Battlefield 6 Season 1 Patch’s Fixes and Improvements Weren’t Applied All at Once

When DICE released the Season 1 update to Battlefield 6 players, it mentioned a ton of bug fixes and improvements. If you played the game after applying the update, but felt like some bugs still persisted, it’s not just you.

It appears that DICE forgot to inform players that the Season 1 patch wasn’t applied all at once, which means some bugs and issues still persist, although they will be addressed during the season.

Battlefield 6 Season 1 Improvements and Bug Fixes Spread Out Over Multiple Patches Confirmed

DICE Principal Game Designer Florian Le Bihan confirmed that not all of the listed bug fixes were included in the update gamers downloaded on October 28, stating, “The bug fixes are not in this update, might not have been clear from some of the previous comms but they are coming into a later update during Season 1.”

Florian’s confirmation was a response to a content creator’s complaint that the ADS (aim down sight) penalties remain unchanged, despite the spread (bloom) bug after sprinting still being unresolved, despite being mentioned as fixed in the patch notes.

While it’s commendable that DICE is addressing a multitude of issues in the game’s first season, someone at the studio should have communicated this, so people are aware that not everything listed in the patch notes won’t be fixed in one go, no? Even if I’m not a game developer, that seems like a logical approach to communication and the like.

So if you’re experiencing more issues that were supposed to be fixed in the Season 1 patch but weren’t, expect it to be fixed during Season 1 with another update. One bug I still experience regularly is the “trampoline” issue, where your character gains an excessive amount of verticality when mantling objects. Unfortunately, this not only reveals your position but also makes you a perfect target.

As for when this new update is set to be released, DICE hasn’t said yet, but we do know that there is a mid-season update headed out on November 18, which brings another new map, a new mode, and even the return of Battle Pickups.

In other Battlefield 6 news, the developers silently removed the Wicked Grin neon blue infantry skin from the game after community backlash.

Dying Light 2 Receives Second Update This Week as Version 1.082/1.82

After yesterday’s launch of the Halloween event for Dying Light 2, Techland has released a follow-up patch for the game today. Console gamers will see the download as Dying Light 2 upate 1.82/1.082 (complete version 1.082.000).

Given yesterday’s event start, don’t expect anything from this patch outside of fixes.

Dying Light 2 New Update on October 31 Released for Version 1.82/1.082

There have been no patch notes released for today’s update, but Techland did make an announcement regarding the Halloween Showdown event.

Techland announced. “We have been blown away by your engagement in the Halloween Showdown! The streets of Villedor are littered with dead Pumpkintiles!” Continuing, “To recognize your commitment to the hunt, we’re adding an extra goal: if both characters reach the threshold of 45 million candies, both charms will be delivered to everyone who participated in the event!”

Not only that, but there was also a technical issues with yesterday’s update, but this is more for PC players.

“Dying Light 2 Technical Notice: Yesterday’s update introduced an issue with save files on the Epic Games platform. Since then we’ve released a hotfix that addresses it. We apologize for the inconvenience,” says Techland.

Adding to it, the devs continued, “Please note: If you are prompted by the Epic Games Launcher to either use ‘upload to cloud’ (from local file) or ‘download to machine’ (from cloud storage), we recommend choosing ‘download to machine’ (from cloud storage). Due to technical reasons, this latest hotfix must also be downloaded on Steam.”

Another game that recently got updated twice this week is ARC Raiders. Embark released the game’s first patch download today, and released a follow-up hours later.

The Outer Worlds 2 New Update for October 31 Applies Patch 1.004.001

Following the release of hotfix 1.0.4.0 a few days ago for The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian Entertainment has released another one this week, which once again brings fixes to the RPG.

Console players will see the download as The Outer Worlds 2 update 1.004.001, and this should be a relatively small download on consoles and PC.

While this is another hotfix, it includes a number of fixes that are a bit spoiler-ish in nature, so proceed with caution.

The Outer Worlds 2 New Update Applies Quest Fixes and More via Version 1.004.001/1.0.4.1

Critical Fixes

  • Fixing saves crashing on load 100% of the time if bad data gets into the favorited item data.
  • Fixed several rare crashes.
  • (PS5 only) Fixed crash when game was started with only PlayGo chunk installed, and user progressed past Horizon point station.
  • Plug Puller Perk no longer prevents encounters from advancing.
  • Players will no longer have their conversation history reset at unexpected times during gameplay.
  • Cleared out portions of the map will no longer be reset.

Quests/Progression: (Contains Spoilers)

  • Players who encountered problems with Inez after meeting her at the Ministry of Accuracy should be able to progress her argument with Milverstreet now, even if they could not before.
  • Inez will now reliably play her intro dialogue lines when first encountering her in the Ministry of Accuracy, instead of on rare occasions playing her standard companion conversation.
  • (SPOILER) Aza now properly starts a dialog and quest outside of the N-Ray Range if the player already killed all the cultists at the N-Ray range.
  • OA Troopers no longer appear in the ACHQ at an unintended time. Loading a save from before fighting these units will allow players to progress the quest as intended.
    • Note: Players must load a save before the bug occurred. We are investigating solutions for a retroactive fix.
  • (SPOILER) “Better than Nature” quest now correctly guides the player to Inez if Fairfield is destroyed.
  • Otto’s Lock in Free Market Station is now working as intended and can be solved.

Audio/Visual

  • PS5 Pro now uses TSR for upscaling to address blurry grass on Paradise Island and unexpected lighting noise across the game.
  • Double jump boots no longer play audio at double volume.
  • (Xbox only) Fixed an issue that can cause some blue noise on the edges of grass and computer monitors.

Once Obisidian releases another patch, expect it here on MP1st. There are still a good number of issues being tracked, so don’t be surprised if we get another update soon.

After Community Backlash, Devs Silently Remove Battlefield 6’s Neon Blue Infantry Skin

Just a week before Season 1 of Battlefield 6 kicked off, one of the skins that was set to be released during the season’s launch was outed, which caused outrage within the community

While it doesn’t take a lot ot rile up the Battlefield fan base, this one did have a point, since it was a slippery slope that could lead to wacky infantry skins seeping their way into the shooter.

It appears that the developers at DICE had a sudden change of heart, as the skin is no longer available.

Battlefield 6’s Neon Blue Skin Disappears Without Any Announcement

If you need reference what the skin looks like, check out the image we’ve shared previously.

The item, which is  called the “Wicked Grin” skin, has been removed from the game for now. You cannot buy it via in the in-game store or earn it as a Battle Pass reward. Publisher Electronic Arts or any developer from Battlefield Studios has not commented on it either.

Chances are, the developers will retool it to make the colors more subdued, or perhaps just remove it entirely. The game has enough new cosmetics that I doubt this will be missed. However, if you think about it, there’s only so much you can do with grey, black, and other dark colors when it comes to patterns.

Speaking of Season 1 cosmetics, you can earn some for free right now via the new season’s Twitch Drops.

Given that the developers have addressed this issue somewhat, we hope the issue with bots will be handled at some point in the future as well. Would you want to see that particular infantry skin return with a more muted color or do you want it scrapped entirely? Sound off in the comments.

Don’t forget, Battlefield RedSec is out now, and any cosmetics you earn for Battlefield 6 can be used in the battle royale mode too.

ARC Raiders Rolls Out Second Update of the Day as Version 1.000.006

Mere hours after releasing the first client-side patch for ARC Raiders, Embark Studios has released another one today, which players will see as version 1.000.006.

Given the sudden rollout, don’t expect anything major from this outside of emergency fixes.

Embark has seemingly encountered issues with the previous client update, necessitating this second rollout, with the PS5 version being flagged for animation issues.

ARC Raiders Receives Second Update of the Day as Version 1.000.006

Embark has issued a statement regarding today’s patch and this follow-up update as well.

According to the studio, “In order to address the animation issues that some of you were experiencing, we have to roll back a few of the changes that we introduced in the Hotfix earlier. We will include the fixes again in a future update!”

Here are the four features that need to be rolled back:

  • Fixed an issue where the Augment Effects didn’t work.
  • Fixed a bug where the Augment Effect wouldn’t work when equipping another quick use item.
  • Added charge progress hint for integrated shield repair.
  • Fixed a bug where the health regen augment skills wouldn’t work if triggered while DBNO.

Not only that, but if you’ve experienced animation issues on the PS5 version after installing today’s patch, this is something Embark is aware of as well, with the devs stating, “We are aware that some of you on PlayStation 5 are experiencing issues with animations. The team is looking into it.”

On the official ARC Raiders X (formerly Twitter) account, the studio mentioned, “Thank you all for flagging the animation issues that were introduced in the Hotfix, we’ve rolled back a few of the changes, please keep an eye out for another quick patch!”

Hopefully, this patch resolves the animation issue, Don’t be surprised to see another ARC Raiders patch be released in the comint days, given the devs did need to dial back some of the fixes due to errors.

When it comes to content updates, Embark said what they have planned is very “ambitious” and that they have big updates planned before the year is over.

Dying Light 2 Halloween Update Version 1.081/1.80 Adds New Challenges

While Techland released an update for Dying Light: The Beast, the developers haven’t forgotten about Dying Light 2! Today, the game’s Halloween update is live, bringing new challenges, rewards, and more.

Console gamers will see this as Dying Light 2 update 1.081 (complete version 1.081.000) on current-gen, and version 1.80 on last-gen.

Read on for the Halloween Showdown event details, as well as the slew of gameplay changes made today on all platforms.

Dying Light 2 Halloween Update Released on October 39 via Patch 1.80/1081

Halloween Showdown

Halloween returns to Villedor, and this year, it’s bigger, creepier, and packed with plenty of treats! The Halloween-themed decor can be found in various parts of the City once again. Pumpkintiles and seasonal infected roam the streets, dropping Halloween Candies when defeated.

This year’s Halloween event spans three weeks, each built around head-to-head faction contests that challenge players to pick a side and contribute to their faction’s success. Baka the Unfortunate once again serves as the event vendor and guide, distributing bounties, handling trades, and rewarding survivors who embrace the Halloween spirit.

The event runs over three consecutive week-long competitions. Each week presents a new pair of rival factions led by themed characters:

  • Week 1: Plague vs. Scarecrow
  • Week 2: Van Aiden vs. Count Skull
  • Week 3: CyberRaider vs. Cursed Pirate

By completing event activities across Villedor and in the Tower Raid mode, players earn a special event currency: a new type of Halloween Candy. These candies function similarly to previous years’ event tokens, but earning them may vary between weeks:

  • Week 1: you earn them by killing Halloween enemies across Villedor
  • Week 2: you earn them by playing Tower Raid
  • Week 3: you earn them by doing bounties on our Community Maps

Players can exchange these candies with Baka to contribute points toward a chosen faction’s goal. Both factions work toward milestones, and once the target is reached, all participants receive themed weapons corresponding to that matchup. However, the competition continues until the end of the week, encouraging players to keep contributing for a shot at an additional reward.

Speaking of Tower Raid, this Halloween features new layout variations, random modifiers, and a specially decorated rooftop arena culminating in a boss fight unique to this event. Long-time favorites Scarecrow, Plague, Van Aiden, and Cursed Pirate (who you will be able to keep after the event ends) return as playable characters. The new competitor, CyberRaider, joins the lineup with a futuristic, high-mobility combat style. To spice things up, each week we’ll be updating weapons and some items of those characters, so each playthrough will be a little different.

Dying Light 2 October 39 Update Patch Notes

Read on for the overview of new content deployed for players today.

ARMA Reforger’s Update on October 30 Brings New Content Including Single-Player Campaign via Patch 1.6/1.060.054

Operation Omega is a go!

Starting today, the battle for Kolguyev has launched for Arma Reforger players across all platforms. Set foot on this harsh volcanic island and experience one of the largest updates to the game to date. In Update 1.6, take command in the drastically overhauled Conflict HQC game mode, experience the new Operation Omega singleplayer campaign and Air Support scenario, and gear up with new weapons, equipment, and systems to lead your team to victory.

Kolguyev

Kolguyev has finally returned to the Armaverse, reimagined in the Enfusion engine. This rugged volcanic island contrasts beautifully with Everon’s lush greenery, trading grass fields for windswept pines, barren ridges, and the warm hues of the autumn season. Beneath its dormant volcano lies a network of steaming hot springs and winding sulfur streams. Scattered across the island are the rusted remains of an old coal industry.

Conflict HQC

The classic Conflict experience has been completely rebuilt into Headquarters Commander (HQC). In this new rendition of the game mode, a player can step into the role of Commander and coordinate the war effort by assigning tasks to player squads, managing AI logistic units, and leading their faction to victory.

Bases are no longer just fixed objectives but can now be constructed anywhere across an island. Players can also rise through the ranks by contributing to their squad’s success, such as staying close to squadmates, healing allies, repairing vehicles, and completing assigned objectives. Every squad features unique loadouts, group types, and roles designed to coordinate with the entire team.

Resource management now plays a critical role, as the new supply scarcity system requires you to retrieve and transport materials from nearby harbors or depots to keep your forces operational. Don’t worry, though, players also have their own personal supply called Military Supply Allocation by Rank (MSAR), so they aren’t draining all the team’s supplies at the arsenal. HQC represents an entirely new way to experience Conflict, and we look forward to seeing the creativity of players on the battlefield.

Singleplayer Content

In addition to the base game modes like Game Master and Combat Ops being added to Kolguyev, players will also be able to enjoy some solo content as we introduce two new singleplayer experiences:

  • Operation Omega – a five-episode campaign that drops you behind enemy lines, as part of a special forces team operating on Kolguyev.
  • Air Support – a scenario focused on testing your piloting skills as you’re tasked with a variety of transport, fire support, and logistical missions.

Arsenal Additions

The armory has been expanded with new gear and firepower, including new rocket types for the RPG-7, two rocket launchers (RPG-22 and RPG-75), and added camouflage, wrapped versions of the M21 and ART-II. Hand-fired flares are now available to light up the night and mark positions. On the clothing side, players can equip added camouflage patterns such as US Army Tiger Stripe and USSR TTsKO, along with some clothing items of Soviet naval infantry uniforms.

Self-titled combat engineers will find new ways to shape the battlefield with constructable sandbags, mortars, and static weapons that can be carried and deployed almost anywhere. Anti-personnel mines, including the M14 and PMN-4, can also be used to create deadly chokepoints against enemy infantry (and the occasional, absentminded friendly).

Overhauled Systems

Update 1.6 introduces numerous improvements to gameplay systems and core mechanics, which would be too lengthy to list in this article. Here are some quick key features worth mentioning:

  • FIA Rework – The FIA now features new units, better weapon loadouts, and even civilian fighters.
  • Moving on Vehicles – Climb onto the back of a flatbed truck and fire while riding along.
  • HOTAS & Peripheral Support – Preset profiles for HOTAS setups are now included, with customization options planned for the future. Also, Logitech peripherals are fully supported, featuring unique reactive lighting effects for mice and keyboards that respond to in-game events.
  • Environmental Factors – Foliage now reacts to character movement, and wind affects projectiles like bullets, rockets, and mortars.
  • Field Manual Expansion – Dozens of new pages have been added to the Field Manual to help you understand the new systems.
  • Performance Improvements – Hundreds of bug fixes, tweaks, and performance optimizations…

You can read the complete patch notes to see everything that got changed.

NBA 2K26 New Update 1.009 for v2.2 Brings Technical Fixes on Consoles

Following the release of Season 2 for NBA 2K26 two weeks ago, Visual Concepts has released a new patch for the current-gen (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) versions of the game today.

Players will see this as NBA 2K26 updater 1.009 (complete version 1.009.000), and this is a minor update that includes no front-facing changes.

Error: Invalid URL or the post is not found on this site.

Expect a small download for this update, which is unusual for the game.

NBA 2K26 Update 1.009 Released on Consoles This October 30

The lone changelog from Visual Concepts mentions, “Today’s update on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S includes optimizations to improve overall stability. No changes have been made to on-court gameplay.”

As it states, don’t expect any front-facing changes that affect gameplay.

The 2.1 patch was also released before the start of Season 2, and this included the following fixes:

  • Returned ball collision sensitivity on escape dribble moves to pre-Patch 2.0 levels based on community feedback. The improved responsiveness for well-timed, intentional steal attempts remains.
  • Updated the shot meter to properly reflect the green window bonuses of the Poster Machine Takeover Ability.
  • Resolved a reported hang that could occur when attempting to load a MyCAREER save.
  • Fixed a hang following a press conference in the Out of Bounds story.

No word yet if PC and last-gen NBA 2K26 players will get today’s stability patch, but if we see it released, expect it here on MP1st.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Review – A Killer Kombination

The Mortal Kombat series has undergone numerous re-releases and ports over the years, particularly with the first few titles in the franchise, but these were largely released years ago. Prior to this point, only the more recent releases from the last decade or so are easily accessible on modern platforms due to a lack of backwards compatibility unless you bought an Arcade 1Up unit with them on it.

Thankfully, NetherRealm Studios has finally answered the cries of fans by enlisting gaming collection developer extraordinaire Digital Eclipse to give the early years of the series the love it deserves in the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

Celebrating the Past

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection celebrates the history of the franchise, focusing mostly on the 1990s with a few 2000s titles thrown in there as well. The game in total offers 23 variations of Mortal Kombat games, with many duplicates of the same game just on different platforms. The total number of different games included really depends on your interpretation of a port or a new version of a game.

From the start, you have access to every single game within the collection. To make this even easier to browse, the menu allows you to sort between arcade versions, console versions, handheld versions, or view them all together. I adore when collections use original box art and such to display games in a classic collection and Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection does not disappoint. As you scroll through the list of games, each entry is accompanied by an image of the arcade cabinet or the game’s box art, along with the game’s name, a platform icon indicating its compatibility, and the year of release. The only change they made here on each box art is that they removed the actual names of the systems from the box art, instead using more generic terms and showing an icon representing the console beside it.

Before diving into the individual games and whether they are still fun to play today or not, let’s go over all of the games included in the collection. To start, you have the original Mortal Kombat, which was released in arcades in 1992. This game has four ports included beyond the arcade version, including the 1993 Genesis version, the 1993 SNES version, the 1993 Game Boy version, and the 1993 Game Gear version. Jumping to the sequel Mortal Kombat II from 1993, there are also four ports beyond the arcade version, including the 1994 Genesis version, the 1995 Sega 32X version, the 1994 SNES version, and the 1994 Game Boy version. Next, Mortal Kombat 3 from 1995 includes the same year’s port for both Genesis and SNES.

The most intriguing of the inclusions revolves around 1995’s Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Not only do you get the arcade version and the 1996 SNES port, but you also get the incredibly rare 1997 WaveNet Arcade version. Prior to this release, it was impossible to find ROMs for this version, which originally was exclusive to only arcades in the Chicago and San Francisco areas. These WaveNet units had a T1 internet line connected, which allowed for potential future updates, but they never really materialized and died off quickly. The big thing about this one was that it was the only arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 that included Noob Saibot as a playable character. This is something that could have just been left buried forever, but the fact that the development team went to the lengths to revive this version really shows how much love and care they put into Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

That is far from all, though, as the collection jumped to the PlayStation era as well with the inclusions of 1996’s Mortal Kombat Trilogy, 1997’s Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, and even 2000’s Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. I was kind of hoping we’d get the Nintendo 64 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy as well, but there isn’t much difference there.

The leap to 3D for the mainline series is also included with 1997’s Mortal Kombat 4 in the arcade. Sadly, we did not get the console versions, namely the Mortal Kombat Gold release on Dreamcast. While Gold was inferior visually, it did add extra content that would have been nice to have seen be included regardless.

Lastly, there are three games from the Game Boy Advance era with 2001’s Mortal Kombat Advance, 2002’s Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and 2003’s Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition. Having Deadly Alliance included as only a handheld version without its console counterpart is quite disappointing, but I have no doubt that NetherRealm is already planning a second 3D-focused collection for those games down the road based on how much they put into this one.

All of the games included can be played offline, obviously, but it’s also possible to play a number of them online as well. Essentially, all of the arcade versions can be played online, as well as the console ports of each, outside of the single player games like Sub-Zero and Special Forces. The only option for online play is through Quick Match, sadly, with the ability to turn off cross-region matchmaking if you so choose. It is weird that they did not include friend play or lobbies at launch, but they have at least already promised that this is coming in a free update post-launch.

Choose Your Fighter

The original Mortal Kombat has multiple versions in the game, but the best all-around is always going to be the arcade version. Mortal Kombat has always been my least favorite of the original trilogy, as it’s pretty bare-bones all around with the roster, but it’s still a lot of fun to play today. The visuals hold up very well, and the gameplay is as good as it’s always been.

Both the Genesis and SNES versions are also quite good, though they are not quite on par visually with the arcade as back in the day. These versions both perform quite well also. Mortal Kombat had its share of controversies back in the day, but one of them that particularly bothered gamers was that the SNES version had the blood removed entirely and replaced with sweat. Genesis also experienced this, but could have the blood turned back on with a code. This game makes it quite easy to do in the Additional Settings menu though, where blood is already turned on by default and you can choose to turn it off instead. This blood setting is also available for all arcade versions, as well as some other games, such as Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

The Nintendo Game Boy has a lot of classic games on it, but many ports of console titles fared pretty poorly when brought to the handheld platform. Mortal Kombat is definitely one of those, as it’s nearly unplayable on Game Boy. Not only does the monochrome color scheme in this version make it difficult to see, but the gameplay is also awful due to unbearable lag and sluggish controls. Not only that, but Johnny Cage is also missing from the base roster, and you cannot encounter Reptile either. Most of the games are ones I would go back and play again in the future, but this is one of the few I would avoid at all costs.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Review

After playing the Game Boy version of the original, jumping into the Game Gear version is leagues better all around. Not only are there color visuals, but the fighters actually control semi-well and do not feature the incredible lag that was found in the Game Boy version. Instead of Johnny Cage missing from the starting roster, this time it’s Kano alongside the removal of Reptile as an encounter. It’s still obviously inferior to the arcade and console ports, but it’s worth a look nonetheless.

Mortal Kombat II is where the series really took a leap for me and stood out even more when I was a kid. The expanded roster, stage fatalities, and more were fantastic then and are still just as great now. The arcade version is once again the king here, but the other console ports are really enjoyable. The SNES version is now on par with the others, as blood is included, with the visuals and music putting it over the Genesis version for me. The Sega 32X matches the visuals of the SNES, but the music is still what you’re used to for the Genesis. Regardless, it’s hard to go wrong with any of these versions.

That even extends to the Game Boy version of Mortal Kombat II, which, surprisingly, is actually pretty good. Especially when compared side by side with the original Game Boy version, this version is a masterpiece. The game actually feels more like a handheld version of the original and performs significantly better. The abundance of lag and sluggish controls is greatly minimized to surprisingly make this one at least a good bit of fun to try out.

Mortal Kombat 3 actually has the most versions overall in this collection, although they are presented under a few different names. The original Mortal Kombat 3 has always been a great game to play, control-wise and story-wise, but the character omissions are what really drag it down overall. You just can’t have a Mortal Kombat game without Scorpion, which this game tried alongside others like Kitana. While the core game is great and can still be enjoyed, really, there isn’t as much reason to play any of the three versions of Mortal Kombat 3 because you also have Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 available to play.

Besides a few stage replacements and some ending artwork changes, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is the definitive version of Mortal Kombat 3 and arguably the supreme version of the classic trio in arcades. There are some people that think this is where the series started to jump the shark with crazy inclusions like Babalities and Animalities, but I still love having wacky parts of the series like this to enjoy. UMK3 also added back the missing characters in on top of some new stages and even more content. In this collection, you have the original arcade version and the aforementioned WaveNet version, as well as the SNES version. Overall, there’s not much reason to play anything other than the WaveNet version unless you’re partial to the SNES port.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy released for the PlayStation and essentially was a further update to Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 with an even larger playable roster and stages. You can even play as Goro, Motaro, Kintaro, and Shao Kahn if you so choose. Being on the PlayStation meant that the game could be even closer to the arcade versions, although Trilogy was never actually released in arcades. Essentially, Mortal Kombat Trilogy was a best of the original Mortal Kombat trilogy of games as it states in the title, which makes it one of the best to play if you’re looking for the max amount of characters and options available to you. This game also introduced something known as the Aggressor Bar, which made your character faster and stronger the more full it was. This feature was exclusive to this game and is not particularly noteworthy. On the other hand, the game also introduced Brutalities that have become a staple of the franchise in the years since.

Mortal Kombat 4 is the last of the arcade inclusions in the collection, marking the series’ transition to 3D. Of all the original games, this one has been easily one of the most difficult to play today, especially in the arcade version. Unless you somehow have an original arcade unit, there has been no other way to play the arcade version of Mortal Kombat 4 legally. Compared to the original trilogy of games, Mortal Kombat 4 definitely does show its age a little more due to being from the 3D era where developers were still trying to figure things out. That said, this game introduced some new mechanics that played a larger role as the series progressed. This includes the introduction of weapons for each fighter and the ability to move in a 3D plane, rather than the typical 2D plane. One of the best or perhaps most infamous things about Mortal Kombat 4 are some of the Arcade endings that are so over the top and corny that they are amazing. The Jarek one is still every bit as cringy as ever, but I still love every second of it.

Mortal Kombat Advance for the Game Boy Advance was released in the same year as the handheld’s original launch, but the game itself was actually a version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, adapted for the Game Boy Advance six years after its original arcade release. At the time, it might have been fun to play, but this version is not good in any sense of the word. The visuals look poor when put on a full size screen, the game runs slowly, and there’s just zero reason to play it over the arcade or SNES versions at all.

The handheld titles up to this point had been a bit hit and miss, but that finally changes with the next two games of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is actually designed for the Game Boy Advance and it takes great advantage of the system at the time. While the visuals may be a bit blurry on a larger screen now, they look much better than previous handheld titles and the actual gameplay is a lot of fun. The roster is comprised of 12 characters from the console version of Deadly Alliance, including the only appearances of characters like Kenshi.

Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition serves as essentially a sequel to the GBA version of Deadly Alliance, where you now get the remainder of the playable characters from the console version that were not in the first game like Mavado and Johnny Cage. The only carryovers from Deadly Alliance on GBA to Tournament Edition are Scorpion, Quan Chi, and Shang Tsung. Like Deadly Alliance, Tournament Edition is a high-quality fighter on the Game Boy Advance and remains enjoyable to play together. Based on how poor the the first GBA outing for the series was, these two could have easily been overlooked, but they definitely are at least worth a try.

The last two games in the collection that we have to talk about are definitely the two most peculiar of the bunch compared to the others as they aren’t actual fighting games. Before even diving into these two, I knew about their incredibly poor reputations despite never having played them. Even so, I went in with a positive attitude to see if there was anything enjoyable to be had from them.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero moves away from the traditional fighting genre to an action-adventure game where you play as the original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, in a prequel to the first game. Even with moving to a new genre, though, the game still, oddly enough, maintains most of the same gameplay, with fighting, as you now move left to right in the level. The visuals look quite good from the PS1 here, still using real-life character models that the series had been known for, instead of going the route found in Mortal Kombat 4.

An immediate problem here though is just how stiff playing as Sub-Zero feels. It’s one thing to be a little stiff in a fighter, but that does not work in a side-scrolling game that becomes a platformer in some sections. These are some of the absolute worst sections too, as grabbing onto ledges can be a nightmare due to the game’s physics. The way that Sub-Zero turns in different directions is also incredibly painful and frustrating, but at least this version has a setting you can adjust to modernize this. This game also had a power up system where you had to earn experience points to unlock attacks like forward freeze, so you are stuck with just punching and kicking for the first few minutes until you unlock the first power up. At least there’s a decent number of power ups to unlock in the game though.  The game is the very definition of janky and is hard to recommend, but I can’t say that I didn’t at least have a little fun with it and wish the series would experiment a little more like this. The live action cutscenes are pretty cool to see in the game, even as dated and low-budget as they look too.

While Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is not good, but is at least playable and a little fun, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is just plain bad. Rather than utilizing the classic style character models and live-action cutscenes from Sub-Zero, this game adopts a more traditional PS1-era design that hasn’t aged well. Instead of a side-scrolling style, this also tries to be more modern for that time by aiming to be more like say Metal Gear Solid, but it fails miserably at doing so. The enemies feel like sponges when you hit them and it just does not even feel like a Mortal Kombat game either. This game is famous for its development troubles that ultimately resulted in the removal of Sonya Blade as a playable character and much of the game, so who knows what could have been. For the time being, though, you can skip this one entirely as it really has no redeeming qualities other than saying you tried it.

Beyond the Games

One feature I always love in collections like this is when then they include scans of the original instruction manuals, which every single non-arcade game in this collection has. Even the arcade version of Mortal Kombat 4 includes an instruction manual, while the other arcade units feature flyers from the time instead. Getting to take a glimpse into the past when instruction manuals were really a work of art at times is always great to see, and I’m so happy that they included them here.

On top of the included instruction manuals, each game has its own game settings that you can set from the main menu and some others from the pause menu of specific games. This includes the previously mentioned blood option, but also other things like difficulty options, turning on unlimited round timers and fatality timers, allowing you to play as Human Smoke in UMK3, allowing the playing of characters like Meat or use of alternate costumes in Mortal Kombat 4, and many more. Within each game’s additional settings, you can also turn on a rewind feature, though I found it to be more of a hindrance than a help most of the time here as the way it’s done is through pressing L3 or the button equivalent. One of the best inclusions here was the ability to have each fighter’s special moves listed on screen if you want, allowing you to pull them and fatalities off much easier than ever.  It was a bit strange how some settings were exclusive to the in-game Additional Settings menu, while others were available in the main game selection screen settings options. In fact, if you didn’t pay close attention, you might have missed out on the main settings options for each.

Classic game collections from Digital Eclipse are rarely just the games themselves, as they often are treated like museum pieces for the history of that franchise. Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection not only does this through the included instruction manuals, but the entire area of the game known as The Krypt. Typically, The Krypt is a place to unlock items in some of the PS2 era MK games and onward, but here it is used as a tribute to the franchise.

Within The Krypt, a documentary is available to watch about the series, split into five parts. This documentary explores the origins of the franchise, the controversies that arose along the way, the ways in which the franchise was an innovator, and the transition of the series to 3D in arcades and at home.

What is really cool about this documentary, though, is that it’s interactive beyond just providing videos for you to watch. It comprises five total chapters, each spanning a year or two of the franchise, until the final part leaps much further into the future as well. Within each chapter, there are short video snippets of a few minutes each to watch, featuring important names like Ed Boon, while also interspersed with images and text descriptions to effectively build the timeline of the franchise. This is, without a doubt, one of the most in-depth documentary sections I’ve seen included in a gaming collection, and I thoroughly enjoyed going through it as a long-time fan of the franchise.

After the Documentary section, you can then visit the Kombatants section of The Krypt. Within Kombatants, you can look at a bio for each of the characters that have been part of the first four games in the series as at least a base roster Kombatant. Unfortunately, the 3D era fighters from Deadly Alliance that make their way into the GBA version in this collection are not included, but I’m sure they are just being saved for the inevitable 3D collection. When you click on a specific Kombatant, it provides a more detailed description of their character, accompanied by an animation of them next to it. It also lets you go through the games in the series to see how that character’s story unfolded too. It was also a nice touch that you can sort the first four games by listing who was available in each one in this section.

The last section of The Krypt includes the Music Player, a common feature found in collections like this as well. In the Music Player, you can sort through each of the games in the collection and choose to either listen to them or add them to your favorites to create your own playlist to listen to together. I was really hoping to see a surprise inclusion of the incredible Mortal Kombat movie theme song, especially since the movie is mentioned in the documentary section, but sadly, it is not part of the Music Player here unless it’s a hidden unlockable.

Verdict

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection once again proves just how fantastic the early days of the franchise was across the first mainline games, alongside some extra inclusions like Sub-Zero and Special Forces, even if they aren’t all that good. This release is yet another example of why Digital Eclipse is one of the best at revisiting the past, as it not only provides the core experience of these classic Mortal Kombat games but also goes above and beyond with features like The Krypt. Whether you are looking to replay some of your favorite games or perhaps are new to the franchise and want to see where the modern series got its start, you cannot go wrong with Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros:

  • Includes still some of the best fighters ever made
  • Wide variety of platform options for most games
  • Added settings options
  • The Krypt kontent
  • Included just about everything they could

Cons:

  • No lobbies or friend match at launch
  • A few games included games are not great

  • Survivors in Encounters are now more resistant to player and enemy hits

With a patch this big, don’t be surprised if we get a follow-up patch to be released by Techland.

Fixes

All Platforms

  1. Fixed an issue where sending emojis in chat could cause the sender’s name to be invisible to other players.

Maps and Modes

  1. Marvel Zombies Mode: Career defeat records now correctly use the actual Final Hits count.
  2. Marvel Zombies Mode: Fixed several issues where zombies could get stuck in certain locations.
  3. Domination Energy Shuffle: In Domination mode, reconnecting during a round switch could sometimes zap your Ultimate Ability charge down to 50% if you had more. We’ve stabilized the power; no more energy resets worthy of a reality stone twist!

Heroes

Loki’s Trickster Troubles: We’ve fixed a bug where Loki couldn’t deploy his doppelgangers on Cyber-Webs left by Peni Parker’s Ultimate Ability after round swaps in Competitive. The God of Mischief is back in action, no more outwitting himself on the Spider-Bot’s turf!
Hela’s Haunted Hijinks: Hela had a ghostly glitch where if an enemy hit by Piercing Night respawned at Rocket Raccoon’s beacon, the Nightsword Thorns would still detonate after the delay. The Queen of Hel has relinquished her extra hits; no more double jeopardy from the beyond!
Blade’s Whirlwind Woes: Blade’s Bloodline Awakening Whirlwind Slash was unexpectedly interrupting Scarlet Shroud. We’ve sharpened his technique; now he slashes only what he’s meant to, not his own abilities!
Black Widow’s Sky-High Stumble: Natasha’s Power Jump could launch her to S.H.I.E.L.D. satellite heights if she were hit while airborne. We’ve clipped her wings, now the Widow’s leaps stay covert, not cosmic!
Speedy Slip-Ups: Spidey’s Ultimate Ability in certain situations sometimes failed to stun Captain America and Black Widow when they were sprinting faster than a New York taxi. Peter’s got his groove back. Now, nobody escapes the wall-crawler’s webs!
Invisible Woman’s Stealthy Slip-Up: Using Veiled Step, followed immediately by Force Physics, sometimes would only trigger its sound effects without actual damage or control. Now, her powers are as solid as the Fantastic Four, no more invisible mishaps!
Storm & Jeff’s Tornado Tangle: A bug let the Jeff-Nado appear even if Jeff The Land Shark was KO’d the moment when he and Storm initiated their team-up. We’ve calmed the winds, no more ghostly (and bitey) gales on the battlefield!
Jeff O’Lantern Spooky Snafu: After equipping the Jeff O’Lantern’s upgraded Ultimate Ability VFX, the effect stubbornly stuck to the default look in Marvel Zombies mode. We’ve exorcised the glitch, now his Halloween havoc looks as frightful(ly cute) as intended!

When a newer Marvel Rivals update is out, we will be the first to let our readers know about it.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Update 1.000.008 (version 1.41) is now available to download on all platforms. While it doesn’t add any new content, it does introduce a host of balancing changes across multiple characters.

There are some buffs, but it also looks like some nerfs are here, too.

  • Adjusted knockback on hit of Yamcha’s Wolf Fang Fist: Finisher (Light) attack.

Goku Black

Fierce God Kick (Heavy)

  • Reduced length of stun time on corner hits for Goku Black’s Fierce God Kick (Heavy) attack when the effect does not trigger.

Zamasu (Fused)

Wall of Light

  • Adjusted attack timing and cooldown time before reuse of Zamasu (Fused)’s Wall of Light attack.

Videl

Moonsault Kick (Heavy)

  • Made it easier to hit opponents in the corner with Videl’s Moonsault Kick (Heavy) attack for the ground version.

Goku (Ultra Instinct)

Unrestrained Will

  • Limited number of times Goku (Ultra Instinct)’s Unrestrained Will attack can be performed per Z Combo to 1.

That’s it, though we’re expecting plenty more updates to come now that the game is slated to get a new character this upcoming Spring. Perhaps we’ll see even more characters announced beforehand? One can hope!
