Battlefield 2042: EA Looking to Build Long-Term Interaction & Relationship With BF Users Versus Selling a Game This Year

While Battlefield publisher EA (Electronic Arts) hasn’t had the best reputation when it comes games, it seems to have learned from some of its past mistakes, and instead  of cashing in on players initially with game purchases, it’s now seeking to establish a long-term interaction with them — at least when it comes to Battlefield 2042.

In EA’s quarterly financials call, EA COO & CFO Blake Jorgensen mentino how they are looking for a long-term interaction with consumers rather than just selling them a game this year. Jorgensen adds that they are looking to build a “long-term relationship” with Battlefield fans rather than just selling them a game (BF2042) this year.

You’re going to hear a lot more over the next couple of months about Battlefield live services, in-game monetization and so forth. I can’t tell you all that now, but trust that the team is working very hard on this, and they have some very unique ideas about what we can continue to do, what Andrew just said, to create this as a long-term interaction with our consumers versus simply selling a game this year. And we want to build a long-term relationship as we have with Battlefield users for a long time. Portal is a perfect example of how that works, and you’ll see more of that and more details about that over the next couple of months. – Blake Jorgense, EA COO & CFO

With Battlefield 2042, EA is introducing a new way to experience the franchise with Battlefield Portal — a new mode/experience that pulls weapons, maps and more from past Battlefield games, and lets players play around within the sandbox with their own game modes and the like. With this new mode, it seems like EA knows this will give the game longer legs which is good for the community, though not exactly for the publisher, as there’s the chance that when a new Battlefield game is released, some players might not want to move on given they can still play new modes in BF Portal. That said, this is definitely a step in the right direction for EA, and let’s hope they push through with it.

Evil Dead: The Game Delayed to Feb. 2022, Adding a Single-Player Option

In some not-so-groovy news, it’s been revealed today that Evil Dead: The Game has been delayed to Feb. 2022! It originally was slated to hit sometime later this year, but that idea has been put to rest.

Alongside the release date push back, developer Saber Interactive is also implementing a single-player option into the game, too!

Evil Dead: The Game will be releasing in February 2022
Hey groovy gamers, we’re targeting a new release date to give the team some extra time for polish and to ensure this is the ultimate Evil Dead experience you’re all waiting for!

This additional time is also allowing us to implement a single-player option that will let you enjoy the game when you are without your co-op compadres.

Here are the gameplay details straight from the press release:

Inspired by the iconic horror, humor, and action of the “Evil Dead” universe, Evil Dead: The Game brings the biggest characters from the franchise together in an over-the-top, gore-filled experience against the forces of darkness. Work as a team of four survivors, including Ash, Kelly Maxwell, Pablo Simon Bolivar, Scotty, Lord Arthur and more, to fight the Deadites and banish the vile Kandarian Demon. Or become the mighty Demon yourself, using your powers of possession to stop the good guys dead and swallow their souls!

Battle across memorable sights from the franchise, including the infamous Knowby cabin, brought to life with tons of terrifying visuals and all-new dialogue from Bruce Campbell. Discover more than 25 weapons, including Ash’s Gauntlet, Boomstick, and chainsaw, and level up a variety of skill trees to grow even stronger and survive the night.

You can check out gameplay of Evil Dead: The Game right here.

Riders Republic Beta Available From August 23 to 25

Get ready to test out your skills in a very different kind of sports game, as Riders Republic Beta has been announced and will be available from August 23 to 25!

For what exactly the beta contains, here’s the overview from Ubisoft via press release.

The Riders Republic Beta will give players a first glimpse of 3 careers such as Bike Races, Snow Tricks and Air Sports (Rocketwing and Wingsuit). Players can also compete in multiplayer modes, including:

  • Mass Races: The crazier the better in these epic, multisport races with more than 50 players*. New races appear randomly on the map every hour, so players will need to get ready to watch their blind spots, protect their position and remain agile with their skills as they fight their way to the finish line.

  • Tricks Battle: Compete in 6v6 matchups and try to land as many tricks as possible on the various modules to capture them and earn points. The team with the highest score wins.

  • Free for All: Challenge new opponents and show them how it’s done through a select playlist of events.

  • Versus Mode: Players can join up with friends in their career progression and see who’s the very best.

The beta can be pre-loaded starting August 21, and players will be able to send a beta invite to two friends they can play alongside with.

We reported that Ubisoft pushed Riders Republic’s release date to October, and you can read the details about that here.

You can sign up for the Riders Republic Beta at the official website here.

Back 4 Blood Beta Campaign & PvP Hands-On – Waking the Dead (4K Gameplay)

Later this year, the spritual successor of the Left 4 Dead franchise is set for release with Turtle Rock Studios’ Back 4 Blood. If there’s one studio that can replicate the magic of Valve’s PvE zombie-slaying adventure, it’s Turtle Rock given they are the same developers who developed the game.

Thankfully, players won’t need to wait long to know how it plays, as the beta is kicking off this month! Before that though, we here at MP1st got the chance to play the game in a preview event! We managed to get some time with both the PvE and the PvP modes, and here’s our quick look at it and the game mechanics. The videos embedded are raw gameplay taken fro our playtest sessions.

Turtle Rock Studios granted us early access to Back 4 Blood beta. with a few hours’ worth of playtime spread between PvE and PvP.

New Back 4 Blood Campaign Gameplay

Unfortunately, the AI in the campaign still needs to be worked on, as it usually has no clue what’going on, but that’s why we have betas, right? To iron stuff out. There still isn’t much of an actual story in the campaign for now, but it seems that the newer levels have been reworked to be a bit shorter with more consistent breaks (which is handy if you either have skillless randos or you are dealing with the lovely AI).

First Gameplay Look at Back 4 Blood PvP:

PvP is a blast to play, even with the now limited amount of zombies you can choose. PvP does need some work as it stands now, it’s very repetitive, and feels like it would get old after a few hours of the same scenario. But I imagine (and hope) that we’ll know more content about the PvP mode once we’re near launch to break up the cycle.

The new hub waiting area is a nice place to have target practice with your teammates when waiting for a match, though I couldn’t speculate on how long the actual wait times will be, as only members of the press/influencers were invited to early access of the open beta. We’re curious to know how the matchmaking will be in real-world situations, which we can’t really know until it’s being played by people around the world.

While our time with the beta was short, I really am digging the current direction Back 4 Blood is heading in, and as long as it stays on this path, Back 4 Blood should satiate zombie hunters’ thirst for the undead when it releases on October 12, 2021.

The Back 4 Blood beta is live now (August 5-9) for those who pre-order the game (or get an early access code), while it’ll be open to everyone on August 12 to August 16.

Battlefield 2042 “Forms Foundation” for Live Service; EA Thinks New BF Game Every 2 Years “Makes Sense”

With the return of Battlefield happening later this year with Battlefield 2042, many had wondered if EA had plans to go back to the two-year release schedule they previously had for the franchise, and while it makes sense, the company thinks that players should start seeing Battlefield as a “service.”

Speaking during publisher’s quarerly financials call, CEO Andrew Wilson had this to say about the possibility of seeing a new Battlefield title released every other year.

“I think that is our orientation but more importantly I think you should think about Battlefield as a service.

You know, what we’re doing for the launch of this game is really revolutionising and reinventing what all our epic scale warfare is in the context of gameplay.

In addition to that, we’ve announced Battlefield Portal, which really starts to lean into user generated content and will drive deep, long-term engagement in the game.

And while we’ve announced Hazard Zone, to date we haven’t disclosed a lot about what’s going on there, and you’ll hear more about that in the coming months.”

Furthermore, Andrew talks how Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield Portal, the new announced mode where players can create their own modes and play across classic Battlefield maps, would be serving as the foundation to the future of Battlefield live service.

“You should understand that this really forms the foundation of what we believe the future of live service around Battlefield is, which over time will include a mobile launch, will include some free to enter components, and really change the nature of what happens from launch to launch.

“So that while an every other year launch probably makes sense if we think about it today, we’re really focused on 365-day engagement in the franchise at a platform level across any device that you consumers may want to play on.”

We suppose since Battlefield has always been online focused it does make sense why EA would want to push the live service component of it. Hopefully it doesn’t come at the cost of the user experience.

Fall Guys Update 1.27 Stumbles Out for Fixes This August 5

Mediatonic has released the Fall Guys update 1.27 August 5 patch, and it’s for a small list of fixes! In addition to that, some known issues have been touched upon as well. Head on below for the full patch notes.

Fall Guys Update 1.27 Patch Notes for August 5:

  • Players are now able to move the camera and toggle names on/off during the countdown of all Rounds
  • Players should no longer fall through platforms after mantling in certain levels
  • Volume of ‘Cheering’ SFX in the background of Season 4 levels has been lowered
  • Volume of Lily drums lowered slightly
  • Improved ability to grab Crown in levels such as Lost Temple, where users were mantling and falling through
  • Disappearing crowns for some players has been fixed (thanks to those who reported/tagged here!)

We are still working on the ability to exit between rounds though you might feel slight improvements, the extent of the fix is not where we want it to be just yet, so please hold tight whilst we continue to investigate that!!!

I will update our public-facing issue tracker soon to reflect the above. Many players have been asking about the issues with characters appearing slightly transparent in games – I will make sure that’s added to our trello if it isn’t there already, as that is being actively investigated 🙂

If you spot any issues, report it to the official Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout support page.

King of Fighters 15 Team Super Heroine Theme Hits Like a Queen

Get ready to brawl with some style and elegance in the next entry of SNK’s KOF series, as King of Fighters 15 Team Super Heroine theme literally hits Like a Queen and showcases why its members are fan favorites!

Here’s the theme to listen and check out via the official SNK twitter page,

Made up of characters that have stayed on in the series since the King of Fighters ’94, Team Super Heroine’s members are the ninja warrior Mai Shiranui, martial artist Yuri Sakazaki, and pop idol fighter Athena Asamiya! This of course is an unexpected pairing for the trio, as Athena is usually the leader and figurehead of the Psycho Soldier Team while Mai and Yuri make up two thirds of the Women’s Team! With King joining Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia for this year’s Art of Fighting roster, that leaves Yuri and Mai to accept a new woman fighter into their group — and thus this new all female fighting trio team is born, which a lot of old school KOF and SNK fans have been waiting for!

If you missed out on the Athena Asamiya trailer as well as the reveal of Team Super Heroine, you can check it out here — and it was also the first time Like a Queen was heard in the background!

The King of Fighters 15 is slated for release on PC and consoles in 2022!

Aliens Fireteam Elite Day One Update Includes Horde Mode and More

Looks like Cold Iron Studios has a bit of a surprise for Aliens fans, as it has been revealed that the day one update for Aliens Fireteam Elite will indeed include horde mode along with a handful of visual improvements, and fixes.

Clocking in at roughly 14GB, the Aliens Fireteam Elite Day One update has been pushed out on the PlayStation Network, and with it so has the hefty changelog that details a number of changes and features, including the addition of horde mode. While we confirmed horde mode in our previous hands-on preview, it seems that, at least on PlayStation, it won’t be included on disc but as part of the update that players will need to download at release or part of their digital preload.

Do mind that because this update is released two weeks prior to release, it’s likely that there will be another one added on top of this one. However, these will still be part of the initial update that buyers will still need to download. For those who pre-ordered digitally, this will be included in the initial preload download.

Aliens Fireteam Elite Day One Update

New Features

  • Horde Mode
  • Horde mode is in! Complete the campaign and then talk to Shipp back on the Endeavor to open up this new gameplay mode.

Kits, Weapons, and Combat

  • Balance and difficulty pass for all difficulty levels.
  • “Park’s Store” pricing adjustments.

Enemies and Encounters

  • Xenomorph AI and pathing improvements
  • Population adjustments for multiple campaigns.

Content and Environments

  • Balance and difficulty pass for all difficulty levels.
  • Additional Polish and bug fixing for the end escape sequence in the final mission of “The Only Way to Be Sure” campaign.
  • Targeted GPU/CPU optimizations and performance improvements for PC and all console platforms.
  • Environment and lighting visual improvements across all campaigns.
  • Numerous environment and lighting bug fixes across all campaigns.

General

  • Gameplay and GPU Optimizations
  • Matchmaking stability and bug fixing
  • AI Teammate bug fixing and improvements Localization
  • Support added for:
    • Chinese (Simplified)
    • Chinese (Traditional)
    • French
    • German
    • Italian
    • Portuguese (Brazil)
    • Russian
    • Spanish
    • Czech
    • Polish
    • Korean

Looks to be addressing quite a few things here, and we’re glad to see that Cold Iron Studio is working very hard to ensure the release goes as smooth as possible. It won’t be long now my Colonial Marines compadres, as soon we will be fending off against a rampaging horde of Xenomorphs.

Aliens Fireteam Elite is set for release this August 24 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

XDefiant Showcases 6 Minutes of Intense Shooting Gameplay

Prepare to dive into a first-person shooter experience with a lot of action and potential, as XDefiant showcases 6 minutes of intense shooting gameplay — hyping up the Closed Test event for the game starting this August 5!

Here’s the gameplay video released by the folks at IGN.

With the Closed Test of XDefiant, lucky participants will be able to play through a sampling of the game — with five unique game modes to course through and 10 different maps to engage and battle in with others. Players will also get to choose a Defiant character from one of the four factions that were introduced, so there’s plenty to do and test out just before the game is released later this year.

For an overview of what XDefiant has to offer for shooter fans, here’s the details from the game’s official website.

Personalized Playstyle

Personalize your Defiant to match your playstyle. Choose your faction, traits, abilities, and ultras. Select from an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, attachments, and a device to complete your loadout – then tweak it on the fly to adapt to an ever-changing battlefield.

Competitive Clashes

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant offers a variety of competitive 6v6 arena and linear game modes, such as Domination and Escort. Combine that with a large pool of uniquely designed maps in rotation and no two matches will feel the same.

Diverse Factions of Defiants

Wolves, Outcasts, Cleaners, and Echelon factions battling across iconic locations is just the starting point. We’ll keep adding to our cast of Defiants as the game evolves, drawing on a range of characters and abilities from the Clancy universe and beyond.

We reported that the XDefiant Closed Test was so strict that very detailed NDA were signed, and you can read about that here.
