Xbox Voice Reporting Feature Launches This Week for Xbox Insiders

A new reporting system will soon be available for players subject to harassment online through Xbox. The new Xbox voice reporting feature will allow players to report abusive players during their games, with the ability to “capture now, report later,” letting the player to continue with their game unaffected. The feature will be available this week for Xbox Insiders.

The reporting system will allow full control over what you capture and report. You can capture the last 60 seconds of your voice chat, much like how it would work when capturing a game video, but unlike game captures, it won’t show up among your gameplay clips. You can’t download or share the footage, either, so the footage you record via the reporting system will be for the reporting system only. Xbox won’t save or upload any clips until you record and report personally, so you don’t have to worry about them monitoring you while you play. Once recorded, you can keep the clip for 24 hours before you choose to report it. If not sent within 24 hours, you’ll get a reminder, and if you don’t report at that point, the clip will be deleted automatically.

Currently, it’s set to launch in select English-speaking countries: US, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. While this doesn’t include many European or Asian countries, it does reach much of Xbox’s player base.

Canceled Shantae GBA Game Returns as “Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution” in Early 2024

Good news for fans of the Shantae platformer series — developer WayForward’s canceled Shantae Game Boy Advance (GBA) game will finally be released in early 2024, and on the GBA, no less! Titled “Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution,” the game will be available in a physical, GBA-compatible game cartridge.

A new video by WayForward was released which delved into the history of Shantae Advance and why it was cancelled back in the early 2000’s:

According to Matt Bozon, creative director at WayForward, Shantae Advance was cancelled for multiple reasons. The “retail-driven” market at the time restricted creative freedom, and with sales for Shantae not doing well during Shantae Advance’s development, the project was shelved. Now given the opportunity to work on it again, it seems WayForward is pulling out all the stops for Shantae Advance, with Game Link Cable support for up to four players using a single copy of the game.

Here’s an official description of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution via press release:

Filling in the gaps between the original Shantae (2002) and Shantae: Risky’s Revenge (2010), Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution sees Shantae protecting Sequin Land from a twisted new plot orchestrated by her nemesis, the pirate Risky Boots. Using a secret subterranean device, Risky is able to rotate and rearrange the continent, plunging it into chaos and giving her more coastal cities to plunder. Fortunately, by harnessing this technology and the knowledge of the Relic Hunters, players will be able to turn the tables on Risky, giving Shantae new paths through environments and a chance to thwart the villain’s scheme.

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be published by Limited Run Games with an estimated early 2024 release date. More updates and additional info, such as the preorder window, will follow in the future, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Sony to Spend $2.1 Billion in Game Research and Development for FY 2024, Looks to Enter “Extended Reality” Market

Sony will be investing a whopping 300 billion yen (around $2.1 billion) into research and development for its games business, according to a report via Nikkei. The budget will be effective for the company’s next fiscal year, which ends on March 2024.

The 300-billion-yen budget is a few ten billions higher than last year’s R&D spending on games, which totaled at 271.1 billion yen, and more than double the company’s 2020 budget of 144.5 billion yen. This is likely due to Sony’s recent success in its gaming ventures, with the company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) at around 337 billion yen, 60% higher than its value five years prior.

Much of this year’s budget will apparently be spent on live service titles, a move that Sony seems to be keen on following through, with the company planning on releasing various live service titles by 2026. To support the company’s foray into live service titles, Sony acquired Bungie last year, and given how well the Destiny franchise is doing, the company may want to leverage the studio’s knowhow on live service models to expand its own games catalogue.

Interestingly, Sony is also looking to invest in “extended reality,” or experiences which blend physical and digital spaces. With Apple’s recent Vision Pro announcement, and its promise of delivering even more immersive experiences than ever before, Sony may be looking to pioneer one of the newer fields of gaming.

As Microsoft inches its way into closing its Activision-Blizzard deal, Sony continues to invest in its gaming division in order to keep up with growing competition.

Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone UAV Bug Finally Acknowledged by Devs Alongside Other S4 Reloaded Patch Issues

Earlier today, Infinity Ward released the big Season 4 Reloaded patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone that ushered in new content, alongside a host of gameplay fixes and improvements. For those who were hoping that the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone UAV bug has been fixed, that sadly, isn’t the case.

However, there is a small ray of sunshine amid the dark clouds, as Infinity Ward has finally acknowledged the issue. This was confirmed to be something the devs are looking into via the game’s official Trello board along with other issues that surfaced with the S4 patch.

Investigating:

  • We’re aware of an issue where the UAV Killstreak can sometimes behave like an Advanced UAV, showing Player dot movement.
  • We’re investigating an issue where selecting ‘View Map’ in the Battle Pass Map opens the Firing Range for some Players.
  • We’re investigating reports of reduced performance for some PC Players.

Alongside the items listed above, Infinity Ward has announced that the “Play Again” feature has been disabled in Rotation Resurgence while an issue is being investigated.

The studio also announced that Champion’s Quest is not enabled for Vondel Battle Royale with Season 4 Reloaded, and it will instead be released in Season 5.

There have also been released today (via server-side patches) that reduces the Temp V drop rate across all battle royale modes and Plunder, as well as a fix for player momentum when dropping out of a plane during the initial match infil.

I have to admit, the fact that the dreaded Modern Warfare 2 UAV bug hasn’t been fixed in today’s patch is kind of worrying. I mean, this is a game-breaking bug that necessitates the need for every class loadout to use the Ghost perk.

For those unaware of the bug, it essentially makes your standard UAV killstreak act like an Advanced UAV since it constantly shows where you are in the map. This means that in most multiplayer matches, the first team to get a UAV will win since that team will be able to pinpoint each and every location of the opposing team (which means someone else on the same team will get a UAV, and so on).

Hopefully a new patch (be it server-side or client-side) is released soon to fix it.

New Alan Wake 2 Gameplay Features Saga Anderson’s “Mind Place”

A bit of interesting gameplay for upcoming survival horror sequel Alan Wake 2 has just been released. The new Alan Wake 2 gameplay features co-protagonist Saga Anderson’s “Mind Place,” a mental construct that allows players to sort through clues that she comes across throughout the story.

Watch the clip here:

The Mind Place serves as a sort of hub for players to retreat to while playing as Saga Anderson, giving them all the time they need to piece together clues that they come across throughout the story. A profiling desk, list of manuscripts, and a case board are all accessible in the Mind Place.

Here’s the official description of Alan Wake 2 via the Epic Games Store:

A string of ritualistic murders threatens Bright Falls, a small-town community surrounded by Pacific Northwest wilderness. Saga Anderson, an accomplished FBI agent with a reputation for solving impossible cases arrives to investigate the murders. Anderson’s case spirals into a nightmare when she discovers pages of a horror story that starts to come true around her.

Light is their weapon—and their safe haven — against the darkness they face. Guerrilla Games Has 16 “Plans” for Horizon Franchise in the Works; Multiplayer Game Officially Confirmed

It looks like Guerrilla Games’ Horizon franchise is far from over, according to a recent talk by studio devs at Develop:Brighton. Director Jan-Bart van Beek claimed that the studio had 16 plans “clicking on,” including four new titles to look forward to in the future, claiming that the studio is “going to be continuing it for a very long while.”

These “plans” likely have to do with Guerrilla Games’ upcoming projects relating to the Horizon series, including a solo adventure for Aloy as well as a possible Zero Dawn remake that we reported on last year. Van Beek had also confirmed earlier this year that Aloy’s adventure would continue in the Horizon series, though it’s possible that she won’t always take center stage, much like with the recent VR title, Horizon Call of the Mountain.

The dev talk also finally gave us an official confirmation from the devs themselves that the Horizon multiplayer game does, in fact, exist. Previously, a gameplay leak from the project had been posted online, and a job listing description hinted at the game’s development. “As people probably already know, we’re also going to be working on a multiplayer game,” van Beek stated. He also revealed that development for the project was a “massive shift for the studio, almost on the same level as doing the first Horizon.”

Though it may be a while before we get any official news on upcoming Horizon-themed projects, fans of the franchise can rest assured that Guerrilla Games are far from over with exploring the series.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Gameplay Debuts, Closed Beta Announced, But Game Delayed to 2024

As promised by publisher Nacon, KT Racing has today debuted our first look at Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown gameplay! The footage was shown as part of the TDU Connect event that aired today where it was also revealed that the game’s release has been pushed back to sometime in 2024.

Alongside the gameplay debut, Nacon also announced that a closed beta is taking place this July 24 and it will last for three days.

Check out a rundown of the TDU Connect presentation straight from Nacon:

A grand tour
During the show, the guests explored the different faces and diversity of Hong Kong Island, which has been recreated at 1:1 scale. The tour started at the Solar Hotel, created by the KT Racing team. Built on the site of Victoria Park in the heart of Causeway Bay, the Solar Hotel is a 120-floor, 540-metre-high architectural marvel with a unique and futuristic design. After the guided tour of a suite, Alain Jarniou continued exploring the inside of the building with a stop at the hotel lobby. Designed as a social hub, this majestic hall is primarily a place to meet, chat and gather with other players. In the large open space, the best drivers are showcased and any activities available are displayed. It’s the perfect place to make friends or stoke rivalries! To further enhance the social experience, in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown players can control their customized avatar as soon as they get out of their car. Available in enclosed areas, such as the Solar Hotel, this feature offers a wide variety of interactions and gameplay possibilities.

Are you a Street or Sharp?
The gameplay session also revealed other important locations in the game: the headquarters of the Sharps and the Streets. Located at different ends of the island, they reflect the two clans’ lifestyles and opposing views on luxury. The Streets chose to take over a former night club where the dark ambiance is offset by neon lights; while the Sharps opted to revitalize the restaurant of a luxury hotel to give it the calm and dignified atmosphere that characterizes their clan.
Each of the guests, who are all competitors at heart, joined their favourite clan to take part in a frantic race, in which they tried to cross the finish line in first place and bring glory to their clan.

In a 1:1 scale recreation of Hong Kong Island, take part in an extraordinary competition, the Solar Crown, organized by the influential Radiant.  At the wheel of exceptional racing cars from prestigious brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Dodge, Apollo and many more, you are free to explore the island’s varied environments, or take part in the most popular races on Hong Kong Island. Beyond the cars in your stable, a reflection of your inspiration and reward for all your hard work, you can customize your lifestyle any way you see fit: choose your clan, Sharp or Street, and dress to impress, stand out from the crowd and defend your clan. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown retains the  series’ original DNA, while bringing a modern updated vision of the multiplayer racing game to offer players luxury, exceptional cars and competition, reflecting the life that they’ve always dreamt of.

While there’s no release date yet, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is confirmed to be racing out for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

    • The battle between Seraphs and anti-aircraft guns above the beach is now visible.
    • The Pelican and Spirit that drop off Marine and Covenant reinforcements within the base now appear consistently.

  • Players are less likely to experience a crash when entering the passenger seat of any vehicle during a Multiplayer or Firefight match on a modded map.
  • In Headhunter matches, obtaining a tenth skull then returning it to the designated deposit zone now consistently awards the Skullamanjaro medal.

  • The name of the selected Firefight variant now consistently displays when players are selecting a loadout at the start of a Custom Firefight match.
  • Players who have run out of lives are now less likely to spawn outside the map after the remaining players have finished clearing the current wave of enemies.

That’s about it. If there’s a new patch released, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.
