EA Launches Official Battlefield Hardline Website, Unveiling on June 9, Launches Fall

Following today’s earlier leaks, EA has launched the official website for their upcoming shooter, confirming “Battlefield Hardline” as the project’s official title and dropping some fancy new key art that once again suggests a focus on SWAT vs. criminals gameplay.

The page also indicates that an official unveiling will take place during EA’s E3 2014 media briefing on Jun 9 at noon PST.

BFH

Check out the official site here.

A significant Battlelog leak from earlier this morning outed some of the game’s first details, mentioning new weapons, gadgets, game modes, factions, vehicles, and locations. It also pointed towards Visceral Games as the primary developer for the project, coming to PC, as well as next-gen and current-gen platforms.

Officially confirming a Fall release date, Visceral Games General Manager Steve Papoutsis talked about Battlefield Hardline in a letter to fans.

On behalf of everyone at EA and Visceral Games, I’m fired up to confirm our next project – Battlefield Hardline. The game launches this fall and it’s a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals.

Several years ago, I was at an internal EA meeting in Barcelona with creative leaders from across the company. It was there I met Karl Magnus Troedsson, the GM of DICE, for the first time, and we immediately began talking about games – I’ve always loved Battlefield and KM was a huge fan of Dead Space, which I was working on at the time. We started talking about different ways we could work together, different ways we could take Battlefield and action games in a new direction. It was then that this project that became Battlefield Hardline was born.

There’s been a lot of buzz today about Battlefield Hardline – we’re getting ready for E3 and fans found some details on our website about what we’re working on for the show. We’ve been reading all of your comments and we’re excited to be going into more detail soon on the ways we’re adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer and more about how we’re bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player.

Looks like we’ll be learning much more at E3 this year. What’s your take on this new direction for the Battlefield series?

New EA Sports UFC Gameplay Showcases Grappling and Submission Mechanics, Won’t Be a Yearly Title

A new gameplay series video for EA Sports’ upcoming UFC title pits the digital recreations of Ronda Rousey and Meisha Tate against one another to demonstrate some of the game’s new grappling and submission mechanics.

Watch it above to get a feel for the games ground-based combat.

Elsewhere, Undisputed Online reports that the creative director for the upcoming UFC game, Brian Hayes, has stated that EA Sports UFC won’t be a yearly title and that we shouldn’t be seeing another UFC game from EA for another 18-22 months.

Additionally, Hayes has revealed that any roster updates to the game will be available for free. However, any specialty characters such, as a younger version of a fighter or a different Bruce Lee, will have to be paid for.

Speaking of the legendary actor, watch you can watch Bruce Lee in action in a previous EA Sports UFC gameplay video right here.

EA Sports UFC is available on June 17 for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

15-Minute Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Video Commentary Shows Off New Gameplay, Currency, Vehicles And More

Fresh of the press is a new 15-minute video from 2K Australia and Gearbox Software showing off their upcoming title, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, set to arrive sometime this Fall.

Though the new footage offers a closer look at the area from the announcement gameplay, it is full of new information, giving a first real glimpse of Claptrap in combat and detailing the new in-game currency.

According to the footage, players will collect Moonstone as a form of currency, which appears to have more use than Eridium, the currency of Borderlands 2.

fBmJBZN

Judging by its description, not only we will be able to purchase items once again from a black market, but we’ll also be able to purchase improved loot, something the community has asked for after considering Eridium not as useful in Borderlands 2. It also looks like raid bosses will be once again be included in the game as Moonstone rocks give players access to “tougher challenges.”

Speaking of loot, one of the Oz kits that was acquired during the gameplay video had some very interesting effects. Upon performing a “butt-slam,” it will create a temporary Oz bubble that will replenish your Oxygen. It also appears that Oz kits will replace relics, as they both share the same icon.

Aside from being able to perform new moves like the butt-slam and the ability to hover, players can also use Oxygen to quickly revive downed teammates:

Furthermore, we also get our first look at one of the new vehicles we will get to use in The Pre-Sequel, the Stingray:

1w8Y4Lk

We can also be sure that customization items such as heads and skins will indeed be making their return, as a skin customization item dropped from one of the enemies appeared in the gameplay footage:

During the end of the video, we finally see Claptrap make its first appearance in battle helping out Wilhelm and Athena take out a Badass enemy. We also see the name of one his class mods, the Overclocker:

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set to arrive this Fall season for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

“Battlefield Hardline” Leak Outs New Cops vs. Criminals-Themed Battlefield Game

An info leak stemming from a recent Battlelog update suggest that a new EA shooter in development at Visceral Games will introduce the Battlefield series to a very different theater of war: Cops vs. Criminals.

Allegedly dubbed “Battlefield Hardline,” the leak outs images portraying the game’s logo, weapons, unlocks, vehicles, locations, and more.

It also suggests new game modes like “Blood Money” and “Heist” are in the works. Class selection is said to include kits like “Operator,” “Mechanic,” “Enforcer,” and “Professional.” Outed faction icons also mention “SWAT” forces and “Thieves.”

Most interesting of the bunch is the discovery of a Visceral Games logo, suggesting that the Dead Space creators will have much to do with the development of the game, which falls in line with previous rumors. “Battlfield Hardline” is also said to be in development for the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 and will once again adopt Battlefield’s Premium subscription service.

It’s highly likely that EA will unveil “Battlefield Hardline” as their unannounced Frostbite-powered title during the company’s E3 2014 media briefing.

DICE Introduces Option To Pay For Battlefield 4 Battlepacks

Battlefield 4 developers DICE are giving players the option today to make in-game purchases for items like weapon attachments, camoflage patterns, and XP boosts, as well as Battlelog emblems and portraits.

The items are offered in what the studio calls “Battlepacks” which have been an integral part of Battlefield 4’s unlock progression system since launch. Basic tiered Battlepacks – Bronze, Silver, and Gold – are often offered upon ranking up and help unlock these cosmetic goods at a faster pace.

While the studio isn’t changing how you can unlock the extra content, they are now giving players the freedom to pay for any level of Battlepacks at varying prices; $1 for Bronze, $2 for Silver, and $3 for Gold. Check out the details announced in a recent Battlelog update.

“Starting today, we are introducing a new way to acquire Battlepacks, the bundles of content that provide a mix of in-game items including accessories, emblem shapes, profile pictures, dog tags, XP boosts, knives, and paints. Battlepacks can still be earned through normal gameplay progressions, but we are now giving players the option to purchase Battlepacks as a shortcut to catch up with their friends on the Battlefield.

“Bronze, Silver and Gold Battlepacks will be available for purchase at Origin.com, Battlelog.com, through the in-game store, at Xbox Live Marketplace and at the PlayStation Store. Pricing will be $1 for Bronze Battlepacks, $2 for Silver Battlepacks, and $3 for Gold Battlepacks.”

Micro-transactions are always a touchy subject among gamers, especially in larger triple-A titles like Battlefield 4. Similarly, Call of Duty offers purchasable in-game customization items through “Personalization Packs” while still charging normal price for Map Packs. Meanwhile, PopCap Games’ Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, also an EA title, offers DLC maps for free as a result of micro-transactions.

What’s your take?

Download Watch Dogs’ ctOS Mobile App on These 49 Devices, Challenge Console and PC Players

Watch Dogs’ adversarial multiplayer doesn’t always have to be about the controller vs. controller or mouse and keyboard vs. mouse and keyboard experience. Sometimes, the best way to take out your opponent is with an iPad Air. Not literally.

In Watch Dogs, Ubisoft lets you hop online using the game’s ctOS Mobile app. Players can log in using their Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, or UPlay account. On consoles, Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus subscription are not required while memberships also extend to both console generations, meaning Xbox Live members can hop online with both Xbox 360 or Xbox One users, for example. The app boasts its very own progression system that isn’t tied to your play through in the console or PC game, meaning your accounts doesn’t need to be connected to your gaming platform of choice. In fact, you don’t even need a copy of Watch Dogs to play ctOS Mobile.

There are two ways to play with others using the app: Race and Free Ride. “Both modes are adversarial, pitting the console/PC player against the mobile player,” writes Ubisoft in the latest Ubiblog entry. “On the console/PC, the player must race from checkpoint to checkpoint. Every time a checkpoint is passed, more time is added back to the clock. The goal is to reach the final checkpoint before time runs out.”

“On the mobile app, the player is doing everything in his power to thwart his adversary. How so? By hacking into the city via a top-down map, triggering blockers, setting off explosions and causing all kinds of mayhem. Using ctOS Mobile, the player can also attack from above via a helicopter (complete with a sniper); and he can send the local police into hot pursuit.

“The differences between Race and Free Ride? With Races, the distances between checkpoints are shorter and the GPS is on for the console/PC player. With Free Ride, the distances are wider and the GPS is off by default.”

According to Ubisoft, ctOS Mobile offers 26 challenges: 13 Races, 13 Free Rides, while also offering a fully customizable map generator, including weather and time of day. Friends can be invited to your game by entering their ID, or you can simply partner up with random players using the app’s Quick Match function.

You can download the ctOS Mobile on the Apple App Store or Google Play tomorrow when Watch Dogs officially launches. It will be available on the following 49 devices at launch:

Project Reality creators are breathing new life into the popular Battlefield 2 mod with update 1.2, now live and available for download.

It introduces new forces, maps, gadgets, tweaks, bug fixes, and more, while – most importantly – keeping the project alive post GameSpy’s May 31 online hosting services shutdown.

[youtube id=”PsZ7WnOtYSg”]

You can visit the official download page here and read installation instructions here. You’ll find some of the key update notes below:

Project Reality: BF2 v1.2 Update

You can read the full list of update notes by following this link.

EA announced earlier that the publisher is unable to continue support for games like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, and Battlefield Vietnam after GameSpy’s shutdown. Luckily, creators for mods like Project Reality are taking things into their own hands with updates much like the one detailed above.

Similarly, developer Bungie is continuing support for Halo: Combat Evolved on PC, also affected by the shut down, with the recently launched 1.0.10 update as well. You can find the download link and read the official note from Bungie here.

Here are the patch notes.

Halo: Combat Evolved v1.0.10 Update

  • Moved Gamespy services to use new non-Gamespy server

  • Updated chatbox settings to work with newer resolutions

  • Fixed reading sv_ban_penalty from init.txt
  • Disabled executable_is_valid checksum from strings.dll
  • Allowed network access in devmode

Xbox One June Update Preview Now Live, Patch Notes and External Storage FAQ

Xbox One’s recently detailed June update is hitting users involved in the console’s update preview program.

You can manually install the update in your Xbox One’s Settings menu where you’ll also find a new controller update in addition. Find the full patch notes below:

External Storage for your Games and Apps

This has been a much requested feature, and it’s here! With the June update preview, you can connect up to two external hard drives to use as extra storage for your Xbox One console. We have a detailed list of how to use this feature here, and you can discuss everything external storage related in the External Storage on Xbox One forums. Don’t forget to check out the FAQ!

Real Name Sharing

Now you can share your real name with your friends, and even with your friends-of-friends. Don’t worry though, you’re in total control – share your name with your entire friends list, or just a few. The next time you open the Friends app, you’ll receive a setup prompt. If you don’t receive the prompt, you can also access the setup by selecting My profile and Share real name.

Auto Sign-In

You requested this, and now you have it! With Auto-Sign In, you can now select an account to sign in automatically when you turn on your Xbox One. To enable this option, navigate to Settings > Preferences > Instant sign-in, and choose the account you wish to sign in automatically. The next time you turn on the system, you’ll be signed-in from the get-go!

Updated Store for Home

The Xbox Store has been redesigned and now includes featured content front and center with Game, Movie, Music, and App categories to the right. The search bar has also been moved, and it’s now an icon under the categories at the far right.

Furthermore, Microsoft has outed a new FAQ list for curious external storage users:

Q: What can I install on my external storage device?
A: You can install games, downloadable content, and apps on your storage device.

Q: Can I store game saves on the external storage device?
A: No. Game saves are automatically stored in the cloud and synced to the Xbox One console.

Q: Can I use the external storage device for music and video playback?
A: No. For the initial release of the external storage feature, media files, including music and videos, are not supported. We are considering this for a future release.

Q: Can I copy or move a game from my internal hard drive to my external storage device?
A: Yes. Check out the content management features by going the Manage page for the game or app.

Q: Can I use my external storage device with my PC as well as my Xbox One?
A: No. The external storage device will be formatted for use by the Xbox One console only. PCs won’t recognize the drive partition created by the Xbox One.

Q: Can I re-format my storage device from my Xbox One console?
A: If you’d like to remove all content from your storage device and start over, you can re-format your storage device on the Xbox One. To do this, go to Settings>System>Manage Storage, choose the external drive you want to format, and select Format. After this is done, the Xbox One will treat it as a brand new drive.

Note: Formatting causes the storage device to wipe all data.

Q: Do I need to bring my game disc while roaming with my storage device?
A: Yes. The external storage device does not change the licensing for games, so if the game was installed from a disc, the disc is required to play the game.

Report – Destiny Alpha Spotted on PSN, Starts June 3 [Updated]

Update

In an official statement posted on Bungie’s official website, community manager David “DeeJ” Dague addressed the recent reports of a Destiny Alpha, calling it an internal test only made available for Bungie employees. Looks like fans will have to wait until the Beta to get their first taste of Destiny. Here’s the full note:

“Last night, we noticed you noticing us internally testing the Destiny Alpha. Here’s what that means for you:
  • The Destiny Alpha has only been made available to Bungie employees. What this means for you is that we’re making great headway.
  • At E3, attendees will be able to play our competitive multiplayer, putting their skills to the test in intense, skill-based arenas.
  • For fans, the Destiny Beta will be the big, pre-launch hands-on experience. You can secure a spot by pre-ordering Destiny at participating retailers.

It’s awesome to see that you’re excited,” Dague added. “We’re excited, too. Alpha is paving the way for a great E3, Beta, and launch on September 9th, and we can’t wait for you to play.”

Original Story

A Destiny Alpha may be on the table for early June if a recently spotted listing on Sony’s PlayStation Network is to be believed.

Reddit user SPUTNIKZ came across the page on the PlayStation 4’s PSN after following steps to join a Bungie designer on his friends list who was allegedly playing the “Destiny First Look Alpha.” According to SPUTNIKZ’s post, it prompted him to visit this overview page:

xeQemPfAccording to the description, the “Destiny First Look Alpha” is a “small sampling of activities you’ll find in the final experience,” and is reportedly launching early next month on June 3.

Fellow Reddit user SCZ was able to confirm a similar sighting, lending some serious legitimacy to SPUTNIKZ’s findings.

Thus far, developer Bungie has made no mention of a Destiny Alpha, only confirming that a Destiny Beta is indeed coming to all consoles sometime in July, first on PS4 and PS3. An exact date is expected to be announced during Bungie’s presentation at E3 2014.

It’s possible that the studio is planning a smaller Alpha test for only a select few individuals before launching into a full beta with any and all users who’ve pre-ordered the game, but we don’t know for certain. The release date does fall on a day that the PSN regularly updates, but launching prior and so close to this year’s E3 suggests to us that it may be a more limited event.

Should Bungie make any official announcements regarding a public Destiny Alpha, you’ll be able to catch the news right here.

A Warlock Wields a Badass “Thorn” Handgun In This Latest Destiny Screen, More E3 Details

Searching for something new to satisfy the cravings of anxious Destiny fans, Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague digs up a new image of a sinister looking Warlock wielding what the studio calls the “Thorn,” a powerful handgun of sorts.

There’s also more to learn from Bungie’s latest weekly update, so check out the new screen below and read on!

DestinyIn this week’s update, Dague talks about Bungie’s upcoming trip to E3 2014, where the studio plans to show off Destiny’s competitive multiplayer and “much more.”

“The E3 conversation will illuminate much more than just competitive multiplayer (you’ll never get me to say ‘PVP’),” Dague wrote. “Our goal is to breed better understanding for the Destiny player experience. If we do our jobs right, that conversation will extend well beyond the day when the LA Convention Center kicks us out and sends us home.”

Dague also assured non-MMO players that Destiny won’t burden you with an overwhelming sense of scale, as most MMO RPGs tend to do.

We’re not making an MMO, but we just might have something that will capture the imaginations of both of you,” he said. “We have no homework assignments for you. You’ll be just fine if you show up with a clean slate, a sense of adventure, and an itchy trigger finger. Come as you are, and prepare to fight for your life.”

Destiny arrives on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 September 9 with a Beta launching this July.

We recently learned that both PS4 and PS3 users will be able to pre-load digital pre-orders of Destiny onto their console ahead of the game’s release on September 4. Check out the details here.

In 2054, military tech has advanced in ways we might not be able to imagine right now, but are rooted in today’s designs.

Sledgehammer Games’ depicts their vision of this future in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare with some pretty crazy gadgets like 3D-printing assault rifles and plasma weapons. Check out the ‘advanced’ new military tech that you’ll be able to get your hands on this November 4 below:

Liquid matter loaded into the assault rifle is printed as real ammunition which should dramatically reduce reload times.

Plasma-Powered Rifle

This is the same plasma rifle seen mounted on an SUV in Advanced Warfare’s debut trailer.

EXO Suit

CODguyrotatefull

Advanced Warfare’s EXO suit will offer players enhanced in-game abilities, including extra strength, boost-jumps, boost-dodge, and much more. The EXO suits in Advanced Warfare carry a smaller battery size than the prototypes in development today, increasing player mobility drastically. You can read all about what it can do in our earlier report.

Hover Bike

bikebluefull

Inspired by a fusion of the motorcycle and snowmobile, Advanced Warfare’s hover bike features a windshield composed of “smart glass” that allows UI to meld with others in the game. It’s angular armor is designed to deflect enemy fire and shifts as the bike moves. It’s seen hovering about Detroit in Advanced Warfare’s debut trailer.

Aircraft

helicopterfull

Aircraft in Advanced Warfare is designed to better withstand explosives and projectiles. Sledgehammer predicts that aircraft in the future will take-off vertically, eliminating the need for runways.

Sledgehammer says that all types of future tech will be embedded into Advanced Warfare’s world, including civilian smart glass tech and digitized street signs. However, the studio still hopes to keep this Call of Duty gritty and grounded in reality which is something fans have come to expect from the series.

Be sure to check out all the details on Advanced Warfare’s 2054 tech in GameInformer’s write-up.

What’s your take on plasma weapons and 3D-printed ammunition? Is it feasible a few decades down the road?

Injustice: Gods Among Us Dev Releases Hotfix To Thwart Recently Found Bat Girl Infinite Combo

With Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament 2014 now underway, the Injustice: Gods Among Us community has become weary about a recent discovery from RG|Sonic Fox that could destroy the current metagame for the DC fighter.

Sonic Fox’s recent discovery reveals an infinite combo for Batgirl, which clearly spells bad news for the competitive community. You can see it in action below:

Excuse the music…

[youtube id=”Du8pU0BlbEs”]

Luckily, it appears that NetherRealm Studios, the developer responsible for both Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us, has surprised everyone with the release of a new hot fix for the game yesterday that aims to thwart Batgirl’s infinite combo – just in time for UFGT 2014, which takes place today and concludes over the weekend.

According to the official patch notes, it appears they addressed the issue by decreasing the hit advantage on Batgirl’s Flying Bat special move to prevent the combo loop.

Unfortunately, the hotfix isn’t available yet as of this writing for the PC and PlayStation 4 version of the game.

In other news, NetherRealm head Ed Boon has been counting down to June 2 for an upcoming project that he’s been cryptically hinting at for some time now. Stay tuned for more news!

Titanfall Developer Describes the Pitfalls of Matchmaking, Major Improvements Incoming, CTF Returns on PC

Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment admits it has some work to do when it comes to successful matchmaking in their debut shooter on the PC and Xbox One.

In a very lengthy blog post on their official website, the studio went into precise details on the differences between Titanfall’s matchmaking system, dubbed “Stryder,” and other avenues of match finding like server browsers, as well as why the team chose the route they did.

Respawn also admittedly describes the woes of the current state of matchmaking on the PC and Xbox One and how it has recently lead to a few unfavorable playlist decisions that has understandably angered some of Titanfall’s player base. You can read up these things in great detail over on the Titanfall Blog, but here’s what you need to know with regards to what’s happening next.

“Well, first, we’re bringing the CTF playlist back on PC,” Respawn writes. “Furthermore, we’re introducing a test of even wider region searches. If you’re searching for 5 minutes without starting a game, Stryder will eventually widen your search to include neighboring continents. This means you might end up in a game with a much higher ping than you’re used to, but as players pointed out; playing is preferred to not playing at all! The 5 minutes is a rough estimation as Stryder may very well use a much shorter time if it can determine from its real-time view of the globe that waiting 1 or 5 minutes will have no tangible difference. Like with many attributes of matchmaking, we’re tweaking and tracking or slicing data differently almost daily. Our engineers spend A LOT of time staring at graphs and analytics.”

In addition the studio explains that it is “working towards all sorts of cool behind-the-scenes features to increase visibility and control over matchmaking. Lobbies will show ‘Connecting…’ on player slots when players are joining a match to avoid the misconception that your game may not fill up, causing you or other players to leave prematurely. We know no one wants to play a 3v6 round.

“We’re also adding a last resort measure to re-balance lobbies that have been constructed from disparate skill groups or couldn’t be balanced in time by matchmaking. We’re going to start rebalancing teams during the lobby countdown if they’re lopsided. 6v4 matches will balance to 5v5, and we’ll shuffle players so that teams have even skill. The premise for our choice prior to this change was that we needed to account for parties that can’t be broken up. In other words, we needed to face the worst problem head on, and we’ll continue to find more ways to balance these lobbies and do better for the lobbies that don’t have the party problem. It turns out a majority of teams will have a party of 2 players and less than 5% of teams are a party of 6.”

Furthermore, the studio also mentioned that they are tracking player attributes like mic and chat use in hopes to group like-minded gamers together. New game modes, tweaks for existing game modes, and Hashtag matchmaking is also in the works, but expect details a little later on.

“We plan to keep the playlist selection of Titanfall fresh and fun, with engaging new ways to play and switch-ups to old favorites,” Respawn assures.
