Mortal Kombat X Runs on ‘Highly Customized Version of Unreal 3,’ Will Be 1080p And 60 FPS

Resolution and frame rate is all the talk nowadays when it come to next-gen games as gamers expect nothing but the best for their hard-earned money. Talk surrounding NeatherRealm’s upcoming fighter is no different.

Mortal Kombat X creative director and the franchise co-founder Ed Boon recently spilled the beans on Twitter, confirming the game’s resolution, frame-rate, and exactly what engine it will be running on:

Boon didn’t specify which platforms will run the aforementioned specs, but it’s very likely that he was referring to the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One version’s of MKX.

Additionally, as we draw closer and closer to the first gameplay footage of MKX next week during E3, fans have already started speculating which characters will be included in MKX’s roster alongside Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Well, we can cross off one character who debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. According to Ed Boon, the Oni demon Drahmin is very unlikely to make an appearance:

Though, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who’ve have been keeping up with Mortal Kombat news throughout the years. It’s been well-noted that Drahmin and Hsu-Hao were never well perceived with both the fans and the developers.

Elsewhere, a very interesting piece of “fan-art” was recently retweeted by Boon. But through some searching, it appears that the artist responsible for this rendition of Ermac is none other than Bernard Beneto, the senior character artist for NetherRealm Studios.

C74wM7i

And here are a few others from his blog.

Beneto_Fanart_Ermac_B

Beneto_Fanart_Ermac_C

Of course, this isn’t official confirmation that Ermac will look like this in MKX, but his rendition of Ermac is amazing nevertheless.

As we previously reported, we will also be getting our first look of two all new fighters on June 9 as NetherRealm Studios is set to showcase their fighter for the first time.

Mortal Kombat X launches sometime in 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Killzone: Shadow Fall Set To Receive Retro Maps After Next Expansion, Team Confirms New PS4 Open-World IP

Fans of the previous Killzone titles may be in for a real treat as Guerrilla Games have revealed plans to release some older, more memorable maps from past Killzone games.

During a Reddit AMA, Senior Online Producer Samrat Sharma  responded to a few fans question, one including whether we would see any past maps such as Radec Academy (Killzone 2). Sharma replied with a short, but clear comment:

“Stay tuned for our retro map announcement too.”

Remember that all the maps for Shadowfall are free, with the most recent one being Canyon. Currently, the team is working on the co-op DLC/Standalone title, Killzone: Shadow Fall Intercept, which will release sometimes this month. We can expect it to be shown off at this year’s E3, and upon release, we can probably expect some more details on these Retro Maps that the team has planned.

While E3 is next week, the team did confirm during the AMA that they are working on a new IP, however it won’t be shown off at E3, despite having confidence in the title.

No, we won’t be showing it right now. Simple reason: we are confident enough in the game, but it’s not something we can show and expect reasonable feedback. There is simply a lot of work that we need to do before we show it to our fans.”

He added that “the team is very positive about the work they’ve put in so far and the results,”

They also went on to further confirm rumors that the title is indeed an open-world game.

“Open games are a very different beast, and an unprepared team can spend loads of people and money making content for an open game (I used to work for Ubisoft, so I know the pitfalls to avoid). Thankfully, we have an ever curious technical team that is not resting on its laurels and investigating new frontiers that help us push our content in new an interesting directions. As for open, specifically, you’ll have to wait for the next game’s announcement to see what it does.”

Perhaps we can expect them to show off their new IP at this year’s GDC in Europe instead.

So, what do you guys think the new IP will be about? What about the retro maps for Killzone? Which ones do you want to see make a return?

Loadout – Good Clean Fun Coming to PlayStation 4

Developer Edge of Reality is bringing their whacky third-person shooter to the PlayStation 4, creative director Mark Nau announced today.

Loadout is a game that lets you concoct the weapon of your dreams and/or nightmares from hundreds of component parts, and share their payloads with your friends in fast-paced matches, with violently comedic results,” Nau wrote in a recent PS Blog entry.

“Giant death beam? We’ve got it covered. Bouncy Tesla balls? Sure. Laser-guided cluster-bomb rockets? Hey, we’re not here to judge. Loadout has literally billions of different weapon combinations, and you can wield every last one of them once we launch on PS4. We’re going to be adjusting all the scopes and balancing the barrels so your weapons of choice feel right at home on DualShock 4.”

The game will be free-to-play, just as it’s PC counter-part that launched earlier this year is. Nau says, “we’ve already had 3 million players join the carnage. We can’t wait to have all of you jumping into the arena with them and covering the walls in more vital fluids than we know what to do with.”

Launch details are to come at a later date. For now, have a laugh with the nutty trailer above.

Forza Horizon 2 Runs at 1080p, 30FPS On Xbox One, Says Creative Director

Though last year’s Forza Motorsport 5 ran at a smooth 60 frames per second while achieving a 1080p display, it appears developer Playground Games is scaling things back a bit to accommodate for the open world of their recently announced Xbox One project, Forza Horizon 2.

When asked by IGN why Horizon 2 would be locked at 30FPS, compared to Forza 5’s 60FPS, creative director Ralph Fulton said “The biggest difference is that, obviously, we’re an open-world streaming game, we need to be able to drive in any direction at up to 270 miles an hour, if you’re gonna soup up a Veyron or something like that.”

“So one of the big technical challenges that we had to face was making sure that we could stream in a world that is next-gen beautiful, but fast enough to keep up with the fastest car,” he continued. “That’s a huge tech challenge but it’s one that our guys just eat up.”

Similarly, it’s also the case for the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive racer Driveclub. “We decided that 1080p, 30 frames per second is absolutely the best thing,” said game director Paul Rustchynsky, as it allows the studio to focus on bigger tracks, better lighting, and more detail.

What are your thoughts? Are you happy that the game is at least 1080p, or do you care more about the frames per second? Let us know in the comment section below. For more Forza news, keep your sights zeroed in right here on MP1st.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Releases October 14, New Trailer Analysis And Pre-Order Bonus Detailed

These upcoming months are going to be taxing for gamers’ wallet, as a number of the year’s biggest titles are set to start dropping in the final months of 2014.

Today we learn that those interested in 2K Australia and Gearbox Software’s upcoming shoot-and-loot title, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, can experience Handsome Jack’s rise to power on October 14 of this year.

Alongside a solid release date, Gearbox Software has also released a whacky new trailer that you can view above. It contains a ton of information that you may not have noticed at first, but here’s a bit of a rundown.

In the first few seconds of the trailer, we see our beloved Claptrap unit hold a white rarity Dhal weapon which appears to have a laser barrel on it:

dhnyfJA

Speaking of Claptrap, we see possible customization items for the character below:

kRJVESA

We also get to see some familiar faces in the trailer — not only Moxxi, but also Lilith, one of the playable characters in Borderlands 1 and an NPC in Borderlands 2:

K0cb90V

C3NNvZU

Remember that Dhal laser weapon that Claptrap was holding earlier in the video? Well, it looks like we get our first glimpse of a legendary version of it:

5DmZ98x

CorSBve

In addition, we get a loot at Maliwan’s legendary laser weapon, which also happens to be a cyro weapon:

IY61925

Do you remember the Gub from Borderlands 2? It looks like it will be making returning in The Pre-Sequel. However, the legendary Bandit pistol now appears to adopt the Cyro element:

dQD4wuM

Upon further inspection, we also see something new to the Borderlands series, the ‘Moonshine’, which adds a 5 percent chance for enemies to drop rare loot. Given how the Moonstone currency allows for upgrading weapons, it’s possible that upgrading a weapon with a Moonstone grants the Moonshine bonus.

The Gub isn’t the only legendary to return to The Pre-Sequel, as we see Athena sporting the Neogenator as well:

BNcYpHB

Check out this small glimpse of Vladof’s legendary assault rifile, The Shredifier:

SUzuE3C

Here is a look, possibly, of one of Claptrap’s skills:

ok8zgBz

As for Nisha, this trailer once more hints at what her action skill might be:

PyYAk0k

From the looks of it, Nisha’s action skill will allow her to use a customized Jakobs pistol that changes in appearance, as the one shown in the cosplay reference guide is a bit different.

Finally, we get to see some of the skills in Wilhelm’s Cyber Commando and Dreadnaught skill trees:

bltlGge

JpvqIPV

Much like Borderlands 2, which received the Natural Selection Annex exclusive pre-order bonus, it appears that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be receiving a similar bonus called the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit:

presequel_bonus

According to a press release, they reveal the following about the pre-order bonus:

Taking place in an old Dahl facility on Pandora’s moon, players will meet TR4-NU, who once was one of Dahl’s military recruiters until he went crazy. TR4-NU is now hosting the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit and giving awesome loot to those who succeed against the moon’s toughest enemies.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set to release on October 14 in North America and October 17 internationally and will be available for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Rumor – Is Ultra Street Fighter IV Coming To PlayStation 4?

Ultra Street Fighter IV is now available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners who wish to digitally upgrade older versions of Super Street Fighter IV. The PC version, as well as physical retail copies of the full console game, are poised to launch in August. But it now appears that Capcom’s fighter may come to another platform as well.

Recently, gaming gear manufacturer Mad Catz announced their Ultra Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2, which features top of the line parts and the usual stunning background image to accompany it. However, looking at the description for the flashy fight stick, it includes one interesting feature — players can switch between its use on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on the fly.

Seeing that there are no real fighters on the PS4 as of yet, aside from Injustice: Ultimate Edition and Guilty Gear Xrd, it leads me to believe that a possible announcement for Ultra Street Fighter IV coming to the PlayStation 4 is imminent. Otherwise, Mad Catz wouldn’t make an Ultra Street Fighter IV themed arcade stick compatible with the PlayStation 4 if Capcom wasn’t going to release said fighter in the near future.

Considering this is E3 season, after all, and the series producer for Street Fighter IV, Yoshi Ono, recently revealed on Twitter that he’s set to make an announcement during the convention while making preparations for a Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament, it’s not too far-fetched of an idea.

This isn’t the only hint that Ono has left behind either. Back in February, he tweeted the following:

Coincidentally, the Blanka figure that’s pictured along side the DualShock 4 controller is usually used by Ono when he wants to hint at something.

Hopefully we get a clear answer next week when E3 kicks off.

Would you pick up a PlayStation 4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel – Action Skills To Be Unlocked At Level 3, Hip Fire Accuracy in Discussion

As we previously reported a few weeks ago, Borderlands franchise director Matt Armstrong indicated that Gearbox and 2k Australia were open changing the level requirement to unlock your character’s action skill in their upcoming shooter: Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

According to Armstrong’s recent tweets, it’s now official. Action Skills in TPS will be unlocked at level 3.

This is great news all around, as not only will get to toy with the four new playable characters’ action skills a lot sooner, but players will also have two extra skill points at their disposal to create more interesting builds. Furthermore, Armstrong and the rest of the development team are also opening up discussion on hip fire accuracy in TPS, asking for suggestions relative to other Borderlands titles.

Recently we got out first look at Handsome Jack in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Check him out here.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set to launch this Fall on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Get a First Look At Handsome Jack In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

As we all know, Handsome Jack, antagonist of Borderlands 2, is set to be one of the good guys in 2K Australia and Gearbox’s upcoming shoot-and-loot title, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

However, what we don’t know is what lead Handsome Jack to become the tyrant he came to be in Borderlands 2, nor what he looks like, until now. This week’s cosplay guide for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel features Handsome Jack himself.

Check out the images below:

entry-20140603-Jack-pic1

entry-20140603-Jack_FB_Comp

Aside from the weird looking pinky fingers, the model for Handsome Jack actually looks pretty cool.

Additionally, judging from the reference guide, the vault symbol that was burned into the face of Handsome Jack as seen in the final moments of Borderlands 2 is missing. This may indicate that we actually get to find out how Handsome Jack gets imprinted with the vault symbol sometime in the story of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set to release this Fall for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms.

Mortal Kombat X – Two All New Characters Set To Debut At E3 2014

E3 2014 is shaping up to be a great one this year, especially for Mortal Kombat fans, as the latest entry in the franchise, Mortal Kombat X will be showcased during next week’s events.

However, it appears that Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has something special up his sleeve, according to recent tweets:

Considering that NetherRealm Studios is really into fan service and turning any easter egg into fully-fleshed out characters like Ermac, Rain, and more recently, Skarlett, it wouldn’t be too surprising if at least one of the characters below were to be revealed at next week:

Belokk

Belokk

Belokk, whom was originally slated for release with Mortal Kombat Gold, was unfortunately cut from the final release, according to Boon, as the studio didn’t have enough time to complete the character.

In fact the developer for Mortal Kombat 4/Gold actually revealed screen shots of Belokk a few months before the title was released:

Hornbuckle

Remember those two fighters who were fighting in the background of The Pit II stage in Mortal Kombat II? If so, you’ll remember that one of them actually became the character “Blaze” who served as Mortal Kombat: Armageddon’s boss for the arcade ladder and played a very important part in the story.

7-the pit II

This leads to the question, ‘what ever happened to that guy who was fighting Blaze?’

Dubbed by Mortal Kombat fans as “Hornbuckle,” nothing much became of him aside from appearing in the background of the Pit II stage once again in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. But MK fans have long awaited for his arrival as an actual playable character with every release since. Might it actually happen this time?

Tremor

Unlike the previous two character who haven’t officially appeared in a Mortal Kombat release, Tremor, the brown-colored ninja palette swap did appear in the PlayStation Vita version of Mortal Kombat 9 as a playable character. Though he wasn’t initially selectable in the character select screen for the game, Tremor was playable in one of the bonus challenge towers.

TremorUMK3

We also know a bit about Tremor’s special abilities, as he’s able to create small earthquakes and project stones at his opponents, petrifying them over time.

Who ever it is, it looks like we’ll find out next week at E3 when NetherRealm Studios showcases Mortal Kombat X, slated for a 2015 release for the PC, PlayStation 3/4 and Xbox 360/One.

If you missed it, catch the debut trailer here.
