PUBG Corp has acknowledged the PUBG down reports and server issues players seeing this June 1. This seems to be affecting the PC version of the game only.

XDefiant KBM Support for Consoles Confirmed, Dev Shoots Down Battle Royale Inclusion

For those who played the XDefiant beta on consoles and were hoping for a way to play it using keyboard and mouse (KBM), you’ll be able to do so possibly when the full game launches or soon after, as XDefiant KBM support for consoles has been confirmed to be part of the controller options.

This was confirmed by XDefiant Executive Producer Mark Rubin where he mentioned that it might make it launch, but if it doesn’t, it’ll come soon after.

Answering another fan on Twitter, Rubin also shot down any ideas of a Battle Royale mode being available in the game, and cites that while he doesn’t like battle royale games, he feels that trying to do too much ends up sacrifcing the overall quality of the game.

Lastly, in what should be seen as good news, Rubin also said “no thanks” when it comes to pay-to-win stuff being implemented in the free-to-play game.

Personally, I agree with Rubin’s choices. We have enough battle royale games and XDefiant doesn’t need to be another bandwagoner when it comes to that. I’d rather the studio focus on making sure the core 6v6 experience is the best it can be rather than trying to shoehorn every game mode they can.

As for the P2W stuff, let’s hope that whatever’s happening in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 now isn’t something we’ll see in XDefiant ever.

Bobby Kotick: Activision Will Be Just Fine If the Microsoft Merger Is Blocked; Company has $12.6 Billion in Cash

Activision’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, talks about all things Activision in a new interview, including addressing the company’s harassment complaints, the Microsoft merger, and more.

First and foremost, Kotick talks about how Microsoft is the perfect fit for Activision stating that “Microsoft is by far the best place for us (Activision) to be.” Kotick adds, “I like the company, I like the culture. I’m really scared about the economy — compensation for talent has been ratcheting up in ways that are complex for us to deal with. So this deal made a lot of sense.”

However, Kotick says, if the deal does not go through, Activision will be just fine as the company has $12.6 billion in cash, and an additional $3 billion that Microsoft will have to pay as a breakup fee, which is a lot of money to fall back on. Kotick says that he has “a great company.” He adds, “We have an enormous amount of momentum, and we have an extraordinary balance sheet. And we can continue to be successful alone like we have been for the last 30 years. But it’ll be great if the deal goes through because I think it’s the right thing for our industry.”

The uncertainty about the deal going through by Kotick comes from the antitrust regulators in the UK and US suing to block the merger. As per the initial draft, Microsoft and Activision require approvals from both these jurisdictions before they can go ahead and close the merger.

Although the CMA and FTC have blocked the merger, Microsoft is determined to close the deal. It has filed an appeal in the UK and is legally battling the FTC later this year so they can overturn their decision. But, it still seems like a long way to go before the deal closes, thus explaining why Kotick might be a little unconvinced.

Moreover, Kotick addresses the complaints about harassment and violence in Activision Blizzard King. Kotick says that the company has “had every possible form of investigation done, and did not have a systemic issue with harassment — ever. But what we did have was a very aggressive labor movement  working hard to try and destabilize the company.”

Kotick defends his stance by saying that he wouldn’t be sitting here if any of the “inflammatory narrative was truthful. No board of directors in a noncontrolled company is going to allow the CEO of an enterprise to stay running the enterprise if those things were truthful,” he says after pointing out he owns less than 5% of Activision shares and does not control the company through voting rights.

It seems like things with Activision and the labor movements (especially the Communications Workers of America) have cooled down in recent months. The CEO touches upon this by saying that they have “worked thoughtfully and productively with the CWA, and we’ve engaged in a dialogue that will be beneficial for our people, the union and the company.”

Report: Black Ops Cold War Exploit Lets Hacker Gain Access to Player’s IP to Crash Game

For those playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (regardless of platform), you might want to stop doing that right this moment, as it seems your IP address might get compromised. It’s been reported by multiple players that a Black Ops Cold War exploit is circulating now that lets a hacker gain access to another player’s IP, which they can then use to crash their victim’s game.

Even reputable Call of Duty YouTuber Xclusive Ace has mentioned it in a new video, and based on his research, this is happening to just Black Ops Cold War and not the other Call of Duty games.

CharlieIntel has also announced the issue too:

Unfortunately, Activision (and Treyarch) has remained mum regarding the exploit and has provided no acknowledgement or timeline for a fix. Mind, Black Ops Cold War was just released this 2020 and even saw a release on the newer consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S). Speaking of consoles, this has been confirmed to be affecting consoles too (unlike previous hacks that were on PC mainly), and turning crossplay off will still affect gamers.

If you really, really want to play Black Ops Cold War, we suggest using a VPN, or better yet, don’t risk it, as people who have your IP can impersonate you, steal your info, find your exact location and more. In short: it is totally not worth the risk.

Given how recent Black Ops Cold War is, chances are Activision will be doing something with this and once we hear of anything about it, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

“Blank:” New Studio From CD Projekt Red Veterans Teases Character-Driven Game With Apocalypse Setting

A group of veteran CD Projekt Red developers has founded “Blank,” a Polish game studio that seeks to build novel, “beautifully crafted” titles. The studio’s first project is a “character-driven game” with an apocalypse setting, though further details have not yet been revealed.

Blank’s founders are Cyberpunk 2077 game director and The Witcher 3 co-game director Mateusz Kanik and both titles’ executive producers Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow. The studio is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, and its 10-strong team primarily consists of former CD Projekt Red and 11 bit studios developers. The team is looking to expand to almost 60 people to support development on the upcoming unannounced project, which will have “a twist or two.” The studio also shared a piece of concept art for the project:

Six Days in Fallujah Releases This June 22 via Steam Early Access, Full and Console Release in 2024

Remember Six Days in Fallujah? The first-person shooter that ruffled a few feathers given its subject matter? It seems not only is the game not dead, but Victura and Highwire Games have announced that Six Days in Fallujah releases this June 22 on Steam Early Access.

Priced at $39.99, the full version of the game will launch sometime in 2024 alongside the console versions previously announced.

Six Days in Fallujah will feature four-player co-op missions set in urban maps that are “generated procedurally every time the game is played to recreate the uncertainty of combat along with unlimited replayability.” To understand what the devs are saying, check out this video showcasing this feature.

Six Days in Fallujah Info:

Six Days in Fallujah is a highly realistic first-person tactical shooter developed with help from more than 100 Marines and Soldiers who served in the Second Battle of Fallujah, as well as more than two dozen Iraqi civilians and soldiers. Based on true stories from the battle, Six Days requires players to overcome real-world scenarios with their fire team by using real-life military tactics.

“The way we play video games right now is not how people fight in real life,” says Sgt. Eddie Garcia, a Marine who was wounded during the Second Battle of Fallujah.  “Six Days in Fallujah requires tactics and teamwork that are more like real combat than any other game I’ve played.”

Six Days introduces many new technologies that make combat more realistic:

  • Procedural Architecture re-shapes the inside and outside of every building each time the game is played. Just like the real battle, players never know what to expect.
  • Block-scale AI is a dramatic new approach to AI based on insurgent tactics from the battle. Unlike games in which AI is constrained to move in very small areas, AI enemies in Six Days can go anywhere on the battlefield, and they will stalk, flank, and ambush players while coordinating their attacks with each other and luring players into difficult situations.
  • Global Dynamic Lighting simulates real weather and lighting effects dynamically, so visibility shapes gameplay, especially as players move between blindingly bright outdoors and terrifyingly dark indoors. Realistic smoke, dust, and weather effects complicate visibility in unpredictable ways.
  • Tactical Indoor/Outdoor Sandbox. Players — and their AI enemies — are free to approach challenges from any direction in Six Days in Fallujah. Rather than breaching a house through a front door, for example, players might choose to climb to a rooftop, or cross rooftops on wooden planks, to attack from the top down.

Sony has now revealed the PlayStation Plus Free Games for June 2023, consisting of three titles that PlayStation Plus subscribers can redeem starting June 6 through July 3 to keep forever. The June games are NBA 2K23, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and Trek to Yomi.

Following the release of a mysterious teaser titled [REDACTED] last week, Team17 and Absolutely Games have now unveiled “Classified: France ’44,” a turn-based strategy game set in WW2-era France in the months leading up to D-Day in June 1944. The game is set for release at some point later during 2023.

Absolutely Games’ debut title allows players to take different combat and strategic approaches over the course of 45+ campaign missions, with a special morale system that plays into each combat choice. Players build a team of Allied combatants and determine the game’s ending at D-Day through the choices they make throughout the campaign. From the developers:

Classified: France ‘44 is a new turn-based strategy game, set in World War II during the desperate months leading up to the Allied invasion of France in June 1944.

Take charge of a special-ops team of Allied commandos and French resistance fighters. Recruit elite operatives to build your squad, then engage in a sweeping campaign of sabotage and destruction. Deal with competing factions to build the resistance network and strike at German targets deep in occupied territory. However, the more chaos you cause, the more you’ll draw the merciless attention of the Gestapo secret police.

In exciting missions inspired by the exploits of the Allies and French, the game expands on turn-based tactical concepts, bringing authentic World War 2 combat to life. The campaign allows for multiple playthroughs that are different each time. For those who really want to test their skills, our rich Mission Creator tool allows players to create, share and download custom missions.

Classified: France ’44 will be supported post-launch with updates and expansions, and features a Mission Creator as well as mod support. The game will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam sometime during 2023.

Update Details

▼ Set the opening of the Public Test Server (PTS) and the off-season period!

Prior to the start of Season 3, the Public Test Server (PTS) where players can try out new Raiders, Survivor Skins, and other content early and for free, will be available for a limited time. You can join this event by selecting “Go to Public Test Server” from the title screen. Also, the period between this patch going live and the start of the next season will be an off-season to give us time to prepare for Season 3.

*No new Dragon Tiers or Challenges will be added during the off-season.

We will be regularly adding limited-time events during this season where you can get rewards by clearing the events’ exclusive tiers.

▼ Knockback Gauge

The Knockback Gauge has been added for all Raiders. With the addition of this gauge, the Raider will not knockback until the gauge runs out after getting a certain amount of attacks from Survivors.

▼ Vehicle Skin Spec Update

We have updated the game so that if a player has a skin set for vehicles, that change will be reflected for existing vehicles on the map when they ride them. Vehicles that have been left without a rider will revert to their default appearance after a certain period of time.

*If a player rides a vehicle with a different skin set by another Survivor, the appearance will change based on the settings of the current player riding it. *Vehicles that have been brought into the game with special skins will not change.

  • Along with the implementation of the Knockback Gauge, the damage for the “Full Power Energy Blast Volley” and “Crazy Finger Shot” Super Attacks has been lowered.
  • Adjusted Spopovich to be treated as his own character when playing as Raider Majin Buu. He will now have his own health bar, like Nappa and other similar characters.
  • Adjusted the Raiders so that there is no delay after landing from a high position.
  • Regarding the Escape Time Machine and Signal Beacon that appear during the Search Phase when there are only 3 or fewer Survivors remaining, if they are destroyed as a result of area destruction, they will now reappear depending on the remaining number of areas and Survivors.
  • Adjusted the signal display so it won’t disappear over time. If a new signal is used, the previous signal will still disappear as always.
  • For objects that require players to hold down a button to interact with them, the interaction will now begin if they hold down the button when they are near the object.
  • Regarding the Raider Eradicator medal in battle results, the experience points gained when scoring a knock back on a Raider have been increased.

*Adjusted due to the addition of the Knockback Gauge.

  • Slightly lowered the amount of damage from the “Justice Rush” Super Attack to be in line with similar super attacks.
  • Backpacks can now be equipped on costumes where they previously could not be used.

Multiplayer

  • Dedicated servers – Players will no longer be kicked out of 16-player multiplayer games with error 12011.
  • Crossplay – Players will no longer get the timeout error 12011 when trying to join each other’s lobbies via the invite code and browse menu.
  • Players will no longer get the error 12011 message when attempting to join a lobby using PS4 through browse (and vice versa).
  • Microsoft platforms – A number of issues have been resolved regarding player attempts to host/join any co-op game, axis invasion, or multiplayer quick match.

Sony Being Investigated by Romanian Antitrust Regulators for Abusing PlayStation Store Dominance

Sony is being investigated by the antitrust regulators in Romania (Romanian Competition Council) for concerns regarding Sony abusing its dominance in the console gaming market. Romanian Competition Council has highlighted two possible dominance abuse examples inlucing PlayStation selling its game through the PlayStation store only and the organization banning rival third party websites from gettting activation codes for PlayStation games.

The antitrust regulators say that Sony may have abused its “dominant position” in the console gaming market by selling online video games compatible with PlayStation consoles exclusively on the PlayStation Store platform and by “prohibiting the sale of game activation codes video compatible with PlayStation consoles by competing distributors.”

Due to these practices, Sony reduces the buying options for gamers, leading them to increase or inflate the prices of games. Romanian Competition Council has also highlighted the fact that majority of the Romanian gamers prefer PlayStation and approximately 1.3 million console video game users and 127 video game development studios are affected by this practice of Sony.

The Competition Council has launched an investigation into a possible infringement of the competition rules by Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited and its subsidiaries, Sony Interactive Entertainment Network Europe Limited and Sony Interactive Entertainment Direct Europe Limited – together referred to as Sony – in the video game distribution market for PlayStation consoles.

The competition authority has indications that Sony may have abused its dominant position in the video game console market both by selling online video games compatible with PlayStation consoles exclusively through the PlayStation Store platform and by prohibiting the sale of game activation codes video compatible with PlayStation consoles by competing distributors.

These practices would have reduced the purchasing options for PlayStation-compatible video games, leading to higher prices for video games for this type of console. Another effect of these practices is the discouraging of Romanian studios from developing video games compatible with PlayStation.

Sony’s PlayStation brand consoles are preferred by Romanian gamers, according to public information, in Romania there are approximately 1.3 million console video game users and 127 video game development studios that would be affected by this possible anti-competitive practice of Sony.

As part of this investigation, the Competition Council carried out inspections at Sony’s premises in Europe to gather information and evidence.

The inspections are justified by the need to obtain all the information and documents necessary to clarify the possible anti-competitive practices analyzed. Doing so does not prejudge the companies’ guilt.

The result of this investigation could lead to Sony allowig third-party retailers to sell its game in its stores, resulting in cheaper PlayStation activation keys. However, it remains to be seen if the regulators are successful in their investigation or not.

In other antitrust news, PlayStation’s competitor, Xbox has also been under the watchful eye of regulators around the globe for its $68.7 billion USD merger with Activision Blizzard King. The company just recently won over regulators in multiple countries including South Korea but is facing scrutiny by the UK’s CMA and the US.

The damage of Blood Moon Twist was significantly improved and made it possible to combo with more skills than before. When it is used with the newly improved Eradication, she will be able to combo with even more skills. With the increased damage of skills and the improvements made to skill combos, we hope to see a larger variety of skills used to defeat monsters.

Hashashin recovered HP mainly by using Prime: Chosen Blade and Conversion. However, it was insufficient in the higher level monster zones. So, we added HP recovery effects to Aal’s Command and Flow: Voracity to improve his sustain. Additionally, we improved the damage of Crown Kick, Falling Collapse, and Flow: Dune Strike for Awakening Hashashin. These are typically used at the beginning of combos while defeating monsters and their efficiency was increased for longer session.

  • Added the ability for Prime: Quicksand to gather all Sand Twisters in front.

Haladie Throw

  • Added the ability to gather all Sand Twisters in front when using Haladie Throw in the air.

Trading Activity

  • The credibility of the [Old Moon Guild Newsletter], which is operated by the Old Moon Guild to deliver trade information, is slowly being recognized by adventurers.
    • Now, the Old Moon Guild has begun to provide more reliable information in the newsletter by writing the content in more detail.
    • There has been an increase in the probability of [Old Moon Guild] information being correct.
      • Adventurers who enjoy trading can now obtain information more intuitively and find that the information provided in the newsletter is more often correct than not.
※ If the information from the [Old Moon Guild Newsletter] about the trade goods of each village is correct, villagers related to the provided information will appear in their designated locations.
  • In the case where a trade item’s cost has been 40% or less of its original cost for 3 market price cycles, the period where which trade items cannot be purchased has been reduced from 7 to 3 days
    • Goods cannot be purchased during this period of time as giant merchant guild of unknown origins purchase all of them when prices plunge.
    • After this period of 3 days, the items will be available for purchase again at their original market price.
In order to engage in trading activities, certain node levels were necessary. This meant that players had to invest Contribution Points into each node and manage them consistently. If connecting nodes were ever disconnected, trade activity would be difficult as players would have to reinvest and reconnect these nodes. In order to solve this inconvenience, we have changed the condition for purchasing trade goods to be based on Trading Levels.

Now you can conveniently transfer items between characters using maids/butlers. We wanted to introduce this feature sooner, but since it involves moving items, it required rigorous testing and verification. Now that it’s ready, we hope adventurers will find it highly useful. We will also keep enhancing the UI for improved item management, including coin management, through ongoing updates and improvements.
  • Added a new feature that allows characters within the same Family to transfer items from one character’s inventory to the inventory of the currently logged-in character.

Introducing exciting changes for workers!

Changes are coming for workers in Black Desert! We’re excited to introduce a series of enhancements to improve your worker management experience:

Firstly, we’ve listened to the feedback of adventurers, and as a result, you can now automatically recover your workers’ stamina by storing food in your Family Inventory. This highly requested feature aims to reduce the manual task of providing food and allows you to focus on other aspects of gameplay.

In addition to automatic stamina recovery, you now have the ability to specify where the harvested goods should be stored after your workers have completed their tasks. Previously, goods harvested by a worker from Velia at Finto Farm would be automatically stored in Velia’s storage. However, with the new update, you can designate a specific destination for the goods. This feature enables you to bring together goods from different production nodes into a single storage location, enhancing efficiency.

We’re also raising the maximum level of workers from 30 to 40. Upon reaching level 40, your workers will unlock a passive skill called Delivery, which allows them to utilize the assigned delivery feature mentioned earlier. To ensure a smoother leveling experience, we have reduced the required EXP for levels 1 to 30. Furthermore, workers will learn new skills at level 35, providing you with more diverse options to utilize your workers effectively. The increase in maximum level also introduces an additional chance for Promotion, offering further progression opportunities. Please note that these updates will be implemented sequentially over the first and second weeks. ※ Lastly, we want to inform you that the ability of each worker will be adjusted due to the automatic stamina recovery and the introduction of new skills. Stay tuned for further details on these adjustments!
  • Added a feature that automatically recovers workers’ stamina through recovery items from the Family inventory.
    • You can activate this feature by pressing the Recover All button from the Worker list.
    • The automatic recovery feature prioritizes the workers’ stamina when it reaches 3 and by the sorting order of recovery items within the Family inventory.
      • A notification will display when there are no worker recovery items in your Family Inventory.
If you want to use the automatic recovery feature upon consuming all your workers’ stamina recovery items, please note the following:
To reactivate the feature, you can either enable it again or use a recovery item at least once. This will initiate the automatic recovery process for the workers.
※ Please note we are planning to implement further improvements to use the above feature without requiring the need for reactivation after the May 31st maintenance.
  • Increased the maximum number of slots available upon using the Family Inventory Expansion Coupon from 50 to 70.

  • Improved the cooking mechanics so that failed cooking no longer triggers your chance of mass cooking activating.
  • Improved the ratio from 1:1 to 1:3 when utilizing the following high-level cooking as an ingredient.
    • Changed the grade of the following cooking materials from green to blue.
    • Changed the Supplied rations on ship for the following cooking from 100 to 240.

When trying to enhance equipment through Boss Gear enhancement content, adventurers were able to obtain crystals through weekly quests and reinforce lacking areas using Boss Summon Scrolls. We’ve increased the rate for obtaining both weekly quests and Boss Summon Scrolls, allowing adventurers to gather the required number of crystals more quickly than before. Additionally, we made a change regarding the crafting materials for Reform Stones. Previously, Opals were in high demand as they were an essential material not only for crafting reform stones, but also for other important content. To address this, we have replaced Opals with other types of crystals for crafting them.

Land of the Morning Light:

Explore a new abyssal pocket that has opened within the Magnus. This pocket episode unveils a new story about Yeonhwa and Wuju, whom you ventured with in the past. Upon completing it, a new abyssal vein will be activated, taking you to the well that leads you to the upcoming new region, the Land of the Morning Light. You can also pre-play this episode to clear the abyssal vein or dive in with the Land of the Morning Light updates.
  • Yeonhwa, who traveled with you in the Magnus, finally managed to find a ship to the Land of the Morning Light. She bids farewell to the adventurer.
    • If you meet the following requirement, you can talk with Yeonhwa and receive a quest to activate the Abyssal Vein to the Land of the Morning Light in Magnus.

Overwatch 2 Pride Event Kicks Off June 1 With New Cosmetics and More

Blizzard has announced a new in-game event is kicking off this week in Overwatch 2! The Overwatch 2 Pride event starts June 1, and as one might expect, this celebrates LGBTQ+ community and inclusiveness regardless of race, gender identification, preference and the like.

The studio will be giving every player that logs in from June 1 with a collection of Player Icons and Name Cards celebrating the event. You can check out the complete list of Name Cards, Player Icons below in the gallery.
