targets within a 24-hour time period in a Clan War. For the most dedicated, unlocking the Chain Emblem gives your Clan more options with the Call of Duty app Clan Emblem Editor.

Weapon Camo – Body Count

Win a Clan War in Gold Division or higher. The camo commemorates Clans that finish in the top position of the upper Division. Not for the faint of heart.

Reticle – Triad

Win a Clan War. The members of the Clan in 1st place position at the end of the Clan War will be awarded access to the Triad Reticle. Not too shabby.

Patch – Bling Bling

Finish in the top 3 of the Los Angeles Clan War. The Gold Grill Patch is exclusive to Los Angeles, so make it count.

Are you participating in Clan Wars this week? What is your Clan’s name?

Battlefield 4 – DICE Has ‘No Plans To Add’ Old Squad Join Feature From Battlefield 3

By now, many of you may have noticed that Battlefield 4 lacks any sort of option to allow console players to create Squads before attempting to enter into games with fellow friends and teammates.

While the Squad up feature was included as a part of Battlefield 3’s friends system on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation s, it was mysteriously excluded from Battlefield 4 on both current- and next-gen versions without an explanation from developers DICE as to why.

That is until recently, when a statement from DICE was spotted in the comment section of a Facebook post, detailing why the decision was made.

We have a new feature in Battlefield where a new squad is created when a friend joins your game. You can toggle this option on or off by going into the options menu. We’re not offering the old squad join feature because we didn’t feel that the feature in Battlefield 3 was on par with the quality that we wanted to offer our players. We have no plans to add it in the future.

Unfortunately, as stated above, being able to create a Squad in the main menu will not be implemented in Battlefield 4, despite a number of users awaiting to see its return in a future update. That said, maybe you find the new system is working out for you regardless.

Which squad creation system do you prefer, Battlefield 3’s or Battlefield 4’s? Let us know in the comment section below!

Call of Duty: Ghosts November 22 Hot Fix Notes

Another small but much appreciated hot fix has hit all versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts this evening.

It looks into fixing a few exploits, bugs and stability issues. Check out the full notes below.

Call of Duty Ghosts November 22 Hot Fix

  • Fixed squad point exploit.
  • Fixed trinity rocket issue which left player in laptop if enemy ground jammer was called at the same moment.
  • Fixed portal exploit in Blitz.
  • Fixed stability issue when using the trophy system, “more than 192 bones” fix.
  • Fix for Search and Rescue exploit using worldspawn damage to produce tag.

The “more than 192 bones” fix was included in a previous hot fix for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so it may be reappearing here simply to accommodate the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game.

Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Review – Next-Gen Update

My first words: “Ahh, Conquest, the way it was meant to be played.”

Clearly, there are a number of improvements that the next-generation version of Battlefield 4 offers over its current-generation predecessor; almost three times the player count, larger map sizes, increased visual fidelity, and even peripheral functionality. But perhaps the most jolting of differences is the two times increase in the amount of frames that you see during a second of play. Battlefield 4 at 60 frames per second is a whole new world, coming from the 30 FPS limit that clouds the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s much more pleasing to the eye and, frankly, it makes you a better player when you can clearly see your enemy and make out his movements much easier.

Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Battlefield 4 offer the ability to use either the Motion Sensor or Kinect Camera, respectively, to track your head movements to allow you to lean and peak around corners, or free look while in a vehicle. The Xbox One version also supports voice commands. It may or may not be for you and is something you’ll have to play around with to determine if it’s worth it. Of course, both versions of Battlefield 4 benefit from the Battle Screen, a second screen function that acts as an enlarged mini map that you can use on either a separate monitor, laptop, or tablet device. I game with both a MacBook in front of me and an iPad beside me, so I was really able to get the most out of this feature and it was nice to have the freedom in choice.

Screen Shot 2013-11-22 at 8.15.09 PM

Visually, Battlefield 4 on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One is comparable to a modern, mid-range PC. You certainly won’t be getting any ultra-level graphics, maybe even high-level, but the improvement is ten-fold over the previous generation versions. It goes without saying that PlayStation 4’s native 900p resolution display will offer an advantage over the Xbox One’s native 720p resolution display, but I really enjoyed the vibrant colors that the Xbox One version had to offer. I did, however, notice that the anti-aliasing still leaves much room for improvement, and that the draw distances, when it comes to loading in textures and sprites that represent grass or foliage, is shorter than I initially expected. Regardless, the lighting effects, shadow, sharp textures, and smooth 60 FPS gameplay is all there and is definitely something you don’t want to miss.

Sadly, both versions suffer from game crashes a little more often than what I experienced on the Xbox 360. That said, improvements are being looked into for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as we speak.

If you’re wondering why the score for Battlefield 4 remains at four and a half out of five stars, it is simply because the initial review was primarily based on what the PC version of Battlefield 4 has to offer, not to mention that Battlefield, at its core, has always been a PC title. That is clearly where developers DICE are most comfortable pushing the limits of first-person shooter gaming, and while the upgraded consoles give you everything you need to experience Battlefield as it was meant to be experienced, they will never quite hit the same benchmarks in graphical innovation.

That said, it’s fantastic that the console audience can finally drink in the sights, sounds and “feels” of a true Battlefield game.

Those looking to upgrade might want to pay attention to this official info page. There are plenty of cheap upgrade deals (roughly $10 USD plus tax) to take advantage of, though many of them are for a limited time only, so act quickly. Regardless of when you upgrade, transferring stats and content, including Premium content, is a seamless, one-time experience that you’ll be offered once you pop in your new disc or boot up your new digital version on your brand new console.

4.5 / 5

Be sure to read up on our initial Battlefield 4 multiplayer review below! For those who’ve had a chance to try it out on either the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, what are your thoughts so far? We want to hear from you in the comments.

Call of Duty: Ghosts – Infinity Ward Clarifies What The Deal Is With Dedicated Servers

“So, what exactly is the deal with Call of Duty: Ghosts’ dedicated servers that we were promised so long ago? Why do I still have to put up with ‘Host Migrations’?”

These are a few of the questions you might be asking yourself a few weeks in to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ life cycle. Developers Infinity Ward do have the answer, however.

In a Twitter update earlier today from the studio, the team clarified that Ghosts is running on a hybrid system that combines both listen servers and dedicated servers. What you are using while you game depends entirely on your connection.

Here’s the official statement:

Just a reminder that we are using a hybrid system for Ghosts online play to deliver the best possible connection. So sometimes you might be on listen-servers and sometimes you might be on dedicated servers, depending on which offers the better connection. We’re making tweaks every day to improve the experience across all platforms, more updates to come. And yes, with today’s launch of Xbox One, there will be dedicated server support.

This falls in line with an earlier statement from Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin who said, “Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts. And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible.”

So, no need to label any one as a liar at this point! How have you found your online experience with Call of Duty: Ghosts so far? Better, or worse?

Twitch To Add Live Stream Archiving On The Playstation 4 In The Near Future

Those who have been partaking in live streaming their gameplay to the world via the Twitch app on the PlayStation 4 can look forward to some additional support.

According to Twitch’s VP of Marketing, Matthew DiPietro, support for archiving live streams to be able to re-visit any special moments will be coming in the near future. As of this moment, no exact date was given.

Speaking with Joystiq, DiPietro revealed “We find archiving to be an exciting part of the broadcast experience, especially since broadcasters and their viewers love to be able to revisit and share some of their most memorable moments, it’s up to our partners to determine if it’s a feature set they want to offer as part of their Twitch integration, so we encourage them to keep this functionality top of mind.”

As we previously reported, those on the Xbox One can look forward to using Twitch live streaming services early next year. Additionally, a spokesman person for Microsoft has stated that archiving live streams is a feature that they will certainly consider adding.

Incoming Battlefield 4 PC Update To Address ‘Blur Effect’, Sound Bugs, and ‘1 Shot Kill Bug’

An incoming PC update for Battlefield 4 is in the works that DICE developer “Vincent0K”, as his name goes on the Battlelog, has revealed to address a number of bugs that the community has weighed in on.

The “next PC update is in the works, and we are tracking to fix a few items you have given us feedback on,” he writes in a recent Battlelog forum thread.

“Specifically, we are looking at the Commander EMP blur effect that you have noticed, as well as the intermittent sound bug that happens most frequently on the Golmud Railway map.”

“While we don’t have a solid date for this patch just yet, we just wanted to let you know some of the things we’re looking at right now (besides increasing stability overall.)”

“Finally, YouTuber JackFrags sent us a great video where he demonstrates the so-called ”1 shot kill bug”, where it looks like weapons sometimes deal too much damage (although the real issue might be more complex.) We are reproducing this bug and working to fix it as soon as possible.”

If you’ve seen JackFrags latest video, which you can view through the link above, you’ll be happy to know it’s getting looked into sooner rather than later, as it is now believe to be the cause of those “insta-deaths” you might be experiencing in game.

Please note that the upcoming patch is clearly not limited to these fixes, but will certainly include these updates, as “Vincent0K” has mentioned.

Meanwhile, DICE developer “Trydling” has shared that the studio has “a game update on PS4 in the works for the week of Nov 25 and will be able to share details on it soon.”

If you missed it, here’s what DICE had to say about Battlefield 4’s rocky launch and what they are doing for you while you wait for these upcoming patches.

DICE To Make Up For Rocky Battlefield 4 Launch With Double XP and Unique Weapon Attachment

Battlefield 4 developers DICE have some surprises in store for anyone currently enjoying the military-inspired first-person shooter on either the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or PC.

In a letter addressed to all Battlefield fans, DICE executive producer Karl Magnus Troedsson writes that while the team is more than proud to have launched Battlefield 4 across five different platforms, they are “less proud to see that the game has experienced some turbulence during the launch period.”

“While some platforms have had only minor problems, others have had more than their fair share of issues,” Troedsson continued. “Resolving the launch issues is our #1 priority. In fact, we are so serious that we have the entire team working to stabilize the game and we will not move on to other projects until we are sure that Battlefield 4 meets – and exceeds – your expectations. It is the right thing to do.”

In order to help smooth things over while the studio works tirelessly on updates, fixes, and patches, and to also show a measure of gratitude for your patience, DICE comes bearing gifts in the form of double XP and a unique weapon attachment.

“To show our appreciation for your patience as we work through these issues, we are announcing that from November 28 through December 5, we will reward all players with Double XP for every multiplayer match they complete,” Troedsson writes. “We understand that the launch issues may have impacted your progression, and we want to do everything we can to help you get back the XP that you may have lost. Also, to cap off the week, on December 5 we will give all players that log in to Battlefield 4 multiplayer a M1911 pistol scope. This special sidearm scope, previously reserved for our DICE developers, has a 3X zoom and is available for all classes in Battlefield 4.”

A number of updates for Battlefield 4 are forthcoming, including a PC game update next week, an incoming PlayStation 4 patch, and more. Be sure to stay tuned to MP1st to get all the latest info!

So, are you stoked about some bonus XP and a new weapon attachment? Is it enough?

Call of Duty: Ghosts Playlists Get Hardcore Domination And Tweaks To Game Chat

In a recent update from Call of Duty: Ghosts developers Infinity Ward, the studio explained that a playlist update across all platforms has added Hardcore Domination to the mix of multiplayer game modes.

The update is also going to force players to use ‘game chat’ only in modes like Infected, Search & Destroy, Search & Rescue, and Hardcore Search & Rescue. That basically means you will not be able to speak to your party members privately via party chat while playing in any of those game modes as of this writing.

Screen Shot 2013-11-21 at 11.16.11 PM

It’s a small update, but something some of you may appreciate regardless.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches on the Xbox One today, while the Xbox 360 version awaits a patch introducing a few new features shortly.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare Hits Xbox One and Xbox 360 February 18 [Updated]

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, the Frostbite 3-powered, multiplayer-only, ‘budget’ third-person shooter from PopCap games, has been announced by publisher EA to hit the Xbox One and Xbox 360 this February 18.

“Gamers across the world have fallen in love with the Plants vs. Zombies characters and now they’ll get to see them in an entirely new light,” said Brian Lindley, Producer on Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. “Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare give the series’ fans and shooter players a fun, new experience that they’ll both enjoy as they blast, chomp and laugh their way through co-op and head-to-head online action.”

Due to the lack of any sort of single player content, PvZ Garden Warfare will be priced at a very modest $39.99 USD on the Xbox One or $29.99 USD on the Xbox 360. The PC version will be available at a later date. But at that price, and based on the quirky, fun-filled gameplay shown off in the game’s debut trailer, we won’t be surprised if we find ourselves recommending this title to all shooter fans come February.

The game will boast more than 10 maps and three multiplayer modes including 12v12 competitive modes called Garden & Graveyards and Team Vanquish, as well as a four-player co-op mode called Garden Ops.

On Xbox One, PvZGarden Warfare will not only feature two extra game modes including local cooperative split screen and Boss Mode, but players will also be able to utilize the Kinect or their SmartGlass device to support their teams.

Update

Check out nearly 10 minutes of Plants vs. Zombies 24-player Team Vanquish multiplayer gameplay with commentary from PopCap Executive Producer Brian Lindley.

Xbox One – “Dolby Digital [Through Digital Optical] Is Coming Post Launch”, Says Microsoft [Updated]

Update

Astro Gaming has released an official statement on the matter, claiming that a number of headsets in their line up will still provide “a Dolby® Headphone 7.1 experience on the Xbox One – even from a stereo input.” The full statement reads:

“Microsoft’s decision to drop Dolby® encoding on their SPDIF output at launch does have ramifications for ASTRO’s products. While our products do not process DTS signals, we do have on-board Dolby® encoding in both our A50 Wireless Transmitter as well as our Wired MixAmp™ Pro. An Xbox One gamer will need to select Stereo output for game audio, but our MixAmps willprocess that stereo signal with Dolby ProLogic II and encode it with Dolby® Headphone – *the* gold standard for simulated 7.1 Surround Sound for gaming headphones.”

“So have no fear gamers, your ASTRO’s will still provide a Dolby® Digital Surround experience no matter what your console choice.”

Thanks, Adam!

Original Story

Kotaku’s review of the Xbox One caused quite a stir last Tuesday among headset users within the gaming community when it confirmed that devices using the console’s digital optical output would only receive a stereo signal, not a true Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound signal, downgrading some of the most common gaming headsets (Astro, Turtle Beach, Tritton, etc.) into mere stereo headsets.

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I, too, was rather disappointed with the news. That’s why I’m very happy to report that while the feature will be missing at launch, Microsoft Director of Product Planning Albert Panello has confirmed in a heated NeoGAF thread that “Dolby Digital is coming post launch.”

“This was a SW scheduling issue pure and simple, and I know people are disappointed, but we will have it,” he said.

“Anyone with an HDMI receiver should be fine, as we pass the uncompressed 5.1 and 7.1 through HDMI as well as DTS,” he continued. “Even if you have a Dolby only HDMI receiver (which I’m not sure exists), you will still get 5.1 or 7.1 sound since those receivers should accept uncompressed surround.”

“For the Dolby only headsets, my understanding is that these will work but you will only get stereo audio since we only pass Stereo and DTS through the optical port. I have not tested this myself, but I’m told it works. Regardless, I understand this is an inconvenience, but again we’re going to have Dolby coming.”

Exactly how the feature will be making its way to the console, either via a hardware or software update, has yet to be made clear.

It’s odd that Microsoft didn’t make this clear to begin with, as the news stemming from recent reviews of the console may have swayed a number of headset-using gamers to look elsewhere for their next-gen gaming experience. Regardless, the immersive experience that 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound headsets provide will continue to be able to do so, but at a later date.

Rumor – Call of Duty: Ghosts Map Pack Names Leaked?

An email sent out by Call of Duty publisher Activision to generate awareness for Ghosts‘ Season Pass has allegedly revealed the names of all four map packs set to launch throughout the current season of Call of Duty.

Fariko Gaming member Fariko_Scorch was able to grab a screen of the email, later removed by Activision, that lists four map packs for the price of $49.99 USD; Onslaught, Devastation, Invasion, and Nemesis – the first letter of each name spelling O.D.I.N. which clearly relates to a major plot event in the game’s single player campaign – along with access to the Team Leader digital content pack.

ODINmappack

The current email being sent out lists similar information, but without the names of the for map packs.

While it sounds convincing, we’ll consider the names rumor for now until we hear from official sources.

First Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan War Inbound Next Week, Read Up On All Details

This Monday, November 25th marks the beginning of Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan Wars, a game within a game where you must gather your closest allies to do battle with enemy clans for rewards, but more importantly, bragging rights.

“Clan Wars is a metagame that takes place on top of the multiplayer game you’re already playing,” writes Dan “One of Swords” Amrich in his latest blog post detailing everything you need to know about Clan Wars. “The various multiplayer game modes in Call of Duty: Ghosts match up to a node on the Clan Wars map, which you can view from the free Call of Duty app.”

“As you and your Clan members play multiplayer matches in those modes, you’ll be racking up points that will let you take control of the matching nodes,” He continued. “Controlling those nodes pays off in in-game bonuses and, if you’re really good, unlockable items for your soldiers.”

[youtube id=”DOCf7fY7RGI” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Rewards will be made up of short- and long-term goals. Accomplishing short-term goals, which are tied to these nodes, will reward players with XP multipliers. “If I take over a Core TDM node of the Clan Wars map, the XP bonus applies to all Core TDM matches in the whole game,” says Beachhead studio head John Linden. Long-term rewards range from customization options like new reticles to unique patches that will only be made available to winning clans.

“There are four divisions, and some of the prizes are only for the top two divisions,” explains Linden. “Some of them will be for everybody — there will be things you can always earn no matter what division you’re in — but there will be some items we want to hold out for Clans who are very competitive. We want to make sure that the players who are really putting a lot of work into it, playing hard and playing as a team, get some benefit.”

The weekend leading up to next week’s Clan War will act as a “placement weekend” where you’ll be able to gather at least three members of your clan and prepare for the coming battles. Be sure to keep an eye on your Call of Duty App to stay up-to-date with all the latest notifications and info, if you want to stay on top of these clan battles.

Lastly, head on over to One of Sword’s lengthy blog post to read up on everything there is to know about Call of Duty: Clan Wars.

Will you be participating with your clan?
