FBC: Firebreak New Update 1.006.004 Applies Balance and Economy Changes on Oct. 28

Remedy Entertainment has released version 1.6.4 for FBC: Firebreak, and this is a hotfix that applies economy and balance changes.

Console gamers will see this as FBC: Firebreak update 1.006.004, and this also adds bug fixes, trophy/achievement fixes, and more.

Read on for the complete patch notes.

FBC: Firebreak’s October 28 Update Released for Version 1.006.004/1.6.4

Overview

Hotfix 1.6.4 focuses on tuning FBC: Firebreak’s balance and improving rewards at higher Threat Levels. Corrupted Items now scale with difficulty; Trace drops have been increased, and enemy waves in Alternative Objectives at higher Threat levels are more manageable.

The update also includes fixes to achievements, localization, and several gameplay and stability issues, plus a small visual update to emitter plates in Frequency Shift.

Economy & Balance Changes:

  • The number of Corrupted Items that spawn during a Corrupted Crisis from the Crisis Board now scales with Threat level:

    • Easy – 1 Corrupted Item
    • Normal – 2 Corrupted Items
    • Hard/Extreme – 3 Corrupted Items
  • Banishing a Corrupted Item with the Neutralizer (or Black Rock Rounds) now always drops Trace.
  • Increased Trace drop chance and amounts from Powerful Enemies on higher Threat Levels:
    • Hard 20% (was 10%)
    • Extreme 40% (was 10%)
    • Trace drops now yield 1-2 Trace instead of always 1.
  • Adjusted enemy spawn rates during ‘Survive the Hiss’ and ‘Recover’ objectives on Hard and Extreme Threat Levels to be less… endless.

Achievements/Trophies:

  • The OSHA Compliant can now consistently be unlocked by completing any Corrupted Crisis on Hard or Extreme Threat Level with no one downed.

    • Note: The in-game description still lists “Corruption Level 3” as a requirement. This text issue will be fixed in a future update.

FBC: Firebreak Update 1.003

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the BOOMbox sometimes failed to be placed or appeared in the wrong location.
  • Fixed an issue where the Experimental Amplification Gun Mod could damage the player when shooting at long range
    • Note: The Mod still causes self-damage at point-blank range, as intended

  • Fixed an issue in Outbreak where barrels could be ejected from the Poison Mixer if two correct ones were inserted consecutively
  • Various crash fixes and stability improvements

Localization Fixes:

  • Added missing subtitles for the Lab Rat Voice Pack
  • Various localization improvements across multiple languages

Miscellaneous:

  • Updated the visual design on emitter plates in Frequency Shift

Already fixed in 1.6.3 (but previously undocumented):

  • Players now always start the Tutorial without equipped Perks or Gun Mods, regardless of their current loadout
  • Fixed an issue in Outbreak where repairing chemical sprayers before loading the correct barrels into the Poison Mixer could break the objective.

In other FBC: Firebreak news, Remedy has issued a “profit warning” for the game, as the studio admits it failed to meet its expectations.

Once another patch is released by Remedy, expect it here on MP1st.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows New Update 1.014.024 Introduces Corrupted Castles via Version 1.1.4

Ubisoft has released the latest major update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and this brings parkour improvements, bug fixes and Corrupted Castles as a form of new content.

Console gamers will see this as Assassin’s Creed Shadows update 1.014.024, which is a hefty download across all platforms.

Read on for everything new added today for free by the developers.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows New Update on October 28 Adds New Content for Free via Patch 1.014.024

Patch Sizes:

  • Xbox Series X|S:  9.97 GB
  • PlayStation®5:  3.44 GB
  • PC:  9.4 GB
  • Steam:  4.7 GB
  • MAC:  9 GB

Patch Highlights

Corrupted Castles

Corrupted Castles are a new Animus themed activity allowing you to revisit castles in a whole new way. Previously completed castles may now become corrupted. They will now be filled with Animus anomalies such as Corrupted Samurai Daisho that patrol with heightened aggression and altered patterns. Kill them all to unlock a Corrupted Castle’s chest that awards Gear and Gold, making each assault a meaningful experience.

Starting at level 30 and after completing at least 3 castles, up to five corrupted castles will appear on the map each season, giving you plenty of opportunities to re-engage the castles at higher levels for greater rewards.

New Parkour Update

Following our first Parkour update, we’ve listened to your feedback and we’re coming back with more! The team has made some tweaks and improvements to enhance your experience traversing Feudal Japan.

Advanced Parkour Feature

We are adding a new toggle option named “Advanced Parkour” that gives players more freedom of expression. When toggled through the gameplay menu, it removes all parkour barriers, meaning you can perform side and back ejects from any height. *Time to risk life and limb for those death-defying parkour runs!

Advanced Parkour: Side & Back Ejects

The Advanced Parkour option also brings refined control for side and back ejects. Pressing Parkour Up while jumping to the side or back will still give you the height to reach your landing spot. This has not changed since the previous parkour update.

However, if a decent landing spot is not available, you will now launch sideways or behind as far as possible, without any height restriction.

Advanced Parkour: Side Eject Down

Performing a side eject with parkour down will send you downward at a sharp angle, generally closer to your starting point, meaning you will never gain any height.

The Advance Parkour option enables subtle changes that we hope the parkour aficionados out there will enjoy!

General Parkour Improvements

Let’s now look at our overall parkour improvements (the ones that will work whether you toggle the Advanced Parkour option on/off).

Vertical Ledge Grab (Non-Standing Objects)

We are extending the Vertical Ledge Grab ability to now include Non-Standing Objects such as beams, lanterns and more. Another small, but impactful parkour tweak!

Manual Jump (Non-Standing Objects)

From the same Non-Standing Objects, we are introducing a new Manual Jump option. This enables you to refine the parkour experience, by making creative shortcuts when running along rooftops or beams.

Directional Catch Ledge

And finally, we are re-introducing a highly requested feature called the Directional Catch Ledge. Simply press towards the nearest ledge and tap the Parkour Up button to catch that ledge and prevent your character from falling.

This works from any height, and it is particularly useful when combined with the Advanced Parkour option, or when you overestimate your grapple hook dismounts!

Gold Weapons

While the Gold Katana and Long Katana introduced in TU 1.1.2 are still bound to New Game +, we’ve added NEW Gold weapons that can be earned by completing the following challenges.

  • Tanto -Complete all Legendary Sumi-e
  • Bow – Complete all Horse Archery
  • Kusarigama – Complete all Meditation
  • Naginata – Complete all Kata
  • Kanabo – Reach level 100
  • Teppo – Reach Hideout level 13

Additional Highlights

Anomalies

Since the last July update, we have increased the number of available weekly Anomalies so Projects can be progressed faster. To rebalance this change,on October 28th, we will be reducing the amount of Keys available in the Infinite Reward tier from 400 to 100 Keys.

We strongly encourage you to activate a different Project once all main rewards have been claimed, as this is a great way to unlock new content and get more Keys.

  • In the Projects menu, the Anomalies tab will now be accessible from the rewards page instead of the menu’s landing page.
  • With the release of Corrupted Castles, a related Anomaly will be available in every weekly rotation to award Data Fragments for completing this new activity.

Summary of Crashing Issues and Fixes by the develoopers are available:

  • This fix is now available for Steam players and server owners through a new ‘Experimental Branch’.
  • The full Hotfix 2 release will roll out on Steam and other platforms early next week following platform approvals.
  • Players and server hosts on the main branch or console platforms are advised to remove the following maps from rotation over the weekend: Carentan, Foy, Omaha, Utah, Remagen, Sainte-Mère-Église (SME), Stalingrad
  • The team will continue to monitor for any remaining issues, while also preparing additional asset corrections for Update 19.
  • Thank you to everyone who provided reports, feedback, and patience. Your support directly contributed to identifying and fixing the issue.

The developers want to thank the community for the crash reports, feedback and support during the investigation on the game’s issues the past few weeks.

After listening to feedback, the developers have also decided to delay the release of Update 19. This will give them additional time to ensure that it launches in the best possible state. More details on it, alongside the release date, will be shared soon and even plans for 2026.

Don’t expect any gameplay-related changes in this patch for those wondering if there are any.

Battlefield 6 Season 1 Patch Notes for Patch Version 1.000.004

  • Improved core movement and animations, including smoother landings, faster stance transitions, better vaulting behavior, and reduced “bouncing” issues on landing or spawning.
  • Reworked weapon dispersion to better align accuracy and handling with each weapon’s intended design and performance over range. These changes address cases where accuracy behaved inconsistently, such as dispersion not properly settling after sprinting, and bring overall firing behavior closer to the intended balance between precision, control, and weapon power.
  • Significant visibility and lighting improvements, with better exposure transitions, interior lighting, and reduced fog and smoke persistence.
  • Audio overhaul, adding new projectile flybys, destruction and explosion sounds, refined vehicle and weapon mixes, and improved haptic feedback across multiple interactions.
  • UI and HUD updates for clarity and consistency, including overtime indicators, end-of-round fixes, and new unlock markers for weapons and gadgets.
  • Map fixes across multiple locations, resolving spawn animations, out-of-bounds issues, misaligned assets, and general stability across Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush modes.

  • Using Sniper Rifles with any class other than Recon will no longer increase weapon spread. Instead, weapon sway will now begin during the zoom transition, maintaining balance and distinguishing Recon’s precision advantage.
  • Fixed a misalignment issue with top-mounted red dot sights.

  • Reload audio polish for several weapons.

One thing we’re hoping gets resolved, though we’re doubtful it will given DICE’s silence, is the bot situation when it comes to matchmaking outside of the US and EU.

Don’t expect this patch to resolve all the known issues, we and we wouldn’t be surprised if this brings up new bugs on its own, as is the case with most online games these days.

The Division 2 Servers Down on Oct. 28; Devs Apologize for Incorrect Bans of Legit Accounts

Agents trying to login but having issues with The Division 2 this October 28, it’s not just you. Ubisoft has pulled the servers down for maintenance, and this will take longer than usual.

Not only that, but in the developers’ quest to rid the game of cheaters, it accidentally banned a few legit accounts as well.

We’re not expecting a title update to be released alongside today’s maintenance.

The Division 2 Servers Taken Down for Maintenance on Oct. 28.

The Division 2 down aug. 26

Expect the servers to go down on Tuesday, October 28, at 9:30 am CET/4:30 am ET/1:30 am PT/4:30 pm HKT.

Instead of your usual three-hour downtime, this one will take five hours. So expect the servers to go back up at 2:30 pm CET/9:30 am ET/6:30 am PT/9:30 pm HKT.

While there is no expected update, Ubisoft will be removing the Houndsman outfit from bounty caches.

When it comes to accidental bans, the developers shared a statement about it, stating, “As we previously communicated, we are undergoing a sanction process aimed at ensuring fair gameplay for everyone. During this process, we identified technical issues that have affected some accounts unintentionally. We’re actively working to restore all accounts that were unintentionally affected due to technical issues. These restorations will continue over the coming hours.”

Massive Entertainment is asking for patience on the matter, as they continue to assess the best way to carry out the sanctions without affecting innocent players.

While we just got the Halloween update for The Division 2 last week, there are more content on the way. The “Survivors” project is still in development, and we can’t wait to know more about it. Once we know more, expect it here on MP1st.

People of Note Interview: Finding the Right Tune

Following our hands-on impression of People of Note — the upcoming turn-based musical RPG from Iridium Studios — we had the chance to sit down with the game’s creative mind, Jason Wishnov, who wears just about every hat imaginable on the project: creative director, writer, designer, programmer, and more.

Much like the game itself, Wishnov’s approach to development is a blend of passion and precision, an ambitious attempt to marry the storytelling and structure of classic RPGs with the energy and timing of a rhythm game. What started as a spark of inspiration after seeing Hamilton has since grown into a full-scale musical adventure, one that’s been years in the making.

The Spark Behind People of Note

MP1st: Tell me about the start of this game?

Jason Wishnov: I gotta be honest with you, I saw Hamilton. It was touring in L.A. and I… I came out of that and I was like oh my god, every game developer who comes outta that is gonna want to make a musical game, so I gotta hurry up and make one before anyone else does! [But] there have been a few other musical games in our time.

Musicals are so prevalent in our culture, not just Broadway [which I love], but like most Disney movies and more recently K-pop Demon Hunters. Why haven’t there been many musical games that really take advantage of that?”

Personally, I love Final Fantasy… I love classic RPGs.

MP1st: I was just thinking of the Final Fantasy VI opera scene — one of my favorite moments in all of gaming. Why don’t game developers do more of that?

Wishnov: Yeah, why don’t they? And so it’s like, “Be the change you want to see in the world,” right? And then I spent years of my life trying to make it happen.

MP1st: How long has this taken to develop, then?

Wishnov: It’s been in full development for over four years. It’s been quite a run and we’re not to the finish line yet, but it ain’t gonna be that long.

MP1st: You think within 2026?

Wishnov: Yes, absolutely within 2026. Somewhere in there.

MP1st: Did it take that long because of the team size?

Wishnov: We were about 15-18 folks at its peak, I mean, it’s kind of sloped down near the end, but… It’s a big game. It’s a long game. You’re playing a small part of it here at TGS, I can’t give you an exact hour count, but it’s a full-length JRPG. We’re not talking Persona 5 length or like a 90-hour game. Not that. But like, JRPGs are long games.

Crafting a Musical RPG

MP1st: Yes, they are, usually.

Wishnov: We’re on the lower end of that. It’s gonna be a good length, and you can see on the title screen, a little Easter egg, you go to EDM, and that’s the city of Lumina. You go to all these different cities: rock, EDM, I can’t give you the other ones just yet, but there are quite a few.

MP1st: Was it hard to work music into things, or did those ideas just come naturally?

Wishnov: Oh, was it ever! Today you heard two different tracks. In some battles, it was heavy metal, and then for the boss, it was a different one. With each track, there’s got to be a base default version, a pop version, a rock version, an EDM version, and then, when you do the Mash Up attacks, I have to have a pop-rock version, a pop-EDM version, etc., right? Every track in there had to be composed 11 different times, because of the different combinations of genres, and there are 13 battle tracks throughout the game.

There’s a pop battle track, a Celtic battle track, a rock battle track….

MP1st: Is that 143 total different battle tracks then?

Wishnov: Sir you are good at math.

MP1st: That was a risk, doing that on the fly and with a microphone. But anyway, so did you do some of that composing?

Wishnov: I did the lyrics, but not the composing. That was a group effort, but composing the musical numbers, we got our friend Jason Charles Miller, he’s an incredible vocalist — actually the vocalist in some of the Final Fantasy XIV stuff. And then for the score, we got Jimmy Hinson, AKA Big Giant Circles.

MP1st: Oh!

Wishnov: You know BGC?

MP1st: Yeah, I’ve got him on my playlist. Big Giant Circles did a great version of Opening Theme: Bombing Mission from Final Fantasy VII.

Wishnov: Oh, he’s the best. He’s done all the game music, he’s the one who made those 143 tracks. He’s on fire.

At this point, a PR manager rushed over and asked if we were discussing vocalists who perform in People of Note, but Wishnov assured the man that we were not. He clarifies that Jason Charles Miller is a vocalist in other games, but his role in People of Note is that of a composer.

Wishnov: I can’t tell ya who the voice actors are yet, but I think they did great. I love them.

MP1st: About when will they be named?

Wishnov: Some time between now and… 2080. One day before this game is playable in your home.

And with that, time was up, and I had to go play other games while Jason had to guide players like me through Iridium’s newest creation. Would like to thank him and the studio for taking their time with making the demo and speaking to us at Tokyo Game Show this Year. Cannot wait to see how People of Note ends up, and hopefully that wait isn’t too long, as the game is slated to release sometime in 2026. If you want to read up more on the game, be sure to check out our first hands-on impression!

Rumor: Next-Gen Xbox Will Run on Windows and Remove Multiplayer Paywall

Earlier this year, Microsoft officially announced that it is working with AMD on the next-generation Xbox. Recently, Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, stated that it will be a premium, high-end product, but no detailed information has been shared yet.

Previously, there were rumors that Microsoft planned to release a device that would essentially be a PC running Windows with access to various game stores. Now, these rumors have been confirmed by insider Jez Corden.

The Next Xbox Will Run on Full Windows and Feature Free Multiplayer

In a Windows Central article, Jez Corden revealed new details about the upcoming Xbox that he learned from his sources.

His report followed recent comments from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, who said that the ROG Xbox Ally shows the direction Xbox is heading. Following his comments, Corden spoke with his sources and learned that the next-gen Xbox will run on a full version of Windows instead of a special console-only operating system.

“As many of us have come to expect, the next Xbox will indeed run full-bore Windows, with a TV-optimized, console-style experience layered on top,” he said. “Microsoft decided to sideline its own Xbox handheld plans and go to market with the Xbox Ally in partnership with ASUS this year to start gathering feedback on the experience that will essentially power its next wave of “console” hardware.”

He further explained, “Where the Xbox console will differ from a traditional Windows PC is that it will feel like a traditional Xbox console out of the box. The onboarding experience will be similar to what you get today on console, and if you choose, you can remain fully inside the Xbox ecosystem, never touching Windows itself. Exiting out to Windows will be for those who want to access games traditionally not available on Xbox, including PlayStation games on Steam, mouse and keyboard-first games like League of Legends, or even classic games from GOG and the like.”

The new console will also run all games available on Xbox Series X|S, including backward-compatible titles from the original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Additionally, Xbox players currently need a Game Pass Essential (or higher) subscription to play online multiplayer games. But if the next Xbox functions like a PC, it won’t need a separate paid subscription for multiplayer access. Corden’s sources confirm that Microsoft plans to make multiplayer free on the new system.

He added, “Right now, I’m told the current plan is for the next Xbox specifically to have no paywall for multiplayer. It wouldn’t make a lick of sense for a “PC” to have paid multiplayer, particularly since it would create a strong incentive for players to simply install Steam instead of use the Xbox ecosystem on that device for online games”

Lastly, Corden added that Microsoft might rename or remove the separate PC Game Pass in the future, as the gap between console and PC is shrinking.

As for pricing, the next Xbox is expected to be more expensive than the PlayStation 6, but it may still be one of the most cost-effective ways to experience PC gaming.

In other Xbox news, the division’s president said that exclusive games are “antiquated,” which should further drive home that all Xbox games are hitting other platforms. Case in point: Halo Campaign Evolved was announced over the weekend, and it’ll be available day and date on PS5 alongside Xbox and PC.

What to Expect in Battlefield 6 Season 1

Battlefield 6 Season 1 Roadmap

Rogue Ops – Launching October 28

Maps & Modes

Blackwell Fields – Map, Support for All Combat Sizes, Land and Air Vehicles

Just as the fires of war from the single-player campaign start to cool, Pax Armata double agents launch a series of attacks on NATO targets. These strikes begin at a recently recommissioned American air base in the California badlands.

Strikepoint – Mode, Designed for 4v4 Combat

Strikepoint is an intense, small team tactical mode where a squad fights another squad across multiple rounds to capture a key objective. There is only one life each round, so make it count.

Vehicles. Weapons

APC Traverser Mark 2 – Land Vehicle

This Armored Personnel Carrier seats four: one driver, one roof gunner and two backseat passenger side gunners, serving mostly as an infantry support vehicle.

SOR-300C  – Carbine Rifle

A low rate of fire, subcompact carbine chambered in the higher damage .300 Blackout ammunition compared to the platform’s 5.56 version.

Mini Fix – Sniper Rifle

Remember the Scout Elite? Then consider this  lightweight, bolt-action sniper rifle designed for the aggressive Recon soldier a “Mini Fix” to your needs.

GGH-22 – Sidearm

A high-capacity, high fire rate and low damage pistol meant to bail out a soldier when their primary (and in the case of Assault, both their primaries) run dry.

Rail Cover & LPVO – Attachments

Available for a variety of rifles and light machine guns, these two attachments – the Rail Cover and the  Low Powered Variable Optic (LPVO) – are the first of several to drop after launch to make you rethink how you spend those attachment points.

Season 1 is spread out across multiple content drops, and there are two more slated for November 18 and December 9, whcih will also bring a slate of new content, which we’ve outlined in our Season 1 breakdown.

Battlefield 6 Season 1 Version 1.000.004 Changes

battlefield 6 known issues

Major Updates for 1.1.1.0:

Check out the complete Season 1 patch notes to see everything that got changed, and there’s a lot.

Don’t be surprised if Season 1 opens up its own can of worms whne it comes to issues, as that is known to happen with live service games. Also rumored to launch tomorrow is RedSec, Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale mode.

Hopefully, the bot matchmaking issue that has plagued gamers outside the US and EU will be sorted out in Season 1, though we’re not expecting it to given DICE hasn’t even acknowledged it.

Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots Review – FORE!

Everybody’s Golf is back! Eight years after the release of Everybody’s Golf on the PS4 in 2017, the popular arcade golf game has returned, but this time things are different. With a new developer and publisher, can the fun the series is known for be captured by a different team?

Read our Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots review to see why it might be a decent first attempt, but perhaps a bit more polish could’ve been applied so this new entry could have hit a hole-in-one.

More Platforms, More Problems

Everybody’s Golf has been exclusively on PlayStation consoles since its inception. This time around, however, Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots has expanded the series’ reach beyond Sony’s platforms. A new development studio, Hyde, has been hired, and they have developed the game for PS5, Switch, and Windows. Notably absent from the list of console support are the Xbox Series and Switch 2 platforms, neither of which is supported (though you can boot up the Switch version on Nintendo’s latest console, naturally).

Presentation-wise, Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots might actually look worse than the previous entry, Everybody’s Golf on the PS4. This might have to do with the fact that it had to run on the Nintendo Switch’s rather limited hardware. While the game supports HDR, 120 Hz panels, and even VRR, I’m unsure why these features were included in the PS5 version, given that the game doesn’t look particularly fancy to begin with. While performance is fine, with only a few stutters that mostly occur when any CPU-controlled opponent is taking their turn, overall, I’d expect a higher level of fidelity on the latest generation of consoles.

Deceptively Simple Controls

Gameplay is easy to grasp and a decent challenge to master. There are three control schemes to choose from. Players who are new to the series, or those who haven’t played in a while, will probably want to stick to the classic control scheme. With this control method, you can choose a club (though the game does usually recommend a decent option for your current shot), decide on a ball to use, and if it’s your tee shot on a hole, you may also choose where to tee off from. Once you’re set on the angle and other properties of your shot, you simply press X to start your backswing, which starts a power meter – press X again to lock in your swing’s level of power. This will cause an indicator on the meter to start moving back towards the right, where your swing began. A third press of the X button will dictate how much curve, if any, will be added to your hit, with a perfect timing of the button resulting in a perfectly straight shot. That is, until things such as wind speed and direction, as well as the slope and type of terrain your ball rests on, are factored in. Other control methods offered include a curved control meter and more advanced controls, which require more precise timing of button presses and releases.

As the options mentioned make clear, don’t let the cutesy presentation of Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots lead you into a false sense of security. The game has some serious golf chops, though this won’t come as a surprise to veterans of the franchise. It’s not a simulation, to be clear; the physics in this game aren’t really too accurate. But there are a lot of things that can affect your ball in various ways, and it’s definitely something to pay attention to.

Unlockables Galore

For instance, you can unlock different golf balls, each with various attributes. The precision ball, for example, helps land shots closer to their initial impact spot when they fall back down to the earth. Other balls may increase spin, at the cost of some other aspect such as impact. You can also unlock or purchase from the shop various consumable food items, which have effects on your playstyle for the next round of golf. These staples of the Hot Shots franchise were nailed down correctly.

To borrow a phrase from baseball, if you’re looking for something out of left field, then you’ll want to check out the new Wacky Golf options. This includes four modes: Colorful, Scramble, Survival Golf, and Boom Golf, each with its own set of rules that can drastically and often comically alter the way the game is played. This can be something as minor as granting your character an extra power shot, to something bizarre such as a stampede of wild animals knocking your opponent’s ball in a random direction. These modes feel fitting for a game that is so arcade-like, and can definitely turn Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots into a party game as it supports up to four players.

Enjoyable Story Mode

One other nice inclusion is a story mode. You can play through a graphic-novel-like story for several characters, where you learn more about them, and tee up against other characters through multiple chapters of each story. It is entertaining, though the story is not voiced aside from occasional phrases spoken by characters. Speaking of voice work, most characters have a few lines they speak throughout rounds, but unfortunately, they say them far too often, and there are so few lines that it gets extremely repetitive, extremely quickly. It doesn’t help that there are also an equally limited number of music tracks. After just a couple of rounds of golf, you’ll be tired of the audio in no time flat. As with many aspects of Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots, it feels like a general continuation of previous entries, but not quite as well done as before.

Some odd quirks were also seen during our time with Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots. The initial camera angle at the start of each round is this weird, off-to-the-side shot that doesn’t really show you where your shot is currently aimed. I’m not sure what this angle was supposed to accomplish, other than focusing on your character model a bit more intensely. A simple press of the d-pad changes to a more traditional, shot-centric angle, and then you’re off to the fairway. The CPU also seems quite unforgiving, even at Normal difficulty. I have hundreds of hours of experience in prior entries in the series, and even I occasionally struggled to keep pace with the accuracy of Normal-level opponents. Once you unlock more advanced shot options, balls, and other equipment, the challenge can subside, but it’s not the friendliest of introductions.

An Okay Start, Room for Improvement

Finally, Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots may surprise players unfamiliar with the series in its style of progression. From the start, almost everything is locked – there are only two characters to choose from, and no extra club sets, clothing, food, balls, or anything else to choose from. You have to unlock almost everything by playing the single-player mode. Unlocking absolutely everything the game has to offer will no doubt take most players dozens of hours. There are at least ten golf courses and 25 characters to unlock, so at least the sheer amount of content will be worth the effort to some. This is really nothing new for the Hot Shots golf franchise, and it feels like older arcade sports games, where if you saw someone had a full roster of characters, you knew they had done well at the game, if not outright mastered it. But it’s something to keep in mind if you’re a gamer not used to seeing an entire screen of blank character slots. Even fighting games start you out with a dozen or so characters from the jump!

Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots is a fun yet flawed return to a casual golf franchise. As a first offering from Hyde, it does feel like a continuation of the storied Everybody’s Golf series, although there are some areas in need of improvement. It might not be the best-looking golf game out there, and the list of things locked out at the start can feel overwhelming, but few other games in this genre sport the ease of play that Hot Shots offers. Yet the controls and nuanced ball movement offer a surprising amount of depth in a cute-looking arcade golf game. Grab a friend or three, hit the links, and most importantly, have fun whether you’re landing on the green, stuck in a bunker, or firing shots through the trees. Just, maybe don’t zoom in on any screenshots you may capture.

Score: 6/10

Pros

  • Familiar, brightly-colored, arcade golf, the series is known for
  • Over ten courses, dozens of characters to unlock – a good chunk of content on offer
  • Wider availability with Steam and Switch versions

Cons

  • Almost everything is locked by default
  • Graphics might be worse than the PS4 version from eight years ago
  • Very, very, very, very, very, VERY repetitive audio (both voicework and music)
  • Odd default camera angle
  • No native Switch 2 port

Report: First Look at Cancelled God of War Multiplayer Game Unveiled

Sony is clearly far from finished with the God of War franchise, with several projects currently in the works, ranging from a TV show for Prime Video to a heavily rumored 2D metroidvania that would return to Greece, drawing inspiration from games like Blasphemous. Despite this robust slate, some fans may know that another project from the saga was scrapped not too long ago.

A report at the start of the year mentioned PlayStation was cutting two live-service projects from its first-party studios. These were an unannounced game from Bend Studio (of which we revealed an early look last year) and a multiplayer God of War game that was being developed by Bluepoint Games.

This cancellation caught many by surprise, with details sparse beyond the fact that it was supposed to be a multiplayer game set in the God of War universe. Thankfully, we recently gained access to development screenshots that offer a detailed look at the game’s planned setting.

First look at Bluepoint’s God of War Multiplayer Game

The screenshots from the project that were shared with us offer a good glance at an early stage of development, showing some assets and environments that were being worked on for the title.

The first noticeable detail that we can get by looking at the gallery is that the game was clearly planned to return to a Greek setting. This is evidenced by the presence of Greek temples, classic artifacts such as pottery, and other details we will discuss later.

In addition to the temple exteriors, we can see other environments, such as caverns and interiors, that appear to have been designed to accommodate multiple players, such as an armory stocked with weapons and shields.

Another interesting detail for those familiar with the lore is the apparent inclusion of the god Hades, at least in name. We were told that Hades would have been the owner of the armory, as well as the yellow sulfur pools visible in the caverns. So if the game was meant to fit into the established canon at all, the involvement of a living Hades suggests a timeline prior to the events of God of War III. That’s if this game was meant to be canon in any way; otherwise, it could have been an anything-goes kind of thing, not connected to the main God of War continuity beyond name.

Another interesting thing to note is the clear Greek-inspired architecture evident in the buildings. But some environments look like they were plucked from God of War 2018 and Ragnarok. There appears to be a female statue holding a mask, which reminded us of the statues in the original God of War games, though we aren’t sure whether a god is associated with wearing a mask. Then there’s what appears to be statues of possibly soldiers, holding a shield and spear, something that would associate with Spartans. But their appearance also comes off as that of the Einherjar, the Norse warriors who reside in Valhalla in God of War Ragnarok. You can also see several weapons on display that have a hint of green, which reminds us a little of the weapons the Beserkers and other enemies used in 2018 and Ragnarok.

Also, considering that the size of the previously mentioned pools is shown in a comparison with a player mockup, we can only speculate on whether they would have had a specific function in terms of gameplay.

Returning to Hades’ Armory, we notice that one picture shows the place looking different, as a red corrosion seems to have taken over the area. This state is described as a “curse” on the armory, suggesting it could have inflicted a negative status effect on players inside.

In the end, though, PlayStation lacked confidence in the game’s long-term viability. This move is understandable considering the poor reception most live-service proposals receive from PS fans, especially given the fairly recent example of Concord.

Now, it is reported that Bluepoint has started work on another project, a third-person melee action game, according to job listings. The possibilities for the subject of their next project are wide, but the most hopeful Bluepoint fans are proposing a remake of the original God of War, a project many GoW enthusiasts have been requesting for years.

Given Bluepoint’s history of excellent remakes, such as Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, this would be a highly promising project. Furthermore, since we now know the studio was already working within a Greek setting, they could potentially take advantage of the work and assets already developed and transition them into a full God of War remake.
