Blue Box Abandoned Screenshots Surface via PSN, Dev Says It Was to “Test PS4 Max Power”

Whle we’re all eagerly awaiting just what the hell is Blue Box Game Studios’ Abandoned really is, it seems more info is coming out of the woodwork, and from the unlikeliest of places, too!

The latest Blue Box Abandoned screenshots have surfaced from the the Hasan Kahraman’s own PSN profile, which he acknowldeged as legit!

Here’s the screenshots posted by Twitter user Joe Miller:

Kahmaran has replied to the apparent Abandoned screenshots leakage, and mentions how “very different” it was back in 2019.

https://twitter.com/HasanEKahraman/status/1423040072039944193

Well, the 2019 version was a lot different back then. But it was to test the PS4’s max power. It was running on PS4 Pro with native 3840 x 2160 resolution targeting 60 FPS with 8k textures. It did work but the PS4 version wasn’t powerful enough to create a full game.

Just over a month ago. Blue Box Game Studios has mentioned that Abandoned wouldn’t (or couldn’t) run on the PS4 due to the game’s visuals.

If you’re confused just what Abandoned really is, don’t worry, we’re on the same boat. Is it a new Metal Gear game? Is it a new Silent Hill? Once we know the official details, we’ll let our readers know.

Activision: We Do “Like Our Position a Lot” When It Comes to Call of Duty 2021 and Its Competition

While Activision has not revealed Call of Duty 2021 just yet, what we do know is, it’ll be going up against stiff competition later this year, as shooter juggernauts Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite are also due for release this holiday, which is when Call of Duty usually is released.

In Activision’s quarterly earnings call, Mattew Thornton from Truist Securities asked this to Activision, and President of Activision Rob Kostich doesn’t seem fussed about it.

Matthew Thornton: Hi, good afternoon, everybody. Maybe this one is for Rob. When we think about Call of Duty, I guess, how are you feeling about this year’s release just in terms of the title itself across multiplayer as well as campaign, but also the cadence and breadth of content to follow? And then just finally, the competitive backdrop given that it’s a little bit of a busier year for kind of AAA releases in the genre, just want to get your thoughts there. Thanks.

Rob Kostich (President of Activision): Touching on your question on competition, I think competition is really out there each and every year for us. And I think we consider it a good thing for the industry and for our players. And to us, it’s not a zero sum game at all. We believe compelling new offerings have the potential to only grow the industry as we move forward. So our focus is really the same as it’s been each and every year and that’s making sure we provide the most fun, the most incredible and the most innovative experiences we can to our community as we go forward. And when we look at the breadth, depth and quality of content and our teams are delivering in Q4 across all our offering, we do like our position a lot, but thanks for the question, Matt.

Given how big the Call of Duty franchise has been for the past decade, it’s easy to see why Activision execs see these new threats as smaller prey waiting to be gobbled up by the Call of Duty hype machine once it’s released. That said, we are in a unique situation though, and with Battefield 2042 featuring what could be a genre-defining feature in Battlefield Portal, the first-person shooter landscape will be quite a sight to see later this year.

Do you think Activision should be worried with COD 2021’s competition this year or not at all? Let us know what you think down in the comments.

Sony Sends Out Gran Turismo Survey in Partnership With Oxford to Discuss Video Games & Well Being

While it’s standard practice for video game companies to send out surveys to gauge player’s reaction, and to know more about its player base, the latest one being sent out by Sony is a little — for lack of a better term — odd. A Gran Turismo survey is being sent out to gamers now, and while it mentions Polyphony’s racing franchise, the survey itself has little to do with the actual franchise.

In the email screenshot which you can see below, it mentions that Sony Interactive Entertainment is assisting the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford to understand how the “well-being of individuals relates to video games.” Acccording to the survey, Oxford would like to hear the voices of Gran Turismo Sport players, and that these surveys will amount to three in total, spread over several weeks.

Here’s part of the survey’s disclaimer and description:

Understanding the Effects of Video Game Play on Well-Being Over Time
We (researchers at the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford (“OII”)), with assistance from Sony Interactive Entertainment, are investigating how playing video games relates to well-being. In this survey, we ask you to report your feelings and motivations, which will take about 5 to 10 minutes. We will ask you to fill in this survey three times: now, in two weeks, and in four weeks. To understand how playing video games relates to your wellbeing over these three occasions, we will link your survey responses to data about your gameplay received from Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The survey itself does talk about Gran Turismo Sport, but not on feedback on certain features, but rather, how long you played it, how you felt completing the game’s challenges and so on.

In other Gran Turismo news that’s more gaming-related, the Gran Turismo 7 beta test mention has surfaced on Sony’s website, though details are scarce.

Gran Turismo 7 is set for release for the PS4 and PS5, though it has no definite release date/window yet.

COD Mobile on Track to Exceed $1B in Consumer Spending for 2021; New Studio Formed for New Mobile Title Set Within COD Universe

It looks like Call of Duty Mobile (COD Mobile) is still raking in the big bucks at parent company Activision! In the publisher’s latest quarterly earnings call, Activision President and COO Daniel Alegre commented on how COD Mobile consumer spending is “on track” to hit a whopping $1B this year!

In addition to that, Alegre also confirmed that a new internal studio has been formed within the company to develop a new mobile title set within the “Call of Duty universe” with the help of Beenox and Activision Shanghai.

Call of Duty Mobile is on track to be $1 billion in consumer spending for the year and as we continue to optimize the title, we’re also investing in mobile capabilities with a singular goal to create the best mobile experiences for our community. We have established a new internal mobile studio and are aggressively adding mobile resources across several team including Beenox and Activision Shanghai. Together these teams are leading the development of an unannounced new mobile title within the Call of Duty universe that we expect will help take the franchise to new heights. – Daniel Alegre, Activision President & COO

For those wondering, COD Mobile was developed by TiMi Studios which is owned by Chinese company Tencent. Could this new internal studio crafting a new COD game for mobiles be a move by Activision to have better control of their property on mobile devices? Or is this something that would supplement COD Mobile?

What would you want to see from Activision regarding a new Call of Duty mobile game? Perhaps something similar to Warzone? Or something else entirely? Let us know down in the comments.

The latest season of COD Mobile has launched this June 28, and you can read more about it here.

Ghost of Tsushima Legends Standalone Release Coming to Southeast Asia, “Rivals” Mode Out on Sept. 3

While Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is set to slash its way out in just two weeks, Sucker Punch Productions has not forgetten about the game’s multiplayer mode, Legends! Today, the studio announced the Ghost of Tsushima Legends standalone release for Southeast Asia, as well as more freecontent coming to the game later this year!

The new mode coming to Ghost of Tsushima Legends is called “Rivals” and will drop on September 3! This is a free update, and will include new Trophies and cosmetics, even. Check out the trailer and official description for Rivals below.

In Rivals, two teams of two will compete to defeat waves of enemies. With each defeated foe, you’ll collect Magatama that you can use to harm the other team. For example, you can spend Magatama on Shades to block your opponents’ purchases, Curses (health drain, exploding bodies, etc), Hwacha fire, and more. Once you’ve spent enough Magatama, you’ll unlock Final Stand waves. Complete these before the opposing team to win!

Alongside the release of Rivals is the new Gear Mastery system. This is a new chapter of the progression and rewards for Legends. Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate “Mastery Challenges” that will allow a gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120, and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As players activate these Challenges, they will alos be able to unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class!

Outside of these two new additions, players can also expect smaller new features and changes based on community feedback. Survival mode has been rebalanced to shorten the session length, and there are new weekly Survival Nightmare challenge variants, too.  Sucker Punch has also unlocked additional cosmetics in Legends for players who’ve earned them in Jin’s story and New Game+.

Sucker Punch has also announced that a new piece of content is being added each week from September 10 through October 1! The new content will come in the form of an additional Rivals map, new Survival maps inspired by Iki Isand and Iyo’s realm, and Trials of Iyo, a new harder difficulty version of last year’s Raid that offers challenges in bite-sized chunks as wel that offers a new set of online leaderboards.

As for the standalone release, it’ll be released digitally on the PlayStation Store for SGD 26.9 / MYR 89 / IDR 289,000 / THB 690 for both PS4 and PS5. Outside of some cosmetics that can only be unlocked by playing the single-player campaign, the Ghost of Tsushima Legends standalone release will include all teh content released previously, and will, of course, allow players who own it to play with those who own the full game. For those that buy this standalone release and want to upgrade to the full game, they can do so by upgrading to the Director’s Cut at any time for SGD 53.00 / MYR 160 / IDR 590,000 / THB 1,300 (PS4) or SGD 71.00 / MYR 210 / IDR 740,000 / THB 1,600 (PS5).

We’re definitely excited to check out where Jin’s latest adventures will take us, but I have to admit, this new content coming for Legends is very intriguing too.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be released this August 20 on PS4 and PS5.

Activision: People Are Our Greatest Asset, Couldn’t Be More Committed to Improve Work Environment for All Employees

With Activision in the gaming hot seat due to the workplace toxicity and “frat boy” culture that has surfaced recently, Activision-Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick even opened the publisher’s latest quarterly earnings call by addressing it.

Aside from Kotick, Activision CFO Armin Zerza also commented on the situation during the financals report, and mentioned how “people are our greatest asset,” and how the company “couldn’t even be more committed” to improving the work environment.

We understand that our people are our greatest asset. These are the people responsible for our continued strong performance. We couldn’t be more committed to ensuring and improve this work environment for all our employees, as well as for long-term sustainable growth. We will be working with our team to improve our company together to become the most inspiring and inclusive entertainment company possible.

Hopefully, this isn’t just some empty and canned PR response to everything that’s going on, and the people in charge are actually doing something about it.

Everything We Learned From the Halo Infinite Technical Test

With the Halo Infinite Technical Test kicking off this past weekend, and giving us or first taste of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer (albeit with bots), we learned quite a few things even if this is an alpha (or beta), and a small slice of the things to come in the final game this holiday 2021.

Fortunately, we got an invite to test it out, and test it we did! We clocked in more than eight hours of playtime busting bots, learning the new movement speed, and more. If you want a handy list of facts based on actual hands-on, you’ve come to the right place!

Everything We Learned From the Halo Infinite Technical Test:

  • The main title theme kicks ass, ’nuff said.
  • Halo 5 featured thruster and Spartan Boost. Although the beta doesn’t feature either, under the control settings there is hints that Thrusters will be making a return in some form as it can be assigned to a key. Potentially campaign only or a field pick-up during multiplayer.
  • Sprint speed has been adjusted from Halo 5. Walking feels more like a viable option, and is barely slower than sprinting. Gives it a Halo classic feel.
  • Overall movement feels grounded, tight , and responsive. Going back to that Halo classic feel, it’s comparable to say more Halo 3 and before rather than the later titles.
  • Auto clamber (climbing ledges) can be turned off in settings for those not a fan of it.
  • You can ping locations, enemies, and weapons.
  • Vehicles will be able to perform tricks per game settings.
  • Theatre/Observer Mode is confirmed as making a return via in-game settings.
  • Push to talk and text chat exists.
  • Xbox Series console has two modes to select from – Quality and Performance. Performance opts for better FPS while quality has higher resolution and overall better visuals.
  • FOV confirmed on consoles.
  • Speed lines can be disabled if you aren’t a fan of that, along with motion blur.
  • You can set sensitivity level for every type of ADS and scope view.
  • Battle Pass – The season 0 BP had 31 rewards with 20 tiers total. Some tiers can consist of anywhere between 1-3 rewards. For comparison, Halo: MCC seasons typically consisted of 100 tiers with 100 rewards. The exception are Season 3 and 4 where they were only 50.
  • BP also works differently. Whereas in Halo: MCC BP progression is earned from just playing with rewards being unlocked by earning Season points from completing daily and weekly challenges, Halo Infinite ties progression to XP earned from completing these challenges. Rewards are just unlocked as you make your way through the tier. This may change of course.
  • Weekly challenges can be swapped out by using challenge swaps token. Unsure how to get more.
  • There is a reward for completing all the weekly challenges assigned. From the test, this was a new color shade.
  • Grappleshot allows you to grapple to any reachable in zone spot, as long as it’s within range. You can also grapple to teammates and enemies, as well as use it to  grab the Gravity Hammer.
  • Depending on the movement the player is doing this will also effect the Grappleshot. The slower the momentum the slower you move, and the faster it is, the fast you’ll go.
  • Because of how some of the physics work in the game, you can chuck a grenade at the Gravity Hammer to send it flying. If you are skilled enough, you can follow up with a Grappling Hook to reel it in towards you as it gets propelled from the grenade.
  • There are small animals roaming the maps. Bazaar specifically had rats along with some chicken lookin creatures. They can be shot at.
  • Test maps were small and followed a three lane system.
  • Test maps also had a good amount of verticality, and contrary to one Jedi the high-ground did not always provide the best advantage.
  • There are some secret routes scattered on the maps that break away from lanes.
  • Most action is in the center, though it can quickly be moved to different sections depending on the map.
  • Power weapons/equipment spawn on a timer, one at a time. If killed, it can be retrieved from other players.
  • Power weapons/equipment were typically placed near focal points of the map where most action would happen, though some were out a ways to try and lead fights elsewhere.
  • There is alternative fire modes on power weapons such as the S7 sniper with zooms, heatwave with different spread, and more.
  • You can pick up and drop weapons. Pushing right on the d-pad will drop your currently equipped weapon. Prior Halo games only allowed you to swap one weapon with another. This is useful if you picked up a power weapon but wanted to hand it off to someone else.
  • Weapons you pick up also display a bit of information before picking them up, such as damage type, firing rate, and a few other important things.
  • Like power weapons, weapons that are placed on the wall of the maps also are on a respawn timer which is indicated by a blue bar above them.
  • Hitting down on the d-pad will perform a AI scan, which scans the map for weapons, pick ups, and teammates.
  • Physics: Explosives, melee, and strong impact shots have pushback. On players this will produce a rag doll effect. *343 Industries please don’t change this
  • There are a number of objects that can be destroyed. There’s are very small objects such as wooden crates. They feel independent as they can break up into smaller parts.
  • Fruits on the other hand, if grouped, all explode. They are considered one object rather than individual. Not a major thing since you won’t really notice it during gameplay.
  • There is a ton of customization available to players. They can edit types of armor Spartans are wearing, the coloring of it (so no more two team colors only,) to even the visor on the helmet itself!
  • Players can also select different AI models who will narrate things during the match. The test had four available, and each of them had different voice actors. You can watch a video of them here.
  • Outside of the PVP/PVE game modes, the tech test also offered “Weapon Drills”. These were a series of challenges that players can do in order to familiarize themselves with a specific weapon. Thing almost like a gun range.
  • Bots came in two types of difficulty, ODST and Spartan. There was a huge difference in Bot behavior between the two, with Spartan being the higher difficulty the bots would tend to be more aware of enemy players. They would also travel in packs, whereas in ODST it was more common to find them solo.
  • Bots would throw grenades in attempt to flush you out, or push you towards them so they could follow up with a melee. A lot of times, you will not find them stationary and in some regard, show some strategy in their behavior.
  • Opinion – I think players will be happy with how the bots are handled in Halo. While they are sometimes super easy, other times they proved to be quite formidable. They had a good balance overall where weren’t for the obvious bot names, you could easily confuse them for real players at times.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Modes

  • Slayer Bots (available during test)
  • Slayer PvP (available during test)
  • Stronghold (Not available in test though spotted in a weekly challenge)
  • Capture the Flag (not available in test though spotted in a weekly challenge)

Campaign Related Details

Nothing from any of the datamined here, just some confirmed mechanics via the settings.

  • Fast travel has been confirmed and is accessed via Tacmap while in-game.
  • You can hotkey Tacmap, upgrade, database, and other campaign menus.

Note, the weapon and vehicle list is solely based on what was available or seen in the technical test meaning this does not represent a final list in anyway. Vehicles were not usable in the test, though they did appear in the customization window.

Halo Infinite Current Weapon List

  • MA40 Assault Rifle
  • Pulse Carbine
  • BR75 Battle Rifle
  • VK78 Commando
  • MK50 Sidekick

Report: COD Warzone Next-Gen Versions Coming in Season 5

For those playing Call of Duty: Warzone on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and hoping for a proper next-gen release, it looks like the wait won’t be long now, as new info has surfaced stating that this could happen as early as Season 5’s launch, which is set for August 12!

Twitter user BreadisModding spotted that Raven Software used a tinyurl link for each each season’s patch notes page. For Warzone Season 5, it was “tinyurl.com/WarzoneS5,” which when typed in a browser leads to Raven Software’s website though it’ll show this image for now (given the patch notes aren’t live yet):

While that landing page might seem innocent enough, the actual URL isn’t, as you’ll see it show up as:

Can’t see the image? It shows: “https://www.ravensoftware.com/community/2021/08/call-of-duty-bocw-warzone-season-five-patch-notes-next-gen-launch.” As you can see, there’s “next-gen launch” in the patch notes domain name. Unless Raven Software has put it in there to troll with people, it does seem like the Warzone next-gen versions are indeed set to drop this August 12 when Season 5 starts for both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone!

With the next-gen versions, players can probably expect faster loading times with the new consoles’ SSD, and maybe a possible frame-rate bump. We won’t know for sure until Raven Software makes an announcement, which we’re assumming will be soon given August 12 is but a week away.

What do you want to see from the Warzone next-gen versions? Sound off and let us know down in the comments!

Thanks, ModernWarzone!

Street Fighter 5 Summer Update 2021 Reveals Release Date for Oro and Akira, Luke is the Final Character for Season 5

The Street Fighter 5 Summer Update 2021 event just concluded, and it reveals the release date for Oro and Akira, and announces that Luke is the final character for Season 5,

With lots of gameplay footage and character information delivered during this stream, Capcom has showcased what powers and skills the next two DLC fighters will show off as they join the SF5 roster! Check out the gameplay for Oro and see how he fights against himself in a mirror match that demonstrates his abilities!

As for Oro’s background, Capcom details what the returning Street Fighter 3 character will offer via press release.

After a long journey away, Oro the wandering hermit from the Street Fighter III series is returning in Street Fighter V ready to share his wit and wisdom with anyone who’s interested. Wearing a modest purple robe and brown rope belt, Oro swaps his pet turtle between his right and left hands as a way to challenge himself and maintain a balanced fighting style. Oro retains many of his original moves and adds a handful of new ones for Street Fighter V, making him an immensely powerful fighter for players to master.

Next up is a fan favorite character from Capcom’s other brawler series Rival Schools — the high school biker lady fighter Akira! She’s got a lot of moves that pay homage to the 3D fighting game series that is essentially a spin-off of the Street Fighter universe, and you can check out how she kicks butt alongside her older brother Daigo in this gameplay footage!

Here’s Akira’s overview from Capcom’s official press release.

Making her highly-anticipated Street Fighter debutAkira Kazama began her fighting game career in the Rival Schools series, which began in 1997. In Street Fighter VAkira dons her trademark black biker gear and prides herself on being the strong, silent type. That said, her playstyle speaks volumes when she’s at close range, but she’s also equipped with some long-distance moves that will leave her opponents thinking twice about straying too far. With plenty of new tricks up her biker gloves, Akira has been studying up and will be ready to school anyone who crosses her path.

Also, check out both fighters matching up against one another in this video below.

As the Street Fighter 5 Summer Update states, players will be getting their hands on Akira and Oro starting August 16 as part of the Season 5 DLC content and Premium Pass!

But wait there’s more… Check out the reveal trailer and see the reveal of the brand new fighter called Luke!

As described by the Street Fighter team, Luke is going to represent the future of Street Fighter going forward — and as the last character to join the roster before they officially wrap up Street Fighter 5, he looks more than ready to take on any challengers that come his way! Here’s what the developers have to say about the 45th character of SF5 via press release.

Revealed by Street Fighter V Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto during Summer Update 2021, Luke is the fifth character for Season 5 and marks the final fighter added to Street Fighter V, bringing the total roster to 45. This brand new character will help expand the world of Street Fighter and provide fans with a glimpse into the future. Based off the brief gameplay video that was shown, Luke is a fighter that specializes in moving fast and hitting hard, so opponents will need to be on high alert and brace for impact. More backstory information and gameplay details will be shared leading up to Luke’s November 2021 release.

Black Ops Cold War Season 5 Cover Image Teases “Vanguard” in Kanji

The next season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (and Warzone) will be starting soon, and outside of Season 5, it looks like Activision is starting to tease this year’s Call of Duty title as well.

The cover image of Black Ops Cold War Season 5 has a bunch of numbers, symbols and even Japanese (kanji) letters in the background, and it looks like it’s not just random stuff strewn about! One eagle-eyed Call of Duty fan spotted (@EricMaynardII) that the the writing “ヴァンガード 来たる” translates to “Vanguard coming.”

Black Ops Cold War Season 5 Cinematic Trailer Features the New Operator, Starts Aug. 12

Activision has released the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 cinematic trailer, where we see the new Operator in action, as well as the new theme of the season which seems to be hacking — which is apt for those playing Call of Duty Warzone!

It seems the leak earlier this week was legit, which means the details revealed alongside it are too.

As for when players can expect the free content drop, which we presume comes with a few new maps, weapons, Battle Pass and more, Season 5 starts this August 12, and chances are, PlayStation gamers will be able to pre-load the season beforehand. Of course, this means that Warzone will be getting a new season, too, and let’s hope it brings anti-cheat measures alongside the new content.

We should be getting more info about Black Ops Cold War’s Season 5 within the week, and once we know more, we’ll let our readers know.
