Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare DLC Release Date Announced for July 15

Get ready to brawl it out and take out the bad guys with some new characters and content, as Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare DLC release date has been announced for July 15 — and that’s just a few short weeks away!

Here’s the new trailer showing the survival mode gameplay as well as the release date reveal.

Here’s the overview of what survival mode brings as well as what the rest of Mr. X Nightmare’s DLC contains via press release.
The announcement brings first details for Mr. X Nightmare’s Survival mode, an inventive, immensely replayable challenge for Streets of Rage 4’s most versatile brawlers. Fighters beat down endless waves of foes and earn perks for as long as they can stay alive across two session variations: Random, which keeps each fight unpredictable through generated runs; and Weekly, a series of static gauntlets generated each week.
Each completed level offers two randomized perks to choose from, granting stackable bonuses to power up combatants in unique and devastating ways until they’re defeated. Braving Survival’s onslaughts also permanently unlocks new moves for use across any of Streets of Rage 4’s modes, allowing players to personalize movelists for their favorite characters. Progress unlocks devastating new weapons within both Survival mode and an incoming training mode, as well as gallery content. The mode’s leaderboards keep track of the community’s well-fought runs too; who will be Wood Oak City’s finest fighter?
Mr. X Nightmare bundles the above with the playable debut of Estel Aguirre, fully realized playable versions of Max Thunder and Shiva, and grooving original music from Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania, League of Legends). A separate free update adding an in-depth training system, color palette options, a fiendish New Mania+ difficulty, plus a wealth of refinements and balancing changes addressing feedback from Streets of Rage 4’s passionate community, also arrives on July 15.
If you haven’t played this gem of a revival beat ’em up, read our review of Streets of Rage 4 here and see why it simply is a must play.
Streets of Rage 4 is available on consoles and PC now.

Random Bonus Drops Should be a Part of Battle Passes

Battle passes have become a staple of the games industry. Ever since Epic Games popularized them in Fortnite, allowing players to earn something extra for their time in the game regardless of their win rate, they’ve popped up in every major online game. From Rainbow Six Siege to Dead by Daylight, even unreleased games like Halo Infinite already have them in place. With this in mind, I think that it’s time someone mixed them up a bit.

We all know what we’re getting with a battle pass. There’s a free track that everyone can access. It offers a reward every few ranks, though none of them are that exciting. The only one worth chasing is rank 100, and even that is mired by the equivalent in the paid track. On the subject of the paid track, this is the only track that players truly care about. They can obtain some great-looking cosmetics through it, and all they have to do is play their favorite game. Upon reaching rank 100, they’re given the best cosmetic from the season, but they’ve also acquired all the ranks before as well as everything in the free track.

The tiny buy-in price is what hooks most players with a battle pass. For around $10, you get at least 100 new cosmetics for your game. That’s way more than any cosmetic bundle would give you, and it costs much less. However, it’s starting to get old. At this point, players know that they will have to play the game solidly for about three months to unlock everything they’ve paid for. It’s a huge commitment, especially if there’s a game that a player is excited about coming out in the middle of that three-month period.

That’s why I think there should be a bonus system with battle passes. Just like you can get NZ casino bonuses, battle passes should come with a guaranteed number of bonuses. When these bonuses drop is down to the player, though. Each one would be random, meaning that players might earn an extra rank or secret cosmetic if they play for just one more match. Developers could offer hints that tease players about how to get these bonuses. For example, playing three games might make it more likely to get a bonus, or playing a certain type of match as a specific character could do the same.

Using this method, players feel like there’s more value to their battle passes because they’re getting more than the standard 100 ranks of rewards. Developers can work the system to make players use a certain character or weapon more, allowing them together more data on them for future fixes, or just mix the season up a bit. By keeping players on their toes, everyone will benefit. Everyone loves a bonus, and when it’s a bonus you can go on to use in a game you’ll be playing in years to come, there’s really no downside. The better the bonuses, the more your player base will stick with the game, so it’s in the developer’s interest to make these as enticing as possible and give their communities something to really work towards.

Diablo 4 Quarterly Update Shows Us New Videos & New Art

Blizzard Entertainment is keeping the Diablo 4 hype alive, as it delivered on another Diablo 4 Quarterly Update today. This keeps fans informed on how the development of the game is coming along so far.

For this quarter, Blizzard artists talk about the design process of the characters and enemies in the game, as well as showcase a slew of new screenshots and short video clips! Check ’em out below, and remember: these are not final, and does not represent the final state of the game.

Aside from the videos, there’s a bunch of screenshots showcasing the different body types, armors, and how the game is moving from pre-rendered graphics for cutscenes, to now using in-engine assets.

Our beautiful and iconic hell fiend, Lilith! This is a capture from one of the in-game cinematics rendered in the Diablo IV game engine. This level of detail is now standard for how we present the major NPCs, classes, and monsters in Diablo IV.

We call this our Lair scene. Players will customize the look of their character here in our exciting new Wardrobe system that allows you to mix and match hundreds of armor components unique to your class, alongside custom color palettes to create the class fantasy that best represents your character.

Here’s a .gif showcasing the dye system the game uses for armor pieces.

Every armor set in Diablo 4 has two body types, and here’s a sample of it for the Barbarian class and the Rogue class:

There’s a lot more about the development process, which you can read about here.

Diablo 4 has no firm release date yet, though Activision has said that development is going “very well.” You can watch seven minutes of gameplay right here as well.

Apex Legends Down Reports and Matchmaking Issues Are Coming in Today June 30

It looks like Respawn’s mega-hit battle royale Apex Legends is running into some server and matchmaking issues, as multiple Apex Legends down reports are coming in from players (regardless of platform), and there are even matchmaking issues too.

Apex Legends Down Reports and Matchmaking Issues – June 30:

Over on Reddit, threads regarding the servers are surfacing:

Is anyone else getting the stupid error, I can’t even play a game.
by inapexlegends

People are getting the “leaf” error code as well, so if you’ve gotten that while connecting, it’s not just you. Here’s the full set of tweets regarding it:

In addition to that, if you find yourself being kicked from Trios, Duos, or just have a hard time matchmaking, it’s not you, but it’s the game! Respawn confirmed this just now.

Two updates:

1) The issue with Masters+ Ranked matchmaking may take 72 hours or more to fix due to QA requirements.

2) An issue with the “Frag Out” banner frames for Bloodhound and Rampart is causing game crashes. Unequipping these frames may help—please spread the word!

The @playapex team is investigating an issue that’s preventing matchmaking for highly ranked (Masters+) players.

We’ve identified the problem and are working on the solution now. Will update in this thread when we’ve resolved the issue!

The @PlayApex team is aware of some players being kicked from Trios, Duos, and Arenas matches. We’re actively investigating.

If you’re having a hard time connecting to Apex Legends, or manage to connect succesfully, let us know where you are in the world and what platform, so other players are aware too.

This is bad timing, as the Genesis Collection Event just started yesterday.

Konami and Bloober Team Partnership Announced, Adding to Rumored Silent Hill Project

Earlier this year, Bloober Team, developers of The Medium, Layers of Fear, and Observer, announced that they were working on a new horror game with a “very famous publisher.” Well it seems that “very famous publisher” is none other than Konami, as it has been revealed today that two have entered a strategic partnership to work on content and exchange of know-how.

In a press statement issued by Bloober Team, the studio confirmed that it was pairing up with Konami.

It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work. The fact that such a renowned company as KONAMI has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market.  – comments Piotr Babieno, president of the Bloober Team.

Konami chimed in, stating that they were looking forward to working with Bloober Team and creating high quality content.

We have been providing unique entertainment content and ways to enjoy it through the use of information technology. In the digital entertainment industry, significant changes in the business environment are expected in the future. We look forward to combining Bloober Team’s and our respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents. KONAMI – comments Hideki Hayakawa Representative Director, President Konami Digital Entertainment

This news comes just after many months on ongoing rumors that Konami is currently in production of not one, but two Silent Hill titles. One allegedly developed by Sony and Kojima Production, while the other being either done in-house, or at least with the help of another developer.

Of course that is still a rumor as nothing has officially been announced concerning the IP, although this announcement certainly fuels the flame even more.

We most likely won’t hear specifics on their project(s), but if anything does get announced we will be sure to keep you all posted.

Wreckfest Update 2.11 Patch Notes for June 30; Adds Crossplay, Save Data & More

Bugbear Entertainment has released the Wreckfest update 2.11 June 30 patch (PS5 1.011), and it’s to add crossplay and save data transfer from last-gen to current-gen (PS4 to PS5)! This also adds better graphics to the PC version, and also includes gameplay tweaks and bug fixes.

Wreckfest Update 2.11 Patch Notes for June 30 (PS5 1.011):

HIGHLIGHTS

  • PC: Enhanced Lighting and Visual Effects
  • PS4/PS5: Crossplay and Save Data Transfer
  • XSX: 60 fps on both Series X and S
  • Numerous improvements and fixes

PS4/PS5 CROSSPLAY AND SAVE DATA TRANSFER ON PLAYSTATION®5

We have very welcome news for the owners of PS5 consoles who would like to play with their old crew still on PS4: Wreckfest now supports crossplay multiplayer between PS4 and PS5! We have strived to make finding lobbies as streamlined as possible, so if you’re on PS5 you can create either 16 player or 24 player lobbies and the only difference apart from the player count is that also the PS4 players can join the 16 player lobbies too. Of course as a PS5 owner you can also join the official or user hosted PS4 lobbies, should you so wish.

In other good news, it is now possible for you to migrate PS4 save data to PS5. The workflow to perform the operation is as follows:

1. Connect a USB storage device to your PS4 and go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device. Select the save file you’d like to copy, and transfer it to the USB drive.
2. Unplug the USB from the PS4 and plug it into the PS5. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then select Saved Data (PS4) > USB Drive. You’ll then be presented with the option to Copy to Console Storage.
3. Launch Wreckfest on PS5, and you will be presented with a dialog to migrate your PS4 save data. You can also do it at any time later in the Settings menu.

60 FPS ON XBOX SERIES X|S

If you’re a lucky owner of Xbox Series X|S, we have thrilling news for you: Wreckfest now runs at sweet 60 fps on both Series X (@ 4K) and Series S (@ 1080p). In addition to that, we’ve now improved the way the Upgrade DLC and Bonus Car are handled so both should be now downloaded and installed automatically once the Upgrade DLC is purchased. Furthermore, we’ve also improved the stability of the title so if you’ve been waiting on the sidelines for improvements now it’s a better time than ever to get back on the track and start wrecking!

As always, we’re also actively working on improving the gameplay experience based on the feedback so this this release contains numerous other improvements and additions as well. For example, the frustrating launch delay on PS5 is now gone and loaner vehicles work properly on PC whenever a host restriction is in place (please note that you do need an actual host in the lobby), but we invite you to check out the complete summary of items fixed or improved below.

ENHANCED LIGHTING AND VISUAL EFFECTS ON PC

The PC players now get to enjoy the definite Wreckfest experience with visual enhancements such as next generation bloom and screen-space sun shafts, parallax occlusion mapped skidmark decals, improved ambient lighting with spherical harmonic probes and more detailed shadows, not to mention dynamic dirt on vehicles and higher density foliage. We’re confident to say that wrecking has never looked so great but in case you’re sporting a more low-end rig, no need to sweat since you can tweak the quality of the more taxing enhancements or disable them completely in the game’s Settings menu. While at it, we’ve also updated the networking code and squashed related bugs. Hurray!

Please note that since this update marks a major upgrade on PC introducing some file system related changes, it’s possible that updating the game might not work without hitches. In case you receive the dreaded “data mismatch” error after updating, please verify the integrity of the game’s files by navigating to the game’s library page, selecting first Manage > Properties, then the Local files tab and finally clicking the Verify integrity of game files… button.

AC Valhalla Update 3.21 June 29 Sneaks Out

Ubisoft has sneakily released the AC Valhalla update 3.21 June 29 patch today, and it’s out on all platforms! This is also tagged as the Assassin’s Creed Valhlla update 1.2.2.1, which has been released without much fanfare. It is a small download, so don’t expect much.

AC Valhalla Update 3.21 June 29 Patch Notes:

Ubisoft has not commented on what got added or changed in this patch, but thanks to the community we know some of the new stuff, and what didn’t get fixed.

First off, the known added stuff is the Cougar Mount which is tucked behind the Ullr’s Hunter Pack which is a paid cosmetic! This costs 1500 Helix credits and includes the Gear Set, Weapon, Shield, Mount skin, and Raven skin! Check out what it looks like below.

For a preview of the rest of the items included in the cosmetic bundle, watch it below.

One thing we can confirm that wasn’t fixed is the St. Faith Mystery, which has been confirmed by one reddit member:

Patch 1.2.2.1
by inACValhalla

Sadly, that seems to be it for thsi title update. There are no known bug fixes or new items outside of the new cosmetic bundle.

Don’t fret, though, as Ubisoft has confirmed that more content is coming in Year 2!

EA Names Xbox Series as Official Console for Battlefield 2042, NVIDIA DLSS and Reflex Support Announced

EA and DICE today announced that Xbox would be their official console partner for the release of Battlefield 2042, which isn’t surprising given the gameplay reveal (and past partnership) happened during the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month.

In a press release (via WCCFTECH) the company sent out, EA and DICE outlined a list of all their partners that they will be teaming up with for Battlefield 2042. Some of the notable ones include Microsoft, which EA has named the Xbox Series X|S as the official console for Battlefield 2042. While the game is slated to hit other platforms, what this deal means is that marketing will solely be geared towards that platform.

Further, they have also named NVIDIA as their official PC graphic partner, confirming that Battlefield 2042 will indeed support DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex. No mention of ray-tracing from the press release, though we do expect to hear more on that later. Down below you’ll find a full list of their partners.

  • The Official Battlefield 2042 Console Partner – Xbox: EA and Xbox have partnered to make Xbox Series X|S the official consoles of Battlefield 2042.
  • The Official Battlefield 2042 PC Graphics Platform Partner – NVIDIA: EA and DICE’s partnership with NVIDIA ensures the ultimate PC experience powered by next-gen GeForce RTX gaming technologies, the AI-powered performance boost of NVIDIA DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex’s low latency mode.”
  • The Official Battlefield 2042 PC Peripherals Partner – Logitech: EA and Logitech will work together to ensure players have Logitech integration for their gear, including Logitech’s LIGHTSYNC technology for peripherals and in-game audio presets with optimized EQ for Logitech headsets.
  • The Official Battlefield 2042 Off-Road Vehicle Partner – Polaris: EA and Polaris have partnered to bring players the opportunity to operate authentic Polaris vehicles in Battlefield 2042, starting with the Polaris Sportsman ATV.
  • The Official Battlefield 2042 Gaming Storage Partner – WD_BLACK: EA and Western Digital’s WD_BLACK brand are committed to ensuring Battlefield 2042 gamers have the best possible gaming experience for its vast new world of immersive and realistic maps, and dynamic game play.

Battlefield 2042 will be launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC this October. A public Battlefield 2042 beta is planned sometimes before release, with closed testing starting in July.

Control Is Getting a Multiplayer Spin-Off Codenamed Project Condor

Remedy Entertainment today announced that are extending their partnership with 505 Games, to help co-publish and develop Condor, a multiplayer spin-off to Control.

The news comes from an official press release, with both Remedy Entertainment, and 505 Games confirming that they will once again be working together on a new title. Surprisingly, the new game is being dubbed as “Condor,” and is said to be a four-player cooperative PvE spin-off to Remedy’s 2019 Control.

“We are excited to continue and further expand our collaboration with Remedy. With over 2 million copies sold and revenue exceeding EUR 70 million, Control is an extremely successful game,” say Rami and Raffi Galante, co-CEOs of Digital Bros Group. “As a multiplayer game, Condor has the potential to engage the gaming community in the long run, contributing to 505 Games’ product revenue stream longer than traditional games.”

Condor will be developed using Remedy’s proprietary Northlight engine and tools, and will release on PC as well as the PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. No details on whether or not a last-gen port is being planned, though from the press release that does seem unlikely.

The game is being developed with an initial budget of 25 million EUR, which both Remedy and 505 Games will split, including future revenue.

All exciting, and while fans of Control may be disappointed, there is some good news here as there are plans to expand this out to a more bigger-budget Control-game.

“We have successfully collaborated with 505 Games for over four years and have both become stronger in our respective fields. We are happy to extend and deepen our partnership. This new agreement supports Remedy’s aims to expand our games into long-term franchises, create benchmark-setting games, strengthen our commercial capabilities and collaborate with great partners with whom we can succeed together,” says Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.

No further details were provided, nor a screenshot or trailer to showcase Condor. It’s likely in it’s early stages of development.
