Is Overwatch 2 More Like Overwatch 1.5? Here’s Everything That’s Changed From the Original

The Overwatch 2 beta is officially live, and players are finally getting their hands on the long anticipated sequel. First announced all the way back in 2019, outside of the repeating events and bug fixes, Blizzard have all but dropped support for the original Overwatch in an effort to focus development on Overwatch 2. So, after three long years of waiting, is Overwatch 2 worthy of being called a sequel? Or is it more of an Overwatch 1.5, as has become a running joke in the community due to the lack of perceived changes. Let’s dive in, talk about what’s changed, and see if it lives up to the hype.

Thanks to Blizzard, we managed to get some hands-on time with the Overwatch 2 PvP beta. and instead of just talking about our impressions of it, we poured our focus on talking about the major differences from the first game to the sequel.

Prepare for 5v5

The first, and perhaps biggest change to the game is the switch to 5v5. This was done partially to lower queue times, and partially to address one of the biggest complaints from the original Overwatch — the sheer amount of shield spam in the game. Naturally, the Tank role is the one that got cut and Damage and Support will still have two players per team. On surface, it looks like all they did is remove a tank, but in reality this one change completely changes how the game feels to play.

Obviously, one less tank means less protection for your team. What this results in is a much heavier focus on positioning, using cover, and securing kills. Without as many shields, it is pretty much open season for heroes like Soldier 76 and the newly released Sojourn with their full-auto assault rifles. They can pepper people with their assault rifles freely – but they’re also more vulnerable so it’s essential to get in out of cover quickly.

Blizzard have also made a concerted effort to reduce the amount of stun and CC (crowd control) abilities in the game. This means flankers have a lot more freedom to harass the back line without any worry of stuns or flashbangs. Heroes like Genji and Sombra have seen huge indirect buffs thanks to this and protecting your Support players has become even more important.

With only one tank, there’s a lot more pressure on each team’s tank player to stay alive and protect their team. Although they don’t have as many shield abilities now, Blizzard have added other ways for tanks to block damage and protect their team. Doomfist for example, who is now a tank, can use his gauntlet to block projectiles and reduce 90% of the damage. This in turn powers up his Rocket Punch, causing it to do more damage and knock enemies back further. Abilities like these still offer ways to tank for your team, but without strictly relying on barriers.

The switch to 5v5 leads to Overwatch 2 having a more chaotic, almost deathmatch-like quality to it. There is still a teamplay element, but flanking and hitting your shots is a lot more important. Ultimate ability charge has been lowered across the board, so there’s more importance placed on the neutral game rather than just stacking ultimates. If team fights in the original Overwatch were a battle of attrition, team fights in Overwatch 2 are mostly a battle of who can frag out the hardest.

New Heroes

Blizzard have added one new hero in the Overwatch 2 beta, in addition to complete reworks to several other heroes, and balance changes pretty much across the board.

Meet “Sojourn”

Sojourn, a captain of the original Overwatch team in the lore, sports a full auto assault rifle that doubles as a railgun. She also has a slide ability that allows her to leap across the battlefield and quickly get around. Sojourn plays like a counterpart to Soldier 76. While Soldier plays more of a supportive role, Sojourn’s playstyle is to chase down as many kills as possible. Doing damage with the assault rifle charges up her railgun, which can one-shot lower health heroes once it’s charged up. It’s a playstyle almost akin to something like Apex Legends, and she can be quite powerful (if you possess the good aim to maximize her potential).

Hero Reworks:

Several heroes have also seen major reworks. Here’s a brief rundown.

Orisa:

  • Primary fire – Now has infinite ammo with an overheat mechanic.
  • Energy Javelin – New ability where Orisa throws a spear forward, dealing damage and knocking enemies back.
  • Javelin Spin – New ability where Orisa rapidly spins her spear in front of her, destroying projectiles and knocking back any enemies she comes in contact with.
  • Terra Surge – New Ultimate ability where Orisa pulls in nearby enemies and charges up an energy wave that deals damage.

Doomfist:

  • Moved to Tank role.
  • Rocket Punch damage has been significantly reduced, but it now has added knockback.
  • Seismic Slam now launches Doomfist high into the air, slamming the ground when he comes in contact with it.
  • Power Block – New ability that blocks projectiles, causing Doomfist’s gauntlet to become supercharged for added damage and travel distance.

Bastion:

  • Self-Repair ability removed.
  • A-36 Tactical Grenade – New ability which launches a sticky grenade that sticks to players or walls.
  • Configuration: Assault – Can now switch to tank mode on cooldown. Bastion can move in this form now and has infinite ammo. Ability lasts 6 seconds.
  • Configuration: Artillery – New Ultimate Ability that turns Bastion into an artillery launcher.

Aside from these major reworks, most heroes have seen some slight changes here or there. The tanks have all had their health pools increased to account for the fact that there’s only one per team now. Sombra’s hack now works differently and can be triggered while she’s invisible. Mei can no longer completely freeze enemies – her spray ability only slows them down but deals more damage to account for it. And heroes like McCree and Brigitte have had their flashbang and stun abilities removed in an effort to reduce the amount of CC abilities in the game.

All in all, the wide roster of characters have mostly been changed in one way or another. If you’ve played the original Overwatch, it’s going to take some time to completely re-learn the abilities.

New Maps and Modes

In total, four new maps have been added in the Overwatch 2 beta. Two of them are reserved for the all new ‘Push’ mode, a tug-of-war style mode where each team fights to escort a robot farther than their opponent.  All of the Overwatch 1 maps return as well, and most of them have seen some changes. For some, it’s a simple cosmetic reworks like changing the time of day. Although it’s small, this does a lot to change the feel of the map. Blizzard have also added new pieces of cover to certain maps to account for the fact that there’s one less tank per team now.

Colloseo (Push):

Set in Rome, this Push map features tons of flanking routes along with one main corridor for fighting over the robot.

New Queen Street (Push):

The second Push map New Queen Street is set in Toronto. It has a more sparse layout with many different angles of attack.

Circuit Royal (Escort):

This is a more traditional Escort map and one that’s visually striking with the bright lights of futuristic Monte Carlo at night.

Midtown (Hybrid):

The New York City map has a capture zone for the first point, followed by a payload escort. Point 1 features sweeping skyscrapers while the escort route is set in an NYC subway station.

New Scoreboard and UI and Ping Feature

Finally, the UI has seen some modifications including a completely revamped scoreboard.  The original Overwatch was arguably one of the games that popularized the hiding of a player’s K/D in favor of a more general overview of their performance. Blizzard have done away with that in the Overwatch 2 beta and now include a more traditional scoreboard.

The UI as a whole looks a bit cleaner and more modern now too.

Ping system

The final major new addition in the Overwatch 2 beta is the new ping system. You can tag an enemy’s location for your entire team to see, as well as coordinate things like attacking and defending if you don’t have a mic.

Audio and Visual Upgrades

Overwatch 2 also has seen some graphical and sound upgrades. While relatively minor, the lighting and shadows have definitely improved thanks to the updated engine. Some of the heroes have seen cosmetic changes as well.

The audio engine has seen some big improvements as well. Heroes like Soldier 76 and Widowmaker have boomier, more realistic sounding weapons with echo now. Here’s an example:

Final Impressions:

So, is Overwatch 2 more like Overwatch 1.5? In its current state.. yes. However, it’s important to note though that a huge pillar of the sequel is still unreleased in the PvE campaign mode. And there will almost certainly be more new multiplayer content like heroes, maps, and modes in the final release, or in future betas. At its core though, right now this feels like a huge reset button on the original Overwatch.

The new 5v5 format definitely takes some getting used to and leads to a faster-paced, more damage-focused style of gameplay. Flanking is heavily rewarded and can make a Support player’s life a living hell if they aren’t getting any backup. On the other hand, playing as a damage hero is a lot more engaging and a good DPS player can easily carry a game. As a tank player, there’s a lot more riding on your success given that there are no other tanks to back you up. Orisa’s rework feels great and is a lot of fun to play, but it feels like heroes like Reinhardt and Winston have been left behind in this new faster paced meta. There is definitely more balancing to be done across the board and I’m sure Blizzard is hard at work with it as we speak.

Hardcore Overwatch fans have long asked Blizzard to address the amount of shields and stun abilities in the game, and the Overwatch team have definitely succeeded on that front. There is now significantly less time spent shooting at shields, and more time spent dueling other players. As a result though, it feels like some of the strategy and teamplay that made Overwatch unique has been lost. On the other hand, I think many people will prefer the more chaotic style of gameplay.

I think the true test of Overwatch 2’s success will be how well Blizzard supports it after launch. After a three-year drought, Blizzard have promised a faster cadence of new content and balance patches. There are also rumors of a battle pass system or free-to-play model being introduced for the multiplayer. Thankfully, Blizzard have already confirmed that the PvP component will be free to all owners of the original Overwatch. Going completely free-to-play would do a lot to bring in new players though, and could be the huge influx of players Overwatch needs after such a long break.

In the end, if you weren’t a fan of the original, the gameplay changes in Overwatch 2 probably won’t do enough to change your mind. Most of these changes seem specifically geared to address some of the criticisms from the pro scene and longtime players. Do these changes make for a better gameplay experience? Yes and no. But after such a long drought it feels good to have any new Overwatch content at all. There are still some lingering issues Blizzard will have to address, such as the excruciatingly long queue times – but with all of this new content and more, Blizzard will have to win back the trust of the Overwatch community first.

Call of Duty Vanguard Failure Due to WWII Setting, Says Activision

In its annual report to investors, COD publisher Activision pins the failure of Call of Duty Vanguard to its WWII setting and its lack of ‘innovation.’ The newest entry in the series has made financial forecasts for the company miss the mark by $300 million, and all of this in the midst of a sexual harrassment lawsuit and multiple scandals involving its highest tiers of management.

Here’s the full statement lifted straight from the investors report:

While Call of Duty remains one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time, our 2021 premium release didn’t meet our expectations, we believe primarily due to our own execution. The game’s World War II setting didn’t resonate with some of our community and we didn’t deliver as much innovation in the premium game as we would have liked. We are certainly addressing both of these issues with the 2022 launch.

It’s hard to say if gamers are indeed fed up as a whole on the WWII setting, but a lot can also be said on the fact that the failure of Call of Duty Vanguard can be attributed to when it was released. Just recently, Activision settled its sexual harrassment lawsuit after a long and highly-publicized legal battle with many of the victims, and after tons of reports and allegations of abuse and crunch throughout the whole company.

If there is a silver lining for Call of Duty fans, it lays in the possibility that the Microsoft buyout (which is still pending) will bring about some much needed changes to the series as a whole. Activision has come out on record and stated that despite the failings of Vanguard, we will still see premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences next year and beyond, and only time will tell if they’ll be able to avoid the pitfalls of its predecessor.

In case you missed it, Modern Warfare 2 was recently confirmed, and we listed the top 10 things we want to see (and not see) in multiplayer.

Report: Guillemot Family Looking to Partner With Private Equity Firm for Ubisoft Acquisition

After rumors of a buyout due to tanking stocks and stalled developments, another report has surfaced stating that the Guillemot family is looking to partner with a private equity firm to acquire Ubisoft and prevent a hostile takeover in the process. The Guillemot family, for those unfamiliar, are the founders of Ubisoft, with Yves Guillemot currently serving as CEO and chairman of the French publisher.

This new report comes from Seeking Alpha, where it pins the Ubisoft stock raise of 10 percent yesterday to the news that the Guillemot family is looking for a partner for the potential buyout. The Guillemot family owns 15.9% of the company’s shares and 22.3% of the net voting shares, and are looking to retain control amidst a possible hostile takeover from other strategic buyers.

This new report also validates Bloomberg’s earlier reports of the Ubisoft acquisition, which states that the company is looking into private equity firms to sell the publisher. If it ever pulls through, expect another huge buyout figure, one that is comparable to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year.

All of this said, as this is still unconfirmed, take everything with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.

Deep Rock Galactic Update 1.12 Fires Out for Season 2 This May 4

Ghost Ship has deployed Deep Rock Galactic update 1.12 on all platforms today, and this is for Season 2! This is the second patch released for the game today, which doesn’t happen often. Based on the dev’s announcement, and given Season 2 is due to start on consoles tomorrow, there seemed to be a minor hiccup that transpired, which kicked off Season 2 a day early.

Deep Rock Galactic Update 1.12 Patch Notes | Deep Rock Galactic Season 2 Patch Notes:

SEASON EVENT: RIVAL SIGNAL

—————————-
Rivals are setting up new communications equipment, which must be shut down! In the all-new RIVAL SIGNAL Season Event, you must interrupt the operation of the Rival Communications Router, hack its Antenna Nodes and shut it down before the timer runs out and the entire thing discharges a lethal energy blast! Timing and precision will be of the essence if you want to obtain the Data Cell stored inside the Router!

NEW WARNING: RIVAL PRESENCE

—————————-
Hordes of Rival robots are clustering in the caves, seemingly just waiting to spring on anything carrying the DRG insignia. Some will likely see this as a welcome distraction from the usual teeth and claws of the Glyphids, but Management still doesn’t recommend underestimating these cybertronic abominations.

NEW ENEMY: RIVAL NEMESIS

—————————-
ScanCom has been picking up new readings in the caves, and disturbing rumours have started trickling in from the surface. Our Rivals have unleashed something down there, something specifically designed to lure you in, hunt you down, and terminate you with extreme prejudice. Beware, Miners – the Rival Nemesis is on the prowl.

NEW PERFORMANCE PASS

—————————-
By popular request we have roughly doubled the amount of Season Event Bonuses to collect by completing the various Season Events down in the caves! Bonuses for everyone!

Also, we’ve added a brand new Season Challenge, where you have to complete missions with the RIVAL PRESENCE WARNING, paying out phat stacks of Performance Points and precious Scrip.

All of that of course results in rewards – both from simply gaining levels in the Performance Pass, as well as spending Scrip in the Cosmetic Tree. We got some good stuff for you – Resource Caches, Beards, Paintjobs, Helmets, and yet another full set of Weapon Frameworks for all guns.

As always all elements of the Performance Pass are completely free and any rewards you were unable to claim in the previous season can be found in Cargo Crates, Lost Packs, Cosmetic Cores, and The Shop.

NEW SECONDARY WEAPONS

—————————-

NISHANKA BOLTSHARK X-80

The Scout has picked up this extremely versatile crossbow designed for large game, built especially to fire a wide selection of projectiles. Acid-bolts, electric bolts, fire bolts, triple bolts, you name it. It is time to go hunting.

SHARD DIFFRACTOR

Meanwhile, the Engineer has come up with the SHARD DIFFRACTOR. To keep it from detonating like a thousand pounds of TNT, the thing is limited to short, controlled bursts – but don’t let that depress you: It’s powered by a 12-pound chunk of Ommoran Heartstone, and is able to vomit forth beams of raw energy as thick as your leg, reducing anything in its path to a mound of cinders.

ARMSKORE COIL GUN

The Gunner gets the ARMSKORE COIL GUN – a hand-carryable, fully-fledged electromagnetic accelerator. It fires solid tungsten spheres with enough force to punch clean through solid rock. The only limit to this pocket-sized war crime is the battery pack – which is sizable.

COLETTE WAVE COOKER

And finally, the Driller has been given the COLETTE WAVE COOKER. An ingenious mix of lab equipment and kitchen utensil, the Wave Cooker does exactly what its name implies: Point it at something organic, and watch it cook from the inside out until it bursts in a gout of viscous fluids. Recipe book not included.

PHAZYONITE

—————————-
From now on, you can choose to pay for Cosmetics with Phazyonite instead of Credits and Minerals, in case you are saving up for specific upgrades.

Phazyonite can be found in the caves of Hoxxes as you go, and you will also earn it from the newly implemented Cosmetic Mastery system in the Shop.

How does that work? Simple: Increase your Cosmetic Mastery by buying stuff.

And not to worry, shoppers – the system will work retroactively. Everything you’ve already bought will be counted towards your Cosmetic Mastery progression.

Our goal is for players to buy cosmetics without sacrificing beer, upgrades and promotions. We hope it helps, especially with many of the previous season’s cosmetics landing in the shop. We have no plans for monetizing this in any way.

A-B CHOICE ON FORGE MASTERY REWARDS

—————————-
Previously, Forge Mastery granted completely random Infused Matrix Cores. Now, you’ll be given a choice – two Character Classes are picked at random, you pick which of them get the Core. Some choice is better than no choice, as they say.

MEDICAL GOWN

—————————-
For those dwarves returning unsuccessfully from missions, we have finally received a shipment of medical gowns. For the sake of overall morale and sanity, we urge all employees to keep their underwear on when waking up in one of these.

FSR AND DLSS SUPPORT

—————————-
You can now enable FSR or DLSS in-game if you have a graphics card that supports it. This tech should improve your framerate quite a bit if you’re playing on higher resolutions, resulting in much smoother mining.

Apex Legends Ranked Play Changes Incoming With Saviors Update, Here’s the Breakdown

Respawn is shaking up Ranked Play in Apex Legends with the start of the Saviors title update incoming next week! According to the studio, this is the “first of several steps” they are taking to improved Ranked for everyone. Read on for the Apex Legends Ranked Play changes (and there’s a LOT).

Apex Legends Ranked Play Changes Breakdown (Incoming With Saviors Title Update on May 10):

Greetings, we are excited to share updates to Apex legends Ranked in Saviors!

Apex Legends’ battle royale Ranked queue began in Season 2, and since then, the player base has grown and matured significantly. In turn, the Ranked experience needs to evolve, and the launch of Saviors introduces the first of several steps we are taking to improve Ranked for everyone.

The current Ranked goals revolve around two main pillars:

  • Teamplay for Victory
  • Accurate Skill & Better Competition

We are making a large number of changes that focus around these two core pillars, with the outcome that:

  • Players will focus on playing as a team, and playing for the win.
  • RP will be a more accurate representation of your overall game skill.

TEAMPLAY FOR VICTORY

Play for the Team

At Apex Legends’ core is a team-based game, so players should be rewarded at the team level. Now everyone on a team will receive some RP when one of them gets a kill.

Play for the Win

Apex Legends is a battle royale. Survival is the primary objective, and kills are what gets you there. Placing any limits on kills rewards puts an unintended emphasis and pressure on hitting these limits. So we are taking a different approach:

REMOVED: Kill RP Cap is removed

NEW: Base value of each kill is worth increasingly less, down to a minimum

Assist Rules

The current assist timer of 10 seconds is too short, allowing for simple retreats to break the timer. This creates unnecessary tension and is counterproductive to survival and winning the game.

CHANGE: Assist Timer: 10 seconds →   15 seconds

Following up on the revive assist marker change last in Defiance, we are also adding a ‘refresh’ to assist timer when a player is revived. With this change, if an enemy you helped knock is revived and immediately downed again by one of your allies, you’ll still be eligible for an assist credit.

NEW: Assist Timers are refreshed upon player’s revival

ACCURATE SKILL & BETTER COMPETITION

Tier Demotions

Your ranking is important and should be accurate when it comes to representing your current skill. Having the ability to demote out of a tier will allow a player’s skill to be reflected with more precision. In Saviors, we are introducing tier demotions with the goal of addressing the current struggle some players experience when they get promoted to a new tier but cannot climb higher in the ranks.

Demotions will create a better true distribution of skills across the ladder. Players will get demotion protection for three games. Once demotion protection is exhausted, dropping below the tier threshold will trigger a demotion penalty, dropping the player halfway down the previous division.  (I.e. Masters → 50% of Diamond 1)

Similar to Ranked Arenas, rewards will be granted based on the highest RP threshold achieved.

MODIFIED: Tier Demotion Protection available up to 3 games lost after promotion into a higher tier

NEW: Players can demote out of a tier, halfway down to the previous division. (Masters → 50% of Diamond 1)

NEW: 100 RP Tier Promotion Bonus

Entry Cost Adjustments

There are two types of players within a tier: those who can consistently gain RP, and those who cannot. To smooth out this skill gap, we are adjusting entry costs across all divisions. Additionally, we are adding new entry cost breakpoints within the Master+ tiers to further filter for skill.

Modified: Entry cost increases on promotion into a new division

NEW: Masters+ entry costs further increase with total RP (5 RP every 1000 RP beyond Master Threshold up to 175 RP)

Division
4 3 2 1
Bronze 15 18 21 24
Silver 27 30 33 36
Gold 39 42 45 48
Platinum 51 54 57 60
Diamond 63 66 69 72
Master 75

Kill RP

We simplified and adjusted the Per Kill RP mechanics, and are now directly presenting the base kill values by placements.

In a battle royale, placing worse than the bottom half of the lobby is losing. Placements and kills are both important metrics in Ranked. Having kills without the placement should not constitute a success. In response, we have pulled down Kill RP gains for placing worse than 10th. Players placed in this region are likely to lose RP.

At the same time, having good placements with little to no kills will cause players to miss out on a majority of their RP rewards coming from the previously mentioned Kill RP changes.

Kill/Assist RP

Kill Tier Differences

With the introduction of scaling entry costs and kill participations, we are softening the skill based RP modifiers on kills.

Modified: Killing a lower tier player grants slightly less reduced RP

Tier Differences S12 Kill Modifier S13 Kill Modifier
-3 30% 30%
-2 50% 70%
-1 80% 100%
0 100% 100%
1 120% 100%
2 150% 150%
3 200% 200%

Introductory Tier

Bronze was the only tier without an entry cost. Any invested player would eventually climb out of it. So we are introducing a new tier: Rookie. This tier will sit below Bronze to act as a proper one time only, introductory tier to Ranked, and will not have any Ranked rewards associated with it. Existing players are unaffected by the introduction of the Rookie Tier, and can not be demoted into it, and likewise will not be reset into it on new splits or seasons.

NEW: Introductory ‘Rookie’ tier

MODIFIED: Bronze now has entry costs

RP Thresholds

To account for the increased influx of RP, we are adjusting RP thresholds for each tier and division to keep the difficulty and effort to achieve them relatively the same.

Modified: RP thresholds for all tiers and division adjusted. Length of each division is increased by 200RP

3rd Party Kill Stealing Fix

We have fixed a long standing issue where kill credits were unintentionally transferred from eliminated teams. Previously, when Team A downs players from Team B, and Team A is subsequently eliminated, players from any team can misappropriate these downed players on Team B for kill credits by executing them, regardless of their involvement in the initial conflict. This issue has been fixed and these kills are now properly voided. Kills are earned, not given.

CONCLUSION

This update is the first step in our ongoing journey to evolve and improve the Ranked experience. We’re excited for you all to get a chance to play with these changes when Saviors launches on May 10th.

Thank you for reading, and playing!

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Check out the reveal of the upcoming legend, Newcastle, right here.

AEW: Fight Forever New Wrestlers Confirmed to Be in the Game Revealed; Kris Statlander Featured in New Video

It’s been a while since the last news about the AEW: Fight Forever video game, but today we now know more wrestlers that will be in the game. It appears as if the roster will have many of the wrestling company’s top stars so far. Courtesy of Fightful Select, here are some of the AEW: Fight Forever new wresstlers confirmed to be in the game. There are 11 wrestlers revealed so far, wich we’ve listed below..

AEW: Fight Forever New Wrestlers Confirmed as of May 4, 2022:

• Kenny Omega
• Chris Jericho
• Hikaru Shida
• Darby Allin
• Jungle Boy
• Owen Hart
• Sting
• CM Punk
• Bryan Danielson
• Adam Cole
• Ruby Soho

It’s worth noting this will be the first time in a long while that Owen Hart will be in a wrestling video game. The last video game he appeared in was the 1998 release of WWF: Warzone back in the PSOne and N64 era. After his untimely death in 1999, his widow Martha Hart refused to put his likeness in any WWE video game since then.

The report also says Kenny Omega is hoping to add 50 wrestlers into the full game. While many of the top stars will be in the game, this sadly means many undercard wrestlers won’t make the roster.

In addition to that, a new development update video has been released, and this one features Kris Statlander, and what she’ll look like in-game!

This AEW console game dev update features a first look at the character model & gameplay footage of Kris Statlander. The upcoming AEW console game is currently being developed by the critically-acclaimed Yuke’s Co Ltd.

AEW: Fight Forever is rumored to be released in September 2022 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Deep Rock Galactic Update 1.11 Released for Bug Fixes This May 4 (Update)

Ghost Ship Games has fired out the Deep Rock Galactic update 1.11 patch today, and this patch is out on all last-gen and next-gen platforms! This patch includes fixes for a few bugs  regarding paint jobs and more! Read on for the Deep Rock Galactic update new patch notes.

Deep Rock Galactic 1.11 Patch Notes | Deep Rock Galactic Update New Patch Notes:

Update: Ghost Ship has announced that Season 2 is now live for PlayStation gamers, with Xbox getting it within the day! Originally set to go out tomorrow, May 5, it seems a bug has caused Season 2 to start early for console gamers.

Here are some of the stuff confirmed for Season 2 Escalation (via Steam):

Deep Rock Galactic Update 1.000.011 Out for Small Hotfix This May 4 (Update)

Ghost Ship Games has released the Deep Rock Galactic update 1.000.011 patch today, and this one is for a small hotfix regarding paint jobs and more! Check out the full Deep Rock Galactic May 4 update patch notes below.

Deep Rock Galactic 1.000.011 Patch Notes | Deep Rock Galactic May 4 Update Patch Notes:

Update: Ghost Ship has announced that Season 2 is now live for PlayStation gamers, with Xbox getting it within the day! Originally set to go out tomorrow, May 5, it seems a bug has caused Season 2 to start early for console gamers.

Here are some of the stuff confirmed for Season 2 Escalation (via Steam):

ROBOT REBELLION DLC

—————————-

OPTIONAL/REQUIRED BY ALL TAGS FOR SERVER MODS
Mods can now be tagged as either optional or Requiredbyall on mod.io.Optional tag if for mods that only need to be installed and enabled by the server’s host in order to work.
RequiredByAll tag is for a mod that requires all players to have the mod enabled and installed in order for it to work.
UNTAGGED MODS ARE BY DEFAULT OPTIONAL

COD Warzone May 4 Update Brings Weapon Changes & More, Here’s the Patch Notes

Raven Software has released the COD Warzone May 4 update patch notes, and this one lists a plethora of new weapon changes and more! It’s also worth noting that this is a server-side, which means that it doesn’t require any downloads. Check out the full patch notes below.

COD Warzone May 4 Update Patch Notes:

GAMEPLAY

Adjustments

  • Armored Truck
    • Health
      • Health and Resistances decreased to be in-line but still greater than the Cargo Truck.
    • Turret
      • Damage decreased by 40%.

It’s become clear since its return to the Warzone, that the Armored truck has become a great asset to any team. However, its overwhelming presence has felt oppressive to engage against. We’re bringing it in line with other Vehicles, while still retaining its role as a power-house.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue preventing Players using an Xbox Live Silver Account from accessing Warzone.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players using a controller to encounter issues while navigating the Buy Station interface.
  • Fixed an issue causing the AMP63 (BOCW) Unlock Challenge to not track.
  • Fixed an issue causing the cape elements on the following skins to obscure Player vision:
    • “Ancestral Spirit” Daniel Skin (Battle Pass Tier 100)
    • “Astrakhan” Padmavati Skin
  • Fixed an issue causing the following Weapons to not gain Weapon XP:
    • KG M40 (VG)
    • Volkssturmgewehr (VG)
    • AS44 (VG)
    • NZ-41 (VG)
    • Gorenko Anti-Tank Rifle (VG)

WEAPONS

Weapon Adjustments

Vanguard Weapons have been struggling to perform on par with their peers since they dropped into the Warzone. This update is laying the groundwork to resolve that. Engagement distances have only increased since the transition to Caldera. More skirmishes are taking place within minimum damage ranges. As a result of this, Weapons that have low maximum damage ranges or low minimum damage have become largely inviable. Unfortunately for Vanguard Weapons, this was often the case. Below you will find a myriad of changes aimed at injecting some budding competition into the upper echelon of Warzone Weaponry.

While the Nikita AVT (VG) has been performing moderately well, we felt that its Magazine Capacity and Minimum Damage was holding it back from becoming the sniper support allstar it was destined to become. LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga New DLC Packs Announced for Star Wars Day

Today we’re celebrating May the 4th, and TT Games is celebrating Star Wars Day with two LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga new DLC packs for players to enjoy. These new DLCs are character packs that contain new characters from two prominent series in the Star Wars universe. Check out the official DLC trailer below.

Here are some more details on these new DLC packs for LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga:

Warner Bros. Games today celebrates Star Wars™ Day with the launch of two new DLC (downloadable content) packs for LEGO® Star Wars™: The Skywalker Saga – “The Mandalorian™” Season 2 and “Star Wars: The Bad Batch™” Character Packs. The Mandalorian Season 2 Character Pack will include Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett™, Bo Katan, Fennec Shand and Moff Gideon. “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” Character Pack will include Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair, and Echo.

At the time of writing, these new DLC packs are currently unlisted on Steam, but it will most likely drop for all platforms within the day. You can purchase DLC packs separately, or grab all of them via a single purchase with the Character Collection Pack.

Check out our review of LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga here, where Avery writes, “Whether you like Star Wars, LEGOs, or video games in general, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a must-play in 2022. There’s an insane amount of content, I can’t emphasize how massive this game is. The puzzles aren’t too difficult to solve, while also not being too easy; I never felt that I was wasting my time playing through a level. And even if you found yourself stuck in an area or just in need of general help with the game, there’s an orange and blue protocol droid named H1-NT that will provide you with helpful information on your journey. The Skywalker Saga also has an extensive skills tree that rivals any action RPG out there. The game mechanics work extremely well, especially when playing flying missions; it’s always a crapshoot when it comes to aerial combat, but operating an X-Wing or the Millennium Falcon in The Skywalker Saga feels amazing. From top to bottom, The Skywalker Saga is a near-perfect game that checks all the boxes for a Star Wars fan and is one of the best games of the year.”

Report: Square Enix Lost $200 Million on Marvel’s Avengers & Guardians of the Galaxy Resulting in Embracer Sale

A few days ago, Square Enix rocked the gaming industry with the news that they have sold off Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, Square Enix Montreal, and a bunch of IPs for $300 million to Embracer Group, the parent company of THQ Nordic. While it does not make a ton of sense then, a new report has surfaced that goes to suggest that the sale may be Square Enix trying to recoup its losses, as the publisher has reportedly lost $200 million on its two Marvel games: Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

The report comes from Metro, where senior MST Financial analyst David Gibson states that the reason Square Enix sold off the studios and its IPs were due to its two prominent Marvel games, Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, losing out a whopping $200 million. While this report is still unconfirmed, it does lend credence to the overall sale and would explain why Square Enix sold off a huge chunk of its western-based properties.

This does not discount the fact that Embracer got a pretty sweet deal in the end; the company has been pursuing a ton of acquisitions for quite some time now, and with a lot of new IPs under their belt including Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, Thief, Sleeping Dogs, and more, we might just see new entries pop up for these beloved yet somewhat forgotten series and franchises.

As is the case with these unconfirmed reports, take this one with a grain of salt until officially confirmed, although given the probable context of the sale we may never actually have confirmation from Square Enix if this is indeed the reason why they sold off their studios.

Sniper Elite 5 Features Trailer Fires Off on Its Campaign, Gunplay, and More

Rebellion has released a new Sniper Elite 5 features trailer, showcasing the many aspects of the game that have been heavily improved or outright new for the long-running series. With over a minute of in-game footage, this new trailer is a great starter for anyone looking forward to the game’s launch later this month, so check it out below.

Here’s a rundown of the key features making its way to Sniper Elite 5:

The game’s expansive campaign is set in France in 1944 and centers around the events of D-Day. Elite marksman Karl Fairburne uncovers a Nazi plot called Operation Kraken that could turn the tide of the war back in their favor. Working in the shadows behind enemy lines, Karl has to use all the skills at his disposal to destroy Operation Kraken and the mastermind behind it Abelard Möller. The full Campaign is playable in two-player online co-op, allowing players to team up as they fight the Axis force and track down Möller.
However, human players can also try to thwart Karl’s progress as the new Invasion Mode allows an opposing player to join your game as an Axis Sniper tasked with hunting Karl down and taking him out. The invading player can make use of AI Axis soldiers to help them find Karl’s location, creating a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. Meanwhile, Karl can utilize phones placed within the level to gather intel on the invader and their location. Invasion Mode can be toggled on/off in the game menu.
Multiplayer is not restricted to the campaign as a suite of tense multiplayer combat modes are also available. Complete with all format crossplay, Sniper Elite 5’s multiplayer features four core game modes each with a host of customization options, allowing players to create their own matches.
The Sniper Elite franchise has always been recognized for its advanced gun physics and this has been elevated even further for Sniper Elite 5. With weaponry painstaking recreated from real-world references to ensure maximum authenticity, the guns in Sniper Elite 5 contain a meticulous level of detail and all have their own unique feel and characteristics to the player.
The series defining Kill Cam has also been elevated. Clinical kills with pistols and SMG will now trigger the Kill Cam in addition to rifle and takedown kills. Bullets will ricochet off bone, causing increased devastation which is shown to the player in even more gory detail than ever before.
Weapon customization has also been greatly enhanced with players now able to change a weapon’s stock, magazines, receiver, barrel, scopes and iron sights as well as its materials. This allows every player to create a suite of weapons that perfectly suit their individual playstyle as well as the mission that they are undertaking. Customization options are unlocked in the game by discovering workbenches that are hidden within the maps. At these benches, players can then customize their loadout meaning that they can adapt their playstyle and approach on the fly without having to restart a mission.
New traversal mechanics have unlocked even more playstyle options. The routes you take can define if you are stealthy and stay in the shadows or go loud and take the fight to the enemies head-on. The ability to climb vines, for example, allows Karl to reach new areas of the map giving him sneaky routes, great vantage points and access to secret locations further adding to each mission’s replayability.
Sniper Elite 5 is releasing on Thursday, May 26, 2022, on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PS4 & PS5, Epic, Steam and the Windows Store. The game will have pre-order bonuses, as well as a Deluxe Edition that contains additional content for Season One. In case you missed it, check out a showcase of the many weapons of Sniper Elite 5 here.
