Borderlands 2 – Mister Torgue’s Campaign Of Carnage DLC Review

Are you the baddest of all bad-asses on the planet of Pandora? Are you looking for new challenges that feed your appetite for massive explosions, car racing, new loot, bar fights, a loud and obnoxiously funny character who seems to have tourettes and reminds you of 80’s wrestlers and did I mention EXPLOSIONS?

If the above excites you, then get ready to drink some beer and kick some rear as Gearbox Software has just released their second expansion DLC for Borderlands 2 titled Mister Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage. This new adventure will have you proving how much of a bad-ass you really are thanks to Mister Torgue’s tournament centered around finding the biggest and baddest bad-ass to open up a new vault that has been found on Pandora which will only open when the baddest of all the bad-asses spills the blood of a coward on it.

Upon entering the Badass Crater of Badassitude, which is where you will start this new adventure, you will be greeted with a short cinematic introduction like in the previous DLCs. It will give you a very brief background on what this DLC is all about thanks to Patricia Tannis and Mister Torgue, who happens to own the Torgue Corporation. Mister Torgue can only be described as an 80’s wrestler who loves violence, explosions and has a very limited vocabulary, most of which is censored. He greets you by randomly interrupting Tannis with his loud and obnoxiously funny dialogue to advertise his new tournament in order to get this new vault open, thus officially starting your climb to the top of the ladder to be Pandora’s number one bad-ass.

[youtube id=”uWdeDm4qfd8″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

As eccentric as Mister Torgue is, you will be glad to know that his ‘Campaign Of Carnage’ follow’s his lead. From the very start, it’s filled with you kicking rear and taking names at the expense of the local bandits that surrounds Torgue’s behemoth arena, all while Mister Torgue is Echo’ing some sweet guitar riffs to you. You will also be accompanied by probably the best dialogue the game has had to offer so far thanks to Mister Torgue’s character and his interactions with fan-favorite characters such as Moxxi. One memorable moment has Mister Torgue getting frustrated with Moxxi’s constant innuendos, at which point he blurts out, “today we have Flyboy vs the Vault Hunter. B***JOBS” In his attempt to one-up her, which leads to an awkward yet hilarious moment. Many moments like these can be found throughout the DLC.

Thankfully, for those who love a change in scenery, you will be happy to know that the majority of this explosive DLC and its quests takes place outside of the main arena as your constantly chasing down the bad-ass who’s ahead of you in the leader board in their own special locale. This eventually leads you to the ultimate bad-ass showdown in Torgue’s Arena between you and Piston who serves as this DLC’s main antagonist.

A brief view of Torgue’s Arena and it’s surrounding area

If you happened to be a fan of the various side quests that are featured in Mister Torgue’s Campaign Of Carnage, you will be happy to know that the bar bawls, races and a few other quests can be repeated as many times to your heart’s content. This DLC should give you tons to do after you have completed the main story quest, which is actually lengthy this time around and features 14 chapters, filled with big bosses, such as the Baddassarus Rex and Piston’s Blimp.

Badassaurus Rex, one of the many bosses in Mister Torgue’s Campaign Of Carnage

Speaking of quests, outside from the usual fetch-and-go missions, you will never find yourself bored out of your mind during a quest as Gearbox did a good job making sure this DLC was filled with action when not participating in a bar brawl or any of Mister Torgue’s antics, such as eliminating game critics for bad mouthing his favorite games. Also, you’re always under constant attacks by either Torgue robots, bikers or Pandora’s wildlife. Luckily, each has the chance to drop the newest currency, Torgue Tokens.

Torgue Tokens, which can drop from any enemy and be given as a rewarded from quests, allow you to buy items from the new Torgue vending machine. This vending machine only sells Torgue weaponry and will always contain a legendary item as it’s weapon of the day for the price of 613 tokens. But that’s not all, as this unique vending machine, which can be found throughout the dfferent locales featured in the DLC, also contains the head skins that can be bought for the small price of 35 Torgue Tokens each.

Maya in her Pretty in Punk head skin.

Unfortunately, as great as this DLC is, it suffers from some minor issues aside from some bland locales, such as re-hashing enemy models and giving them a new paint job. For example, one of the ‘new’ bosses actually happens to look just like Scooter’s sister, Ellie, who appears to have stayed in the tanning booth for way too long and now rocks a simple biker helmet. Even though the Torgue vending machine has a Legendary item all the time, it’s sadly capped at level 48. Just incase you’re wondering, Mister Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage doesn’t increase the level cap either, which leaves some things to be desired. They also re-use the same boss in the DLC as a raid boss who happens to train non-stop to take you on again in the story.

Over all, this DLC delivers on its promise. It’s leaps better then Captain Scarlett’s And Her Pirate’s Booty which was Borderlands 2 first DLC. So, if your looking for a well-written and pretty lengthy add-on that is sure to test how bad-ass you are with massive arenas and free-for-all bar brawls that also features memorable characters and, of course, many explosions, look no further. Mister Torgue and his Campaign Of Carnage has everything you need and then some.

4.5 / 5

With that, I’ll leave it to Mister Torgue himself to deliver the rating for this DLC: “Mister Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage gets four and a half bad-ass explosions out of five!”

If you’re dying to know the secrets, look no further. Check out the gallery below of all hardpint locations including order of appearance on each of Black Ops 2’s multiplayer maps.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath – DICE Lead Designer Details All Four Maps

Learn more about all four maps included in Battlefield 3’s upcoming multiplayer expansion, Aftermath, set in the wake of a devastating earthquake in Tehran.

DICE Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus recently sat down with PWNED to detail all four Aftermath maps: Markaz Monolith, Epicenter, Talah Market and Azadi Palace.

Here’s what he had to say.

Markaz Monolith

Markaz Monolith

Markaz Monolith, a former financial district now torn to pieces by the earthquake, features a tall building with collapsed insides that will act as a central hot spot and include tons of vertical gameplay. Surrounding this building is also a large city that players will be able to explore and fight battles in.

Epicenter

Epicenter

In Epicenter, which was recently featured in this flythrough video, you’ll witness some of the earthquakes most devastating effects. Expect open areas on the destroyed highways and crossroads as well as some fighting in the alleyways between buildings.

Talah Market

Talah Market

Talah Market takes place a little further out from the city and features a mix of old and new architecture. Here, you’ll be fighting in more of a village setting, rather than in an urban environment filled with tall buildings.

Azadi Palace

Azadi Palace

Azadi Palace revolves around a large urban landscape that also features a huge parliament building which has also fallen victim to the earthquake’s effects. Expect a mix of street fighting and indoor fighting.

You can view Fegraeus’ full interview with PWNED right here, including footage of all four maps.

Star Citizen Fundraiser Ends in Great Success, Earns Over $6 Million

Fundraising for Robters Space Industries’ Star Citizen has come to a close, but not without a most triumphant ending.

Becoming the most successful crowd-funded video game project to date, Star Citizen, it’s creator Chris Roberts, and the rest of the team have raised over $6 million to invest towards this epic space MMO flight simulator project. That’s three times their original goal of $2 million. Apparently, gamers want an epic space sim!

“Star Citizen will be released because of your dedication and your willingness to put your money where our mouths are. Our gratitude is immeasurable; we owe you our livelihoods and will not soon forget it,” Roberts writes in a recent update.

Upon reaching it’s final stretch goal of $6 million, Roberts has promised the following features at launch:

  • Star Citizen will improve upon Privateer, with 100 star systems to explore on launch.
  • Bengal carrier unlocked for persistent universe play.
  • Full orchestral music for Star Citizen/Squadron 42 sound track.
  • The first Squadron 42 mission disk, Behind Enemy Lines, available for free to all backers upon release.
  • A 16-mission campaign in the style of The Secret Missions.

As for what’s next, Robert’s writes, “updates and features will continue, returning to a regular schedule in the next few days. The team needs a few days to collect ourselves and reform before jumping into the immense task ahead (after the last month, our husbands, wives, children and yes, pets, miss us!) We will also be launching new sections which have been in the works for some time: the Galactapedia will tell you more about the Star Citizen world, Engineering will introduce you to game mechanics that are being planned and Holovids will offer you video footage from the game as it takes shape.”

You can check out the newly redesigned Roberts Space Industries website to learn more and reserve your ship right here.

Expect Star Citizen on the PC in late 2014.

[Update] Report – Nuketown 2025 Removed From Black Ops 2 Public Playlists

Update 2

Treyarch has added the “Chaos Moshpit” bonus playlist, exclusive to owners of Nuketown 2025: “Small maps with a variety of game modes. Pure Chaos. Includes Nuketown 2025!” So far, the maps we’ve run into in this playlist are:

    • Slums
    • Hijacked
    • Standoff
    • Express
    • Cargo
    • Nuketown
    • Carrier

PC users can expect the update sometime Tuesday, November 20.

Update 1

Treyarch Game Design Director recently revealed that, due to the reaction of Nuketown 2025’s removal, the map will be included in a “small maps moshpit” public playlist so that users will have access to it without completely fragmenting the matchmaking.

He said, “You killed the messenger, but I still fight for the users. RT to #bringbackNuketown2025 and we will add to a small maps moshpit.” He also mentioned, however, that adding it into regular playlists would be impossible, for it would “fragment matchmaking really poorly at this stage.” Though, “It will be back as a single map playlist for Double XP weekends or other events. It’s how we’ve always done it.”

Original Story

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s first double XP weekend having come to a close, fans are saddened to learn that the Nuketown 2025 24/7 playlist went along with it and with no explanation.

Those who purchased first-print copes of Black Ops 2 (which was almost everyone considering the amount of copies Activision sold in the first 24 hours) were given codes to download Nuketown 2025, a re-imagining of the classic Black Ops multiplayer map. Along with it came a 24/7 playlist featuring a mix of game modes solely on Nuketown 2025.

Beginning last Friday, November 16, Black Ops 2’s first double XP was initiated for those who had access to the map. Today marked the end of that double XP weekend, and unexpectedly, it also meant the end for the popular Nuketown 2025 playlist.

Treyarch Game Design Director recently Tweeted, “Double XP weekend is officialy over. That means Nuketown 2025 / 24-7 is as well. I know. RIGHT? Don’t kill the messenger.” He added, “Nuketown 2025 / 24-7 will be back for special events. You can always play it with your friends in Custom Games.”

Many are viewing the map’s removal as false advertising. First, Nuketown 2025 was originally promised as a pre-order bonus (for first-print copy owners, in reality). With the removal of the playlist, Nuketown 2025 can now only be played in private matches, as it does not show up in the regular rotation of public matches. Second, the description of the playlist read, “All Nuketown 2025, all the time. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. We never close.”

What are your thoughts?

Thanks to everyone for all the email and Tweets.

Latest Modern Warfare 3 PC Update Separates Cheaters From Legitimate Players

Modern Warfare 3 may not be completely rid of cheaters on the PC, but Infinity Ward is taking steps to separate those who cheat from those who play legitimately.

In the latest MW3 PC patch 1.19, the notes read, “added security measures to prevent our legitimate players from matching with players that are known cheaters and hackers.” This should come as good news to those still playing the title on the PC.

Within the first 24 hours of release, players have already reported the presence of aim bots in the PC version of Black Ops 2. This goes to show that there are those out there dedicated to hacking Call of Duty titles as quickly as possible. If it can’t be ultimately stopped, perhaps Treyarch could implement a similar system, if they haven’t done so already.

Rockstar Games did something similar with Max Payne 3 by creating a “cheater pool” that confines all known cheaters to one playlist, separating them from legitimate players.

Are you still playing Modern Warfare 3 on the PC? What would you say is the current state of hacking and cheating?

PC and Wii U Version of Grand Theft Auto V Only “Up For Consideration,” According to Rockstar

Rockstar Games discusses the state of Grand Theft Auto V on the PC and other platforms like the Wii U.

As of right now, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V is expected to drop Spring 2013 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 with the PC and Wii U versions only “up for consideration,” Rockstar’s Dan Houser recently told IGN.

“That’s all I can give you,” he continued. “The main thing is we are not… we are a third-party publisher. We’re not Nintendo, we’re not Sony, we’re not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there’s the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market.”

According to Rockstar, their developers are perfectly comfortable with the current generation of hardware.

“Some other people talk about the limitations of the [current] hardware. We don’t feel there are that many limitations. We feel we can do some very impressive stuff and do it for a large audience. This felt like the way… There’ll be a much larger audience on PS3 than there will be on PS4.” He added, “we didn’t sit there saying, ‘We’d like to do this in the game, but we can’t.’ There’s plenty of power in these machines.”

Obviously, this is a bit concerning for PC and Wii U gamers hoping to be able to experience Rockstar’s latest epic on their platform. Are you one of them? What do you think?

Thanks, PCGamer.

In other GTA V news, Examiner reports neither the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 version will be considered the “lead platform.” Each version is being developed simultaneously.

Sledgehammer Games Prepares for the Next Call of Duty Title on the Xbox 360 and PS3

It’s time to start looking forward to the next Call of Duty title! Isn’t it?

While we’re still wrapping our heads around the recently released Black Ops 2, reports are beginning to surface of Activision’s next Call of Duty project.

NowGamer reports that Sledgehammer Games, who recently worked on last year’s Modern Warfare 3, has posted a job listing on Gamasutra for Senior Environment Artist to work on the next Call of Duty title for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The descriptor reads, “We are actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty development team. If you are passionate and driven to do your best work, and have a desire to work on the most successful FPS franchise in the history of video games, please apply online.”

Additionally, those applying “will be expected to create single player and multi-player levels under the direction of the art director and the creative director,” and “will insure that the level works on all relevant platforms, Xbox 360, PS3.

Recent rumors pointed to another Modern Warfare 4 title in development, though they were quickly shot down by Infinity Ward, lead developers of last year’s Modern Warfare 3.

Does this confirm Call of Duty’s next shebang to once again appear exclusively on this generation of hardware? What do you think?

Thanks, VG24/7!

Upcoming Black Ops 2 Patch Will Fix Theater Mode Error, Escort Drone and Dragonfire Glitches and More

We’ve got a few hints at what sort of fixes we can look forward to in the next Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 update.

Responding to concerns on Twitter, Game Design Director David Vonderhaar lets fans know what’s been fixed in the next update, and what is still being looked into.

First, Vonderhaar mentioned the patch “should be Tuesday,” though it’s still uncertain. Luckily, however, it will fix a few of these errors and glitches a number of player have been experiencing.

  • Theater Mode “UI error 226117.”
  • Escort Drone glitch (Attacks owner while under the map.)
  • Dragonfire glitch. (Won’t deploy.)
  • FHJ-18 AA not levelling up properly. (EDIT: Already fixed in previous update.)

What is still in research, however, is the bouncing Care Package glitch. A number of players who’ve called in a Care Package Scorestreak have reported it immediately bouncing off the map when dropped to the ground. As is stands, it sounds like a fix for this particular error may not make in into the next patch.

This, of course, is not the full list of patch notes. We hope to have it as soon as it’s available, however, so keep your sights on MP1st!

Black Ops 2 – Game Design Director Hints at Possible “War-Like” Game Mode

Treyarch Game Design Director hints at some possible new game modes making their way to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, including something similar to the old fan-favorite, “War.”

In a recent Reddit “Ask-Me-Anything” along with Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows, David Vonderhaar was asked if Treyarch would ever consider bringing back the game mode “War” to Black Ops 2, originally introduced in Call of Duty 3 and later, World at War.

In War, two teams would fight to capture up to five different territories set up in a straight line across a map. Your job was to push back enemy forces, fighting for and capturing their territory until all territories have been claimed, thus winning the match. Treyarch also introduced a “momentum” system that allowed teams to capture flags faster by getting kills.

In response to the request of it’s return, Vonderhaar said, “no plans to bring back War at this time.” Though, he added, “never say never. Here is a hint. We have a very War like mode, that isn’t exactly War, that I would love to tell you about, but I can’t because … dragged away by PR.”

However, according to Vonderhaar, there is more than one game mode that the team is currently testing out. When asked if “All or Nothing” would ever make a return in Black Ops 2, Vonderhaar answered, though he would “absolutely” like to see something like that added in, “we haven’t released any details, or even decided which [game modes], nor could I give you a count or time, we have several games modes we play in development.” He added, “we have some [of] our own new game modes we are eager to try out.”

That brings us to ask the question, what game modes would you like to see added to Black Ops 2 in the future? Is “War” or “All or Nothing” on your list?
