Destiny Will Hit 1080p and 30FPS on Xbox One Following Latest Back-End Update

Developer Bungie aims to bring Destiny up to a 1080p resolution output on the Xbox One following the release of the console’s latest software development kit.

It will still run at 30 frames-per-second, but the boost in resolution is reportedly attributed to the 10% increase in GPU power since last week’s back-end update on Microsoft’s console, Geoff Keighley was able to find out:

It’s not clear what sort of performance milestones Bungie was aiming for before the update, but it is clear that the GPU power initially reserved for the Xbox One’s Kinect sensor will now help boost the game’s pixel count on the console instead.

Check out this stunning time-lapse video showcasing Destiny’s beautiful environments. It’s nice to see the new display output on Xbox One will do it justice.

Mortal Kombat X – Cassie Cage And Kotal Kahn Detailed, Last Gen Version To Be Ported By a Different Studio

As we awed in amazement at our first look at Mortal Kombat X’s first in-game footage, it was only a matter of time before more information regarding the game would starting hitting the internet as press and MK enthusiasts alike put some time into the game during E3 2014.

Gathering all the information about Mortal Kombat X might be a headache, but thankfully for you guys, I searched the internet high and low to compile everything you need to know so far about some of the game’s characters.

Now, we already know that every character will have three variants that will completely change the way they fight and gives them access to different combos and moves, as we saw with Scorpion. As for the other characters, we haven’t seen much of their variants, but we have some details below:

D’Vorah

We already know that two of her variants will be Brood Mother and Swarm Queen. But, we never got a good look at her third one, Venomous. It is said to allow D’Vorah to poison her enemies and make more use of her insect legs.

Cassie Cage

Now this character was certainly a surprise to me and everyone else who followed Mortal Kombat’s story, as Cassie Cage is the daughter of two well known Earthrealm warriors, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. Yes, that Johnny Cage.

Cassie Cage’s variants are also quite surprising, as her Hollywood variant equips her with sunglasses and allows her to attack with duel pistols in mid-air and adds the nut kracker move from her father. Her second variant, Spec-ops, allows her to call in a precision air-strike on her foes, while her Brawler adds an air power slam and take down abilities. Overall, her fighting style can be described as a mix of her parents.

Kotal Kahn

Probably the most interesting character reveal so far, at least to me, is Kotal Kahn, who appears to be a blood thirsty Aztec god. With his War God variant, it allows him to use a Macuahuitl as a weapon. Kahn’s third variant, the Sun God, allows him to perform grapples and lets him emit burst of light that can damage his foes standing in it or heal him.

Ferra/Torr

Ferra/Torr is very unique to the Mortal Kombat series, as they’re basically two fighters in one much, like Noob/Smoke from Mortal Kombat: Deception. There is however, one big difference.

Torr, the brute Ferra rides on, can fight on his own if players decide to pick the Lackey variant. Doing this will grant Torr a stronger grappling game. His other two variants, Vicious and Savage, incorporate Ferra heavily into his move set. In fact, with the Ruthless variant, Torr has a damage output at the cost of Ferra hurting him.

Sub-Zero

As seen in the gameplay premier trailer, Sub-Zero incorporates a few ice based weapons onto his combos. The variant responsible for that none other than Cryomancer. His other two variants, Unbreakable and Grandmaster, grants him a frost barrier/aura and the ability to use his clone as a projectile or shield respectively.

Aside from the six playable characters in the E3 demo, information regarding the game itself has also surfaced which you can catch below:

  • The run mechanic is back and can now be activated while dashing and pressing the block button soon after.
  • Since the run mechanic is back, NetherRealm Studios also added a stamina meter that you can see below your health bar.
  • Using interactive items will also drain your stamina meter to prevent people from spamming it.
  • Most interactive items will just let you move from harms way.
  • Game feels much faster and smoother than Mortal Kombat 9.
  • Can now meter burn throws, allowing for easier follow up attacks if your opponent doesn’t react quickly.
  • NetherRealm is looking to improve their netcode.
  • Set to introduce the most amount of  new characters of any Mortal Kombat.
  • Last gen versions will be ported by another studio.
  • Game will feature five “finishers” for each character.
  • Was worked on alongside Injustice: Gods Among Us.
  • All three variants for each character will be unlocked from the start.
  • Boon has confirmed a new “-ality” will be in the game.
  • The silhouettes featured in the character select screen aren’t real, however, it is hinting at who will be in the game.
  • Will feature in-game frame data just like Injustice: Gods Among Us.
  • Back-dashing consumes stamina meter.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Allows You To Inspect Your Co-Op Buddies Gear And More

According to the latest Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel footage shown yesterday during Spike TV’s coverage of E3 2014, we can now add another gun from Borderlands 2 that will make its way to The Pre-Sequel alongside the Gub, Neogenator and The Shrediffier.

This gun is without a doubt one of the most powerful weapons in Borderlands 2; the legendary Torgue pistol, the Unkempt Harold. From the looks of it, it’s going to be as devastating as it was in Borderlands 2.

Also, in another video from Rev3games, who captured nine minutes, of The Pre-Sequel footage, we see tons of interesting stuff:

R5UI2sv

Aqiiqqr

Judging by the second image, it appears that the weapon skin for Bandit manufactured guns has changed from red to blue. In the first image, it appears to be a special version of an Hyperion shotgun, as we can tell by the special looking skin. In fact, this special Hyperion shotgun has a special effect as seen here:

xDKDoT0

Much like the new Gub, seen with a Moonshine effect that gives a 5% chance for enemies to drop a rare weapon, the luneshine will offer a pretty unique effect as it restores 1 oxygen every time you damage an enemy.

Furthermore, it appears that the “Celestial” pre-fix on class mods is indeed the pre-fix for legendary class mods, as Wilhelm has the same one. We also see that the Moonstone, which will allow you to upgrade your weapons and purchase items in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, will have the same limit as the Eridium currency in Borderlands 2.

Moving on, that Hyperion shotgun isn’t the only one with the Luneshine effect, as seen below:

mRKJyK1

We also get a very good look at this upgraded Maliwan laser weapon in first-person view:

MArHLPN

The Unkempt Harold isn’t the only weapon from Borderlands 2 to be spotted, as The Bitch also makes its return under a new name:

JA1V44s zabhdHN

One of the new and surprising pieces of information through the video is the ability to inspect your co-op partners gear:

M2dI8g3

Now, we’ve already seen the majority of the skills in Athena’s first skill tree, Phalanx. Today, we also get to see the majority of Athena’s melee oriented skill tree, Xiphos:

PstgzAj

Speaking of skill tress, panning back to the Spike TV E3 2014 coverage video, we get a glimpse of more of Wilhelm’s skill trees:

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set to launch this October 14, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Bungie co-founder Jason Jones sets the stage for the studio’s upcoming shared-world, first-person shooter, Destiny, in a slick 7-minute video.

The new footage comes hand-in-hand with this week’s E3 2014 events, where Bungie announced both the launch date of the official Destiny Beta, as well as the release of the Destiny First Look Alpha coming tomorrow to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Battlefield Hardline’s Vehicle Gameplay to ‘Cover the Spectrum,’ Despite Absence of Tanks, Jets, and Attack Boats

As I mentioned in my initial thoughts on Battlefield Hardline, one of the key aspects that sets Visceral’s shooter apart from other Battlefield titles out there is it’s core focus on transportation vehicles and the inclusion of mean rides like muscle cars, police cruisers, and speed bikes.

I had quite the blast speeding through the streets of down town Los Angeles as my partners in crime or fellow officers hung out the rear and passenger side windows with assault rifles, machine-guns, and shotguns at the ready. I could easily get lost in fun, ignoring the objective completely. But as it turns out, the new additions to Hardline’s garage are perhaps at their most effecting when “PTFO”-ing.

During my recent visit to EA’s headquarters in Redwood City, CA, I asked Visceral lead multiplayer designer Thaddeus Sasser what sort of new possibilities Battlefield’s new cops and criminals theme brings to the table that might never fly in a tradition Battlefield game. He too mentioned the new direction with vehicle gameplay in Battlefield Hardline.

“Some of my favorites are the transport vehicles. We’ve got sedans with no guns on ’em. But these are key to some of the game modes, right?

“And, how’ve we made these interesting? Well, first off we’ve provided transports with a little bit of customization, so now you can customize your transport, which is something that wasn’t really possible before in most cases. You can also bring your buddies with you and they can hang out the window and get a full 360 degree angle of fire so they can defend you as you’re being chased or they can attack somebody you’re running towards. So, vehicles are pretty cool. It’s something that’s a little possible in Battlefield, but you’re not going to see a sports car in military Battlefield too often – maybe once in a while, but in general, this being kind of like a theme for some of our transport vehicles, I think is very powerful and engaging.”

But what about the vehicles that traditionally have played a key role in the ‘true’ Battlefield experience? Where are the battle tanks, fighter jets, assault choppers, and attack boats? It can be hard to let it sink in that Hardline is not a military shooter, after all. As with the weapons, gadgets, kits, and locations, Visceral had plans all along to stick to the fiction, even if that meant taking Battlefield in an entirely new direction.

“Well, let’s put it this way,” Sasser told me. “You won’t be driving an M1A1 Abrams. You’ll see some other vehicles. They may be heavily armored, but they’re not going to be M1A1s. You’re not going to see an F22 or anything.”

Despite the new approach, Sasser assured me that Hardline will still support the same range of options previous titles in the series has before it, as it’s still a deeply engrained element in the franchise.

“One of the great things about Battlefield’s vehicles is that they have a wide range of vehicles, and we still support that same kind of range,” he explained. “You’re going to have watercraft. You’re going to have landcraft. You’re going to have aircraft. We’re not going to talk about specifically which ones, but we’re going to cover the spectrum.”

Hopefully, there’ll be a little bit of something for everyone.

Find out October 21 when Battlefield Hardline launches on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

The Crew Coast To Coast E3 2014 Gameplay, Closed Beta Begins July

Showcasing the massive open world of The Crew at E3 2014, developer Ubisoft/Ivory Tower demoed a coast to coast race sequence in their next-gen racer that creative director Julian Gerighty says will take over two real life hours to complete.

For time sake, the on-screen demo was clearly sped up, but it gives you a pretty good idea of the sort of scale The Crew will deliver when it launches of Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 11. As we reported earlier, The Crews’ world map is, in fact, greater than that of Grand Theft Auto V’s Los Santos, Red Dead Redemption’s Wild West, Forza Horizon’s Colorado, Need for Speed Rival’s Redview County, Far Cry 3’s tropical island and Skyrim combined.

In addition, Gerighty also announced that The Crew’s closed beta will begin on July 23. You can sign up now at the beta’s official page.

What are your thoughts on Ubisoft and Ivory Tower’s upcoming racer? Does its epic open world appeal to you?

Watch The Division’s Chilling E3 2014 Presentation

Following a completely new look at The Division gameplay during Xbox One’s E3 2014 press conference, publisher Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment brought the good stuff during their own E3 2014 media briefing with a new look at their upcoming open-world shooter.

The new trailer doesn’t quite show off any additional gameplay, but it sure does a good job setting the bleak tone that the game seems to carry throughout, reminding you of the struggle of man during this dark, post-apocalyptic time.

Watch the presentation from Massive producer Petter Mannerfelt in the video above, as he sets up the scenario. Be sure to bring along a few tissues.

LittleBigPlanet 3 Coming This November On The PS4

One of PlayStation’s most innovating titles is returning this November on the PlayStation 4.

One of the biggest changes now is that Sackboy, a very lovable creature that lives off our own imagination, won’t be just the only playable character this time around. Sony revealed during their conference demo that their will be three new characters, each having their own special set of abilities that makes them very unique, offering a very different way of playing the game.

[youtube id=”Oco1sqKYsWA”]

[youtube id=”Nx-mdfHnaxg”]

Do note that all the past user generated levels in LBP1 and 2 will be remastered for LBP3, offering an upgraded graphical look to them.

LittleBigPlanet 3 will offer a set of new tools, that players will be able to use to further enhance their levels. Expect the online co-op to get better, along with the user-generated vs. modes.  LittleBigPlanet 3 is set to launch this November.

Mortal Kombat X E3 Demo Reveals Two More Characters And Hints Roster Will Be At 24 Fighters

In case you missed it, NetherRealm Studios gave everyone their first look at the actual in-game footage for Mortal Kombat X yesterday during Sony’s E3 2014 media briefing.

However, yesterday’s premier is just the tip of the iceberg as a few moments ago, Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise gave a live demo of the game.

Check out the footage below:

[youtube id=”RMUvp6Fta5A”]

In the twelve-minute live demo of Mortal Kombat X, we get to see tons of new information that wasn’t revealed during yesterday’s in-game premier, and also confirms some of my observations of the game earlier.

Mortal Kombat X Live Demo Highlights

  • Confirms that blood-thirsty Aztec god character is new and his name is Kotal Khan.
  • Reveals another new character, Cassie Cage, the daughter of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage.
  • Cassie Cage has a combination of her parents moves.
  • Takes place after the events of MK9 and spans over 25 years.
  • Since the game takes place in the span of 25 years, you will see the characters age.
  • Outworld Marketplace stage suggest this game will take place in Outworld.
  • Character select screen suggest we will have 24 fighters to choose from.
  • Boon suggest that the main enemy for Mortal Kombat X will be rather fun surprise and it will be a returning character.
  • There will be a lot of surprises in store for Mortal Kombat X.
  • Confirms that each character will have three different variants:

Scorpion:

  • Ninjitsu Adds unique attacks utilizing ninja swords
  • Hellfire: Adds Hell Ball, Demonic Fire and Flame Aura
  • Inferno: Adds ability to spawn demonic minion

D’Vorah:

  • Brood Mother: Adds Krawler and Bug Blast
  • Swarm Queen: Adds Vortex Swarm and Wasp Grenade

Unfortunately, for the other four fighters, we don’t see what their variants are aside from Ferra/Torr and Sub-Zero who have a vicious and cryomancer variant, respectively.

Now, time for speculation. Given how the story ended in Mortal Kombat 9, Liu Kang being reintroduced as the main villain wouldn’t be too surprising given how his arcade ladder story ended.

Furthermore, in the character select screen I spotted a familiar figure:

e3FtHsQ

You see that hooded figure two squares to the right of Sub-Zero? Well, it perfectly matches the concept art of Ermac that was discovered not to long ago. Personally, I hope that design makes it to the final version of the game, as it was a very refreshing look for him.

Mortal Kombat X is slated to arrive on the PC, PlayStation 3/4, Xbox 360/One platforms sometime next year.

For more updates regarding Mortal Kombat X, stay tuned to MP1st.

Mortal Kombat X Gameplay Reveal Analysis – Three Different Versions Of Scorpion Spotted, New Hidden Character, And More

Mortal Kombat X’s gameplay reveal at Sony’s E3 2014 press conference was everything we wanted and more. But did you see everything it had to offer?

There’s a ton of information that you might have missed during the brutal two-minute brawl between Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and other Mortal Kombat characters. Let’s see what we can find.

First up, we get a look at D’Vorah, Torr and Ferra the two new characters Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon promised we would see this week‏:

mkx1

2

Panning back to the always brutal Scorpion and Sub-Zero bouts, we see that these color palette swapped ninjas have tons of new tricks up their sleeves as, throughout the video, we see a few of their new moves:

1

2

From the looks of it, Scorpion has added a pretty big sized fireball to his list of moves. However, the hellspawn spectre isn’t the only one showcasing his new moves, as Sub-Zero gives Scorpion a taste of what he has up sleeves:

1

2

Although the first screen is hard to tell what’s going on, it confirms that meter burn moves from Injustice: Gods Among Us are back. Sub-Zero performs a meter burn version of his classic ice slide move which ends with a projectile.

Speaking of classic moves, one of Sub-Zero’s greatest defensive tools also turns into one of his best offensive moves as he’s now able to throw his ice clone at his opponents:

1

2

Before I continue, remember the short description of the game that revealed that each character will have different versions that are capable of different fighting styles? It looks like Scorpion’s first style focuses on hell fire attack,s such as the new meaty fireball he gets to throw.

As for the other two, it appears one will focus on his ninja swords, while his other one focuses on making his opponents stationery:

1

2

3

NetherRealm Studios has also included a small hint as to which variant players are using, as we can tell with both the lighter hue of blue in Sub-Zero’s mask and the skull on Scorpion’s hip:

1

2

It isn’t clear what the other variation of Sub-Zero will specialize in, but considering his normal version is very offensive (throw his ice clone), it’s pretty safe to say that this one will be more for defensive purposes.

The gameplay footage then switches back to our two new kombatants where we see a male fighter use his little companion as a weapon multiple times and even uses him during his meter burn version of his shoulder tackle:

1

2

3

4

5

Ferra, the little companion to Torrr seems to be an important part to his arsenal.

As the two new fighters continue their brawl, we see D’Vorah‏ use a wooden stump once it’s highlighted white to her advantage . That means that she will play like a “gadget” character from Injustice: Gods Among Us, meaning she won’t be able to throw heavy objects, but instead, will bounce off of them to escape any harm:

1

2

Not much is shown on what this mysterious fighter is capable of, aside from being able to perform an air throw and attack her opponents with gigantic insect legs:

1

Remember in the announcement trailer when Sub-Zero ripped out a tree branch and froze it to use it as a weapon against Scorpion? Looks like it’s an actual thing, and depending on which character to play as, it will be used differently:

1

2

Interactive items also appear randomly throughout the stage, as seen between the fight of the two new characters:

1

During the end of the video, NetherRealm Studios gives us a glimpse of some of the fighter’s X-Ray moves such as Scorpion’s:

2

Finally, NetherRealm Studios has left us a pretty pleasant surprise in the form of a blood thirsty Aztec warrior:

3

4

Not included in the trailer are some interesting tid-bits of information that Mortal Kombat co-creator shared on Twitter:

As for those who are not happy about interactive items return, there’s some good news:

Mortal Kombat X is set to release sometime in the year 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
