Killzone: Shadow Fall Download Weights In 50GB

If you were planning on buying Killzone: Shadow Fall digitally off the PlayStation Store when it launches this November, you may want to know that it’s gonna take quiet a chunk out of that 500 GB hard-drive on your PlayStation 4, and also a chunk of your bandwidth.

In an Interview with Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara confirmed that the game will be somewhere around 50 GB, possibly more.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.

While the download size of Killzone: Shadow Fall is rather huge, remember, you won’t have to wait that long to play since the PlayStation 4 will allow you to play once a download has reached a certain point. Also, Shadow Fall will have options to let players choose what they want to download and play first. So, if you’re someone looking for some single-player, then you can instantly jump into that, and vice-versa with the multiplayer.

It is, however, not recommended for those with slow download speeds. I suggest you go retail, rather than digital, if that is indeed an issue.

New Battlefield 4 Footage Shows Off Flood Zone Map and More Multiplayer Action

Watch DICE multiplayer designer Thomas Andersson flood an entire map in Battlefield 4 as he shows off more aspects of “Levolution”, a concept which the game’s entire multiplayer will heavily revolve around.

Matt Cuttle of FTW once again sits down with Battlefield developers at DICE to talk multiplayer, this time with a specific focus on the design of the new Battlefield 4 multiplayer map, Flood Zone. You might recognize it from recent Battlefield 4 multiplayer trailers showing off a destroyed dam holding water that floods an entire map.

You’ll get to see it in action in this video presentation below. You can also catch some brand new multiplayer footage near the end, so stay tuned.

New Battlelog Update Enables “Invisible Mode” And Resolves Missing Battlefield 4 Beta Bug

YouTube personalities with a large following, or those who simply wish to enjoy gaming while appearing offline, will be happy to receive the latest Battelog update which recently hit in preparation for tomorrow’s Battlefield 4 early access beta on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

According to the dev team behind Battlefield 3’s – and soon-to-be-Battlefield 4’s – social stat-tracking service, a recent update has not only resolved an “issue where players couldn’t find the Exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta in their Origin library”, but will now also allow users to “enable Invisible mode on Battlelog in the settings.”

That means you’ll be able to play Battlefield 4, including Battlefield 3, while appearing offline, should you wish to game in a more solitary state, free of uninvited “guests” trying to enter your match.

As a reminder, PC users with early access should be sure to hit up the Origin client to pre-download the Battlefield 4 beta so you’ll be ready to hit the ground running as soon as it goes live 08:00 AM UTC. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users with early access privileges will be able to download the beta tomorrow through their respective marketplaces.

The Battlefield 4 beta will open up to the public this October 4.

See you on the Battlefield!

Rumor – Destiny Website Hints At Potential Beta Via Pre-Order

Those who have been eyeing Bungie’s latest IP, Destiny, releasing for both current and next-generation consoles sometime early next year may get the chance to try it out early, according to the game’s website.

An interesting piece of coding within the website spotted by Reddit member Patefaps, who has discovered the following:

Beta Access for people who Pre-Order from select sellers – line 1778 to 1780 shows this little snippet of code: ” Pre-order Destiny at select retailers and receive admission to the Destiny Beta. Play it first. Become Legend.

Interestingly enough, the above coding only appeared in the Canadian and United Kingdom version of the site, suggesting that the beta may only be available in those two markets, unless it was already removed from the US site. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the coding has also been removed from all websites.

Furthermore, some of the retailers such as Amazon and Gamestop set to carry Destiny when it’s released make no mention of a beta for Destiny.

Killzone: Shadow Fall Multiplayer Q&A – Dedicated Servers Confirmed, Frame Rate “60FPS”, And More

With only two months left till release, Guerrilla Games has provided yet another update on Killzone: Shadow Fall’s multiplayer, answering many questions that players had at this year’s Eurogamer Expo.

[youtube id=”BpRSl8i_0fk” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Down below you can read the full Q&A, which covers many areas of Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer

  • Q: Will Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer have a variable frame rate?

A: No, we’re running 60fps. However, the game may drop a few frames in extreme situations – when there are a lot of GPU-intensive things going on at once. Guaranteeing a constant 60fps under such circumstances would’ve required undesired concessions. We wanted to make sure Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer would present a visual spectacle, boasting a stunning level of detail in 1080p at 60fps, while still allowing 24 players and their drones (effectively 48 entities) to take part at once. We’re very proud of the results – when you move through the maps you’ll notice lots of intricate details, from beautiful reflective surfaces to individually moving leaves on the foliage.

We’ve also received several questions about the new Classes and their abilities:

  • Q: What happened to [multiplayer class X] from previous Killzone games?A: There are now three classes to choose from in Killzone Shadow Fall: Assault Class, Support Class and Scout Class. Classes from previous Killzone titles such as the Tactician, Engineer and Medic are now represented by the secondary abilities of the highly versatile Support Class. We’ll have more on the Support Class and the Scout Class in upcoming Killzone.com articles.
  • Q: How are the Assault Class Nano Shields balanced?

A: As mentioned in our Assault Class article, Nano Shields can block enemy attacks while allowing your projectiles through. Activation isn’t instantaneous, though – there’s a slight delay as you set it up, and you won’t be able to wield your weapon during this period. After activation you have to wait until the shield is destroyed or dismantled before you can place a new one.
  • Q: How are the Support Class Spawn Beacons balanced?A: Killzone Shadow Fall sees the return of player-deployed spawn points, known as Spawn Beacons. The Support Class has the ability to place them almost anywhere in the map (like Killzone 2’s Spawn Grenades), but it takes a while to set them up (like Killzone 3’s Tactical Spawn Points). Spawn Beacons can be destroyed by any class, although some weapons will yield quicker results than others.

Next, a couple of points about weapons in Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer:

  • Q: Will rocket launchers be secondary weapons, like in Killzone 3?A: Rocket launchers aren’t secondary weapons like they were for certain classes in Killzone 3. Instead, grenade launchers and rocket launchers will be available as attachments for the heavier primary weapons. This means less weapon switching in the heat of battle.
  • Q: I prefer hip-firing rather than aiming down sights – can I still do that?A: If you’re one of those players endowed with dead aim, you’ll be happy to know that ‘hip-firing’ (firing a weapon without using the sights) is still an option in Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer. Some weapons can only be fired by aiming down the sights, however – particularly the heavier/more dangerous ones.

Concerning the new Custom Warzones feature:

  • Q: Will there be official Warzones?

A: For those who prefer their Warzones tried-and-tested, there will be default Warzones to play in. In addition, Guerrilla will frequently try out and highlight new and interesting custom Warzones created by the community. Both types of Warzones will be easily accessible from inside the game.
  • Q: Can Challenges be completed in bots-only Warzones?A: To emphasize true skill and prevent players from artificially boosting their stats, custom Warzone games featuring bots will not count towards completing challenges in the Progression System.
  • Q: Can I play Custom Warzones against just my friends?A: Custom Warzones can be private games that only you and friends can play. This is particularly useful if you want to train in a less competitive environment, or if your custom Warzone is a work in progress that you’re not ready to share with the community yet.

A word about Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer network structure and colorblind support:

  • Q: What is Killzone Shadow Fall’s multiplayer network structure like?

A: Killzone Shadow Fall has dedicated servers hosted in various regions around the world. These servers do not run the logic of the game – they only act as a hub between the clients, forwarding network traffic from one player in game to all other players in game. This allows people with a slower connection or strict firewall settings to play without issues. Almost all logic relating to you (e.g. moving, shooting and taking damage) runs on your local PS4, with only a very small portion of the game logic (i.e. mission/scoring logic) running on the ‘session master’, one PS4 in the game selected for its connection quality.
  • Q: Will Killzone Shadow Fall offer colorblind support?

A: Killzone Shadow Fall will have colorblind support options that can be activated from the options menu.

Finally, the recent Season Pass announcement generated some confusion, so we’d like to clear that up:

  • Q:If multiplayer map packs are free, what is the Season Pass for?A: The Killzone Shadow Fall Season Pass entitles you to:- an online co-op expansion pack that introduces a brand-new horde mode for up to 4 players- three arena map packs for use with the online co-op expansion pack, and- two additional multiplayer expansion packs that will be detailed at a later date. The expansion packs and map packs covered by the Season Pass do not include maps for Killzone Shadow Fall’s built-in multiplayer mode – as we’ve said before, such maps will be released for free so as not to fragment the online community.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is set to be an exclusive launch title for the PlayStation 4 come November.

Valve Reveal Pt. 3 – Introducing the Steam Controller

Designed to work with all Steam games; past, present and future, as well as with the recently announce SteamOS and Steam Machine, Valve today has introduced the Steam Controller.

“We set out with a singular goal: bring the Steam experience, in its entirety, into the living-room. We knew how to build the user interface, we knew how to build a machine, and even an operating system. But that still left input — our biggest missing link,” Valve writes in Part 3 of their big reveal for the future of living-room gaming.

“We realized early on that our goals required a new kind of input technology — one that could bridge the gap from the desk to the living-room without compromises. So we spent a year experimenting with new approaches to input and we now believe we’ve arrived at something worth sharing and testing with you.”

Interestingly, the Steam Controller features two track pads, which are also clickable, instead of dual joysticks. Valve claims they “allow far higher fidelity input than has previously been possible with traditional handheld controllers.”

Taking into account the concern of lack of visceral feedback with a “light touch” trackpad, Valve has introduced a “new generation of super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. These small, strong, weighted electro-magnets are attached to each of the dual trackpads. They are capable of delivering a wide range of force and vibration, allowing precise control over frequency, amplitude, and direction of movement.”

The center of the controller is touch-screen enabled, also clickable, which “allows an infinite number of discrete actions to be made available to the player, without requiring an infinite number of physical buttons”. There are a total of 16 buttons on the controller, half of which are accessible without the player having to lift their thumbs off the track pad, and all of which are symmetrical, making it an ambidextrous piece of gaming hardware.

It is also possible to configure buttons and controls using the configuration tool, while legacy mode allows the controller to present itself as a keyboard and mouse.

controller_bindings

The controller was also “designed from the ground up to be hackable.” Valve writes, “just as the Steam Community and Workshop contributors currently deliver tremendous value via additions to software products on Steam, we believe that they will meaningfully contribute to the design of the Steam Controller. We plan to make tools available that will enable users to participate in all aspects of the experience, from industrial design to electrical engineering.”

controller_parts

Update

Individuals selected to participate in the Steam Machine hardware beta program will receive a wired Steam Controller, but without the clickable touchscreen, which will be replaced by four buttons instead.

More details to come.

What’s your take on this radical redesign of the traditional gaming controller? Is Valve on track to take over the living-room with their Steam Machine, Steam Controller and SteamOS combo?

Leave your thoughts in the comments!

The Last of Us DLC Detailed – Abandoned Territory Multiplayer Pack Arrives October 15

Sony and Naughty Dog detail what’s in store for The Last of Us fans and season pass owners eagerly awaiting word of new downloadable content.

Today, the studios have revealed the Abandoned Territory Pack, a new multiplayer map pack arriving this October 15.

You’ll get four new multiplayer mapes; Suburbs, Bus Depot, Hometown and Bookstore.

Stalk around in a dark, eerie, moonlit, environment – the perfect setting for some serious stealth – in the Hometown map. Bookstore features a stacked, bi-level layout adding a highly unique dose of vertical gameplay.

Check out some new screens of the four new maps below:

They also made mention of the following DLC to arrive later this year and early next year, explaining that DLC 2 will entail single player content tying to the narrative of The Last of Us, releasing this December-January, while DLC 3 will once again be multiplayer focused and will arrive in the first half of 2014.

Check Out Battlefield 4 Running on the Xbox One

More next-gen Battlefield 4 console footage emerges from yet another currently on-going video game expo.

Last week, we caught our first glimpse of Battlefield 4 console footage running on the PlayStation 4, which came straight from the Tokyo Game Show. Today, courtesy of YouTuber Wasif Akhtar, we get our first look at Battlefield 4 running on the Xbox One. The station was set up at Eurogamer Expo, which is currently taking place over in London.

As before, it is off-screen, so it’s hard to catch any clear details. However, proving that the game is running on Xbox One hardware, the camera man pans over to the actual system sitting underneath the table, so we know it’s really Xbox One gameplay. Nevertheless, it’s looking pretty good and there doesn’t seem to be any glaring differences from the PC footage we’ve seen so far.

Check it out!

UPDATE: It appears the video has been removed.

All Battlefield 4 Game Modes Detailed

Inching closer to its October 29 launch date, Battlefield 4 developers DICE are slowly spilling everything there is to know about the game.

Earlier today, we learned about all 10 maps that will be featured in Battlefield 4’s multiplayer and caught our fist glimpse of each. Now DICE is talking game modes, revealing all seven that will be playable in the game at launch, two of which you’ll get your first taste of during the official Battlefield 4 beta, happening this October 1.

So, courtesy of the latest Battlefield Blog update, let’s take a look at all seven Battlefield 4 multiplayer game modes.

Battlefield 4 Game Modes

Conquest (Playable in the Battlefield 4 Beta)

  • Combat type: The definitive Battlefield mode –  All-out vehicle warfare mixed with intense infantry action across land, air and sea
  • Designed for: 24 players (X360, PS3) / 64 players (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
  • Commander mode: Optional

Capture flags and lower the enemy’s ticket count to zero by eliminating soldiers.

Domination (Playable in the Battlefield 4 Beta)

  • Combat type: Fast-paced infantry variant of Conquest
  • Designed for: 20 players (all platforms)
  • Commander mode: No

The infantry-only version of Conquest played on a smaller scale.

Obliteration

  • Combat type: Mad dash in vehicles and on foot to deliver explosives
  • Designed for: 24 (X360, PS3) 32 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
  • Commander mode: Optional

New Mode. Fight for a single bomb that randomly spawns on a portion of the map and destroy all three enemy objective points.

Defuse

  • Combat type: Competitive close quarters combat
  • Designed for: 5 vs. 5 players (all platforms)
  • Commander mode: No

New mode. A competitive, infantry-only game mode where players with only one life must either eliminate the enemy team, or arm and detonate a military objective that they own. Teammates can be revived once per round.

Team Deathmatch

  • Combat type: The classic shooter mode, Battlefield 4 style
  • Designed for: 20 players (all platforms)
  • Commander mode: No

As a team, reach the kill count limit before the other team does.

Rush

  • Combat type: Fight deep into enemy territory by detonating their M-COM stations
  • Designed for: 24 players (X360, PS3) 32 players (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
  • Commander mode: Optional

An asymmetrical game mode where attackers must arm and destroy two objectives in various zones of the map, progressing further until victory is reached. Defenders must stop the attackers by lowering their ticket count to zero.

Squad Deathmatch

  • Combat type: Four squads fight on the ground with limited vehicle support in a race to the top of the leaderboard
  • Designed for: 16 players (all platforms)
  • Commander mode: Optional

Similar to Team Deathmatch, but with four different quads competing against each other.

We’re pretty excited about the classic modes like Conquest and Rush, but some of the new ones like the more competitive Defuse mode sound really interesting. What will you be hopping into first when you get your hands on Battlefield 4?

We leave you with a few new images also posted on the blog:

Battlefield 4 Beta – Everything You Need to Know

Battlefield developers Digital Illusions CE are kicking things off this October 1 with the official Battlefield 4 beta on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Taking the time to address Battlefield’s biggest fans, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson took to the Battlefield Blog earlier today to lay out everything you need to know about the upcoming beta.

This October 1 and 4, Beta testers will have access to the Battlefield series’ trademark game mode, Conquest, on the map Siege of Shanghai, first shown off at this year’s E3. [Correction: “Domination” will also be playable in the Battlefield 4 beta.] The team is calling SoS DICE’s most “Battlefield-y” map ever, including a “dense urban environment with full infantry and vehicular combat.”

While the beta seems to cut it close when it comes to launching only a few weeks before the release of the full game, Troedsson stresses that the studio will “still have time to implement changes based on your feedback. Some of these changes will happen in time for launch; some feedback will be addressed after launch in our extensive ongoing support of the game.”

Primarily, “the beta is first and foremost an opportunity for us to test the underlying infrastructure – server loads, matchmaking systems, server browsers, and game mode rotations are now going to be tested at high capacity for the first time in a public environment. The data that we will receive during the beta period will be of great value to us when configuring the game for launch.”

Expect server restarts and outages as the team monitors activity 24/7. Also, don’t expect the gameplay to be reminiscent of the final build. Troedsson wants you to know that “the beta version of the game is actually older than the version we are currently working on at the DICE office, since the beta had to be submitted for testing and certification before it can go live.”

DICE hopes to direct all feedback right here, on the Battlefield 4 Beta forums, so you might consider bookmarking that link for quick and easy access, should you run into any issues that need reporting.

Those gaming on the PC might want to know that a 64-bit operating system will be required to play the Battlefield 4 beta. However, the final build will run on both 64-bit and 32-bit OS’s. “As a studio,” Troedsson mentions, “we wanted to focus our efforts on testing the 64-bit version of the game. The full version of the game will also run on 32-bit Windows OS.”

On top of experimenting with server loads and connection quality, DICE will also be testing a few new anti-cheat measures. “We are happy to let you know that we have increased our protection against cheaters to not only use PunkBuster, but we will also work side by side with Gameblocks, who will provide us with their anti-cheat engine FairFight,” explains Troedsson. Interestingly, “you will notice information about the two anti-cheat measures on the server browser pages on Battlelog, and you will also potentially see messaging in the chat box in-game when a cheater is caught.”

Lastly, those participating in the beta will receive an exclusive dog tag for use in Battlefield 4, proving that you took part in the game’s beta testing this Fall.

New Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer Map Revealed – Stonehaven

Call of Duty: Ghosts is going medieval with a brand new multiplayer map that was recently revealed by team at Infinity Ward.

The map, Stonehaven, takes place inside an old European-inspired castle and is designed to give players with both a ranged and short-ranged combat style an avenue to play their way.

Infinity Ward community manager Tina Palacios gave Eurogamer the details.

“When we’re designing maps, we have to cater to a couple of different types of gameplay and players in their habits,” she said.”We didn’t want to alienate people who love to fight in close quarters, but we needed a big map. Then we looked to Europe.””We always want to add a variety regardless of what the story setting may be,” Palacios continued. “It’s evolved a lot over time. When we first made it we thought it would maybe be just a harbour with a bunch of ships on a sandy beach. Then it became what it is now. And we like the look much better than what we had in the past.”

Check out some screen grabs of Stonehaven below. You may recognize it from Call of Duty: Ghosts debut multiplayer trailer.

What do you guys think? It’s definitely an interesting choice of setting for a Call of Duty multiplayer map, but we dig it.

Black Ops 2 Apocalypse DLC Launches on PlayStation 3 and PC

Today, PlayStation 3 and PC owners receive the fourth and final DLC package for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Black Ops 2 Apocalypse is now available for $14.99 via the in-game store. Season pass owners can, of course, download the four new maps and new Zombies map at no additional cost.

Don’t forget, this weekend is Double Weapon XP. It starts tomorrow, September 26, at 10am PDT.

[youtube id=”sYWETSJ8EDQ” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Pod

A failed utopian community from the 70’s has left stacks of dilapidated residential pods nestled into an abandoned cliff side in Taiwan. Its residents long gone, the modernist compound now hosts frenetic combat as players must run atop the pods, as well as navigate their multi-tiered interiors for a strategic edge.

Frost

Fresh snow meets explosive gunpowder in this snow-capped European city, where the bridge over a frozen canal separates it into two sides, requiring players to employ multi-level traversal strategies to outsmart and ultimately outshoot their enemies.

Takeoff

Fans of “Stadium” from the original Call of Duty®: Black Ops First Strike DLC will find themselves at home on “Takeoff.” Marooned in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, this remote launch site is all about close-quarters combat, combining tight corners with open spaces for intense encounters.

Dig

An adaptation of the fan-favorite “Courtyard” from Call of Duty®: World at War, where two archeological dig sites in Afghanistan become the perfect playground for combatants eager for hectic, unceasing confrontations. Treyarch, has retained the spirit of “Courtyard” with two major chokepoints, a wide open layout and raised platforms, but has provided fans with a fresh take on the multitude of paths.

Origins

Apocalypse also features Origins, the most horrifying and imaginative Zombies experience to date. Players will be deployed to a Dieselpunk-stylized World War I-era France where they will encounter the return of the four original heroes – Tank, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen – from the very first Zombies map featured in Call of Duty: World at War, as well as hordes of undead that have overrun the French countryside’s trenches and fields, as well as the ruins of an ancient and mysterious location.

Battlefield 4 – Almost Four Hours of Uncut Paracel Storm Gameplay

In case you haven’t seen enough of the jaw-dropping Battlefield 4 footage that came out of this year’s Gamescom and from other EA community events, YouTube personality LevelCapGaming has done us the favor of uploading almost four hours of uncut Battlefield 4 gameplay on the map Paracel Storm in one single video.

It’s a great way to really take in the sights and sounds of Battlefield 4 without the commentary or editing. But before grabbing a cup of coffee and enjoying some unedited Battlefield 4 gameplay running a high-end gaming PC, take note of some of these interesting moments LevelCap indicated the description of his video:

Report – GTA Online ‘Currency Card’ Details and Prices

It appears that earlier rumors surrounding the introduction of micro-transactions, or ‘currency cards’, to Grand Theft Auto Online are being confirmed by play testers of GTA V’s multiplayer, launching this Tuesday, October 1.

According to reports, players will be able to purchase in-game money through a number of different currency packs using real life money. The real life prices reported so far are only in UK prices, but they are as follows:

  • $100,000 Red Shark Cash Card – £1.99
  • $200,000 Tiger Shark Cash Card – £3.49
  • $500,000 Bull Shark Cash Card – £6.99
  • $1,250,000 Great White Shark Cash Card – £13.49

Keep in mind that the value of objects in GTA Online vary from GTA V, meaning things like cars and houses will be cheaper online, while weapon and car mods might set you back a little more.

Still, no official announcement has been made by Rockstar, so we still await confirmation.

In related news, rumors stemming from items found within the game files suggest drug deals will also play a part in GTA Online.

Hey, as long as it keeps you from doing it in real life, right?

What are your thoughts on the introduction of currency cards in GTA Online? Will it enhance the gameplay, or take away some of the fun?

Thanks, Eurogamer.

GTA Online Launch Detailed, Updates To Be Free And More

With just six more days to go until GTA Online is released to the public free of charge for all Grand Theft Auto V owners, Rockstar has finally let the cat out of the bag and detailed all you need to know about the online service and its launch.

From day one, those enjoying GTA Online will be able to partake in plethora of activities with up to 16 people, including exploring GTA V’s massive open world, going to the movies, mountain biking, venturing into a shooting range and much more. Or, of course, you can also test the law by knocking a convenience store or taking down a rival gang and even robbing an armored truck to gain some reputation and some easy cash in the process.

Speaking of reputation and cash, reputation is simply earned from your devious actions and exploits in GTA Online. In turn, it will help you rank up and provide you with a better arsenal and criminal contacts. As for cash itself, it can be used to purchase property, cars, clothes and weapons.

Thankfully, unlike the single player mode of Grand Theft Auto V, cash is relatively easy to earn in GTA Online, as it is easily done by pulling heists or partaking in profitable activities. GTA Online will also offer a wide array of missions (more then 500, to be exact) and jobs that you can choose to go in a lone or with your fellow crew members and mercenaries. Or, you can choose the very easy way to earn cash by buying “cash cards”, which will offer 100,000 – 1,250,000 cash rewards.

Finally, and probably most importantly, Rockstar has given a quick overview about some of the future updates that you can be sure will be implemented in GTA Online in the upcoming weeks:

  • The Content Creator: The Content Creator will launch with tools to tailor and publish your own Deathmatches & Races.
  • The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons.
  • Capture the Flag: GTA Online’s take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator.
  • Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution – along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.

Best of all, these updates will be free of charge, according to Rockstar. The order in which these update will be implemented is subject to change. Additionally, expect news about even more content in the near future.

Valve Reveal Pt. 2 – Steam Machines Coming in 2014, Windows Client Support Will Remain

Earlier this week, Valve announced its open-source SteamOS. Today in the 2nd part of its reveal, Valve has revealed details for Steam Machines which will run SteamOS natively. The first wave of Steam Machines will actually be released later this year to a select 300 beta testers. The 300 who are selected must first complete the Eligibility Quest in order to be qualified to receive one of the first Steam Machines later this year.

So does SteamOS, in conjunction with Steam Machines, mean the end of the Steam client on other operating systems? Not quite. Valve has stated not only will Steam continue to be supported on Windows, but you can even remove SteamOS from a Steam Machine and install whichever OS you prefer. Unfortunately, no images were released showing the appearance or dimensions of any of the Steam Machines, but beta testers who will receive one aren’t under a NDA of any kind. Hopefully, they’ll be nice enough to post some images and videos.

Valve does promise that there will be multiple types of Steam Machines with a specific purpose such as low noise, top-of-the-line, and budget. All of the hardware in any of the Steam Machines will be user upgradeable. There might be some restrictions pertaining to the GPU’s with the latest rumor — from a supposed Valve employee — stating Steam Machines will only work with the past 3 generations of Nvidia cards and the past 2 generations of AMD cards. All future Nvidia and AMD cards will be supported as well.

Any title with native SteamOS support, which is currently in the 100’s, will work fine for Steam Machine owners. Games without native SteamOS support (i.e. games built for other OS’s such as Windows, OS X, or Linux) will require a PC in order to stream the game over a home network to the Steam Machine.

Visit Valve’s teaser page for more information on today’s announcement. Check back in with MP1st on Friday for Valve’s final announcement.

Nosgoth Announcement Trailer – First Gameplay Footage and Closed Beta Details

After months of rumors and speculation, developer Psyonix and publisher Square-Enix are ready to pull back the curtains on their free-to-play third-person PvP title, Nosgoth.

[youtube id=”VbpMhMfnTuQ” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Nosgoth’s combat focus is on ranged weaponry (Humans) vs. melee attacks (Vampires).  Humans will have access to a variety of bows, guns, and even a flamethrower to outfit their characters. Vampires will be able to use flight and leaping abilities to help get in close range for the kill. To counter the Vampires supernatural abilities, Humans will have access to equipment such as bombs and traps to keep Vampires from closing in.

A live community Q&A will be conducted on the Nosgoth Twitch channel on September 30th at 7AM Pacific / 10AM Eastern. More information can be found here.

While it is strange to see the next entry in the Legacy of Kain series to be a multiplayer only title, I must admit it looks bloody fun. Interested in participating in the closed beta? Registration and the specs required to play it can be found at the Nosgoth blog.
