Report: Bungie’s Feedback Led to Cancellation of The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Project, Clarifies Destiny 3 Rumors

In case you didn’t know, The Last of Us Part 2 originally had a multiplayer component being developed at Naughty Dog that was set to be released sometime after the game’s release. However, after receiving advice from Bungie, the project faced cancellation, leaving many to speculate on the reasons behind this decision.

Jason Schreier from Bloomberg provided clarity on this situation. He revealed on X/Twitter:

Bungie gave Naughty Dog feedback that Naughty Dog found extremely helpful when making what was likely a very smart decision to not go all in on a service game.

This feedback was crucial in guiding Naughty Dog’s choice to halt the multiplayer development.

The cancellation of The Last of Us 2 multiplayer project might have disappointed some fans, but it appears to have been a wise move. Schreier highlighted the struggles of single-player studios transitioning to live service games, citing Anthem, Suicide Squad, Marvel’s Avengers, and Redfall as examples.

Naughty Dog had previous multiplayer successes, but Bungie’s feedback suggested that dedicating too many resources to a live service project could be risky.

People lamenting this cancellation should really look at the history of single-player studios pivoting to make service games such as Anthem, Suicide Squad, Marvel’s Avengers, Redfall, and so on

In a related clarification, Schreier also addressed rumors about Destiny 3. He confirmed that Destiny 3 was never in development, debunking claims of its cancellation. Bungie had worked on an early spinoff project called Payback, which was canceled.

Just to clear up some rumors floating around, Destiny 3 was not canceled because it was never in development, per people familiar. Bungie did some very early work on a spinoff project called Payback, but they canceled that a while ago

This latest update from Bungie is concerning, but the studio’s strong focus on Destiny and Marathon offers hope for the future. Even if Destiny 3 isn’t coming soon, we should still be seeing support for Destiny 2 for a long time.

Marvel Rivals Closed Beta Cheaters Banned and Named; 190 Accounts Listed

Given how Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game, the chances of it having cheaters is very, very high given how hackers and cheaters have done the same to other F2P titles like XDefiant, Call of Duty: Warzone and more. Well, it seems the ongoing closed beta wasn’t spared, as NetEase banned about 190 Marvel Rivals closed beta cheaters!

The studio announced and even named (sort of) the guilty accounts, and even gave the reason for the ban, with most cheaters using third-party software to cheat (think: aimbots, wallhacks and the like). If you can’t access your account and see your name below, then yep, NetEase caughty ya!

According to NetEase, they take the issue of cheating “very seriously” and combating cheats is a top priority for the devs. This is very encouraging news, as even if this is just a closed beta, the developers have already whipped out the ban hammer to smite these annoying and inconsiderate people that ruin the fun for everyone.

Stay tuned to our review of the closed beta hitting the site soon! For those looking forward to the retail release, you might not want to play it on Xbox Series S, as the game’s graphical quality declines a fair bit compared to the other versions.

Report: Black Ops 6 Gameplay Footage Featuring Omnimovement, Weapons, HUD and More Leaked

It’s another year, and that means another dose of Call of Duty leaks! This time around, it’s not just screenshots of Black Ops 6 that seeped through the cracks, but actual Black Ops 6 gameplay footage has leaked!

We get to see how omnimovement works, the guns, some attachments and even killstreaks/scorestreaks! The footage was uploaded by Twitter user betterthanalaix with seemingly more on the way. However, I’d advise you to watch it ASAP, as Activision’s legal hounds are seemingly taking down the videos as I write this. Note that we cannot verify if the footage below is from the latest build or an early build, so for now, take it with a grain of salt.

I suggest checking out betterthanalaix’s account, as they seem to be answering people’s questions as well. If you don’t want to spoil anything that’s not official, the multiplayer reveal is officially taking place at Call of Duty Direct this August 28, and once that’s over, the beta will commence, which you can read more about here.

As for gameplay details, there’s already a lot known about it. We already reported that streaks (both kill and score) won’t loop, and a dedicated melee slot for your loadout has been confirmed. When it comes to omnivement, Treyarch has mentioned how it’s not meant to make the game faster, and it’s also not meant to widen the skill gap among players. As for the game’s campaign, expect it to be as long as your standard Call of Duty story experience per Treyarch.

Black Ops 6 will be released this October 25 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Report: Former Naughty Dog and COD Devs’ “That’s No Moon” Studio’s First Early Screenshot of Third-Person Shooter Game Unearthed

It’s not often a new independent studio’s in-development first project can generate anticipation, but this is the case with That’s No Moon. Founded in 2021 by veterans from Infinity Ward and Naughty Dog, the studio caused a stir from the beginning due to speculation that their debut project could be related to the Star Wars universe. This speculation arose because, in addition to the studio’s name being a clear reference to the franchise, it was discovered that their first project would be based on an existing popular IP. However, publication Inverse later debunked the idea of a new Star Wars game.

According to That’s No Moon, their first project would be a third-person action-adventure AAA single-player game, which thanks to job listings we know is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. Despite these initial pieces of information, not much has been known about the title, until now, since we have uncovered details that give us an idea of what the game will be like, including an exclusive glimpse at the game through the screenshot of an early prototype.

A first look at the genre of the game

First and foremost, we know that it will be a military-themed shooter, which makes sense considering the developers’ experience with games like Call of Duty. This information comes from a mention in the resume of a motion capture actor who, curiously enough, worked on the COD franchise, hinting at the theme of the game by listing a soldier as his character.

Additionally, in the summary of a Technical Rigging Artist, we can see listed the project as “Unannounced AAA Shooter,” further supporting the idea that the game will be a shooter. There’s also mention of vehicles, alongside technical aspects like cloth simulation and physics, aspects of which we can expect a lot with the power provided by Unreal Engine 5.

Now for the interesting part, we present you an early look at the game. Taken from the 2022 reel of a VFX artist at That’s No Moon.

The artist, whom we will refrain from naming to protect their privacy, shows us a soldier in a desert environment facing various pieces of furniture, including a table that the player appears to have destroyed. At the bottom of the screenshot, we can see a text box with dialogue from a character named Branch, potentially the player’s character, saying ‘Stop moving, trying to kill you.’ Additionally, we see the weapon UI and the currently equipped weapon, which appears to be a SCAR. Finally, in the top left corner, there seems to be a health bar and a stamina bar, with two empty slots positioned above them.

Since the screenshot comes from the reel of a VFX artist, we can assume that the pic is set in an environment made to test effects and although it comes from a build that is two years old, with an UI that is clearly unfinished, this first glance gives us a good idea of what the team at That’s No Moon has planned for their debut title.

Once unearth more details about the project, we’ll let our readers know.

EA Sports College Football 25 Review – It’s Back In the Game

Eleven years may seem like a long time between entries in a game series, but it somehow felt even longer with the NCAA Football franchise due to the annual nature of the genre up to that point. Starting as Bill Walsh College Football in 1993, and eventually changing the name to NCAA Football, the series ran every year for 20 years before essentially being forced to stop due to ongoing litigation over player names, images, and likenesses. After the rules change in college football to allow the players to make NIL deals to make money off of their in-game interpretation in the last few years, EA Sports started working on bringing back the series and it has made its triumphant return with another name change from NCAA Football, to now as EA Sports College Football 25.

A Long Awaited Comeback

Many were worried that College Football 25 would just be a reskin of EA’s Madden football franchise, as that series has become more incremental in its changes (think: copy and paste) in recent years to the disappointment of many. However, EA Sports instead took things in a different direction by starting from scratch and building a college football game at the core. This starts with the presentation first and foremost and extends throughout every nook and cranny of the game.

There is just something special about college football and the gameday experience. As a lifelong diehard University of South Carolina fan through the good and bad years, it’s hard to beat a gameday in-person at your favorite team’s home stadium. EA Sports looked at this idea and used it as a major factor in the design of College Football 25 by making each stadium’s atmosphere and traditions as true to life as possible. This isn’t even to mention the level of detail they spent on the stadiums themselves to make them replicate the real-life versions.

The developers behind the game made a point to get as much detail into each stadium as they could based on information provided to them by each school, which you can tell all the way from stadiums in the SEC down to those in the Sun Belt Conference. This doesn’t mean they are all perfect though, as one thing they messed up with my Gamecocks is the inclusion of fans waving black towels instead of white towels, which is a major part of the South Carolina atmosphere. There have been others that they have already patched since launch, so I’m hopeful little things like this will be fixed over time.

EA Sports College Football 25 also did a great job at getting a number of music tracks, whether it’s bands playing songs for their team or licensed music tracks like “Sandstorm” and Mo Bamba.” On the downside, there are still many missing like South Carolina’s “2001” and Virginia Tech’s “Enter Sandman” which would be great to see added in subsequent entries after they prove it’s worth paying the cost. The menus even have a drumline continually playing to fit the collegiate theme.

Gameday Atmosphere

One major element that the NCAA Football series has always had over Madden is the gameday atmosphere in the game and how much that can impact things, which has returned once again here with Stadium Pulse in College Football 25. Certain stadiums in the game that are known for their tough atmospheres such as LSU’s Death Valley and Michigan’s The Big House are daunting places to play on the road. Not only is it harder to get audibles and changes at the line to accurately happen, but the play call preview on the field is often inaccurate or at least hard to read with the icons when the stadium is rocking. This is also greatly affected by the momentum of the game as well. I remember specifically playing a game against Penn State on the road online against someone and the first few drives were really tough. Once I started to score a few times though, it quieted the crowd down and I had much less trouble except for big third downs. The realism of moments like this really felt impactful and was something that Madden as a series has always lacked.

The very reason that kept the series on hiatus for so long was finally resolved with the introduction of NIL for players, and now that means real life player names are used in the game as long as they opted in before the release of the game. Gone are the randomized names or just numbers of players, even though they were usually based on real-life players regardless, and in are the actual rosters minus any unenrolled freshman at this point. Likely those players will get added through in-season updates, which are expected to happen based on the performance of teams. There is nothing to write home about with the player designs themselves, as they did not do true face scans like they did with Madden, but the players have the names and should match with height, weight, and general stats as well to where it feels like you are actually using them. The one oddity still is that coaches are completely left out of the game still, so you just have random coaches instead of the real ones. I’m sure there is a reason for this, but I’d like to see this change in the future for realism’s sake.

The atmosphere and presentation is top-notch and all, but this game could have been seen as a total failure if the gameplay was just a clone of Madden, especially with how different college and pro ball can be. Thankfully, EA Sports College Football 25 feels like a natural progression from the previous iterations of NCAA Football with the large variety of play types including the more college-focused air raid and option game styles. College always has had a faster tempo and speed to that of the NFL and this game manages to reflect that while also not feeling like a complete overhaul of everything players may be used to in Madden anyways. Little things like having a much more efficient hurry-up system that is often how some college teams play every drive makes a big difference here and I could not be any happier with it.

College Football 25 and Madden Differences

The major change to the gameplay here is the inclusion of a new passing system where there is a meter that ranges from blue, yellow, and red depending on how long you hold down the throw button. By doing this, you will get accurate, less accurate, and even less accurate throws to your target, which reminded me a bit of what you’d see in other sports games like MLB The Show with pitching or NBA 2K with shooting the ball. I have always enjoyed a meter-based system, though it does take getting some used to not trying to hold it down to near the end of the meter for the best throw, as you instead need to release quicker to get the best throw, which is very different from pitching in MLB The Show.

The kicking game also has implemented a similar meter system where you hold it down, but here the goal is to aim and then hold it down to try to get as close to the top without hitting the top of the meter. This has made field goals much less automatic in the game, especially in intense moments online where the game is on the line.

EA Sports College Football 25 has a few different game modes to choose from besides the standard Play Now option. Those who need to get some training in can do so through Mini Games or Open Practice, which is probably smart to get the hang of the new passing mechanics, though you can also just learn on the fly in-game as well.

The often single-player modes in the NCAA series like Dynasty and Road to Glory are always at the forefront compared to Madden where they often feel like an afterthought, so it was nice to see how much the developers spent on making these special and distinct in this returning entry. Dynasty lets you start as either a head coach, offensive coordinator, or defensive coordinator and build your team towards making the College Football Playoffs and winning it all. You can pick any team here, with you able to select your favorite team, a top-tier contender, or even try to take a low-level school to heights never seen by them before, which is what makes this so cool.

For Dynasty mode, I personally have an offline Dynasty going as head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks as my team, while I also have an ongoing online Dynasty with eight of my friends where we all picked teams with ratings below 80 to try and build them to greatness. This is where all the fun really comes into play, as you not only play the games but also have to recruit against the other schools or even other members of the Dynasty if you are doing one online. Recruiting is a tough process and sometimes doesn’t work out with some players, but the system EA Sports has implemented here is very addicting and adds a lot to the mode between games. The major downside here though is that recruiting in Dynasty mode has had some major bugs since launch, some more annoying than others. EA Sports has been proactive at patching these and says they are continuing to work on fixes, so this is something that shouldn’t be a problem for too long if things work out as planned.

The game’s solely single-player mode is once again known as Road to Glory, where you get to create your own player and play through their entire college career. You can choose between a five-star elite prospect, a four-star blue chip prospect, a three-star contributor prospect, or a two-star underdog prospect. While you may not want to feel like you are cheesing the system by going with a five-star player, this mode is more suited for that if you want to have much playing time. Picking a two-star often means you barely get to play and will have your career over in no time unless you are very lucky.

After selecting a star rating, you get to pick your position between QB, HB, WR, MLB, and CB. From there, each position has three archetype options that provide you with varying stats and physical abilities. You must then design the look of your player, which honestly was very lackluster. The face templates are all way too similar and it felt like they could have offered a lot more options. At least there are a lot more options than for coaches in Dynasty though, where you have very few options to choose from and only two clothing options.

Similar to how Dynasty requires you to do recruiting beyond playing your games, Road to Glory has a lot more for your player to worry about than just the games. Your player has five meters to worry about each and every week, including Academics, Leadership, Health, Training, and Brand. Not increasing or keeping these meters high can cause your player major issues, including ineligibility in the game of academics, downgrades in stats, or a number of other ways. This is even more interesting now with the ability for players to earn money through NIL during the season, as there are dialogue options you get to make that can impact some of these as well. You also have energy points to spend each week that can help increase stats such as Academics or replenish your Health meter if your risk of injury meter has diminished. You also have to worry about Coach Trust each week, with your moments in practice and the weekly game greatly affecting this ranking. By raising Coach Trust, you can move up the depth chart and solidify your position on the team. All of this can seem like a lot beyond the field, but it’s a unique way to keep this game mode fresh throughout your player’s career.

Running to the End Zone

The major fault I found with Road to Glory is the inability to make play calls outside of getting a few change the play call tokens each game as a QB.  The play calling AI in this mode is often pretty moronic, such as running the ball on third and long way too often. It would be nice if you could make more changes than you do, but the game wants to be more realistic with the coach calling instead of your player. This often makes you feel like the outcome of the game is entirely out of your hands and will end up losing games where you playing spectacularly regardless.

Road to the CFP is a new game mode in EA Sports College Football 25, but it is essentially the game’s equivalent of ranked online matches against other random players. Rather than just having leaderboards though, the game adds a little wrinkle into the mode by tracking your matches in groups of 10. After 10 games, if you have accumulated enough points to advance to the College Football Playoff, you’ll enter a single elimination bracket akin to the real playoffs and get the chance to win the championship and have it added to your profile on the leaderboard.

What I love about the online ranked system in this game is that it actually rewards you for using lower-tier schools and even allows you to match up against teams in a specific tier. The teams are split into one of three tiers, so you can select a team in Tier 2 and be guaranteed that you will match up with a Tier 2 team if you want. Playing with your favorite team that is not as high ranked is always an issue in games like this usually, but here you can pick your favorite team regardless of the tier and then select to play only teams in that tier so that you don’t have a Coastal Carolina vs. Alabama matchup unless you truly want a challenge.

One of the few really frustrating aspects of EA Sports College Football 25, which may have just been a gameplay choice or oversight, is the inability to select a different playbook online in Road to the CFP or unranked friend matches. The different playbooks at your fingertips, including the ability to create custom ones, is something that is part of the fun in this series and is present throughout the rest of the game. When trying to play online though, you are locked to the specific playbook of the team you have chosen. Outside of online, I much prefer using the Multiple playbook and would love to use it online instead, but the developers for some reason made the choice to disallow this. Hopefully, enough outcry about this will cause them to patch this eventually, as there is really no reason not to allow this here.

The last game mode found in the game is easily my least favorite with EA Sport’s moneymaker, Ultimate Team. This mode has always felt very scummy with the microtransactions in Madden and the now-named FC series, and they are really about the same here as always. The goal is to build a team of players using cards you collect by opening packs, which you have to buy using currency in the game. It is possible to grind and play without spending real money, but unlike MLB The Show’s Diamond Dynasty, you really have to be prepared to invest some real-life money if you want to play this mode. One thing I did like about Ultimate Team in the game though is the usage of former players for colleges that normally you wouldn’t see, with EA Sports likely being able to use them here due to their inclusion in Madden already. There still are a bunch of notable alumni I would like to see, so maybe I’ll check back into this mode once there are more available there to take a trip down memory lane.

Verdict

Finally being able to retire my old copy of NCAA Football 14 for Xbox 360, I was so happy to find that EA Sports College Football 25 was all I wanted and more in its return. There is still room to improve in some areas like with the bugs or additional game modes in the future, but this is a fantastic jumping back on point for the franchise after more than 10 years. For anybody who loved the original series or is just tired of the usual Madden formula, EA Sports College Football 25 may be just the game you’re looking for as it is a love letter to what makes college football so special from the bottom to the top.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • Captures that real college football feel
  • Varying playbook and gameplay options
  • Dynasty recruiting system and customization
  • Road to Glory’s multi-faceted approach
  • Tier-based online matchmaking option

Cons:

  • Cannot change playbooks for online play
  • Road to Glory play calling AI

Larian Nearly Made Baldur’s Gate 4, Partially Playable but Abandoned Due to Development Time Concerns

Larian Studios, known for its work on the Divinity RPG franchise, and of course, Baldur’s Gate 3, nearly developed Baldur’s Gate 4 before deciding to cancel the project. Initially, the studio considered creating an expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3, as they had the necessary engine and assets in place. However, Larian CEO Swen Vincke explained in an interview with PC Gamer that the project eventually evolved into the idea of a full sequel.

Vincke revealed, “You could already play stuff,” indicating that Baldur’s Gate 4 had reached a partially playable state. He noted that the team was initially open to continuing the series due to the immense success of Baldur’s Gate 3. “So if something is super successful, obviously everyone’s asking, When are you going to make the next one?’ Vincke said.

Despite the initial progress, Larian decided against spending another three years on a new installment. “We didn’t want to risk overextending ourselves,” Vincke said.

In related news, Larian is now working on two new RPGs, marking a new chapter for the studio. In March, Larian Studios’ founder Swen Vincke announced they have no plans for Baldur’s Gate 3 expansions or sequels, moving away from the franchise to pursue new projects. The decision to move on from the Baldur’s Gate series has left fans both disappointed and hopeful for what Larian will create next.

New Darksiders Game Confirmed by THQ Nordic

Remember Darksiders? The hack-and-slash action game that kicked off with the first one in 2010 that starred War? Well, it seems the franchise is back, as THQ Nordic has confirmed a new Darksiders game is in development!

The announcement was part of the THQ Nordic Showcase that aired today, and while there’s no gameplay, title or any pertinent info released, we do know that it’ll feature the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse; as to what capacity, we have no clue.

From the PlayStation Blog, the trailer reveal had this little bit of info:

The ominous rumble of a chamber impossibly old. Scorching ash suspended in the air, spewed forth by roiling lava.

Three colossal stone heads, suddenly set ablaze with otherworldly flames. The Charred Council awake, and roar a single word in unison: Horseman.

It’s currently unknown whether this is a reboot of the franchise, Darksiders 4, or an entirely new entry that turns it into a live service game (hopefully not), though given what the teaser announcement shows, this seems like a straight up sequel since it shows the Council.

What we do know is that it’s being developed by Gunfire Games, which is comprised of former Vigil Games staff members who worked on the original games. Given how great Remnant 2 turned out, this is definitely good news, as the game is in good hands.

Brief rundown of the Darksiders franchise: The first game was released in 2010 and featured War, while the second game was released two years later in 2012 and starred Death as the protagonist. The last mainline entry was Darksiders 3 released in 2018, and featured Fury. Sadly, we didn’t get the planned fourth mainline entry game which was set to star Strife. What we did get was a spinoff game titled “Darksiders Genesis,” which was a top-down action game that featuresd Strife and War, and this game was developed by Airship Syndicate.

We’re excited as you for this new Darksiders game, and once we know more, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Game Informer to Close After 33 Years in Circulation

While gaming magazines have gone out of style for over a decade now, there’s one that still manages to churn out one issue after another, and that’s Game Informer. Not only did we get new issues every month, but the publication managed to tie it in with their website in a way that made sense.

Well, that’s about to change, as Game Informer has announced that they are closing their doors after 33 years in circulation! The announcement was made by the magazine’s official Twitter/X account:

Game Informer debuted as a print magazine back in 1991 via FuncoLand as an in-house newsletter. Since 2000, Game Informer was operating under the ownership of GameStop, which bought FuncoLand in the same year. Aside from monthly issues, Game Informer also featured “cover story” features for in-development games, and this usually showed behind-the-scenes footage, early info, developer interviews and more.

As someone who grew up reading video game magazines, this is a sad day indeed. I know gaming news is super easy to obtain now and it’s free, but waiting for a magazine, reading through it and whatnot was an experience that unto itself that’s hard to top.

We wish the staff at Game Informer nothing but the best.

Xbox Series X|S Price Increase Implemented in Japan

It is no secret that Xbox has faced a series of challenges in selling its consoles in recent years. While the hardware has not been as successful worldwide as Microsoft would have liked, the situation in Japan is  — for lack of a better term — complicated. To date. approximately 600,000 Series X|S units have been sold since launch. To make things worse, it has been revealed that this console will increase in price in this region.

According to Famitsu, the Xbox Series X|S will increase in price starting from August 15. The increase will be 12% for the Series X and the Series S 1 TB, while the Series S 512 GB will increase by 17%. The new prices in Japan will be:

  • Xbox Series X: 59,978 yen (tax included) → 66,978 yen (tax included)
  • Xbox Series S 1TB (Black): 44,578 yen (tax included) → 49,978 yen (tax included)
  • Xbox Series S 512GB: 37,978 yen (tax included) → 44,578 yen (tax included)

Microsoft has indicated that this is the result of a market analysis. This means that the price increase is a consequence of the poor state of the yen compared to the dollar at this time. This is the second time this has happened, as a price increase for the Xbox Series X|S was also reported in January 2023.

For now, it is unknown if Microsoft plans to make similar moves in other regions or not. However, this can be seen as something negative, especially in a region where the PlayStation 5 significantly outsells the Xbox Series X|S.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards and Map This Week August 2

Destiny‘s Trials of Osiris weekly PvP mode has returned this Friday with a new map and rewards. If you’re wondering about the current rotation, we’ve got you covered: MP1st’s new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week August 2, 2024 post lists down all that information in full below.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week August 2, 2024:

Trials of Osiris Map:

Javelin-4

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: Incisor (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Persistence Losses following a win remove the win from the card. Reaching seven wins rewards the weekly Adept weapon. Reaching seven wins without having a win removed grants access to the Lighthouse. This passage cannot be used to focus Adept weapons. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. Forgives a second loss if you have not yet been flawless this week. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Wealth Increased reputation from match wins on a ticket. 2500 Glimmer
Passage of Confidence Grants bonus rewards from Flawless Chest. 5000 Glimmer

The First Descendant Update 1.14 for Patch 1.0.6 Released This August 2

Here’s something weird for today, it seems Nexon has released two patches for The First Descendant this August 2. Those on consoles will see two file downloads or if you’ve loaded the game late, then you’ll see the two patches merged together. The First Descendant update 1.14 (PS5 version 1.014 — yes, it happened on PS5 as well), brings in performance improvements, Battle Pass, mission fixes and more.

The First Descendant Update 1.14 Patch Notes for August 2:

Patch Details

Content Improvements

– An indicator will be displayed when a slot item that already expanded the relevant slots to the limit is included as bundle content, making it easier to check.

– Also, the price of the slot item will be deducted from the overall bundle price before the purchase, if the number of the slots already reached the limit.

Optimization Improvements

– [PS5] Improved some CPU load issues.

Bug Fixes

1) Battle Pass

– Fixed an issue where the acquisition of Supply coin as a reward for Season/Weekly Challenge was not possible.

– If you completed the Season/Weekly Challenge before the patch, you will receive the Supply Coins upon logging in after the update.

2) Mission

– Fixed an issue where fewer monsters were being spawned during the “Fortress Outskirts” mission in White-night Gulch.

– Fixed an issue where outposts would start without cooldown.

– Fixed an issue where monsters were respawning abnormally at certain outposts.

※Please note that taking advantage of system errors or specific actions to gain higher benefits than intended will be considered abnormal gameplay behavior.

3) Descendants

– Fixed an issue where Jaber’s Turret removal was intermittently not possible

– Fixed an issue where the taunt effect of “Jayber’s’ Medical Turret” enhancement would intermittently not work.

– Fixed an issue where “Valby” and “Ultimate Valby”’s “Clean Up” skills would not end.

– Fixed an issue where the relevent effect would not appear around Viessa’s legs when using her skill “Frost Road”.

– Fixed an issue where “Kyle” was not able to use his skill “Superconductivity Thrusters” if his max HP exceeded a certain value when his level was between 22 ~ 25.

– Fixed an issue where “Kyle”’s damage from “Superconductivity Thrusters” would increase abnormally when using modules that apply status effects.

– Fixed an issue where “Yujin” had to equip a lower-level reactor to achieve higher healing output when the power of his skill was low, rather than using a higher-level reactor.

4) Equipment

– Fixed an issue where motion would continue if a player maintained the zoom state while the “Single Reload for Peace” effect of the “Peace Maker” was active.

5) Module

– Fixed an issue where the “Grappling Hook” could intermittently be used beyond its range when the “Mid-Air Maneuvering” module was equipped.

6) Miscellaneous

– [Russian] Fixed a UI display error of Pyromanic Sub Quest.

– [German][French][Italian][Polish][Portugese][Russian][Spanish] Fixed an error on “Yujin”’s “Solidarity Healing” skill tool tip.

– Fixed an issue where the newly added Amorphous Material Pattern ‘MutantAA’ tooltip was incorrectly displayed as “Freyna” Amorphous Material in some languages.

Don’t forget, we are going to get the first real update (not a hotfix) for the game very, very soon. This should bring in Season 1: Invasion towing with it a slew of content as per the roadmap.

Report: Ex-Bungie Staff Has No Animosity for Sony, States “Alternate History” of Sony Not Buying Bungie Would Mean Insolvency for Studio

Following the recent announcement by Bungie that they’re laying off 220 employees, some might be shifting the blame at parent company Sony who acquired Bungie back in 2022. It seems, that’s not the case, as former Bungie staffers have spoken out, and from what was shared, Sony’s acquisition was actually a good thing for the studio.

Speaking to veteran journalist Stephen Totilo, numerous ex-Bungie staff members who wished to remain anonymous have opened up a bit about Bungie’s predicament. While some might look at Sony’s acquisition as the driving point for the recent layoffs, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Four ex-Bungie staff members have said that they have little animosity for Sony over the job cuts, and the blame mostly falling on the management of the studio for promising unrealistic growth.

One “well-connected” former worker at Bungie claims that the alternate history where Sony doesn’t buy Bungie would be worse, stating, “The alternate history is insolvency.” For those not familiar with the term, insolvency refers to situations where a debtor cannot pay the debts they owe, which often leads to a bankruptcy filing.

The ex-studio members point the finger of blame at Bungie management who allegedly have overstated their studio’s financial prospects to Sony. One insider even thinks Sony overpaid for Bungie adding, “I think Bungie sold things they were just not able to deliver.”

According to two ex-studio members, Bungie repeatedly missed financial targets promised to Sony, and what’s more, the studio has apparently been losing money since the release of Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion back in February 2023. Speaking of Destiny 2, the ex-staff members also claim that the game’s latest expansion, The Final Shape, didn’t sell as well as Lightfall, though even if it did, it wouldn’t have stopped the layoffs from happening according to three former studio members.

Sony’s acquisition of Bungie was Sony Interactive Entertainment’s immediate foothold into the live service market, and no doubt, share its knowledgeable to the other first-party PlayStation studios.

While the ex-Bungie members weren’t named (understandably so), we’re going to go out on a limb here and trust what has been told given Totilo’s history of accurateness in reporting.

Nintendo Switch Has Sold Over 143 Million Units Worldwide

Nintendo Switch has hit a new milestone, selling 143.42 million units globally, as per the latest financial report. The company sold 2.1 million units between April and June 2024. Despite this achievement, sales have dropped by 46.3% compared to the same period last year.

Software sales have also seen a decline, reaching 30.64 million units in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025, down by 41.3%. This drop follows the exceptional performance in 2023, driven by the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Nintendo Switch is now in its eighth year, and with the announcement of its successor, it’s understandable that sales are slowing. As we look forward to the next version of the Switch, rumors suggest a possible launch in March 2025

Despite the overall decline in sales, some games have continued to perform exceptionally well, contributing to the console’s long-term success.

Top-selling games on the Switch are:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 62.90 million units
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons: 45.85 million units
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 34.66 million units
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 32.05 million units
  • Super Mario Odyssey: 28.21 million units
  • Pokémon Sword/Pokémon Shield: 26.35 million units
  • Pokémon Scarlet/Pokémon Violet: 25.29 million units
  • Super Mario Party: 20.84 million units
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: 20.80 million units
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe: 17.61 million units

No word yet on when we’ll get to see the Nintendo Switch 2 announced, but we’re hoping it’ll be soon.
