Black Desert Update 1.57 October 13 Fixes Listed, PS5 Version Confirmed

Pearl Abyss has released the Black Desert update 1.57 October 13 patch on consoles! Note that this was deployed during today’s maintenance, and as one might expect for an unannounced game patch, this one is purely for fixes. Head on below for the patch notes.

Also, the game has been confirmed for the PS5, too! Head on below for the full news.

Black Desert Update 1.57 October 13 patch notes:

Full message from Pearl Abyss:

Adventurers,

A small patch has been released.
You will be prompted to download this patch the first time you log into the game after its release, or after you have restarted your game if you are currently in game.

This patch will address the following issues:

– Camera resets when exiting the Skill UI

– The remaining time on buffs overlap with one another when the game is set to English

In order to download the update, you will need to restart your game.

Yep, that’s basically it for the patch. However, in addition to that, the studio has confirmed that Black Desert will be transitioning to the PS5! As one might expect, you can carry your game saves and whatnot from the PS4 version to the PS5!

Adventurers,

We are pleased to announce that Black Desert will be able to be played from day one on the PlayStation 5. If you already own Black Desert on PlayStation 4, you will be able to play Black Desert on PlayStation 5 at no extra cost.

Not only that, as long as your PlayStation ID remains the same as you transition to the PlayStation 5, you will be able to pick up your adventures from the PlayStation 4 and continue your story.

For more information about backwards compatibility, you can check out the official PlayStation 5 blog highlighting more of the details on backwards compatibility.

Of course, the game will be playable on the Xbox Series X as well.

Xbox Series X/S

We are happy to announce that as backwards compatibility is a core feature of both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, you will be able to enjoy Black Desert on the next generation of consoles from day 1. There will be no need to purchase any additional bundles as all current owners of Black Desert will be able to continue their adventures on these devices. The only caveat is that your current Xbox Live Account must be the one used, and if it is, you will be able to continue where you left off!

We’ll let you know once a new game update has been released.

* Please note that mettle cannot be earned by fighting enemies outside of skirmishes and critical engagements.

Resistance Rank

Resistance rank is a representation of your reputation on the Bozjan southern front. As your rank increases, the Resistance’s front line will advance, allowing you to explore new areas on the southern front.

Current Resistance rank and mettle earned can be viewed at any time via the HUD.

Penalties

After reaching Resistance rank 5, players will begin to lose mettle upon being incapacitated. Players will also lose mettle if they return to the encampment or leave the instance without being revived.
* Resistance rank cannot go down from losing mettle.

Encounters on the Bozjan Southern Front

Players must assist the soldiers of Bozja by participating in skirmishes and critical engagements. Contributions to these battles will earn players the following rewards:

  • Mettle
  • Allagan tomestones (For jobs at level 80)
  • Experience points (For jobs below level 80)

Victory in these battles is essential to pushing the front line forward and ultimately routing the imperial forces.

Skirmishes

These battles appear throughout the instance, and can be joined by any number of players. Most skirmishes are commenced randomly in the field, with some being triggered by the defeat of certain enemies.

Critical Engagements

These battles are triggered by the defeat of certain enemies or victory in skirmishes, allowing only a limited number of combatants.

Critical engagements do not require you to be present in the field to participate. Instead, players must request deployment via the Resistance Recruitment window.

Joining Critical Engagements

Once battle has commenced, critical engagements will appear in the Resistance Recruitment window. There, players can confirm whether the Resistance is enlisting more combatants to join the fray, the maximum number of participants, as well as the time remaining for the encounter.

Critical engagements take place in three phases:

1. Registration
Players will have one minute after a critical engagement has been initiated to request deployment. If there are more requests for deployment than are permitted for an engagement, however, participants will be selected at random.
* When joined in a party, the party leader must request deployment on behalf of their party. In the event participants are selected at random, the party will be accepted or declined as a whole.
2. Preparing for Battle
Players selected for deployment will have two minutes to prepare for battle. When ready, they can be transported to the battlefield via the Resistance Recruitment window.
Should the maximum number of combatants not be reached before the preparation phase, the Resistance will call for reinforcements, at which point players may again request deployment.
* When requesting deployment as reinforcements, all players must apply separately, even if they are in a party. Furthermore, combatants will be selected in the order in which they applied rather than by lottery.
3. Battle Commences
When the preparation phase ends, players must take up arms and do battle with imperial forces.

Priority Deployment

It is possible to gain priority deployment for critical engagements. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:

  • Combatant’s Priority Deployment
Players who contribute to the initiation of a critical engagement may receive priority when registering for their next deployment.
  • Quartermaster’s Priority Deployment
Players may receive priority deployment in exchange for Bozjan clusters by speaking to the Resistance quartermaster at Utya’s Aegis (X:14.2 Y:29.6). It should be noted that those with combatant’s priority deployment are more likely to be chosen.

* When registering as a party, all party members must have the same type of priority deployment for it to be recognized.
* If the number of players requesting priority deployment exceeds the maximum number of combatants, they will be selected by lottery.

Bozjan Clusters

When defeating enemies on the Bozjan southern front, there is a chance players will come across Bozjan clusters. These crystals can be traded to the Resistance quartermaster at Utya’s Aegis (X:14.2 Y:29.6) for various goods and services.

The number of Bozjan clusters in your possession can be confirmed via the HUD.

Lockboxes

While battling on the southern front, players will also come across lockboxes. They can be appraised by the Resistance locksmith at Utya’s Aegis (X:15.2 Y:29.7).

Lost Actions

Lost actions are a special type of duty action exclusive to the Bozjan southern front. They have various effects, including those used for attacking, healing, and reviving allies. Their effective use may turn the tide of battle in your fight against the IVth Imperial Legion.
* Lost actions are unlocked after reaching Resistance rank 2 and progressing the quest line.

Forgotten Fragments and the Lost Finds Cache

During their expeditions into the front, players will obtain items known as “forgotten fragments.” These can be examined by a Resistance appraiser at Utya’s Aegis (X:15.3 Y:30.1), transforming them into lost actions.

While unidentified fragments can be placed in your inventory, those transformed into lost actions are stored in the lost finds cache, which can hold up to 200 copies of any lost action.

Lost Finds Holster

To use lost actions in battle, they must first be moved from the lost finds cache to the lost finds holster.

It should be noted, however, that the lost finds holster has a limited capacity. While this limit can be increased with a higher Resistance rank, you must choose carefully which actions to take into battle.

Up to 10 combinations of your favorite lost actions can be saved as sets.

Once a set has been loaded, your selection of actions can be confirmed in the Lost Finds Holster window.

Using Lost Actions

While most lost actions must be converted into duty actions before they are used, some can be used directly from the holster as items.

  • Using as Duty Actions
Lost actions are kept in the lost finds holster until they are assigned as duty actions.
    * Lost actions assigned as duty actions will not be lost upon exiting the Bozjan southern front.

When two duty actions are set, the controls are as follows:

  • Duty Action 1
    RT + Right Thumb-click (R2 + R3)
  • Duty Action 2
    LT + Right Thumb-click (L2 + R3)
  • Using as Items
Lost actions categorized as items can be used directly from the lost finds holster to activate their effects. They may also be assigned to your hotbar, making them ideal for use in emergencies.

Field Records

As you progress through quests on the Bozjan southern front, a field record will be added to your collection. Furthermore, completion of certain quests, skirmishes, and critical engagements in the Bozjan southern front will earn you sheaves of notes. These notes can then be used to add entries to the field record.

If you should find sheaves of notes already added to your field record, they can be traded to the Resistance historian at Utya’s Aegis (X:15.0 Y:29.1) for various goods.

A new Resistance weapon story quest has been added.

Black Ops Cold War Beta Update 1.02 Released

While it’s down now and won’t be back for PS4 gamers until this Thursday, Treyarch has taken that time to release the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta update 1.02 patch. This is a small download clocking in at just 750MB.

Black Ops Cold War Beta Update 1.02 Patch Notes:

  • Stability fixes and bug fixes

Unfortunately, that’s all we know so far, as Treyarch hasn’t posted anything else. Of course, given the PS4 beta had crashing issues, this is a welcome patch. If there are any other gameplay-related changes to this, chances are, we won’t know what they are until the beta starts again this Thursday.

Speaking of which, Xbox One and PC gamers will be getting their early access time with the beta too! Head on over here for the complete schedule. In other Black Ops Cold War news, go check out how the scorestreak multipliers have changed from the alpha right here, and we also posted a video showing the current state of the netcode and hit registration too.

We’ll be posting our Black Ops Cold War impressions piece soon, as well as a list of changes we want to see Treyarch implement as well, so stay tuned!

Why PS3 Emulation Is So Hard Even After 15 Years

As we learned earlier in the year, the PS4 won’t be feature any backwards compatibility outside of the PS4. While a disappointment to many, some had wondered why it was that some PCs were capable of running emulations such as RPCS3 yet a next-gen console such as the PS5 isn’t. Well, for those who aren’t very technical, a new video by Modern Vintage Gamer breaks down the very reasons as to why it’s not easy to emulate the PS3, with professional input from a member of Sony’s own ICE team.

While we’ve seen a good numbers of videos over the years as to why the PS3 would be difficult to emulate on home consoles, MVG breaks things down a bit further going over many overlooked details, including talks of the console’s SPU in which he got Rob Wyatt, a former member of the ICE team (no at Tin Giants) that worked on the PS3 architecture. Have a watch below, it’s very informative.

For those that missed the quote, here’s what Rob Wyatt had to say about PS3 emulation.

“Emulating the PS3 will be tricky. The most difficult thing of all would be the SPUD, to this day – over 15 years later – they are in a class of their own. Sustained single core performance on an SPU is still higher than most anything on the market today”

The explanation provided in the video is pretty understandable, and considering the development woes that the PS3 first had when it launched, we can’t imagine it being any easy actually bringing that technology forward on other home consoles. Of course, we don’t know what future plans that Sony has concerning the matter, though we do suspect we will see a big push with PS Now until a different solution is found.

The PS5 will be releasing on November 12 in North America and November 19 everywhere else. For more on the PS5, check out the list of PS4 games that won’t work with the PS5’s backwards compatibility here.

Rockstar Acquires Crackdown Dev Ruffian Games, Rebrands as Rockstar Dundee

Rockstar acquires Ruffian Games — the British video game developer best known for developing Crackdown 2, and has rebranded the company as Rockstar Dundee.

Named after the Scotland city where the company is based in, Ruffian has been working with Rockstar since last year and has been assisting them in developing their games according to a report by The Gamer.

Founded in 2008, the former Ruffian Games was formed by Gary Liddon, Billy Thompson, and Gareth Noyce, and consisted of a team of developers who have worked in games such as Fable II, Cracdown, and Project Gotham Racing. Their best known work in Crackdown 2, which was released in 2010 for the Xbox 360. The company also worked on the following sequel Crackdown 3, as well as teaming up with lead developer 343 Studios to make Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One and PC — a collection of Halo games which consisted of Halo: Combat Evolve Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4.

The news of the acquisition adds to speculation that Rockstar is increasing its production capacity and adding new blood to their ranks, especially a company that has developers who have had experience working on their own titles such as the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Manhunt series.

Roccat ELO 7.1 Air Review – Superman Vibes

A little over a year ago, Turtle Beach made it’s purchase of long time PC peripherals maker, Roccat. A rather big purchase, one that served to further expand the portfolio of products under the Turtles Beach name. An exciting announcement for fans of either companies, and with Roccat working on their flagship line of headset, the ELO, we now have a headset that takes best of both worlds, all at an affordable price. Head on to our Roccat ELO 7.1 Air review to see what we think of this piece of gaming gear.

Built to Endure

While the visual style of the Roccat Elo 7.1 Air is rather basic compared to a lot of other gaming headset, the overall build quality is pretty impressive. Featuring steel framing with an elastic padded banding for comfort, the Roccat Elo 7.1 Air offers a high level of durability that certainly doesn’t feel cheap. Compared to headsets that opt for a full plastic build, the metallic exterior headband offers far more flexibility so that it may fit any head shape, with the interior banding supplying comfort for the wearers.

The speakers are enclosed in a nicely matted plastic, with two joints that offer inner tilting and 90 degree rotation. As for their padding they are laced with some leather like material with the inner cushioning being some light memory foam. They won’t provide a closed acoustic environment, but they do provide a snug and comfortable fit. And considering that it comes packed with a chargeable battery that can hold up to 24-hours of life, being comfortable is most definitely something you’ll want.

Moving on, we have my favorite design choice and that’s the removable microphone. Yep, if you aren’t one to fancy having a microphone on the headset and prefer a more cleaner look, you can detach the microphone with no hassle whatsoever. You’ll also be glad to know that the microphone is fully adjustable, meaning you can mold it in any direction that you. As for the other adjustments such as game volume, chat, on/off, those are tucked on the left earphone with nice and easy access.

Clarity Traveling to You

Of course, as with all gaming headsets the big thing most of you are probably wondering is, how good is the sound? Well it’s very good, in fact I’d go as far to say it has some of the best sounds I’ve heard to come out of a wireless gaming headset. While the clarity is pretty comparable to those other sets, it’s how the ELO delivers it to you that is rather special.

Testing out the ELO with it’s base 7.1 settings on a game like Call of Duty, I noticed sounds felt more amplified with a better strong sense of focus added to them. Being able to listen to a sound such as footsteps and pinpoint exactly where it was coming from, all while gunshots and explosives were going off was surprisingly clear, and in a very different way. We’ve tested some amazing headsets with equally fantastic speakers before, but the ones on the ELO seemed more geared to providing gamers with a competitive edge.

As I played and listen, I could see myself improving in my overall reaction times as new sounds that I couldn’t hear before were now being focused on. Adding to the fact that these are wireless and I’m sitting 15-20ft away from my screen, the quality is surprisingly clear with no indication whatsoever of the quality dropping. What’s more, as mentioned before, this was just using the default 7.1 set-up as the headset comes packed with it’s own dedicated software.

The Power of Swarm

The big advantage of having a wireless or USB connection type of headset (versus 3.5mm), is that usually the manufacturer has their own dedicated PC software that is built specifically to unlock said device full potential. In this case, the ROCCAT ELO 7.1 Air is fully supported by the ROCCAT Swarm app.

I think the Swarm application is easily one of the more impressive headset application on the market. The design is sleek, easy to navigate , and allows a users a deep amount of audio customization. Individual audio channels can be tweaked to meet the needs of any gamer out there, with a number of preset selections available at a click of a button. Additionally, you can create your own profiles to allow easy access when switching between titles. It truly does bring out the audio capability of the ELO, which is exceptional as it enhances all the sounds that are important.

Some quality of life features from the app also include battery monitoring, microphone sensitive adjustments, RGB lighting adjustments, and even some noise canceling features. It has all the essentials that a gamer could ask for, with some added perks sprinkled. Although I should mention that one of those perks is tucked away in the Swarm app, and it’s known as Superhuman hearing.

Giving You Super-Man Hearing

Being a huge competitive online gamer, sound has always been a major factor when considering upping ones game. Having to be able to hear footsteps, guns reloading, and far distant objects perfectly without anything getting muddle can truly give one a competitive edge. While the ELO 7.1 Air provides just that with it’s presets of options as mentioned before, the Superhuman hearing feature is without a question a game changer.

Upon turning it on, I could instantly tell there was a major difference in how sound was getting picked up. With Modern Warfare as our test title, I could now hear players far better as sounds were increasingly enhanced and amplified with superhuman hearing. Its not just a simple turn up the audio to make it louder either, as it seemed even more selective in the kinds of sounds it picked up over others. Focusing on the smaller details of sound, such as a ammo casing falling to the ground or someone reloading close by. Coupled with the excellent 7.1 surround sound and you have yourself a killer combination that provides a true competitive edge.

Microphone That Picks Up Too Much

If there was one big complaint I did have about the ELO 7.1 air then it’s how the microphone on it seems to pick up unneeded background noises. While I found the general output quality to be “OK” when I was the only noise going into it, some of my squad mates were quick to point out how loud my keyboard would sound, or how they could hear chatter in the background from my home. There are some adjustments that you can make in the Swarm application, however, even with the microphone noise canceling feature ticked it still picked up quite a bit of unwanted sound. This was even more apparent to me when turning up the chat slider on the headset, which made it so I could hear myself and all the feedback the mic was getting.

On the subject of volume sliders, I should mention that while this headset can be plugged into a console (tested on PS4), the actual volume slider is tied to whatever hardware you are using, meaning there’s not a true onboard volume control. So you are stuck with using whatever volume control is on the consoles. This is more of a fair warning rather than a con, seeing that this is a set built for PC. So the fact that it even worked on my PS4 in it’s capacity was a surprise to begin with, though I don’t recommend this as an option for console players.

Let’s Hear It

While the microphone could use improved noise canceling capability, the Roccat Elo 7.1 Air is overall, a very solid wireless headset. Taking the high quality build that the Elo line is known for and bringing fourth some of Turtle Beach best audio features, the Roccat Elo 7.1 Air is easily one of the best wireless headsets for it’s price that a user can currently get. It’s superb audio, coupled with the Superhuman hearing, makes this one of the more worthy sets to have. Long lasting battery to keep you in the game longer, with light weight comfortability. It may not be the sleekest looking set around, but it certainly does the job at providing you with that competitive edge you always wanted.

PROS

  • Swarm software is easy to use and loaded with options
  • Superhuman hearing is a gamechanger
  • Excellent build quality
  • USB C allows faster charge over traditional micro USB
  • Long lasting battery
  • Not mentioned in the review, but the headset will automatically turn off after a set amount of time is you aren’t wearing them. Awesome quality of life feature.

CONS

  • Mic noise cancelling setting still picks up quiet a bit of background noise.

Retail Prices:

Apex Legends Update 1.48 October 12 Sneaks Out (Update)

While we just got the big Aftermarket Event patch for Apex Legends last week, Respawn Entertainment has released the Apex Legends update 1.48 October 12 patch, and it’s out now on all platforms. This is a small download, so don’t expect any major changes.

Apex Legends Update 1.48 October 12 patch notes:

Respawn Entertainment has not announced any new patch or patch notes, but thanks to the official Trello board, here are the latest bugs addressed that are tagged as “coming in a future patch,” and confirmed as a “client patch,” both of which applies to today’s update.

  • Pathfinder’s arm get’s stuck in front of the player:

Description

When Grappling, Pathfinders arm will get stuck to the right side of the screen.

  • Performance Display issues
  • Crashes occur when -dev is applied
  • Triggering Crypto’s EMP while not in drone lowers gun for 5s

There’s also the Sentinel sniper rifle exploit, which was disabled a few days ago.

Due to an exploit with the Sentinel Sniper Rifle, we’ve decided to disable it while we work out a fix. More info to come as we have it.

In the meantime, we have fixed an issue within Flashpoint that was causing the Ring to spawn on top of players at the start of the match.

Hopefully, this means that the exploit has been fixed.

Once Respawn Entertainment releases the official notes, we’ll update the post. In the meantime, if you spot any changes not mentioned above, leave a comment below and let us know.

Update: Official patch notes have been released, and yep, it’s the same as the ones we posted above from the Trello board.

  • New Content — Prologue: The Gathering Storm will be free to all players and feature weekly quests with unique rewards

  • Introducing Clash Mode — 9v9 team deathmatch with 3 squads on each team

  • New Talents — Enable players to further customize their playstyle

    • Vigor: Bonus health

    • Ambidextrous: Enables the passive class ability in your offhand gauntlet

    • Foresight: Reveals nearby  players on your minimap and shows future shrines/circles

Additional details on this update via Spellbreak Blog

  • The beginnings of the Chapter system will reunite you with Avira Emberdane, who will help further hone your skills as a battlemage, and earn some tasty cosmetics along the way.

  • Clash, our 9v9 team deathmatch mode, will kick-off during the Prologue. Clash is an excellent way to blow off steam and get into some non-stop Spellbreak combat as you battle another team in a race to a predetermined number of exiles. (It’s also great for completing some of the harder quests!)

  • It’s time for a spooky Holloween (not canon!). Some tricks and treats will be coming to the store.

  • Three new 3-point Talents. Your builds are about to get a lot harder to plan!

  • New (and some reworked) Consumables, including a brand new gameplay-affecting one

For those who haven’t joined the millions yet and are interested in out thoughts, here’s what our reviewer for Spellbreak had to say:

Spellbreak is a fun new take on the BR genre, one that I think will differentiate itself enough away from the big hitters. The early access version that is out is surprisingly polished, and while I did have a fun time with the game, I’m more interested in seeing what they bring down the line for the map and new spells.

Be sure to read the full review of Spellbreak here.

We”ll have the full changelog of this upcoming Spellbreak update once it releases in a couple of weeks.

Report: PS5 Games and Accessories Releasing Earlier in the UK

According to a retailer and some listings, UK gamers may be able to get a head start at owning some PS5 games and accessories as their release dates have been moved forward.

A few listings on Amazon UK, such as Demon’s Souls and Spider-Man Miles Morales have seen their release dates moved forward from November 19 to November 12, matching the North America launch date of the PS5.

A UK retailer also tweeted out, confirming that some of the PS5 accessories have had their release dates changed.

Seems rather odd considering that the PS5 won’t be available in the UK until November 19, although also not an uncommon occurrence as we have seen this for other console launches in the past. Still, for those who missed out on pre-ordering  (in UK) some of the PS5 accessories such as the media remote and charger dock, the in very least you now have a chance to pick them up earlier and on a more less hectic day.

The PS5 console will officially launch in the UK on November 19, for those living stateside we will have out launch on November 12. You can check out how the compatible PS4 controllers for PS5 right here.

Would you get a controller and games even without the console yet?

Modern Warfare & Warzone Update 1.28 Now Live, Is a Rolling Pre-Load

Heads up! Infinity Ward has released the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone update 1.28 patch! This is an unannounced title update, and is a pre-load, as the patch itself can only be installed on October 14 (10/14). Note that this is live on PS4 currently, since the Xbox One doesn’t support pre-load of patches.

UPDATE: If you’re being sent here via Google, you can check out the patch notes for today’s update here.

Clocking in at a heft 9.6GB, here’s what to expect from it.

Modern Warfare & Warzone Update 1.28 Patch Notes:

Don’t expect any patch notes for this update, as this is a pre-load, and is most likely the Season 6 mid-season update. However, if we had to hazard a guess, this contains the “Haunting of Verdansk” data for the upcoming event set for October 20. Yep, Halloween is coming to Verdansk!

Check out the image of the Season 6 roadmap below.

Modern Warfare & Warzone Season 6 New Maps

Note that once you’ve downloaded the patch, the PS4 itself states that it can only be installed on 10/14. And if you haven’t been prompted to download it yet, don’t worry, as it’ll be a rolling release, so some will get it today and the days leading to October 14.

Will we see Infinity Ward announce details about this patch? That could very well be the case given we’re two days away from it being playable. Chances are, we’ll get datamined info available out soon too, and once we know more about that, we’ll let our readers know.

In other related Call of Duty news, the Black Ops Cold War beta is currently available to all PS4 gamers! Next week, the Xbox One and PC crowd will get a chance to play it as well.

Digital Extremes Developing Improved Graphic Engine for Warframe Next-Gen Transition

Good news for Warframe fans as Digital Extremes have confirmed that development on an improved graphic engine has begun to help the team’s Warframe next-gen transition. In short: expect a prettier game!

Full details on Warframe next-gen enhanced graphic engine.

Enhanced (formerly referred to as ‘Deferred’) is a complete redesign to achieve more accurate reflections and give us the ability to utilize dynamic lighting and shadowing across the entire game.

(Squinting) Aside from our landscapes, the frame to frame differences will be subtle. Precomputed reflections in the very shiny Gas City floors will be less distorted. The reflective glints on your Warframe won’t ‘pop’ each time you move between tiles. This is intentional as we’ve been diligent with ‘back porting’ our rendering upgrades to Enhanced to the Legacy rendering system. Our continuous upgrades to static path-traced lighting, parallax projected cubemaps, volumetric lights, lit fog, character light probes… work quite well in the legacy rendering engine and have allowed us to ‘keep up with the Jones’ over many years. But there has always been a glaring weak-point on the Legacy Rendering Eximus…

To stretch a Bene Gesserit/Dune analogy – “There is a place – terrifying to us”: Dynamic lighting! Since Warframe’s launch, the number of dynamic lights we’ve typically used per-frame has been kept in the low single digits. Your gun, maybe a flashlight, maybe an ability cast… everything else was precomputed, stored in textures (light maps) and point clouds (light probes) or faked with ‘glow sprites’. The reason for this: for every dynamic light we’d add to the frame (*), the legacy rendering engine would have to render everything it touched again. In a small hallway with a few Grineer muzzle flashes, this would create wild fluctuations in the rendering complexity… in the outdoor Landscapes it was a faceplant – one muzzle flash light = draw the whole valley again!!! Not only smashing your GPU but also choking the CPU with additional work…

Enhance! This is where the new rendering engine excels. It renders out the attributes of the scene (colors, glossiness, shape) to offscreen buffers. After this, proper dynamic lighting costs hardly more than those terrible glow sprites we’ve used in the past. For realtime shadows, what the light sources ‘see’ are cached and reused when nothing changes. All lighting and reflection probes are stored in a 3D camera voxel texture and applied in single passes where the costs grow linearly, proportional to their size on screen, without incurring huge CPU and GPU penalties to ‘draw the whole world, again and again’.

Show me the money! As you experiment with the new rendering engine keep in mind that until we phase out the legacy system and ensure our new one scales well across High-end PC, consoles, toasters and thermostats, we will not be just turning on dynamic lighting everywhere. We have years of content built with the fear of using dynamic lighting… but there is one place you can go to see the dramatic lift it brings: Landscapes! There in the Vallis, the Plains and the Drift those fuzzy, ambiguous shadow blobs are replaced with dramatically realtime sun shadows! Subtle in many tiles, but not so here!

As a tease, the team also released some comparison images that show the game off before and after the engine upgrade. You’ll noice better lighting, shadows, reflections, and overall improved details.

The blog also teased that this upgraded graphic engine will allow them to future possibilities, including some ray-tracing and machine-learning augmentation. No further details were given, though they did say to stay-tuned so hopefully we expect to hear more on that in the next months.

Judging form the screenshots above, this is certainly going to be one exciting upgrade when it releases. Hopefully this means a PS5 and Xbox Series X version will be released around the same time these features become available.

In related Warframe news, if you haven’t yet, be sure to jump in the latest Warframe Heart of Deimos update that launched a couple of months ago. It’s not very long in terms of campaign like lal expansions, but it is definitely worth the playthrough.

Mileena Absence From Mortal Kombat 11 Explained, Boon Confirms He’s Seen Cut of the New Live-Action Film

Mortal Kombat’s co-creator Ed Boon talks about why they took so long to bring back fan favorite Mileena in Mortal Kombat 11, and also discusses a bit about the upcoming new live-action film.
Speaking during the livestream of the final day of New York Comic Con, Ed Boon explained why Mileena has been absent from the recent Mortal Kombat game and how they were surprised by the intensity of fan demands for the character.
“You know Mileena was one of the first characters from Mortal Kombat 1 and 2. There was Sub-Zero and Scorpion and on the other side was Katana and Mileena and they were you know, the kind of classic adversaries over the years of Mortal Kombat and so we’ve represented, continued their story and we hit pause on Mileena just to create an appreciation.” Ed Continues, ” But we had no idea it would be this intense and so for years we were getting pounded, you know “I want to see Mileena again” we just stretched that out and we knew she was on her way. So I started you know teasing a little bit more and I wouldn’t be doing that if I knew that she was eventually show up, so it was just a big build up and you know we played with it a little bit and eventually we knew that we were going to be releasing a video like we did and just let the floodgates lose and that’s what we witnessed was was just this pent-up um anticipation for Mileena and all of a sudden online we saw the results of it.”
Along with this new tidbit, Ed was also asked to pick to either talk about Injustice 3, or the upcoming Mortal Kombat live-action film. Of course with the former yet to be officially announced, he choose to go with the live-action talk, and confirmed that he has seen a cut of the film. No further details were given outside of that as he has stated that he isn’t allowed to talk about it.
In other Mortal Kombat 11 news, the Kombat Pack 2 (which includes Mileena), has been announced last week. In addition to that, the next-gen upgrade and features has been announced as well.

Black Ops Cold War Beta Scorestreaks Update From Alpha Explained

If you played the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alpha, you’ve no doubt experienced the new scorestreak system introduced by Treyarch. Now, if you played both the alpha and the beta, then you’ve mostly noticed the Black Ops Cold War beta scorestreaks update.

If you’re confused as to how the new scorestreak multiplier works, you’re not alone. Treyarch has shaken up the score obtained per kill, the score per kill tiers and more. Thankfully, YouTuber Xclusive Ace is here to save the day! Ace has published a video giving a breakdown of the Black Ops Cold War beta scorestreak system update. You can check it out in an easy-to-digest format below.

First up, check out the score per kill multiplyer changes from the alpha to the beta:

Next, check out the score requirement changes Treyarch has made from the alpha to the beta. Across the board, Treyarch has increased the score requirement for each streak save for one, which is the Napalm. The sccore increase for each is quite significant as well.

Finally, we have an overview of how many uninterrupted kills (killstreak) a player needs in order to call each specific streak and how it got changed from the alpha to the beta. It’s a big jump for the latter streaks available in the beta.

It goes without saying that there are more scorestreaks that will be available in the final game. And also, judging from the tweaks Treyarch has made, don’t be surprised to see the multipliers and values changed throughout the game’s lifecycle since Treyarch will be looking for a good balance for it.

In other Black Ops Cold War news, we posted an article showing the wonky netcode and hit registration the beta has so far.

Xbox One and PC players, the beta will be available on your platform next week.
