Hunt Showdown Update 1.45 Patch Notes; Fires Out for Fixes This February 8

Crytek has released the Hunt Showdown update 1.45 for consoles, which is for big Update 1.7.2 patch that was released last week on PC! Read on for the full Hunt Showdown February 8 patch notes, and we’ve included the fixes rolled out by Crytek a few days ago for issues brought on by Update 1.7.2.

Hunt Showdown Update 1.45 Patch Notes | Hunt Showdown February 8 Patch Notes:

Please note, we have introduced a number of tentative fixes to help with performance issues, missing geometry in compounds and a number of other fixes that are not directly noted below. Please let us know if you continue to experience issues around this.

Dark Tribute

Mr. Orwell Chary is looking into ways to give the AHA advantage in the Hunt and is looking for donations from only the most experienced Hunters. Every day after finishing their missions, players will gain bloodline XP that will make them eligible to give tribute. Once certain thresholds are met, offer blood for Mr. Chary’s Dark Tribute and be reimbursed* with one of many rewards including: Hunt Dollars, Blood Bonds, Hunter slot, Bloodline XP, Equipment, Upgrade points, Legendary item instance, Legendary item unlock, or the exclusive Dark Tribute Hunter Bad Hand: Bad at faro and worse at poker, John Robertson was determined to find glory and gold at a card table. But he was fated to become the Revenant, and he lived as he died – making the best of a bad hand.

There are 4 thresholds of XP that the player needs to reach:

  • Players can “offer the blood” after earning 2500 XP
  • Players can “offer the blood” after earning 5000 XP
  • Players can “offer the blood” after earning 7000 XP
  • Players can “offer the blood” after earning 10000 XP or by paying 100 BBs

Players who do not have enough experience to reach the final threshold may make a deal with Mr. Chary by paying him Blood Bonds but remember: Players can only do the final Tribute after reaching the first 3 thresholds.

Progression resets every 24h. If the player used and unlocked all attempts, they can’t offer blood until the next day, when clock “resets”.

(*the XP used to offer blood will still be added to your bloodline progression as normal)

First Bounty Extraction bonus

With this update, we are bringing a new feature called “First Bounty Extraction Bonus”. This means that players can earn bonus XP and Hunt dollars for their first successful bounty extraction with each hunter. The bonus applied is as follows:

  • +15% Hunter XP.
  • +20% Hunt Dollars.

This bonus is a fixed percentage that will be added to the total XP and Hunt Dollars earned during the first mission where you successfully extract with the bounty.

This reward is not limited to once per day, but once per Hunter each day. Whether it is an existing hunter or a new recruit, the first successful bounty extraction with each hunter in a given day will grant this bonus.

Successfully extracting from a mission with the Bounty at least once per day for 5 days will grant additional rewards. Players will earn 25BB from this 5-day streak. Once completed, the progress will reset, and you can begin your streak again. However, if you miss a day, the progress will reset.

New Weapon Variants

Berthier Mle 92 Deadeye

Like other deadeye variants this weapon has been modified with a side mounted Deadeye scope making it easier to hit those longer-range shots. This new variant can also be paired with the Deadeye Scopesmith trait.

Scottfield Model 3 Spitfire

This innovative design includes an addition to the trigger guard in the form of an extra finger hold. This grip provides an extra point of leverage, making it much easier to cock the hammer of the weapon. The barrel has also been shortened to reduce weight which allows for even better ergonomics while the shooter is charging the weapon.

This means the Rate of Fire is significantly higher than the Base Scottfield Model 3, however the shortened barrel reduces the weight at the front of the weapon which results in higher recoil and a decrease in hip fire accuracy. Since the left hand is used to fan the weapon, the extra finger handle does not affect the rate of fire when fanning this weapon.

Scottfield Model 3 Precision

This version of the Scottfield adds a stock to the pistol grip, making a much more stable platform for shooting. This drastically reduces the recoil and increases the overall accuracy of the weapon. This addition also provides a more comfortable holding position, making it slight easier to prepare, resulting in a decrease in time between shots.

Scottfield Model 3 Swift

The top break action of the Scottfield already provides an increase to reload speeds in comparison to other revolvers in the arsenal. The addition of a speed loader mechanism means that the reload is even faster with the Model 3 Swift. These simple devised allow for all 6 rounds to be pre-loaded into them which are then ready to insert into the chamber and reload all rounds simultaneously.

However, this addition means that you can no longer top off this weapon one bullet at a time as all spare rounds must be kept in the speed loader for the next quick reload. This means any rounds left in the weapon while reloading will be ejected and lost to make room for the next load.

AI
  • Implemented several dedicated server performance improvements tied to the AI cast.
Audio
  • Crouch-walking over broken glass/cans is now slightly louder than crouch-walking on other surfaces. This sound is audible at roughly 25m.
Hunter

Friendly Fire
  • The damage reduction from explosives to yourself and teammates has been removed.
  • This means damage from the following is applied to you and your teammates as normal:
    • Dynamite (sticks and bundles)
    • Explosive ammo (including Explosive crossbow bolts)
    • Red Barrels
    • Bomb lance splash Damage
Developer note:

Recently, we have seen an increase in players attempting to exploit the friendly-fire damage reduction. Due to this, we have decided to remove friendly fire/self-damage reduction that we had previously introduced to the game. This means that you will need to be far more careful when using explosives near your teammates as they will now take the exact same amount of damage as enemy players.

Bounty Revive
  • Increased the damage dealt when reviving a red-skulled teammate with the bounty from 25 to 50 HP.
    • Players performing this revive will not be able to kill themselves accidentally. If you have 50HP or less while performing this revive, it will stop at 1HP but will still finish the revive process.
Developer note:

The bounty revive mechanic was introduced to give an advantage to those that play the objective. We are very pleased with this feature overall, but we must acknowledge that it can potentially create some difficult situations, especially for solo players taking on teams.

Increasing this damage to the size of a big health chunk will ensure that at some point, the reviving player will run out of healing regardless of the health chunk configuration, which results in the reviving player becoming just as vulnerable as the teammate they are reviving. This should give solo players a much better chance to even out the odds during a fight.

We will continue to monitor the feedback around these changes and if need be, will make further adjustments in the future.

Gunplay

Hunting Bow
  • Increased the damage dealt when the bow is at minimum draw.
    • This means that performing a quick shot by tapping the fire button with inflict more damage to enemies.
  • Increased the damage multiplier of the Basic Arrow against Grunts and Hellhounds.
    • This will increase the chances of performing a OHK on these enemies.
    • Hitting these enemies at center mass from 15m will have a much higher chance of performing a OHK (one hit kill).
Developer note:

While we feel the Bow is in a good position in the current meta, we still want to give it some more general utility so that it remains a viable option in most situations. These adjustments will ensure that it is slightly more versatile for both PvE and PvP encounters.

Dragon Breath Custom Ammo Type
  • Increased the damage across all barrel lengths to improve the chance of landing a one hit kill (OHK). The OHK ranges for Dragonbreath are as follows:
    • Long and medium Barrel: 5-6m
    • Short Barrel: 3-4m
Developer note:

It’s important to note that a OHK at these ranges is still not a guarantee. A solid hit with the majority of pellets from this shell will still be required to ensure the OHK.

Winfield 1873 Full Metal Jacket ammo
  • New Custom ammo type available for the Winfield 1873 and Winfield 1873c:
    • Similar in function to other FMJ ammo types, this increases wall penetration and the effective range.
    • Price – $35
Higher Rate of Fire weapon changes (Dual Wield, Levering and Fanning)
  • Significantly increased the recoil for all pairs of Dual wield pistols making it harder to reacquire your target for a follow-up shot.
  • Dual wielding, fanning, and levering no longer benefit from an accuracy bonus while crouching.
Developer note:

We know that there has been some friction within the community regarding these high rate of fire options, but we are hoping these changes will help to alleviate some of these frustrations. These changes are aimed at ensuring these options require a lot more skill to use. The extra recoil for Dual wielding will ensure players need to use more control and trigger discipline while using them. We feel that these changes will ensure that it is a bit harder for players to fall victim to an ambush from shots from Dual wielding, fanning, and levering.

Explosive Crossbow adjustments
  • Significantly reduced the aim-punch that occurs when hit by the blast of an Explosive bolt. This means you will encounter much less screen movement when caught in the area of effect.
  • Reduced the spare ammo for Explosive bolts to ¼ (previously 1/6).
  • Slightly increased the hip fire spread for Explosives bolts.
Developer note:

We feel that overall, the Explosive crossbow is in a good spot in the meta, however we have seen several exploitive strategies appear (primarily on console) which means some changes are required. Along with the explosive changes mentioned in an earlier dev note, these changes are aimed at reducing some of the pain points that are experience, mostly from our console community. We also hope that by reducing the aim-punch this will give players a chance to reach quicker when caught in the explosion.

Trip Mines
  • Poison Trip mines now produce a poison cloud that persists for 30 seconds.
    • When triggered, a more intense level of poison will be applied to the player that set it off.
  • Alert Trip mines will now deal a small amount of burning damage to players (slight charcoal of your health bar).
  • Alert Trip mines can no longer be triggered when placed in water.
Developer note:

These changes are aimed at bringing these trip mines more in line with the Concertina Trip mine in terms of its effectiveness in a defensive role, ensure that all traps have roughly the same level of potential.

Poison Trip Mines will now produce a lasting effect meaning attackers will require a higher level of commitment if they want to push defenders. Triggering these mines is no longer a trivial matter due to these changes. This means defenders can capitalize on the attacker’s mistake, especially if the attacker commits to the fight and remains near the trap instead of retreating to a different location.

Alert Trip mines will now burn a small amount of health when triggered (charcoal effect to a small portion of the first health chunk). Two Alert Trip mines in proximity will be enough to set a Hunter on fire making them a far more effective tool, and not just when used near Red Barrels.

Happy trapping and stay vigilant!

Decoys
  • Decoys will now produce a “footstep” sound. This sound will vary depending on the surface they hit to keep them in line with the standard footstep audio.
  • The sound generated will behave exactly like a footstep of an enemy Hunter.
  • Equipping, unequipping and throwing decoys is now less audible to other Hunters
Developer note:

Decoys have struggled to find a solid place in players inventories, especially when compared with the usability of its cousins the Blankfire decoys, Decoy Fuses and Chaos Bomb. Selecting Decoys meant that you have a lot more of them to throw around, but the practical use was rather limited as experienced players would easily notice the attempted deception based on the sound they produced.

We want Decoys to be more useful when enemies are close by, giving you a chance to use them more reliably to create confusion. We have opted to change the impact sound from the generic metallic sound to something that represented the sound of footsteps.

Players can now decide if they want to use them to trigger sound traps (Dogs, birds etc), trigger AI to provide a distraction or by using them to deceive enemy Hunters, especially in those high-tension moments such as approaching or defending a Boss lair.

Meta

Regional prices for Blood bonds packs on Steam
  • Applied local prices for Blood Bond packs on Steam for all currently supported regions
World

Animal Sound Traps
  • Horses are now audible at further ranges bringing them in line with other animal sound traps.
    • Due to a bug, the Horse audio was only audible at up to 80m which has now been rectified.
    • Horses will take a longer time to de-escalate from their “aggro” state after they have been alerted.
  • Horses will now always be one shot to throwing axes regardless of where you hit the horse, bringing the damage to horses more in line with other powerful “one shot” attacks.
Doors and Windows Rendering Exploit
  • Fixed an exploit tied to the rendering of windows and doors. It is no longer possible to tell if others have visited a compound based on whether the doors and windows have rendered or not.
    • Doors and windows will now only be determined by how close you are to the compound and is no longer impacted by other players visiting a compound first.
Developer note:

This exploit was the result of a bug and was not intended by the team. We have been attempting to track down this bug for quite a while and have now found a good solution to this problem. From now on, it will no longer be possible to draw conclusion about other players and their presence in a nearby compounds based on whether the doors and windows have rendered in or not.

UI

Store
  • Added the Berthier Carbine Deadeye variant for $388
  • Added the Scottfield Model 3 Spitfire variant for $108
  • Added the Scottfield Model 3 Precision variant for $85
  • Added the Scottfield Model 3 Swift variant for $95
  • Added the Winfield 1873 Full Metal Jacket ammo for $35
  • Added the Winfield 1873c Full Metal Jacket ammo for $35
  • Slightly reduced the modifier given when selling equipment.
    • From 80% to 50%.

  • “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Unholy spirit, Hunters christen and cleanse the Bayou with the shot of this Winfield M1873 Bayonet. “
Flare Pistol “Death’s Beacon” for 400BB.
  • “Against a dark sky, this Flare Pistol blazes its foreboding message to Death, marking the next place from which souls need be collected, and graves dug. “
Romero 77 Talon “Maelstrom” for 700BB
  • “Get caught in the Maelstrom and you will be crushed in the stream of its current – sailor’s curse and Hunter’s dream – a tide of devastating shots.”
Bornheim No. 3 Match “Mockingbird” for 800BB

  • “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird, but it’s no sin to kill a monster, and the call from this Bornheim No. 3 Match mimics the torment of its victims with every shrill cry from its deadly barrel. “

Hunter
  • Fixed an issue on consoles that resulted in specific Hunter skins have a very low texture resolution.
  • Fixed a bug that resulted in a few second of a delay when switching weapons in case where the weapon switch is triggered by the auto-switch (e.g. using a grenade and once thrown it auto switches back to your gun).
Audio
  • Fixed a bug that resulted in not being able to hear the Hive swarm in some cases.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Horses to only be audible below 80m.
AI
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Hive swarms to pass through windows and doors when they were closed just as the swarm is about to pass through.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Butcher to get stuck on the pig’s head.
Gunplay
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to switch away from a cooking throwable, effectively faking a throw (Only applies to controllers)
World
  • Fixed a bug where choke bombs would not extinguish horses that were on fire.
  • Fixed a spot near a group of barrels in Blanc Brinery where players could potentially become stuck.
  • Fixed a spot near some hay bales in Windy Run where players could potentially become stuck.
  • Fixed a hole in the roof of Maw Battery that could give players and unfair advantage.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in some sliding gates having a gap that could provide an unfair advantage.
  • Fixed an issue tied to the rendering of windows and doors. It is no longer possible to determine if other players have been present in the compound.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Frag and Flash bombs to sink instead of floating on top of the water.
Weapon
  • Fixed a bug that caused explosives to explode when directly hit with a choke bomb, instead of defusing it as intended (does not apply to waxed dynamite).
  • Fixed a bug where fuses would remain active when thrown through the choke bomb cloud.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a loud sound to be heard when retrieving items such as knives, bolts an axes. The audio for this should now return to normal.
  • Fixed an issue with the Martini Henry, where players could become stuck in the scop animation when releasing aim directly after firing a shot.
  • Continued maintenance on naming and translations of Legendary weapons.
UI
  • Fixed an issue that could cause players to become stuck when starting the game.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the store sorting to reset when switch tabs.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the random contract description to appear behind the searching for match banner when joining a quickplay match.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the confirmation pop-up from appearing, when the last man standing attempts to “leave the match” through the esc menu. A pop up should now appear asking if you wish to confirm leaving.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the bounty Lightning strikes from the previous round to briefly appear on the map of your current match.

A full list of Known issues will be posted later. For now we want to highlight the following issues:

  • In some cases, when reloading, the client will load the bullets into your weapon but after a second or two it will show as if the reload never happened.
Developer notes:

We have managed to isolate the repro steps for this bug and are currently working on a fix. For now, we can share the steps so that you can avoid it and ensure it does not impact your gameplay.

This issue occurs if you perform a reload right after auto switch back to your weapon after using the last consumable in a slot (e.g. If you bring 2 vit shots, use the last one and reload as soon as it switches back to the weapon). To avoid this from happening, we recommend to not instantly reloading after the auto switch or cycle to another weapon first before performing a reload (or just wait a few seconds).

  • The posture Bug – the team are currently reviewing this bug that was reported to us recently. As this is not just tied to one or two weapons, it requires a pass to be performed on all weapon animations, which the animation team are in the process of doing. When we have more information we will provide it, but for now, rest assured we are working to resolve this as soon as possible.
  • Cain Visibility – We have seen a lot of feedback around Cain and how he is harder to spot in a match. We have brought these concerns to the art team and have an update for everyone. The team will be making some further changes to Cain which will come with update 1.8. We do not have specific details on what will be changed as the Art team are still working on this plan, but the main goal will be to improve the visibility of Cain in relation to the surrounding environment in Hunt.

Here are the known bug fixes for the Feb. 2 patch released on PC. We’re including this given the version jump from 1.43 to 1.45 for consoles.

  • Fixed an issue where the confirmation window was missing when buying the last Dark tribute with Bloodbonds.
  • Fixed an issue where the pop-up window was not displayed correctly when you receive a Legendary weapon or item rewards from Dark Tribute.
  • Fixed an issue that was introduced with Update 1.7.2 that resulted in an increase of reports around performance issues. More details can be found in the blog linked above.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Sales Near 43 Million Units; Series Over 65 Million Sold

Grand Theft Auto isn’t the only successful series that Take-Two Interactive boasted about sales figures today, as it has been revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 sales are closing in at nearly 43 million copies sold since its release.

As revealed during the Take-Two Interactive quarterly earning call, Red Dead Redemption 2 sales have nearly topped 43 million units since its release three and half years ago. As a whole, the Red Dead Redemption (RDR1 & RDR2) series has sold over 65 million units.

Furthermore, Red Dead Redemption 2 was also the second best-selling title in the last three years in the United States, only trailing behind Rockstar’s other title, Grand Theft Auto 5.

No further details were provided on the series future outlook, though hopefully there are some big plans in the works. For now, however, it seems the company is very focused on upcoming releases, which include the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy on mobile devices,Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Edition, as well as the Borderlands spin-off, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands that is launching next month.

Then, of course, there’s the next Grand Theft Auto game, which was announced in development last week from Rockstar Games. As for Rockstar’s biggest property, Take-Two announced that GTAV sales have now exceeded 160 million units! Regardless, we’re hoping there is more in the pipeline for Red Dead, whether that’s an expansive online update that many have been awaiting, or a new title altogether.

GTAV Units Sold Now at Over 160 Million, Best-Selling Game of the Decade in Units & Dollar Sales

While Rockstar Games has already confirmed that the next-entry in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise is “well underway,” don’t expect Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive to rush anything, as GTAV seems to be selling like hotcakes still!

In Take-Two’s latest quarterly earnings financials report, the company announced that GTAV units sold is now at over a staggering 160 million! This has made it the best-selling game of the decade both in units sold, and in dollar sales! Take that, Call of Duty! If that’s not impressive enough, Take-Two has announced that GTAV has reached $1 BILLION in retail sales faster than any entertainment release in history!

The Grand Theft Auto Series:

  • One of the most successful, iconic and critically acclaimed brands in all of entertainment
  • Pioneered the open-world genre
  • Series has sold-in over 370 million units

Grand Theft Auto V:

  • Over 160 million units sold-in to date
  • Reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any  entertainment release in history
  • Best-selling game of the decade in the U.S., based on both unit and dollar sales*
  • Grand Theft Auto V for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launching on March 15, 2022

Grand Theft Auto Online:

  • Constantly evolving
  • Regular release of free updates (over 40 to date)
  • Free with every copy of Grand Theft Auto V
  • Standalone version launching March 15, 2022

Even if Rockstar didn’t announce GTAVI, everyone would assume that a sequel is on the way. I mean, who wouldn’t want to push out a game that prints money, no?

We’ll have more on Take-Two’s earnings report from today here on the site, so stay tuned!

For more on the franchise, check out our latest feature where we think the next GTA game should take place!

Apex Legends Defiance Patch Notes Released by Respawn

Ahead of its deployment tomorrow, Respawn Entertainment has released the Apex Legends Defiance patch notes for February 8! This one is for a whole host of changes, including a brand-new Legend, gameplay, cosmetics, and more. Read on below for the full patch notes.

Apex Legends Defiance Patch Notes:

New Legend

Mad Maggie, cutthroat warlord and the Outlands’ meanest mad-lass, is back and she’s coming into the Apex Games like a wrecking ball with an offensive playstyle. With enhanced shotgun proficiency, the ability to dislodge enemies behind cover, and a crushing Ultimate, aggressive players are going to love playing as Mad Maggie.

Passive: Warlord’s Ire
Temporarily highlight enemies you’ve damaged. No movement speed penalty when wielding Shotguns.

Tactical: Riot Drill
Fire a drill that attaches to an obstacle and burns enemies on the other side.

Wrecking Ball
Throw a ball that releases speed-boosting pads and detonates near enemies.

Check out Maggie in action here.

Brand New Limited-Time Mode: Control

Defiance kicks off with Control, a brand-new limited-time mode that delivers an adrenaline-fueled 9v9 experience where two teams fight to capture and control points on the map. Featuring the largest team sizes in Apex Legends to date, players will pre-select their loadouts, drop in, and for the first time ever have the opportunity to experience the rush of having the same Legends fighting side by side, creating thrilling moments that can only happen in Control. In this mode, death is not the end, as throughout the match players will be able to respawn and carry on the fight until one team earns enough points to be declared the winner. So get ready to experience the spectacle of 9v9 Legend combat when Control kicks off on February 8th. Check out the full blog from Designer Mark Yampolsky here.

Get Rewards to Kickoff the Season

To celebrate the 3rd Anniversary and the amazing community of Apex Legends, we’re giving away rewards to all players who log in during the first three weeks of Defiance.* From February 8 to February 15, all players will unlock three Octane thematic packs just for logging in; if players don’t already have him, he’ll automatically be unlocked. From February 15 through February 22, players that login will unlock three Wattson thematic packs, as well as the Legend herself if she’s not on the player’s roster. Then we round out the celebration with Valkyrie, where between February 22 and March 1st players that login unlock three Valkyrie thematic packs plus one Legendary pack, with those that have yet to unlock this high-flying Legend getting her just for logging in. So be sure to login between February 8th and March 1st to unlock your rewards!

*Conditions & restrictions apply. See playapex.com/third-annivesary-login-rewards for details.

OLYMPUS MAP UPDATE

Someone or something has hacked into Olympus’ Phase Runner, sending the floating city crashing down and creating destabilizations across the city that change the face of the map: perhaps forever. Players will experience a malfunctioning Olympus, with new terrain exposed and more POIs than ever. And that’s not all!

  • Expanded map; spreading squads out more so the map’s center area (Labs/Estates) isn’t the only go-to combat zone each game and reducing the frequency of spontaneous 3rd-parties.
  • Better rotational options to help players get around and out of dangerous chokepoints
  • New interactive map toy and play spaces to help attract players into the new areas, creating fresh new experiences for Olympus

Check out the full blog from map designer, Alex Graner that goes into detail about what to expect from the Olympus Map Update.

Players in the regular Play Apex queue will drop exclusively into Olympus for the first week of the season, after which we’ll add Storm Point and Kings Canyon into the rotation.

STORM POINT UPDATES

Wildlife Update

It’s now been a full season since we introduced PvE into Battle Royal and while we were happy with how wildlife launched, we’ve seen that Prowlers were a bit too punishing and not quite rewarding enough. Additionally, we have seen some bad edge cases that create frustration for players that we’re hoping to address this season. We’ll go more in depth on the exact details and our reasoning behind them in another blog, but in short:

  • Prowler damage reduced from 30 to 20 and reduced knockback force.
  • Increased Prowler Nest completion reward from 90 to 150 crafting materials (250 total for the large Prowler Nest in the center of the map).Note: Crafting rewards are divided eveningly to all squadmates nearby at time of clearing the nest. All players (regardless of squad) in the area get a share of the 250 crafting material reward when the large Prowler Nest is cleared.
  • Overhauled wildlife targeting rules to use damage as the primary factor which should help wildlife targeting feel more fair and less random.
  • Introduced a targeting cap for Prowlers, so only 3 Prowlers will be able to target a player at any time.
  • Prowler Den spawns are now disabled when there are two teams inside of the same Nest (except for the massive Prowler Nest at the center of the map).
  • Prowlers are now neutral when outside the ring unless engaged in combat.
  • Prowler Dens are now disabled outside the ring if the Prowler Camp is passive.
  • Wandering Prowlers in the small Wildlife Nests have been reduced from 3 down to 2 and their wander radius is reduced by half until they are engaged in combat.
  • Made some tweaks that should help squads clear Prowler Nests quicker.
  • Gave a slight increase to high tier consumable drops on all wildlife.

Drop Ship Pathing.

While Storm Point has a relatively healthy spread of landing locations, we realized the typical drop ship logic often made the high northeast corner of the map particularly tough to land in. Rotating the distribution and moving the centerpoint slightly northeast should make Highpoint and Lightning Rod more accessible while still allowing players to land in the lower southwest portion if they desire.

Each image below shows 400 drop ship simulations, before and after the change:

 apex legends defiance patch notes

 apex legends defiance patch notes

Finally, a few miscellaneous changes:

  • Improved wildlife combat versus vehicles. Targeting and damage now focuses on an occupied vehicle opposed to individual players in the vehicle
  • Improved wildlife interactions versus electrical abilities making stunning wildlife with Wattson’s fences and Ash’s tactical more reliable

RANKED UPDATE

In Apex Legends the primary goal is to be the last Legend standing, and racking up kills is the vehicle to get you there. Last season, we made changes that opened up flexibility by compensating players with high kill counts that didn’t necessarily place first. We like this flexibility, but after observing the pacing of high-level ranked games, we saw players were focused on seeking out kills a little too much. Players that focus on fighting for higher placements and teamplay should be more faithfully awarded.

Change Summary:

    Max Kill KP: 175 → 125
Placement Points & Per Kill Bonus:

https://media.contentapi.ea.com/content/dam/apex-legends/en-us/common/articles/defiance-patch-notes/picture4.jpg

This tuning is more punishing to teams that undervalue placements. We’re bumping up placement points for teams in the top 5; easing back on the ‘Kill KP Cap’ and adjusting ‘Per Kill Bonuses’ to require ~2-3 less Kills to hit the maximum.

Split 1 will be played on Olympus, and we’ll move over to Kings Canyon for Split 2 in April.

COMMUNICATION FILTER

During this season we’ll be releasing a new feature where players will be able to determine which players they want to receive voice and text chat from called Communication Filter. Players can find the feature in the Options Menu under Gameplay and will have 3 options to choose from.

  • Everyone = You see and hear all Text / voice chat from all players.
  • Friends Only = You only see and hear friends text / voice chat.
  • Off = You do not see or hear any voice or text chat.

Players can also unmute anyone they choose, friend of friend or a good random squadmate.

LEGENDS BALANCE

Crypto

Drone View HUD and other  Quality of Life updates:

  • Added gamestate (e.g. Ring information, round timers), minimap, killfeed, team status, , and ping information to the Drone’s HUD.
  • Repurposed the Drone HUD’s old Crypto health/shield presentation into displaying the health of the Drone itself.
  • Survey Beacon markers are now displayed in-world while piloting the Drone (same as when controlling Crypto himself).

Neurolink changes:

  • Increased the Neurolink detection FOV from 160 -> 240 degrees.
  • Neurolink detection is now disabled while the Drone is being recalled.

Surveillance Drone changes:

  • The deployment of the Drone has received a rework:
    • Pressing the Tactical button causes Crypto to send the Drone flying in a straight line in the direction of Crypto’s view for a few seconds.
    • If thrown to a wall (or other geo), the Drone will hit the wall and re-orient itself so that it’s facing away from the wall.
    • Crypto no longer immediately accesses Drone View after deploying his Drone in this way.
    • Pressing and holding the [Tactical] button will launch the Drone forward in the same way, but then Crypto will immediately access Drone View.
  • Reduced Drone health from 60 -> 50.
  • The HUD marker for the Drone has been tweaked to increase visibility.
  • The HUD marker for the Drone is now always displayed on-screen while the Drone is deployed (instead of only when the Drone was off-screen.

Dev Note

Crypto has been off the grid in terms of pick rate. The goal of these changes was to make his kit more accessible and engaging. With a new deployment option, we lowered drone health to prevent reckless drone deploy. Crypto is still a methodical, calculating legend, and manually piloting Hack should still be the primary way to access macro-level recon. The drone view HUD updates should help here as well. Crypto’s never been weak per se; we’re cognizant of his strengths at high-level play and will be keeping an eye on his usage and performance.

Caustic

Nox Gas Traps are now destroyable after detonation

  • 150hp
  • Detonated traps will expire at 11s (instead of 12.5s)
  • Gas effects linger for two seconds after barrel destruction or expiration (gas particles still linger a bit longer as they dissipate)

WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT BALANCE

Supply Drop Rotation

The Alternator SMG returns to the ground loot this season and taking its place is the powerful mid-range energy Volt SMG.

Alternator SMG

  • Removed disruptor rounds hop-up

Volt SMG

  • Damage increased from 15 to 17
  • Max mag size increased from 28 to 30

Hop Ups

Kinetic Feeder – Triple Take & Peacekeeper

Sliding with the Triple Take or Peacekeeper significantly speeds up choke time and automatically reloads rounds.

Hammerpoint Rounds – P2020, Mozambique & RE-45

  • P2020
    • +50% unshielded damage
  • Mozambique
    • +35% unshielded damage
  • RE-45
    • +35% unshielded damage

Shatter Caps – 30-30 Repeater & Bocek Bow

  • Passively affects hip-fire for both weapons
    • ADS remains precision shot
  • No longer able to toggle on/off
  • 30-30 pellet damage reduced from 8 to 7
  • Bow pellet damage reduced 12 to 11

Triple Take

  • Removing projectile growth from bullets
  • Damage reduced from 23 to 21 per bullet

Dev Note

The Triple Take’s return to floor loot has been really positive, but it’s proving to be a bit ahead of the pack with its ranged performance. We’re eliminating the bullet growth it retained from its days as a sniper to pull it in line with other Marksman rifles.

VK-47 Flatline

  • Damage reduced from 19 to 18 per bullet

Rampage LMG (Hotfix)

  • Rampage damage reduced from 28 to 26
  • Reduced number of shots during the Revved state from ~40 to ~34

Dev Note

On January 13, 2022 we implemented a hotfix to the Rampage and Sentinel infinite charge bug. We took that opportunity to get out a Rampage nerf early. Noting these changes here for anyone who missed our earlier messaging.

Fully Kitted Rotation

  • Added: RE-45, Triple Take, Peacekeeper, Prowler, Havoc
  • Removed: Mastiff, 30-30 Repeater, R-301, CAR, Longbow

Weapons in Crafting

  • VK-47 Flatline and Longbow DMR are now craftable for 30 mats at any crafting station.
  • Weapons in crafting can not be found on the ground.
  • Crafted weapons come with no attachments and two boxes of ammo

Dev Note

As we continue to introduce new weapons and loot into the game we must consider the impact it has on loot saturation and the ability to find specific pieces for loadouts. With this change we are able to keep weapons available but give our floor loot some breathing room.

Crafting

  • Medkit price lowered from 20 to 15
  • Kinetic Feeder added to crafting rotation

BUG FIXES AND QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Fixed issue where multiple Legends were missing voice lines when pinging a caged flyer.
  • Fix for Booster Loader where ammo counter would remain highlighted when switching from a low ammo Hemlok or Wingman to another weapon.
  • Replicator fix for cases where an item could become stuck inside after crafting with a full inventory.
  • Fixed an error that would tell players to come back in a decade when matchmaking.
  • Fix for cases of lighting issues in some areas on Olympus.
  • Fix for cases where Mirage Ultimate Decoys could get stuck on surfaces raised slightly off the ground.
  • Arenas: Fix for cases where Crypto’s Drone charges could be used multiple times with single Drone.

  • Crypto’s Drone fix for cases where it wouldn’t show friendly nameplates.
  • Fix for cases where players were able to use melee on incline surfaces to get speed boost while sliding.
  • Fix for cases where revving up a Rampage LMG while removing extended mag causes the revved up bar to appear forever.
  • Fix for cases where the timer for charging the Sentinel and Rampage was not showing the correct time left for animation.
  • Fixed cases when specific Legendary Horizon skins would block part of screen when ADSing with a Prowler + 1x holo scope.
  • Fixed issue where weapon challenges would not show progress in the after match summary.
  • Fixed a bug where Charging up the Sentinel required 2 cells instead of 1 when wearing a golden armor.
  • Reduced L-STAR impact vfx.
  • Fixed a bug for cases where players could get a jump boost from deathboxes that are in the vicinity of Horizon’s Gravity Lift after it’s been used.
  • Reticle Color Customization – Limiting values to 0-255 to avoid exploits.
  • Reticle Color Customization – improved inconsistency in UI color when ADSing with different sniper scopes.
  • Reticle Customization fix for cases where rapidly adjusting the lighting bar can result in a performance drop on other platforms and a crash on Switch.
  • Based on  feedback, we’ve adjusted the in-world icon for Ash’s passive to be smaller and closer to the ground.
  • When Ash’s tactical hits an object it cannot stick to, it should now bounce off instead of destroying itself (tactical cooldown will not be refunded anymore)
  • Improved the targeting experience for Ash’s ultimate by preferring locations that are farther away
  • Audio Fix for cases where R-99 gun fire SFX persists when spectator changes to another player while R-99 is fired.
  • Storm Point: Fixed cases where players were unable to shoot through the chain-link fences at Antenna.
  • Storm Point: Fix for cases where players could get stuck inside the map by using Valk’s Ultimate on Command Center.
  • Storm Point: Based feedback we’ve adjusted Final Round Rings so they don’t end in areas with no cover or populated by Prowler Dens.
  • Storm Point: Fix for cases where a player could be launched by a Gravity Cannon while below it.
  • World’s Edge: Changed Fragment from high-tier to mid-tier loot. This happened in the 11.1 update, but was inadvertently omitted from those patch notes.
  • World’s Edge: Fixed an issue with Loba’s ultimate where it would not tell you items inside the panels at Trials were locked (though the alarm got triggered as normal).
  • Fix for cases where Gibby’s arm would be missing during Pathfinder’s “Iron Haymaker” finisher.
  • Fix for cases where the Entire map hears audio if a player cancels beacon scan.
  • Fixed issue where Valk’s “Cloud Marauder” Legend skin had darker hands in 1P versus what’s shown in the Lobby and in other 1P skins.
  • Fix for cases where Players hit by Seer tactical just as they enter crafting could lose certain functionality.
  • Fixed issue where Caustic barrels that are still being deployed (mid-throw) were not being deleted after Caustic dies.
  • Fixed issue where sometimes Wattson’s Interceptor Pylon would heal for less than intended.
  • Fix for cases where a crash could occur when players accept join club requests by clicking the approval button twice.
  • Fixed a bug where moving through Wraith’s portal could feel choppy when placed in the air via Gravity Cannons.
  • Fixed a bug where stocks didn’t drop from wildlife on Storm Point
  • Improved wildlife combat versus vehicles.
  • Improved wildlife interactions versus electrical abilities making stunning wildlife with Wattson’s fences and Ash’s tactical more reliable
  • Gave a slight increase to high tier consumable drops on all wildlife.
  • Added the ability to see your teammate survival item while the inventory is open.

Fixing some weird rules in how assists and kills are determined and properly rewarded.

  • Quitting players can no longer deny kills & assists
  • Reviving no longer resets damage history

PRIVATE MATCH UPDATES

  • Observer: Added a toggle to disable kill feed while in free cam.
  • Observer: Fixed ring visibility on mini map.
  • Observer: Fixed kill calculations for the Status & Stats screen.
  • Fixed Stats Summary generation for team slots with default names.
  • Disabled Club features in Private Match.
  • Added unique player ID’s to Post-Game API (same ID’s seen in the Real-Time API).
  • Real-Time API changes:
    • Added “weaponSwitched” event. Shows the current item equipped by the player.
    • Added player names for events squadEliminated and matchStateEnd.
    • Added teammate names for observerSwitched event.
    • Fix for items appearing as “Unrecognized”.
    • Fix for characterSelected event not populating with all players.

That’s about it for the patch. Stay tuned for more updates once the new expansion hits consoles and PCs tomorrow.

Become the Doomguy in This Dying Light 2 Secret Doom Level Easter Egg

Dying Light 2 released to much fanfare last week, and already there are a ton of Easter eggs being discovered, including one for a secret Doom level! That’s right, if you’re playing Dying Light 2 right now, here’s your chance to experience a Doom-inspired level and challenge, with the appropriate musice and visuals to boot.

As shown in the Dying Light 2 video above, the secret Doom level can be accessed through an ominous room with an elevated pentagram in the middle. Right off the bat, it’s already oozing Doom, but what really cements is  that once you pick up the gun that starts the challenge for it, you’re immediately thrust into a room that’s very reminiscent of the original Doom, complete with a backing track that’s clearly inspired by E1M1, the original soundtrack for the game.

If that’s not enough to convince you that this is a Doom Easter egg, then the final straw would be the graphics. While not entirely pixelated, the first-person camera looks slightly mosaic, a callback to the original Doom’s textures.

With the game clearly built for longevity and tons of future updates, it will be exciting to see just what else will players see in Dying Light 2.

Check out our review for the game here, where AJ wrote, “While Dying Light 2 improves on its predecessor in nearly every way, occasional bugs hamper the experience and a few of the gameplay changes are ones I could have done without. Still, if you’re someone who’s been looking forward to the game, nothing that I experienced in my nearly 30 hours with the game was a complete deal breaker, and in fact I enjoyed my time quite a bit. If you’re someone that’s been on the fence, or perhaps mildly interested in Dying Light 2, I definitely think it’s an experience that’s worth your time, and one that stands out amongst the crowded zombie genre. If you were a fan of the original and have been eagerly anticipating Dying Light 2, it’s an easy day one purchase, and one that delivers on every promise that Techland set for it.”

Dying Light 2 Easter Egg for Superfan & Subreddit Mod Discovered

Not even a week has passed since its official release and there are already a ton of Dying Light 2 Easter egg discoveries for the game, and this one is a special one as it pays tribute to a superfan of the game as well as a former official subreddit’s moderator! This one just goes to show that Techland are heavily invested in the community aspect of the game, and you can see the Easter Egg for yourself below.

Posted over by GamerMom1969 over on Reddit and on Twitter, the Easter egg references a post that is looking for something, specifically a weapon. GamerMom1969 was a prolific moderator of the subreddit, and they were finally immortalized in the game in this adorable reference:

OMFG I have an easter egg in the game!!! <3 Don’t know where but have fun finding it for me!! :D
byu/GamerMom1969 indyinglight

According to a commenter on the same thread, the post can be found “in the back of a mover truck in the Central Loop,” and you can see the actual location in the map below.

What’s even better is that the weapon mentioned in the post is an original idea of GamerMom1969, as explained in this tweet:

A couple of months before, GamerMom1969 posted on Reddit about a package they received, with her retirement from the sub being announced in a separate video.

Had a special delivery today from Techland and i have to say it made me cry knowing how much I mean to the entire Dying Light community!! I love everyone that I have met and helped along the way!! I will stay strong knowing I have a community that has my back!! <3
byu/GamerMom1969 indyinglight

While they have since stepped down as a moderator, GamerMom1969 still remains very much active in the community, and is still very much a superfan of the series to this day – finally leading up to this recognition in Dying Light 2!

In case you missed it, check out our review of Dying Light 2 here, where AJ wrote, “While Dying Light 2 improves on its predecessor in nearly every way, occasional bugs hamper the experience and a few of the gameplay changes are ones I could have done without. Horizon Zero Dawn Secret Character Revealed Through PC Cheats

A Horizon Zero Dawn secret character has been revealed through the power of PC gaming, with cheats unlocking the hidden cast member that was hidden away by the developers! Found and shared by a certain player using hacks on the game, the secret character appears to be a placeholder of some sorts, with another clue embedded in it which could point to its origins.

Found by user _PortPort_ on Reddit, the Horizon Zero Dawn secret character appears to be a humanoid bird wearing a signage poster, and you can check them out in their full glory below:

So I found this with the cheat menu on PC, has anybody found this before?
byu/_PortPort_ inhorizon

As explained further in the post, the user found this character through an external cheat manager from NexusMods. However, the character model itself is not a mod; it’s a placeholder asset, as proven by the sign covering their front, saying: “this is a legacy char please replace me”

As for its origins, the developers left a certain clue as to it, with the sign on the back inviting players to email them:

“questions? contact Duckman@guerrilla-games.com”

What a weird secret character indeed – and a bit unnerving when you check it out close up. It’s always amazing to see just how much games can keep hidden in terms of secrets and Easter Eggs, and if Horizon Zero Dawn did not come to PC there’s a very good chance this one would not have made it to the light of day.

Horizon Zero Dawn’s sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this February 18, and expect our review to hit the site soon!

When Will Ghostwire Tokyo Release on Xbox and Game Pass?

Given that Ghostwire Tokyo has yet to be officially announced for the Xbox One and Xbox Series, it’s hard to say exactly when the title will actually drop on the consoles. However, if the marketing disclaimer that PlayStaion has been placing at the end of every Ghostwire Tokyo trailer is anything to go by, we do have an estimate on when we can expect to see Ghostwire Tokyo release on both Xbox and Xbox Game Pass.

When WIll Ghostwire Tokyo Release on Xbox and Xbox Game Pass?

At the earliest, Xbox gamers and Xbox Game Pass subscribers can expect Ghostwire Tokyo to drop after March 25, 2023. Due to PlayStation having a one-year exclusivity deal, the title will not be available on any other console platform until the deal expires. This is set to end on March 25 of 2023, though Xbox gamers may expect to see an announcement before that.

And while there hasn’t been an official announcement concerning the Xbox version Ghostwire Tokyo, or whether it will be a part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription when it releases, it might be a safe assumptionthat this will be the case. In a round table discussion during March 2021 post the Zenimax-Bethesda acquisition, Xbox Game Boss Phil Spencer had this to say about the future of Bethesda games.

“If you’re an xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is that this [Bethesda deal] is about delivering great exclusive games to you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists.”

Tango Gameworks was part of the umbrella of studios that Bethesda fell under when Zenimax Media were purchased by Microsoft in 2020. It is considered a first party studio, and since Microsoft is pushing to have first party studios as day one releases for Game Pass sub, it is safe to assume that will be the case when Ghostwire Tokyo is finally announced for the platform.

We should be hearing more on this as we inch closer to the exclusivity deal ending. For now, if gamers want to experience Ghostwire Tokyo before that date, they will either have to play on the PlayStation 5 or PC when they are released on March 25, 2022.

Rumor: Batman Arkham Collection Releasing on Nintendo Switch

It looks like Nintendo fans will finally get to play the Batman Arkham Collection soon. The award-winning games might be heading to the Nintendo Switch console later this year if a retailer leak is to be believed.

According to a French distributor site WTT, the Batman Arkham Collection will be available on the Nintendo Switch, and it will cost players €59.99, and be released on August 31, 2022, which is likely a placeholder date.

No other details have been noted, although this might be the first time Nintendo fans can play the whole series. The only Arkham games that were released for Nintendo were the Wii U versions of Arkham City and Arkham Origins. The 3DS also got a spin-off called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate.

If this collection has the whole series, Nintendo fans can finally get to play Arkham Asylum and Arkham Knight.

This news should be treated as a rumor for now, but given how retailer leaks are, don’t be surprised if this is the real deal.

Ghostwire Tokyo PS5, PC Versions Rated by ESRB

Ghostwire Tokyo looks to be all set for a proper release on the PS5 and PC after both versions’ ratings were spotted over on the ESRB site. The game will be releasing in March, so head down below and check out the ESRB rating for Ghostwire Tokyo on the platforms.

As per the ESRB rating for Ghostwire Tokyo on PS5 and PC, it has a Teen rating for:

  • Language
  • Violence

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a man facing off against a supernatural threat in Tokyo. From a first-person perspective, players explore the spirit world, collect mystical items, and battle various ghosts and demons in frenetic combat. Players use spells, talismans, and blasts of energy to defeat the spirits. A handful of ghosts wield machetes or giant scissors while menacing player’s character. Combat is highlighted by cries of pain and explosive light effects. One cutscene depicts the aftermath of a road accident, with several corpses lying on the ground. The words “sh*t,” “a*shole,” and “pr*ck” appear in the game.

Ghostwire Tokyo is releasing on PlayStation 5 and PC this March 25. Check out our preview for the game here, where AJ wrote, “Developer Tango Gameworks seem to have a stylish, lore-filled world crafted with Ghostwire: Tokyo. However, with the preview demo only being 28-minutes long, it’s hard to form a full opinion on the game. The game appears to have some fun, unique set pieces and an intriguing premise that definitely shows promise. But while the first-person combat and open world look flashy, we can’t help but wonder about the substance. What we saw looked promising, but we’re eager to see more.”
