Killzone: Shadow Fall Multiplayer Review – A True Next-Gen Entry Title

The latest iteration of Killzone in the relatively long running FPS, PlayStation-exclusive series has finally launched alongside Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 4. Being a huge fan of the franchise, I was a bit cautious, despite liking what I have already seen so far. With fond memories of the multiplayer in Killzone 2, but a disappointment with Killzone 3’s multiplayer offerings, does the latest in the series build upon the components we grew to love, or does it continue to take steps backward even more so?

While the series has had its ups and downs, Shadow Fall takes everything we loved about Killzone 2’s Multiplayer and mixes it up with the new-found mechanics in Shadow Fall. The gameplay feels like a wonderful mix of Call of Duty and Halo. It’s extremely fast paced and fluid, yet you aren’t taken down in a matter of seconds with fast-killing, high-damage weapons. You can ignore all the videos on YouTube, as this game supports a smooth 60 frames-per-second (Youtube only allows for about 30 frames-per-second, giving the game a ‘slower’ appearance’). Yes, the controls do have that classic Killzone 2 ‘weighty’ feel to it, but it isn’t as heavy – more akin to a solder’s weight you’d feel in a Battlefield game. Of course, we have to give praise to the DualShock 4 controller for its slick precision and more-than-welcomed improvements over the gimpy DualShock 3 controller. After getting used to Killzone: Shadow Fall with its lack of auto-aim, I find it just plain awkward going into any other FPS that does feature it.

A Next-Gen Leap in Visuals

As a launch title, Killzone: Shadow Fall does not disappoint when it comes to showing off its graphical prowess on the beefy hardware inside the PlayStation 4. From gorgeous vibrant colors to fluid animations, Shadow Fall is truly a title worthy of being called “next-gen”. Walking through levels, glaring at the lighting, and even textures on the ground and characters, it all looks absolutely stunning and highly detailed, especially at a constant 60 frames-per-second. One can say that the levels truly feel alive (and dead) as the colors really set the tones and moods. In one map, you’ll be battling it out in a luscious green forest, while in another, you’re fending for your life in close, tight quarters of a cold, dark and damp ship. It’s all rather stunning and is a relief to see it move away from the gritty, orange/brown-tinted look that past Killzone Games sported.

The animations and particle effects so fluid, it’s hard not the stare in awe and satisfaction every time. Lighting is second to none, as you’ll see in some of the videos below. Colors bounce off walls, projecting them through hallways that would otherwise be a different color. All the little details in this game are just so impressive, like cloth textures on a Helghast or VSA soldier, or how the textures on walls all appear to look life-like. All of it looks gorgeous on a 1080p TV set, something that never truly felt as satisfying on last-gen consoles, considering the muddy looking textures that were still present. It surprises me to see this game is capable of pulling off such visuals with what’s going on in some of the maps’ backgrounds, such as flying warships whizzing by and all sorts of gasses emitting from the ground.

[youtube id=”K2GO83a48IU” width=”618″ height=”378″]

There is some light destruction, mostly cosmetic, but nothing huge in comparison to Battlefield. No issue there, really, considering it never aimed to do such things. For the time being, it’s nearly on par with what you can expect to see on a modern, mid-range PC. But for a launch title, it truly is worthy of “next-gen”.

Map Design

In total, there are ten maps, all of which, I must say, are very well crafted. They all have tight-spaced areas, yet support the distance for ranged gunfights, so any play style a player may prefer isn’t at a disadvantage. The maps are really diverse too, as you’ll never feel like any of the settings repeat. In one map, you’ll be fighting in residential penthouses of Vekta, while in another, you’ll be duking it out in the slums of New Helghan. It’s all captured so beautifully, and the layouts don’t feel problematic in anyway. There are Spawn Bases, as in the last few games, but “spawn camping” really shouldn’t happen (though, it does). I say this because, nearly 90% of the time, players are using the exact same Spawn exit, which has enemies awaiting for them. Spawn Bases are designed with multiple exit points, more than enough to avoid any sort of “camp-ish” behavior. But, as stated, it does happen still.

The only map I disliked in Shadow Fall’s multiplayer is The Remains, only because it’s a remake of Bilgarsk Boulevard from Killzone 3, which, as a personal opinion, I wasn’t too fond of. Though, I have to say the map looks amazing and offers some intense close-quarter combat, just as the other maps do.

A Deeper Class System Than You Think

The Class system in Killzone 3 is utter trash when compared to Killzone 2. None of the roles felt like they served a purpose, and everyone just ran as an infiltrator due to its clear effectiveness. Shadow Fall has since removed that class (though it might return) and has opted to return to the Killzone 2’s style of class play, but better. In total, there are three classes; Scout, Assault, and Support. Each class has a permanent primary ability and then a second ability that can be chosen.

kzsf_fe_2013-10-07_scout-class_01-610x285-600x280

Scouts – This class excels at sniping and counter-sniping. The Scout’s primary ability is to mark enemies within a radius, and the secondary consists of either cloaking, emergency teleport, or a stun drone that’ll explode and stun enemies when deployed. On the field, these guys will supply long-range cover fire and are also used for sneaking past enemies to accomplish/capture objectives. The emergency teleport comes in handy when enemies close in on you, which will teleport you to safety near other allies. As for the Stun Drone, this is a perfect bot to help slow down mass formations of enemies. The Scout is the perfect class for sniper rifle users, and there is absolutely nothing more enjoyable than performing brutal, cloaked kills on unsuspecting enemies.

kzsf_fe_2013-09-16_assault-class_05-600x281

Assault – These guys are usually the ones out on the front line, though they do have an arsenal of weapons that can be effective at distances. Their primary ability is the shield, which absorbs incoming fire and can be shot through. As for their secondary, you can choose either the speed dash (boosts movement), stun blast (a small blast that blinds and slows down enemies) or a buddy drone (automatically shoots at enemies and follows you around). Most players will opt for the Assault class, considering that they are the go-to soldier that’ll get into action right away. They are the ground warriors who will be in the front lines at all times and can easily wipe an area clean with their abilities.

Killzone-Shadow-Fall-Support-Class-Details-and-HD-Images-1-1024x480-600x281

Support –  The support class is probably the most important of the three, considering they can easily determine the fate of a match. Their primary ability is reviving, which, as you can imagine, is a huge asset in firefights. As for their secondary abilities, players can choose turrets to lay down support fire, aerial drones to give air support, and the most important of the selections, spawn beacons. These will truly determine the outcome of a match as they supply alternative Spawns from the Base Spawn. These can practically be deployed anywhere within the map, meaning if you play a match of Search and Destroy, spawns can be placed near the targets for effective offense or defense. These guys — as their name suggests — are used to give supporting fire, and with the mini-gun being a weapon in their selection, it really does help to have their support to get you out of sticky situations.

If you are a veteran Killzone player, you may have noticed after reading this that a bunch of the classes found in previous titles are now merged into each other. Personally, I find it makes more sense as it takes away the need for multiple players to be spread among the larger amount of classes. Really, the option to have a second ability fills in the gap for any missing roles. By “dumbing down” the number of classes to three, Shadow Fall offers excellent combinations for load-outs. Everyone has a main role along with a secondary role that they can play as, placing a greater importance on decision making.

Goodbye, XP System – Hello, Challenge System

This may come to a shock to many of you, but Guerrilla Games has scrapped the long-adopted XP system that we find in basically every multiplayer game. Instead, the studio has created a new progression system based on challenges. At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of it, but honestly, it makes absolute sense. In most multiplayer games, unlocks are based on your rank. Shadow Fall takes the Battlefield approach and accommodates your play style with weapon-based challenges and more. No more having to earn XP to progress through ranks only to unlock a scope for a sniper rifle that you will probably never use, since you never play that role. If you play as an Assault class, then you’ll earn unlocks towards that class. And the best thing is that these challenges don’t take away from playing objective-based games, which could have been a possibility. In fact most are sculpted around working towards them.

There are a ton of challenges as well. The game boasts about 1500 of them, and in my weeks of play time, I have only hit about 400 of them. The only negative aspect I can think of with this system is that the amount of challenges you complete represents your rank. So if you completed 500 challenges, your rank will be 500.  For me, this is a bit of a disappointment, as the past games had the standard and beloved military-style ranking. Nonetheless, it doesn’t take away from much of anything and offers a huge amount of replay value, considering that not only does it unlock weapons, but also new emblems and other items.

Game Modes

Warzone – This is the classic Warzone game mode found in previous Killzone titles. It goes through a 5 round rotation of different types of game modes; Team Deathmatch, Capture the Beacon (Capture the Flag), Search and Destroy (Attack and Defend), and Capture and Hold. It’s truly the favorite of the playlist selections due to the amount of time a match can last (20-30 minutes) and that the rotation of game modes doesn’t bore you with playing the same thing over and over again. My only con with this game mode — and many would agree — is that it lacks the Assassination/VIP mode. Chances are, it’ll be added in a future update, but it’s a bit disappointing to see it not included.

[youtube id=”r-N6FfLq8jQ” width=”618″ height=”378″]

[youtube id=”L_CXM-hQO2A” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Custom Games – The thing ruined Killzone 3 were not only just the maps, but the limited options. Custom Games were nearly thrown out the window until players started complaining, and from my understanding, they weren’t even considered ranked like in Killzone 2. I’m still a bit confused, but I do believe that, this time around, custom lobbies are counted and can be used towards unlock progress. Sure, it supports boosting, but the lobbies are just as fun because we can edit basically anything.

Custom lobbies range from your standard Warzone modes to Hardcore game modes where health and ammo is limited. If you want to create a game with only a specific weapon, like knife-only, then, yes, that’s possible. Pretty much any type of restriction can be applied to custom lobbies, which is a huge plus. So, while Guerrilla Games has offered players only a limited amount of options when it comes to official game modes, its up to us to get creative and explore other options. I love this idea because there’s always a new game mode being invented with the content available in each one. They even have online bot support, which is great for those looking for some team practice.

What Shadow Fall Lacks And What Needs Improving

There are some things Shadow Fall lacks that I find rather shocking. I already stated that the VIP/Assassination game modes were missing, but among this, features such as Squads, Party, Clan, and even basic in-game mic functionality are all missing. I can let the Party system go, considering that it’s actually done through the PlayStation 4 console, but a different color highlight for allies would be great, considering we usually lose one another on the field. I believe a clan system and squad system are being worked on, but there should be zero excuse as to why there is no in-game chat. I get that it’s a team oriented game, but I am not going to friend every player I play with just so we can chat that one match. There needs to be a way to communicate with random players. Hopefully this is implemented sooner rather than later. These are, after all, core features that made up the past Killzone games. Guerrilla Games has been Tweeting out that they are looking into these features, so we may not need to worry much longer.

Air Drones also have way too much health, considering the amount of kills they can get. And one thing I would like added is marked base turrets on the map. Countless times I have accidentally wandered into an enemy base to be blown to bits by the turrets. There were marks in previous titles, so it makes sense to do it here too.

Out of all those small complaints, this is probably my biggest complaint; Not being able to kill downed enemies. I just don’t get why they would remove this in Shadow Fall. It’s annoying having to down an enemy and not being able to kill them permanently, unless it was with a head-shot first. But so far, I’ve been enjoying how the game is currently set-up, so there’s no real way of telling whether or not this would break the game if we could kill downed enemies.

Overall, Killzone: Shadow Fall Multiplayer is a rather impressive package that’ll continue to get support for many months to come. With free maps on the way, and a reasonably priced Season Pass, I have to say this was a worthy purchase since the community is already established, and veterans of the past games will no doubt absolutely love this iteration. Guerrilla Games has a lot to work with in terms of improvements, but we are sure it’ll all be added in due time. Otherwise this is certainly one addicting multiplayer experience, especially when playing with a party.

Battlefield 4 China Rising Map Overviews; Guilin Peaks, Altai Range, Silk Road, and Dragon Pass

Battlefield 4 China Rising launches for Premium members this Tuesday, December 3.

We got our first look at the four brand new maps; Guilin Peaks, Altai Range, Silk Road, and Dragon Pass, earlier this week via a Game Spot video preview that was published a little earlier than it was supposed to be. The videos have since been made private, but there are some in-game screens you can still take a peek at if you’re interested. Just follow the link here.

However, thanks to Redditor Andersso, we got our hands on some full size overviews of all four China Rising maps. The images do not represent the entire play space of each map, but rather a complete overview of the area or setting. You’ll definitely need to zoom in on some of these to see exactly where the capture points might be located and where the battles will actually take place.

Check them out below!

War Thunder Possibly Delayed On PlayStation 4 In North America, According To FAQ

Originally slated to release this Friday, the highly popular World War II-themed F2P MMO, War Thunder, may have possibly been delayed for North America.

The official FAQ confirms that on the day that the PlayStation 4 launches in Europe, which is this Friday, November 29th, War Thunder will be available to all European PS4 owners along with those in Australia and New Zealand. However, when the question of when the North American version would release was asked, developers Gaijin Entertainment simply stated, “It depends only on Sony of America, but we’re doing our best to bring War Thunder to US console players as soon as possible.”

Among other things in the FAQ, it was always confirmed that cross-play isn’t possible at this time due to the PS4’s build being a newer build than the PC version. No details when it would happen, but they stated that they are working with Sony and the reason why it’s not there day one is due to the fact that patches won’t be published simultaneously on both platform. This will be enabled in a future update once the issue has been resolved. You can read the full FAQ below, which addresses other concerns.

What is War Thunder?

War Thunder is a free-2-play MMO combat game dedicated to major World War II battles. It combines aerial, ground and naval multiplayer battles all in one gaming experience. The game’s major battles are set during the period from 1939 to 1953.

Does the game support Remote Play through PS Vita?

This feature is not supported at the moment, but it will eventually.

Can I play the game offline?

No, you need permanent internet connection in order to play War Thunder.

Does the game require PS Plus to play multiplayer?

No, you can download the game from the PS Store for free and play it without any restrictions.

When the game will become available for PS4 in Europe?

It will be available of the launch day of the console itself, on November 29th. On this day War Thunder for PS4 will also launch in Australia and New Zealand.

When the game will become available for PS4 in North America?

It depends only on Sony of America, but we’re doing our best to bring War Thunder to US console players as soon as possible.

Is there some exclusive content for PS4 version?

Yes, all PS4 players will get a unique decal for decorating their planes and they can also purchase an exclusive “Invader” Advanced Pack which includes US attack aircraft A-26C-45-DT Invader and other bonuses.

Will be there any benefits for PS Plus owners?

Yes, PS Plus owners will get a discount for buying a premium account and another unique decal for decorating their planes.

Can I get some in-game advantages by paying real money?

No, you can’t! There is no way to get any advantage in battles by spending real money.

You can buy Golden Eagles – special in-game currency which you can use to train your crews faster and unlock planes and upgrades for them earlier. But you’ll be fighting against more experienced and better equipped users, who didn’t spend anything. Also, with Golden Eagles you can buy “premium” planes, which come prepackaged with all upgrades. But they aren’t any better than regular planes – these are just rare models, like Australian aircraft in the UK research-tree.

Can PC and PS4 users play together? Will the updates be the same as on PC?

Cross-platform play won’t be available on day one because PS4-version uses a more recent build (1.37) of the game than PC-version and thus is incompatible with it. We’re working closely with Sony on deploying updates simultaneously on PC and PS4, and when we have 100% confidence that it’s possible, the cross-platform multiplayer will be enabled in one of the updates.

How much does PS4 version differ from the PC one?

As described above, at the moment the game uses different builds on each platform. However in general, it is almost the same, except controls and interface. But in order for it to stay the same we need to make sure that the versions will be synchronized in reasonable timeframe.

Can I use my existing PC-account on PS4?

Sony’s current policy requires you to create a new account for the PS4, so you can’t use your existing one. We really hope that Sony some day will change this, but it this is up to them only. If that day will come, we’ll try to make some merging of the accounts, and while it will be technically impossible to merge 100% of your progress on both platforms, we’ll try to do our best. But, again, even that possibility depends on Sony.

On the bright side – you can use your PS4 account to play on PC.

Can I play War Thunder on PS4 using flightstick?

The support of USB-compatible flightsticks will be added in future updates.

Does the game support the PlayStation Camera?

Yes, it is used for head tracking so the player can look around in-game without using the controller.

I do want to add this as a final note, for those who were anticipating this F2P title, you’ll more than likely be able to create a European account on your PlayStation 4, so you might not be missing out.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan Wars In Detail: Capturing, Defending and Losing Nodes

If you’re excited about participating in Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan Wars, but are having a tough time simply figuring out what to do or how to effectively kick ass, you may want to listen up and hear what developers Infinity Ward have to say about capturing, defending and losing nodes.

“The primary objective of Clan Wars is to earn as many Capture Points (CP) as possible throughout the Clan War,” writes Infinity Ward in a recent blog post. But you probably already have a good understanding of that concept. Your Capture Points will continue to add up, even if you lose a node to another Clan.

On an empty node, you might see something like this:

CW-nodedetail

This indicates that your Clan needs to tbe the first to acquire 40 wins in Kill Confirmed. “Wins are counted individually on a per-player basis,” reads the blog. Kill Confirmed matches played in regular playlists also count towards your progress. Also important to note is that the more Clan members you are with when winning a game of Kill Confirmed, the more points you get towards your progress. Playing by yourself will earn you one point, while playing with five others will net you a total of six.

Should your Clan be the first to acquire 40 wins and capture the node, there are two things you need to consider:

  1. All your Clan Members now benefit from a +25% Multiplayer XP boost when playing Kill Confirmed. Congratulations!
  2. Any other Clan’s previous capture progress will be frozen. If Clan JoeSchmoe currently has 12 Kill Confirmed wins at the time your Clan locked down the needed 40, JoeSchmoe will stay locked at 12 wins until your Clan loses that node and it becomes available to capture.

Now that your Clan is holding on to the node, other Clans will be able to attempt to knock down your score of 40 to zero by winning matches of Kill Confirmed. You can get back into the fight and attempt to keep your score up to hold on to the node for as long as possible, but remember that you are facing off against every other Clan currently in the war. Infinity Ward’s blog also indicates that “there is also a maximum number of wins that your Clan can attain for each node to ensure the battle for each node is competitive. Once you reach that point, your win total cannot go up even if you keep winning matches although your in-game XP bonuses will continue.”

Should your score on that node be reduced to zero, it will once again become available to capture by other Clans and you will lose your XP bonus associated with that node. Other Clans – or your own Clan if you decide you want to recapture the node – will now have the opportunity to earn 40 Kill Confirmed wins once again, starting from where they last left off once the node became locked.

“Call of Duty Clan Wars was built in this way to ensure no one Clan can dominate every node and the associated XP boost for an extended period of time,” writes Infinity Ward.

In the end, it’s really up to you and your Clan how you want to play the game. You can focus on holding on to one or two nodes, recapturing them as soon as they are taken away from you, or you can simply move on to other nodes/game modes without worrying about previous ones you’ve captured. “There are in-game bonuses for a variety of strategies,” according to Infinity Ward.

Clan Wars is currently in its first week of operation, but there will be plenty of other opportunities to get in the game if you missed out. Be sure to stay tuned to the official Call of Duty App for details.

New Star Wars-related “Next Gen Open World Action Game” In Development at EA Canada

As indicated by recent job postings from the Vancouver, Canada division of publisher Electronic Arts, a “New Next Gen Open World Action Game” is allegedly in the works and is in need of “an experienced Animation director”, among other positions.

The listing, originally discovered by Kotaku, reads that “EA Canada is looking for an experienced Animation director to help define and deliver on the vision for a major new next gen open world action game.” The positions will “oversee the development of animation, and work closely with the Creative Director, Game Director & Combat Designer to establish and realize the vision of the game.”

While the description itself does not appear to be related to anything Star Wars, the studio’s then-recruiter indicated that the studio was looking for a “Lead Combat Designer for Star Wars @EA,” confirming that a new Star Wars project is indeed in the works at EA Canada. IGN points out that “two other executive producer position listings may indicate a collaborative process between EA Canada in Vancouver, and Visceral Games in Redwood Shores.”

As per EA’s recent contract with Disney, Digital Illusions CE, Visceral Games, and BioWare are all on track to produce “new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines,” spanning “all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres” for the next 10 years. As of this writing, we already know DICE is hard at work on Star Wars: Battlefront, which EA CFO Blake Jorgensen stated earlier “will most likely come out around the same time as the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of ’15.”

EA Canada in Vancouver might just be the latest addition to an already impressive roster of Star Wars video game developers at EA.

We’ll keep you posted on any other Star Wars-related findings we might come across. For now, how would you fancy an ‘open world Star Wars action game’ for next-gen?

Battlefield 4 – DICE Outs Patch Notes For Upcoming PC Update, Due Out Week of December 2 [Updated]

Battlefield 4 developer “Trydling” has outed the patch notes for the upcoming Battlefield 4 PC update later next week that will solve a number of inconveniences many players have been reporting in lately.

Namely, both the audio bug that plagues maps like Golmud Railways and Hainan Resort, as well as the “one-hit kill bug” that currenty affects everyone will be addressed. The blur effect created by EMP attacks will also be removed in this update.

“We are verifying the upcoming PC patch and making sure it is good to go,” Trydling writes in a recent Battlelog update. “We are aiming to get this patch out the week of Dec 2. Right now, we don’t have a set date for it, but here’s what it will include.”

PC Game Update Notes

  • Removed the blur effect on soldiers that appeared when Commanders were using EMP attacks
  • Fixed the audio bug where audio sometimes randomly dropped out while playing on certain multiplayer maps (typically Golmud Railway and Hainan Resort)
  • Fixed the “one-hit kill bug” where occasionally damage from a single bullet was applied multiple times
  • Fixed a common crash that would occur when exiting from the Single Player Campaign to Main Menu
  • Tweaked the network and computer performance screen to show proper values. Players can now test their computer and network connection and get recommendations if they need to adjust something to improve their gameplay experience.

It’s small a small update, but it is certainly a needed one. However, it’s not clear if the update will include any more fixes not limited to the list above, which is a definite possibility. We’ll keep you posted if and when we hear of similar fixes making their to the console versions of Battlefield 4.

Update

In another related post, “Trydling” has confirmed that a similar update is in the works for the Xbox One and PlayStation 3 versions of Battlefield 4 and will also be ready by the week of December 2. Specific patch notes for these update are still forthcoming.

Just a quick note that we’re finalizing the upcoming Xbox One Game Update [and PS3 Game Update] and aiming to have that live the week of Dec 2. We will share the patch notes for this update soon. The update will focus on stability and performance, and includes a fix for the so-called “one-shot kill bug”. Stay tuned for full patch notes.

Thanks, Clayton and Sheldon, for sending in the tips!

Gears of War and Shoot Many Robots Free For Xbox Live Gold Members This December

Continuing with Xbox Live’s “Games With Gold” 2-free-games-per-month promotion, a classic third-person shooter from Epic Games that defined the genre and an action-packed team-carnage side-scroller from Demiurge Studios arrive on Xbox Live this December, free for Gold subscribers.

“The next set of free games for Xbox Live Gold Members in December will be Gears of War* and Shoot Many Robots,” writes Xbox Live’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb in his latest blog. “Starting Sunday (December 1st) Gears of War (Normally US $19.99) will be free for Xbox Live Gold members through December 15th. Then on December 16th, Xbox Live Gold Members can download Shoot Many Robots (Normally US $9.99) for free.”

*Germany and Japan will receive “Halo Wars”

Like Halo 3 last month, Gears of War is a classic Xbox 360 exclusive and is the spring board from which the popular chainsaw-revving, blood spilling, cover-to-cover, third-person shooting series began. It’s a great grab for anyone looking for a nostalgic blast from the not-so-distant past. Shoot Many Robots is also a solid choice for co-op buddies looking for a retro action title that keeps things stupidly simple.

Excited for December’s picks?

Battlefield 4 China Rising Gameplay and Screens

China Rising, Battlefield 4‘s first ‘real’ expansion pack, is available December 3 to all Premium members, two weeks later for non-Premium members, and brings with it four brand new, expansive maps set in Mainland China, along with new weapons, gadgets, the dirtbike infantry vehicle, and the Air Superiority game mode. It’s also free for anyone who pre-ordered their copy of Battlefield 4.

According to an in-depth preview published by GameSpot, maps are very reminiscent of previous works like Armored Kill, End Game, and even Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s Vietnam expansion pack. Many of the maps are very open, allowing for intense land and aerial combat, while some feature lush foliage and jungles with sharp mountain peaks.

Even just by briefly scanning the thumbnails below, it’s easy to see that the setting of each map varies drastically and should prove for one of Battlefield 4’s more interesting pieces of DLC.

Check out some footage and screens of Silk Road, Guilin Peaks, Altai Rage and Dragon Pass and let us know in the comments what you think so far!

Update

It appears GameSpot’s videos have been made private, respecting the China Rising embargo date of December 3. You can, at least, still have a gander at some of the screens.

Microsoft Giving Complimentary Game To Those Affected By Faulty Xbox One Disc Drive

Good news for those who have purchased an Xbox One this past weekend only to find a defective unit in their hands with a disc drive malfunction. The issue reported by a small number of customers is being looked into and is being resolved.

Microsoft is reportedly offering those affected by a defective Xbox One with a complimentary game, according to an Xbox customer care email forwarded to Polygon. “While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game,” read a recent statement from Microsoft. “We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios.”

Those eligible will be able to pick digital copy of the following titles: Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome or Zoo Tycoon. Since these titles are all digital copies, owners of a faulty Xbox One will still be able to play them despite having a faulty disc drive.

Did you end up with a broken Xbox One? Which title will you be picking as your free game?

Rumor – Christmas Camos Coming to Call of Duty: Ghosts?

Christmas is coming to Call of Duty, if recently surfaced images of a holiday-themed Call of Duty: Ghosts weapon camo is to be believed.

Allegedly leaked images sent to YouTube personality Ali-A, presumably discovered by tweaking a few of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ game files, show off the Vector CRB sub-machine gun coated in a sort of ‘holiday sweater’ camoflauge pattern – reindeer, snowflakes and all.

There’s no telling if we might see some sort of holiday personalization pack, à la Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 with its numerous mini-DLCs, but it certainly wouldn’t be surprising if that was the case. If so, we’ll most likely hear something from developers Infinity Ward in the coming weeks.

Would you rock out a holiday-themed weapon camo in Call of Duty: Ghosts?
