Dark Souls 2 – New Trailer And Multiplayer Details

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the team behind Dark Souls 2 would be making a more accessible game to accommodate newer players. Naturally, this wasn’t taken too lightly be the hardcore fans, as many went out to suggest that the game would now be far easier for anyone to pick-up and would lack that trade mark challenge the series is known for. We’ll, new details have surfaced revealing that this probably wont’t be the case.

Steven O’Donnell, host of the Australia’s Good Game, had the opportunity to try out Dark Souls 2. He stated in his tweets that Dark Souls 2 will be much harder and harsher in terms of death and multiplayer. In past games, dying only depleted your health to a set value. However, Dark Souls 2 will now continue to lower an undead player’s health if they continue to die. With the multiplayer, co-op will now be set to time limits. This is a shock, considering that we have always been able to play through a full area in co-op. There will be a variety of different summoning stones, which will stretch from a mere five minutes to even higher value yet announced.

The player vs player system is also changing, and possibly for the worse. This time around, if you are undead, you are not protected by invaders like in the previous title. This announcement has already received a wide variety of feelings as many who want to still be connected online, don’t want to be invaded during their sessions.

Also, if you missed the Tokyo Game Show trailer, here it is below.

[youtube id=”h297i5Bm5NI” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Dark Souls 2 is set to releases March 2014 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and on the PC a bit later. No news whether this will come to either next-generation home consoles.

Battlefield 4 – Weapon Customization and Tier Reloading Detailed by Lead Core Game Designer

Battlefield 4‘s lead core game designer Alan Kertz details some of the new weapon mechanics being introduced in the game this Fall, including weapon customization and tiered reloading.

Speaking to FTW’s Matt Cuttle, Kertz shows off some of the new ways you can customize your weapons with different sights, grips, barrel options and much more. As with any vehicle, weapons can also be painted with an assortment of camoflauge patterns, including an adaptive camo that automatically adapts to the environment of the map you are playing on.

Many will be happy to see the introduction of tiered reloading, which basically allows you to continue a reload from where you left off, if you happened to switch weapons or perform some other action mid-reload. You can check it out in action in the video below.

[youtube id=”o5jYY4vH1SE” width=”618″ height=”378″]

You can get your hands on all of Battlefield 4’s weapons (including my favorite M1911 hand gun) this October 29 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, November 15 on the PlayStation 4 and November 22 on the Xbox One.

The Battlefield 4 beta opens on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC October 4 with early access beginning October 1.

Rumor – GTA Online To Feature Cash Card ‘Transactions’

Even though Rockstar are still tight-lipped about the multiplayer portion of Grand Theft Auto 5 releasing this October 1, new information has recently surfaced that suggests the studio may be implementing some type of micro-transction feature into GTA Online.

According to an XML file, GTA Online could feature some type of cash card transactions in the GTA store. The value of these cash cards are said to range from $100,000 – $1,250,000. additionally the description of each card reads the following:

“Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.”

At the moment, Rockstar hasn’t officially announced any plans for micro-transactions in GTA 5 or GTA Online. For more information about GTA Online, feel free to check out our recent article that gives some brief insight on Grand Theft Auto 5’s multiplayer.

Valve Reveal Pt. 1 – Standalone SteamOS Available Soon, Next Reveal on Wednesday

Those looking for an official SteamBox will have to wait a bit longer.

Today as apart of their three-stage reveal, Valve released details for its standalone operating system called SteamOS. Built on top of the Linux architecture, SteamOS promises to provide developers with “significant performance increases in graphics processing” and let users “alter or replace any part of the software or hardware they want”. The standalone OS will be available to download for free “soon” and will work with your existing computer.

So what does this all mean? In its attempt to compete with other living room gaming devices, Valve has removed desktop operating systems such as Windows and OS X out of the equation. SteamOS provides developers with a streamlined solution for developing games while simultaneously providing openness to gamers so they can enjoy their Steam library on their computers, in the living room, or potentially the mobile platform.

While no plans were announced to discontinue support for other OS’s, it seems the writing is on the wall for both the Windows and OS X clients.

What do you make of Valve’s announcement? Getting a partition ready on your hard drive to install SteamOS? What do you think Pt. 2 of the reveal has in store? Let us know in the comments below.

Report – GTA Online Coding Hints At 32 Player Cap And Game Modes [Updated]

Update

Rockstar has commented on the 32-player rumor, confirming that “GTA Online will support 16 players.”

Screen Shot 2013-09-23 at 1.38.13 PM

Original Story

Despite Grand Theft Auto V’s online portion of the game, GTA Online, being just a few days away until its October 1 release date, it appears that information regarding game modes and player count has been recently leaked.

According to Cinemablend, Rockstar will be bringing back fan-game modes to GTA Online like Cops and Crooks, Free For All, Races and, of course, a Team Deathmatch mode. Although these game modes’ return should come to no real surprise, seeing as they were featured in Grand Theft Auto IV, it looks like the folks over at Rockstar will be giving the player cap a slight bump.

GTA Online is billed to host 16 players at once as they indulge in various game modes and activities, including some of the 500 missions that Rockstar has already created once GTA Online is available. However, some of the configuration files for these game modes hint at a possible 32 player cap.

Don’t get your hopes too high though, as the 32 player cap could simply be for the alleged PC and PlayStation 4 versions of the game, for which coding and assets have been found within both the game itself and in the companion app “iFruit”, available now for iOS devices and soon for Android devices.

Speaking of those 500 missions, some tid-bits of info have surfaced, claiming some of the missions will have you assassinating another player while it’s up to the cops to try and stop this assassination from happening.

Additionally, it seems that the Cops and Crooks game mode will be featuring some interesting improvements such as cops being able to use scanners to check license plates to see if the vehicle is stolen. That, in turn, can alert the police to any suspect and assign a squad car to come and arrest them.

Grand Theft Auto V is available now for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which GTA Online soon to follow this October 1.

Are you guys looking forward to GTA Online? Let us know in the comment section below!

Watch Battlefield 4 Running on the PlayStation 4

After waves of spectacular, jaw-dropping PC footage from events like E3 and Gamescom, Battlefield 4 fans finally get their first sighting of the game running on next-generation console hardware.

A user on HypeUp.net who goes by the name “Random” recalled his experience playing Battlefield 4 on the PlayStation 4 during TGS 2013, reporting that “there’s just nothing to criticize,” and that the game “ran at a smooth 60 fps looking amazing the entire time [with] no sign of low quality textures or any issues at all.”

Earlier reports from other media outlets criticized the game for looking muddy and unpolished on the PlayStation 4.

IGN has the off-screen video:

[youtube id=”DUTHvYj_4vA#t=29″ width=”618″ height=”378″]

It may be hard to make out from the off-screen footage, but it appears that Battlefield 4 is running without any glaring issues and looks very close to its PC counter-part. Naturally, it’s impossible to tell precisely until we get our hands on some high-definition footage of the game running on consoles.

We’ll get to see Battlefield 4 running on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this October 1 when the beta officially launches.

Thanks, NVG.

Takedown: Red Sabre – New Launch Trailer, Serellan Announces Delay on Xbox Live Marketplace

Takedown: Red Sabre, the tactical, team-based FPS from Serellan studios, launches today, but only on Steam.

Originally planned to launch on both Steam and the Xbox Live Marketplace, the studio recently had to announce a delay for the XBLA version due to some unforeseen bugs which were spotted at the last minute.

In a forum update, the studio wrote:

TAKEDOWN: Red Sabre for XBLA has been delayed. The team set out to release the PC and XBLA versions together but a last minute bug fix in submission at MSFT has meant that we lost our release slot. We expect to secure another slot as soon as we resubmit which will be in the next couple of days.

Regardless, you can still watch the game’s launch trailer while we wait for further updates regarding the XBLA version’s release date. Be sure to keep your sights on MP1st for the latest word!

Steam Launches Teaser Website For Unannounced Hardware

“The Steam Universe is Expanding in 2014”, reads the header on Steam’s brand new teaser site meant to gain excitement for the company’s upcoming announcement, which Valve Co-Founder Gabe Newell teased at this year’s LinuxCon.

The site, which you can visit for yourself right here, pictures a blue sun in the center (featured image) with some odd symbols underneath, which we assume bears some sort of significance. You’ll also notice a countdown timer to what we believe is the product’s announcement. Looks like we have 68 hours and 45 minutes to go as of this writing.

Near the bottom, the site reads:

Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads. This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.

Lastly, the site also pictures a cat along-side a console controller lying on the ground next to it.

Screen Shot 2013-09-20 at 12.29.13 PM

If that doesn’t tease some sort of Steam console, then we don’t know what does. Steam Box, reveal yourself!

GTA 5 Breaks Entertainment Record, Earns $1 Billion In First Three Days of Release

Grand Theft Auto 5 has become the biggest selling entertainment property worldwide, ever.

On the first day of GTA 5’s release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 across all countries except Japan and Brazil last Tuesday, September 17, publisher Take-Two announced over $800 million in sales generated. Two days later, and the epic sandbox shooter from Rockstar North soars up and over another milestone, earning $1 billion within its first three days of release.

According to a report by Seeking Alpha, Take-Two estimates GTA 5 “has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than $1 billion during its first three days on sale.” The company thinks no “entertainment property” (movies included) has hit that milestone as quickly.

Looks like Frankin, Trevor and Michael aren’t the only ones cashing in!

Take-Two has yet to announce the number of copies sold world-wide. GTA Online is still on course for its October 1 release date, opening up the game to a vast landscape of multiplayer content.

Black Ops 2 Treyarch Community Update – Apocalypse DLC Free Trial, Double Weapon XP Weekend, and More

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may finally be on the tail end of its life cycle, but that doesn’t mean the studio behind the blockbuster FPS is without a plan to keep you engaged in some fun activities.

Yesterday, Treyarch put together a small community update video detailing some of the upcoming Black Ops 2 events you can look forward to in the coming weeks.

Of course, today marks the start of double XP across all platforms, so you can soak up some of that extra XP throughout the weekend until this Monday at 10am PDT on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC. Today also marks the start of a free trial run of the Black Ops 2 Apocalypse DLC for Xbox 360 users. That means you’ll be able to give some of the new maps a shot for free until this Wednesday, September 25th.

Shortly following the release of the Apocalypse DLC on the PlayStation 3 and PC this September 26, the studio will be hosting a cross-platform double weapon XP event from September 27 at 10am PDT to September 30 at 10am PDT.

There are also a number of community game nights to participate in next week with community leaders like Dan “One of Swords” Amrich on the PS3 this September 26, CODBlackIce on the Xbox 360 this September 27 and members of the PC dev team on September 30.

On October 1, Black Ops 2 developers will be joining in some live streaming of a few rounds of multiplayer and zombies games, along with a special guest or two. You might want to pay attention to this particular live stream, as the studio will be dropping a few hints as to where you might find a real life Black Ops 2 care package.

Check out the full video below for more details, a recap of Black Ops 2’s fourth and final DLC, Apocalypse, and a special send off from the entire Treyarch dev team.

Takedown: Red Sabre Co-Op Developer Walkthrough

Looking to classic PC shooters like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon for inspiration, Serellan Studios hopes to bring back the more unforgiving, tactical and team-based FPS gameplay of old with their upcoming PC and Xbox Live Arcade title, Takedown: Red Sabre.

Giving you a better look at some of the more team-oriented aspects of the game, creator Christian Allen and gang have put together this co-op demo, showing you how they move together through the map “Biolab” as a tight-knit squad of four.

[youtube id=”_j1s-mMBz80″ width=”618″ height=”378″]

As you can see, it’s not quite the cakewalk you’d expect from today’s shooters, as the AI can be extremely ruthless. Communication is key, as is cautious movement and a quick trigger finger.

You’ll be able to pick up Takedown: Red Sabre on Steam or the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow, Friday, September 20, for $14.99.

GTA 5 Earns $800 Million on First Day, Beating Out Black Ops 2 In Day-1 Sales

As you may have guessed, Grand Theft Auto 5 made a lot of money on its first day of release.

Publisher Take-Two estimates the game, which launched on September 17 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 world wide, except for Japan and Brazil, has reached $800 million in sales on its first day out on the market.

By comparison, Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, last year, sold $500 million in copies on day-1, reaching the $1 billion mark 15 days after release. Black Ops 2 currently holds the record as the entertainment release quickest to reach the $1 billion mark, beating out other entertainment releases like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and James Cameron’s Avatar.

Take-Two also confirmed that more than 8,300 stores in North America held midnight launch events for GTA 5, though they’ve yet to announce the actual number of copies sold thus far.

More GTA is to come with the release of GTA Online this October 1. Are you excited?
