Titanfall – Top Down Views of All 15 Multiplayer Maps

Just over one week away from Titanfall’s official launch on the Xbox One and PC and we’re learning much more about the game than developer Respawn Entertainment most likely ever intended.

Along with previous leaks of in-game screens and and the new “Pilot Hunter” game mode, Reddit user FallenFusion has now leaked top-down images of all 15 Titanfall maps, including screen captures of key landmarks that make up the character of each map.

We don’t want to post them here, but they’ve been saved on this NeoGAF thread that you can check out for yourself. We’ll also throw up a slight spoiler caution if you’re the type that likes to experience new maps (or a new game, for that matter) for the first time on your own. But if you’re all about careful study of map layouts, then feel free to follow the link above.

Here are a couple of shots of two of the maps you played in the Titanfall Xbox One and PC beta last month, Angel City and Fracture.

Report – Call of Duty 2014 Development Ramps Up, Next-Gen Visual Effects on Xbox 360 and PS3?

Sledgehammer Games is building staff as the studio ramps up development on Call of Duty 2014, recently rumored to be a new entry in the Modern Warfare series.

According to a handful of job listings we dug up, the studio is looking for positions ranging from UI designers and graphic artists to level designers and character artists. A total of 11 positions were listed.

Most interesting of the bunch was a listing for VFX artists who’s description read that they “will work closely with the Lead VFX Artist, Art Director, Technical Art Director, Lighting and Design team to create the most exceptional real-time effects with hyper realism for our current project.”

In addition, the “candidates will have the opportunity to contribute in various areas of in-game effects including but not excluding weaponry effects, vehicle destruction, large-scaled rigid body simulations and environmental effects such as fire, smoke, water, and weather system.

Also of note was the listing’s qualifications that include “at least 2 to 3 years of next-gen visual effects development on console hardware (360, PS3),” as well as “experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current generation hardware (360, PS3).” Can we expect “next-gen visual effects” on current-gen hardware?

Earlier, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said that Call of Duty 2014 would be “a next-gen-first production and the current-gen game will be a version of that.”

Leave your thoughts in the comments and be sure to keep your sights on MP1st for everything Call of Duty!

Titanfall Leaks Show In-Game Screens, Details New Game Mode, Ziplines, and More

New Titanfall leaks show a number of in-game screens of previously unseen maps while detailing new gameplay mechanics like ziplines and turrets. It also describes a new game mode called “Pilot Hunter”.

Redditor FallenFusion has posted the screens that you can take a look at below. You’ll find images of 10 of the previously leaked 15 multiplayer maps, as well as a shots of the newly discovered Turret and how the “Generations” ranking screen might look like.

As for the new game mode, FallenFusion describes “Pilot Hunter” as a mode where players “kill the enemy team’s Pilots to reach the score limit and win—one point is awarded for each Pilot killed. Although killing Grunts and Spectres in this mode will not earn points towards your team’s score, doing so will still give you build time reductions on your replacement Titans and Titan Core Ability.”

Turrets are “designed for killing everything—including Titans,” according to the info. “When used out in the field, they are often braced into position in urban environments atop buildings, and have a considerable range of motion and excellent target tracking systems. Multiple Titans are usually required to disable a single heavy turret by focusing their fire on it. They operate autonomously and, in most cases, can be ‘flipped’ (to fight for the other team) when a nearby console is compromised, often with a Data Knife.”

Lastly, the leaker describes Ziplines as being “especially helpful in CTF matches and escaping areas quickly. You can attach to it from either end or even while in midair (assuming you’re close enough.) You hold the reload button to latch on and ride.” It was also noted that these Ziplines will work in both directions.

Titanfall – Respawn on Pilot-Only Modes, ‘We’ll See What Happens After Launch’

Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment hints at the possibility of a Pilot-only mode post-launch, despite previous statements.

During a special Microsoft Store event in Connecticut, Respawn Entertainment community manager Abbie Heppe mentioned that though a Pilot-only mode will certainly not be in the game on release, “we’ll see what happens after launch.”

Knowing the community’s interest in Titanfall game mode free of AI and Titans, we asked game director Steve Fukuda last month about the idea, despite the possibility of it messing with a number of the game’s built-in mechanics. “We’ve talked about these kinds of things. We haven’t gone forward with any of it,” he said. Without giving a yes or no answer, he added that it’s “something that’s sort of bouncing in our heads and we talk about it and we discuss whether that is the right direction.”

However, during a Titanfall beta developer live stream, the studio rather blatantly said “no” to the idea and that “it’s called Titanfall”.

If Heppe’s words mean anything, it’s that the studio may be open to the idea if it’s something the community really pushes for. For now, it’s all about TITANfall.

What are your thoughts? Does a Pilot-only mode belong in a game like Titanfall? Let’s hear it in the comments!

Titanfall To Have ‘Character Driven Cinematic Experiences’, Both ‘Familiar and Groundbreaking’

One of the biggest challenges for Respawn Entertainment is creating a story-driven experience in a multiplayer-only game like Titanfall. So how can the studio captivate its audiences who are looking for more in-depth details on the setting and characters of it’s upcoming shooter?

Speaking with Games, senior map designer Mohammad Alavi answered this question, saying that the team is “telling a story through a first person perspective in ways that are both traditional to single player campaigns and very new for multiplayer… at least for First Person Shooters.”

“Without going into too much boring detail about client/server logistics, asynchronous scripting, and other buzzwords, I can tell you that from the end user experience it feels both familiar and groundbreaking at the same time,” he said.

He goes on to state that each “multiplayer level has an objective that is presented in a cinematic way with twists and turns that occur as you play. From picture in picture updates from NPCs, events that unfold in-game, to the AI soldiers reacting on the ground, the narrative unfolds naturally and ties in seamlessly with the gameplay. Along with the main story arch, major and minor characters react and acknowledge your direct actions creating a personal experience crafted just for you set in a larger framework. In multiplayer lobbies we continue the narrative to help bridge the gaps between levels. You’ll be changing your loadouts and viewing unlocks while listening to mission briefings that drive the plot along.”

“I know it all sounds like ‘back of the box’ bullet points, but we’ve gone to great lengths to present a character driven cinematic experience, and immerse you in a living, breathing world, without ever taking control away from the player. It feels like singleplayer, but it also feels like multiplayer” describes Alavi. “There’s no other way to describe it. Even after working on the game for years now, I still have moments when I jump out of the dropship with a squad of my real life friends, look up at what’s unfolding before my eyes and literally say out loud, ‘I can’t believe this is multiplayer’.”

What are your thoughts? Are you excited that Respawn has taken a leap of faith to not include a single player campaign in Titanfall, but a multiplayer campaign instead?

Destiny – Bungie ‘Will Do Far More’ Than Allow You To Stream the Beta

Bungie is going to do “far more” than allow you to live stream Destiny‘s beta this summer.

According to the latest Bungie Weekly Update, the studio “will do far more than allow you to share your glorious war stories from the frontier,” says community manager “Deej”. “We’ll amplify your voices, if they are brave. Some of you will even be selected to play a role in our stories, as we go to war with (and against) our community in the wild for the first time. That will be as glorious a moment for us as it will be for you. Watch this space. We have plans within plans within plans.”

“Destiny, after all, is a thing to be shared.”

It’s not entirely clear what Deej’s rather cryptic words might actually mean, but it sounds like a number of community and live stream events are in the works for Destiny’s beta, announced to come to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 first.

Answering more fan question, Deej also made it clear that service years on Bungie.net will be reflected in-game, though no specifics were given.

According to the update, it also sounds like the studio has shifted gears on to a new phase of development and are now working on a brand new build of the game. Game designer Luke Smith said these “next eight weeks are where it all comes together.”

In closing, Deej wrote that this “great time of reckoning will not be the end of our journey.”

“If you’re thinking you’re two months from seeing this game on your shelf, I’m still here to ask you to put on the brakes. The next phase awaits, in which you’ll be invited to launch head-long into the world we’ve constructed, like a test pilot clad in exotic armor,” he wrote, presumably referring to the game’s upcoming beta.

Destinly launches on the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 September 9. Keep your sights on MP1st for more on the game!

The Division to Have “Little or no Interruption” Between PvP, Co-Op, and Solo Play

In The Division, developer Ubisoft Massive hopes to create an open, living, breathing world that integrates seamlessly into the game’s solo play, co-operative play, and competitive play with “with very little or no interruption.”

It might sound a little ambitious, but with the studio’s powerful new Snowdrop engine, they aim to create a true next-gen experience on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

“The game is built around seamless online integration,” Massive recently said in a Q&A. “Going from playing alone, to playing in a group, to playing PvP will all be handled with very little or no interruption.”

Much like the scenario depicted in the game’s initial reveal trailer, players will be able to shift from one experience to the other with no hassle.

“In the game you will be able to team up with a group of friends in co-op and jump in and jump out at any time,” Massive says. “In certain areas, you can also seamlessly engage in PvP and experience dangerous, suspenseful scenarios; but you will be able to play as a group without being exposed to PvP.”

Players will also be able to explore a gigantic landscape in The Division that Massive believes “is going to be the largest and most detailed New York City ever seen in a video game and we want the player to feel like they are actually exploring the city with all its landmarks, street names and atmosphere.”

With the Snowdrop engine, showcased at last year’s VGX Awards, Massive wants to “create a universe offering a wide variety of features, such as a reactive living-world system with complex AI, procedural destruction and dynamic global illumination,” the studio said.

“We are also able to integrate more objects than ever before in the environment in order to create a devastated New York City that looks both realistic and frightening.”

Still, no solid release date is set for The Division, but keep your sights on MP1st for more on the game.

We reported earlier that Battlefield 4’s Naval Strike expansion was confirmed for a late March release, and according to one DICE Stockholm developer, it will also be the studio’s last expansion for Battlefield 4 as DLC production moves over to DICE LA.

On Reddit, a DICE developer who goes by the name “Darklord” confirmed that “DICE Stockholm is doing Naval Strike, everything else will be done by DICE LA.”

Made up of varying talent including ex-Medal of Honor developers from the recently closed Danger Close studio, DICE LA was only opened last May but quickly got to work on Battlefield 4’s Second Assault expansion that launched for everyone last February 18. According to Darklord, they will also handle the reins on Battlefield 4’s Dragon’s Teeth and Final Stand expansions.

While this doesn’t come at a surprise, knowing DICE is developing the sequel to Mirror’s Edge 2 and the next Star Wars: Battlefront game, it’s a bit worrying to hear that the studio who developed Battlefield 4’s base game are seemingly packing up and moving onto to other projects. Earlier statements from the studio made it clear that they would not be moving on to future projects or expansions until Battlefield 4’s issues are resolved.

How do you feel about this? Are you confident that the developers behind Second Assault can handle the last two DLCs in Battlefield 4’s life span? Let us know in the comment section below!

Battlefield 4 Naval Strike – First Look, ARX 160 Assault Rifle Spotted

Get your first peek of Battlefield 4’s third multiplayer expansion, Naval Strike.

Through Battlefield’s official blog, developer DICE is giving anxious fans their first look at the game’s ocean-themed Naval Strike DLC that’s set to introduce four new multiplayer maps, new weapons, new vehicles, new assignments, and the exciting new Carrier Assault game mode in late March.

“Water-based combat has always been a vital part of the all-out war of Battlefield 4, and with Battlefield 4 Naval Strike the fights at sea are more intense than ever,” reads the blog. “With the introduction of the amphibious hovercraft vehicle, your possibilities to dominate the sea will be even greater.”

More details on Carrier Assault are to come, according to the blog. Here’s what the blog had to say about Naval Strike’s four new maps:

“Blow open a crashed passenger plane and capture fishing villages across the tropical Lost Islands. Drop a submarine on your foes as you infiltrate a naval base or rush between shipping docks and rocky islands on the massive Wave Breaker map. Wage war across stormy seas in the largest ocean stretch in a Battlefield map yet with Nansha Strike. Storm an abandoned cliff-side resort, or get lost in the breathtaking vistas in Operation Mortar.”

Update

It appears that the soldier in the screen below is holding one of Naval Strike’s five new weapons, which we believe looks strikingly similar to the Beretta ARX 160 Italian modular assault rifle (ignoring the fact that he is holding the weapon by the magazine and not the handle and that the weapon’s stock is clipping into his shoulder). What do you guys think?
