Xbox Live Is Down on October 29

Xbox gamers trying to log in to play multiplayer or purchase anything from the Microsoft Xbox Store ‘ll have a hard time doing so, as the service is down and suffering issues on October 29.

This started an hour ago and has persisted with multiple reports flooding in from gamers.

Xbox Live Down and Impacting Online Gaming and More on October 29

Update: Microsoft has issued an announcement confirming all services are up and running, stating, “All Xbox Services have recovered to their pre-incident state. Thank you for your patience while we addressed this issue.”

Original Story:

The Xbox downdetector site has seen thousands of new reports surface in the last hour, and people on the Xbox subreddit have mentioned it as well. What’s odd here is that the official Xbox support site isn’t even loading, and there has been no acknowledgment of the outage from Microsoft.

We’re closely monitoring the situation and if anything changes, we’ll update the article. Hopefully, Microsoft offers a statement or an update soon, so we at least know what’s happening.

If you can connect or play online on your Xbox platform, leave a comment below, but as far as we’re aware, this is happening to everyone in the world right now.

In other Xbox news, a new rumor has surfaced stating that the next-gen Xbox will run on Windows, and will even remove the multiplayer paywall. The Xbox division’s Phil Spencer also confirmed that Hideo Kojima’s OD horror game is being aided by Xbox both in terms of technical and even in gameplay.

ARC Raiders Final Preview: Ready for Topside

In just one day, players from all around the world will finally get to play Embark Studios’ newest title, ARC Raiders. What started as a free-to-play PvE has now transformed into a paid extraction shooter. Unsurprisingly, that has caused some to be skeptical of the game, but with a few playtests — both closed and public — now behind us, many of those concerns have been put to rest, in what some are considering one of the most exciting extraction shooters released in recent years. As someone who wasn’t a fan of the genre, it’s undoubtedly been the game that made me change my mind about extraction shooters.

With less than 24 hours to go until release, Embark Studios invited us for one last four-hour playtest last week, this time looking at the final (if not, then near) build of the game. There are many questions we still have about it, but I suppose the one on many eager fans’ minds is: Does the game live up to the hype? Well, based on what we played, the answer is a resounding yes.

The Rust Belt Is a Beautiful, and Dangerous Place

Now I want to start this final preview by setting some ground rules for what we played. For those who played through the first wave of techtests, and I suppose even the server slam, this felt more like an extended play session if anything. With it being only 4 hours long, don’t expect many, if any, talks about progression, as we all started at level 1. With limited time to level up, we didn’t get to test the progression as much as in previous tests, so crafting and upgrading stations, the skill tree, etc., in my experience, only amounted to a few levels. So I’m trying to be very careful about talking about that and plan to save it for our full review once we get our hands on the final release. And although it was on the menu, we also didn’t have the opportunity to check out Expedition Progress, or to see it in action.

Like I said, it was more like an extended play session of the original tech tests, having to restart all over again, including the tutorial level. Those who thought the game was light on content because of the recent server slam test, you can rest easy: from what I saw, there’s plenty to work towards that wasn’t present in that test. I’m also saving many of my thoughts for the review, but for those who missed out on the tests and server slam, I wanted to touch on what makes this game so damn fun.

By no means do I consider myself an expert in the extraction shooter genre. In fact, I actively avoid these types of games because I’ve yet to play one that I actually like. Maybe it’s the complication of genre, and how many feel it’s not very “casual friendly.” That’s not to say ARC Raiders is being built as a casual game, because if this press preview is anything to go by, it’s going to have a very high skill ceiling once players figure it out. But even so, as someone who went from not being a fan of the genre to now being excited to play one of its games, there’s a lot about ARC Raiders that makes it very welcoming, if that’s the right word.

Being introduced to the world of ARC Raiders via the game’s onboarding tools is, in my opinion, one of the best I’ve seen in an extraction game. It starts things off with an introduction to the game’s universe with a gorgeous CGI cutscene, and then drops you into a single-player-like instance where you have to get back to the extraction point. A few scripted events play out here, including a massive robot walking in the far distance as a storm begins to roll in, where you eventually get knocked out and your loot is stolen by NPC Raiders. From there, you navigate through a short terrain with a few ARC enemies (machines) before reaching the elevator and watching yet another cutscene to set the mood of the game.

It isn’t a whole lot, but the way it’s handled is pretty effective at setting the stage for the rest of the game. The general gist is that Earth’s surface has become unlivable due to deadly machines called ARC taking over. This forced the remaining survivors underground, where they formed the bunker city of Speranza. All raiders are from here, and ironically, despite going to the surface for the “greater good” of Speranza, the raiders will still fight among one another to the point they’d kill each other for loot. It’s a community, but that doesn’t mean people, especially those who risk their lives, won’t be selfish.

It’s a fun concept, with it building a broader universe as you progress. The cutscenes certainly give it a cinematic vibe, something the gameplay also captures. At its heart, ARC Raiders is a third-person shooter. Despite some wanting it to go first-person, I honestly can’t imagine this game working as such without changing its pacing and going for something entirely different. I would almost compare the flow of combat to something like Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. I’m not saying it’s identical, but it definitely has that slower-paced combat that relies heavily on using stealth and cover, as well as your environment to your advantage, rather than jumping into firefights like a twitch shooter. There’s a heavy feel to the game, and I mean that both literally and not. Some may think the gameplay is “sluggish,” which I can agree with, but that fits in with the theme the game is going for. It’s also “heavy” in the sense that you need to always be on your toes and make the right decision. One wrong move can mean life or death in this world.

But there’s more to it than that, as the world, while dangerous, is also very beautiful, with a grandeur that evokes classic sci-fi epics like Star Wars. There’s this sense of mystery and magic in the air that I can’t quite put my finger on, that makes it so captivating, but I think it boils down to the scale and the silence. It’s Earth, but it’s also not, and I find myself oddly wanting to explore and discover more about it. Mix that into the soundscape, which is just an utter mastery of audio design that elevates the atmosphere. It’s a world that is impossible to ignore the moment you step into it.

Honestly, it’s the perfect setting for a single-player or PvE game, but it wouldn’t have gotten there weren’t for its shift to a more PvP-focused experience. Honestly, I love what Embark Studios has done here. Would I have preferred the PvE setting more? Probably, but while playing the game as it is now—an extraction shooter with a story to tell—I think it benefited from this shift in focus.

I think a lot of extraction games are missing that component where players can focus on the exploration and dangers of a world, and don’t immediately get interrupted by some trigger-happy, shooter-first-and-ask-questions-later player. The PvP is a big component of the game, but with PvE mixed in, it offers a more approachable social aspect than its peers. I would almost wager that as the months pass, more and more matches will see players teaming up to take down massive ARCs that are literally the size of apartments. It, in a lot of ways, reminds me of Helldivers 2. Not in terms of gameplay. That, and it lacks PvP (unless you count friendly fire). I’m talking about the community aspect — that unspoken camaraderie that naturally forms when you’re tossed into chaos with strangers who share the same goal: survive, extract, and maybe grab a few scraps along the way.

Make Your Own Stories

I fully understand the dynamic of the PvP side of things. There’s a lot of tension going topside, never knowing who’s friend or who’s foe. In some instances, we’ve gone full gun blazing as a single bullet wizzes past our face, telling us these players are allies. Another, coming to an understanding that we’re just out here for loot, only for that other team to murk us as we approached an elevator. There was a time during the press preview when I wandered away from my teammates, and while in the loot screen, a full squad rolled up on me. Fortunate for me, they were cool and friendly enough to leave me unscathed as they extracted from the map via a train.

That mix of tension, trust, and treachery is what gives ARC Raiders its personality. I can imagine this being a fun PvE, but I can also see it getting old really fast. Adding PvP to the mix was the right call, and I think it’s where players are going to get the most out of it. Every run in the game could be a story filled with high stakes and rewards, but not one where success is guaranteed. But it’s those stories that will ultimately shine with the playberbase, and having it all told from the player’s perspective adds more to the universe of ARC Raiders.

Now, with this being a very short preview, there is one thing that concerns me, and it’s the matchmaking system. This press event had us going against some of the biggest emerging content creators for the game. I’m talking about people who likely invested hundreds of combined hours in all the tests. Because of the limited player pool (I’d be surprised if there were more than 100 of us), it really showed the skill gap between everyone. I’ll be the first to admit, I suck at this game, like, completely ass. That hasn’t deterred me from enjoying it, but I can see where being thrown into matches against professional players that don’t want to team up can get tiring. I only mention this because you might see some not-so-good previews out there from other outlets, which, to be fair, is understandable. I was hoping things would have been taken a little bit easier, considering how little time we had with this build, and having some of that go to waste with loading and navigating the menus between matches. My fear is that the final experience will eventually become that, a super-sweat-fest for new players who are instantly turned off by that side of the game, while missing out on the other.

Now, for the new content, we did get to try out The Blue Gate map. This map is more of an open wilderness type of map, where, although it has some big structures, they are far apart from one another, and you’ll be traversing across high-elevation terrain and densely populated vegetation. Much of the cover is naturally made from the environment, such as pockets of hills and parts of the Rocky Mountains. There’s a collapsed highway with vehicles scattered around, but this map definitely leaves you a lot more open to confrontations than others. Small shacks and storage units scattered here make scavenging both exciting and nerve-wracking, since visibility works both ways. You can spot enemies from afar, but they can just as easily spot you. Hillsides make for perfect ambush spots or sniper nests, while valleys become death traps if you’re not careful.

The map itself is beautiful, so much so that we risked our chance of survival to get this slow walk going, because why not?

As for the game’s final map, Stella Montis, well, it’s still a mystery to everyone, since we (as in no one in the preview) didn’t get a chance to try it out. We aren’t even sure if it’s a traditional map, persay like the other ones, but that’s a mystery we’ll all find out when the game launches this week.

Before I close this out, I wanted to briefly touch on the performance of the final build we played. Now I am using an RTX 4090 and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, so the build itself is near the top of their list. But even my fellow squadmates who were using much weaker hardware made a note of how smooth ARC Raiders ran. With Unreal Engine 5, I often cap my performance at 60 FPS due to the microstutter that often accompanies it. I have that issue with Embark’s other game, The Finals, but it’s clear they really put in the effort here to ensure a smooth and stable experience. I cranked my framerate to match my 144Hz monitor, and the game ran stupendously smooth. Whatever the tech wizards at Embark are doing, keep doing it, because this is easily one of the most impressive feats for an Unreal Engine 5 I’ve seen. Of course, that can change in the final release, but things are looking really good in terms of performance. I didn’t even need to use any frame-gen (which I dislike) here, and even with the highest settings and at 4K, it was silky smooth. Let’s hope that remains the case when it gets into more players’ hands.

Between this and past playtests, I feel pretty confident that ARC Raiders is well-positioned to change the extraction shooter landscape. That’s a lot of hope on the game, I know, but I really do think that Embark Studios has something really special here. I know, I know, it’s easy to get caught up in the launch hype of things, but considering I went from disliking the genre to now seeing what makes it so special, I think the vision behind this game is already proving to have an impact on many. It feels ready for prime time, and if Embark can deliver on the promise shown so far, we might just be looking at the next big evolution of the extraction shooter genre.

Lots to be excited about this week, and I cannot wait to see not only what the final game ends up being, but also the game’s future.

ARC Raiders officially launches on October 30, 2025, on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Review – A New Reimagining

Dragon Quest fans were really excited to see the release of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake last year, which was very well received and left people wanting even more. With the first three games in the series being known as the Erdrick trilogy, it might have seemed weird to release the remake of the third game before the other two. However, this is because the third game is a prequel to the first two, so it makes sense chronologically here. Now the first two games in the trilogy have arrived in one package as Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake.

The HD-2D Trend

HD-2D remakes have become a very popular way to design games that aim to feel like they are from the 16-bit era, or are remakes of games from that era or earlier, that want to maintain sprite animations. Square Enix was the pioneer of this design with Octopath Traveler back in 2017, and they followed that up with new games like Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveler 2 as well. They also utilized this on the Live A Live remake and Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake, so it only makes sense they would continue that style as they did in this collection.

Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake continues the trend of gorgeous-looking HD-2D games, looking just like its predecessor last year. The backgrounds are beautifully rendered, and the colors of the sprites really pop as they move across the screen and in battle. Considering that both of these were originally 8-bit games on the NES, it’s really incredible how much of a facelift these games have received through HD-2D while still maintaining the core level design.

The original Dragon Quest was released in 1986 for the NES, followed by the sequel Dragon Quest II in 1987, and then Dragon Quest III in 1988. Even though these games were only a year apart, they are far from just the same game with more content. In fact, each subsequent entry introduced some new gamechangers to the franchise that really have helped to impact the RPG genre as a whole.

When you first fire up the game, you have the option to pick between Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II on the main screen, so you can dive right into the second game if you so choose, though I strongly recommend playing the first game first. Upon picking your game of choice, you also get to decide upon which difficulty level you’d like. Dracky Quest is the easiest difficulty and allows you to focus more on the story and not have as much trouble in battle. Dragon Quest is the normal setting, and it is pretty standard. Lastly, Draconian Quest is the hard mode where not only are enemies stronger, but you also earn fewer experience points and gold coins. I personally feel that Dragon Quest is the perfect balance here for both games, but you can choose to go with whichever difficulty is best for you.

The Story Begins

Dragon Quest I takes place years after Dragon Quest III, where Erdrick had saved the world against the Lord of the Underworld and brought peace to Alefgard. The game begins with the Dragonlord rising and wreaking havoc upon Alefgard. The main protagonist that you play as is a descendant of the hero Erdrick, so you have the heroic blood in your veins and must take down the Dragonlord and bring back peace to the land. Being an original NES game in the first place, the story here is pretty basic for the most part, but it is still quite enjoyable to experience as you play through. I also still love the ending here, as it’s not just a by-the-book type of ending you would come to expect.

In addition, this new version adds to the story with different quests that help to flesh out the world. The world of the fairies gets a major plotline throughout part of the game for one, while you also get introduced to what are now series staples like Robbin’ ‘ood as part of the main story now too. Not only does the extra content flesh out the story itself here, but it also extends the length of what was a pretty short game into a good bit longer here.

One of the biggest complaints fans and I have had about the first Dragon Quest was that it required way too much grinding to advance the story. While there wasn’t that much story to be found throughout back then, you spent a lot of your time just grinding for XP through battles to make yourself ready for what was to come or you would get destroyed by the enemies. While this game still requires a good bit of grinding at times, the extra content scattered throughout has helped make the grind a little less apparent and required, since the enemies are more gradually leveled than before.

Something that sets Dragon Quest I apart from most RPGs that you have likely played is that you are given one player in your party, and that is all that you will have in your party for the entire game. As the story had only the descendant of Erdrick going on this quest, I am glad this was not changed just to modernize it and better align with future games. Instead, this game feels rather unique as a result where you have to worry about building one character and one character only. There is only one character you can attack with, and there is only one character that enemies can attack, you. This does make things quite a bit harder from the start until you level up further, though even then it can get difficult, which is why the aforementioned grinding is often required.

Dragon Quest II followed up the original game with a story that took place generations later, as we follow the descendants of the hero from Dragon Quest I, and also, in turn, Erdrick. In this time period, three new kingdoms have been formed by the descendants, but now darkness has come for their world yet again, with the villainous Hargon arising. This means that the bloodline must come together to fight darkness and save the world once again.

The major change found in Dragon Quest II was that you not only have just a party of one, but a party of three that included the Hero and his cousins, the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke. This new version though changes things up greatly by increasing that party size to four by including the Princess of Cannock as well. In the original version, she was viewed as too young and not allowed to be part of the quest to defeat Hargon, but this version wisely adds her into the mix to match the party size found in Dragon Quest III. Having these extra party members not only greatly helps make combat less difficult at times than in the first game, but also adds to the story, as they are all directly involved in the main plot. I found this much better than how Dragon Quest III even does it, which I mentioned in my review for that HD-2D remake where the custom created party members felt useless outside of combat since they were not tied into the main plot. I will always prefer pre-designed party members in a game like this compared to custom-created party members, like in III and IX, notably.

Familiar Gameplay

If you have played Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, you should pretty much know what to expect from most of the gameplay and how the game itself is structured in Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II. The game features a world map you must traverse to visit towns, caves, shrines, and more. If you would like, you can have the game mark on the map where you are supposed to go next, which is quite helpful. Otherwise, you will be reliant on the Objectives list found on the pause menu to tell you where you are supposed to go, which you can also turn off if you want to go completely blind.

Traveling across the map feels pretty good, as you can walk or run at any time. There are some obstacles to prevent you from going certain paths, as well as some hazards like poison ground that you have to use spells to get across if you don’t want to get poisoned. Whether on the world map or within the various locations that aren’t towns, you will have random encounters with enemies for that respective area. These enemies come in groups and can often overwhelm you if you are not prepared.

Dragon Quest I is one of the games that made the turn-based RPG popular in the first place, and the combat is still pretty satisfying today in both games. You and the enemy alternate, taking turns against one another, with the speed of your characters and the enemies deciding how many attacks and such can be done at a time. You will often come across enemies that can attack you twice for every one attack you land, so be prepared for that. When playing Dragon Quest I, you can very quickly get overwhelmed due to the speed of enemies, while having a party of characters in Dragon Quest 2 does alleviate this a bit.

As per the norm in Dragon Quest, the enemies are grouped by types and often by where they are located on the battlefield. This allows you to attack multiple enemies at once with certain attacks, while also still being limited to these groups. When it’s your turn, you have the options to Fight, Tactics, and Flee. Flee is always a good option if you are close to dying and do not want to get a game over, though it doesn’t always work the first or even second time if the enemies block your way. Tactics allow you to set up attacks and auto-battle, which I never found myself wanting to do.

Choosing Fight is where the combat really opens up, as you have the options of Attack, Spells, Defend, Abilities, Items, and Equipment. Attack will do a general attack based on the equipped weapon that you have. Spells allow you to use any spells that you have learned by consuming MP, including the staples like Sizz, Fizzle, and Heal. Abilities take this a step further and let you use special abilities like Flame Slash, Dodgy Dance, Dragon Slash, and more using MP as well. You have to be very careful, though, because using a mix of too many Spells and Abilities can quickly drain your MP, and that will quickly lead you down a road you don’t want to be on when stuck in a dungeon somewhere. Defend lets you defend for a turn and reduce the damage of incoming attacks, but I felt like this wasn’t worth using too often, except in special cases. Items allow you to use any items in your character’s bag to do things like heal or even attack the enemy. Lastly, you can equip something different in battle with Equip, though I don’t recall ever using this one in battle.

Characters in both Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II will level up as you earn XP and learn new spells and abilities, but that is not the only way to obtain new spells and abilities. In fact, there is a new way in the game to obtain exclusive skills that can be very handy. Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake introduces what are known as Scrolls, which you will find in treasure chests. Upon finding these scrolls, you can use them on your characters to teach them a specific skill that they will now be able to use from that point onward. I thought this was an interesting way to introduce some spells and abilities that you can choose to build your party around in II, especially.

One major quality of life inclusion here is that you can choose the battle speed at any time by pressing L or R to switch between Normal, Fast, and Ultra-Fast. With the game being turn-based, this helps immensely and prevents it from feeling dragged out. Unlike some of the Final Fantasy remasters over the years that actually added an overall in-game speed up, this here is specific to battle. You can also fast forward through conversations separately, but you have to activate it manually.

A Dragon Quest staple has always been to go to the church in the game to save, purify curses, and such. While this is still the only way to save manually, Dragon Quest I also has the amazing auto-save to save you at times. As mentioned, Dragon Quest I has a steep difficulty curve at times, where you have to grind to level up, but you won’t always know when that difficulty is going to creep up quickly and lead to your death. Rather than throwing you back to the last church you saved at, you can always utilize the auto-save that seemed to pretty much save after every battle or so that I found. For purists, you can still just choose to only load the manual saves and avoid the auto-saves altogether, but it’s an incredible help in a game like this to have auto-save included.

Another carryover from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the introduction of full voice acting. This isn’t just for stray voice lines at certain points, but is used quite a bit in the game, especially when the story is involved. This does not mean that every single line in the game is voiced, as they definitely are not, but there’s still a lot of it to be found. Once again, this adds so much more to the game’s immersive factor by not just featuring voice acting, but really top-notch voice acting.

Verdict

Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake is just as good as expected by taking the same engine designed for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and remaking the first two games in it. These remakes have come with not only a fantastic visual upgrade, but also additions to the story and gameplay that make the games better than ever. Making these classic RPGs more accessible than ever is a real treat and you can tell they were done with a lot of love and care and not just as a quick cash grab after the success of the remake of III. Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake once again confirm that HD-2D really continues to be the best way to revive older RPGs like this from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, and I really hope we see more from the Dragon Quest series and maybe even extend to other series like Final Fantasy as well in the future.

Thankfully, the next remake isn’t that far off, as Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is due for release on Feb. 5, 2026.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • HD-2D visuals are beautiful
  • Expanded story and more fleshed out characters
  • Fourth party member in Dragon Quest II
  • Addition of voice acting
  • Auto-save capability

Cons:

  • First game especially is still a little too grindy at parts
  • Games definitely stick to classic style, so might not be for everyone

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles New Update Applies Balance Changes via Patch 1.030/1.03

Square Enix has released the first post-release update for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, and it applies more than just bug fixes.

Console gamers will see the download appear as Final Fantasy: The Ivalice Chronicles update 1.03/1.030 (complete ver. 1.030.000), and this should be a small download across all platforms.

Expect fixes to both the enhanced and classic versions of the tactical RPG.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Update on Oct. 29 Applies Fixes via Version 1.03/1.030

Here’s what’s new per Square Enix:

Enhanced

  • Game balance for certain battles when playing in Squire mode has been adjusted.
  • Certain sound effects have been adjusted.
  • Other minor issues have been resolved.

Classic

  • An error that affected errand reports has been resolved.
  • Certain sound effects have been adjusted.

That’s about it. Honestly, we’re not expecting any patches for the game at all, save for a fix for anything game-breaking, which the game doesn’t have.

We’re not expecting any new content either, as the game is pretty much a one-and-done affair. If you’ve yet to play it, check out our review where we state, “Final Fantasy Tactics was already a stellar game with one of the best and most riveting stories in the entire franchise, even underrated a bit perhaps due to the genre for mainstream audiences at the time of original release, and now players are getting a chance to play it again with some major quality of life changes to make the experience better.”

Palworld’s 1.0 release is set for early 2026, and the developers have promised new content to be part of it. Once we know more abot the game’s future plans, we’ll let our readers know.

Tekken 8 update 2.006.002 has begun rolling out across all platforms. This is a minor update, so don’t expect anything beyond some bug fixes, which is expected given that we just received Armor King two weeks ago.

PNY Reveals New PCIe 5.0 SSD Capable of 14.9 GB/s Speeds Starting at $125

PNY is expanding its line of solid-state drives with the all-new CS3250 M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD. While there’s been plenty of SSDs capable of blistering speeds, what makes PNY’s a bit different is not only how fast this new model can read and write, but also its low price point.

It won’t break the bank, which might make it one of the best bangs for your buck.

PNY New Phison E28-Powered Drive Promises Impressive Speeds

As announced by PNY, the CS3250 M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD is now available to purchase. They’re the first Phison E28-Powered Drive to hit the consumer market stateside, which is rather exciting, as they boast improved speeds and capacity over previous-gen NVMe drives. Just how fast, you ask? Well, according to PNY, it’s capable of hitting a whopping 14,900 MB/s seq. read and 14,000 MB/s seq. write speeds!

Sure, we’ve seen that in other drives, such as the WD_BLACK 1TB SN8100 (one of the best drives on the market), but here’s the real kicker: the CS3250 (which is now available) begins its MSRP at $125 USD for the 1TB model. For comparison, the WD_BLACK 1TB SN8100, at non-discounted MSRP, typically $179-200 for the 1TB model.

Assuming PNY can actually back those claims when it comes to performance, we might be looking at perhaps one of the best NVMe drives to hit the market to date. Tom’s Hardware recently reviewed the Phison E28, which they dubbed the best Gen 5 NVMe they’ve ever tested. Let’s hope PNY’s version can follow that, though being the first to the consumer already puts it ahead there.

Here are features and specs of the CS3250 M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD.

Product Features

  • SUPERIOR GEN5 SPEED: The NVMe PCIe Gen5 x4 interface delivers performance of up to 14,900 MB/s seq. read and 14,000 MB/s seq. write speeds2
  • AI-READY PERFORMANCE: Built to handle the demands of modern AI applications, from real-time image generation to deep learning tasks
  • THERMAL COATED CONTROLLER: Advanced thermal design keeps temperatures low, maintains peak speeds during heavy multitasking or transfers, and extends drive lifespan for long-term reliability
  • GAMING UPGRADE: Enhance your gaming with faster speeds, quicker load times, reduced lag, and smoother streaming in games that use dynamic world streaming
  • INCREASED STORAGE: Increase the storage on your M.2 2280 compatible devices by up to 2TB to expand your game library, hold more files, or increase your total capacity¹

Product Specifications:

PNY CS3250 M.2 NVMe Gen5 x4 Solid State Drive

Steam Down on October 28

Uh-oh, for those looking for some game time once they get home from work, that might not be feasible now if you’re on PC, as Steam is down. Yes, the entire platform is down on October 28 affecting users worldwide.

Reports are flooding in from users that not only is Steam down, but there are issues logging in as well.

Steam Is Down and  Results in Failed and Slow Logins on October 28

steam down oct. 7

Not only did downdetector for Steam explode, but based on our own tests, there is a chance you’ll be able to login, but it’s slow as a snail, or might even result in an error.

So far, Valve has not issued any announcements regarding the outage. We’re currentlt left in the dark whether this is a DDoS attack (distributed denial of service), or a simple malfunction within the digital storefront’s backend. This is the second time this month that Steam went down, which is a bit worrying.

It’s bad timing, given Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale, Battlefield RedSec, just launched today.

We’re on the lookout to see if Valve will offer an official statement, and once we know more, we’ll update the article with the info.

If you can login (or can’t), leave a comment below and let us know where you’re connecting from.

In other Steam-related news, a new report mentions that 40% of Steam games in 2025 earned less than $100. Hopefully, this won’t happen when ARC Raiders releases later this week.

Battlefield 6 & BF RedSec Rogue Ops Pack Is Free for PlayStation Plus Members But $20 for Xbox, PC Players

It seems the PlayStation-exclusive perks for the Battlefield franchise aren’t just for Battlefield 6, but even for the recently released battle royale mode, Battlefield RedSec.

Not only did BF6 beta players receive PlayStation-exclusive rewards, but even in the final retail version, PlayStation Plus members even get bonus XP just for squadding up.

It doesn’t end there: a new DLC pack can now be obtained by PlayStation Plus members.

Battlefield RedSec Continues PlayStation Perks for Gamers

The Rogue Ops Pack contain the following:

• “Going Dark” PAX Assault Soldier Skin
• “No Limits” Soldier Patch
• “Target Spotted” Player Card Background
• “Jacked In” Weapon Charm
• “Lead Rain” Dog Tag
• “Aggressive Tactics” Vehicle Decal
• “Night Raid” UH-79 Vehicle Skin
• “Seasoned” Weapon Sticker
• “Lamina” Parachute
• “Arctic Reign” L110 Weapon Package
• “Early Grave” P18 Weapon Package

Testing it ourselves, if you’re an existing PlayStation Plus member, you’ll see it appear as $0.00. You can check out the Rogue Ops Pack’s PSN Store listing to redeem it for yourself.

For those on PC or Xbox, you’ll need to pony up $19.99 to get this, which is quite pricey. If you’re on PS5, chances are you’re glad that this is free, but I doubt Xbox and PC gamers feel the same way. This continues Sony’s unannounced co-marketing deal with publisher Electronic Arts for the Battlefield franchise, which we’re assuming will continue in future installments of the game.

If you’ve yet to play Battlefield RedSec, here’s an easy way to download and install it for PC and consoles. If you’re not a fan of battle royale games, Season 1 of Battlefield 6 adds a slew of content and gameplay improvements, which you can read about in the official patch notes.

Vampire Survivors Balatro Update Shuffles Out as Patch 1.18/1.014.103

Developer poncle has released the latest major update to Vampire Survivors, and this one brings the Balatro collaboration content. Called the “Ante Chamber” DLC, console gamers will see this as Vampire Survivors update 1.18/1.014.103.

The developers call this patch as version 1.14, and this adds four characters, four weapons with their respective evolution, a new stage, and a remix of the Balatro main theme.

There’s also a new game mechanic called Survarots available in the base game that alter character stats and abilities.

Vampire Survivors Balatro Update Is Out on October 28 for Free and Adds a Slew of Content

Balatro Update Info

  • ‘Ante Chamber’ : a little expansion based on BALATRO
  • Featuring 4 characters, 4 weapons with their respective evolution, a new stage, and a remix of the Balatro main theme
  • Survarots: a new game mechanic, also available in the base game, to alter character stats and abilities

Online Co-op available now

This is a list of gameplay changes compared to a standard local co-op run:

  • Batch level up – Depending on the player count you will only see level up after all players have leveled up. So on 4 players the level up screen will only show every 4 levels.

  • DLC – You will only be able to use DLC online if every player owns that DLC. We’re retro-fitting Online into an originally single player game written in JS by a solo dev, so there are a lot of technical issues we have to move around or worry about later, one of which is the way that DLC expansions are handled.

  • Free Roam – In online you are not restricted to the same screen, you can all freely move around the stage independently. (Note: You will be pulled into a boss room if any player walks into it)

  • Spectator mode – When you die in multiplayer you can use the mouse to jump to players who are still alive. You also respawn where they are if you are spectating them.

  • Achievements – You will have the choice at the end of the run to carry over any achievements earned in that run back into your own save file.

  • Speed up – Disabled in online.

  • Pause menu – To help flow, when you pause, you do not pause for everyone else, you just get a small window of invincibility

Vampire Survivors update 1.14 including ‘Westwoods’ and ‘Mazerella” is out now

  • A gamba themed stage: Westwoods
  • A labyrinth themed stage: Mazerella
  • A new relic that lets you play Party Mode (play with up to 4 characters at the same time)
  • 2 new playable characters
  • 2 new weapons with their respective evolutions
  • 1 new Character Morph
  • 1 new PowerUp
  • 3 new Darkanas
  • Survarot game mechanic

What are Survarots?

Survarots are a new form of power creep that is currently usable by the character Secretino and all the Ante Chamber characters. They are vaguely similar to Arcana cards, but are themed after characters from Vampire Survivors and provide different types of bonuses.

Quick content guide

– To unlock the content of Ante Chamber: find the special merchant in Moongolow and buy the Joker Disk for 50k gold coins. Proceed with the chain of unlocks that starts in the new stage, Ante Chamber.

  • – Find the Magi-Stone in Westwoods and get it to Level 7 to unlock it

  • – Evolve the Magi-Stone (with Karoma’s Mana) to get 500 coins eh
  • – Survive 20 minutes in Westwoods to unlock Chula-Reh
  • – Find the Masquerade relic in Westwoods to unlock Party Mode

How to Download and Install Battlefield RedSec on PC, PS5, and Xbox

After recent rumors and speculation, Battlefield RedSec is finally here, the new battle royale from the creators of Battlefield 6. It has made a strong impression with a trailer that highlights massive destruction, matches with up to 100 players, and teams of two to four members. Best of all, it’s completely free to play.

“Drop into Fort Lyndon, a government testing ground turned warzone, where squads fight for survival in a Battle Royale only Battlefield can deliver. Experience massive-scale destruction, fast-paced squad play, and the deadliest ring in BR,” explains DICE in its official description.

How to Install Battlefield RedSec

You can download Battlefield REDSEC for free from Steam, PlayStation Store, or Xbox Store. The PS5 version is also enhanced for the PS5 Pro, offering better visuals and performance.

Additionally, if you already own Battlefield 6 and don’t want two separate games, you can merge them into one. Go to Settings > System > Install/Uninstall, then select the Battlefield RedSec download so it appears as part of the main Battlefield 6 menu.

The game includes optional microtransactions that do not affect gameplay. They only add cosmetic items for weapons and characters, and all future content will be released for free.

If you want to host private matches in Battlefield RedSec, you’ll need to buy the Battlefield Pro add-on. It includes the Season 1 Pass, 25 tier skips, and several bonuses for the duration of the season. The price is $24.99.

In the meantime, if you’re playing Battlefield 6 on PC and feel that aiming at infantry seems a bit “off,” there’s a setting change that could drastically improve your in-game performance.
