EA Sports College Football 25 Update 1.008 Slides Out for Scoreboard Bug Fix This Aug. 19 (Update)

EA has released College Football 25 update 1.008, which is a small patch download on all platforms. Don’t expect any new content from this, but it does fix the scoreboard bug fix that surfaced from the major title update released from the past two weeks.

College Football 25 Update 1.008 Patch Notes for August 19:

Update 2: After close to the day being over, EA has finally released the patch notes!

  • Fixed an issue where the scoreboards would disappear during a game.
  • Fixed an issue for Offline Dynasty files where Freshman Players were not shown in the player list for position changes.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would freeze when performing an Onside Kick in both Online and Offline Dynasty Mode.
  • Fixed an issue where changing your schemes or playbooks would affect your players archetype and OVR based on your choice in Offline Dynasty files.

Update: While no official patch notes have been released yet, members of the community have mentioned some of the known fixes with the patch.

  • Incoming Freshmen are back in positional changes (includes the ATH as well). Position change is fixed. Made a save in year 5 and just checked all freshmen and athletes show up. You still have to sort in total roster screen for athletes to show. (via Creepy_Dependent_239)
  • The “Scheme” glitch has also been fixed. Per trekfan1013 “Went into Coach>Scheme+playbook section, changed Florida to multiple different schemes (Air Raid, Spread, Pro), no overall changes, no change to the players abilities or archetypes that I can see.”

Once more fixes are found, we’ll update the article.

No official patch notes have been released so far, but the devs did confirm some of the fixes incoming per a tweet from August 10:

For OFFLINE Dynasties, a Title Update will be required to resolve these issues. Our team is currently working to include these updates and more in our next Title Update.

We also addressed an issue with SuperSim results for overtime (OT) games, including the News panel on OT results for future games.

Please note that the Schemes and Playbooks fix is not retroactive for players on your roster who previously had their OVR and/or Archetype changed. However, you are safe to use the Schemes and Playbooks menu to change your playbook!

Over on Reddit, multiple gamers have confirmed the scoreboard bug has been fixed with today’s patch!

Scorebug is fixed

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll be sure to update the article and let our readers know. In related College Football 25 news, EA has confirmed they have used AI to develop the game.

Dead Cells Update 1.51 for Patch 35 Slices Out This August 19

Evil Empire, who’s handling the content support for Dead Cells for Motion Twin, has released Update 35 for the game on consoles and PC. Called “The End Is Near,” this update brings new weapons, mobs and more! Console gamers will see this as Dead Cells update 1.51 (PS5 version 1.007), with the complete patch notes for the game’s final content update available below.

Dead Cells Update 1.51 Patch Notes | Dead Cells Update 1.007 Patch Notes:

Highlights:

  • New additions based on one of our most iconic mechanics, Curse: 3 new mobs, 3 new weapons, 3 new mutations and a new biome effect for you to choose whether you are gonna take the risk for more rewards or not.
  • New legendary affixes.
  • 40+ new heads for customization options.
  • New routing: you can now go to both Return to Castlevania biomes in one run.
  • More accessibility options
New Curse Additions:

3 new mobs:

  • Sore Loser: a cutie who can’t hurt you but is super clingy and annoying, always trying to be close to you and dash through you. When you kill it, you get cursed.
  • Doom Bringer: every melee attack from it won’t cause damage, but will apply 2 stacks of curse and stun you, and you will instantly die if you have already got 50 stacks of curse. Sounds pretty fair right?
  • Curser: it launches a slow homing projectile that can go through the walls. If you “accidentally” get caught by this projectile, you take damage and 5 stacks of curse. One more surprise! If you get close to it, it will bonk you with its staff.

Please note that cursed mobs won’t spawn randomly in your run! (yeah, we know mobs giving curses sounds a bit scary and even annoying)

There is a new biome effect, Cursed Biomes, which features the new cursed mobs in exchange for extra rewards.  You can choose to go into it with its rewards, or go to the other biomes that don’t have any scary cursed mobs.
Here is more info about how Cursed Biome works in your run:
  • Cursed biomes only spawn in runs with a Boss Cell level 2 or higher (boss fight biomes won’t be cursed).
  • Just like biome incentives, there will be a specific icon above the exit to a cursed biome, so that you can have the choice of taking this challenge or just going to the other normal biomes.
  • A cursed biome always contains 9 (+/-2) cursed mobs randomly selected from Curser, Sore Loser and Doom Bringer.
  • There is, of course, a reward for that risk: all the items dropped in a cursed biome will drop 1 gear level higher, regardless of their source (shop, loots, etc.). The spawn chance of cursed chests also increases by 10% in such biomes.
  • There is a cap to the number of cursed biomes that you can go through on your route, depending on the BC level, set as follows: from BC 2 to 5 respectively: 2, 3, 5 and 8 (i.e. in 5BC, there is no cap).
  • This cap only limits the number of Cursed Biomes that you can go to in a run, it doesn’t mean that you must go through that many Cursed Biomes to finish your run.
  • Once you have hit the cap, no more cursed biomes will appear in that run. Until you have hit the cap, cursed biomes will continue to appear.
  • As long as you haven’t reached the cap, biomes always have a 25% chance of being cursed. There will always be at least 1 biome without cursed mobs at any point in your run, no exceptions.

With new infested monsters, we of course prepared more powerful weapons and mutations for you:

3 new weapons:
  • Anathema: rip a Mushroom Boi’s heart out to fire a heavy indirect projectile dealing AOE damage. However, there is a price for being an utter savage – you will get cursed if your attack hits anything. Yep, you only get cursed if you hit something. Whoever is creating these curses doesn’t care how many mushrooms you tear apart, just if you hit anything afterwards. Makes you think…
  • Indulgence: Calls down a ray of vengeful light on the nearest enemy dealing critical damage if you are not cursed. Targets killed by the ray purge you of 3 stacks of curse instead of 1. Fires 1 additional ray per 5 stacks of curse you have (max: 5 per cast).
  • Misericorde: inflicts crits if the victim has less than 50% HP. Curses you if the crit doesn’t kill its target.
3 new mutations (all colorless):
  • Cursed Flask: your health flask has infinite charges but also curses you 20 times each time you use it. But can you survive from those 20 stacks of curse? TAKE CARE, my friends…
  • Damned Vigor: upon being dealt fatal damage, you stay alive at 1 HP for 2 seconds. If you kill any enemy while under this effect, you will be saved. Otherwise, when the effect disappears or you get hit while under it, you instantly die without any sort of protection applicable.
  • Demonic Strength: Damage increases by 30% if you are cursed. This bonus is increased by 2% per curse stack you have. Cursed Sword counts as 1 stack for this effect (no special bonus for it, but you can still stack curses on top of it).

Also, after digesting a bunch of suggestions from you guys, we’ve done a bunch of reworking and rebalancing on the legendary weapons that needed it.

New legendary affixes:
  • Flawless: NEW Almost Perfect: Killing an enemy within one second after getting hit allows you continue causing crits.
  • Gold Digger: NEW Filthy Rich: Crit multiplier increases with your gold.
  • Punishment: NEW Punish Combo: Recasts the AOE effect if it kills at least one target.
  • Rampart: NEW Mirror Coating: Reflects damage of attacks received while under the effect of the shield’s force field. This damage scales with the attack received (i.e., the stronger the attack is, the more damage the shield reflects).
  • Cocoon: NEW Parry Streak: Each consecutive parry reduces Cocoon’s cooldown the next time it starts.
  • Emergency Door: NEW Armoured Door: The door can’t be destroyed by enemies (except for bosses).
  • Bone: NEW Whirlwind: Increases the last attack’s whirlwind duration by 2 sec with every enemy it kills.
  • Wrenching Whip: NEW Retiarus: The first attack throws 3 crow’s feet in front of you (with the same internal cooldown as the grenade affix).
  • Explosive Decoy: NEW Foolproof: The cooldown of the item is instantly reset if its explosion doesn’t hit at least one target.
  • Barrel Launcher: Triple Bullet (i.e. not a new affix, but we changed the one it had before).
  • Leghugger: NEW Mitosis: Summons 2 Leghuggers instead of 1.
  • Assault Shield: NEW Charged Dash: Holding the shield button will charge a stronger version of the dash, which can then be used by releasing the button.
  • Ice Shards: NEW Bouncy: Projectiles bounce on the ground twice before disappearing.
  • Quick Bow: NEW Sharpshooter: Critical hits will refill one ammo.
  • Bladed Tonfas: NEW Lacerator: Only uses the first attack of the combo.
  • Grappling Hook: NEW Octavio: Also fires a chain behind you.
  • Tesla Coil: NEW Double Use: You can use the skill twice. Each use has its own cooldown.
  • Lightning Rods: NEW Double Use: You can use the skill twice. Each use has its own cooldown.
Some notable balances:
  • The Bank is slightly easier in 2, 4 and 5BC. Yeah, SLIGHTLY…
  • The Throw Master’s bone projectile deals less damage in Return to Castlevania DLC.
  • Alienation rework: Instead of healing the player per curse reduced, it will now heal the player when the curse is lifted, with the amount of health recovered based on the max amount of curses you had (for that curse instance). The effect only starts triggering when the player had more than 5 curses, and requires 35 stacks of curse to fully heal you.
New head customization:

What do we have in the Tailor’s Daughter’s secret stash?

  • Flame heads based on various appearances of the Beheaded along the years to make sure you are always in a suit and tie.
  • Bosses’ heads such as the Queen, the Time keeper, etc. As if you could become as badass as those bosses with their smart brain.

  • And lots of strange and secret heads, such as the Cell Head, are waiting for you!
New routing
  • We’ve also changed the connections between biomes:
  • Added an exit to Master’s Keep in High Peak Castle.
  • Added exits to Corrupted Prison and Ossuary in Castle’s Outskirts.
  • Added an exit to Dracula’s Castle (early) in Corrupted Prison and Toxic Sewers.
  • Added an exit to Black Bridge in Dracula’s Castle (early).
  • Added an exit to Defiled Necropolis in Ossuary.
  • Replaced the exit to Fractured Shrines in Defiled Necropolis by an exit to Graveyard.
  • Added a light source in the Mimic Hint lore room, when it spawns in Forgotten Sepulcher.
  • Added an exit to Dracula’s Castle (late) in Mausoleum, Guardian’s Haven and Clock Room.

Yes, this does mean that you can now go to both Return to Castlevania biomes in one run…

More accessibility options:
  • Added two new sets of control icons and an option to select them. You can select either “Legacy” (current icons), “New” (a new, cleaner set) or “Big” (accessibiliy focused, easier to read).
  • Changed the Daily Challenge’s boss arrow opacity, for better visibility.
  • Added new input options for the “going through platform” action.
  • Added options to change the controller triggers’ deadzone.
  • Reworked the Auto-hit assist mode option. It will no longer force the use of a melee weapon in the first slot.
  • Added an option to add a background to most texts in the game. The background’s color and opacity can be adjusted.
  • The left stick can now be used to scroll through item descriptions in the pause menu.
  • Added options to fully invert the player and camera movement.
  • Added a bunch of options to tweak the camera’s behavior. The influence of the player’s movement, combat, or points of interest can be customized.
  • Split the “controller sticks deadzone” into two options, one for each stick.
  • Added an outline option for spikes.
  • Added a button to center the minimap on the player.

In case you didn’t know, this is the last planned content drop for Dead Cells, as Evil Empire is shifting to other projects.

Bully Rated in Taiwan for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Rockstar Games might be preparing to bring back one of its classic titles, Bully. A new rating has surfaced for the game on the Taiwan Rating Committee’s website, listing Bully for release on modern platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The rating does not specify whether this will be a simple port, a remaster, or a complete remake. However, the absence of a Nintendo Switch rating has led to speculation that Rockstar may be planning a more significant re-release, potentially a full remake. The rating is particularly intriguing since Bully is already available on these platforms through emulation or backward compatibility.

Bully Rated in Taiwan for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Bully originally launched in 2006 and has remained a fan favorite despite not receiving much attention from Rockstar over the years. Rockstar ported the game to Xbox 360 and PC in 2008 and later to mobile in 2016.. Fans have long called for a sequel, but Rockstar has focused on other major projects, such as Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

In related news, Bully was confirmed to be part of GTA Online’s subscription service, GTA+, starting August 20th. This suggests that Rockstar might be planning a re-release of the game, potentially included in the GTA+ subscription, much like how Red Dead Redemption was first made available on PS4 and then later became part of GTA+.

Rockstar hasn’t officially announced anything yet, but game ratings typically mark one of the final steps before a release. We expect Rockstar to make an official statement soon.

The GentleBros Cat Quest 3 Interview – Development, What’s Next

While RPG games are a dime a dozen these days, one that’s entirely focused on a cat isn’t. That’s where The GentleBros’ Cat Quest 3 comes in. The third chapter in this meow-tastic adventure, we managed to get the devs to talk about the game, what’s coming after and more.

Speaking to MP1st is Desmond Wong, one of the co-founders of The GentleBros, and in the development of Cat Quest 3, served as the director for game design, and also its art direction.

The GentleBros Cat Quest 3 Interview:

MP1st: Can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us about your role in the development of Cat Quest 3?

A: My name is Desmond Wong, and I am one of the co-founders of The Gentlebros. For development, I lead the team in art direction and game design!

MP1st: How large is The Gentlebros team working on Cat Quest 3, and how long has the game been in development?

A:  The full development team started with five, but we’ve grown to eight people by the end of production. All in all, the total development time was around three years!

MP1st: With the previous Cat Quest games being fantasy RPG-themed, why did you decide to take a drastic turn and set it on a pirate background?

A: After introducing both cats and dogs in Cat Quest 1 & 2 respectively, we wanted the next animal to be rats! Because of that, it would have been such a missed opportunity if we didn’t make them pi-rats… and naturally the pirate theme was born!

Cat Quest 3 Review

MP1st: What features would you say are the highlight of this pirate adventure, and what do they add to the gameplay of the previous chapters?

A: The biggest new addition is a fully controllable pirate ship! Players can hop in and out of this ship seamlessly at any time, and even get into epic naval sea battles on them.
Now with the ship, gameplay has evolved in a way that allows players to start a battle with the ship to soften up enemies, jump out and finish the battle on foot. The ship becomes a new tool in the player’s arsenal giving more options in battle.
Furthermore, exploration is also enhanced as the ship allows players to explore the entire world with much greater freedom than before!

MP1st: Sailing and ship combat is something players will be doing a lot in Cat Quest 3. What were the main challenges for you in getting the feel right for this feature?

A: The biggest challenge with ship combat was balancing accessibility, fun and skill required from player.
First and foremost, we wanted the ship to feel more like a speedboat rather than a heavy, lumbering lump of wood. This meant that the turning radius is really quick, the acceleration is fast, and we even added a boost ability to make it feel even more arcadey and fun.
Secondly, we had to find the right balance of accessibility and skill when controlling the ship. In the first iteration, the ship could auto-target everything around it, and this made combat too easy and mundane. We decided to only allow the ship to target enemies in front of it, and combat became much more engaging as players had to consider both position and facing direction when facing enemies.

MP1st: Did you ever consider using a different camera perspective for the third game, and what do you feel is special enough to keep it instead of a more traditional third-person or isometric perspective?

A: We actually tweaked the camera angle a lot for the third game. With a much lower angle, players can now see much further than ever before, making exploration much more engaging.

MP1st: How long does it take for a player to finish the campaign, and what are the incentives to restart the adventure?

A: The main quest would take most players about 10 hours, while a 100% completionist playthrough would take about 15-20 hours!
Since the game has multiple endings and even a New Game + setting, players are hugely incentivized to get the full story and get stronger and stronger with each new playthrough!

MP1st: Cat Quest 3 is playable in local coop mode, but there is no native online coop mode. Why is this feature not included in the game?

A: We really like the couch co-op experience because there is a certain charm about it that is missing from online co-op. Many members of the Gentlebros team grew up inviting friends over for Street Fighter and Halo LAN matches. These were all great experiences that had the human touch, and we want people to feel this when playing a Cat Quest game too.

MP1st: Cat Quest 2 featured dual heroes, a cat, and a dog; why was it decided to go back to just one character rather than featuring another dog companion?

A: We wanted the dog companion to be a distinct and unique feature of Cat Quest 2, which is why we decided to bring the central theme of cats back for Cat Quest 3 (it is a cat’s quest after all).
This isn’t to say there aren’t dogs in Cat Quest 3! Many important NPCs and characters are still dogs, and they all help to make the world richer and more varied!

MP1st: Speaking of dogs, it seems like a no-brainer to do a Dog Quest spinoff. Has the team potentially discussed this? Or is everyone over there strictly a cat person?

A: Cat Quest 2 has already explored quite a bit of the dog kingdom, which is why the team hasn’t had any plans to make a fully-fledged Dog Quest. This is not to say that I don’t think we’ll ever consider it… it’s just not on our current roadmap yet!

Cat Quest 3 Review

MP1st: Looking back at the original Cat Quest and how the series has grown to be the success that it is today, did the team ever envision the series running for how long it has? Is there an end plan for the franchise, now that Pandora’s box has been opened into going with different fantasies, or does the studio plan on making Cat Quest games as there’s a story to tell?

A: When we started the Cat Quest series, we had already planned for nine Cat Quest games (because cats have nine lives). Back then, it wasn’t clear if we could get a chance to make a sequel, but now that the series has fans, we’d love to see the story to its end.

MP1st: The big obvious is how each game ends with being part of a larger story, with the third game being teased throughout as the “last” part before we get what is called the “Catpocalypse.” Do you think it’s safe to say the next game will finally tell the story of that? Are there any hints of what we can expect from it? I picture Mad Max, but with cats, “wink, wink.”

A: Yes, the next mainline Cat Quest game will be about the Apawcalypse. Before that though, we want to make a new game in a different genre before we come back to the Cat Quest series.
As for hints to what the next Cat Quest game will be about, why would we want to spoil the surprise! 😉

MP1st: What would you say has been your favorite moment in the series thus far? What about development and such in general?

A: I think our favorite moment has been watching players’ reactions to the Cat Quest games! We have such pawsome fans, and their excitement really motivates us to make as good a game as we can!

MP1st: To finalize, are you considering other themes for a potential Cat Quest 4? More seriously, do you have any plans for the series that you can share with us? Can we expect a bigger and perhaps much different take going into the next game, or a few?

A: : We really don’t want to spoil the surprise, but like with the pirate theme for Cat Quest 3, we think people will be pleasantly surprised by what we do next!

Cat Quest 3 is out now for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. You can read our review of the game here.

Minecraft Realms Service Still Having Connection Issues for 30% of Players This Aug. 18

Even after days of work and even a client-side patch, it seems the Minecraft Realms service is still experiencing connection issues for a good chunk of the player base. To its part, Mojang has been working on it, and has made an announcement on the recent developments this August 18.

Minecraft Realms Service Connection Issues Acknowledgement by Mojang for Aug. 18:

Here’s the latest announcement from the studio:

On Downdetector, there’s still a significant number of reports incoming today, which means players are still having issues logging in. While the last article we had for it was on August 16, we felt there was enough reports on it to warrant another post about it, and honestly speaking, we assumed that the Realms server outage would be completely resolved by now.

As you can see from Mojang’s announcement, the version 1.21.20 of the game on Realms is being blocked for now, and the Switch will get a hotfix (though not specified whether server-side or a client-side patch).

With about 70% now able to access the servers, it should just be a matter of time until it’s fully resolved. Of course, this is assuming that nothing more breaks. If any other update is shared by the developers, we’ll update the article.

Epic Games: Mobile Gaming Business “Largely Broken,” Cites “Dysfunction” Due to 30% Tax From Apple, Google

While a lot of games get released on mobile platforms every week, not every game hits it big. The ones that do though, they have to pony up a huge sum of 30% to Google and Apple for being available on their respective digital storefronts. This was something Epic Games was not OK with, which resulted in Fortnite being pulled from both the Play and App Store for years.

In a new interview, Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney states that the mobile gaming business is “largely broken” and pins the blame on how Google and Apple puts a tariff of 30% to developers. Not only that, but Sweeney mentions how “no developer” makes a 30% orifit margin.

I think it’s important to realize the state of dysfunction that exists in the mobile gaming business as a result of these taxes.

No game developer has—other than a few companies for a few years, at the apex of their absolute histories of hits—no developer makes a 30% profit margin.

So when Apple and Google take these 30% fees off of the top, the effect is developers have to raise their prices to cover the fees. Raising the prices reduces demand.

The entire game industry is in a suppressed state, compared to what it would be if there were a free and open competition among stores. Developers would make a lot more money. Developers would lower the prices because the profit-maximizing price is actually quite a bit lower than the current price.

And, you know, if we re-introduce competition, then the market would sort all this out and we’ll have a much better position for gaming.

Sweeney has also revealed that they have spent about $1 billion in the company’s fight against Apple and Google, though states that it was a “small price” to pay for freedom of the mobile gaming industry.

In case you didn’t know, Epic Games is finally able to launch Fortnite on mobile platforms once again with the release of the Epic Games Store launcher. While the launcher is available now for Android, it’s still not available outside of EU for iOS devices.

Do you agree with Sweeney’s statements? Or is 30% just right given Google and Apple handle the entire ecosystem of their respective digital storefronts?

House of Golf 2 Review – Mini-Golf Within Chaotic Courses

Mini-golf can be a lot of fun and excitement for all the family, unless that family is the one that has to tidy up the place after the rounds in House of Golf 2. This Unreal Engine 5-powered sport through over a 100 holes has good intentions, but somehow it fails to deliver on the fun aspect and ends up short of being as entertaining as it could be. It can be interesting with a few friends around or simply to beat some challenges, but that doesn’t make up for a certain feeling of not quite fulfilling its potential.

A Messy House

House of Golf 2 Review

In the name of amusement and golf, you’ll go through various tournaments where the courses are comprised of anything you may find in a household, from blocks to books, toy ramps, and a lot more. But the course design is bound to make some fans but also some haters, as there are countless opportunities for out of bounds play, and visibility can also become an issue due to the size of some obstacles and barriers – while there are transparency effects at work, sometimes the camera doesn’t work as expected and our view is hidden by a large block, resulting in what is pretty much a blind shot, forcing some unwilling readjustments to the camera angle. Since every shot counts to get the gold, silver, and bronze trophies to unlock further tournaments, this can be frustrating.

On the other hand, we have the option to unlock the camera to fly around and inspect the course, and while a full map could be useful, the occasional verticality would make this a tougher feature to offer in a game that is expected to be simple and easy to grasp.

The default control mode for taking the shots involves pressing the left mouse button and moving the mouse forward and backward to adjust power. It takes some getting used to but works well overall. However, House of Golf 2 is a bit shallow in terms of possibilities, with nothing under your control but the shot strength, not even a spin effect which would be extremely useful to work around some corners and obstacles – you simply aim and select the desired power, and hope for the best. Naturally, timing is important as there are some moving obstacles, and there’s a score feature for air time, bumps, and more, along with a limited number of ball resets per tournament.

House of Golf 2 Review

Besides trying to finish each course with the always coveted par, birdie or eagle, not to mention the rare hole in one, you can shoot for medals that are scattered around. These allow you to unlock and use new golf balls, most of them quite quirky such as cats and tires, purely cosmetic and without affecting the shots in terms of physics.

Speaking of which, there’s something that doesn’t quite feel right in House of Golf 2. The ball seems to roll the same in every surface apart from the very noticeable puddles here and there, stopping quite abruptly when rolling on wooden floor or carpet all the same. It may be a feeling that the ball is slightly heavier than it should be, but I can’t shake it and this somewhat seems to cut some shots shorter than expected. There’s also very little in the way of interaction with physical items apart from a few blocks, which is underwhelming, as it results in a rigid playground where even a castle of cards is for some reason made out or iron instead of actual playing cards. There isn’t much scope for experimentation within the courses apart from the endless ricochets.

With no online play, a 4-player couch coop option could somewhat encourage some gatherings, but doesn’t feel like a real way to make up for the lack of an online mode.

Fun in Small Packages

House of Golf 2 Review

House of Golf 2 is a good shot at mini-golf, looking good and playing nicely, but not quite on par with the best of the genre. The courses could do with a little more clarity and it’s quite easy to get our view blocked by a larger object, transparency effects not fully working as they should. The lack of physics at play with the course items is also underwhelming, same going for the way the ball seems to be heavier than it looks, even on different surfaces.

There’s still some enjoyment to be had in this house, but it doesn’t seem like the kind of game you’ll be returning to very often, as some unfortunate frustrations keep it from being a hole-in-one.

Score: 6.5/10

Pros:

  • It plays a nice game of mini-golf… sometimes
  • Over 100 holes to discover

Cons:

  • View gets blocked often during the shot
  • Some courses are difficult to grasp
  • No spin effect
  • Course physics are barely used, and the ball seems to perform the same way in various surfaces
  • No online play, only local

Bad News for Hollow Knight Fans, Silksong Will Not Appear During Gamescom Opening Night

Hollow Knight fans hoping for an update on Silksong during the opening night of gamescom, we got some disappointing news as the title won’t be making a surprise reveal.

Gamescom is nearly upon us. The first day of the four-day event officially kicks off this Tuesday, August 20. Traditionally, the opening night, dubbed Opening Night Live (ONL), has typically been the show’s biggest day, and this year will be no different as multiple publishers will take the stage during Gamescom ONL. Sadly, despite being the biggest night of the event, there is one confirmed studio that won’t be taking the stage to give an update on perhaps one of, if not the most anticipated indie project, Hollow Knight: Silksong.

This was revealed by the host of Gamescom ONL, Geoff Keighly, who took to X to confirm that Team Cherry won’t be a part of the ONL show.

He teases that despite this bad news, Team Cherry is still “cooking.”

It’s been five years since Silksong was officially announced and two since we’ve gotten any significant update on the project, that being for the announcement of the PlayStation versions and that it’ll also be a part of Xbox Game Pass when it launches. The studio has also gone radio silence on X since June 2023 and has yet to issue any new updates around the project.

It’s a bummer, but at least we know what not to expect during the show, though I’d be lying if I didn’t have a bit of hope that Geoff is trolling everyone and that there’s still a chance Silsong will make an appearance. Just let me have it; even though they said it won’t be there, the clown makeup is already on.

Report: Black Myth Wukong Guidelines for Content Creators State to Not Include Feminist Propaganda, Politics & COVID-19

Just yesterday, the review embargo for Black Myth Wukong has lifted, which means people who have the game can talk about their impressions freely. Well, it seems not only have reviews surfaced, but even guidelines for content creators, which included some restricted topics such us the COVID-19 pandemic, politics, and “feminist propaganda” and more.

Note that the document below is NOT the review guidelines and was only given to streamers and video makers (content creators and not traditional media). The Black Myth Wukong content guidelines below are the real deal as confirmed by TechRaptor reporter Don Parsons. You can check out the entire thing here, but we’ve included the important part below.

As you can see, it mentions that the recipient of the document is expected to:

  • Do not insult other influencers or players.
  • Do not use any offensive language/humor.
  • Do not include politics, violence, nudity, feminist propaganda, fetishizations, and other content that instigates negative discoures.
  • Do not use trigger words such as “quarantine” or “isolation” or “COVID-19”.
  • Do not discuss content related to China’s game industry policies, opinions, news, etc.

Again, this is not the review guidelines for press, and was only sent out to content creators. Parsons has a piece on this as well where he talks about how (for lack of a better term) “interesting” this agreement is.  That said, at least there’s no mention of people not allowed to say anything negatively about the game. Also of note, we might see these types of agreements on paid streams where the content creator isn’t allowed to discuss certain topics.

Even with this little snag, GameScience seems to have done well with their debut game, as our reviews round up for it (which includes TechRaptor’s) is quite positive.

In other Black Myth Wukong news, the game’s first PS5 gameplay footage has been released, and while it’s not a long video, it’s looking good so far.

Black Myth Wukong releases this August 20 on PS5 and PC.

Report: Ubisoft Unannounced Title Codenamed “Iridium” Story Details Unearthed

Ubisoft is no stranger to introducing new franchises to the gaming world, as not only is the publisher has been consistent in delivering new entries in its existing franchises, but the company has made a name by introducing all-new gaming IPs as well such as Watch Dogs, XDefiant, and a lot more. Based on our findings, it seems Ubisoft might be forging ahead with another new IP. While details about these new IPs remain scarce, a recent discovery might shed some light on one of their upcoming projects.

It all starts with a casting call made in March of last year for a project codenamed “Iridium”, directed by Kim Hurdon, a voice casting director who has worked on numerous Ubisoft projects in the past. The call includes a synopsis of the project and a description of the role they are casting for. The synopsis reads the following:

In the aftermath of a terrible war, scavengers pick through the ruins of Highpoint City for invaluable resources. Once considered the pinnacle of human civilization, Highpoint is now controlled by the forces that defeated it, something between a prison and a science experiment gone wrong. Intense radiation prevents organic humans from operating inside the war zone, so human minds are copied into mechanical Shells, allowing them to explore this hostile landscape. Illegal factions struggle against each other for survival in the wastelands, while the local Authority maintains order as best it can. Now, decades after the fall of Highpoint, something is beginning to stir within the ashes… something alien. As Whittaker, a man with a shady past and a reputation for taking jobs no one else will, experience what it means to trade your humanity for a mechanical Shell as you embark on the journey of a lifetime. Whittaker will need stealth, cunning, and a variety of vehicles and weapon systems to reach the epicenter of this mysterious place. Only then will Highpoint reveal its deepest secrets.

Regarding the role, they were looking for an actress to portray a character named “Octavia”, a character in her mid-20s. It’s worth noting that they were specifically seeking black performers for this role. The description states:

Octavia is a low-level employee of the Event Containment Area Authority’s Infrastructure Division, responsible for construction and maintenance of the vast network of buildings and devices inside the ECA. Both parents were respected scientists in Highpoint before the war. When the Event took place, Octavia and her father escaped, but her mother was a devotee of Highpoint’s self-appointed leader, Isaac Armitage, and was lost in the explosion. Octavia is a rebel; she grew up in the ECA and doesn’t like being told what she’s allowed to do and see there.

  • Raised by a father who was forced to assist the enemy of his own nation, Octavia has no memories or attachments to the old Highpoint—the Event Containment Area is the only world she’s ever known. When she became a young adult, Octavia was forced to take responsibility for her family early, as her father struggled with depression and became obsessed with personal research conducted outside of work, eventually leading to unemployment and descent into insanity. With her insider’s knowledge of ECAA buildings and protocols, Octavia makes cash on the side by helping sneak Sleepwalkers into the Grid illegally.
  • As her dad helped the ECAA understand the Event that destroyed his world, he became obsessed with the belief that his wife was somehow still alive, finally disappearing into the Grid—a virtual death sentence for organics.

At first glance, we see that these synopses provided do not align with any previously released Ubisoft franchise. The game seems to fall into the science fiction genre with post-apocalyptic elements, and even seems to introduce an extraterrestrial presence. It also appears that the game will primarily take place in a city called Highpoint.

Regarding the characters, three are mentioned by name: Whittaker, who seems to be the protagonist; a character named Octavia; and another named Isaac Armitage, who is (or was) the leader of Highpoint City. One interesting aspect is the mention of “mechanical shells,” which seem to have the ability to house copies of human minds, and based on what is mentioned, we assume that the protagonist will use one of them through the course of the game while exploring the ruins of the city, living as a robot or an android.

Now, which division of Ubisoft could be working on this project? While the majority of Ubisoft studios focus on established IPs like Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed, there are exceptions. For instance, Ubisoft Leamington and Ubisoft Stockholm are both working on unannounced new IPs. While details about Ubisoft Leamington’s project remain scarce, we do know that Ubisoft Stockholm’s project will use a cloud-based technology called Ubisoft Scalar. This technology, introduced in 2022, aims to enable the creation of larger and more ambitious game worlds.

We also need to take into account the possibility that this game might be canceled. As we know, Ubisoft has experienced a string of game cancellations in recent years, such as The Division: Heartland or Ubisoft’s unsuccessful attempt to create a battle royale called Project Q. However, if the game reached a stage where casting for supporting roles was underway, we can assume that it had advanced significantly in its development process.

Once we know more about Ubisoft’s project Iridium, we’ll let our readers know.

Black Myth Wukong PS5 Gameplay Finally Surfaces, Features Raw Combat

While we’ve seen countless footage of Black Myth Wukong, it has been for the PC version. Oddly enough, even if the game is slated for release on PS5 on launch day, developer Game Science has been stingy when it comes to showcasing Black Myth Wukong PS5 gameplay.

That has changed today, as the official PlayStation China weibo page has uploaded a video of Black Myth Wukong running on the PS5 that showcases raw gameplay.

Hopefully, we’ll get a proper video from PlayStation US or other regions soon, and once we do, we’ll insert the YouTube video in this. What’s odd about here is, the reviews that are out now are all for the PC version, and it looks like there won’t be a PS5 version review of Black Myth Wukong available at launch. Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of something wrong with the PS5 version, though we’ll know for sure since we’re basing our review on the console version.

Black Myth Wukong launches this August 20 on PS5 and PC, with the Xbox version still in limbo. For the latest gameplay look at action game, head on over here to see the final launch trailer where four minutes of gameplay are shown.

PSN Store “PlayStation Exclusive Weekend Offer” Kicks Off, Houses a Lot of AAA Titles

Sony has kicked off another PSN Store sale, and this one is the “PlayStation Exclusive Weekend Offer.” As one might surmise based on the title, this promotion is exclusive to PlayStation Plus members. Expect a lot of AAA discounted, and we have the full list and our recommendations below.

There’s also the “August Savings” sale on-going now, and we’ve excluded any game that’s there from this list.

PSN Store “PlayStation Exclusive Weekend Offer” List of Games:

NOTE: the price listed below is not the final discounted price. You will need to login with an account that has an active PlayStation Plus membership to see it.

Recommendations:

  • GTA 5 (-50%, $19.99) – The PS5 version is also on sale at $14.99 For those three people that still do not own the game, here’s your chance.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (-67%, $19.99) – One of the best sequels if all-time. This is GTA in the Wild West. Loads of stuff to do, secrets to uncover. Prequel to the first game, but better in every single way.
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (-55%, $31.49) – Sequel to the Fallen Order. Less annoying backtracking. A bit easier overall as well. Packed with stuff to do, and Cal’s “poopie pants” has been fixed.
  • It Takes Two (-65%, $13.99) – Needs a partner to play it since it’s mandatory co-op. Worth the money, but there is an on-going sale with A Way Out included. If you have that, then gives this a pick up.
  • Dying Light 2 (-60%, $23.99) – Packed with content and still getting support. New raid mode released for free and in beta now.
  • The Outlast Trials Deluxe Edition (-33%, $33.49) – Latest Outlast, this one has a more multplayer focus but still brings the scare. Just got a big confentt drop last month, with promises for more on the way.
  • Battlefield 2042 (-85%, $10.49) – PS4 version is at $8.99. Worth it at that price. DICE has managed to turn it around for BF2042. Less reliant on Specialists and adjusted to feel like a more traditional BF game. Season 7 was the last seasonal content, but events and support are continuing.
  • Dead Space (65%, $24.99) – One of my fave remakes since it adds more to the original source material. If you have yet to play the original, do NOT spoil the story for yourself, and just play this. Good length, fantastic weapons, good story. Pick this up so we can get Dead Space 2 remake greenlit.
  • Star Wars Battlefront 2 (-70%, $6) – Someone said here that servers are still full with players. If so, definitely worth a buy since the core gameplay is solid, and the gunfights are a sight to behold for Star Wars fans.
  • Hi-Fi Rush (-40%, $17.99) – Tango Gameworks’ latest project. Different beat of an adventure game. There’s a reason this won so many awards. Buy it, play it and you’ll find out why loads of people got outraged at MS for closing Tango.
  • Marvel’s Midnight Suns. (-75%, $17.49) – PS4 version is a few bucks cheaper. This is strategy but with Marvel. Lots of post-launch premium DLCs to go through if you want more stuff.
  • Lords of the Fallen (-55%, $31.49) – Souls-borne and the art is very similar to From’s games. Some like this, some didn’t. Interesting premise and has gotten a ton of post-launch content and support.
  • Mass Effect Trilogy Legendary Edition (-85%, $8.99) – Fantastic experience and easily one of the best gaming trilogies of all-time. BioWare even updated the gameplay with this re-launch. If you haven’t played this, you need to pick this up, play as Space Jesus and hope the next entry lives up to it.
  • BioShock: The Collection (-80%, #9.99) – Includes all three BioShock games. Definitely worth the price. Play the best one (first one), and then dive into the rest to see what the ruckus is all about. Story is great if it hasn’t been spoiled for you yet.
  • Titanfall 2 (-75%, $4.99) – One of the best FPS’ of all-time. Campaign is topnotch and has some moments that will make you a believer out of Respawn. MP is full of sweats that will bunnyhop around your ass before calling in their mech to stomp on your mech. Still worth the buy!
  • Star Wars Squadrons (-80%, $7.99) – Support has ended but servers are still up. Dogfights Star Wars style. Fun and it’s rare to get this style of game these days.
  • Anthem (-85%, $2.99) – Had loads of potential but endgame was crap. Shame the reboot was pulled by EA. Back then, this was the “Iron Man simulator.” Dollars to donuts they are using some of this for the Motive Iron Man game.
  • Sniper Elite 5 (75%, $22.49) – Not really AAA fare, but feels satisfying to off someone and see their head explode.

The First Descendant Season 1 “Invasion” Launches Aug. 29; New Content and Trailer Blast Out

While Nexon hasn’t been shy in releasing game updates for The First Descendant, the studio is about to release the first major content drop for the game, and it’s due on August 29! The First Descendant Season 1 is titled “Invasion,” and feature a new descendant in Hailey, a new “Invasion” dungeon, new Void Intercept Battle with the Death Stalker and more!

Read on for a roundup of the new content and the trailer.

The First Descendant Season 1 “Invasion” New Content:

  • New Descendant: Hailey – Rising from a supply soldier in the guerilla unit is Hailey, a legendary sniper.

  • Armed with an anti-material sniper rifle, sub-zero bullets, and a storm snare, Hailey eliminates enemies with a single, devastating shot.

  • Her unique ability to lower her body temperature and emit cold air gives her a chilling edge in battle.

  • New “Invasion Dungeon” – Occurring randomly in two dungeons of the Hard Difficulty Infiltration Operations, players will have a choice between the existing operations or the all-new Invasions. Designed to disrupt the Descendent’s operations, these dungeons are perfect for speedrunning enthusiasts. = The faster players clear the Invasion, the greater the rewards.

  • New Season Growth: Inversion Reinforcement – Upon encountering the Iron Heart, Descendants undergo a powerful Arche resonance phenomenon, unlocking new potentials and abilities known as Inversion Reinforcement. With Inversion Reinforcement, Descendants will be granted new incremental powers in hunting, attribute, recovery, survival and seasons that increase as players progress through the season

  • New Descendant: Ultimate Freyna – Freyna has harnessed the power of Arche’s toxicity, evolving it into a formidable weapon. Now, as the newest Ultimate Descendant, she makes her powerful entrance into Albion.

  • New Descendant Story: Freyna – This season, players can delve into the gripping backstory of Freyna and her haunting “Room Zero Trauma” skill. Will Freyna conquer her inner trauma? Discover her journey in the Season 1: Invasion update.

  • Void Intercept Boss Battle: Death Stalker – In the darkness of the Void, Death Stalker, a being far more powerful than any Colossus encountered before, lurks and hunts down the Descendants. Emerging from the shadows, it unleashes attacks laced with venom and horror. To protect Albion from Death Stalker’s threat, players must uncover the mysteries hidden in the darkness and intercept Death Stalker.

  • Ultimate Weapon: Excava and Frost Watcher –

  • Excava is a versatile weapon that combines the unique versatility of an assault rifle with a powerful charged shot. As you attack enemies, it charges voltage, which can then be converted into an energy grenade with a precise shot. This powerful weapon can be obtained as a Battle Pass reward and is also available through the free Battle Pass rewards.

  • Frost Watcher is a scout rifle obtainable through Season 1 content. Ideal when paired with Viessa and Hailey, it reduces chill resistance and enhances the damage of the player’s chilling skills.

That’s not all, as Nexon also teases, “Many more updates and additions, including a mysterious trade agent, are making their way to Albion.”

Same as always, once the patch is out, expect MP1st to have it up ASAP alongside the official patch notes and details.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards and Map This Week August 16

Destiny‘s Trials of Osiris weekly PvP mode has returned this Friday with a new map and rewards. If you’re wondering about the current rotation, we’ve got you covered: MP1st’s new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week August 16, 2024 post lists down all that information in full below.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week August 16, 2024:

Trials of Osiris Map:

Dissonance

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: Aisha’s Care (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Persistence Reaching seven wins rewards the weekly Adept weapon. When you are not in a full fireteam, losses following a win remove the win from the card. Reaching seven wins without losing a match grants access to the Lighthouse. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. Forgives a second loss if you have not yet been flawless this week. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Wealth Increased reputation from match wins on a ticket. 2500 Glimmer
Passage of Confidence Grants bonus rewards from Flawless Chest. 5000 Glimmer

What’s a Xûr?

Xûr, Agent of the Nine, is an eccentric merchant who randomly appears in a Public Sector on one of the Worlds. Xûr offers Exotic equipment and only takes Legendary Shards as payment.

TL;DR: He’s the Santa Claus of Destiny and every weekend is Christmas. Sometimes he brings you what you want, sometimes he brings you coal. Mostly it’s coal.

When does Xûr visit?

Xûr visits every Friday at 17:00 UTC and departs at Weekly Reset (Tuesday 17:00 UTC). If you would like to see all the live conversions of Time Zones, please follow this link here.

(Thanks as always, /r/DestinyTheGame!)
